hey folks,

it looks like we're back!  i have no idea what happened -
i suspect it wasn't the list server itself, but a more
generic problem with netspace.org's mail.  but i guess
it doesn't matter anymore anyhow. :)

hi, my name is natalie ripepi. i am one half of an acoustic duo from perth,
western australia(wa) called muse.  we have been performing around wa for 2
years now and have just released our own independent cd ep (which reached #7
in our local indi charts). we have also opened for quite a few big name
australian acts as well as ben folds five.
i hear that the indigo girls are touring in march 98 and, being the huge fan
that i am, i would kill for the chance to open for them. our music would go
down extremely well with the indigo girls crowd.  most of my supporters are
fans of theirs.
if you are interested, i would be happy to send you a bio and our cd for you
to check out.  if you need to contact me my phone numbers are 0418 957 466
(cell phone) or 08 9271 1297 (home).

look forward to hearing from you.
thank-you
natalie

that is rather strange so i'll come out of lurkdom to give a mini-review of
the first night....
first of all let me say that the opener, david ryan harris bored me and my
friends to death...strange 'cause i used to love his old band, follow for
now. hopefully those who went to the second night got a much better opener.

ig started of with an old fav, 3 hits....i can't give a full set list but
highlights included all the regulars, soy, gotm, scooter boys complete with
amy's rock star leap at the end, gallileo w/ bfe's sheila doyle on fiddle,
tried to be true, least complicated, let it be me, dgtgag, which amy seemed
to really get into, thin line w/ gerard mchugh, an old 70's song whose
title escapes me w/ baigl fav caroline aiken, the chorus is "i'm wasted and
i can't find my way home". much to my delight amy did romeo & juliet as her
"solo" song although it was really strange to hear everyone singing along
with it...emily then did as her "solo" song leeds, of course which i liked
a lot better without the ulali parts...although it was nearly ruined by
some guy who yelled out at the top of his lungs something about
georgia....emily said something about how she was more nervous for this
show than any of the others....encores included wild horses w/ michelle
malone, chickenman w/ that road manager guy on harp, and of course ctf w/
everybody up on stage. overall i though it was an excellent show w/ one
exception. i really miss the between song banter that was a staple of the
old days. it just seems a lot less personal than it used to be. oh
well...can't have everything...where would you put it? ;)

back to lurking....

often there, someone will happily relay any message you care to leave.  if
you need my snail mail, please call and i'll give it to you, but i have

owing somebody something, i swear!  so that's all for real.  my time on the

*i truly apologize for wasting bandwidth with more nigc, but
i specifically want this group's input on this point*

does it offend anyone else that the honorable symbolism and outright
generous idealisms responsible for founding this holiday has been
aborted by our generation to the moniker "turkey day"?  no longer are
we remembering what the "thanks" means in the name "thanksgiving".
we have removed all significance and history even going so far as
to ascribed a simple day-of-feast name to a magnanimous day of
praise, thanks and rememberance (whose roots may be soley
responsible for our initial survival in the usa).

does anyone else feel this way?  or am i stuck in a line of thought
belonging to the past?  it just seems a sure sign of ignorance and/or
disrespect not to remember the significant events of our past.

in our corporate world of faster, more, better, cheaper ... it is
too much to ask that our celebrated holidays mean something!!?

i tried to send this last night after the show, but for some reason it didn't
work.  here goes try number two:

hey everyone.
i won't review the show cuz someone else probably already did (i'm at
home so i haven't had access to the list since tuesday morning).  i'm going
to add a few things though, but please forgive me if some of it has already
been said.
first of all does anyone remember the debate about the
(mis)pronunciation of spokane?  i don't know if it was ever resolved cuz i
was only on the list for a few weeks last spring.  anyway, tonight i'm almost
positive that amy pronounced it "spow-can" (as opposed to "spow-cane" - the
way she says it on sots).  that would seem to indicate that she just didn't
know how it was supposed to be pronounced and now she does.  it's not really
surprising that someone would have told her the right way since sots was
released.  anyway, i buy this explanation cuz i thought it was pronounced
"spow-cane" until the debate on the list.  sorry for wasting space if this is
old news or if no one cares.
second, i just want to say how great southland in the springtime was.
i'd never heard it live before.  whenever i get homesick at school, i always
play this song on repeat.  it actually always makes me even more homesick but
at the same time is also strangely comforting.  anyway, i'm glad i got to
hear it live.
third, danielle howle and the tantrums were great.  i bought their cd.
i can't wait to listen to it.
fourth, the fox is such a cool place.  i'd never been there before, and
i was really impressed.  it so pretty and neat and old.  it was a great place
to see ig.
ok.  that's all for me until i get back to school and can see what
everone else wrote.  if anyone wants to reply to me, email me at
jennifer_cone@brown.edu not this address cuz otherwise i probably won't get
it.  happy thanksgiving to all the american listees.  happy thursday to
everyone else.
indiglowing,
jen:-)

caroline aiken and gerard mchugh.  i was almost on the verge of tears....
sounding as good as they ever could.... and then :  michelle, amy and emily
brought this huge smile to my face... "wild horses" .  just when you thought
you couldn't get enough, amy is all alone on the stage singing "romeo and
juliet".  gerard comes out and low and behold "thin line" . then, then...
caroline emerges ... "can't find my way home" (blind faith)  ... not to
mention a trip down memory lane with the sweet tune of "southland in the
springtime" and "let it be me" . never did i imagine the intensity of "don't
give that girl a gun" until seeing amy do it like she did last nite.  (yes, i
saw it her do it twice before, but.....)   amy was flowin' like a mad poet
during "scooterboys" and playing like the rocker she is on "shed your skin".
she even made "chickenman" tolerable... :o)   emily is the true queen of
guitar as we all know, but the way she jammed during the solos of every song
made my just shiver all over.  (like it was flowing from her soul) i must say
her performance of "leeds" was extrodinary, reaching into my gut.  and there
was much crowd participation during the favorites.. "galileo", "least
complicated"  and "closer to fine".

so much more to tell... will con't in the review of the november 26 show....

and to top it off the opening act was good too....

hey guys, i don't know if anyone else noticed this or not,

but she seemed very distant throughout the whole show, like her focus was more
directed to the girls in the front row rather than the rest of the venue which
was full of fans.  i don't know if i'm stepping out of line here or not, but i
was rather dissappointed in the way that she was acting....amy was very good
especially on dgtgag.

subject:      last call for holiday cards!

hey, y'all--

someone brought it to my attention that my 11/29 deadline to sign up for the
holiday card exchange falls smack in the middle of most college turkey breaks
(how soon one forgets...).  so i'm extending the deadline until december 2nd
(this coming tuesday).  i will be making the lists out that night or the next
morning, so please!!!, if you're just getting back from the pilgrim
festivities ; ), let me know if you're interested.

also, a few people have written privately to see if its okay to be a part of
this if they don't celebrate christmas and/or any of the other winter
holidays...so just to clarify,

this exchange is open to any and every one of you!!!  it is not a "christmas"
card exchange (although you are perfectly welcome to send x-mas cards, or
kwanza cards, or hanukkah cards, or winter solstice cards, or any other type
of card you can come up with).

the only requirement is that you are willing to send and receive cool cards
to/from all those other weird and wacky people out in indigo-land.

to all of you who have already responded--thanks for your patience.  look
forward to receiving your lists mid-week.

peace,
shelley

did anyone catch winona laduke on c-span? i was flippin' through the
channels and stopped suddenly. she was talking about the nuclear waste

bonnie raitt and the indigo girls to be able to get some appointments
with politicians.

this was a speech given at the university of santa barbara on the 13th.
they showed it on c-span 2 earlier today.

