i know this is probably the hardest question any of you will ever be
posed, but do any of you have a favorite ig album?  i.e. if you were
stranded on a deserted island with only a cd player and one indigo girls
cd, which would you choose?

also, is there an ig record which you don't particularly care for?  (at
least in relation to their others) :)

my first album i think was when i was probably like 8.  me and the neighbor girl
both had a copy of shaun cassidy's record(i'm so embarrassed).  i thought for
sure i was going to marry him if i could only me him.  i used to play the record
in the dark and dream  of him, too funny.   here's a good thread - the most
embarassing thing you  did as a kid.

oh yea, the dr. who comment.  i think gail said that her first album was dr. who
music, well, my husband and i used to watch that all the time.  we always liked
the name adric so we said if we ever had a son it's name would be adric.  adric
stephen was born 4-19-92 and is the apple of our eye.  i still love the name.

i hear i used to get naked 'cept my cowboy boots, go next door, pick some
flowers, then ring the neighbors doorbell, and make her bend down so i could
see down her shirt... it might have worked for a 3 year old, but as a 30 year
old, my new neighbor didn't like the boots...

hello,
to answer the "deserted on an island with one ig cd":

definitely 1200 curfews in that situation.
anything close to hearing the ig performing live is 10 times better than
anything that
can be messed with in a recording studio.
on the same note, my least favorite cd would have to be strange fire. and
not because of the music content, but because there is just way too much
reverb and it really bothers me.  and yes, i realize that the money wasn't
there quite yet, but geez.
also, the one version of many many recordings of loc is kind of yucky on
that album.  i kind of chuckle when i hear "honey you know that i'm
not!!!!!!!!"  if honey did not know before, she sure did after hearing that
little quirp.

thanks for listening.

hi noi, hi guys (used in the all-gender-inclusive sense i was taught by
my older cousin barbara many long years ago, as a hopefully refreshing
change from my usual hi all, so no offense intended of course)!!!

>i know this is probably the hardest question any of you will ever be
>posed, but do any of you have a favorite ig album?  i.e. if you were
>stranded on a deserted island with only a cd player and one indigo girls
>cd, which would you choose?

whoa, that is a poser.  i don't know if i could actually name a
favorite, since it really seems to depend on my mood and environment,
but guessing what my mood would be given that environment, it would have
to be the self-titled indigo girls album.

kid fears would obviously be appropriate.  i would play secure yourself
for my companions who didn't make it through the catastrophic shipwreck.

love will come to you would keep me going while i was '...calling you,
calling you from ten thousand miles away'.  prince of darkness would
remind me of what i could be glad to be missing.

history of us would paint me vivid pictures of paris and switzerland for
a little mental change of venue, and remind me to enjoy the life i was
spared with the one who made it and spared it.

i could dance in the sand to joking and land of canaan.

...and of course, i could blast closer to fine as loud as i wanted
without bothering greg f |]!  (...and the less i seek the sky for
saviours in a plane, the closer i am to fine!!!)

>also, is there an ig record which you don't particularly care for?  (at
>least in relation to their others) :)

nope, just maybe ones for which the perfect-time-moments are less frequent.

thanks for the fun!

hmmm... a tough question indeed... i would have to say that my favorite
ig album is whichever one i am currently playing.

that's not a flip answer - whenever i re-listed to one of the albums, i
fall in love with it again.

however, i probably listen to their older stuff less than the newer
things. the early songs are raw and full of passion, but the newer stuff
is easier on the ears (imo).

hi all. i have only been on this list for a few days and i have enjoyed it

someon posed the question, "are there any ig records you don't like?"....i guessmy only response to that would be that i am not a huge fan oif "back on the
bus, ya'll", especially after the truly superior nature of 1200 curfews.
i guss i should be nice since it was an early effort and low budget and all,
but i don't listen to it, i just keep it so i can have a complete collection

_____________________________________________________________________

this is the message that followed, dated december 14.  please note that
while it is now the 21st, lori berenson is still being detained in peru.

