hi y'all!
i have been away from witt world for a week (spring break) so i still
don't have any info on tickets or prices or anything like that (a number
of you e-mailed me). i promise to post any relevent information as soon
as i get it. i would guess that they should be announcing when tickets go
onsale pretty soon. i am pretty sure that this show will be general
admission (concerts at wittenberg usually are), and i highly doubt that it
will be necessary to get there hours and hours before the show (in fact,
since witt security is made up of a bunch of tightasses, they'll probably
tell those who are waiting to leave) because i don't think that most of
the people who actually attend wittenberg are really interested in seeing
the girls (people think that i am weird and i am knows as "the girl who
loves the indigo girls" around there -- they're not the most popular band
on campus). and those who are interested in seeing the girls probably
won't be fighting to get up to the front.
but anyway, i do promise to keep everyone informed about tickets and
prices. i'll post it as soon as i find out!
:-) karen

hi all,
this may be old news but thought i'd share anyway. we have only recently
begun to get southpark the animated series here and last night episode had a
reference to our beloved indigo girls in it. i just about fell off the chair
.i dont know the characters names but one of them asked another if he was
still trying to be a lesbian?....he replied yes his mom had told him to
"lick carpet"(what the devil this means i don't know) and the other guy said
that he had just bought an indigo girls cd so he thought he was on the way
to being a lesbian now.
i don't know that the ig's would think of the mention but i thought it was
interesting.
take care,

just thought i'd share this with you---
i was just looking through my "indigo treasures" and i came across my two
limited edition signed sof albums (1 sealed and 1 open, i couldn't help
myself). anyway, emily singed her name in red marker and drew a little
neck tie next to her name, and amy signed "aray" in black ink and drew a
peace sign.
two questions
1. should i open the other album oooh....
2. and does anyone know how many limited editions there are???? i was told
1500?
thanks,

as much as i hate to admit it, vh-1 does play ig videos.
but, they usually play them in medium to light rotation, so
if you don't happen to be watching the one or two
times an ig video gets played you're out of luck!!
i haven't heard of mtv playing them since "joking"
back in '92! i find that strange because it was
watching "closer to fine" on mtv that turned me
on to ig in the first place back in 1989!
as for the opinion stated about who runs the programming,
at times it is pretty hard to argue against it!!!

the following took me about two or three minutes to find using yahoo.
virus hoaxes run rampant, and i have yet to receive an
email about a real virus. please do your homework before filling up
people's mailboxes.
from the international computer security association
(http://www.icsa.net/services/consortia/anti-virus/lab.html):
standard email virus information / disclaimer:
while it is impossible for a user to become infected by simply reading a
text email
message, please be aware of a possibly infected attachment. use
antivirus software and make backups of
important data.
on "win a holiday":
background :
"win a holiday" combines a new hoax with an old one (mail delivery
subsystem). it has typical wording
for a hoax alert, erasing everything on your hard drive and announced by
a major company (microsoft). i
guess if you include an impressive company in your alerts they're more
believable. past hoaxes have
mentioned fcc, ibm and a few other impressive companies.

hey everybody,
i just had a question that i thought someone might be able to answer. i
was reading the ig epic board last night, and a little girl posted a
message saying that she was the little girl who amy and emily were talking
to before mystery on 1200 curfews. she said that she was eight then, but
is 11 now. anyway, she posted her e-mail address and i did not write it
down and then when i went today to get it, the message was already erased.
i wanted to e-mail her back. did anyone possibly read the board and happen
to copy down her e-mail address? if they did i was wondering if someone
could send it to me. my e-mail is:
cch211@is8.nyu.edu (address all lowercase)
i tried posting a message on the epic board, too, so hopefully someone
will have it.
thanks a lot and take care,
chloe

usually the way message boards work, you can find the button that says "list
all" and it will list all the messages on that board, and the one you are
looking for will be there. hope this helps.

