i just got my two new cds in the mail- levees that break in my heart and
the ep in the more!!! they are wonderful quality, and the pictures are
just great.. amy and emily look so cute on the back of levees!! i feel
like such a fan tonight...

singing new lyrics and dancing in the stars tonight...

p.s. twins run in my family.. my first two girls will be closer to fine..

does anyone know ( from interviews or otherwise)  how emily goes about her
songwriting process? does she work music first, lyrics first, together?  i
would appreciate some insight into this.  thanks all

tonight i went to a performance by a dance group at penn, and one of the
songs they danced to was "ghost."  a friend explained to me a little bit
about dance and choreography during the intermission, but i'm not an
expert on either dance or that song, and i'm still trying to make sense of
it.  specifically the fact that many of the dancers were *smiling* as
though smiling was appropriate for the song.  i got the feeling that they
were totally completely ignorant of the lyrics.....but i could be wrong.
i'm hoping one or a few of you who know something about dance, "ghost,"
or both might be able to explain to me why this interpretation is valid,
or why smiling during a not-happy song would be something to strive for.
or maybe just explain modern dance to me in general a little more.

response. if i'll get enlightened i'll post again to share my new
understandings with all of you.

hey folks,

  this morning npr reported another bombing in atlanta.  according to
the report, a bomb was placed in/at/near an atlanta nightclub which is
popular among gay and lesbian community.  after the experience with
the delayed second bomb at the abortion clinic a few weeks ago, they
cleared the area before investgiating as a precaution.  it was a good
thing -- a second bomb did go off.  they seemed to be a home grown
sort of thing -- nails and wood as schrapnel.

that's all i know. no reports of casualties, no futher information.
i'm just concerned about list folks given (1) the number of atlanta
folks and (2) the relatively large homosexual population we have here.

sending out good wishes to those folks and communities involved --
and i hope they find the bastard(s) responsible. as gwen said,
"sometimes humans can suck."

yes! it's a post with ig content!

perry at rainy day records called me last night and wanted me to pass
along some info....

vol 1 of the early recordings series, the ep and more, is currently
being pressed onto standard cds (not the cd-r format).  for those
unfamiliar with this recording, it is a specially put together (ie
not on epic) collection of early indigo girls recordings.  all 6
tracks from the ep are on it, a number of tracks from amy ray's
color me grey colleciton, and some other tracks from unknown
sources.  quality of all tracks is very very good.  i dont have my
cd-r copy with me, so i dont have the track list or time (but it
is more than an hour long).  the cover is still in black and
white but will be a bit different from the cd-r version.

the price of this edition is $19.95 plus shipping and orders are being
taken now. the actual cd's wil be in hand in 7-10 days and the
first ones shipped will be the pre-orders. if you have a cd-r
version and want to swap for this one, just call the store.
amy and emily *are* aware of these recordings but are not directly
involved.

hey guys!

i was in southern california yesterday with some co-workers (we were forced
to attend this party on a yacht...i love my job :-) )and i saw the coolest
thing.

we were driving from la to newport beach on the 405 freeway at 5pm (all of
you southern californians can appreciate what that is like!) and this
beautiful brand new lexus was sitting infront of us...when i noticed the
licence plate said,

"chknman"

i was so cool. i took a picture of it! everyone in the car thought it was
really cool too, but probably not for the same reason i did! they kept
saying stuff like "maybe he owns tyson chicken"...whatever!

all i could think of was "i cant wait to go home and tell my list family!"

thanks to all those who responded to my request for ticket info...i am now
the proud owner of tickets to this show!!!!!!!!!!! (even though i
might've liked to call a little earlier in the day...but i really wasn't
up much earlier anyway)

now, since i wasn't all that awake when i called i didn't really ask about
the seats. they seem to be okay, but i'm not sure that they're on the
floor or if there even is a floor at this venue. i have the $22 tickets

hi y'all
  i was thinking about "language or the kiss" today, and it hit me with an
entirely different meaning than before. i guess i'd always thought it was
about giving time to career/song-writing vs time to love. or maybe more
literally, that it was about a singular situation in which a person has to
decide whether to act on feelings or just talk about it.  but i realized
today that it could be about long distance relationships. maybe you
already knew this, and i'm just 3-years slow. but it seems like it's all
about making the decision of whether to have a relationship that consists
mostly of writing/speaking to one another (as emmy's relationships would
be while she's on the road, i suppose) or to love the one you're with, so
to speak. the song makes a lot more sense now. if you're traveling a lot,
i can see how you would wake up and forget where you are. and then when
she says "i choose most of your life goes on without me"... she captures
that dreadful aspect of l-d relationships so aptly.  and there's such
irony in the fear that she might reap the praise of strangers and
"end up on [her] own"--she says "maybe i was wrong,"but in fact she _is_
alone since the lover isn't actually with her. poor girl. i hope y'all
don't mind me overanalyzing the whole thing, b/c i _am_ gonna keep going.
;]
  so anyway  then it sounds like she and the lover discussed what it would
be like if em decided to stay home for the next ten years instead of
touring, and the woman was like "you know you'd be bored to death if you
did that." oh, and that "if joy then pain" line-- i'd always thought it
was about being a lesbian, but now it seems to fit into my new
understanding of the song, too. and in the end when she's all alone in her
hotel room, did you notice that the stars that were previously her
feelings are now gone? god, she's profound.
  and another perfect-fitting line is  "mercy, what i won't give to have
the things that mean the most not to mean the things i miss." that's so
right!
  it's funny how you can hear a song hundreds or thousands of
times and then one day see it in an entirely different light. that's
what's so cool about ig.
   well, i must go analyze another work of literature for a class. for

      okay, first, i have no money, so i've decided that selling off my
posessions is a good place to start... (i wrecked my car last night...
thought i'd share, not that selling records is going to remedy that situation
at all!)  i have 2 extra swamp ophelia vinyls (autographed, black) that i'll
sell to the highest bidder by friday, the 28th.  just use a catchy subject
line (like "swamp vinyl" so i know to read your e-mail...)  any suggestions
on mailing vinyl are also welcomed. =)  also, somebody said s/he was going to
be visiting here around the 10th and asked for things to do.  i deleted that
by accident, but i would be happy to help you out with that if you'd like to
e-mail me.  i saw michelle last night and she was _incredible_, as usual...
=)  she did a short but amazing set... =)  she says may or june on the new
album. =)  speaking of which, somebody said something about buying her stuff
really cheap in boston a few months ago, and i'd really like to talk to

it's funny, when i first read that subject line, "ghost dance," a modern
dance performed to the song, ghost was not at all what i thought of.  i
thought it was going to have something to do with the native american
(specifically, lakota?) ghost dance.  i don't know all that much about it
but from what i remember, it's a mournful dance that expresses sorrow over
the loss of native american culture.  it's supposed to induce a hypnotic
state in which the irrecoverable past is recalled.  if i'm not mistaken, a
ghost dance was the occassion for the gathering which preceded the wounded
knee massacre.  given that bmhawk was recorded by ig, and the interest a&e
have in native american concerns in general, the way i read the subject
line it might also have been loosely ig related.

ray in "atlanta" magazine. it has nice pictures, too, and the lyrics to
"shame on you" are superimposed over one page (excepting one part-- it
says "i keep up"). heheh it's a bit long to write the whole article

time i came out infj, idealist-councilor, and the second time i came out
infp, idealist-tutor. they very close to each other in type. i'm sure
that it was a matter of answering only one or two questions differently
that did it. personally i think that the infj profile fit me better.

this is my first time posting to the list. i am a habitual lurker.
however, the myers-
briggs test results have really caught my attention. when i took the
test, i got the results for infj, but it didn't quite match. then i
tried again and was infp, this described me perfectly. i always think
it's a little bit strange that just answering a few questions can match
your personality type.

also, have there been a lot of infj's and infp's on this list? i read in
one of the profiles that these people only make up 1% of the population.

so many people wrote to me asking me for the url that i figured i'd just
post it. okay...this site is for the keirsey tempeament sorter, but it
will tell you what your personality type is. it's based on jung, too...
it's just a different method of going about finding the answer...

okay, i thought it would be fun; i mean, it's a standardized test, right? i
love standardized tests. it was scored as entj, and i really got a kick
from reading some of the texts & the surprising ways in which they fit me.
e.g. tends to take control of groups, roots out ineffeciency, tolerates
"the usual way" without much patience for it, can't create the group, etc.
etc.

everybody do this! it's good for a few laughs... and then we could compile
the averages for the list vs. general society: the great unwashed masses
who aren't like us.