----------------------------original message----------------------------
bad news: reuters news service and the daily news today left the
impression
that, according
to lori berenson's lawyer in peru, she admitted to some degree of
collaboration
with the tupac amaru group. please be aware that this is false. she has
not
signed nor confessed to anything, although she is being pressured to do
so. the
date she will be brought up on charges is thurs dec. 14th (not fri the
15th
as earlier reported). it is crucial that you let your senators and reps.
know
that the newspapers have misinterpreted what is happening there. please
respond
quickly.

background: lori helene berenson, 26 year old new yorker, daughter
of prof. mark berenson (statistics/baruch college) and prof. rhoda
berenson (physics/nassau community college) has been held in a
peruvian prison since thursday, november 30, 1995 on potential
charges of terrorism. lori has traveled to many countries in
central and south america because she has a passionate interest in
their language, music, history and people. in addition, lori is
deeply concerned about human rights in these countries, and
intended to write about her experience. most recently she worked as
a freelance journalist.

update: lori berenson is being denied anything like due process.
peruvian officials have publicized preposterous allegations about
lori because they are trying to weaken american support for her.
according to her father, who just returned from visiting her, they
are trying to coerce lori into incriminating other individuals they
would like to pin charges on. the facts, however, are these:

1. lori consistenty and emphatically maintains that she is
absolutely innocent. lori deplores violence and drugs, and would
not knowingly be involved with harming another human being.

2. the government of peru has no evidence against lori whatsoever.

3. lori has not, and will not, give out information about other
individuals.

4. peru's record of human rights is abominable. thousands of
innocent people have been charged with crimes without evidence,
condemned to long sentences in peruvian prisons without a fair
trial. we must not let this happen to lori.

immediately call, fax and email your congressional representatives
and senators to work to release her immediately and allow her to
leave the country. demand us political action to protect her human
rights. inform them that lori berenson is slated to face formal
endictment by a faceless tribunal of 3 hood judges appointed by the
peruvian government on or around december 14, even though there is
no evidence. this is unacceptable treatment of an american citizen.
it must be stopped.

aarrgghh!! the question i hoped nobody would ask has finally been put
forth.  i *refuse* to choose which one ig cd i would take with me on a
desert island.  no way.  uh-uh. forget it.  wrong guess, hans.  security
council veto. i would not, could not, in a boat, i would not, could not,
with a goat, i do not like green eggs and ham.

that being said...the first cd fell just a *little* flat for me.  not
enough memorable tunes for my taste, but i'm expecting disagreement from

easy one for me...
if stranded on a desert island with just an endless supply of batteries
an cd player, hmmm... given the choice of one igs release, i would
logically choose 1200. but, isn't that sorta cheating? i mean, it's more
a compilation rather that a start-to-finish artistic mix like rites of
passage.

i'd hafta bite the big one, miss hammer&nail a lot, and choose rites of
passage. :d

i must say, despite it being an early attempt....i love botby'all!  the
version of you and me of the 10,000 wars is my fav!!!!!  it kills me when amy
sings...
"...is there every anything else that makes us take our different
sides....!?)
she belts that out with such emotion...it towers the album version....plus i
love the crowd participation on the album....not to mention the all along the
watchtower cover.  all are gems in my book:)
take care all!  and happy holidays!

thought you all might like this...

what they're listening to..emily saliers (indigo girl guitarist-vocalist)

1. "vulture" 3 lb. thrill (former members of uncle green)
2. "not a pretty girl" ani di franco
3. "what's inside" joan armatrading

very cool. emily used to be my favorite, but amy is growing on me. and
damn can she play a guitar.

hmm...th other day i was poking around in the bookstore when i saw this
collection of interviews from the rolling stone magazine. they rated all
the albums  before "back on the bus y'll"...and i can't believe that only
their first debut album and "botby'll" get three and and half stars; the
others get only three stars. in fact the person who wrote the review even
says that "back on the bus y'all" is ig's best...