all with hope,

does anyone-  anyone-  have a story about dave ellison in which he is
actually a nice, decent guy who appreciates the devoted ig fans who
(indirectly) provide him with his job? i have (unfortunately) never witnessed
such an experience, nor have i heard of one. there's got to be something
redeeming in this man that keeps him from getting booted off the tour bus.
i mean, we know how great a&e are about us, the fans, and sulli has
always gone out of her way to be nice and accomodating to us, with picks and
set lists, and the recent story about handing out strings, too. and all this
while she- has everyone noticed- busts her butt at every show, before, during
and after. so it can be done!
i was fed up with dave after the september 8 show in buffalo, and
figured he was only there to play harmonica- cause he's good at that. but
then when he nearly missed his cue to tangled up in blue at the november 2nd
show in geneseo, well, then i just gave up on him. (about 2 mins before his
solo in tuib, amy looked to sulli and called over- where's dave? sulli went
tearing backstage to find him and amy goes, oh, sh*t! he narrowly made it in
time, and if i ever get to hear a boot of that show we may notice that the
girls had to stretch their instumental just to stall.
i met the girls, both of them, at both shows, and they were so gracious-
but i only got to talk to them cause they called off their ornry coot of a
road manager.....

actually no.  i found out on gma thurs. morning that thanksgiving was
actually started by the editor of godey's lady's book back in the 1800s and
all the symbolism with the pilgfrims and everything was added later.  this
chick wanted a special holiday for something or other and told all her
subscribers that thy should plan family gatehrings for this day with the best
china linens crystal etc. and it wasn't until this had gone on for several
years that it was made a national holiday and the pilgrim crap was added.

mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

hello, everybaudy!  i'm dr nick riviera!  (well, i'm not really,
i just felt like saying that. :)

a friend of mine in melbourne talked to the folks at ticketmaster
down there and apparently tickets to the first melbourne ig show
aren't selling very quickly.  given this, he said it's a
possibility that the second show may not happen at all, or may
get moved to a smaller venue.

if the first, then oh no!  if the second - heh, cool.  but i still
can't believe that these would even be possibilities, given the
fact that ig sold out two shows in a row and had to schedule a
"surprise" third date in melbourne last time they were here.  (my
own personal thought is that the fact that there's been virtually
no press for the concert series so far might have something to do
with it, but what do i know.)

tickets for the sydney ig show go on sale next tuesday.  andrew
reid and i will be lining up for tickets (no, we don't have to but
we want to :) from around 7am, probably at the state theatre or
around the corner at the pitt street cinema.  i just wanted to
confirm stuff with everybody who's going -

1) people we'll definitely be buying tickets for - me, andrew,
penelope d., jing khoon, shelley p., karen k., chris ken,
anna hidalgo.  (and everybody but shelley, karen and
penelope for the second show too, when that goes on sale.)
2) people we might be buying tickets for - my friend fiona, jace.
3) other people who are going - kirsti m., madeline.
4) people whose last chance this is to change their mind about not
going - helen, greg t. *grin*

okay, i think that's all.  if i forgot anybody, let me know.
people listed under (1) above will owe money to either me or andrew
after tuesday, but we'll work that out later.

:)
sherlyn
ps - call for list action - if anybody has relatives, friends or
business associates in melbourne, let them know about the show!
we want it to sell out so that the second show definitely happens.

this post is directed to those list members who are hittin' the road to
columbus on monday evening!
ummmmm...i posted a while back about my sadness at not being able to
make it to monday's concert but i've succumbed to the pressure and have
decided that work can kiss it...and that i'm going.  soooo...i know that
the show isn't sold out, but i just wanna know how smart it would be for
me to drive 2.5 hours to columbus and risk it.  i guess i'm asking if
any of you know if whether i'd have any chance of gettin' some tickets
that late...do many people buy them at the last minute?!
i'm usually more on top of things...i should have had my priorities
straight from the beginning <raucous laughter!> i knew i'd pull this...i
always do.  i should have planned for it! ah well, you can't win em'
all!
any info. would be appreciated! thank ya' much!

take care!

i guess i have to step up and say something positive about mr. harmonica
man here.

