hi there y'all,

the "good times" virus warning is a hoax, and the letter has been on the
list a few times already. it's dang near impossible to transmit a virus
through email, only theoretically possible if you're somehow converting an
executable file into text, sending it, unconverting it (and the virus
somehow survives) and the executing it... in other words, not gonna
happen. =)

this is another classic chain letter -- do not forward ***any*** message
that tells you to post it everywhere, ever ever ever ever ever ever!

hey, sorry about my little chain letter rant a moment ago. got a little
carried away... i'm breathing deeply now, in with the good, out with the
bad. =)

ok, i need some advice from all you atlanta peoples out there.  i am being
drawn inexorably georgia-ward, i think, and if i'm not completely gutless
i'll be moving to atlanta by the end of the year. =)  pick the nearest
kristen hall song, and it'll probably describe my frustration pretty well
at still being at stanford after graduating.  it's like the party's over,
and everyone else has gone home, but for some reason i'm still hanging
around.  time for an adventure...

so, you atlantans... atlantites?  atlantoids? ;)  i know pretty close to
zero about the area...  i know where downtown is, and that decatur is east
of there, and that toco hills and emory and all of that is ne of
downtown...  but i have no clue about where i might *want* to live or how
much rent might be or any of that. (and where is little five points
anyway, and is it completely insane or just kinda hip?)  any ideas / clues
/ warnings (grin)  would be more than appreciated.  and no, i'd wouldn't
be moving during all the olympic weirdness, sometime mid-sept to late-dec
probably.

ok. i just had to chip in with a hot caramel enema list. here are my
anti-suggestions, in no particular order:

1. love my way - the psychedelic furs. of course, i wasn't too thrilled with
their version either. it's an all-time barfer.

2. hooked on a feeling - bj stewart. *urp*

3. you make me feel like dancin' (or any leo sayer song). 'nuff said.

4. these boots are made for walking - nancy sinatra. just imagine the attitude,
the thigh-high boots, the eyeliner. it boggles the mind.

5.  stuffin' martha's muffin - mojo nixon and skid roper. the girls' ultimate
    revenge against the iron rule of mtv's playlist. just the thought of amy
    growling "i wanna put it in, martha quinn" makes my butt hurt.

6. as an encore to this short set, i suggest dude looks like a lady by
aerosmith.

just a few ideas. it's late, so all apologies necessary to avoid flameage
are safely in the mail.

"funky town" by lipps inc. i hate this song so much i once got out of a
                     car, in minneapolis in january (-35 degrees outside), and
                     walked rather than listen to it on the car stereo.. i was
                     riding in the car of a die hard disco fan... yuck.

"puppy love" by donny osmond

"copa cabana" by barry manilow (although there are b.m. songs i really like,
this one makes me want to puke)

"like a virgin" by madonna.

i have to add my vote to forever ban "achey breaky heart" by billy ray cyrus.
this is probably the most annoying song i have ever heard, and if i ever heard
amy sing the words "don't you break my heart, my achey breaky heart" i am afraid i would have to go home and shoot myself.

hey all! been a while, been a busy gal!

guess what!  two fabulous nights ago i saw *joan!*  she was wonderful.
her voice has matured, she's sexy as all hell at 55, and, yes you guessed
it, she sang welcome me!  and diamonds and rust and dont' think twice,
and play me backwards, and she was breathtaking.  got great reviews.  so
anyway, after the concert, me and my gf were walking back to the car and
a full moon rose over the wasatch mountains.  it was purdy.  perfect
encore.  that's all, i'll shutup now and go back to lurkdom.

thanks for making me laugh!  i'm not sure if this goes for other people
but when hot caramel enemas were first mentioned i really couldn't
stomach the thought at all - i mean i was really repulsed.  now,
however, i'm on the floor laughing at the suggestions.  hce (a new
abbreviation for the abbreviate-happy folks out there) *are* actually
the appropriate consequence to ig playing or having to play any of these
songs!

all right.  fessing up...i actually liked that song...ummm - - i even
bought the record <hiding my face in embarrassment>.  i haven't thought of
that song for years.  geez am i getting old.

i must admit, i wasn't popular in elementary & high school because i never
like the "in groups".  i was infatuated with abba for about 6 years when
they were as out as vanilla ice is today.  groups like renaissance i tried
to get friends to enjoy, but i think the violins made them vomit (remember
the 80s were nothing but elec. guitar and that horrible synthesizer!!)
even today with the indigo girls, the guys at work poke fun at me because
everything i name and do is ig related.  my novell netware server is named
indigo, my windows 95 workstation is named indigo, i have ig bitmaps and
screensavers, plus i would bet that any one of you on this list could login
as my user id because my passwords are all ig related.  ( wondering how
many others use ig related passwords.  i'm running out of ideas and i think
password renewal is coming up...)

anyway, i just had to admit that i liked that song by charlene.

it most definately is. bring just about anything you want in except
glass bottles and booze. chairs are cool, but if you bring full size
lawn chairs, you may be unpopular with short folks behind you ;).

got your t-shirt in the mail yesterday, and am completely thrilled with
it. you and deb are absolutely to be commended on a job very, very well
done. the shirt has such an "elegant" touch about it - something quite a
bit more special than the average decorated shirts one sees in a crowd.
the artwork and the ideas have just the right touch.