well, i haven't got "botby'all" myself yet, but now i'm eager to get it
after rob's message...

however, i used to think rolling stone is a pretty authoritive music
mag; but now i kinda lost my respect...three stars???

hi everyone,
i just got on this list, it's cool. i have a question for all you
indigo-heads. while at the ig concert last year in austin some guy traded my
ig t-shirt (from santa fe 1992) for his green album (rop) on the record it
has a few things scratched in it for example "in memory of john blizzard" or
something like that. he told me they only made 2000 of them and it is signed
(i believe they all were) was it true, is there only 2000, or was i had? but
i can't be had to bad it was an old t-shirt. (if the t-shirt was worth a
million dollars or something, feel free not to tell me) i doubt it though.
somebody e-mail me and tell me please.
reggie jayne
p.s. any philmont people out there?

it would have to be 1200 curfews.  that way, i could get the maximum ig fix.<g>
if it couldn't be 1200 curfews, i'd pick nomads-indians-saints, then rights
of passage.

(though if i did have 1200 curfews on the island, i'd probably wear out
bmhawk, chikenman, and virginia wolfe.)

uhmm, this is a much harder question.  i don't listen to the first album
that often, but that's because my version of the cd has a scratch. :(  i'm
hoping for a new one for christmas(it's all i asked santa for.<g>)

**** 'twas the night before christmas  ****

spock's version of the night before christmas.

'twas the nocturnal segment of the diurnal period preceding the annual
yuletide celebration, and throughout the place of residence, kinetic
activity was not in evidence among the possessors of this potential,
including that species of domestic rodent known as mus musculus (mouse).

hosiery was meticulously suspended from the forward edge of the wood
burning caloric apparatus, pursuant to our anticipatory pleasure regarding
an imminent visitation from an eccentric philanthropist among whose
folkloric appellations is the honorific title of st. nicholas.

the prepubescent siblings, comfortably ensconced in their respective
accommodations of repose, were experiencing subconscious visual
hallucinations of variegated fruit confections moving rhythmically through
their cerebrums.  my conjugal partner and i, attired in our nocturnal head
coverings, were about to take slumberous advantage of the hibernal darkness
when upon the avenaceous exterior portion of the grounds there ascended
such a cacophony of dissonance that i felt compelled to arise with alacrity
from my place of repose for the purpose of ascertaining the precise source
thereof.

hastening to the casement, i forthwith opened the barriers sealing this
fenestration, noting thereupon that the lunar brilliance without, reflected
as it was on the surface of a recent crystalline precipitation, might be
said to rival that of the solar meridian itself - thus permitting my
incredulous optical sensory organs to behold a miniature airborne runnered
conveyance drawn by eight diminutive specimens of the genus rangifer,
piloted by a minuscule, aged chauffeur so ebullient and nimble that it
became instantly apparent to me that he was indeed our anticipated caller.
with his ungulate motive power traveling at what may possibly have been more
vertiginous velocity than patriotic alar predators, he vociferated loudly,
expelled breath musically through contracted labia, and addressed each of
the octet by his or her respective cognomen - "now dasher, now dancer..." et
al. - guiding them to the uppermost exterior level of our abode, through which
structure i could readily distinguish the concatenations of each of the 32
cloven pedal extremities.

as i retracted my cranium from its erstwhile location, and was
performing a 180-degree pivot, our distinguished visitant achieved - with
utmost celerity and via a downward leap - entry by way of the smoke passage.

he was clad entirely in animal pelts soiled by the ebony residue from
oxidations of carboniferous fuels which had accumulated on the walls
thereof. his resemblance to a street vendor i attributed largely to the
plethora of assorted playthings which he bore dorsally in a commodious
cloth receptacle.

his orbs were scintillant with reflected luminosity, while his
submaxillary dermal indentations gave every evidence of engaging
amiability.