>does anyone-  anyone-  have a story about dave ellison in which he is
>actually a nice, decent guy who appreciates the devoted ig fans who
>(indirectly) provide him with his job? i have (unfortunately) never witnessed
>such an experience, nor have i heard of one. there's got to be something
>redeeming in this man that keeps him from getting booted off the tour bus.

the redeeming thing about dave is that he actually does his job.  this
isn't a flame, but dave's job is not to please us as fans, it's to make
sure that amy and emily get where they need to be when they need to be
there.  and it's not his job to play the harmonica, that's just something
they bring him up on stage for because he's good at it, so just because he
missed his cue at a show doesn't mean he's a horrible person and he should
be fired.  it only means that he was probably busy at the time and didn't
realize that he was supposed to be up there at the time (he works during
the shows to make sure everything is going okay and everything will be
ready for a&e after the show).

i actually have two stories where dave has been nice to me.  i actually
felt bad about bothering him both times because it was obvious that he was
busy when i talked to him, but he made time.   at the ft. worth show tony
and i had to go all over the place to find dave to talk to him about
presenting amy's birthday gift (we had cleared it with rc's office
beforehand).  he was talking on the phone when we saw him, so we slipped
him a note and then he came out to talk to us and told us that he would
bring amy and emily over before they left for the hotel to get dinner.  he
seemed stressed when we talked to him, but he was nice and he got us inside
the venue while security was yelling at us constantly and he made sure that
amy and emily came over to talk to us before they left for the hotel.  i
met dave again at the red rocks show when audrey and i were trying to pass
on emily's gift to someone who could get it to her.  sully was incredibly
busy and we didn't want to bug her so we talked to some security people who
sent us to the production manager who radioed for dave to come and talk to
us.  dave could have easily said that he was too busy to come talk to us
(and seeing how it was the last night of the tour he was very busy), but he
came out and talked to us and told us that he would make sure that emily
got her present.  i'm not taking sides here, i'm just trying to show that
dave can be a nice guy.  keep in mind that he has to deal with fans trying
to meet amy and emily day in and day out as well as dealing with all
problems that can come up in the touring plus millions of other details
that have to be attended to.

that's my 2 cents.

hi all:

god bless whoever switched this show from the convention center to the house
of blues. this place was so tiny. i still can't believe i actually saw them
in a club. tiny. tiny. tiny. i mean intimate doesnt even describe it. i was
on the floor -- toward the back, actually, and it was still like being in the
8th row. even better because the stage was low compared to full size
ampitheaters. they really were like right there.  and the acoustics were
amazing. definitely worth the 7 hour round trip from south florida. more than
worth it.

here's the official set list:

--least complicated
--3 hits
--get out the map (amy was adorable -- all night -- but especially during
this song. she kept singing along with emily's parts even when she was away
from the mike and had a huge smile on her face.)
--a song i've never heard before -- i dont think it was a cover, but i could
be wrong. amy talked to emily for a minute or so before they did it. it
wasn't listed on the set list, which my friend secured a copy of from one of
the crew. if this is a new song, (it's an amy song, by the way) it's really,
really good. kind of folkie. definitely a sad, longing love song. something
about calling on the phone cause your lonely...it's been two long years, when
you coming home, i'm hoping, i guess, you'll take my hand in forgiveness
kinda thing. really, really liked it. it segued into:
--tried to be true
--everything in its own time (i thot if i heard this song live i'd like it.
nope. still can't deal with it.)
--shame on you
--it's alright
--reunion
--power of 2 (the crowd really sang loud and hard on this one. i've never
seen them do it live before, so i was psyched. and i thought the little thing
the crowd was doing -- holding up two fingers when they sang "life by the
power of 2" was cute. they seemed amused. after the song was over, emily
thanked everyone for singing. amy said: "it was like a musical going on here.
i thought y'all were going to break into oklahoma!")
--cut it out/down by the river (oh my god. first time i've seen cio live.
what else is there to say.)
--leeds (listed as "piano song" on the set list.)
--chickenman (real good version. the shaggy blonde guy just about had a
seizure on the harmonica. strange, yet amusing.)
--hammer and a nail (i nearly threw my back out dancing to this. i'd
forgotten how great this song is live. can't help but getting happy feet when
you hear it. kinda like amy in the video when she sheds her shoes, you know.)
--shed your skin
--galileo
**********
--scooter boys
--a cover by the band with danielle howle and the tantrums.(they opened, by
the way. they are really good. never really heard them before. i wound up
buying their cd on the way out.) the set list says arcadian driftwood, but
i'm not sure the band has a song so titled. i could be wrong. help someone.
whatever it was, it was beautiful. terri binton joined in and sara and jerry
even did their own verses. let me just say this is the first time since the
rites tour that i've seen them with a band. and i know this is prolly against
list rules, but i gotta say, my god sara lee is hot!
--closer to fine.