well, i took the personality test..turns out i am an enfp, an
idealist-advocate, which describes me to a t. it says that only 3 percent of
the population receives this score....how many of you received it? it would
be interesting to see whether a lot of us received the same score....i would

well, i took the test too and jen, it looks like you and i are in the same
club because i scored an istj also. what does it mean?? some of the

well, i finally got my good computer fixed so i was able to get on the
web (at least as much as my computer is capable of doing, no sound or

ago and i am still an enfj, the pedagogue. anyone else? just curious.

anyway, i am so looking forward to the upcoming new england ig shows,

hi.  i scored infj.  pretty darn accurate, not too much on the career choices, but i

does anyone out there have any information on ticket sales for the wheaton
college show on april 17? i've heard that they are not expecting to sell out
and will be offering tickets to the public and selected area colleges --
including mine -- but no one has been able to tell me when they might go on
sale or what i have to do to get them. any info would be appreciated.

while we're talking about the meyers-briggs test, i came up xntx. so
basically, i'm either a personality moderate or a walking contradiction.
take your pick. <g>

it seems that everyone so far has been an n (intuitive) rather than s
(sensing). i think this really holds with the girls' music, since it's full
of intelligent lyrics and interesting harmonies which can't really be
appreciated on the level of pure sensation.

also, it seems to me that anyone who spends their lives performing in front
of an audience, especially with the energy and intensity of the indigo girls
(both amy and emily -- emily is only sedate and introverted in comparison to
amy, imo.) pretty much has to be an extrovert. although emily is more
thoughtful and reflective than amy, i don't think she can be classified as
an introvert. any thoughts?

the otherside has a www site up and the eerie part is that lift (a band that
has molly bancroft in it -- she was/is? on this list for a few years) and
vld were/are both scheduled there next month.  wierd, atlanta was a very
friendly place to visit (err even though i have mailed outr the thank you
gift for the people i stayed with and it has been bought since mid
october...) terrorism/ indifference/ hatred suck.  just watched schlinder's
list on tv -- i have seen it in the theater and it did not "translate" well
to tv..i mean it had such a more powerful impact. this weekend i relaxed for
the most part and feel emotionally drained, i have a hard time with
listening to "this train", watching schlinder's list because it so
emotionally disturbing. i look at that movie and realize it happened to the
disabled, to gypsies and to homosexuals and yet now people with disabilities
are still fighting for the most basic rights -- having to rally in front of
the supreme court for them, and bombs are going off in atlanta.  it seems
sorta appropriate that the two new u2 songs i really have grown to love are
songs which are heavily spiritual and, in my opinion --sorta based on the
sarajevo conflict. i just got a umteenth generation copy dubbed this weekend
-- if god would send his angels and wake up dead man are the specific songs
i am thinking of -- just make some sort of wierd sense.

well thanks for the post on the track list for shaming the sun.
i am really excited about this album. i am disappointed that
problem child, chiapas bound and winthrop did not make the cut.
i really love winthrop, and will miss it sadly from the cd. my
one hope is that emily changed the title to burn all the letters,
but that is probably not likely.

i am really interested in hearing shed your skin, scooter boys and
burn all the letters sound like. hopefully this pre-release tour
will shed some light on that to all us rabid fans that can't wait
to see/hear the girls again.

three years apart. once in the middle of high school and i was infj. then
three years later early in college i tested enfp, which i think is more
accurate now because i changed a lot at the end of high school. it'd be

okay so i went to see ani difranco on sat. night in osaka, japan!  only
about 150 folks, mostly foreign...right under her!  she had this wickedly
green hair with a thousand little braids sticking up, but it was parted
down the middle and matched  the six inch platform neon green bubbletoed
shoes that all my kids wear to school!  she is so shy on stage, but is
quite the humorist and knows damn well how to entertain her crowd.

so last night i had to jump on the bandwagon and take the test. i am a
tride and true enfj...a teacher (that's right!)...same as i was five years

i was infx, which means i was 50/50 between p and j.

     ok more .02 :) if you take this test professionally (i don't if that's
     the correct wordage) your scores may come out slightly differently.
     and you will never come up an "x". i took the test from a woman who
     gives them to businesses who use the test to determine which rolls
     their managers, employees should be in. it cost me like $125 but it
     took like 3 hours to go over everything. she explained in detail what
     each letter stood. i was soooooo close on the "t", "f" one but the
     more we talked i fit into the "f". much of this test is on how you
     process information. plus how i react to things on my job is
     differently than how i react to things in my personal life ya know? so
     if you are taking this test off the net, it won't be as accurate as
     you may think.

i am excited because i got tickets for davenport; even though none of my
friends my iowa city can go, i know i won't feel "alone" because there
will be so many listees there (wearing our shirts if we have them, i
assume!). i'm in section f, row 4--just to the right of the stage.
neat-o! i hope this will be a good concert. wonder who will open?

on to the meyers-briggs...my mom is a therapist and brought home the book
_please understand me!_ which contains the test when i was 12 or 13, i
think.  anyway, even then i knew that i could manipulate the test into
saying whatever i felt like being--i mean, come on, there are only two
choices for each question!  what is that but dualistic thinking--something
i ascribe to the worst aspect of this patriarchal culture.  sometimes when
i take it now (i'm quite a bit older) i try to score xxxx for the hell of
it (that's when you have the same numbers for every trait--i.e., i would
score as an i/e n/f s/t p/j).  when i was younger, i read the descriptions
of every choice,
and decided that it was cooler to be part of one of those 1% of the
populations than the 55% one (i made that last number up), so i made damn
sure i came out an infp--oh, poor, misunderstood me!  it fit in well with
being an outcast at school.  despite my efforts to look like an introvert
and my hatred of bars and parties ("when you're at a party, do you get
energy...blah blah blah!"), i have since been forced to recognize myself
as a waaaaaaay extrovert!  i think when i'm not trying to screw with the
test i probably come out an enfj, or maybe enfp--might depend on my mood.

i think it's important to realize that we are so much more than the sum of
our parts, or our scores on any test--whether it's iq or personality or
the act/sat/lsat etc.  some workplaces and schools make their
employees/students take the meyers-briggs, and keep the results on
permanent file.  i think that is a big mistake, although i realise as a
teacher that sometimes it would be helpful to keep in mind that every
student has a different learning style which is most likely not like my
own.  but hey,i think i have that figured out by this time.  duh.

did i say this before? the time period between march 28 and aprl 29 is
looking great in iowa--starts with the indigo girls, moves on to ani on
april 9, dar williams on april 27, and shaming of the sun on april 29.

many of us have asked for information pertaining to this show, yet no
one has spoken up and said anything on the list.

so, here i go.

i just called the "bryce jordan center" at penn state (which i don't
think is where they are playing, but it's the only number i could find).

the nice lady on the phone said that it has not been announced yet, and
she did not even know that they were coming. she did check with
someone, and she told me to try back in a week or so.

so, to my knowledge, no tickets have been sold for this show yet. when
i find out more infomation (or *anyone* else out there!!!), i'll email
the list, if that's ok with everyone... :)

yeah... it was the same for me. after my 11 year relationship ended i
got heavily into indigos and this song in particular (also ghost, of
course).
i must have sang the words to this song a thousand times before ... i
guess
without really ***hearing*** them. then, one day i was feeling pretty
low

i have so much work to do, & i swore i wouldn't waste time taking this
test, but everyone's responses enticed me, & i gave in.  so it says i'm an
exfj.  i don't know though...i had such problems making up my mind on so
many questions b/c i think i react differently in different situations.
and i could tell they were asking the same questions in different ways, & i
knew i was answering differently.  and i was so close to the 50/50 point on
3 of them!  but anyway, being a probable psych major, i know no personality
test can accurately measure someone's personality.  the fact that we cannot
adequately divide ourselves into simple categories makes me happy, b/c it
shows how diverse we all are.

hi- just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about
content/quality/duration differences of the upcoming college tour vs. the
album tour (presumably dates after 4-29). if ig does come to duke u.,
there's a chance i could see 'em there, but would the experience there be
same, better, or worse than seeing them at an "open" concert?

if you had to choose, would you spend your $ on a college concert, or wait
for the regular concert? and why?

ok here's the deal. i stopped by the ticket office today after class. the
penn state concert committee has not released any info on the show as of
yet. therefore, as far as the people in the ticket office are concerned the
ig concert does not exist. i guess we can assume since the sony site had the
date listed that ig will be here, but we have to wait until an official
announcement is made and a sale date for tickets is set. sit tight and i'm
sure someone will post something to the list when the announcement is made.