also, your tight organization and hard work in getting all the orders out
(and so promptly!) are amazing.  my hat's off to you for all you've done

hi all-

i just thought i'd let you all know that jenny received a postcard from
amy last week.  she read it to me over the phone, and it was something
like, sorry it took me so long to get this to you, heard about your
accident, get well soon.  i can't thank you all enough for helping me get
her that.  it came at a great time, too, because she went in for her
third surgery on tuesday. they were taking nerve from her leg and
transplanting it in her arm, and i think they might have done some
reconstruction on her elbow as well.  i haven't been able to get a hold
of her since, but will try again tonight. she promised me before she went
in, though, that she would be just fine and all ready for newport, thanks
again to all of you and trant setting it up.  we'll be easy to
spot--jenny's left arm will be all bandaged again. thanks again to
everyone for everything.

hey folks,

  i went to the falcon ridge folk festival last sunday to check out
the nields, martin setxon, and a bunch of others and i found a really
woderful act i thought i'd plug here.  june rich. folks from philly
probably know them.  they are a 5 piece rock/folk band that just
knocked me over.  fronted by two women, both with accoustic guitars,
they do intellegent music with quite the flair.  i picked up thier
disc and i do recommend them.

  while i was there, kimberly and i were sporting our new list
t-shirts.  no fewer that 5 people stopped me to read the back and ask
how they could get them (the only comment approaching negative was
that "things could be bigger for us old folks with bad eyes").  anyway
its good advertizing for the list and people were very dissappointed
to find out they were a limited edition.  you hit the big time deb & rob!

i know a&e are going to love them....

you are not alone. all of my passwords are ig related. i periodically =
have a ig bitmap image i made from the scanned photos you sent me.. i =
tend to listen to a minimum of 2 indigo girls cds at work everyday. =
fortunately no one at my work place really makes fun of me. all though =
one woman expressed suprise that a man (and on old man at that) was so =
into indigo girls.

my main frame passwords change every 2 months, and i too am running out =
of ideas.. i have started using concatenations of the girls names i.e. =
salray, amily, rayliers. only problem with this is, since these are not =
real words, i tend to forget them if i don't use them often.

actually i've been contemplating this. it all depends on how much interest
there is and how big the bribes are :)

the deal is that in order to be able to sell them at the same price as
before there would probably have to be a minimum of 36 orders placed (i'd
have to check with the printer to be sure).

if you're interested, let me know. this doesn't mean it's a sure thing,
it's just that i want to get a feel for how many still want a shirt. if
there's enough interest, i'll let the list know and then start taking
orders again.

hello,

my gf and i joined the list 2 weeks ago and love it. this is our first =
post. we have some questions.
first of all, what is a tape tree? can one obtain boots without having =
any to trade?

has anyone out there seen the jcsar video? is it the making of or an =
actual performance? we have ordered it, but the mail is slow.

does anyone have the early stuff like color me grey and blue food? and =
could we get a tape of these?

could we ask more questions?

we live in norman, oklahoma and ig has never played in our state. we =
made two trips to dallas for concerts in the last few years (so and =
rop). this month, we are rising to true devotion status and will attempt =
to catch the austin and dallas shows without missing a day of work. this =
will involve driving all night to get home after the austin show, but we =
are betting the mood will be a good one. then, we have two days of work =
and back to texas for show number 2! we'd try for three and do santa fe, =
but i'm getting too old (33) for that. my gf is 8 years younger and =
thinks we can do it. ah youth!

anyway, just wanted to introduce ourselves to y'all and express an =
interest in those shirt everybody loves so much. we have a web page =
under construction, the mystical krewe of king pookie, visit us =
sometime. we hope to eventually have lots of great ig links among other =
things. my family is from new orleans, hence the mardi gras themes. our =

well, concidering i really dont have much else to do, i'll volunteer to do

everything it seems. anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and add two

"love child" - the supremes, here is a song which should have never been
written, recorded, performed, etc.

"dance this mess around" - the b-52's, i can see it now...a and e in big
bouffant wigs dancing around the stage...

one other thing ig should never, ever, ever do - they should never wear
those headset microphones, ever! imagine blood and fire being sung to
you by someone who looks like a time-life operator. this is the stuff of
nightmares.

hi y'all again.

i'm still in the process of constructing my web page which should be (partly)
up and running after i get back to school, sometime after the 20th of this
month. i need to find out the password to my new vax account, as well as go
through and organize my ideas for everything.

anyhow, those of you out there with web pages--if you would like to have a
link to your web page included in my set of ig pages, please e-mail me. i'd
love to have a list of pages built by list members to show the world who we
are!

just so you'll know what you'll be getting into...i will have a set of ig pages
titled "planet indigo"...one page is devoted to a listing and description of
my ig albums and my $0.02 on them, another is devoted to list info (this is
where y'all's links would be), and another is devoted to the words of wisdom
found in the songs, and yet another is devoted to ig links. if any of you

   i'm writing this slow 'cuse i know you can't read fast.  we don't live

whether it is a boy or a girl so i don't know if you are an aunt or uncle,
yet.
your uncle john fell in the whiskey vat.  some of the men tried to pull
him out, but he fought them off and drowned.  we cremated him, and he
burned for about 3 days. three of your friends when off the bridge in a
pick-up.
one was driving, the other two were in the back.  the driver got out.  he
rolled down the window and swam to safety.  the other two drowned.  they
couldn't get the tailgate down in time.  not much more news this time,
nothing much happened.

