happy chinese new year indigo folks, i know you guys were already talking
about this movie last year but we poor intellectually starving people in
taiwan didn't get to see the movie until yesterday. i just want to say i
like the soundtrack but how come they didn't put amy's version of_romeo and
juliet_ into the soundtrack?? i mean it would be a perfect song to put at
the end of the movie when they're showing the credits...of all the songs
titled romeo and juliet that's still the most powerful one i've heard.

finally saw the postman too; even got the soundtrack:)

you know when i first got on the list i hadn't known anything about
indigo girls, being in a foreign country and culture and all that; all i
knew was that i was in love with their music. and i
thought they were a couple! so on my first post i mentioned only people in
love could make such profound music. well most of the people responded
were very friendly people, very kindly told me they were not and warned me
i might got some angry letters. of course i also got letters who want to
kill me:)

if i had left the list back then i would never have gotten to know so
much about amy and emily and their music and their beautiful fans. oh and
ani difranco and husker du!!!:)

ps. if there are listers in germany or neighboring countries i'd like to
know you!

this is a good instinct. you have no political duty to come out that

don't pressure yourselves. it is hard enough, it takes some getting used
to. you've gotta kinda driiiift out. :) and try really hard to filter out
the shit people want to feed you. know that you're doing just fine no
matter what some ancient history lady says. ok? ok. and you're not a
wimp. coping with a radical revision of your self image takes a lot of
courage. ;)

hello everyone,

just to get in on these latest threads...i'm from connecticut

and my screenname...chocobo11...it's quite funny...whenever i'm online people
always ask me what it means.  most people assume it has to do with chocolate.
and then occasionally i'll meet someone who knows what it is and we'll have
a long conversation.  anyway my name comes from the final fantasy video game
series, made for nintendo by squaresoft.  it's a fantasy role-playing series.
a chocobo is a big yellow bird that helps you by storing stuff for you and
carrying you around places...since they run very fast and i run track i like
them.  also they have cool music whenever they're running :>  and 11 is my
lucky number...i was born on feb. 11 and also i was in 11th grade when i made
the screenname last fall.

well that's it for my rambling...i'm off to shop at my local indie music
store where hopefully i can spend my paycheck on some cool indigo import cds

hey there fellow ig fans!  i've been a lurker for a few weeks now, and i
finally got the courage to post <no, actually i just had a few questions>.
    i recently purchased "complicated girls", and i got all excited when i
looked at the names of the tracks.  i thought that there was a whole bunch of
new songs that i hadn't heard.  i got home, tore off the plastic, and to my
dismay i found out that "how long" was "galileo" (duh), "inspiration" was
"reunion, and "leave you go" was the "wood song", oh well, it still rocks!  i
was wondering why the names of the tracks were different, if anyone knows,
your knowledge would be greatly appreciated!!  thanks=)

finally coming out of my shell, i guess i should respond to the recent
discussions on the list.  first i believe was the meaning behind the screen
name.  my name in nicole, and 'nicky' has been forbidden for some unknown
reason, so nix came to be.  sixty-four is my favorite number, it's not
particularly lucky, but it's one of those things you just can't explain.  as
for the state poll, my vote has been privately e-mailed, so ignore this one,
but i'm sad to see that florida is dead last. (or most likely)  i swear ig
are worshiped here, but floridians ted to be a little shy.  favorite song
from "map"?? ...wish i could tell ya, but i haven't heard any of them <and
yes i'm holding my head down in shame> and for the beer, i'm not old enough
to even smell beer not to mention serve it, so a good old i.b.c would be
sufficiant.  ...just my meaningless thoughts.

hey y'all...decided to jump to aol tonite to see if anything was going
on...(spent 20 minutes downloading v 3.0...whew!).    just wanted to say
hello from my aol account to let everyone know i was telling the truth about
my aol identity.  i would say it from my alias icraft96, but it took me 10
minutes just to get to the server and i'm not giving my connection up just to
log out as jonicee and log back in as icraft96.  next  time, if i can

away from school over winter break).  did anyone see the movie scream?  i
nearly went beserk when i saw it... there's an indigo girls poster hanging on
neve campbell's character's wall.  so if you go see it, look for the
poster.  it's the swamp ophelia one...  :)

out of order. i've been "lurking" a while - don't you just love these
terms, it's like being back in high school - anyway, i think i've got
the basic hang of it.

would anyone like to be a real love and let me know how i can get a tape
of the new songs you are all talking about. being all the way over in
australia i expect we will have to wait even longer for the new album to
be released here.........as for them touring here, well i live in hope.
selling the car and coming on over the the us may be the only option.
there are some things you just have to do before you die, ie: see the ig

caught my eye. barnes and nobles here in kansas city had a limited edition
gold indigo girls: indigo girls cd for sale for $31.99. since i haven't ever
seen this edition anywhere else, i'm writing to all the knowledgable people
on this list as to whether this is a good price and worth buying. or, if
anyone knows where i can get this cheaper, please let me know. it just looked

carolyn, karey, andrea (not beth), and audrey all here at carolyn's having
a blast and wanting to rub it in that you're all not here. :) seriously,
though, you're all invited to this grand ole indigo-girls@netspace.orgy.

it all started when carolyn cruised this funky chick wearing a cool jester
cap on capitol hill, the most queer district of seattle.  some two hours
later that same chick knocked at her door wanting a tour of the city.  the
first stop was the erotic bakery.  it was carolyn's first time....at the
bakery, of course...and she thoroughly enjoyed the deflowerment though she
did find fault with the anti-feminist heterosexual misogynist leanings of
the place.  audrey was proud to have the honors of conquering the blushing
erotic bakery virgin, with the bells of her jester cap ringing the whole
time.

the tour continued with trips through the not-seedy-enough districts of
greenlake, fremont, and wallingford looking for places to, well, you
know.....for audrey to live. she's reaffirming the dyke side of her
identity and likes the safety of walking around in the dark in an area
where none of the men are interested because in capitol hill...

now she's looking for roommates :p ;) :) seriously. starting this
summer, after she gets paroled from penn. applications being taken now at
abstein@force.stwing.upenn.edu.

the highlight of fremont was the troll, who stares with a silver eye out
from under the aurora bridge and holds a volkswagon bug in his left hand.
he was a pretty decent guy, a little cold and stony.  sexuality uncertain.
possible convert.  (you know we recruit)  we passed by the center of the
universe, marked by a festive, multi-colored, signpost.  then went to
safegay (translation from carolyn-speak: safeway supermarket) where audrey
singlehandedly devirginized herself to the wonders of the warehouse
underneath the grocery store.  she *thought* all that was down there was a
bathroom.  luckily the sleazy guy left her alone.