hi all-
i just got the "indigo girls" songbook yesterday, and i was flipping
through it and noticed that there are a lot of random pictures of people
i don't recognize. the book doesn't say what the pictures are, but i was
wondering if anyone knew. for example, who is that baby??? that picture
was the most random of them all. the rest made sense because they are
obviously people working with them in the studio, etc., but a baby?
just curious--

now that many are taking mid-terms exams/ writing papers/ gone on spring
break -- this probably isn't the best time to reach the widest (and
possibly most needed) audience for this post... however...
okay, i'm gonna go out on a limb here... and suggest/ request that this
type of info *not* be publicly posted. similarly, ig's hotel res or
other travel/ personal itinerary.
yes, perhaps ig said that they "really enjoyed it" when some fans in
australia met them at the airport... but there were only a couple of
folks there and it's quite possible that the comment was somewhat
sarcastic in nature.
last november, i was flying somewhere to meet someone and they initially
wanted to meet me at the airport after a long flight. i was *very* happy
that they weren't able to do so. the next time you fly somewhere, try to
imagine yourself schlepping your carry-on off the plane, through the
airport, and suddenly being confronted by cameras and folks who want to
meet you... not fun, imho.
i think we should remember to respect ig's privacy whenever possible.
however... before and after shows, sound checks, and other *public*
appearances -- when they're in "ig mode"... that's another story
altogether...
just my 2¢.
peace,

good question considering that her birthday is about a month away!
what is going on with planning her present? i still vote for the chiapas
thing. they need our help badly, and amy is really all into the issue. i
mean, it's kind of her "baby" for the time being.
but that's just my opinion. but i think we need to get moving on this

hey kids,
i know its been a while since i've posted but i cant resist telling
everyone about last nite. so i now have an obsession with susan werner as
this is my 2nd post relating a concert of hers i went to.
last nite i went to see susan at the grace norton rogers school in
hightstown, nj. it rocked! i went with my friend lori who's lurking
around on the list somewhere. it was an elementary school which was kind
of weird but nice and intimate at the same time. after much convincing
and prodding i got my roommate to lend me his tape recorder and i booted
the show from the third row, left speaker side... it came out unbelievable
quality. if anybody wants it, let me know. except for a few times where
the mic hit my shirt or i dropped it the sound quality is definitely a-/a.
anyhow, she played some new stuff which i'm learning slowly, talked a
lot in between songs. from the old stuff she played last of the good
straight girls, yes to you, and some others. i got susan's set list but
can't remember all of it. she had another guitar player with her, jay who
was really good and did a five minute instrumental solo.
after the show, susan signed autographs and i had her sign my setlist.
she kind of remembered me from the princeton show. dialogue went like
this:
sw- "you look familiar"
me- "i was at the princeton show with martin sexton."
sw- "oh, right, and you were with that friend with the crazy dress."
me- "that was me."
and then she asked me my name again and smiled. i asked her if she was
coming to the newport folk festival and she said that she's going to play
the nite before somewhere. i told her if it was on the way that i'd stop
by and see her.
well, thats about it. if anyone wants the boot let me know. only 1 90
min. tape. had a fabulous time.
things indigo and susan werner,
mike

my parents live in canada, where you can't get mtv or vh1- just
muchmusic, which plays worse music than mtv (but at least more music,
and less gameshows. however, the canadian country station cmt played
the shame on you video while i was home this winter: they have a daily
show called something like "rock n country" which plays stuff that i
guess they feel appeals to fans of both- they played melissa etheridge,
ig, the wyrd sisters, leahey...that was the best programming i'd ever

ar ein chicago, have i got a show for you!
patty larkin, if you havent heard of her, is just about the
finest acoustic musician playing today. seriously. you know
how good emily is on guitar? patty's better. it's not
sacrilege, it's truth. it amazes me that patty doesnt have
a higher profile than she does because she is just so fabulous
(i'm biased i admit it, but i know there are other patty fans
out here too...)(and i know that emily is a patty larkin fan, if that
helps). patty's shows feature a great mix of hilarious in
between song chatter, strong ballads, and fabulous guitar work.
she puts on a great show.
patty's got a show coming up in chicgo at park west. because
there is so little folk radio, apparently, in that area, the show is
selling slowly. so i want to make a plug for it. details:
patty larkin at park west, chicago, sat. march 21
tickets are $13.50 and can be had through ticketmaster.
opening act is martin sexton
if you arent in chicago, patty tours pretty extensively. i am
putting the finishing touches on a patty web page which will include
tour dates..i'll post when it's done and maybe you can find
a show near you!