the capillaries of his malar regions and nasal appurtenance were engorged
with blood which suffused the subcutaneous layers, the former approximating
the coloration of albion's floral emblem, the latter that of the prunus
avium, or sweet cherry.  his amusing sub- and supralabials resembled nothing
so much as a common loop knot, and their ambient hirsute facial adornment
appeared like small, tabular and columnar crystals of frozen water.

clenched firmly between his incisors was a smoking piece whose grey fumes,
forming a tenuous ellipse about his occiput, were suggestive of a decorative
seasonal circlet of holly. his visage was wider than it was high, and when
he waxed audibly mirthful, his corpulent abdominal region undulated in the
manner of impectinated fruit syrup in a hemispherical container. he was, in
short, neither more nor less than an obese, jocund, multigenarian gnome, the
optical perception of whom rendered me visibly frolicsome despite every
effort to refrain from so being. by rapidly lowering and then elevating one
eyelid and rotating his head slightly to one side, he indicated that
trepidation on my part was groundless.

without utterance and with dispatch, he commenced filling the
aforementioned appended hosiery with various of the aforementioned articles
of merchandise extracted from his aforementioned previously dorsally
transported cloth receptacle.  upon completion of this task, he executed an
abrupt about-face, placed a single manual digit in lateral
juxtaposition to his olfactory organ, inclined his cranium forward in a
gesture of leave-taking, and forthwith effected his egress by renegotiating
(in reverse) the smoke passage. he then propelled himself in a short vector
onto his conveyance, directed a musical expulsion of air through his
contracted oral sphincter to the antlered quadrupeds of burden, and
proceeded to soar aloft in a movement hitherto observable chiefly among the
seed-bearing portions of a common weed. but i overheard his parting
exclamation, audible immediately prior to his vehiculation beyond the limits
of visibility: "ecstatic yuletide to the planetary constituency, and to that
self same assemblage, my sincerest wishes for a salubriously beneficial and
gratifyingly pleasurable period between sunset and dawn."

cute, but any scientific study into this "santa" character would prove
that such a person cannot exist.  observe...

from: "douglas wayne sjoquist" <sjoquistd@cedarnet.cedarville.edu>
subject: joke: scientific study of santa

i got this from our registrar (presumably from the registrar's
mailing list:
*****************************************************************
is there a santa claus?

as a result of an overwhelming lack of requests, and with
research help from that reknown scientific journal spy magazine
(january, 1990) - i am please to present the annual scientific
inquiry into santa claus.

1)  no known species of reindeer can fly.  but there are 300,000
species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while
most of these are insects and germs, this does not
completely rule out flying reindeer which only santa has
    ever seen.

2)  there are 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the
world. but since santa doesn't (appear) to handle the
muslim, hindu, jewish, and buddhist children, that reduces
the workload to 15% of the total - 378 million according to
the population reference bureau.  at an average (census)
rate of 3.5 children per household, that's 91.8 million
homes.  one presumes there's at least one good child in
    each.

3)  santa has 31 hours of christmas to work with, thanks to the
different time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming
he travels east to west (which seems logical).  this works
out to 822.6 visits per second.  this is to say that for
each christian household with good children, santa has
1/1000th of a second to park, hop out of the sleigh, jump
down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the
remaining presents under the tree, eat whatever snacks have
been left, get back up the chimney, get back into the sleigh
and move on to the next house.  assuming that each of these
91.8 million stops are evenly distributed around the earth
(which, of course, we know to be false but for the purposes
of our calculations we will accept), we are now talking
about .78 miles per household, a total trip of 75.5 million
miles, not counting stops to do what most of us must do at
least once every 31 hours, plus feeding and etc.

this means that santa's sleigh is moving at 650 miles per
second, 3,000 times the speed of sound.  for purposes of
comparison, the fastest man-made vehichle on earth, the
ulysses space probe, moves at a poky 27.4 miles per second -
a conventional reindeer can run, tops, 15 miles per hour.