from there audrey and carolyn continued on to more personal
landmarks...karey's father's place of work and kathy and sue's humble
abode, site of the pnw non-denominational winter gathering.  kathy and
sue, your lights were off...sorry we missed you.  the south west seattle
historical society is working with the city landmark board to put up a
marker, but the wheels of government bureaucracy are grinding a bit
slowly.  thus, a web site commemorating this eventful mission will sadly
be lacking photos.  you'll have to wait until the summer to learn what
audrey looks like in the buff with symbols from rites of passage painted
in chocolate on her glistening torso.  (sorry, susan ;)

next up, a visit to easy street records in wonderful west seattle.
decadence won over thrift, and audrey came out with the least complicated
single, the goodness cd, a shawn colvin cd with a bonus single, and
another song that you're just gonna have to wait for that loop tape to
hear. then we met karey.

in the temporary lapse of reality (carolyn's normal state of mind) we very
narrowly averted a car accident.  thanks to the magical powers of the
seatbelt (buckle up everybody!) all is well in mazda land.  at dinner
(luna park cafe) our conversation was extremely fascinating to a couple
of youngsters.  sexuality uncertain.  we encouraged their curiousity by
speaking louder and raunchier.  (has anybody seen the diner scene in
"when harry met sally?")

after dinner....we sat in the parking lot talking about crazy lesbian
movies while the gas-x took effect, then decided to try our hand at
gambling.  found ourselves at the handy-dandy oh-so-classy seven-eleven
and invested.  with nine dollars worth of scratch tickets--potential plane
tickets and newport '97 tickets--we drove to the viewpoint and turned the
brights on all the teeny boppers caught up in the first flush of raging
hormones, steamy windows and all.  in a ritual ceremony involving a
flashlight and cold hard cash (of the nickel variety), we revealed two
winning lotto tickets.

okay, not quite. we only won three bucks. which we reinvested for three
more scratch tickets.....to win another buck. which we reinvested. bye
bye newport.

next stop, the return to carolyn's.  the arrival of andrea (not beth) and
her juicy lesbian oranges.  we were quite amazed to hear what she could do
with an orange while driving.  stammb@nventure.com for lessons.

(karey's leaving now....having rejected andrea's orange-eating offer. we
hope she doesn't have regrets later. she says she knows her limit. we
know better. ;)

karey thinks she can make it home in a half hour.  andrea says it usually
takes her longer than that.  audrey's still contemplating the effects of
having a scotch before noon.  (get it at hopscotch in capitol hill...the
waitresses are friendly and cuuute)

so andrea's the new ax goddess.   she wowed us with her two-song
repertoire.  she's working on a third but the woman likes perfection so
our coaxing had no effect.  damn.

we are now going to ogle mary stuart masterson in fried green tomatoes and
ponder the lack of blatant lesbian content in this movie based on a
somewhat more blatant book. the movie came from the video store where
andrea works, which has no queer flicks whatsoever. fried green women is
the best we could do.

ms. badass marine, we're waiting until you get out here to write you a
song, but we did come up with a few new ways to worship you.
unfortunately they'd probably be censored. suffice to say we love you and
wish you'd take your boston harem out west to join the seattle debauchery
real soon.

okay, i just did my master's thesis on sexuality, so you could say i'm a
bit obsessed, but me, andrea (not beth), and audrey were just watching the
downloaded movie clip of the girls.  we still can't tell what amy is
saying, but after the interviewer asks if they've decided on the title of
the new album, someone in the background says, "life of a lesbian."  no
joke.  :)  hee hee.

congratulations on your first guitar!!  isn't it about the most fun thing
in the entire world (except perhaps seeing ig live?)  i got my first
guitar about a year ago (at the age of 19 so we're pretty similar here.)
my friend just kind of had this extra one lying around so he gave it to
me. i think maybe i'm actually supposed to give it back at some point but
not anytime soon.  i had never so much as touched a guitar before though
i played a few other instruments.
  another friend of mine taught me the only 3 chords she knew (a, d, and
e.) i hit the web and found olga and started running through ig songs for
an a d e song.  so the song i found was nashville which wasn't one of my
favorites at the time but i learned it anyway and since then have come to
love it.  only thing now is i should really branch out and learn some
non-ig tunes but i justcan't help myself.  i've learned joking, b&f, r&j
(at least they didn't write that one), ctf, kid fears, and center stage.
i've attempted land of canaan but i just can't seem to sing and play that
one at the same time.  so if you've managed it, go you.  (same thing with
strange fire.) just for kicks ieven tried to learn to play the guitar solo
on loc.  on a really good day, i can kinda play it some where in the
vicinity of the tempo they play it on the recordings (i can't even imagine
the tempo they do it live.)
   oh and someone was talking about guitar picks.  it's funny, cause i
just discovered those dunlops with the raised type a couple of weeks ago.
they're great.  i sort of have this embarrassing problem of losing my grip
on my pick and dropping it inside my guitar from time to time so those
help.
   ok, sorry to babble on about nigc but actually it is ig related
because they're the reason i learned to play guitar and it's about the
greatest thing i've ever done.  so thank you to them, and a big time
thanks to adam schneider who posts all those ig tabs.  (though i actually
do have a copy of the self-titled song book now)  and congratulations

sporting a new leather look...although, it could be vinyl considering

the strangest thing happened. i sent this message to you last week and i got
your address out of my e-mail address book, and when i punched it in, it just
showed up as "betsy"- i thought , oh well, i guess the computer knows what
its doing. then i get a message back from some betsy in virginia telling me

so last night i dreamed that the indigo's were going to play at a church on
capitol hill. i called to inquire about tickets and a nice church lady told
me i was the first one! so i was going to buy seats front and center for
therese and i, jude and her girlfriend (penelope) and also i was thinking of
getting some for you and cindy. then i woke up. damn.

all i remember is that ig and sting and i were
hanging out, playing tunes and talking a long walk
througha forest.. wish i could memmer more

maybe this dream is just a flashback to tueday's post??
maybe.. but i will say iw as in heaven with my two fave bands

hi everyone! :)

although this is only a *tiny* bit ig-related (as they are in the
public eye) i thought it would --maybe-- contribute to an interesting
sub-thread...

i wrote a letter to the actor corey haim when i was nine.  it was in no
way coherent or dignified.  just me declaring my undying love for
him.  <grin>  needless to say, i never heard a thing in reply.  ;)
he is still one of my most favourite actors, even though his career
has been subjected to -- uh, er...low-rate flicks.  oh well.  long
live "license to drive"!  woo-hoo corey!  :) :) :)

i wrote chad allen [of "my two dads" fame] when i was 10 or so.  i
didn't have much to say except how much i loved the show, loved him
<g>, etc.  about six months later, i received a typed letter in the
mail, stating what chad was up to, etc.  inclosed was a brochure to
order his new home video (which i never did), and a black and white
photo of him and his twin sister charity.  it was autographed with a
saying like "follow your heart and your dreams will never be out of
reach" --> or something to that effect.  :)  very cool, even though i
think the autograph is stamped.  i still have the photo.

even though i know the above two aren't musicians, i thought i would
share my 15 minutes (more like seconds) of fame. feel free to tell
more stories!

hi.  well, thanks to everyone for your encouraging messages for me and my
new guitar.  i'm starting to get callouses which is really exciting, and
learning more ig songs than ever.   it's the best!