ok, ok! before we lose everyone on this list, let's
vote. i have mail filters set up, so let's do it.
the latest on chiapas is that i'm officially going
march 28 - april 7 and will let everyone know how
it goes, and will try to bring back cool things from
the indiginous craftspeople. also, atlanta recently
started up a branch of the national commission for
democracy in mexico, notable members being a & e &
mm among lots of others.
http://www.mindspring.com/~teddie/main.htm
this is probably the organization
we'll send money to if chiapas wins, so amy can
have direct influence over how the money is spent.
sound good?
if you haven't read the arguments for the other ideas,
see http://members.tripod.com/~indigoempire/projamy.html
how to vote:
the three contest entries are: youth pride,
virginia slam, and chiapas. vote by emailing me
personally, enitz@evolving.com and put project
amy and one of youth pride, slam, or chiapas in the
subject lines. please stick to these subject
lines, as i don't want to sort through a thousand notes
looking for votes. you don't need to have anything
in the body of the note, as i won't read anything with
these subject lines. feel free to comment to me directly
using a different subject line, however.
random rules: duh, no voting more than once, and let's
have a full turnout for this one!
i'll collect votes for a week starting today. go!!

hey everyone-
i know that we are a bunch of very giving and politically active people,
so i fugured i could maybe solicit some help from everyone to help a
cause that really makes a difference. if you aren't interested, feel
free to delete.
the heidelberg project of detroit, mi needs all the help it can get. in
the recent years, this project, envisioned by artist tyree guyton, has
done a lot for the inner cities of detroit. guyton, who once lived in a
crime ridden part of town, finally became sick of the crack houses and
prostitution going on in his neighborhood, and decided one day to start
painting the crack house next door with polka-dots. when the news of
the polka-dot house grew, people started driving by to see it, and the
crack dealers finally left because of all of the attention. over the
past 12 years, guyton has proceded to paint all of the condemned house
in his area with the symbolism and societal concerns of our time. from
a rosa parks 1955 school bus, to an oj house to raise the awarenss of
the travesty of the oj simpson case, to decorating the trees with
stuffed animals for the lost childhoods of the children of detroit, this
neighborhood says it all about social awareness.
the detroit city council, however, has been protesting it, and in 1991,
bulldozed 3 of guyton's art houses in. and he has until august of this
year to do something about it, or the rest of the street will be
condemned as well. guyton's project has given inner city kids something
to do. they paint with him, learn that living in poverty doesn't have
to be dirty and crime-ridden, and that there is life beyond the streets.
i am not asking you guys for money or anything...just simply go to the
web-site and see what can be donated. time (if you live in michigan or
thereabouts) paint, old computer accessories, rakes, lawnmowers, a
letter of support...anything to help the heidelberg project stay in
detroit. these kids need a safe place to live, and this man's life as
an artist has given so much to those less fortunate than we.
visit the heidelberg project at http://www.heidelberg.org
the images take a minute or two to load, but it is so cool and well
worth it.
thanks and peace-

review of canberra show - 6 march 1998
my god. i'm still totally on a high. i can't believe how good last
night was - it was especially wonderful because my sister fiona, our
friend rachel and i got up on stage for ctf!!! we got down to the
stage as soon as the lights dimmed and held onto our sign that read
"can we sing ctf with y'all?" until the appropriate moment. this was
a really special show for me because i had my brother and sisters
with me who hadn't seen them before and were so excited. i mentioned
a long time ago on the list how psyched they were about this. it was
worth every minute to see the looks on their faces when they finally
got to see amy and emily. i didn't get a set list this time but i did
get a pick direct from amy after i shook her hand. :-)
anyway, someone else will hopefully post the set list but i have to
say it had included quite a few older favourites that were so great
to hear. prince of darkness, secure yourself, land of canaan, i don't
wanna know. only one song from nis though - hammer and nail. i don't
think they did any others. we tried desperately to tell amy to play
world falls but it wasn't gonna happen. i think one of the greatest
performances came during the encore, cut it out/wish you were here.
my friends and family who were with me were totally blown away by how
amy goes off. i don't think they were expecting to see her just rip
herself in two the way she does. i have a family full of amy devotees
although my brother thinks emily is so incredibly talented and
beautiful. the guy has taste!
and here's something really touching...i'm sharing a room with my
brother keith at the moment. he's 18. as we were trying to fall
asleep, still bursting with adrenalin, keith described to me what he
learned from them which i thought was just amazing. he said he could
see that amy and emily are so real and so passionate and that they
encouraged him to want to focus on the big, important things in life
and to work hard at being himself, being honest and real and to give
passion and energy to whatever he does. i was stunned. such insight
from someone so young. after being on stage, that just really made
the night for me. i felt proud of passing my obsession onto my
younger siblings.
being on stage was incredible. i know i'm focussing more on this
than the show but can you blame me? i basically forgot about
attempting to sing eventually. all i wanted to do was muck around
with amy. fee and i got to see her guitar playing right up close, to
see that old black guitar we love so much and to dance around with
her. she kept coming over to us, beaming at us and making us feel
really part of the moment. at the end we shook her hand, said thank
you and she called us special people. she was so warm. fee said that
when she shook emily's hand it was less of a shake, more of a warm
clutching of her hand. emily looked right at her and held her hand in
a really genuine way. she took a moment to do that properly rather
than just quickly grabbing fee's hand and walking off stage. that
kind of stuff is the stuff you remember.
ok, enough rambling. fee and rachel want to say a few quick words....
i'm leaving australia tomorrow. this has been the perfect way to end
my time here before going away. :-)
helen
hey, meeting the indigo girls was the most exiting time of my life,
amy held my hand and it felt like it was going to go forever. i also
held emily's hand, wow!!! i'll never forget this, ever.
fiona.
it's rachel here. hi y'all :) man last nights concert was the most
amazing concert i've ever been to in my life. galileo (my fave) was definately
one of the songs that really got to the audience. amy had sooo much
energy it was unbelievable. then when emily finally signalled for us
to get up on stage with them. we flipped out and ran to the spare
microphone. it was really hard to hear ourselves singing but meh, it
didn't matter :) then after we got to shake their hands!!! (as you've
already heard) and we got picks! they the nicest girls :) well, i'll
shut up now. man it was unbelievable! :) :) :)