        i'm getting ready to make camping reservations at bayou segnette
state park across the big muddy from no for the jazz fest - april 25 - april
27.  the campsites are only $12 a night with up to 8 people (two tents max)
per campsite.  i've already have enough folks going for two campsites, but
if any of ya'll want to go i'd like to get contiguous campsites, so we can
meet and party together :)

p.s.  i'm _extra_ bummed that winthrop is missing from that list...  i
used to live 20 minutes from there -- had to drive through that town
every time i wanted to go to logan airport...  you can imagine my
surprise when em started singing about it at newport this year!!!!  (not
to mention that i was there with a college friend who was going off to
japan for a couple years - i may never see her again...  how appropriate!)

been launched.  it's for taking liberties - a women's arts festival that

i posted to the list a couple of weeks ago about this show.  i am the the
university concert committee here at penn state, and we are responsible for
bringing the ig here.  no, the show is not announced yet, and i'm not sure
when it will be announced.  we haven't confirmed an opener yet, but it's
likely to be "lift" from atlanta, who just signed with daemon.  (their new
cd is in stores march 18).  my guess is that tickets will not go on sale
for at least a couple of weeks.  they are playing at rec hall, which is a
lot like a big high school gym.  it's not a bad place, the floor is all gen
ad, but tickets will most likely go pretty fast.  i will be working the
show, but, as much as i'd iike to, i can't get tickets for all of you, as
the few they allow us to get are already committed.  how they will be sold,
i don't know yet, thay haven't told us squat.  i promise, as soon as i get
the date and means for tickets, i will post it, as there seems to be a
substantial amount of interest here.  hope a a lot of you can make it!

this is not a very good version of the test, imo.  as has already been noted
it is binary, and it it easy to tell what each response indicates.  also, this
test forces you to make value judgements, not say what you would do in a
situation.  better versions of the test are longer, as more situational
questions, and typicaly have at least four responses.  the questions are also
more obsqure as to what they are getting at, and tend to not so much asking for
a judgement of value as much as a real world response.  they get more to what
you are really like, than to what you say you value.  they are still limiting
though, w/ just four responses, and it is always dubious to put people in
neatly defined catagories.

i think the test on the neat miss-evaluated my type even though i answered the
questions honestly. it listed me as an enfp, but in the past my answers have
indiacted i am a esxp. from life experience i know the later is more accurate.
so, i wouldn't put to much emphases on the score from this particular version
of the test.

seeing ig on the college tour is better than not seeing them at all,
of course. you should go to any shows you can afford and travel to.
there always the possiblity of not being able to make it to an "open"
concert at some point in the future. i not sure if that answered your
question?!? simply go to every show you can, "open" or not.

i think we should just because it'll be a memory of how much we all loved
it before it even had a name....also on that list they meant "cut it out,"
not "cut it *up*" right? just checking... i am glad to see someone else

2) i heard on the radio (this dopey pop small town radio station that only
plays the top 2 songs all day long) that ellen's coming out episode is
scheduled for april 30, and that she'll come out to oprah. what a

hey all....

i just had to share how excited i was about the cd's i purchased over the
weekend.
i was visiting houston over the weekend...for the rodeo......i did not enjoy
the rodeo but i went so i could see mary chapin carpenter in concert...she
was great...although most people left before she played....oh well...i was
one of the few to stick around to watch her.  on the advice of "tony the
chickenman" i visited a couple of independent record stores in houston.  i
was able to get ahold of the "three hits" cd single, "watershed"
cd single, "uptown girls" cd and the "4.5" cd....i am in absolute ig heaven!!
although i can't say the same about my pocketbook...or my gf's for that
matter!  i must say though that i did convert her into an ig fan.  she
listens to them with me all the time, she sings their songs, she is looking
forward to seeing them in concert (for the
first time!) and best of all....she wants me to make a tape of her favorite
ig songs so she can listen to at work :-))

so who isn't counting the days until the new cd is released....i had to stop
holding my breath a long time ago...since the release has been delayed. i am
still waiting and hoping they will play in ca on the college part of their
tour. i really want to see them more than once.

i was wondering, wouldn't it be fun if somehow someone could scan a copy of a
meyer-briggs test, and send it out to the mailing list, and then we could all
see what we would get, and could compare answers with other people as well as
what we thought the girls would get. this could be a pleasant way to spend
these last frazzled months before map! it certainly would be better than
discussing what beer we would buy am and em, although that certainly was an
interesting thread! and it would be so much more uplifting than our recent

ok....out of lurkdom for just a moment to admit to my test results. it
seems i am an intj though not far from an entj. i agree with a lot of
the statements made about intj's in relation to how i see myself, but i
have trouble with the test itself to put a lot of faith in it.

as someone else mentioned, it was obvious that several questions were
asked a few times over and i found myself sometimes answering the same
basic question a little differently depending on the words used in the
question.  i decided that it was very difficult to get past the person we
may want to be in order to be truthful about who we really are.  there
were a few questions which i realistically should answer one way but
found i really wanted to give the alternate answer.  in some cases, i
caught myself doing it and was in fact, honest about the true answer, but
i wonder how many i didn't catch myself on.

i also found it unclear on occasion whether i was answering a question in
a professional or personal sense. i happen to react very differently in
a professional environment than i do in a personal situation. i think
this is where i came so close to the i/e boundary.

so, i guess the point is that i agree with the results of the test in my
case, but i am unclear as to how my answers, which i thought to be
somewhat confused, translated into the result.

so, back to lurkdom. i just came out since this was such an intriguing
thread. :)

it is my own design, which incorporates a peace sign, gay pride rainbow, and
sun. it all appears on the back of a turtle like the turtle in the honor cd
insert! the turtle is in indigo blue, because the gay pride flag omits the
color indigo, and, well, indigo has special meaning to me!!!!!

i'm glowing. i'm wayyyy too happy. :) today we got (all my friends and i)
tickets for the concert in davenport. it took us forever to get through
to ticketmonster, but at last we got seats in the 19th row, which a
friend who has been to that venue says is going to be really sweet. and
then, i got to go be a guest dj on our campus radio station, on beth
gerloch's ultimate album side. she does an hour of just one band every
week, and this time was the indigo girls. we got so many requests! i have
my own show every saturday, but i probably got more requests tonight than
every show last term combined. we might do another one next term. it was
fabulous. *happy sigh*
just thought i'd share. :)
anyway, will someone please email me the information about how to boot
a concert? i might try it if it doesn't involve too great an expenditure
of moolah. :)

i have thought about this, and the one thing about most colllege shows is
general admission and the tons of folks who only know one or two songs and
will talk throughout the entire show...

however, most of the college tour shows i've seen (brandeis and bates in
'92, unh in '94, dartmorth in '95,) were incredible musically, they both
seem so laid back on those tours, i will admit i was on a 15 hour round trip
ride to go and see dartmorth from bangor me, but amy was drinking tea on the
side of the stage in plain view and actually had a conversation with many
people in the audience. i am not saying seeing them outside of colleges is
bad and i have heard horror stories about other college shows, but i love
the college tours because it brings them to more intimate feeling venues.
this does not include newport ff, because that is just a separate mecca of
it's own (least it was in 92 and '93).

go to duke -- go to every show you can and still be sane.

the minute i said winthrop was my favorite new song, i had a bad
feeling... i have this effect on things. my favorite radio station just
bit the dust too.

anyway, i have been looking at some of the old archived digests, the ones
from '92 which was during the rop tour. and a popular posting topic was
... "why didn't emily put fare thee well on the album - it's so pretty?"
so i guess we have to be patient and maybe in a couple years...

but she was singing ftw on the rop tour, so come on everyone - let's

hello happy list.  i was quite surprised to see the title of the new cd as
shaming of the sun.  surprised in that it didn't make much sense to me.
map was definitely lifeless so i am glad that it was changed.  sorry if
this was discussed earlier and my happy delete key got too happy but i am
scratching my head about this album title.  how does it relate to the
travel theme of the songs?  i was definitely not an english major and
interpretting hidden meanings is not my strong suit at all.  so i would be
quite interested in hearing other people's interpretations of the meaning
behind the title.  and maybe what they think a and e were thinkin when they
thought it up.  pray it isn't another "looked it up in the dictionary" or
"saw a cool plant once" story.  i hope it has deeeeep meaning :).  ideas?
if this has been discussed i apologize in advance but i doubt it because
the title was made list public only a few days ago.
        oh and i have to say i too am sad about the absence of winthrop.
and to think they kept that pesky leeds in there.  well every cd will have
it's one instant skip for  me i guess.  happy concert going--feels great to

after hearing from a lot of you who really think that i am in watershed,
let it be said that susan marine and i were just kidding around with ya,
pallies.  that's not me at the end there, that's scarlett rivera (general

        i finally broke down and took the test, and came out an infj,
which by the looks of things isn't all that common on the list!  it was
kinda creepy how accurate some of the description was, like being
super-empathetic which can be a problem sometimes, and always wanting to
help people, and how infj's don't always understand themselves.
        what was even creepier was realizing as i answered the questions

i've been thinking about this, and here is my little theory.