4)  the payload on the sleigh adds another interesting element.
assuming that each child gets nothing more that a medium-
sized lego set (2 pounds), the sleigh is carrying 321,300
tons, not counting santa, who is invariablly described as
overweight.  on land, conventional reindeer can pull no more
than 300 pounds.  even granting that "flying reindeer" (see
point #1) could pull ten times the normal amount, we cannot
do the job with eight, or even nine.  we need 214,200
reindeer.  this increases the payload - not even counting
the weight of the sleigh - to 353,430 tons.  again, for
comparison - this is four times the weight of the queen
    elizabeth.

5)  353,000 tons travelling at 650 miles per second creates
enourmous air resistance - this will heat the reindeer up in
the same fashion as spacecrafts re-entering the earth's
atmosphere.  the lead pair of reindeer will absorb 14.3
quintillion joules of energy.  per second.  each.  in short,
they will burst into flame almost instantaneously, exposing
the reindeer behind them, and create deafening sonic booms
in their wake.  the entire reindeer team will be vaporized
within 4.26 thousandths of a second.  santa, meanwhile, will
be subjected to centrifigal forces 17,500.06 times greater
than gravity.  a 250-pound santa (which seems ludicrously
slim) would be pinned to the back of his sleigh by 4,315,015
    pounds of force.

in conclusion - if santa ever did deliver presents on christmas
eve, he's dead now.

i would have to say, without hesitation, swamp ophelia. maybe because
it was my first album, i had it for months before i bought the rest...
but i still listen to it more than any other, i guess i just like it
slightly more than the rest. :) as far as a least favorite, i really
couldn't say.

subject:      some igc,
but nothing important: cran's crazy christmas traditions.

i got home from school yesterday rather late after running all over town
doing errands (last-minute shopping, mailing christmas cards, etc.), and
i was about to get online and read the daily plethora of messages in my
mailbox when i got a call from my brother. nothing unusual so far,
nothing igc so far for that matter, but i'll get to it. :) he was in a
desperate situation at the christmas party he was attending at his
school, and made an urgent request: "jen bring some music, everyone else
brought country!!" so, you can guess what music i brought. :) i took some
christmas cds too, just in case someone wanted to listen to christmas
music at a christmas party. i was welcomed into the chaos by multiple
queries of "are you carl's sister?" but generally they left me alone.
during the next hour i stood safely out of the way while watching about
15 7th and 8th graders run, scream, jump, eat, laugh, exchange gifts,
break gifts, attempt to fix gifts, and generally create chaos. i drank
plenty of dr. pepper and actually got 1 piece of cake. :) and during the
course of the evening, i got to put on swamp ophelia and hear it for
about six minutes before it was roughly exchanged for some beach boys.
oh well - at least i did contribute to the party. :) but at such a cost!
i collected my stack of cds that i had brought in, but found both corners
to the jewel case snapped off. i recovered one of them, and dad later glued
it, but it will never be the same again... :( but the worst came when i
counted the cds: i brought in six. i knew i brought in six. but there
were just five there: nomads indians saints was missing!! i frantically
searched the table and floor around the stereo, but no avail. i was about
to give it up as stolen, but when i got back in the car, there it was,
had been sitting on the seat the whole time. major sigh of relief, but
major cursing of my own stupidity. :) my brother and i drove home in the
snow. later that evening, everyone in my family got together for the
annual christmas ritual of decorating christmas cookies. :) aside from
the usual santas, snowmen, wreaths, christmas trees, rocking horses, and
other christmas paraphenalia, there were little 2" gingerbread figures,
and with two of these i made little amy and emily cookies. :) though at
one point, one of my cats jumped on the table and broke the one that was
going to be amy! the second one turned out better though. i had to
experiment a bit to make black frosting - just mix together all the paste
coloring that you have with the frosting, so there's more color than
frosting! when all was said and done, i had two cute little indigo
cookies. :) detailed right down to their guitars and amy's tattoo (which
ended up looking like a dinosaur footprint, oh well!) they took me about
2 hours to make, but it was fun. :) during this time everyone else had
made their share of cookies and either gone to bed or stopped to watch
tv. i don't know what i'll end up doing with these cookies, but certainly
won't eat them. :) anyway, merry christmas y'all. :)