okay, my question is...how many people started playing because or partly
because of ig??  i know i did, at least partly.  i also need to know how
to play guitar for my future job (youth pastor), but ig was, um, sorry,
but instrumental in me learning how to play.  anybody else?  and what
were the first ig songs that y'all learned?

ok, so you'll have to take my word for it...i don't have a scanner...

there were 2 or 3 of us taking pics at the party, and i rushed to get mine
developed today.  i have to say, there are some good ones, some blackmail
ones, and some really excellent ones....especially...and i'm so happy about
this....the final group pic came out really good!   everyone is smiling and
nobody blinked (always one in a group but not this time!) - not even sadie,
our party mascot (joan and margo's puppy!  ;o)  hehe

i hadn't even heard of ig when i started playing guitar. but since i've
been listening to them nonstop, they have now become my source of
inspiration. i hardly ever play anything that isn't indigo!

land of canaan. it only had three chords. from there i went to least
complicated (which was very complicated!), galileo, hand me downs, walk
away, strange fire......

now i can play somewhere around 36 songs by them. i like being able to
choose what i'm going to play from day to day. i'm not limited at all!

hey i was just wondering-- is "dog in a manger" one of those
colloquialisms that everyone except me has heard before? i thought it was
one of those made-up phrases that amy just sort of threw into a song b/c
it sounded cool, but then i was reading _wuthering_heights_ today and
there's this part in which isabella says "you are a dog in a manger,
cathy, and desire noone to be loved but yourself." i was going "wow. that
phrase actually has meaning. hmm." this is just one of those little "had
to share" things. so for those of you who are more familiar with that
phrase, give me some examples of its usual context. that'd be nice.

"milk of human kindness" is a pretty common shakespearean reference, actually.
it is in standard usage, and i've heard it used a lot. not to put down lwcty,
of course, but imowo, the sly greek-mythology refs in ghost are much more
skillfully done.

summer i work at a summer camp and we have this get-to-know-you game that
we play with the kids where each tells you if they were a fruit or a
vegetable what would they be & why? and then you have them do the same for
the person sitting next to them.  so one of my campers bequethed upon me
the title of parsnip because they are an acquired taste (she was bitter b/c
i wouldn't let her go to be without brushing her teeth) and they are sort
of an odd colour (implying that i'm sort of odd, which is porbably quite
accurate)  so that's the secret behind the vegetable with me.  so...
my question to everyone is...if you were a fruit or vegetable, what would
you be? and if a &/or e were a fruit/vegetable what would they be?

this is not completely accurate.  the mount holyoke news did not report
any information about phone ordering tickets for the mhc show.  but they
did not say that you couldn't do it.  i don't know if they will be on
sale over the phone or not.

according to some tests i read *years* ago, tdk was a better tape for metal
tapes and i think it marginally beat out maxell on type 2 tapes as well. i
know i had a few tapes that were maxells that screwed up too. course that
could have been human error.

                  the two outside corners (by the opening) of the cover
                  show a small amount of wear but are o.k.. there is a
                  good sized crease along the bottom left corner. there
                  are also a couple divets in the top right. with the
                  exception of the one large crease, there are a few
                  small creases here and there. the original sleeve is
                  missing. the vinyl is in fine shape. this is a very
                  good starter strangefire. the cover isn't all that
                  great but the vinyl is in very nice shape with only
                  a few small scratches that would not effect play.
                  recommended to start a collection!

                  since this would make a perfect start to a collection,

by the way, folks...if you have never tried black beans and rice, try
it...i saw a bag of black beans at the store and thought "hey! maybe
i'll try some...can't hurt me" well, they take forever to cook...you
have to soak them overnight in water before you cook them...but the end
result is fabulous...here's my recipe:
when soaking the beans, add four clove stubs (or if you don't like
cloves omit that part) to the water and let sit overnight....the next
day when you bring your water to a slow-rolling boil, add some
season-all, steak seasoning and/or red pepper sauce to taste (your
choice..i've tried all three and all are fabulous). serve on a plate of
white or brown rice and chow down, pushing the clove stubs to the side
of your plate, should you happen to get one in the mix. it makes a great
meal, even for the distinguishing bean-eater (like my mother who used to
hate black beans, for the life of me i don't know why).
notice: after the beans are cooked thoroughly, you need to drain the
water, but wear an apron or something dark because the coloring is
disastrous...i washed my beans before i cooked them and the color still
bled into the water

i think the term is derived from one of aesop's fables. aesop was a
slave in ancient athens (i think) who told a number of moral fables (i
can't think of any others off hand), and this was one of them. basically
a dog in a manger is someone who takes up something he doesn't need, when
others who need it can't have it.

i'm sitting at my desk plugging away at work (i am, really). anyway, h&n
comes on my tape player and it reminded me of a funny story.

i was kid-sitting yesterday, and i had a 10 year old girl and her 5 year
old brother in my car (niece and nephew by proxy).  we're driving along,
and i have ig on the deck (what a shock!).  i have it low, 'cuz i'm
curtious when others are in my car...i don't blow them away like when i'm
by myself.  anyway, we're chatting and then there was this moment of
silence...h&n comes on.  the 5 year old boy perks up and says "hey,
christina (his sister in the back)!  remember this song?  we know this
one!"  she says "yea!"  and starts to sing it. (i'm thinking "this is soooo
cute!  two little newbies!")  he waits until just the right moment and
starts singing too:  "....even my sweat smells clean...hahahahaha!"

hey, he's a 5 year old boy, whaddya expect he would pick up on? well, it
made me laugh.

back to work.....ugh....

a political prisoner held for unjust reasons. for native americans and for many

perfect fruit  (my friend and i had a discussion about this last night,
who knew the list would talk about it this morning)  here are the reasons
why they are the perfect fruit:

1.  they smell yummy on your hands after you peel them
2.  they come in little sections so you can share with your friends or
offer them to kindly strangers whom you might want to talk to (a good way
to meet cute girls (or boys, whichever you like)
3.  no matter how old they get, they don't rot and smell, they just
shrivel up and turn into a rattle
4. you can stick cloves in them and use them in your closet to make your
cloths smell nice
5.  the peels don't rot either, they just turn into hard pieces that you
can throw at your younger siblings when mad (hahahah)
6.  orange and purple look so pretty together
7.  they taste yummy!!!

gave birth at 1:35 am pacific time on feb 10 to a baby girl,

the 1997 nea extravaganza is basically three nights (feb. 20-22) of music,
featuring over 250 bands, with bands performing at 15 to 20 different venues
(simultaneously) each night.  there are just too  many artists to name, and
many i have never even heard of, though some of you all probably have.  anyway,
besides the daemon bands, some notables include edwin mccain, drivin' and cryin',
guy clark, stone deep, the v-roys, gretchen peters, marshall chapman (very cool:),
lucinda williams, clive gregson, and many other acoustic, modern rock, roots
rock, country, bluegrass, etc. etc. artists.  i would be happy to snail mail
anyone who is interested a show schedule.