here are the three little pieces that i am putting together to come up
with this theory:

1. title of amy's song shame on you

2. the line in shame on you "my friends they wash the windows, watch
them shine in the sun, blah blah blah....see what a beautiful job they've
done..." (okay, this might not be completely right, i can't find my words
to these songs, but you get the idea)

3. the somewhat political nature/social statement of the songs, at least
the ones we know of, (well, we don't know about shed your skin--but it
sounds political):
"shame on you"
"get out the map"
"shed your skin"
"it's alright"
"leeds"
"everything in its own time"

so,  my theory is that the sun represents the way that things seem good,
or the way people are busy doing there own thing, and not dealing with
all the problems the world has, this isn't coming out how i want to say
it, but i guess i'm thinking of all the meaning in the line of amy's in
shame on you.  and shame in the sun is how everything seems great, but
really, it isn't.  does this make any sense to anyone?  is anyone getting
what i'm trying to say and maybe have the ability to say it better than
me?  (since i'm up waaay earlier than i thought i would be and haven't
yet had any coffee, so my brain isn't functioning)

anyway, i just thought i would throw in my thoughts, as incoherent as

ok, i broke down and took the test, and even worse, i'm writing a post
about it.

according to the test i'm an intx, first one of those i've seen.
interestingly i've noticed very few nt's at all.

what was kind of eerie, though, is that i was three responses from being
an ixxx, and only five responses from being an xxxx.
what does that say about me??? i'm not surprised because my reaction to
a lot of the questions was "well that depends on the context, it could be
either ..."

while i thought both the descriptions of intp and intj fit pretty well, i
think ixxx is probably the most accurate! : )

on another note, can y'all believe that in the midst of all this nigc
posting on test results, mr. flamer posted about the happy list and happy
thoughts.  this is definately not the greg we used to know.  i think we
may have to come up with a new word for scathing  responses, "flame" just
doesn't seem appropriate anymore.  8 }

ok, so i'm really procrastinating right now and finally took the silly
test.  i came up an intp, not something that seems to be common on the
list.  however, i was pretty borderline on all attributes, falling 10% from
the middle in each case.  that's not surprising.  my brother frequently
describes me as 'wishy-washy.'

not that any of you care, but i re-took that on-line test a few times and
came up enfp, which makes a ton more sense for me.  oh well, i knew it was

i just had to share this indigo related story....

tuesday night last a bunch of friends and i went out to our
local hangout (a real "family" gay bar ala cheers). and the
only indigo cd in the juke box is rop. so we played it over
and over and over... with the songs in a different order every
time.

we were having a blast... singing along... dancing... partying...
playing pool .... it was a fun night.

so, over walks this girl from the bar (we were in the back by
the dance floor & pool table) and hands me a double cassette
tape. i say... "what's this"... she says.. "are you familiar with
the concept of random acts of kindness from the oprah show"
.. i say "yes"... she says "well, this is one.. enjoy".

i look at the tape and it is a boot of the recent philly, pa demo
concert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i couldn't believe it... i was sooooo moved.....

indigo girls fans rock!!!!!

just thought id share that special indigo moment.....i'll
never forget it....

this weeks people mag - page 90 - has a picture of melissa and julie and an
announcement of the birth of their daughter.  the picture is, imho, really
bad.  i have to wonder if magazines do this on purpose...  use bad pictures
in purpose because the topic (whatever it may be) is "unacceptable" or
"odd", etc.  you know damn well if it were a hetero couple (like sly
stallone and his recent baby - i remember the pictures were cute), the
picture they'd use would be flattering.

you guys heard about those scientists who successfully cloned a sheep,
right? i love it! just becasue i keep seeing these cute little sheep on
the cover of usa today and on the news.
anyways, i was talking about it with friends today. i was saying "i
strongly support the cloning of sheep." well, everyone seemed to bhe
worried about possible adverse effects and saying that it would lead to
the cloning of humans for bad intetnions. they were asking me why would
we need to clone people. now, i don't know and i agree that there would
be some serious issues to address, but i couldnt stop thinking
we could clone the indigo girls! more emilys! more amys! more music!
a new album everyday! concerts everywhere! as many versions of winthrop
as you can handle!

so, we could start a letter writing campaign to the geneticists of the
world maybe. anybody with me? maybe it would comfort amy's fear of non
existence.

mcafee discovers sharefun virus; first macro virus to automatically email itself to unsuspecting victims

santa clara, calif. (february 24, 1997) -- mcafee (nasdaq: mcaf), the world's leading vendor of anti-virus software, today announced that its anti-virus emergency response team (avert) has discovered the first macro computer virus to specifically target users of microsoft's popular microsoft mail (ms-mail) email software. the virus, which is called sharefun, searches through a user's email directory and automatically generates and transmits email messages with virus-infected attachments.

"sharefun is the first macro virus to commandeer an electronic mail program and use that program to accelerate its own spread," said jimmy kuo, director of mcafee's anti-virus response team. "the virus is especially pernicious in that it tricks its recipients into believing they were sent the file by a trusted friend."

how sharefun works

sharefun is a macro virus which infects word for windows versions 6 and 7. a user becomes infected with sharefun when they open an infected word document. once an infected document is opened, the virus infects the user's microsoft word environment and then runs a self-contained random number generator which results in a 25% probability of the virus taking a second action. during this second action, the virus searches the user's hard disk for the presence of ms- mail, an electronic mail program which is bundled with the popular microsoft office suite. if the virus does not find ms-mail present, then it takes no action.

if the virus finds ms-mail present, it accesses the ms-mail email directory, chooses three random email addresses out of the directory, and generates an email message to each of the recipients. as part of the email generation process, the virus attaches a sharefun-infected word document to the email and creates an email subject line that reads "you have got to read this!" the attached document is the same sharefun-infected word document that was launched by the user.

once the sharefun virus finishes composing the email, it automatically transmits the virus to the three recipients, often without the knowledge of the originating user. upon arrival of the email, recipients will find a blank message. what they will see is an attachment, which will have arrived from a trusted friend or associate, with the subject line message, 'you have got to read this!'". when the recipient double-clicks on the attached document, the virus will activate and infect the recipient's microsoft word environment.

in addition to leveraging ms-mail as a replication and transmission vehicle, sharefun also infects all subsequent word documents that are opened by the user from within word. these infected documents can in turn infect other microsoft word documents as they are shared over a corporate network, transmitted via email over the internet or corporate intranet, or shared via floppy disk.

on a lighter note, congratulations go to symantec because even though they have nothing online about the above virus, they do have a page discrediting the free money virus. i have never seen this one, but sav seems to think a lot of people are worried.

hi i am a huge ani fan!!!!!all of her albums are great, but my two personal
favorites are " not so soft " and "dilate". my recommendation would be to get

i would have pegged anne of green gables as an enfp....she does draw a lot of
energy from the people around her, that incessant mouth and all....but as i
think about it i can see her as an "i". actually, as an enfp myself i see

hey all!

jocelyn and i were counting cds the other day and we were thinking that "shaming of the sun" might be the last epic album in the original ig contract. that could mean a new contract, i suppose. or, it might mean that ig are going indie! that's not a bad word, ya know? unless you're a big record exec or something like that. ani's indie and we bought her with no problems in our local cd shops back in oklahoma. of course, now that we live in atlanta, we get to check out even more indie action. in fact, we drove up to nashville for extravaganza and saw the daemon showcase: lift, rock*a*teens, belloluna, reversing hour and danielle howle and the tantrums.

daaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmnnnnnnn!

we could've floated back to atlanta! five bands, all totally different, all incredible. our ears are still ringing! dig the underground. we had mail-oerdered these bands' cds when we lived in okc and, since transferring to georgia 2 months ago, had only gotten to see two of the groups live. so, this was a big thrill for us. btw, r*a*t's new cd, cry is just out and it scorches! new lift and reversing hour are due soon and belloluna and danielle howle said new stuff was in the works! we are acolytes in the church of live music and must attend services regularly. this is a great city for it, lots of good local bands (some great) plus visiting artists. we have reached the next level of awareness! ;)

i believe amy sings the first part of what i think is scooter boys, it least
what she had written at the time, right after shame on you on the santa fe
boot. it was rockin, there were drums and distortion on the guitars. i
don't really know what i think about ig with distortion...hmmmmm.....
anyways.