the first concert i ever saw was george benson and seawind in denver
at mcnichols sports arena in 1979.  it was a good first concert.  the
best concert i ever saw was august 16, 1981 at red rocks, it was a
legendary show by bruce springsteen and the e-street band.  rain
delayed the start of the show for 45 minutes, when the rain turned to
drizzle, they came out and sang "who'll stop the rain."  the rain and
the song ended at the same time, the show got better from there!!!
i've seen them twice since then.

out of the three i've seen, my favorite ig concert in late june, 1991
at the greek theatre in los angeles.  i thought somebody had a boot
from that show, but they never delivered.  if anyone out there has
one from this show, i would love to have it.  let me know!

other concerts i have seen:

styxx
go-go's (twice)
scandal
dave alvin (at least six times)
the pretenders
eric clapton
john cougar mellencamp
john doe
queen/billy squier
david bowie

the only acts i haven't seen yet that i regret not seeing are tina
turner, kd lang, tracy chapman, and natalie merchant.  i'll see 'em
someday!!

rob - i agree wholeheartedly with you about 10k wars, and amy's line in
particular! that stands as one of my all-time favorites.

i will never forget the first time i heard it - i was married, in our
house, listening to the brand new botby'all cd through headphones because
my (then) wife was watching a videotape. when i heard that particular
section of 10k wars, i called her and asked her to come listen to it. she
did, and we had a nice discussion about the igs & music, etc... very nice.

happy holidays, everyone.

good question noi....

my working theory is that whenever someone asks you which one is
your favorite ig cd, i'd say "whatever they're going to release next..."
the stuff they put out progressively just gets *better*.  so last year,
it was swamp ophelia, but now it's 1200c...and i'm sure in '97, it'll be
whatever they release then.  that's what's so great about 'em, ig gets
better and better....

as for one i don't particularly care for...maybe strange fire,
just because i know what they can do (esp. on rop and so) and strange
fire just sounds like they're young.  don't get me wrong, i love the
title track, "walk away", and "crazy game"...but amy's writing brilliant
stuff like "reunion" and "jonas and ezekial" and emily's kicking ass with
pieces like "mystery" and "ghost" and "least complicated".  they've grown
so much as songwriters that it's kinda scary....

feeling like a strawberry,
teri

hi gang!

held off on an answer to the favorite album question as i really like them all
and teri echoes exactly how i feel

she wrote:

"my working theory is that whenever someone asks you which one is
your favorite ig cd, i'd say 'whatever they're going to release next...'
the stuff they put out progressively just gets *better*.  so last year,
it was swamp ophelia, but now it's 1200c...and i'm sure in '97, it'll be
whatever they release then.  that's what's so great about 'em, ig gets
better and better....they've grown so much as songwriters that it's kinda
scary...."

i haven't listened to 1200c enough so i can't comment, but i absolutely love
so.  i too can't wait until 1997.  i can't imagine how they will top so.

hopin' everyone has a great holiday,

hi. i'm de-lurking momentarily to let everyone know about the new ig
import disc we just got at the record store where i work. it's called "in
with the out crowd," and the recording quality is excellent. here's the track
listing:

1. fugitive
2. galileo
3. hammer and a nail
4. this train
5. least complicated
6. ghost
7. chickenman
8. kid fears
9. closer to fine
(the above are credited to shepherd's bush empire, london, november, 1994)
10. bury my heart at wounded knee
11. power of two
12. closer to fine
13. three hits
(the above are credited to the glastonbury festival, june 24, 1995)
14. cortez the killer (studio version!)