i know i said my last post was my last on the topic of bad songs, but i
just had to write one more.

i was listening to my new aztec camera (are their any other ac fans out
their? rick maybe? or other old folks like me? ) boot, and they played
in one concert:

jump - by van halen (the deeply pained and emotional version, of
course) and
tie a yellow ribbon.

i wasn't suprised by jump, becasue it was probably ac's biggest selling
single in the u.s., but i wouldn't have expected the latter. i gotta
admit, though, it was kind of fun. maybe hearing ig sing a rousing
version of some of those sappy 70's songs would be better than a hce
afterall.

ok...for all of you who had your '96 list shirts stolen by your significant
other; or dripped chocolate ice cream on the one you already have and
ruined it; or weren't on the list last time and missed out; or just want
another one (hey dwayne!); or were in some way deadline challenged...here's
your chance to get one of the shirts!

first of all, we need a minimum of 36 orders to run the shirts again. but
based on the email i got we are close to that number so i will go ahead and

i heard that the a&e are going to be in minneapolis for a concert in
september. does anyone know if they're going to stop thru chicago for
a concert???

also...can someone give me the info on the minneapolis concert. i have
some time off before i start my full-time job in september and i have yet to

i have seen nothing posted about list people trying to arrange a meeting
place at newport.  i had to read all those moo posts when y'all went to new
orleans.  now i am going to a large festival and silence is all i hear.  i
know a lot of folks will be there from the list.  i just think it is so
cool to meet people who i've read about and spoken to for like 2 years
(margaret!).  i want to see faces--faces i tell you!!  are we all going to
wear our deb/rob shirts?  are we going to gather and eat ben and jerry's
together?  are we going to convene and plan a way to sneak backstage to
meet ig?  we really should plan something.  i have never been to newport
and am therefore unfamiliar with the area.  could someone more organized
than me and who knows the area try and help arrange something.  i mean
others do want to meet each other, right?  i just think it'd be fun :).
suggestions?  hints?  commentary?  flames?  hate-mail?  all welcome!

yes, i am definitely wearing my new stylin' tshirt on sunday.  yes, i am

yes there is a dallas show...and tickets are on sale as far as i know.
the show is at the bronco bowl...which seats about 3000 that's all. so
if enough people hear about it..it will sell fast, but they haven't
really made it public. nothing in the papers or the radio...nothing at
all....if anybody is planning on going i can give you info about the
bronco bowl...directions, set up and whatever else you want to know
about big d!!!

it is somewhat different -- more "themed" than most of her other
albums, but i like it just as much as any other album (though my fav
is still "not a pretty girl").

"diliate" is her most personal album to date. i don't (nor do i want
to) know the details but its clear just listening to the album that
something happened to her and hit her pretty hard. its a classic case
of grief -- denial, anger, bargining, and acceptance (maybe a little
weak on the denial part, if your writing an song about something its
hard to deny it happened ;)) its amazing the sheer amount of honesty
and humanity she can pack into her songs....

hi folks,

well i've been to newport exactly one time so i'm hardly an expert,
however, i see we have a couple of options for meeting up.

the event is at ft. addams state park and is on a penninsula facing
out into the atlantic. the stage is set afont the stage itself.
there is a camera pit infront of the stage and food vendors off on the
wings up front.

we can either meet (1) infront of the stage, (2) off to the side of
the stage, (3) far back from the stage near the water.

meeting in front of the stage may be problematic. its packed and
people keep moving through there. however, its the best spot for
watching, singing and dancing and we'd already be there.

far back from the stage at a landmark would be an easy place to
gather -- but then we are a long way off. we can move, but it may be
hard to move a group of 30 people into prime position.

i think the best bet may be to meet off to the side of the fort
(right as you are facing the stage). its a good gathering spot with
not so much traffic, and we can move into position with less effort.

hopefully someone with years of nff experience can crystalize a
plan...

hmmmmm.  i guess once you've seen "mitzi" perform it on the big stage in
aussie (a la priscilla queen of the desert) you can't help but love the
song.  it's just too hilarious!  my fiance and i even considered it as our
"first dance" at our wedding for sheer camp value.  (i mean, the only
thing sappier than a first dance is playing i've never been to me for

well i have been to nff 3 years running. i think that the best plan is to
set up a specific time for people to meet on right side of the stage (as
your facing it) by the water, next to the rock walls where every one goes
swimming. i believe that last year lister's gathered in that area.

ah yes! free at last! i know several of you were very concerned for my well
being over the past week. but fear not. for i have escaped my evil kidnapper,
swamp lady, and i am free to post once again. :) it was a terrible ordeal.
there was frightfully little igc in my life last week. but now all is well.
(i'm sure y'all are just hanging on my every word about now.)

a few things of vast importance...no, really!