recently someone was talking about chiapas bound and how they thought it was
missing something, i am very dissapointed it will not be on the new album,
but as i was thinking about it, does anyone else think this song needs a
chorus ??? it doesn't really have one and i think that is what it is
missing...just a thought...

i thought it was about time that i stepped out of lurkville and started
posting.  i had a really, really cool idea this morning while taking one of
those lovely standardized tests during school today. i was put in this room
that was freezing and had pictures of fighter planes all over it and if the
picture wasn't a fighter plane it was a picture of the holocaust.  the thing
that got to me is that "peace thru firepowerr" was in huge letters on the
same wall as the holocaust pictures - it was bad.  obviously i got a little
upset and i was just trying to mentally get myself out of the room so i
started singing through all the girls' albums song by song.  then i
remembered that amy's birthday was coming up in april and i was thinking
about things that would be cool to get for her when all of a sudden i
thought. . .

what if we all chipped in five or so dollars* and gave a really big donation
to honor the earth as a gift to amy on her b-day?  if i was amy i would be
incredibly moved if people in  a collective effort gave to an organization
that meant so much to me.  i will gladly organize this thing if y'all are

ok, i have another obsessed (really old) fan thing. instead of the

considering that this virus report came from a company which stands to profit
financially from public hysteria about viri, i'd be a bit suspicious of it.

i advise y'all not to get your undies in a bunch until mcafee's assertion is

i'm starting to get deja-vu from last year...lots of excited talk
about where and when ig are going to play and the frantic search and

i am speechless for the first time ever---not!

ok--back to reality.  this is a mini-flame.  enough of this happy list
nonsense :).   i understand that we are all anxiously awaiting the new cd
and are trying to fill up time until that happens.  well how about striking
up a hobby--get out those garden tools--start preparing for your spring
garden.   go call your folks--i'm sure they would love to hear from you.
maybe you can take up the time by cleaning that nasty ring that has formed
around the drain in your shower.  or how about hand crafting a spice rack
that would put ethan allen to shame--then alphabetize all your spices.
these are all very productive things.
        my point--please lose the mb test posts.  i mean i usually have a 6
or 7 post limit on a totally unrelated ig topic before my flamethrower
emerges.  i have been very quiet.  it has pained me to be so quiet.  i know
i am not list king but i know that i am not alone in my sentiments that
say--this is the ig list not the 'introduction to personality testing using
myers briggs with a sample population that consists of people who like to
post on the internet a lot and like indigo girls' list.  i am sure that
list exists elsewhere--go find it and post there.  hell i am friggin
therapist and can't take this personality stuff anymore.  after the 50th
post i had to say something.  just like finish the tally and post it and be
done.  there is so much igc to discuss with all the new info and new songs
and new titles.  like 2 people responded to my igc post about the title and
3 zillion are still hooked on--omigawd--another ejms--thank gawd!  i agree
that the test is interesting and cool--i have taken it myself (hey
margaret)--but i think there's a newsgroup or psych list that would be a
better place to discuss it.  i am not alone here with these opinions.  i
still think this is a happy list though :)

i don't know about in the states but over here i've been told their
contract may well have finished. the owner of andy's records (part of an
independent record chain) in aberystwyth told me that there had been three
albums (ig, rop, so) and a compilation (4.5) released over here, which
usually means it's a three-album contract. let's hope not, because i've
heard nothing about them signing a new one.

personally, my money's on them not going indie, even if their contract
with epic lapses. i mean, it's by being major-label that they've managed
to sustain these various business initiatives, like the common pond and
daemon records, and it's unlikely that any indie deal they sign will
enable them to carry on with projects like this, and even if they do they

in regards to the "real" virus scare, i must admit i thought exactly as
kirsten c...what is the purpose of folks making viruses?  i mean, how do
they stand to profit?  i have this strange aversion to large corporations

** the following is pure speculation -- i have no inside information **

it would not surprise me to se ig test the indie waters for one album,
perhaps the "folk album" that is currently being discussed.  the
problem with being an indie artist is promotion -- its tough to get
your name out.  indigo girls ought not to suffer from this problem,
having multiple gold and a platnium release.  amy already has the
infrastructure of daemon records so there is no additional overhead
there.  the sales revenues that may be lost because of leaving epic
could easily be recouped from not having a middle man between ig and
the product.  daemon could benefit by having an esteemed act under its
label, bringing in more money for the company to promote its lesser
known artists.  going indie would allow for greater control and
experimentation with the music, something a&e like to do.

there is precendent for national artists on indie labels-- ani
difranco and righteous babe does rather well, and ani never had the
benefit of an international promoter/label. didn't frank zappa do
something similar?

and what if going indie doesn't work out? who is to say ig wouldn't
sign with emi (or whomever) after the "failed experiment?" there are
only so many platnium artists out there after all.

true enough, but i remember back when melissa came out, people did an
article on julie and mellisa as a couple. later on, in an interview with
conan o'brian ( i *think* ), the subject of that article came up and melissa

about the birth of their baby and after finding the picture, my gf and i
came to the same conclusion... a rushed photographer + sloppy journalism.

i came across something i thought really interesting. i apologize if this is
old news...

last night i was reading "the craft of lyric writing" by sheila davis..it was
written in 1985 and i gather is a "classic".  anyway, there i am reading a
paragraph about lyrics on real people.  sheila asks the reader to try to make
sure the real people (subject matter) have universal appeal and are not too
narrow.   sheila then makes a statement to basically give examples of strange
or potentially challenging real people to write about:

pg 14 top par. "nevertheless, if you are burning with a desire to
lyricize virginia woolf, galileo, or katherine hepburn, do it, by all means,
but - and its a big but- with the understanding that a lyric without built-in
broad appeal might get rejected by publishers".

could this be the scenario: "its pre- rop, emily is reading this book and
takes sheila's comments as an idea or challenge to write on the
subjects....again, the book was written in 1985...

i think what i like best about chiapas bound is that it doesn't have a chorus
-- in fact, what makes it special (at least in my opinion) is that it is more
like a sincere letter than a song.

it seems as though she has just lost the friendship/love of someone who is
special to her, someone she would like to be with, but that person doesn't
want any part. this song is her last appeal to the woman... it reminds me
of a place where many people have been -- you are in love with someone who
has a life that doesn't include you, and you can sit on the outside hoping to
catch a glimpse of the person, but in your heart you know you'll never have
them.

a catchy chorus would significantly change the meaning of the song for me.

well, hmmm. if the girls want to stay with epic i can't imagine that the
contract wouldn't be renewed! but if they want to go indie, i also can't
imagine it will have any impact on their records' availability at this
point. they're famous enough at this point that it wouldn't make any
difference what label they were on - record stores would still order
them. someone brought up the example of ani - she doesn't have to have a
major label behind her to get her stuff in the stores. when you have the
kind of large, strong, loyal fan base the girls have (that's us!) then
you're probably pretty stable. and although it might be kind of costly
for them to have to hire people to do the promotion and bookkeeping and
so forth, they could probably also get bigger royalties from each album
sale. (like ani does. she's a shrewd one. ;) )

hey there listers.  we have it from an "unconfirmed, anonymous source"
that the ig will be at the hult center in eugene, or on friday, april 4.
the source says that this is the only west coast stop on their pre-album
tour.  no information on tickets yet, we think it is being ironed out
right now, verily as we type this.  will post as soon as we find out.
so, west coast did not get left out!!!

it's unfortunate (or maybe fortunate due to their much needed privacy), but
michael jackson has his baby that same week.  on mtv week in rock - they
spent, what seemed to be, 10 minutes on jackson - then a tiny blurb on me &
jc.  i also saw it on cnn.  so, it was publicized - but not over exposed
(like jackson).  and i'm sure me & jc preferred it that way.

now, i don't watch saturday night live, but it would be like them to

hey everybody,
for those of you who live in or around the chicago area, i called ravinia
and talked to them on whether or not the indigo girls would be playing there.
they said that they heard the rumor too, they said that there have been talks
between russell carter and ravinia in regards to them playing there but
nothing has been finalized. the ig are not on their list of groups so far,
they also said that the "pop" category has almost been filled, they will have
definite answers end of april beginning of may. they took my address and
said they'll keep me posted which in turn means i will keep the list posted!