with the excetion of chickenman, the shepherd's bush empire tracks sound
identical to what was broadcast in the disney special.

this was a must-have for me because of the nine and a half minute chickenman
- with monologue! i'd seen transcripts but never heard one. very cool.
anyway, i thought ya'll might be interested...

this is a desperate plea for help. i have been searchin' high and low for
some music by m malone. but, to no avail. i did succeed in finding band de
soleil / redemption dream. but, what i am loking for is relentless. none of
the music stores in my area carry it and they all said they could order it.
but the catch is, it is supposedly now out of print. is there anyone out
there that would be willing to help me expand my musical horizons. i am dying
to hear this tape. is there anyone out there that has it that would possibly
tape it for me? and also, are those her only two tapes? for some reason i
seem to think there is a third. i do not have anything to trade, but i am
willing to supply the tapes, a sase and maybe some extra blanks tapes for
payment. or, as a last resort, a small amout of cash. also, i am looking for
someone to do the same for ellen james society and viva la diva. these are
also some groups i would like to have. if there is anyone out there please,
please, e-mail me. like i said, i am desperate. thanx to all of you that read
through all of my grovelin' i appreciate it and hope to hear some responses
soon!!

that's funny.  10k wars and cedar tree are my two favorite ig songs.  seems
we all have a lot in common.  btw, yes, i have gotten in that mood before.
i used to hate chickenman and nashville, and lately, they're all i want to
listen to.  i think the songs are so deep that sometimes they go over our
head.  but when life does us bad or throws something our way to help us
understand the song better, it is sitting there and waiting for us.  and
then we awe at how we didn't like the song before.

just my experiences,

scott
...they danced down the street like dingledodies, and i shambled after as
i've been doing all my life after people who interest me, because the only
people for me are the mad ones, the one who are mad to live, mad to talk,
mad to be saved, the ones who never yawn or say a common place thing, but
burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders
across the stars and in the middle you see the blue centerlight pop and
everybody goes "awww!"

i've been listening to mystery lately... one thing about ig's songs, they
attach themselves to you when they are most appropriate. :)  i'm having a
"mystery" relationship right now and i can finally relate to the darn song!

......

i finally watched the watershed video. (4x in one day). my gf put the
video in my stocking. :)  i really enjoyed the footage in the artists
studio! wowzers is that cool or what?

hope you folks had great holidays!

very sad about the zoo ... i've visited twice in the past two years, and

i know what you all mean about being stuck on one or a few indigo girls
songs...  recently, i've been driving everyone crazy by playing "tangled
up in blue," "land of canaan," and "romeo & juliet" over and over again,
obsessively.  it's very strange.  i'm beginning to think that i may have
to take a break from listening to ig (at least for a day ro two) so i
don't wear it out.  not that it could ever get worn out, but certain
songs lose their fun after hearing them over and over.  :)

the wood song. and fugitive... maybe i can't live without swamp ophelia
after all. lemme listen to both about 1200 more times and then i'll
decide. :) speaking of 1200c... i was listening to it for the first time
on christmas day and mom was saying she wanted to listen to christmas
music. i said, "well, i wanna listen to this." she said "put on christmas
music soon" or something like that. but then just at that moment, "river"

i laughed so hard. :)

well, as a newcomer i'd like to add to that setting the c.d. on repeat
deal because not only do i live it, my roommate who also loves ig bless
her soul plays that great song romeo and juliet a lot.  but *i*
loved that song so much and i got so into the version by
the ig that i had to hear the original by mark
knopfler.  only i like the ig much better.  is that bad?  but do not
fret, i hold the greatest respect for dire straits having originated the
song and having allowed ig to sing it. ;-)

does this sound familiar?
let me know.

first of all, about the "in with the out crowd" cd...perry does
notyet have it.  some of his distributors are closed for the holidays
but now that he knows this is out he will certainly be looking for
it.  i called the two places in boston who carry bootlegs and neither
has it right now.