hi everybody, i found an article that dedicated a full column to a & e!
it's called "strong female presence felt in glama's 'album' nominations" by
gregg shapiro, the texas triangle (march 5, 1998).
i've reprinted *part* of the article, without permission. the rest of the
article reviews catie curtis, kd lang, and me'shell ndegeocello. sorry if
it's already been posted:
"on the glama-nominated shaming of the sun (epic), indigo girls amy ray and
emily saliers demonstrate how far they have come in the past eight years.
like fellow openly gay performers on major labels such as etheridge and lang,
the indigo girls no longer sing to an obscure object of their dual desires.
in the song 'shame on you,' they sing 'come on down to chicano city park/wash
your blues away/the beautiful ladies walk on by/you know i never know what to
say.'
'get out the map,' a song about the way friends tend to scatter themselves all
over the place is extraordinary, as is 'it's alright' (which contains the
lines 'and it's alright if you hate that way/hate me cause i'm different/hate
me cause i'm gay/truth of the matter come around some day'). ray and saleirs
also get background musical support from such well-respected musicians as lisa
germano, michelle malone, and sara lee, to name a few.
punk godmother patti smith (who is enjoying a resurgence in popularity) seems
to have had an impact on the indigo girls. her spirit is felt on songs such
as 'shed your skin,' 'scooter boys,' and 'cut it out.' and just wait until you
hear the songs 'leeds' (with saliers' stunning piano work), 'hey kind friend,'
and the strings on 'caramia.' they will undoubtedly renew any jaded
listeners' faith in the power of the ballad."

subject: oh, the many meanings of indigo
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
hi--
i was having a conversation with my housemate the other day about ig, and i
told her how they got their name (amy finding "indigo" in the dictionary,
etc.), and she was a little disappointed (as i was when i learned of the
origin of their name) that the name doesn't have any big deep significance.
i think it's a very catchy name, and it seems like the kind of name that
would have an underlying meaning. so, i just thought i'd share the
"indigo" interpretations that people have told me because i think they're
rather amusing:
--my housemate thought that since the chemical indigo is what they use to
dye blue jeans, the girls were using this blue jean reference to make some
social statement about how they are just down to earth, honest working
citizens--interesting. kind of a stretch, but interesting.
--someone else thought that "indigo" was a reference to their homeland
(like they grow indigo in georgia or something).
--here's a funny one--this person insisted that "indigo" was some parallel
to blues music if some of their influences might have come from the blues.
like their music isn't blues--it's *indigo*. :)
--i actually drew a big blank before i knew what their name meant. my
curiosity about that is actually one of the things that made me start doing
web searches on ig, and it's how i discovered the ig faq and this list. :)
:) :)
anyway, sorry if that was boring for y'all, but i'd be really interested in
hearing any other funny indigo interpretions you've had. anyone have any?
leslie
p.s. even though they say the name was chosen simply because it sounded
cool, i still tend to think that there had to be *something* going on in
their heads about the word indigo when they chose it for their name. even
though it doesn't have a specific meaning, it surely must have some kind of
subtle significance.