i know this is really short notice, but i do have two (that's 2, yes, dos)
weekend passes to newport for sale. the passes are for sat and sun only, (not
friday night) and i'll get them to whoever responds first for cost of tickets
($55 each) plus whatever it costs to mail them to ya. (i mean if i had to do
it overnight or fed ex, if it was a regular 32 cent envelope i wouldn't
bother, duh, shut up now lorindigo :) along with the two newport tix i'm
offering up a campsite for two at worden pond family campground which is about
25-30 min from the park. it's a nice campground, that's where i'll be. again,
i'm asking just for the cost of the site which is $34 total for the weekend
(friday night thru sunday morning.) if anyone is interested, email me
immediately!! cuz we only have a few days before we'll be newport-bound.
*dance of joy ensues*

on meeting at newport:
the meeting at the hotel is fine, but we'll also want to set up a spot at the
park. someone's already mentioned this, but i'll second the motion. what we
did last year was to meet at 12 noon by the rocks which are to the right side
of the stage, and between the water and the food/craft booths. the spot is way
out in the open well away from the stage and the crowd. we didn't have
much luck last year, but that was cuz we were shy *blush* we can certainly try
again this year. we'll bring a sign, or a flag, or maybe we'll stand around
and moo occasionally, or maybe we'll just all take our shirts off and wave...
ok, maybe not. anyway, you'll figure it out. i have faith in y'all. *more
joyous dancing ensues*

on songs...caramel enema...girls shouldn't cover (btw cute, very cute reminds
me of an enema story, but no one wants to hear that...shut up lorindigo!)

someone mentioned that the girls _shouldn't_ cover mandy. i don't know if
anyone pointed this out already, but i have some news for you guys...they did.
:) (ha!!) actually, it was a long time ago, and it was meant as a joke,
(obviously) and they only sang a few lines before they started laughing and
fumbling around cuz they didn't know all the words. but they most certainly
did it. :)

hey all, my e-mail account went belly-up for the past few days and
i had been unable to fix it(summer staff here at the comp lab was no
help) but today i did something right and i'm back on track. i have

i did not like dilate at first--found ani's voice whiny and her guitar
harsh.  however, i could still pick out her poetic lyrics.   i'd even
remembered some from when i'd seen her in concert this year.  after
listening to the album a while, i fell back in love w/ ani's talent &
ability to grow and change in style.  my fav's off this album are
untouchable face, dilate, done wrong and shameless. ani packs her music w/
so much emotion i can really feel it and relate.  sometimes, i find that
the most beautiful things in this world take some getting used to.  i don't
think dilate is my absolute fav. ani album, but it definitely deserves a
good listening to.

anyhow, i have just moved into my new one-room humble abode for the next ???

hi, ummmm here's the deal...my friend has been having major financial
trouble for the past couple of months and when the roseland tix went
on sale, i was able to buy them but she couldn't afford to charge
them...when she called ticketbastard yesterday, they said that they
had a couple of more tickets left...when she called today to buy them
they said it was sold out...all i can say to that is get your damn
story straight ticket master.  all their employees have to do is sit
there and answer the phone and type a couple of numbers into their
computer...and they can't even do that???  anyway, my friend is very,
very upset and she really wants to go...if anybody has tickets she'd
be willing to pay full price...(she says two would be preferable, i
told her not to push her luck : ) )  also, i'd be willing to trade a
newport weekend pass for one of the tix... let me know, i'd really,
really appreciate this.

hi everybody!

first, big smile and hugs to all who sent well wishes for the
bar exam.....they certainly were well needed and appreciated.
i will not know the results of the exam until november, all i can
say is that is over. whew...i am not worrying about it until then.

one more little thing, since i know dreams have been a topic before
on the list i did want to share the dream i had in between testing days
of the bar exam....here's the dream:

i was running down a "mainstreet" type of street ..you know
small shops and storefronts....and it was a really good sort of "i feel so
strong" sort of run ....when all of a sudden i nearly ran over emily walking
out of one of the shop's and then i thought i must be in georgia somewhere,
wherever emily lives...and it was like emily recognized me when she
saw me and invited me to this party....the next thing i know i am at this
really fancy sort of house...tons of people around, and i was worried
i would be too sweaty and gross to be at a party but , not to worry...
there i was, wearing this toupe colored linen pants suit....very cool....
and it was like i knew everyone and everyone knew me........amy was
there ...emily was giving tours of the house....in one room there was a
large screen set up and there was an "unveiling" of new concert footage
or some project they were working on .....very cool, a real crowd pleaser
and highlight of the party...but then it was time to leave and as i was
getting ready to leave when emily invited me to her "real" home......and
about 5 of us from the party drove out with emily to a country home that
was sort of a mess and not fancy at all ....and watched cable and ate
popcorn.
it was like we stayed up all night just sitting there together watching tv
until sunrise...and as the sun came up i knew i had to leave ...and didn't
want to,
so i thought if i asked emily to show me her guitars she might let me stay
longer...and she agreed and i asked lots of questions about what to look for
when buying an electric guitar....and she gave me advice which i pretended to
understand, but didn't really, ...and then i left ( and woke up).....

really strange....huh??

must have been stress....

i also wanted to write about the ani difranco disk, dilate.
i really liked it when i got it....the only other ani disk i had heard
before dilate was not a pretty girl, and i never clicked with it....
i tried so hard to like it and just didn't......but after hearing so many
good things about ani from people on this list, i gave it another shot
with dilate and i really like dilate.

i think the difference for me was that the songs on dilate
seem to be more produced...more layers of things going on....just
made me want to keep listening...

in the discussion thus far, deb said dilate was a departure for ani...
do you think dilate is more mainstream than her earlier work?
it is hard to characterize anything that i have ever heard by ani as
mainstream... but hey i just don't know....any more comments or
suggestions about ani are welcome by me!!