but...good news for you billy pilgrim fans...the original, pre billy
pilgrim releases, when they were just andrew hyra and kristian bush,
are once again available.  both st. christopher's crossing
and words like numbers are out and perry has them in copious quantities.

when you call....ask him about the "blood and fire" cd.....

that number again is 1-800-636-6166.

subject:      road trips and other thangs

well, it's been a few days since i posted, so it's high time i did. happy
holidays to all my fellow fans out there. :) i figure y'all are out there
celebrating the season with appropriate background music. i just read suzy's
post about liking amy's r&j better. even tho, as a newbie, she probably has no
idea what i'm talking about, she's welcome in my car. :) :)

my mom is here in pa visiting from oregon for the holidays, and i wanted to
tell y'all something so you can be just as proud of her as i am right now.
i've played ig for her on a number of occasions, and she always liked it, but
never really got into it, ya know what i mean? well, the other day i came home
from work to find my mom sitting in my dining room listening to 1200c. in
fact, she listened to the whole thing. wow! i told her she was a good girl. i
never thought she'd go out of her way to listen to the girls on her own. but
that's not all. later she put in cgs, and still later, it was nth. what a
holiday feast of ig for me! _then_ (this gets even better) she and i got into
this discussion about marriage and divorce and stuff, and i thought of amy's
quote on the galileo video, "i married badly but divorced well." so i popped
in watershed, and mom and i laughed all the way through galileo. when it was
over she said, "hey, that was _really_ good. you might turn me into an indigo
girls fan yet." and then she starts asking me all sorts of questions about how
they write their songs, and how long they've been playing etc. you have to
understand, this made me _very_ happy because my mom has never been one to
really listen to music. and she's certainly never gone into my room in search
of ig cd's!

ok, one more thing, then i'm done. it's official, i'm going to perry's rdr
bash. phil norman and i will be headin' down there this weekend. so i'm sure
i'll be meeting a lot of you down there at the party, but if anyone wants to
drop me a line and let me know when you'll be there, or whatever, please do
so. i'm really hoping to be able to put some more faces to these names i've
gotten to know over the past year or so. :)

happy folkisnewyear everyone.

ig's, and it blew me away to hear amy rip into the tune the way she
does.  lots of passion, i agree...i guess i'm just a little fuddy-duddy

hi,

thanks for your inquiry.  rainy day records has a new year's
eve party every year on december 31 starting about noon.
we go until the last person is out the door -- last year
it lasted until about 1 am.  we invite the best musicians
in the southeast to drop in and eat, drink and perform if
they want.  not everyone plays but most everyone eats and
drinks!  we post messages on indigo girls, melissa etheridge, rem and the
atlanta artists lists and we generally notify the local media.  this year
we have
confirmed a list of about 75 singer/songwriters who will at
least drop in for a quick beer if they don't perform.  the
list is endless and it will be quicker for me to tell you
who won't be here -- michelle malone and angela motter.
both will be out of town.  everyone else will be here.

please join us about noon if you can make it.  you'll
be taking interstate 75 or 85 up from florida.  go thru
atlanta (where 75 & 85 are joined) and stay on 85 when
they split.  get off at the north druid hills road exit
and take a right.  rainy day records is two miles on the
right in toco hills shopping center at the intersection of
north druid hills road and lavista road.  our toll free
number is 1-800-636-6166 if you get lost.  call us if you
need more info on the party.  hope to see you.

peace,
perry

i was wondering, is anyone from the new england area driving down for

and would like to take an extra passenger who can contribute to
driving, gas and tolls please let me know.  i don't have the money to
fly or get a hotel on my own, and really don't feel like driving to

email me or call me at 1-413-586-0657 and leave me a message.  i know
this is sort of short notice, but i have been having a bummer holiday
and would like an adventure to get me moving again.  plus, it would be
really cool to meet some ig fans and hang out for a few days.  thanks