anyway, about the daemon showcase...  admission to the club is first come,
first serve.  i don't know how much tickets will be (neither does the club),
but i doubt they will be very much.  someone from the nea told me today
that you can buy a wristband at tower records for the entire 3-day
event for $25.00.  i doubt cover will be more than $10.00, if that much.
anyway, i will definitely be there, as i have never heard any of the artists
on the current daemon roster (except for reversing hour on the honor cd), so
i'm really fired up about this!  if anyone would like further information
about the extravaganza or directions to the club where the daemon showcase
will be held, e-mail me.  if it looks like several people will be coming into
town for the showcase, i may try to have a pre/post showcase list party.  yes,
another excuse to get together with fellow music lovers and party:)
again, the showcase starts at 8:00 pm cst.  cheers!!!

one thing is for sure - amy and emily could be related to all kinds of fruits and veggies because they all make you feel good and are good for you. one is nourishment for the body, the other two are nourishment for the soul.         all the recent talk about list gatherings has prompted me to repost the
ny/nj/pa party info.  for those of you who don't live in the area...sorry
to waste bandwidth!!  for those who live in the area...here's the beta:

on march 15th i'm opening my house up to any ig fan who wants to get
together from 4pm to whenever...i live on the new jersey shore near the
long branch/asbury park area and will be providing directions to all that

there's lots more, but i'd end up listing every song on it, so i'll stop here. 1200c was the first ig album i bought (last october - i think it was the night before halloween). one of my friends was talking about them one day and how they had changed his life. so i went to the store and randomly picked out 1200c (ok, it was on sale. oh the shame of it all ;) it's tough to be a starving musician!). needless to say, i was hooked instantly. for some reason, i found myself listening mostly to sides 1-2, and still don't pick up 3-4 that frequently. i'm not sure why, anyone else find this?

which state am i from?  one vote only, i've been told....and so i've been
pondering and finally have come to a decision.  true, i've been living in
philadelphia for nearly four college years, with a semester in the
homeland (jerusalem, not atlanta), but i was born in new haven,
connecticut (yes, all you obsessive folks, it is quite possible that i
was born in the same hospital room as emily saliers, albeit a few years
later.  she should feel honored. ;)  and my permanent residence since i
left the hospital has always been waterbury, ct.

i hereby declare myself a proud connecticut list member. go new
england! go constitution state! go uconn huskies!!

however.  even the most loyal new englander must leave the east coast
eventually.......this one is soon going to transfer her loyalties to the
pacific northwest and move to seattle, home of the washington huskies,
seattle reign, and the incredible listees who showed her an amazing time
this past weekend.  (thanks y'all.) i highly encourage all of you to
follow my lead.  i've gotten to know a number of cities in my twenty-one
years: waterbury, philadelphia, new york, washington dc, london, nicosia,
jerusalem, beer sheva, tel aviv, and haifa.  some i've spent more time in
than others, but each has taught me something about cities and me.  new
englanders, don't worry....eventually the internal tug will bring me
back to greater boston, but for now the pull is a westward one and
seattle combines everything i ever wanted in a city (except new england
fall) in an amazing way.  any of you listees feeling the nomadic urge?  i
really encourage you to take a jaunt out to seattle and check the place
out for yourself.  if nothing else, it'll teach you something.

if you're looking for me out there, or just need a new hangout....check
out the elliot bay book company (staff members *handwrite* reviews of
their recommended books, plus there's readings galore) or the speakeasy
cafe (2304 2nd avenue; http://www.speakeasy.org) which is a bitchin

two you haven't experienced.  sometimes you overlook what's in your own
backyard, ya know...and your backyard is wicked cool.

yay!!! bout time someone put us brits on the map as it were!!! hmmm..
altho judging from jen's survey it does seem  as if there are only a
handful of us!!! well.. i'm just letting you  know that i'm stuck here in

imagination here), i think i would make amy a rum and coke. simple,
delicious, and twisted. for emily i would maybe make her a kahlua
sombrero. i bet she'd like the chocolate taste, and she could drink many

okay, so reading the current threads has prompted me to post.  we are all
so hard up to have something, anything to write about.  while some have
been mighty entertaining and spark some curiousity...well....all i can say
is that in the initial ig info. we all got when we signed on, it said that
there are some folks who know a&e...so, if you are indeed out there, let
them know we need a new album...and soon!  oyasuminasai (good night) to you
all.

sara and maren...who had another holiday (cause there are so many here) and
went to see "evita" which made us frightened because madonna, no matter how
sexy, made us tear up...yikes.

hey folks :) first off..thanks to everyone who participated in the
auction (though there are still a couple hours left). it was pretty fun,
but way to much work for my lazy self..oh well.. now i can put auctioneer
on my resume' or something. :) i definately think there were some good
deals scored. anyway...back to the old fashioned way.

i am proud to offer some rare nomads indians and saints album cover
posters. these were tough to come by. they are full color and on non waxed
paper. by non waxed i mean they don't have that smooth feel that store
bought posters do.. they have a sort of thick newspaper feel to them which
gives them a different and better look than regular postsers. they were
promo only as far as i know. the size is 23" x 23". i think they make for
great decorations because they are artistically pleasing as well as ig
related. i have ten available at $30

i also found some more rites of passage tourbooks. these were the official
tour programs sold at the concerts. the girls were very candid when
producing these books as they include child hood and early career
pictures. they are also on a nice rough paper (non waxy). the girls have
always been good with texturing their products i think. the book includes
live shots and 'friends of indigo' shots as well as a special feature on
sara lee. i sell them for $22 on my web site, but because i bought a
bunch, i got a good deal and am happy to say i can pass them along for $12
now to listees.

write hamilton@bayflash.stpt.usf.edu to reserve either item. postage is
3.00 for the poster and 2.00 for the tourbooks. i've recently updated my
site with a few new items as well. hope all is well and wish me luck as i
beg professors for time off to hit all the shows coming up!

well... maybe the dog was really comfortable, you know? have you ever
tried sleeping in a hay-free manger? you get a really sore back and maybe
he had to get up early for work, and he'd had too much coffee and couldn't
get to sleep and then, then the fnarkin ox decides to go in for a midnight
snack under his left arm pit... maybe it was the third night in a row he
was awakened by the sound of soggy munching and... he just lost
it...sigh...oh well.

i think emily would definitely be chewbacca (soft and furry on the
outside, but can be aggressive sometimes, when he/she needs to be),
but i'm not sure who amy would be - han possibly, but i'm not
sure....

umm, i answerd this before, but it got screwed up, so i'll do it again. =)
since i'm just a tad below drinking age, i'd say that i'd definately buy
them a ***soda**** (<--proper title).  how 'bout some of those flavored cokes
at the old style diners?  a cherry flavored for amy and vanilla flavored for
emily.  or maybe root beer floats all around!

i am really surprised by the tour dates.  igs have always come to austin to
the best of my knowledge.  there is also ut there and a&m a little over an
hour away...those are the two largest universities in texas opposed to a
small private school.  i guess i am disappointed since that is a thursday
night and ft. worth is four hours away and i have a class.  i also would
love more info about other texas dates if any come up.  i can't imagine
them only stopping in texas for one night, but it just might happen.  sorry
to bitch, but i just want to understand...

