i was in roswell today (it's only an hour and a half away from where i
live in ruidoso)... listening to rites of passage and it really made me
think... "i fell on my knees to kiss your land, you are so far down i
can't even see to stand, roswell... i've seen you lowered state today..."
that song seems really appropriate because roswell is such a depressing
place. flat land, some old buildings, depressing... i prefer the
mountains and cool pines of ruidoso. :) just to let y'all know. :)

well, i've found myself listening to amy songs a lot lately - this
morning i listened to swamp ophelia through and then went back and
listened to all the amy songs. and then on 1200c i listened to
chickenman, joking, and jonas and ezekial a couple of times each...

maybe it's the dog - i have a dog who always howls when i play the piano,
and she howls during some songs like 3 hits and touch me fall. she
doesn't seem to like most classical music either. :) i have no idea why
she does it, it just seems to be a "dog thing"...

subject:      independent stuff

if you are interested in getting a tape of amy and emily's independent
releases, here is a chance.

the tape is 100 mins and has the original tracks from the independent 45,
ep, strange fire, don't eat out of dented cans, and benefit single 'peace by
tomorrow' (released in '87, amy and emily are part of a group backing vocal,
their voices are not disernable) and all are recorded directly from vinyl.
the tape is an all or nothing deal, please do not email me asking for
certain tracks, it would be a nightmare on this end.

what you need to do is send me a private email by wednesday, jan 3rd,
letting me know that you would like to get the tape (even if you already
have my mailing address).  then, send a new, blank tdk sa-100 (please send
that specific tape type) with a return envelope and return postage (please
do not send cash or checks) to me by thursday, jan 4th.  i will send you a
copy of the tape.

if i get swamped with requests i reserve the right to cut off the offer, the
only catch is that if later on you hear of someone who is looking for the
tape that you try to help them out.

have a safe and happy new year

the horn in his teeth, usually smashing the mouthpiece into my teeth
in the process...still have the teeth marks in the bell to prove
it, surprised i have teeth though....definitely a dog thing --deb

hi ho iglisters.......
kidfears here, back from a very long abscence from this list and the
internet as a whole.
i am looking for some information about a tape which 'fell' into my hands a
few months back.......
it is a solo tape by emily titled : here for you, recorded supposedly in
1983 (with extra guitar work by jonathan harder), and contains:
maybe it's the vision
i know that i love you
no trespassing
i hope i'm here for you
when your heart needs a home
gray new orleans afternoon
no one ever told me
half moon cafe
untitled
white flag
play it again sam
better life

what i am looking for is information about this tape..... who wrote the
songs (emily, i presume), where it was recorded (some studio -- i know),
etc.......

if you know anything about this tape, please email me.....
please do not email me looking for a copy -- i am in no position (this month
at least) to do anything about it.  when i can do something, i will post it.

i still love em though... ig  just has the perfect mix. see y'all later!

great songs but emily really speaks to me in a big way.

i join you in the emily corner. her songs are soooo much more profound

amy's songs are very simple (as far as the musical composition) and not as
pleasing musically. as a guitar player myself, i find playing a lot of
emily's songs a challenge.........especially "crazy game". i think people are
intrigued with amy's personality more than her music. give me some feedback

i agree that amy doesn't hold back in her emitions, both in singing and
writing...not someone to take lightly.  still and all, my favorite tunes
tend to be emily's...maybe it's my folky roots.  emily gives a more
detailed picture and is more poetic, while amy uses stronger colors and
gets right to the point in her lyrics.
amy's songs make me back up against the wall in awe; emily's make
me sit and ponder on my life and experiences.

that said, i love them both and admire them collectively and
individually...was telling my ladyfriend a few weeks ago that em and amy
write all the songs i wish i had written myself, and write them a hell of
a lot better than i could have.

hear my singin' call,
mike

assuming you guys are coming into atlanta on i-85, take the druid hills road
exit and go left.  stay on druid hills for a couple of miles, and rdr will
be in toco hills plaza, which is, i think, on your left.  you'll probably
get better directions from perry or someone.

i always stay at the red roof inn on druid hills, which is just off the
interstate to the *right*.  it's clean and reasonable priced.

coming east from i-85, the shopping plaza where rdr is located (toco
hills promenade) is on the *right*, on the corner of north druid
hills and lavista road.  i've supplied a map, but i have a feeling it
won't line up right on everyone's computer.  apologies in advance for

quick question.
me and some friends will be down in atlanta to bring the new year in.  from
what i understand...the rdr party will be sort of a come and go party from
noon until....
my questions are:
what are some good clubs..dance, bars etc.  to visit?  where is the best
place to actually bring in the new year?
and since nobody has mentioned it...curiosity is killing me..
are the girls going to stop in?
take care all and thanks!

hi y'all.

i'm new to the list, and i love the girls to death.

does anyone know if they're playing any dates in the uk in the foreseeable
future (or any dates at all - i'm desperate to see them in the states)?

my favourite album? almost impossible - but i'd (probably) have to go for
indigo girls, because that was my first experience of a&e (can you you
belive i walked into tower records in new orleans 6 years ago and asked
what's hot at the moment - it's the truth! they were playing in no that
night and i didn't go - a fact i've regretted ever since (but i have seen
them a couple of times in the uk since then)).

are they great or what?