forgive me for wasting bw, but i have to tell ya'll how excited that i have
found ig fans!!  i am in indigo heaven.  obviously, i am brand new at this,
please excuse me for any mistakes.  i have been a huge fan since 1989 when i
happened upon their "closer to fine" video on vh-1, since then i have been
in *love* with a & e. have only had the pleasure of seeing them twice, once
in orlando, and houston, tx.
anyways, since i have been transplanted from o-town to houston, was
wondering if anyone knows anything about the tcu concert? is it april 10?
any houston dates after the college tour?
i am confused about their new album, title and date of release, but i can't
wait for when ever it comes out!!!

    i was looking through my hall closet and found this little rabbit
fur coat that i got for a gift when i was seven (and wore only once
which makes me feel better).  problem is i don't know what i should do
with it, my thoughts were with donating it to peta (people for the
ethical treatment of animals) so they could use it for whatever.  when
i brought the issue up with my mother (collector of useless childhood
junk) and she said to donate it to the homeless (living just north of
chicago, i know those cold winters).  what to do...help me!

that reminded me of a talk i had with a record store owner recently when
i was lamenting the small jazz catalogue in olympia...he was telling me
what hard times it is ror retail record stores, and how he just can't afford
have a wide selection...something about having to sell four copies of
anything to justify the order.... he said those record stores where
you can get anything are a thing of the past ...

i went back two weeks later and they were out of business...how sad.

i now buy most of my music through mail order.. this means i have to be
educated on what is available, i can see how hard it must be for smaller
labels and lesser known artists. i can't help thinking about the stranglehold

that mtv and big radio have on who rises and falls in the music biz,
and i resent the hell out of it (as you all know from my occasional rants ;)
...i really miss being able to get lost for hours browsing the racks ....

i guess the point is, i'm not so sure anymore about ig's success being

        so, the amazing supreme bday goddess and i were chatting today (actually,
i think i was just keeping her from getting to her class anywhere near on
time) and it turns out that we have anecdotal evidence that a good portion
of us pnwers (and kiminy probably, who would be a pswer in her respective
nation) will be celebrating our anniversary of being on the ig list next
month.  just sleep deprived and half-trying we came up with four of us.
this is, imowo (in my often wrong opinion) more than enough of us to
warrant a get-together.  (heck, i was considering thinking of using the
lame "spring is coming" or even the better "map is coming" excuse, but hey
- now there are 2 additional excuses we can save for later!)

hey, if anyone is willing to organize a collection, i know the
organization that it should go to.  there is a non-denominational youth
group in central ohio that has been around for over twenty years.  they
meet once a week to discuss current events and social issues (i.e.
racism, sexism, gay rights, native american issues, governmental policy,
the environment, and other stuff).  every year they spend a week in
michigan, virginia, west virginia, indiana, or the carolinas, into any
town that will take over a hundred hardworking and ideological teens.
they work through habitat for humanity or any similar organization to
build houses or fix houses for families who cannot afford them.  they
actually build entire houses in a week.  this youth group is forced to
raise their own money for lumber, concrete, roof shingles, and anything
else that they need.  donations of this sort could really help a good
thing keep going for another twenty years.  anyway, what better way to
celebrate a wonderful birthday.  please contact me through private email
if you want to help out or want more info.  i can direct you to the
leader of this incredible group.  (her name is syd, and is great to talk
to if you have any questions about what the group is around for.)  if
you're interested, let me know.  greg manter.

with all the discussion recently about the myers-briggs test, i thought some of
you all (especially writers among us) might be interested to know about a
very interesting book (that i happen to have, btw).  it's called "writing
and personality:  finding your voice, your style, your way,"  by john k.
ditiberio and george h. jensen, and published by davies-black publishing.
this book incorporates the myers-briggs type indicator (which was based on
carl jung's own system) in showing the many different writing personalities.
it's a really enlightening book.  check it out...

i am very thankful forone of the music stores in my hometown which
*does* carry just about anything, and they'll order it for you if
they don't have it.  i was blown away to find *several* copies of all
of ani's stuff there, and they re-stock it, too.  this store has
grown over the past few years and continues to grow.  if ig does go
indie, i know that at least places like this one will carry them,
even if the "big" chains won't.

besides, there will be lots of us out there to educate the world on
good music! :)

hugh grant "duh!") it's really good if you like those artsy fartsy
flicks...i do :). st. elmo's fire (the best "friends" movie of all time
along with the breakfast club), forrest gump, waiting to exhale, dead
poet's society, speed, disclosure, mixed nuts, etc. etc. etc.

and i both have march 8 to 16 off for march break (we are teachers) and we
are interested in possibly making a road trip to see the girls.  we are
hoping there are  some dates of shows during that time at venues not too far
from toronto/niagara falls (like 4 or 5 hours maybe).  we are looking into
elmira college in ny but the date is the 18th (i think).  so, i accidently
trashed the tour dates and i am requesting some help.  it would also really
help if it is possible to get tickets for the shows over the phone.

also, i really want the madison garden april 10 1989 show (45 min) and study
hall 1981 (45 min) so puhlease can someone offer to trade these with me?!?

i guess the heading said it all. does anyone know if the spring
colleges tour is going to be a duo, like the first half of the
demo-tour, or will jerry and sara be with them?

i kind of want to hear the new songs with a full band behind them,
but i really enjoy the interaction that happens with the audience
when it is just the two of them.

        this is a great idea.  if we could set up some system of collection,

for example, a friend of mine made a donation to the aids foundation in my name, and i received a beautiful card for the organization .. you know the kind ..

along with this, couldn't we all just send our money/checks/moneyorders to the organization ourselves and not have to worry about the organization of it? say i send in $5, with the list and my name as the contributor, donating in amy ray's name. i think this would be good for a few reasons.

1) no one's handling your money except you and hte.

2) your name is given to hte and ar.

3) hte will get such an influx of donations that they will probably send just one card to amy, and if not, she'll get like tons and tons of cards from all these people from the mailing list making donations in her name. that'd be cool, either way.

4) the person organizing this won't have a constant headache (i organized the loop stuff, beleive me, i know)

5) i can't think of any more ..

seeing iris dement, okay like maybe an hour and half ago, but i am still
floored by her artistry. :)
her songs are among the most emotional songs i've ever had the pleasure of
hearing :) (can you tell i'm an nf person?)
        my favorite song of the evening was "no time to cry".  it inspired
*me* to cry, the second time in a week, i've cried over artistic beauty :o
:o  i swear i'm not usually like this... it must be yoouse guys doing this
to me...????
        or it must be the work of the *devil*, bringing all this beauty and
love and appreciation upon my soul... ooohh, and of course, it's miss binky
also.. ;) :)
        the other deaaly i sobbed over was a supremely magnificent
presentation at the houston museum of natural science of margaret mee's
pencil and watercolor drawings were the most magnificent artworks i've ever
seen.   mrs. mee spent over 40 years of her life in the brazilian rainforest
and during the same period over 1/3 of the rainforest was lost due to man...
        **personal soap box** support honor the earth, sierra club, seventh
generation fund and other environmental organizations :) :)
        back to the subject, i can't wait to go buy all of iris dement's cds
tommorrow!!!!   her voice is unequalled in character and her presentation is
amazing :)

hi debbie, et al,

i posted the test. the 0's don't mean anything special. the questions w/
0's just tested one personality trait. if you answer one way it implies
a particular bias, but answering the other way did not neccessarily indicate
a bias, so it counted as a 0.

basicly there are four sets of letters,
        e vs i          extravert - intrevert
        s vs n          sensing   - intuitive
        t vs f          thinking  - feeling
        j vs p          judging   - precieving

say your scores are as follows 14e, 3i, 15s, 2n, 7t, 10f, 4j, 13p.

to evaluate this you would put them in pairs,

        14e - 3i
        15s - 2n
        7t  - 10f
        4j  - 13p

this would indicate you are an esfp, or extraverted, sensing, feeling, and
precieving person generaly speaking. notice also by the scores, that you
would have a strong bias toward being an extravert, and sensing, but not
as strong a bias toward feeling. there is also a fairly strong bias toward
precieving.

each personality type has its own basic desription, you can find a version
of these on the net. i have a version of them but it will take a while for
me to type them in since there are sixteen of them and they are all about
two paragraphs long. the best way to research this is by getting a copy
of "please understand me".

hey y'all....