okay, so i watched the olypics closing ceremonies in hopes of having
them do some coverage of the decatur sq. happenings, which someone
said ig were playing at, but they didn't show anything. imho, this
was a big let down, not to have ig be a more prominent part of the
whole olympic thing, since it was in their backyard. it would have
been awesome to see a&e perform, but maybe it was their choice not
to, which i totally respect.

so, i guess my question is did ig really play in decatur sq.?  if so,
did anyone record it, audio or video?  what did they play, etc.?

i was afraid of that.....this means that while we are waiting in line
for the ig show....we will miss all the cool stuff at the wild stage
(just like i missed patti smith at the wild stage last year while
waiting in line to see her at the opera house...crapcrapcrap)

this may sound sacriligious....but i may just pass on ig at the
arena and park it at the wild stage (after all... i was fortunate
enough to see 'em at n'awlins...but i've never seen m. malone...
and really want to see the daemon artists in a bad way....)

hi peeps,

no, the girls haven't been on these shores since before the release of
12cc ... _but_ there have been a few igspotter's moments recently.

phoenix festival scored 3 points ... neil young played 'down by the river',
which i yet have to get his original recording. he was excellent, btw,
playing all my favourite songs and accompanied by crazy horse too.

sarah lee _and_ gail ann dorsey sneaked in (anyone else spot them?) ...
sarah was playing bass for david bowie who, unfortunately, was commiting
crimes with his own songs, so i sloped off to watch the cocteau twins ... who
were brilliant. gail was being as great as ever for ani difranco. i'm sold
on old ani now. got to get the back catalogue (which isn't officialy
available here).

and last of all, igs on prime time bbc! the highlights segue (sp?) on last
night's coverage finished with some footage of mohamed ali and the
olympic fountain, accompanied by the ig's version of 'midnight train' ...
woo-woo!

btw, if anyone has last week's select, the 'we hate jimmy hill' flag, of
which there is a wee piccie, was ours (at phoenix) ... and some bum stole
it on the last night.

sorry for nigc but just had to share this little story with you :)

i posted last week about seeing dar williams play in london.  well, i was so
impressed that i wrote her a letter and posted it to the venue two gigs down
the line, which happened to be glasgow.  thought nothing more of it until
saturday when a letter arrives from our listie friend helene b.  she's in
scotland for a couple of weeks and her and joanne went to see dar play in
glasgow.  anyway, her letter says she just had to write to tell me that they
saw dar, she was really great, and then better still, they met her
afterwards and got their tickets signed and had a chat.  helene mentions
that a friend of hers had seen her play in london, and dar asks 'what's her
name' - when helene says 'seffy', dar says 'oh yes, she told me you were
coming, weren't there supposed to be three of you' (i'd mentioned in my
letter that helene, joanne and gail were going to see her, but gail didn't
go to that gig after all)  anyway, she told helene to 'tell seffy, thanks
for the letter- i really liked it...' or something like that - helene says
she was so surprised she couldn't quite remember the exact words!

wow, dar liked my letter *skip!* (well, i'm excited - even tho' my friends
think i'm sad - 26 and still a groupie!)

so, the moral of the story is: if you want to get a letter to someone,
don't bother going through the fan club, try sending it to a venue on the
tour. it's always worked for me :)

(hmm, i did invite dar to pop along and guest at speakeasy tonight if she
fancied it... wonder if she'll show... if only!)

among a group of performers who will be celebrating the life of woody
guthrie next month. reprinted without permission:

guthrie next month in the first rock concert at severance hall.   <severance

guthrie," a series of concerts, educational workshops, films and photo
exhibitions sept. 23-29.  robert santelli, education director at the rock
and roll hall of fame and museum, announced the plans yesterday.

son, arlo, billy bragg and ani difranco.  proceeds will benefit the new york
city-based woody guthrie archives.
        the week is being organized by the archive, the rock hall and case

of famer is still very strong today," santelli said.
        "you can't talk about lyrics or social or political content in rock

emily played solo and also played with michelle malone and michael
lorant..... amy was on a plane somewhere and didn't make it back on
time.

i'm trying to remember what they played.... just got back a few hours
ago and i'm nearly asleep :) these are not in the right order...

yes! finally something close to me!  i live in berea, ohio (just outside
of cleveland) and out of all these concert dates, there is finally a
possible one within eight hours!  a couple months ago in the chronicle
there was an advertisement for the garden party (sponsored by cleveland's
lgb) and ig was mentioned in the list of performers, however no other
future ad included them nor did they actually perform at the garden
party.  so either somebody had the wrong info or ig changed their mind.
hopefully this will not be the case this september at severance hall!

hi ya'll,

i am extremely stressed out right at the moment as i was the individual
responsible for getting campsites for newport and i received a call
yesterday that our campground is overbooked and am i ever going to be in
trouble...

does anybody know of an extra site anywhere in the newport vicinity for
sunday nite? there are 6 of us making the trek from the toronto area and i
am really in a mess...please, even if there is some wonderful person that
wouldn't mind sub-letting for the night?!?!?!?!!?

there were supposed to be 2 of us staying saturday nite but i believe that
is an impossibility...

i don't post very often to the list but i am counting on the sense of list
helpfulness to make my life a little bit less stressed...