perhaps not the most imaginative set list, but for me it was great because i
saw the acoustic hte show and they didn't do cio or sys and i really wanted
to hear those. so it was vundebar as far as i'm concerned.  amy did a couple
of soc raps. the everglades thing. and something sorta about abusing the
earth and overconsumption and "the veal/calf" syndrome. (at one point i
thought to myself "my god, she's been posessed by the spirit of jim
morrison." that's what it reminded me of. god, is anybody on this list
besides me old enough to remember those jim morrison raps??)

all that, and i got to hear some neil young/ down by the river too, which
always makes me happy. and whatever that song was that amy did before ttbt,
it was really, really great. i hope it's hers and it's on the next album. if
anyone knows what it was, please post it or email me. thanks.

ok that's it. need to sleep. it was a loooooooong drive back. i'll leave the
fashion report to someone else. though i will say their haircuts look great.

i love this list, i love the indigo girls, i love my life, but i do not appreciate
male bashing about anything, to each his own and if y'all don't like them fine,
whatever they did may have been wrong a zillion years ago up till now, but i am
sure there is not a woman alive who can honestly say they have never made a
mistake.  i too am getting tired of all the rampant angry male bashing feminism

i bought my 1200 indigo stocks! yea!  anyone know what the price is up to
now?

someone shared a nice story about dave! i'm so glad because i was really
getting to wonder why this guy was associated with such nice people- ig and
the rest of their crew/band. of course, for that one story i got quite a few
about him being just awful- and on the subject of his harmonica playing-
someone shared that he not merely missed his cue but missed his part in
tangled up in blue altogether at a nyc show. the version i heard was that a&e
had to talk through his part saying shuff like, '...and if dave wants to come
out and play right now at this spot here in the song, that would be great, if
he's back there, if he's anywhere, if he can hear us, that would be really
great...'
and i just had to wonder about this- an accusation about male bashing???

um, first, we had foremothers, too, who starved and all that, but more
importantly-
they didn't 'give' us our lovely usa. they took it, violently and
unscrupulously, from indigenous people who were already living here, and who
had been here for a very long time. i don't like to get into flame mail but
for mercy's sake this is an ig list- have they not made their point about
indigenous people's rights? please listen to blood quantum, for example, the
honor cd, read any literature from the honor the earth tours. it's all there.
the girls have been working very hard to put their time, effort and money
into these issues to bring awareness and change. we of all people, should
respect that and be knowledgeable about it. because for crying out loud, the
story about pilgrims peaceably learning sustainable community development
from the 'indians'- (can we say native americans?') is just that-  a story.

hi all!
just had to add some more about the orlando show! it was sooo
amazing. we were right there in the second row and they were like 4 feet
away from us.
the energy was incredibly high between the ig and the audience. they put so
much emotion into all of their songs, and i thought amy was gonna break her
guitar on cio. that thing sure does take a beating!! you could tell they
were having a great time up there! the setting was small and intimate,
whick was great 'cause they were lovin' it and so were we!
time for a fashion report......
emily) a black long sleeved shirt kind of knit-like, with blue jean
overalls. she was wearing a big silver necklace with some sort of pendant
on it. i thought it was kind of neat! i didn't see her shoes.
amy) black shoes (or boots i think), grey pants, and a shirt with buttons
at the top....had vertical moroonish stripes on it or something like that.
i couldn't see her new tatoo, but some people said they caught a glimpse of
it from time to time. her haircut looks great..so does emily's!