i had a fabulous birthday,and it was very unexpectedly indigo!  first of
all, one of my friends, who i thought was getting me an ani cd, decided to
splurge and got me 1200 curfews.  i had not heard it before, and it is
wonderful!  i love "bury my heart," and "midnight train to ga" has been one
of my favorite songs ever since i was like 2 yrs. old!  i never thoght i
would like a cover of it, but ig's is wonderful!

then, later, before going to old wave night (no age cracks!!! it's 70/80's
music) at the florida theater, we stopped by fat tuesdays.  i've never seen
live music there, but they had some guy doing acoustic stuff, but mostly
classic rock.  right before we were to leave, he said he was playing the
next song for his best friend (some guy sitting right in front of his
stage)--it was his birthday.  it was "closer to fine"!!!!!!!!  i couldn't
believe it!  i went up to the guy and told him it was my birthday too, and i
just happened to be wearing my list t-shirt!  it was most cool.

and then my birthday was stretched a day,and my new ig friend casey cooked
me a great dinner last night (pam, add that to your list) and we flipped
channels between ellen on the grammys and ellen on ellen....

and today, anjeanette sent me a list of funny phoebe songs! i laughed so
hard in the computer lab, people stared at me......

oh, and i've decided my crush on matthew perry has now turned into
full-fledged love.

hi y'all!

i have to say that i was more than a bit surprised to see that no one
has brought up the grammy awards last night. here's my take on a few of
the things i saw:

1) ellen did a so-so job as host. some of her jokes (okay, most of her
jokes) went over like a lead balloon. her opening bit (a talk-song
while being backed up by chaka kahn, bonnie raitt, sheila e., and shawn
colvin (see below), was irritating at first but i warmed up to it. i
hope i don't offend any one by saying i was mildly aroused when she did
this one-leg-up-pelvic-thrust-thingy. <g>

2) as i watched bruce springstein receive the contemporary folk award,
i couldn't help but think about how that better be ig next year.

3) jewel (excuse my shallowness) had too much make up on (yuck) but a
sheer dress (mmmph).

4) shawn colvin (whom i've found enchanting both musically and
physically) looked positively awful with some "great pumpkin" hairdo.
her back up to ellen in the opening, however, was as equally
unmistakable as bonnie raitt's and chaka kahn (which is saying a lot).

i guess, as i re-read my post, that i spent most of the evening
evaluating the looks of the artists (for what it's worth, beck looked
like a slob and julio eglesias' son was a babe). sorry, again, for
being shallow; but these are the thoughts i have left from the evening.

        i'm just gonna ramble off some ideas as i type....
can someone find out if hte send out a card for donations sent in another
person's name? if yes, problem solved. if no, we could send the donations
directly to hte and send a card or whatever and a note about how much you
donated to mandi. she could then send all the cards and a brief letter
explaining what we've done to amy.  or we could send everything (checks,
etc made out to hte) to mandi  and have her send money *and* cards to
appropriate destinations.
anyway, those are my thoughts, such as they are. let me know what the
final consensus is.

ok, my two cents here!

i think we should send one big ol' check to hte as a donation in ms ray's
name.  yes, this'll be hellish to organize, but i'll do it if people think
this is a decent idea. all right, here goes:
we do it like the tape loop thing.  everyone gets divided into little groups
with a group leader.  you send your money to your group leader, who writes
one big check and sends the total of what is collected to the head leader of
everything.  this person then donates it all to hte in amy's name.

it sounds easier than it will be, but it does sound simple nontheless. i
think we should go for it, so if anyone has any major problems, any
suggestions, or thinks it's a rockin' idea <g> they should either e-mail me
personaly or post it, depending. we should get this going soon if we're
going to do it! =)

i can't remember who first proposed this project, but instead of all this
wondering about what hte can do or not do, how about just contacting fellow
listee russ rutter, who just happens to work for hte, and see if he can
answer some of these questions or work out getting a card to amy. this does

well, i pondered this question at work today and i have a theory, but it's
stretching it a bit...  dealing with the travel theme of the album, i was
thinking that a&e had done some traveling and was overwhelmed by all the
modern-day b.s. that they had to deal with or that exist- reservations,
traffic, computerized car compasses (you know that annoying commercial,
'mommie's lost!  mommie's lost!...'), plane delays, luggage checking, etc.
etc.-  and they wish they could go back to the times when travelers relied
solely on the sun and other heavenly bodies to guide them in their voyage.
so my interpretation of the shaming of the sun is that our modern day,
computerized, digitized society has caused people to take for granted the sun
and how it once guided travelers along their journeys.  there.

stretching it a little bit much? yes, i think so, but that's all my little
left hemisphere could come up with. sundara, i liked your interp too. the
sun always makes me a shiny, happy person (holding hands..).

i was really disappointed with the grammys last night. it just wasn't near
as good as it was last year. i watched up to the point where toni braxton
was making her acceptance speech saying "i'd like to thank so-and-so and
so-and-so etc." and i promtly turned it off. when i turned it back on there
she was again "oh and i forgot to thank some people last time i was up here.
thank you bob, billy joe, troy, pammie, and may, etc." sorry to all you toni
braxton fans but i got annoyed.
i was really disappointed that the beatles, who won 3 grammys last night,
weren't even mentioned during the show. best pop vocal for a duo or group
isn't important enough to present during the show? well, anyhow i'm glad
clapton won, even though i don't really like the song. ellen was wonderful
as always. the ella fitzgerald thing wasn't too bad either. just wasn't my
favorite grammy year :( thought it would be since the beatles were nominated
but alas. snubbed again. sorry for my diatribe. i hope y'all have deleted by

hi! i'm looking for directions to the wheaton concert. they might have

ok, i'm now even more embarrassed to be a mount holyoke student, but i
feel obligated to pass this info on nonetheless.

the ig concert at mhc has been _moved_ from thursday, march 13, to
wednesday, march 12. believe it or not, no one knows what time the show
is (my guess is 8:00pm).

tickets will be on sale only in person in blanchard campus center, and
there is a limit of one ticket per person. 1000 tickets are reserved for
mhc students, and 200 are reserved for mhc faculty, which means that only
400 are available to everyone else.

those 400 tickets will be sold, again, in blanchard, from 8:00-10:00pm
(it used to be am) on march 5. (i think that's a wednesday.) those
tickets will be $24 each.

if you know a student who will not be going to the concert, who will get
you a ticket, those tix go on sale at 7:00pm on tuesday, march 4.
faculty tix go on sale march 5 at 4:00pm.

mount holyoke's main www site is at http://www.mtholyoke.edu and there
are links to students' www pages from there. if you need a ticket and
can't get here, ask people to get one for you--you should be able to mail
everyone via their www pages. we are almost without exception poor, so
if you offer a few extra bucks someone might be willing to weather the
line.

how they will be sold, but will inquire.  the concert is confirmed for
april 4.  it is being sponsored by the u of o cultural forum.  they do

the show is sunday 4/13. tickets are (f*^king) going through ticketmaster
and it was a complete turn around from what i was told and radically
different from any other colby show ever produced.
first colby is not a ticketbastard venue. a listee told me the info 'bout
ticketmaster and i was floored. i called colby and was first transferred to
the concert recording line. i was *not* amused. i called back asking to
speak with a human -- they were so rude -- so they gave me this clueless
girl with the arrogant "i'm a rich little colby student" (similar to the
"bates" attitude towards townies -- same dialect 8^)) attitude. she was like
"well i think they go on sale march first..i have student tickets in front
of me"

my friend recently got 1200 curfues. he got it used.
the second disc, well we later found that it skips, alot.
the disc is covered with lots of tiny little blemishes, they
all appear to be on the surface; short of scraping them
off with an exacto knife we cant seem to remove them.
i lent my copy of 1200 curfeus to him so he could
hear it and am trying to fix the skiping problem. has this ever
happened to anyone else? anybody got any ideas on how to get
the cd working?