  did the person who was doing the "songs before they were songs" tape
happen to get the most excellent version of reunion on the 4/9/93
alexandria, va tape.  oh my goddess!  i still have chills.  it's one of my
fav ig songs and amy's talking alot before the song saying how she'd drank
like a 12 pack of beer and stayed up till 6 o'clock in the morning and
wrote the song.  they didn't even have a title for it at this time.  it's
so great.
   well, if it's not on the sbtws tape, fear not...it will be on my "no
curfews" compilation tape (supposed to be done last may).  this is a tape
with my favorite live versions of ig stuff.
   also, i am getting tons of requests for poster and merchandise info.
does anyone have a list and prices of ig merchandise still laying around?

i don't know for sure how you all can help, but you are all always so great
that i figured i could turn to you even if just for moral support and some
prayers to whatever god/goddess you believe in. my 15 year old daughter was
coerced by some older guys (including her brother who is heavily into drugs
and anything else illegal) to run away to florida. we live in mass, quite a
haul. they stole a jeep and the guys are supposedly armed. :( i've done
everything i can think of. i've called the police, called friends, found
numbers on old bills, etc. the police have put out an apb, checked airports,
etc. now, we're sitting here ... waiting. waiting is the worst. i'm trying
to keep my sanity. it isn't easy. all i'm asking is that you all keep sarah
in your hearts. she has no clue as to the danger she's put herself in.

howdy cleveland people!

i'm so excited that i might get to see the girls with springsteen @ the same
concert!!!  now i'm not so upset that i can't travel to the august shows.
anyway, so what do y'all think this show is going to be like?  will the
girls do any of their own stuff or just covers?  whatdaya think?  think
it'll be hard to get tix?  hard or not, i'll be there!  maybe a coupla of us
should meet up for the show.  i know i've talked to you, kellie, about
hooking up for the ill-fated d.c. show.  i live in strongsville so cleveland

i've been trying to work out the lyrics to the chorus of gotm and i'm stuck on
the line where it goes :

i know someone posted the lyrics before and i thought i kept a copy of it but
whaddya know - i've gone and trashed it. so <grovel, grovel> if someone has a
copy they could forward me privately (so as not to waste bandwidth) that would
be supercharged...it would also make it easier for me to singalong !! :)

.. some time ago i put out a request for some tori boots from the
current tour. i ignored all of the offers that came in ( because i'm
stoopid ). anyway now that the tour has been going a while and has had a
chance to develop ( in much the same way an ig tour does ) i would like
to see if anyone has any shows available ... i have ig to trade, though
it is the standard stuff ... has anyone got the july 21st shows in
portland, according to the tori web site these were awsome ..

just have to let y'all know... if you love ig (and we all do) then you'll
also love sweeter than wine (imho) ! i've seen them a bunch of times in
the area and they continue to be great ! it's two women, both sing both
play guitar - dawn n denise, and sometimes feature guest musicians.

grossed out by stevie wonder's version of john lennon's "imagine" that he
performed during the closing ceremonies.  that song was right after the
moment of silence that was requested, and for stevie to butcher that
classic song was disgraceful.

i couldn't agree more! i had to turn the station. "imagine" , imho, is =
one of the most beautiful songs ever written and i think stevie wonder =
destroyed it. and whoever arranged the backing instrumentation should be =
taken out and shot. repeatedly! i mean there was almost a disco feel to =
the drum tracks...absolutely putrid.

   does anyone have any info on the roseland venue?  how big is it, when
do the doors open, etc.  is it theater style seating or
nightclub/tables?  do they serve dinner-type food (any vegetarian
stuff)?  is there parking available close by or am i better off taking
the train/subway?  how safe is that neighborhood at night?

   i've seen discussions of plans to meet at newport (see you there! :)
and hampton beach, but nothing so far on roseland.  are we going to have
a list-meet there too (before, after, during?)  anyone know the venue
well enough to suggest a spot to meet, possibly during the break after
the opening band (is mm opening at the roseland)?

i would just like to make a comment about the posters that you can order via
the fan club. they are folded. they have huge creases and are hardly worth
framing. i was very disappointed, especially since i ordered a poster from
a kd lang fan club and they were nice enough to roll the poster into a nice
little cylinder.

hee.. :) actually, the server was recently upgraded with more ram,
which could be resulting in the speedup. although the ig lsit is one
of the biggest on netspace, there are many others, and many thousands
of pieces of mail go through every day.

as someone pointed out, though, school is out, so the server is
getting less of a load from other sources, which is likely resulting
ina general speed-up.

for those of you who are curious, though, the list currently has about
780 subscribers.

was the americans?  the had a poll on the news last night that said that
gymnastics was the most popular sport, but if i recall, it was the only
sport on ;) !!!  also, did you know that nbc pre-recorded 146 of those
hallmark-esque tear-jerker spots that they littered the olympics with.  i
think that "live olympic coverage by nbc" is some sort of oxymoron.

whew!! had to vent...i also agree with the stevie wonder bit. i think
john was probably rollin' in his grave...

well, now that all the shirts are just about gone it is time to see what is
leftover!
it seems we have an excess of over $100!!!
we did an awesome job guys and gals! not only did we get some awesome shirts
out there...but we have some money extra to help out others with!

i plan on donating the money locally to an organization called grow.  many of
my friends recomended this org as being a good place to give our money to,
and feel confident that it will go to good use.  grow organizes many
community events for the gay and lesbian community...which is great!  but the
main reason i chose them is because of their work with the community with
regards to aids issues.  they offer many different counseling programs for
people with aids, friends of, and parents of people w/ aids.  also, they
offer free testing and they are continuing to spread education of the topic.
they do all of this on a volunteer-not for profit basis...which i think is
to be comended!  so that was my decision, and deb aggreed whole heartedly.  i
am sure on the next run, she will donate any leftovers locally in her area
too, so a purchase of a shirt helps others too:)
again, i would like to thank everyone who helped with the shirts and to all
of you who got one!  thanks a million!
i leave for ecuador on tuesday..the 13th...so if anyone has any questions for
me before i go...please direct them my way asap!