hello folks--i just thought i would throw out some general information
about tours and this list. i have seen several recent posts regarding tour
dates and people like totally freaking out not being sure if these are
confirmed and wanting to know if there are more. i post to try and
eliminate some concerns and for my usual posting reason--to eliminate
unnecessary posts :).

please chill out!  i can assure you that if anyone in the world will know
where and when the girls are playing it will be the people on this list.
you will hear endless rumors and potential dates as they come in.  but you
will definitely know where and when they will be close by.  and i guarantee
that the dates and venues will be posted over and over and over.  so
requests like are they coming to my town in kalispell, montana aren't
necessary.  you will know where they will be.  that is the purpose of this
list.  i understand the excitement and the desire to get tickets right
away.  beleive me i am just as excited.  but there are enough "insiders"
here that will get the info out.  you will know all--i promise.  if the
girls come to your town and it wasn't posted here like 7 times first, you
can have my entire boot collection and my ig road sign :) and even my
signed so cd..

and to spill some more tour gossip--i heard from a decent source (not
confirmed at all) that the girls and tracy chapman will be at the ravinia
music fest here in north suburban chicago this summer. woooooooo to that.

happy concert going--this is my favorite time of year.

yes, it is a girl. there are statments posted around the web on
various publications' sites (i deleted a post that listed them
from another list, sory) and melissa's publicist made the statement
abotu the birth. i really doubt the publicist would get it wrong.

this shouldnt be news to anyone who follows enertainment news since
melissa and julie were on the cover of newsweek and ther have
been numerous articles about the impending birth. melissa has
talked about iin a number of interviews. i am thrilled for them
and i think the fallout/repercussions will be beneficial
for everyone in th elong term..melissa and julie get to start
their family, and the rest of the world finally has to reckon with
the reality of gay families on a "public" level.

my local news station in toronto reported first that they had a girl and
then on the 10pm edition, they said the baby was a boy. i don't know why
but i need confirmation on this. is bailey jean a girl for sure???
they seemed rather uncomfortable reporting the news and i'm not surprised
that they would get the facts totally wrong. the station is called citytv
and they pride themselves on being this very liberal, funky,
ground-breaking broadcasting organization but no amount of foundation
could hide the blush on gord martineau's face (news anchor) when he was
confronted with the news by the entertainment reporter.

i do think it is rather interesting that the media is acknowledging
the birth of a baby to two women. anyone have any thoughts on this? is it
because of melissa's mainstream acceptance or are there other political
factors involved? hmmmm...

saw the posting for music with a point the other day and it got me thinking
that i would like to make a mix tape for my girlfriend for valentine's
day...ugh, not much time. kind of fun.

...but in looking for music, it is so much easier to find songs for not so
happy times rather than "i'm really glad that you are in my life and we are
in love songs". does this make sense?

anyway if anyone has ideas ig and others for a tape, please e-mail me
privately as soon as you can. thanks-posting to the list makes me nervous,

ok .. if you were on my final list to be in the loop tape, you will be
receiving one email detailing what loop you are in and what's going on. in
fact, those are all sent out. overseas people should have received two
emails from me, and loop leaders should have received three emails from me.

normal people just get this from me. *grin* you guys must hate me by now.

if you don't get these emails, then let me know and we'll see what the
problem is.

i do have a problems with dianne connell's email address in new york, if
anyone knows her, please please tell her to go clear out her mailbox,
because mail is bouncing like tennis balls.

(*shew* *wipes brow and can't beleive it's all done being organised and is

this was much more work than i anticipated, especially with having to deal
with doctors, chiropractors, lawyers, and insurance companies, (all scum of

i figured that this was as good as any time to post for the first time
because well, the thought of the indigos coming to ravinia (near
chicago) is giving me goosebumps!! my first time i saw them i drove
out to newport (1996). wow, seeing them 25 minutes from my house!

just a little question, for an art project of mine i'm doing an indigo
girls t'shirt, the picture is going to be pretty surreal and i'm not
sure whether to have them in a swamp or a forest?

hey guys,

        i just called hoftsra and found out that the tix will be going on sale
next week through ticketmaster as well as the college.  they did not
give me an exact date but they said next week.  they also told me that
it's general admission, probably standing room only, and that it is a
very big place.  so tix won't be a problem.

        i tried getting info on the penn state show but was not very
successful.  if anybody finds anything out about the ps show please
inform me.  ig madness has taken over me.............

i would have to say that's because love doesn't equate happiness.

okay, i grew up in northeastern kentucky (ashland, to be precise) and lived
there for the first 26 years of my 31 year old life, and we never called it
rc up there...we always called it "pop."  then, i moved to nashville and at first,
whenever i would speak of going to the store to buy some pop, people would look
at me like i was from another planet or something.  when i would explain,
they would say, "oh, you're going to buy some coke!"  arrrgghhhh!

big ig fan, and she made me take it out. but i kept putting it back in to
show friendly members of the church like this one old guy named howard who
is as fun as any college kid, and he told me the same thing about the dog
in the manger, that it was an old saying, but he said something like,
you're like a dog in a manger and something about a bone....

i know that didn't make much sense but...oh well it was funny at the time.

okay at this point i feel obligated to say i was raised united methodist
and feel that it is part of my culture, but not my religion...religiously
i'm more pagan than anything but i don't really practice anything... for
those of you who are still reading, yay or i'm sorry whichever applies.

just read about plans to see ani on amy's birthday and thought that folks

uniondale is in nassau county, long island,  less than an hour east of
manhattan.  if anyone is driving there the university is actually in
hempstead (at least that's the mailing address)- the highway signs say
hempstead if i remember correctly.  wouldn't want anyone to get lost before a

great to see some tour dates at last - trouble is they're just a few too
many miles away for me...don't s'pose anyone with inside info knows roughly
when we can expect the euro leg of the tour, and if we can expect several uk
stops or just a couple of nights in london? (brighton has such a fab concert
venue - i'd so love to see the girls play here.) and if anyone thinks it's
going to be end of june/early july then i need to know now 'cos that's when
i'm planning my hols to ny and atlanta...now that would be ironic...

well, it is embarrassing for me as a mount holyoke student to have to
tell you that this is the ticket policy, but i've heard it from several
different people so i feel okay about passing it on to you now:

you can only buy tickets at mount holyoke college on saturday march 1 at
2:00pm in chapin auditorium (where the show will be).  i think they are
$24 for non-mount holyoke students.  the really bad part:  there is a one
ticket per person limit for all buyers.  i've never heard of anything
quite like this before.. i think it sucks.

i will post directions to mount holyoke in the very near future since
people are probably going to want them. if you are planning on coming
and you don't know how to get to either route 90 (mass pike0 or route 91,
email me privately and i will try to help.

also, is there anyone who is coming from somewhere close to another ig
show who might be willing to barter floor space for a fellow ig fan?

release of the ep and more has come in...those who have
pre-ordered should watch their mailboxes..those copies have
already been mailed out. perry expresses thanks to all of
you who did pre-order.

for the rest, if you wanted to wait until the cd's were in hand,
the time is now. a brief overview: this is a fan-created
release (which ig do know about) which has all 6 tracks from the
ep, some tracks from amy ray's color me grey, and some other
live tracks. quality is excellent (better than expected!)

everywhere in the us.  i was raised on pinto and black beans.  i
particularly suggest them with cornbread or corn pancakes, or in tortillas
with cheese, lettuce, tomatos, onions, etc.  these are called blackbean and
corn cakes or black bean tacos.  really simple recipes and a great way to
get rid of the left overs.  i also do not put the rice and black beans
together in the same pot, but instead just serve them together.  they keep
better this way and the rice is a prettier color(not grey).  if ya'll want
some recipes of this nature i will gladly mail you some.  just reply
privately.  go black beans!