bad news for all you ohio and midwest people,
the witt ig show is no more. what happened was there was a double
booking, wittenberg and a charity event. so the girls are going to play
the charity event instead. nevermind that our date was on music cal and
some other date pages. nevermind that the contract was signed. the ig
show here is no more.
sorry if you're dissappointed. trust me, i feel like someone slapped me
in the face. my hopes were up, i had my plans, a bunch of you were
planning on driving here to see them, but it is no more.
they're supposidly going to come next fall. maybe in october. but i
wanted them now! this is not my fault (i am not even on the programming
committee) so if you're extremely pissed off at wittenberg, please don't
e-mail me to flame me. there's nothing i can do about this. i wish i
could, but don't we all wish that we could get the girls to play when and
where we want them?
again, this sucks!

hi all,
david has already posted an amazing account of this concert, even down to
amy's soc....what a memory !!
i must be getting old...i was right up front, yet now everything seems like
a blur...it all happened way too fast. the support act honey were very good,
they don't have any cd's yet (bummer).
set list (davids' was close...) but i wrote the songs down on my arm all
night :)...
hammer & a nail
i don't wanna know
power of two
scooter boys
get out the map
hey kind friend

shed your skin

encore:
leeds
(that mystery song sherlyn mentioned)
closer to fine (with honey)
each song was brilliant and although they didn't play any of the songs i
hold most dear, it was a huge rush as the next song started and the
recognition of the song, you couldn't help but just smile and sing all night
- which is excatly what i did :)
amy only broke one string. tickles my fancy when she breaks strings and i
love on the video where amy is trying to figure out how many strings she's
broken in her career......i like watching that over and over.
can't remember which song, but before they began amy walked over to emily
running her hand vigorously through her hair and says to emily "..i gotta
wash my hair..." emily and those of us close enough to hear just cracked up
at this..
the audience really reacted to wish you were here, although i guess from
being on the list i wasn't surprised to hear it, i think everyone in the
audience sang the lyric "two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl"....
amazing to see them both again larger than life, they were wonderful and i
enjoyed all their conversation, they have a wonderful sense of humour, which
kept the audience laughing. i think i was dumbstruck for the first half of
the show, i keep getting flashblacks from various times throughout the
night...suffice to say i look pretty silly walking around grinning to myself.
anyway it was the best night of my life. i can't wait for them to come back
again. maybe i'll have to consider doing an american tour...
also i wanted to say that i thought the diversity of people in the audience
was great!

hi all,
i'm sending out a desperate plea for help. the wittenburg cancellation has
broken my heart. i know kentucky's ticket lottery starts tonight at 5:00.
there's just no way i can get from columbus to lexington for the lottery,
although, i have to admit i have actually thought about it. is there anyone
out there going to the lottery who could get 2 extra tix???? i'd be happy
to tack on extra $ for the trouble. i'll only be able to check my email
once today, so if anyone can, just get 'em. there's no doubt that i want to
go. i'd send payment 1st thing tomorrow. "please, please, please, let me,
let me, let me, get what i want....this time",,,,(oops, sorry for the little
lapse into the smiths, must be the blues about the bad news).
thanks for reading/helping!!!

sara will not meet fans before or after any gig, or at least that's how's it
used to be...seems there was this guy who was a wee bit compulsive/obsessive
and claimed possession was about him, he committed suicide, it was a sad
tale. if you get into the show and see kathy from nettwerk, she will forward
stuff to sara. i got a autograph from her in the mail that way!