hi all,

about 6 months ago i started a project called "the secret marriage of =
newt & jessie". this project is about exploring the musical creativity =
of fans of indigo girls. i have been asking folks to send me about 15 =
minutes of recorded original music. i will then make a compilation tape =
and mail it back out to those who are participating.

so, if you are a musically creative person and wish to participate, send =
me an e-mail and i will fill you in on details.

thus far i have received about 7 or 8 tapes (or about 60 minutes worth =
of songs), and i would really like to have a few more before i wrap up =
this project, however, i am trying to wrap this up within the next 2 =
weeks.

it's hard to blame nbc-- they offered an alternative to the network
coverage in 1992 but few bothered to signup for their triple cast
pay-per-view format. i had it last time and friends actually made fun of
me. i was more embarrassed by the hegemonic attitude of the u-s-a crowd
than i was with nbc.

it's a huge possibility that i may have two extra tickets for the philly
electric factory show on aug. 15th. if anyone wants to stake a claim on
these bad boys i need to know asap so that i can get them out to you by

first serve because i need to get rid of them and the show is sold out.

i would like to know if there is anyone on the list that is interested in
organizing something whereby listmembers as a group can work together to
claim a large block of territory close to the stage for this sunday's ig show
at the newport folk festival.  those of you who have been to the newport folk
(and fitness) festival know how chaotic the morings can be, especially on the
sunday morning, which is the day that ig usually plays.  in fact, according
to some people i have spoken to, the sunday morning has become crazier and
crazier over the past few years as ig's popularity has grown and the audience
has become more ig-fan dominated.  this is not to say that ig fans are crazy,
but this has been the trend.  heck, by the end of next week i will have gone
to my 36th ig show.  that is crazy!!!!!

anyway, for those of you who are not familiar with how the mornings of each
festival day are run, i will breifly summarize.  at around 6am or so, the
gates to the park are opened and those who are waiting (on saturday there is
usually only a handful of people, but on sunday, there is usually about 100
or more) sprint or bicycle for about a mile to where the chutes are set up at
the front of the festival grounds.  then there is about a five hour wait
until the next race, when they open up the chutes and start letting people
in.  at this point, the people who queued up after the earlier race go
through the chutes, give the park people their ticket and sprint (no bikes
this time) to the stage area with a tarp or beach blanket or bedsheet or
whatever they can use to claim their space once they have found a
satisfactory space for them and their friends.  based on what i have
described, it is obvious that this set up is based upon the age old darwinian
model of survival of the fittest, and the fattest (i.e me) usually get stuck
somewhere in the back, if not in the bay, unless they are traveling with
olympic athletes.

what i propose is that the members of this list who will be attending these
shows should pool its talents so that we can claim as much territory as
possible as close to the stage as possible. this can be done in the
following way so that everybody can contribute. we would divide the group
into the following three teams:

bikers: these people will be responsible for bringing a bicycle to the park
and when the front gates are opened, pedaling their indigo-hearts out and
claiming the front queues at the chutes for the runners.

runners: unless we are in short supply of runners, the runners should use
the first leg as a warm-up.  you want to be competitive so you can get a feel
for what comes next, but you don't want to burn yourself out or get hurt.
run a good race, but be ready for the second leg when the gates open.
everything depends on the runners getting through the chutes quickly and
getting to the stage as fast as possible and then once you get there, being
aggressive enough to claim territory.  the runners also want to be aware of
what each other is doing.  don't fight over spaces.  teamwork is the key.

pack mules:  this is what we get for eating that extra twinkie and smoking
pot and watching speed racer all day long.  the bikers and runners are
responsible for getting the space that we are sitting in, making it possible
to actually see amy and emily instead of two little shapes at the end of our
binocular lenses.  thus we have to pull our weight (pun intended) as well.
the racers cannot be bogged down with things like beach chairs and coolers
and the other necessities of a day long music festival.  thus, as pack mules,
it is our responsibility to carry all of the crap, while the athletes claim
the territory.  a word to the wise.  slow and steady wins the race.  there
are five hours between the time the parks open and the time the chutes open.
this gives you plenty of time to make two or even three trips back and forth
with stuff.  it is far better to carry a few things several times than it is
to try to carry armloads of stuff and try to make it there in one trip.  if
you are as out of shape with me, and you try to be a hero, you will die!!!

it is now tuesday night.  most of you will read this wednesday morning.
since many people will already be on their way to the festival on friday, we
have two full days to get organized.  i am going to be away from my computer
all tomorrow, so someone else should be responsible for figuring out the best
way of coordinating all of this.  i have laid out a game plan and will do
whatever i can to facilitate this, but i need some help.  since saturday is
not as crazy of a day, we might not want to bother doing anything then, but
sunday will be completely and totally nuts!!!  if possible, we should make
firm plans to meet at some point on saturday and prepare as much as possible
on saturday for sunday.  i know that it seems like i am taking all of this a
bit too seriously, and i probably am, but trust me.  when ig goes on stage
sunday night, you will be a lot happier if you are 10-20 feet away from the
stage as opposed to being 100-200 feet from the stage.  i also think that
this is a good opportunity, not only to simply meet others that you only
communicated with previously, but also to share a common experience and be
involved in something together.  it would give us a chance to truly come
together as a community, especially in an environment that promotes and
fosters the "every man/woman for himself/herself" attitude.