was the best concert i've been to! we were sooo close i couldn't believe it.
after the show we waited for them to come out. we were the first in line
and this guy came out of the gate and looked at the three of us and said,
"are ya'll together?" we were like, "yea" and he said, "okay, come here
quick!" he let us behind the gate and said, "i can only have 3 back here"
and we were like, "thank you sooo much!!!" he pretended that one of us was
his niece..we really weren't supposed to be back there at all. he told us
to wait and they would be coming through very shortly, so we waited. a
little while later we hear some faint screams, and in come sarah lee and
sully, but we didn't see amy or emily so we waited like 10 more minutes,
but then the cops said they had already been escorted through. we were
like, "no way."
it was really odd because we stood there the whole time and didn't see
them. we thought the cops were lying, but then we found out from others
that they really did leave. how sad!! we came sooo close to getting to talk
with them for a few seconds. oh well. maybe next time!
just had to share that!

for those of you who don't know, mrs. fun is a duo (connie grauer on

let's just be thankful that they learned how to grow food from the natives
before they killed them!  that's nothing to do with male-bashing; more like
white european ethnocentrism.  although maybe if they had let the women have
any input, we might be peacefully sharing the continent with millions and
millions of culturally diverse native americans right now. (okay, that's just
speculation. that was male-bashing. sorry!)

the song is actually "acadian driftwood." it is indeed a song by the band.
here are the lyrics for those interested (although they sang this in
madison, i can't recall if they did the french part):

acadian driftwood
by j.r. robertson. from the band album: northern lights - southern cross

the war was over and the spirit was broken
the hills were smokin' as the men withdrew
we stood on the cliffs
oh, and watched the ships
slowly sinking to their rendezvous
they signed a treaty and our homes were taken
loved ones forsaken
they didn't give a damn
try'n' to raise a family
end up the enemy
over what went down on the plains of abraham

acadian driftwood
gypsy tail wind
they call my home the land of snow
canadian cold front movin' in
what a way to ride
oh, what a way to go

then some returned to the motherland
the high command had them cast away
and some stayed on to finish what they started
they never parted
they're just built that way
we had kin livin' south of the border
they're a little older and they've been around
they wrote a letter life is a whole lot better
so pull up your stakes, children and come on down

fifteen under zero when the day became a threat
my clothes were wet and i was drenched to the bone
been out ice fishing, too much repetition
make a man wanna leave the only home he's known
sailing out of the gulf headin' for saint pierre
nothin' to declare
all we had was gone
broke down along the coast
but what hurt the most
when the people there said
"you better keep movin' on"

everlasting summer filled with ill-content
this government had us walkin' in chains
this isn't my turf
this ain't my season
can't think of one good reason to remain
i've worked in the sugar fields up from new orleans
it was ever green up until the floods
you could call it an omen
points ya where you're goin'
set my compass north
i got winter in my blood

acadian driftwood
gypsy tail wind
they call my home the land of snow
canadian cold front movin' in
what a way to ride
ah, what a way to go

sais tu, a-ca-di-e   j'ai la mal du pays
[you know, acadia, i long for the country (i am homesick)]
ta neige, acadie,    fait des larmes au soleil
[your snow, acadia, is made of the tears of the sun]
j'ai rive, a-ca-di-e,   teedle um, teedle um, teedle ooh

it has been reported that sarah mclachlan and indigo girls
will tape an appearance on ellen thursday, december 3rd.

speculation is that because sarah and ig were both
on the lilith tour, the episode might have something
to do with that event and so the musical acts may
do more than just perform the theme song.

don't know for sure.  does anyone out there???

the bible is supposedly just a story also, and our country was founded on the
principles taught by god.

look, i am sorry for wasting bandwidth for this, a subject that has probably been
beaten to death, however, *i* did not steal land from the indians, *i* paid about
40 grand for my lot here in beautiful lititz pa.  second of all, *i* did not
employ slaves, nor did my relatives.  not a word mentioned about all the
*immigrated* people slaughtered by the indians, it was war.  yes, it was wrong,
however, i was merely responding to the paragraph long new title for
*thanksgiving* in lieu of "turkey day"  which was all male bashing.

i am thankful that the us, beautiful place that i love and live, was open to my
grandparents who immigrated from italy.  my moravian forefathers and mothers
escaped religious persecution to live in this fair town.  we all have skeletons
in our closets, however to direct the anger towards men is wrong.