"when my whole life is on the tip of my tongue" -ig

for anyone making the drive, this is how to get to mount holyoke college
in south hadley (not holyoke), mass.:

get yourself to route 91.  if you are coming from the south, this will
probably involve taking route 95 north which runs into rt 91.  from the
west, take rt 90 east--it eventually hits 91.  from the east (boston
area), take the mass pike (90) west until you get to rt 91.

go north on rt 91. take exit 16 off of rt 91. this is the first exit
after a very large called the "ingleside mall at holyoke" which will be
on your right if you are coming from the south. if you are coming from
the north, it is two exist past northampton, immediately after exit 17
which will take you to easthampton.

you want to go east off of this exit, towards holyoke. i don't remember
the name of the road, but the exit ramp spits you out right onto it.
you'll turn right if you're coming from the south, left if you're coming
from the north.

you are going to follow this road through the town of holyoke.  it will
eventually become a one way (going your way).  there are stop lights
every few blocks on this road.  take it until you hit a pseudo-rotary.

at the pseudo-rotary (which has the idea of a rotary, but you can't see
the whole thing so you might not recognize it as such.  it is, however,
the only place where "straight ahead" won't be plainly obvious.), follow
the signs to route 202.  if you go the right way here, you will
immediately go over a bridge.  if you don't, you will, in effect, make a
u-turn and you'll need to circle back around and try again.

after you cross the bridge, continue to follow the signs to route 202
north and mount holyoke college. you will take the second left off of
the rotary immediately after the bridge, this will keep you on route
202.

once you take the second left off of the second rotary, take the first
exit.  this will be route 116 north.  (it is part b of the exit.)
continue on route 116 north past the south hadley high school (on your
right), the 7-11 (on your left), and then the super mood fart, i mean
food mart (also on your right).  you will pass a subway on your left, and
a furniture store on your right.  then you will go up a little hill.

at the top of the hill, you will be able to see a flashing yellow light
which marks the intersection of morgan street and route 116.  there is
also a dark green sign that says "mount holyoke college" there.  keep
going straight, on rt 116.  you will pass a large brick building with
shutters, which is a dorm (abbey hall, where i was an ra for two years,
icyc).  then there will be another building with large doors and some
aqueducts.  this is mary woolley hall, where the concert is (and where
tickets are being sold).  immediately after mary woolley, there is another
little access road.  turn right onto it.

mary woolley will be on your right now.  chapin auditorium is inside, and
you'll go up a half flight of stairs to get in--there are two entrances,
one on the right and one on the left.  they'll probably only have the one
on the left open.  if you try the exit where you have to go down a half
flight of stairs you won't have any luck--there's actually no access to
chapin from here.  point of reference:  if you get lost, ask for chapin
not mary woolley, because mhc students call the whole building chapin.
people might not know what you're talking about otherwise!

anyhow, to park, pass mary woolley (which is, again on your right as soon
as you turn off of 116).  take this little access road until it dead ends
in front of a cool gothic building (pratt hall, the music building).  you
will see a parking lot immediately in front of you, off to the right a
bit.  that is where you will park.  turn right and the dead end, and then
turn left when that road dead ends.  the entrance to the lot will be
immediately on your left.  the road that you turn off of when turning
into the lot is morgan street, the road you passed before you reached
mary woolley.  to leave, just turn right out of the lot, go straight
until that road dead ends into route 116, and then go left.  just retrace
your path to get back up to chapin.

on weeknights and weekends, you can park in faculty/staff lots.  you can
never park in students lots without the appropriate permit.  otherwise,
you can park invisitor's parking, but there's not much of it.  and
tickets are $25.  :o

lastly, if you are coming from the north, you might want to get off route
91 in northampton, at route 9.  take route 9 east, and then go south on
rt 47.  take 47 all the way into south hadley, and at the light in south
hadley (there's only one), go right.  you'll be going south on route
116.  go past the main gates (they're big gates), and at the next access
road (which is through one more light after the main gates), turn left.
mary woolley will be the building on your right.  this will probably save
you half an hour.

okay, i hope this has been helpful.  feel free to email me if you have

hello to all of you out there,
i had a wonderfully indigo day today  why? you ask.  lots o' reasons
first of all, i played in a hockey tourney and didn't have to go to school.
second, when i stopped off at the store to buy the necessary gatorade for
my tournament, and i thought i recognized the muzaak.  it was a version of
least complicated played on flute.  it was so neat, they had one flute on
emily's part and one on amy's.  i was almost late for my game because i
couldn't leave the store until it was over-naturally.  then in between games
i stopped off at a bookstore where they played galileo.  i was so excited
that i felt the need to run thru the store screaming "this is by the indigo
girls, that awesome band i keep telling you guys about" to my teamates who
pretended not to know me.
as if all this wasn't exciting enough, when i got home.  the mapped boot
that sundara made for me was in my mailbox.  it is so great.  thank you
so much sundara, you're my new best friend.  if there's ever anything you
need, a place to crash in toronto, $$, a letter of recommendation, an internal
organ, anything.  all you have to do is ask.  no, you don't even have to
ask, i will read your mind.  i owe you so huge.  thank you
ahem.  yeah so this has been my indigo day.  sorry for the jabbering, all of

regarding when was the last time the indigo girls played close to
champaign, il..i produced them in bloomington, il in spring, 1995. sara
lee last played bloomington in fall, 1996 when ani did a show here during
her fall '96 tour.
alas..sara lee will not be with ani when she plays the virginia theatre on
april 10 (that's the bad news, otherwise, it will be a kick-ass concert
with tickets now available from the theater at only running $17).
the good news..sara lee rejoins the indigo girls for the map tour!

a couple of us were discussing the ig/star wars thing the other day,

hey y'all, i made a few phonecalls, ok, i called the same place a couple
of times =) here's the info that i got about the hofstra show.  tickets go
on sale this upcoming monday through ticketmaster or you can buy it
directly from the guys at hofstra (if you're interested, it's room 212 in
the student center.  i'm not sure exactly where that is, but the nice guy
on the phone said that if you ask anyone on campus, they'll be glad to
show you the way.)  tickets are $25 for non-hofstra people.  and the show
starts at either 9 pm and the doors open at 8, or the show starts at 8 and
the doors open at 7.  he wasn't 100% sure.  but, y'all get the idea =) oh,
and i think this was mentioned before, it's gen admission, and the venue
holds about 4,000 easy.  i guess if you want any other info, or if you all
want to speak to them yourselves (the guys coordinating the concert, not
ig =), the number is (516) 463-6967.
i'm so exciiiited.....