now for the big item: news travels fast! not even an hour
after my post about the new atlanta ncdm organization, one
of the founders emailed me, and after speaking with her on the
phone, she agreed to write a note letting us all know exactly
what the situation is. her note is attached, and i'll also post
it to the web site. please read it, it's important to our decisions.
*******************
hello,
greetings from the north american neighborhood association, an atlanta
affiliate of the national commission for democracy in mexico (ncdm). it has
come to our attention that our group has recently been discussed in this
forum, and we'd like to clear up a few misunderstandings, and otherwise
elaborate on our group's purpose and direction.
we are a very young group. we have only had two meetings. we make collective
decisions, and have no officers or board of directors. the maintenance costs
of the group (voice mail, po box, rental of meeting space, etc.) are being
borne solely by individual members of the association. until last month, we
existed in the virtual meeting space of e-mail and websites. we do not yet
have non profit (ie: 501 (c)) status.
although we certainly could use any and all donations made to our group, we
wish to be very clear: while both amy and emily support the work of the
zapatistas, the ncdm, and, we believe, *all* their local affiliates, neither
of the indigo girls is a member of our fledgling association. as of yet,
there are no other atlanta affiliates of the ncdm, but our existence does
not preclude the affiliation of other local groups with the ncdm (which is
why we say "an affiliate").
as does any local affiliate of the ncdm, our group supports:
non-collaboration or participation with the party-state of mexico as well as
agreement to support the basic platform of the zapatistas, both in the
united states as well as mexico. this platform demands the rights of all
peoples to employment, housing, food, land, health, education, liberty,
democracy, justice, independence, culture, information and peace.
our group will focus on both local and international issues of human rights,
the environment, and the true implementation of "liberty and justice for
all." our first two actions are great combinations of this dual focus: we
are the sponsors of the atlanta stop on the pastors for peace caravan that
is delivering aid to the chiapas region in april; and, we are planning, for
late march, a presentation on women in chiapas, hopefully to be held at a
local women's college here in atlanta. in the future, we hope to work with
existing atlanta activists and organizations to further their agendas of
environmentalism, immigrant rights, indigenous rights, women's issues and so
on; this local work will parallel the work we do on those same issues for
the ncdm.
as with any non-profit organization, money always is an issue. in order to
raise much-need funds for the cause, we are organizing a benefit concert for
the spring featuring local musicians. please understand: the need for help,
in any form, is great, and almost certainly is not fully met by any
combination of resources currently available. the ncdm needs people like
you, who are concerned about the world we live in, who are concerned about
the treatment of marginalized peoples, who are concerned about the human
rights deserved by every person of every race and class and sex and age.
the ncdm, and every local affiliate, need volunteers of time, of meeting
space, even of office equipment. we need publicity. we need logistical and
technical support. we need donations of food, of clothing, of basic first
aid supplies for the people displaced by the mexican government's continuing
war against the people of chiapas. if, as a group, you decide to make a
monetary donation to our organization or to the ncdm, let us assure you, not
a dime will be wasted. additionally, we would be happy to act as an
intermediary between your group and the ncdm, if that is where you choose to
"spend" your money.
thank you so much for the opportunity to discuss our organization and the
ncdm. please, stay informed, and stay active: every time you share
information about what is happening in mexico with an office worker at the
water cooler, you *have* made a difference; every time you write a letter or
forward an e-mail to a government official, you *have* made a difference;
and every time you make an effort to pick up a newspaper or scour the
internet for information, you *have* made a difference.
for more information, please visit the ncdm website:
http://www.igc.org/ncdm/
or our local affiliate's website:
http://www.mindspring.com/~teddie/
if you want peace, work for justice.
gracias por todo,
north american neighborhood association

hey,
i've seen this asked more than once, along with all the answers and
suggestions that came of it. but i never paid any mind since i thought i
wouldn't be doing it anytime soon . . . so this is what my neglect gets me.
sorry about that.
basically i want to know what's the best, most affordable equipment i should
purchase in order to have a decent recording. the musician i want to tape is
mostly solo, acoustic, with a backup guy who plays a variety of guitars:
acoustic, electric, mandolin, dobro . . . not ear-splittingly loud.
atmosphere is usually a coffeshop, bookstore, or small bar. small, noisy
places. i can sit anywhere i like so i also need to know where the best
place to park my ass is: near to the singer herself, or a speaker, or medium
distance, central etc.
i just popped into a radio shack to look at what they had. pretty much their
own brand of recorders, cheap looking. around 80 bucks for a stereo one.
suggestions for brand names, serial #s, special features, things to avoid or
insist upon, price ranges, places to go? anything else that i should know
that i haven't thought of what be very much appreciated.
t'anks,
otts

howdy folks,
i just read deb's post listing three news shows this spring. i must say,
i have no idea what or where nashville river stages is. maybe we're getting
some new music festival or something. i know that the summer lights festival
that used to take place the last week or may/first week of june is no more,
because the organizers went bankrupt.
so, i have never heard of nashville river stages, and i haven't heard anything
about any new festival coming to town or venue opening up. but, you can
bet i'm going to do my best to find out the scoop on this before then!!!!
i'm just thrilled that they're coming back to music city! :-d

hi everyone. i was wondering what time tickets go on sale to the public
for the dickinson show. i really need to get a ticket. it will be my first

i have to put up with my big sister for a while if i want a ride to the
show. oh well, that is a small price to pay to really, truly see the girls
for my first time. so, if anyone can give me info on what time tickets go
on sale, i will be very happy. i must be at that show. if i can get
tickets i might just be nice to all the fake people in my school. anyway,
i'm getting off subject. sorry.