"all of my dreams
that fell through
and have tasted so sour
take second place
in my my mind
for this one sacred hour" (tony clarkin).

may this be the first of many.

happy new year,

hi. i'm de-lurking momentarily to let everyone know about the new ig
import disc we just got at the record store where i work. it's called "in
with the out crowd," and the recording quality is excellent. here's the
track
listing:

1. fugitive
2. galileo
3. hammer and a nail
4. this train
5. least complicated
6. ghost
7. chickenman
8. kid fears
9. closer to fine
(the above are credited to shepherd's bush empire, london, november, 1994)
10. bury my heart at wounded knee
11. power of two
12. closer to fine
13. three hits
(the above are credited to the glastonbury festival, june 24, 1995)
14. cortez the killer (studio version!)

with the excetion of chickenman, the shepherd's bush empire tracks sound
identical to what was broadcast in the disney special.

this was a must-have for me because of the nine and a half minute chickenman
- with monologue! i'd seen transcripts but never heard one. very cool.
anyway, i thought ya'll might be interested...

to see them work with ig again.  same for jackson browne and david

i know the sundays do a really heart-wrenching version of it (anyone
know what they're up to these days??)  were you just wondering who did
that version, or were you saying the cranberries also do a version? (i'd
love to hear them do it! that song means tons to me, and in my mind they
do a fantastic cover...)

hi all. hope your indigo holidays went well. i'd love to see the girls
collaborate with stevie nicks. stevie's been out of it for a while, but she's
a great writer. if you listen to her first album (buckingham nicks) released
in 1972, you will be amazed. many of the songs are "folk" like and inherent
of the indigo sound. additionally, i'd love to hear them collaborate with
joni mitchell. emily's writing reminds me of some of joni's earlier music.

this year will end sometime...i know it will!!!

but before it ends, i have a few questions that i've been wanting
to ask but which keeps slipping my mind everytime i get to the terminal.
that's probably because the last few times i've logged on, i've had a bit
to drink.  oops...

        1.  jane scarpantoni!!!!  just wondered if anyone knew of other
works she's guested on.  i absolutely love the cello, one of
those instruments i find so endearing but have no intention
to get off my laurels and learn.  i know she was at the 10000
maniacs unplugged (along with jerry marotta), but wondering if
i could get my hands on other stuff she's done...

        2.  i was watching philadelphia the other night and i was just
wondering where/when do they play the indigo girls cover
            in the movie?????

now i can't remember any of my other questions i had in mind.
i've been sick the last few days...you'll have to excuse me.

have fun at the new year's shindig.  be grateful.

talk to me face to face,

in-reply-to:  <199512300500.aaa03822@netspace.org>; from "automatic digest
              processor" at dec 30, 95 12:00 am

hi everyone!  i hope you had a nice xmas, and for those taking finals that
everything went well.  like teri, i have a few random thoughts that i
finally collected to post:

        1.  license plates: someone asked a long time ago about ig inspired
plates.  it depends on the length allowed by the state (8 letters are
probably too many, but...)
h2oshed         nmdndnst        anerig          crzygm
wrldfals        clsr2fn         chiknmn/chknman         ad infinitum...

p.s. i have a hilarious vanity plate story if anyone is interested.

        2.  names: i hate to ruminate over this one again, but did anyone
ever suggest "indiguys" and "indigirls"?

        3.  songs played over & over: like someone said, it depends on what
mood you're in/what's in the player/car, etc., but lately i've been stuck
on "strange fire", love will come to you", and the a cappella "jam" at the
end of "love of the common people" is neat, too.  which makes me think...
we started a "wish list" for a xmas cd; how about a compilation of a cappella
tunes: finlandia, american tune, and what else ?? help me out here!...

        4.  random song comments: i just noticed the music box bit at the
end of "this train".  anyone know the tune? (i didn't have time to totally
concentrate on figuring it out myself :/)
what is amy's line in "the wood song" right after "no way...i know
...this was built by a greater hand"?

        5.  watershed video: got it for xmas (actually i made my brother
buy it for me) & it's great!  i'd never seen any of the vidoes before; i
think i like "galileo" the best.

        6.  new email address for me (big whoop, huh?).  they're shutting
down the system i'm on in a few weeks, so this address is still good for a
while, but i'm "setting up shop" as inky@expert.cc.purdue.edu as soon as
the processing goes through in case anyone wants to drop me a line.
remember, the only way to get mail is to send mail!

have a good weekend, and happy new year!

these are very creative.  my license plate (on my dark-blue-not quite

caroline aiken & wendy bucklew at the red light cafe, 553 amsterdam,

caroline and wendy practiced together yesterday and have a few tricks up

i'll be posting caroline's updated tour schedule after the new year.  both
caroline and wendy have websites at hidden water, which can be accessed at

i am also impressed with emily's talent.