and yes, there are native americans still living here today, are they repressed?
was i when i was told to go to work at age 13 if i wanted spending money?  no.
this is a land of choices, thanks to our forefathers, who wrote our mighty
constitution to protect the rights of all.  i am sure they had wonderful women
behind them.  but women as a populus were not reconized as *real people* till
this past century.  does that give us the right to hate the males?  no.

i subscribed to this list because i love the indigo girls and the messages they
deliver with their music.  not to read about women procecuting men for what
happened 400 years ago.  this procecution continues today in the name of
feminism.  its obvious by some of the subtle messages left by the subscribers
here.

feminism is about equal rights for women, equal pay for equal work, equality for
each gender as god's children.

our moravian motto is:

in essentials unity,
in nonessentials understanding,
and in all things love.

how's about accepting all...even men.

love, karen

y'all, it seems as though someone sold off half a million shares of ig stock
on the roguemarket because the price fell from 12.47 to 9.51, which is the
lowest it has ever been. this is not good. i hate knowing that hanson shares
are going for 15.08 whilst our girls are only 9.51. it's quite distressing
indeed...

also saw the show in orlando. it rocked as everyone has already said. waited
for the girls outside after the show which i never do because i'm usually
with someone who wants to leave before the show even ends. anyway, they came
out and signed a couple of autographs and talked for a little bit. i shook
emily's hand. didn't get to hug her this time :( has anyone ever noticed how
warm emily's hands are? is that a strange thing to notice? her hands were
really warm. i figured if i ever got that close to her again i would look at
her eyes (because everyone knows the woman's got the best eyes ever) but i
stood there and just about freaked over the warmth of her hand. yeah i'm
weird and i know it... i was just really affected by emily's warmth both
figuratively and literally. i guess that happens when you play the guitar
for two and a half hours...

anyway...does anyone have a boot of the show? some girl with whom i stood in
line booted it. i emailed her and haven't gotten a response. i can trust
y'all better anyhow.

also, lisa dupre please email me. i somehow deleted my address book so i
lost your email and your snail mail. i looked for you at the show. asked a
bunch of people "are you lisa?" to no avail. actually i did find someone
named lisa but it wasn't you. she was really nice, but i didn't give her
your money though ;) email me so i can get your money to you. i'll stick it
in da box tomorrow.

'night y'all!

hey there, when i bought tix for the louisville show, i went to the venue
first day of sale, early in the morning,  with only 40 people or so in  front
of me.  there was no possible way of picking your seat, and the "friendly"
workers couldn't be bothered with any questions like " is that the emily side
or the amy side?".  also, my seats are 11 rows back, which makes me wonder
who has all those totally up front seats.  not being the sign waving-trying
to get their attention type, i'm happy with these seats, but it does cause me
to question exactly how tix are distributed.  i was told by several people
that i could get a better seat by buying from the venue, but who really
knows??

for those of you, like me, who didn't get a chance to catch the lilith fair
behind the music special on vh1 when it was on before, here are two more air
times:

wednesday, dec. 3 - 12 am (technically, midnight on dec. 4)
saturday, dec. 6 - 5 pm

also, in nigc tv news, janis ian will be performing on the family channel (i
think the show is called home and family) on thursday, dec. 4 at 1 pm.

all times are eastern, cuz it's the best time zone of them all!

happy less than three weeks left in the semester,

does anyone have the latest tour date sked. i can't get out on the web from
home and i'm off from work the next few days and don't want to go into the
office to check because i will wind up getting sucked into something no
doubt. please email it to me if you have it. i've decided i must find one
more show i can see on this tour. i'm going to lilith on dec. 10, but i'm
covering it for addicted to noise, so it will be tense and like work...

one last orlando note: did anyone else who was there notice that emily was
doing some amazing things with her voice? it was stunning. she was holding
notes for a long long long time -- just really powerful and impressive.
caused quite a bit of woo-hooing. i remember reading here awhile back that
she was having some type of vocal nodes problem. last night, anyway, it
sounded like that must be cleared up.