hi y'all,
this is my first post to the list and i've really enjoyed everybody else's
posts so far.
the girls were here in brisbane on the 28th febuary and were brilliant.
amy was mesmerising singing romeo and juliet. in between one of the songs
emily and amy said to the audience " we're headed down to sydney
tomorrow. it'll be our first parade." that brought heaps of laughter
from the audience.
for any aussie fans who have foxtel, they were on the drum music show on
monday night 9/3/98, its repeated this saturday 14/3/98 3 times. amy did
all the talking. emily said like four words the entire interview(i
counted). e looked like she had overindulged the night before, she didn't
smile once and was wearing yellow lensed sunglasses and it looked like she
kept resting her eyes:). did anyone else see it, what did they think?
amy was great though, really bright and happy and passionate about
their causes.
it was such a buzz knowing they were here in australia. does anyone know
if or when they left australia?

i was doing some research at the library today and got
sidetracked...sorry if this was on the list a couple of years ago when i
wasn't, but i figure its a *really* obscure magazine, so it might not
have been mentioned. anyhoo, here is the quote, in all its glory,
reprinted without permission, yadda yadda from "popular music and
society," vol. 20.1 spring 1996, p203:
(in a review by george h. lewis of joan baez's "ring them bells":
"...songs like "jessie"...and "lily of the west"...are very welcome
indeed- as is baez's version of bob dylan's "don't thin k twice" (with
great blues phrasing from the indigo girls) and the set's crown jewel,
amy ray's "welcome me," a stunning song of mythic proportions about the
hispanic presence in los angeles that can deservedly take its place in
the baez pantheon as a true classic."
very complementary!
btw, could anyone who lives in georgia tell me whether its stupid to try
camping in the nw area of the state (cloudland canyon) next week? i
don't mind camping in the cold, but if we're going to float away, i'd
just as well find another state...

indigo girls:ten years of underground
indigo girls ddcmv 49195 / dvd / published 1998
our price: $24.98 (special order)
what is it? live at the uptown lounge and watershed are listed separately,
so i don't think they just got the title mixed up. also, this was
supposedly published this year. any help will be greatly appreciated.
i've been off the list for awhile, so i apologize if this has already been

content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
hi gang...
gosh, it sure is quiet around here since the news only list started up! did
that many folks really leave??? if so, come back!!!!!
anyway, i just wanted to let you all know that i updated the look of the
tour archive site <http://ftp.wi.net/~dreiser/ig/archivehome.html>. the
front page now contains concert news and rumblings, and i reworked the
dates section so the concert listings are easier to scroll through. i also
removed the boot link because i just don't have time to maintain it.
one thing i really want to develop better this time around is the "images"
section. if you have any original ig photos (meaning you took them with
your own camera and didn't just steal them from some other website) that
you would like featured on the page, please let me know because i want to
start a good collection. i'm even pondering an "image of the week" type of
deal with all sorts of glory being bestowed on the person who took the
winning shot. like i said, e-me if you have stuff you want to offer to the
area.
the same goes with links. if you have an ig-related site that you feel
should be linked from my site, write me with the info.
that is all...

okay a quick question, my first bonified ig quandary. i was listening to the

then i thought about the 2500 curfews version they say " . . . on the raod

was because of the venue they were playing or what? i am just curious to see
if anyone else noticed the same thing. either that or if i am a little slow
at picking up things.

content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

wow, it's quiet on the ol list now that spring break is here. kinda like
being on vacation... but without the suitcase and sunburn...
this short article about "new mongrels - big cup of empty" is from the
most recent issue of _creative_loafing_ - _atlanta_:
(copied without permission, etc)
creative loafing - atlanta - mar 11, 1998 issue
music / local releases
by gregory nicoll
(excerpt)
daemon records has just released the second cd by new
mongrels. the floating ensemble of mongrel musicians --
which includes members of the indigo girls, cowboy envy,
big fish ensemble, and assorted scene stars such as michelle
malone, caroline aiken, gerard mchugh, chris griffin and rob
gal -- is led by haynes brooke, who continues a tradition
started by his great-grandfather, a civil war survivor who
founded the smythe county mongrels society with an 1866
charter dedicating the group to "the joyful promotion of
song and rhythmic utterance." (haynes thus claims -- with
some justification -- that his band is over 130 years old.)
entitled "big cup of empty," this new mongrels album was
recorded in seattle, los angeles and atlanta, and it contains
12 of haynes' original songs, most of which are given a
distinctly americana feel by the constant presence of lap
steel, banjo and mandolin.