if you have read this far and are interested in participating in this
project, i thank you. i think it will be rewarding, fulfilling, and (dare i
say) possibly fun. talk to y'all soon.

regarding berts message about getting a good spot at newport:

it's very possible that i will have a backstage pass and so i might be
able to get into the grounds before the gates open. i would be quite
happy to save a spot at the front for some of the list folks ie. i'll
carry a tarp or blanket in and lay it down. i'll be staying at the hotel
that bert has organised..... i'll find out about the pass on saturday

well, if you're really interested, you can check out the web site at
http://www.netspace.org/ and read about the netspace project.

it's all volunteer-run (i'm actually one of the admins) and it's
purpose is for all members of the brown university community to have a
space to put up web pages, for a small yearly fee.  it was originally
started by donations from members of the phish community, and also
houses phishnet and hosts a phish list.  in that tradition, there are
many other musical lists and sites, such as the allmans, aru, god
street wine, etc.  normally it's $5/year to run a mailing list, but i
got an exception for this list, since we're so special.. :)

new harware is purchased using the funds from accounts and such.
brown is providing us with the network connection for free.

yes, my remote sure got a work-out when they showed those 'up close and
personal' pieces of crap.

and another thing (i wasn't going to waste bandwidth with my rantings but
since you're already reading this), it really bothered me when john tesh
referred to the women's gymnastics team as "little girls". these are
olympic-class athletes and they're still being referred to by mr. pretty boy
idiot as little girls? yes, they are young. but they're women!!!!

one more ranting and then i'll shut up. nbc ran a coca-cola commercial
during the gymnastics where they were dedicating that stupid 'always
coca-cola' song to the team and they changed the words to describe the
gymnasts. one line to the song was "...they're strong but so feminine".
maybe i'm reading too much into this, but they make it seem like it's bad
for a woman to be strong, but as long as she's feminine, it's alright, that
redeems her.

roseland is basically a humongous room with a stage.  there are seats against
the side walls but no tables/chairs.  i've only been there once to see the
specials and the toasters and they needed the floor for dancing, but who
knows there may be tables for the ig.  they serve food but i'm not sure what
kind.  there's a bar in the back and all restrooms/lounges are downstairs.
definitely take the subway.  you can take the #1 train from penn station to
50th st, then walk a couple of blocks.  i wouldn't drive into that area cause
you'll never find parking unless you use one of those garages that cost an
obcene amount of money.  once the show lets out there'll be a lot of people
in the area cause there's other little off-broadway theaters around.  it's
pretty safe.

whoever is going, enjoy the show!! i'll be seeing my other fav band, phish,
in pa. : ) but i'll be seeing the girls in norfolk!

the one my hubby uses is from a company called juno. it's a windows
application that's real easy to learn and use and provides all the free

yes, i agree! this is also the same man who said (as they were walking
to the next rotation) of the women's gymnastics team - "marching as if
to war!!" (ack, puke!!). someone needs to take him out and shoot him.

hope-at least that's what i think it's called.  i just got it, and have
only listened to it once, but it's ig even though it is kind of a
departure from their usual style.  kind of ambient with interesting
sounds.  oh well, just thought i'd share.

ok, i know this probably isn't important but i like to know details.  i
noticed that the first time i wrote to this list my full name appeared in
parentheses after my email address.  now it doesn't.  i don't mean to seem
anonymous; my name just disappeared into thin-uh-um-netspace air.  what
happened?

tack up some posters for me? i know she's heading there and i thought a

does anyone know if the h.o.r.d.e tour is coming in the
allentown-philadelphia region of pa? or anywhere close? i wouldnt mind
seeing dmb or bt... sorry if this has been posted already...

okay- sorry to take up bandwidth, but i can't seem to figure some email
stuff out, and i'm hoping someone will answer my questions

1) how do you get those nifty little quotes to go at the bottom of your
messages. i want one!!!!

2)how do you reply directly to the list? i can only seem to reply directly
to the person who sent the message.

3)when you do reply, how do you get part of the message of the original
sender to go into your message?

if anyone could help me out, i'd be sooo grateful. thanks in advance.

i'm seeing the horde at the blockbuster entertainment center in camden, on
8/24, which is right across the river from the phila. area.  don't get too
excited though- dmb is joining the horde tour *after* the camden show.  so is
natalie merchant.  i would have sold my tickets already, except for the fact
that i have been a blues traveler fan since their first album and am dying to
see them perform.

i think i remember hearing somewhere that the tour is going to be at hershey
park after that, but i'm not sure. dmb and nm may be performing in that
show.

nyc ...

i think it's in greenwich village ... i'm trying to find out so i can go

i called 1-800-buckeye today and there was no info listed as of yet
about how to get tix for the cleveland show. it is about a 3-4 hour drive
for me, but i totally want to go...so if there are others in michigan who
want to drive down together, or those in ohio who want to meet up....
just write and let me know.....plus any more info about how to get any
(preferably great) seats, i am all ears. anyone know for sure when tix
go on sale????