if you don't live near fargo, i don't want to waste you're time by making
you continue.

i just registered to this list today, so i apologize if i'm rehashing
anything, but i very badly wanted to know some stuff.

i'm a huge ig fan, but i live in wpg man can, so they pretty much never end
up near here.  i checked tourdates every day to see when they'd be near me,
and i was super excited to find out that they'd be in minniapolis (only 8
hrs away), until i realized that it was the day after i got my wisdom teeth
out.  i misread the list and thought that their tour ended around there, so
i stopped checking sites.  until today...   they're playing in fargo in a
12 days, and my exams end in 8, so my life rocks.  fargo's even closer, i
can bus down, or borrow my parent's car, and have a rocking good time.  but
i'm worried that tickets are sold out and i just don't know where to call.
if anyone out there can help me, send me a private email, and you get my
ever lasting thanks.

the united states was not founded on ideas taken from the bible.  rather it
was founded on the interpretations of the bible according to rich, white,
land and people owning beaurocratic men.  some of the founding fathers were
agnostics, (gasp!) even athiests as well.  while in america currently 96% of
the people believe in god (according to "mother jones"), it was founded in a
recent 1996 gallup pole that 72% of americans believe in angels, 56% believe
in the devil, 42% believe in demonic posession, 45% in earthly visits from
ufo's, 33% in haunted houses, and 25% believe in astrology. (the nation.)
and as for your pleas of innocence since you were not directly involved with
the atrocities you stated, i would just remind you that i am sure that there
are quite a few germans who would like everyone to know that none of their
fathers were in the ss and none of their mothers were awarded metals for
siring aryan children.  there's an entire european country who would like to
reduce eight million people to "skeletons in their closets."  it is just not
possible.  if you can be so bold as to have pride in being an american, than
you should also be able to take responsibility in the face of your america
for the crimes this country has committed.
are indians repressed today?  in keeping with our "indigo girls" theme here,
can i ask if you have ever have listened to the song "bury my heart at
wounded knee?"
some lyrics:
"indian legislation's on the desk of a do right congressman, now he don't
know much about the issues, so he picks up the phone and asks the advice of
the senator out in indian country, a darling of the energy companies who are
ripping of what's left of the reservation... they got the energy companies
who take the land and they got churches by the dozen trying to guide our hand
and turn out mother earth to pollution, war, and greed"
why don't you read some about leonard peltier or the writings of sherman
alexie if that is not an accurate enough description of their opression?
the prosecution of women did not end 400 years ago.  it continues though
rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment, anti-abortion rallies, etc. etc.
as cybil shepard said "...it pisses me off when women...don't use the word
"femenist" when they are all benefiting from the great feminists who
struggled and suffered and worked to give us everything women now enjoy--
including the right to vote, to bring a lawsuit, the right to custody in a
divorce--everything."
the indigo girls message has a lot to do with feminism and with taking
responsibilities for our mistakes-- "funny i think we were all on the same
ship back in 1694--" and while this is most certainly not a list for male
bashing, it should not be criticized for becoming a forum for feminism and
woman's issues.  after all, it is more  than a gossip column of the private
lives of emily and amy, isn't it?

okay--as ever,

can someone please post the orlando set list (or if it has been posted,
please e-mail me!).  thanks.

on my way home from miami today, i had a layover in atlanta.  i searhed
that airport for anything that could be possibly remotly related to the
girls.  nothing.  nada.  zip.  i looked in every local magazine and
newspaper.  i did leave with an indigo blue atlanta shotglass and a
postcard that says "hi y'all from atlanta" or something mifty like that.
oh well.  it was still pretty cool.

then on my flight from chicago to columbus (yes, i flew like all day
today) i was wearing my ig hat and my ig fish/snowflake shirt.  the woman
sitting next to me was all over that one.  she was like "did you see
them?" and stuff like that.  i happily told her that if she'd be in
columbus tomorrow, the girls would be there.

okay, well i need to get some sleep cause a) i was up at 4:45 to catch my
first flight and b) i better be wide awake for the ig show in columbus
tomorrow!  less than 24 hours!  woo hoo!

ja mata!
:-) karen