they have the dates that have already been printed on this list. i also
agree with
gflame@nwu who said ...no reason to post your pleas asking if they are gonna
play in your home town, etc. i am confident that we will get information as
soon as it is known.
i live in northern ca.....i'm not so sure they will head this way during the
campus part of their tour...but i know all i gonna do is sit back and
wait...and sooner (rather than later)

okay, this may sound like a stupid question, but i gotta know. i was looking
through the pink pages earlier this week, and i came across a listing for a
rainy day records here in the seattle area. is this like the same thing?
somebody tell me!

going to turn into the betty crocker mailing list, i'm afraid :o

recipe for chile rellenos (ala the chickenman)

ingreds:
1 or 2 large poblano peppers 5-6" long
1 lb. chihuahua cheese (grated coarsely)
1 lb. drained browned hamburger meat <optional, personally i just use all
cheese>
1-1/2 cups of cooking oil
flour
spices <optional>
4 eggs & a little milk
toothpicks
medium-large frying pan

preparation:
cut around stem at top of peppers and remove stem and seeds; clean and wash
out pepper par boil peppers in shallow pan w/ about 2 cups water (this is
*important* else the peppers will be somewhat tough and quite hot!!!)
let peppers drain and dry
beat eggs & milk for a batter in a bowl
put flour in other bowl (you can add a few spices if you like - garlic
powder, cilantro, pepper, salt, whatever)
put oil in frypan and heat to medium-high (the peppers should sizzle pretty
good when you drop them in :) btw i use tongs
stuff peppers with shredded cheese and beef (if desired)
use toothpicks if necessary to secure pepper where it may have ripped or tore
dip peppers in egg batter and then into flour and spices

cooking:

when oil is hot, carefully place peppers in frying pan; cover with a screen
cover if available
fry approx. 5 minutes on each side (the peppers should have a slightly
scorched look and they should be firm, almost crispy :)
remove peppers from pan and drain away excess oil
remove toothpicks
you can then add more grated cheese and tomatoe sauce or just eat 'em plain
(note: if you add more cheese and tomatoe sauce you may have to put them in
the broiler for a few minutes to melt everything and keep 'em warm

enjoy!

also several people asked about the black bean soup with cilantro recipe so
i'll try to find that one. i also have a recipe for quick-and-easy crispy
beef tacos if anyone's interested, just email me privately...

awhile ago, someone asked about the video "the best of austin city
limits". i just came across it in a pbs catalog. contact me if you still
need the info. this show is where i first heard and saw amy and emily
perform. i believe it was a show about women songwriters. i only heard
about 2 songs and i fell in love with their music. i remember thinking
i'd better write their name down or i'll never remember it. if anyone
knows how i could get a copy of this show i would appreciate it. i have
sentimental feelings about it, i guess.
also, ig are not on "the best of" tape. maybe on volume ii someday.

hello everyone

just got in from chaperoning a school dance and felt generous.  i have
access to a post office box in the states, so i've been trading a lot in the
few months i've been on the list.  some canadians aren't so lucky...  and i
have no more blanks in my stash for trades or money to continue past the 70
boot mark...  so...

if any newbies from the toronto area want to mail me blanks in a sase i'll
dub a couple of my boots for yah. ok, i could extend the geographical range
maybe if i don't get too overwhelmed... =)

btw, we say "pop" here. (maybe that's why buffalonians say it too, being

        well, i was having doubts about sending this petition to the list,
but after seeing the austin city limits post i realized that it really was
igc. ig, as well as nancy griffith, joan baez, etc have performed on austin
city limits in the past which is aired on pbs(public broadcasting system).
they also air many other educational programs commercial free. that info is
for non-us residents.  for us residents, you already know how great
programs such as mr rogers (my hero) are so i need not ramble on.  also, i
think someone mentioned some igc on npr (national public radio) a while
back.  so, like the loop, i'm not exactly sure how this petition thing
really works, but here's hopin that some of you arts-lovin fools will send
this on.  of course, you could call newt personally, but i don't happen to

okay, this is a veeeeeerrry touch subject and i don't mean to set off any flames, but i need some info . . .

a friend of mine on campus was raped (sexually assaulted, whatever you want to call it) by her (female) roomate last year. my friend left after our administration refused to do anything about it. their attitudes were, "can that happen if both parties are female?" \

well, obviously it did happen to my friend and i'd like some info, relevant experiences, etc. that everyone may have to offer. if you do have experience with this topic, it's likely to be a sensitive spot, but rest assured that i'm not writing a paper or anything. i just want to be able to comfort my friend and assure her that she's not alone.

i just got my copy of jesus christ superstar in the mail from daemon
records yesterday. all i can say is:  wow!   all day long, it's got me

hi, i reckon this is a fairly accurate transcription of history of
us. unfortuneately, i've lent my copy of the tape to someone at the
moment, so i can't be sure that the picking patterns in the solo
and coda are exactly right, in fact they're probably wrong, but
they're pretty close anyway. the picking pattern for the verses is
slightly different each time round but i've only shown what happens
the first time - perfectionists should refer to the tape and work the
rest out themselves.
if anybody knows something about this that i'm not aware of like
funny tunings, feel free to correct it.

hey--i realize i may get flamed for sending this (long) forward, but i
think it has a lot of merit. as we all know, a _large_ number of the
people on this list are female, and this particular post has to do with
female issues and the female body. i have never heard this particular
danger talked about before, so if anyone has information (contradictory
or supporting) i would really love to hear it.

hi ya'll
i was just bored and i was in that posting mood.. so today my "wonderful" day
at school included three ig moments. first as i was returning from lunch
closer to fine came on the radio. then i go into my 5th period class, which
is yearbook and newspaper,  i looked at the screensavers, which i am always
changing, had all indigo girls qoutes on them.  my teacher did it, and it
was real cool.  lastly my pre cal teacher kept talking about raising things
to the power of two.... oh yeah and my friends mom who is a professor at au
is looking into gettting me tix...i am ready !!!  sorry to waste bandwidth
but ya know how it is when ig invades your day and you feel the need to tell
a bunch of people who will remotely care....