my favorite boot is the disney special in london, especially the part where
the audience memmers storm the stage on closer to fine to *play* with the
girls -- how cute :o  it looks like they might have invited a few audience
memmers up at first, but that last girl who rushed the stage and virtually
grabbed the flute away from (was it jerry marotta?) to play the whistle part
*jammin right into the same mike with amy*  gaaawd, i would just *die*!!! ;)
        and when the same aforementioned gurl leaped onto the stage, emily's
eyes got *real big* like she was afraid of a riot and it damn near looked
like there would be one too :o :o
        but all worked out very well and the audio portion of the show was
just awesome...spectacular... and for that reason my favorite audio boot is

sorry for the nigc, but i think some people might be interested in this~

        margaret mee was a british lady who lived in the brazilian
rainforest most of her adult life (40+ years) and drew pictures of flora and
fauna, primarily bromeliad and orchid species, but other exotic flowers also
like the moon flower, which only opens once in it's lifetime - on the eve of
the full moon - and then dies the next morning.  mrs. mee searched over 24
years to see one in bloom and finally captured it perched above her boat in
the middle of the night with spotlights and her pad and pencils in hand...
        the drawings are exquisite, mostly pencil and gouache (opaque
watercolors).  she discovered (i believe it was eight) new species of plants
during her experiences.
        the exhibit tour starts at the houston museum of natural science
(currently running) and runs through sept. 21, 1997.  after that:

california academy of sciences * san francisco * october 18 - january 11, 1998
dixon gallery and gardens * memphis * february 7 - may 3, 1998
huntington library * san marino * may 30 - august 23, 1998

think it is a great idea too. we buy their albums, go to the concerts, and
buy their paraphenilia (sp?). why not show a&e that they mean more to us than
that. i think it would be a great way for us to act as a list, and show our

i just saw shawn colvin last night at the beacon in nyc and it was one
of the best shows that i have ever seen - her voice, band and sense of

as i am still trying to make my mark in the iglist world, i volunteer
myself to be the iglist scanmaster.  if you are a list member and wish
to have your picture up and available for viewing, i'll scan them in.
however, is there someone out there with their own ig fan page who would
like to host the gallery.  otherwise we could establish an iglist
homepage at geocities.  i'm open for further development.

i wasn't at that show, i was at the show the evening before, which was
also excellent, and there were people up dancing on the stage during
closer to fine (which, regrettably, i didn't know then - i only had swamp
ophelia :( ), but no guest tin-whistlers. i was actually in the top
balconies as i'd booked my ticket late (my first choice was nanci griffith
at the albert hall, but that would have had to be restricted view). the
girl on the tin whistle was kirsti reeve, who until late last year worked
for bbc greater london radio's bob harris show (bob harris is a dj who
used to present the rock programme "the old grey whistle test" and plays
mostly guitar-oriented music, with a bit of folk mixed in occasionally)
and interviewed ig the following year - see:

hey y'all!

i just want to let everybody know that i am going ahead with the hte project
for amy's b-day.  i am still working out the details with greta's help so
hold on just a couple of days for all the info.  i will be away at a
conference this weekend so that is really what is delaying all of this.

thanks suzi....you're now my second favorite "suzie" on the list..hehe....i
try to share the wealth with my friends....you are right...the "emily at
decatur" does rock, but i think my favorite is denver 1990....its so nice to
hear emily say things like "here's a new song by amy...its called 'world
falls.'" ...and it's a song we already know....!

plus, (i think it's this boot...) during sits, when emily almost forgets the
words...and the banter that insues...there's also a really cuuuuuute laugh

gotta be unh 4/22/94 right before ghost when emily dedicated ghost to my
friend bill, who passed on three days earlier. i cried the rest of the show,
and eventually said thank you after the show. i realized then how honest and
real both of them are. amy has seen me at shows because i love to dance and
well most of the shows i have been to had sedated crowds.

favorite for show i was not at : 9/20/92 -- central park
others i *strongly recomend* 12/4/92, 12/5/92, disney london show -- and if
you can find it 7/1/94 great woods *with the encore* of mona lisas. i know
it does exist...i dont have it.(the encore part)

best boot cd - history of us - if you can find a good version.

i just joined the list a couple days ago and must say that you sound like a
good buch of people. but i haven't noticed any canadians posting... i can't
be the only one! i am from bc but am living with 10 other people from
across canada in a house in ontario. we are in this program called
katimavik, we all live together for 7 1/2 months doing volunteer work in
three different parts of canada. it's a strange existance so i tend to rant
about it.

it wasn't until last summer that i started listening to the ig, someone
taped me two albums but did not include the names of the albums or songs so
i am at a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to list dicussions! i am
really embarrassed to say that i had an inspirational piece of paper on my
wall with the chorus to "closer to fine" but since i didn't know the name
of the song i had down "... and the less i seek my source for some
definative, the closer the am to find"
oooppps.
the only other indigo girls music i have at the moment is part of the 1200
curfews album. i taped it from my katimavik group leader in winnipeg,
after i discovered the night before my group moved that he had this awsome
cd collection of all the music i had been lusting after (ani, tori, ferron,
various world beat..)

but anyways, just wanted to indroduce my self and say i am glad to be here.
i will not be around to lurk for the next week and a half but if anyone

     i just finished watching an old rosie o'donnell show, elton john was the
guest.  he was telling rosie about himself being gay and getting married in
austrailia.  he made the generalization that all gay couples get married
there.  he said, "rosie, why don't you get married austrailia?" ...it got me

i'd say it depends on what you're in the mood for.  her older stuff is
more accoustic/folk-ish (no words really describe ani very well).  i'd
suggest _out of range_ and _like i said_ (a compilation/remastering of her
1st two discs, _a.d._ & _not so soft_).  the newer stuff has got a bit
more of an edge musically (her lyrics have _always_ had a edge) and is
somewhat more experimental.  one definite:  see her live.

i've already got a page on geocities, there's not much to it yet,
but one of the things i was planning on doing with it was a special
section with links to listee pages. it should be possible to include
photos of interested parties. maybe make their image the button to go to
their page or something like that. i don't have a scanner, but a good
friend of mine who is helping me with the page construction has one in
his office that he can use after hours. so i'm sure we could work
something out.
so if folks are really interested in doing this get in touch with
me (privately please). even if you don't want your pic on the web, send
me your homepage url.

i really like the idea of having a group donation to honor the earth. here
is an idea that might help with setting it up:

on the bruce springsteen list they make a donation to one of bruce's
charities once a year. while the fundraiser is going on items such as
concert tickets and cds and posters are donated for sale and auction and
people also send in individual contributions. they simplify the process a
great deal by having the individual contributors make their checks out to
the charity, then one person gathers them together, totals them up, and
forwards them all together in one big packet to the charity with a note
explaining where they came from and why.

i have this real cool article from indigenous woman magazine (?)written
by amy (and another by em). in the article it was an essay about the
hte tour and in italics between the sections their are little blurbs
and one of the blurbs is:

hey y'all!

just a quick indigo note - today was our last day at the racist, sexist, homophobic company we've been working at for five and one-half years (yes, for those of you that know, the company that moved us to georgia). anyway, during our exit interviews, we had to state our reasons for resignation on our exit paperwork. of course, jocelyn was very specific and matter-of -fact, but i had fun. first i quoted,

"i saw the light, i saw the light.
no more darkness. no more night.
i am so happy. no sorrow in sight.
praise the lord, i saw the light."

and then followed it with "i will not be complacent."

so, ar is now in the illustrious (ha!) files of our former employers!

and by the way, jocelyn already has another job; she starts on monday. we are going to make our time count, and not sell any more of our lives away than absolutely necessary. think about it - every hour you work is a unit of your life that you have sold to another entity; therefore every thing you consume (re: buy with money you earned by selling your time) is paid for with a unit of your life.

basically, we had this sort of epiphany that what we were doing benefited no one, gave us no satisfaction, and wasn't worth it. we realized that we were chasing after things, we had no time for each other, no time for living. so jocelyn has found something less stressful in town, and i am going to use this time to write. we have decided that we can greatly simplify our lives and make our time much richer and more fulfilling.

sorry to go on this mini-rave, but we are very excited, and anyone that wants to talk about voluntary simplicity, please feel free to e-mail us :)

either that, or we moved to atlanta, fell in love with the place, lost our minds and have become hippies! you decide!

hey guys (and gals). i'm a list newbie. seems there are lotsa boots to be
traded for here (i have none, *sniph*) so i thought i'd ask this question:

i saw the girls november 18(?) 1994 at the town and country club in leeds,
  england.  they did an amazing version of tmf, with neil young's _cortez
  the killer_ in the middle, about fifteen minutes long, completely stunning,
  especially as no one was expecting it.  i was also lucky enuff to go to
  glastonbury that year (i hear there's a boot of that show, too?) but they
  did tmf in a much tamer fashion.  what i want to know is, is there a boot
  out there with the really long tmf, cortez killer and all?  i heard one once
  of a sheffield concert, but it was amature and so fuzzy you couldn't hear a
  thing. i like my ig loud, and this is probably my favorite thing they've ever
  done.

i don't have anything to trade, but i'll provide a tape, or money, or those
little goldfish crackers to anyone who is kind enough to help me out on this.

yes, yes, i know, i was probably on the brink of realizing i was an idiot