i know this seems really sucky but i think it's kind of cool that they are
doing this because it gives students a chance to hear ig in a small
casual venue without all of the hubub that surrounds a national act.
i kind of see it as ig's "gift" to the students.
i remember when we had a couple of national acts at evergreen
98 % of the crowd was from out of town and it was kind of a dissapointing
expereince. it just lost that 'intimate' feeling that usually happens at
college
shows.
and i'm sure on some level ig longs for a taste of the old days.
they will see enough crazyness when they start the 'full scale tour'
and i have a feeling they will be a very big draw ;)

with all due respect to the person who originally posted this, i don't
believe it.  i honestly don't think that ig will play shows that are
closed.  in part, my reason is that i am _sure_ that mount holyoke would
have made their ig concert closed if possible--all of our 1800 students
want to go, but our largest auditorium can only hold 1600.  so that's why
we have the screwy one ticket policy--so lots of mhc students can go.  i
think, in fact, that mhc tried to have a closed concert and ig said no.
perhaps the person at lasalle is (1) uninformed, (2) an asshole, or (3)
trying to deter people from coming (possibly redundant with (2)).

hi y'all--i am usually not one to post personal stories.  in fact, i am
usually bitching about them while in cranky moods :).  but this morning's
events (yes 1 pm is morning for me) were too classic to keep to myself.  i
woke up and checked email and heard music in the distance.  it was coming
from my window.  i live in a five story apt building and when the windows
are open you can hear anything that is going on in the apts across the
alley--i mean anything--last night i heard way too much from apt 554!  so
three hits is like blaring out of someone's apt.  excited to have another
ig fan in the building i break out rop and cue it up to the exact point of
the music in the alley.  when exactly in sinc i blast it.  i wait a few
songs as the two apts are now both playing the exact same songs at the
exact same time.  i am humored at this point--in fact i am smiling quite
brightly.  haven't smiled that brightly since emily said fuck at newport.
galileo, ghost, joking, jonas and ezekiel....in the middle of "steady now
don't come out" the other apt apparently had shopping to do and turns off
the music.  i can hear them being puzzled by the fact that they can still
hear the song they just turned off.  in fact, the person screams holy shit
and now appears to be really freaked and literally drops a dish.
shattering echoes through the alley drowning out "activist with a very
short life" (who does that refer to anyway--i'll check the faq).  person
then yells "who is playing that" out her window.  i yell "me-nice to meet
you".  i invite her over and we start chatting ig.  she is a huge fan!
turns out she is single (so am i-surprise surprise).  hell it's valentine's
day and we decide to enjoy it together.  dinner ensues.  i think i'm in
love and i have ig to thank *heavenly sigh*.

i'll let y'all pick out the true parts of this story :)

madison area coming up...

on saturday, march 22nd, cheryl wheeler will be playing at the art house
cafe in madison @ 9:00.

on saturday, april 12 (either the same day or the same weekend of ani's
show in milwaukee), shawn colvin will be playing at the barrymore.

hey gang, and specific individuals like maren, jorge and sundara...
here are a few of my recipes ala black beans...enjoy.

black bean burritos
1 zucchini
2 carrots
1 green pepper

dice these all up and toss in large skillet with some olive oil.

add a couple of garlic cloves and saute 5-10 minutes
add 1 teaspoon oregano, 1 teaspoon cumin, 2 teaspoons chili powder
let it cook until tender (but not too tender!)

2 16 ounce cans black beans* (now, i usually have one regular can and the
other black beans also but refried black beans, following?)
add these, stir up a bit and to them add 1/2 - 2/3 cup of salsa - this
depends entirely on your personal taste for heat!!

preheat the oven at this point to 425

grate roughly 2 cups of your favorite cheese (cheddar, monterey etc)

lay out a package of 10 - 12 burrito flats (a.k.a. tortilla flats)
on the counter and dispense the bean mixture evenly onto them. it should
be about an inch from the side of the tortilla.
take the vedgie mixture and spoon a pile near the center in a long line,
again not too close to the edge. sprinkle cheese.
now, this is the tricky part. we need to roll and bake them next, so you
should have 2 9x12 baking pans handy, here's what you do:

start to roll the tortilla and contents but after the first revolution
"flip" in one side, then continue to roll completely up!! what?/????

it should look like um...an empty toilet roll tube but with one end
closed!!! then, you take these little rolled up goodies, place them in
your baking pans and bake them for 12-15 minutes...no longer.
they are really good with a dollop of plain yogurt on top. mmmmm, enjoy.
next recipe:

black bean soup
10 sun-dried tomatoes (not packed in oil)
1 cup boiling water
////////////////////
1 1/2 cups finely chopped onions
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1 teaspoon cumin
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/3 cup water
3 cups of undrained tomatoes canned (28 ounce can is good)
4 cups undrained cooked black beans (two 16 ounce cans)
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
additional water or tomato juice
////////////////////
yogurt or sour cream

got all that? good, lets begin, shall we?
in a small bowl, cover the sun=dried tomatoes with boiling water and set
aside.

in a soup pot, saute the onion, garlic, and cayenne in oil for about 5
minutes, stirring frequently, until the onions are translucent. add the
cumin, 1/3 cup of water and the juice from the tomatoes. break up the
tomatoes by squeezing them in the soup pot, or chop them coarsely right in
the can (hmmm, imagine how painful that might be, nope, better squeeze
them) and add them to the pot. cover and bring to a boil. lower heat,
simmer covered for 5 minutes. add the black beans and their liquid, and
continue to simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. drain and
chop the softened sun-dried tomatoes. add them to the soup and cook for
5-10 minutes longer, until onions are tender. stir in cilantro and remove
soup from heat. puree half of soup ( i usually go at it with the braun
hand blender) in a food processor or a blender then return to pot. if soup
is too thick, add some water or remaining tomato juice. then, reheat
gently and serve with a dollop of yogurt or sour cream. mmmmmmmm, enjoy

black bean quesadillas

1 1/2 cups of drained black beans
2 green onions, chopped
1 chopped tomato
salsa (you pick the temp.)
6 ten inch flour tortillas
any kind of cheese, shredded
one frying pan (preferably non-stick)

spread the beans onto the tortillas evenly, add onions, salsa, tomato and
cheese. place one at a time into frying pan at medium heat, cook for about
5 minutes, or until golden brown on under side or until the cheese melts,
whichever comes first!! then, fold in half, press down so the ingredients
meld together then remove from pan and cut into quarter slices (or thirds
if you're hungrier). again, don't forget to dollop with yogurt or sour
cream. mmmmmmmmm, delicious, and quick too.

apologize if anyone gets it twice.

ahhh, valentines day, a time when all those who are in love can...
go to hell.  gee, that sounded quite bitter.  i'm sorry. i'm just really
jealous of those in different time zones for whom it is now feb 15th.
i think we should make a day for people w/o significant others,
i don't know what it would be called (anyone have any suggestions) but, you
could celebrate it by sticking your freedom up the noses of everyone
who has a ball and chain.  like by going to a party and dancing or flirting
with a million different people because your single. yeah this is my plan.

to all of you who have been asking about the when/where/how of the indigo
girls appearance at penn state...

i called several places on campus today...unfortunately to no avail.
everyone i talked to from the advertising center for the big, giant arena to
the university concert committee seemed to have no idea what i was talking
about...or for that matter *who* i was talking about (shame on them!)
anyway, i will keep pestering them...trust me i'm as anxious as you all are
to find out what's happening.

instead of wasting mailbox space for those who have no intention of
traveling to psu, anyone who wants information can just email me privately