voting is still on! let's hear from the rest of you.
i was reviewing all the information people have sent
me regarding past birthday projects, and have come up
with a set of ideas about this one, and i'd like to get
feedback from you.
1. anyone want to create a cool certificate / check
that we can give amy? i could put submissions up on
the web page for people to look at. obviously this
is a bit preliminary, as i'm going to give everyone until
monday to get votes in, but people can start on designs.
2. as opposed to including a stack of notes from each
of us, how about we hold a writing contest and give her
the ones we like best? (setting myself up for another
round of collecting votes...)
3. on a more personal note, my world wide activism
web page is in dire need of a cool logo. anyone
interested? i haven't found a shareware graphics
program that i like yet, not to mention my lack of
artistic ability! i'd like something that moves (i love the blue
ribbon one -- http://members.tripod.com/~wwactivism/index.html)
but nothing too obnoxious...
please email me, or post to the list, with your ideas.

here's the first update/ announcement re: music midtown festival in
atlanta -- ig are scheduled to play on may 1:
subject: music midtown update #1
<cut>
we will be announcing the talent line up on march 13th. you can get a
complete listing via our website at:
http://www.musicmidtown.com
late confirmations will be added on a regular basis so make sure you
check back.
the biggest change you will notice in the programming is the addition
of a large stage situated under a giant tent. this stage will feature
everything from polka and rockabilly to swing styled big band and
internationally flavored music.
<cut>
due to the overwhelming demand for tickets that we experienced last
year, there will be a limited number of tickets available and we
encourage that everyone purchase tickets early. tickets go on sale
friday, march 20th at all ticketmaster locations. we will also be
selling tickets with no service charge at the cotton club and at the
roxy theatre in buckhead on nights when shows are featured at these
venues. you can check out the show schedules for these venues via
our concert website at:
http://www.consopro.com.
many of you know that this year will be our last year at the site
(peachtree and west peachtree and between 10th and 12th streets) that
we have called home for the past 5 years as construction of a hi-rise
will begin immediately following the festival.

happy day to everyone,
i've just discovered dar williams. what the hell was i waiting for??? her
song when i was a boy is pretty much the story of my life, hehehe. now i'm
the best female athlete in my school. that is not conciet talking. anyway,
my mom just made reservations for a bed and breakfast in newport for the
nff. she rules! if i get tickets, i'm going to my first ig concert next
month. my birthday is like next week sometime, so my license and car will
soon be mine. the other ig fans in my school don't believe me when i tell
them that amy and emily were never a couple. i'm showing them that curve
magazine interview with amy tomarrow. i love my track team. i love life.

okay, to clear up a few misconceptions, i have found through other fellow
listees (thanks) that both athens and austin are in the song. i probably
missed the athens part in the rop version because it isn't emphasized as much
as it is in the 2500 curfews version. i stand corrected!!!

south by southwest music panels announced
austin, texas--(business wire)--march 11, 1998--the south by southwest
1998 panels program features a wide array informative discussions and lively
debates.
kicking off the 12th annual sxsw on thursday, march 19th, will be the
jesus of cool himself, nick lowe, famed pub rocker, new wave impresario,
producer and songwriter. following the keynote is our annual a&r panel,
featuring a stellar array of top a&r personnel. other thursday panels include
"who killed bobby fuller?", examining the texas legend, with bobby's brother
randy and fuller-phile marshall crenshaw. our artists' panel features a
diverse lineup of talent: billy bragg, kathy mattea, robyn hitchcock, roddy
bottum (imperial teen, faith no more), amy ray (indigo girls), and jerry jeff
walker. film directors jonathan demme and richard linklater join our
soundtrack panel, and the aftermath of the increasing use of rock music in
advertising is discussed by a lineup which includes writer dave marsh and
musician jon langford (mekons, waco brothers). plus, a look at the current
cutting edge during "what's next for electronica?"
on friday, capitol records ceo/president gary gersh will be interviewed,
and two hypothetical role-playing panels will be featured, "how record
companies and artists torture each other," hosted by attorney donald passman,
and a second panel hosted by in the city mastermind tony wilson, who will not
let his panel in on subject ahead of time. there will be workshops on how to
get the most out of an interview, and a continuing legal education seminar,
where registered entertainment attorneys can earn cle credit for no extra
charge. unsigned bands from the previous night's showcases will be critiqued
on "you'll be a hit in europe if you...", and you'll meet the teenage critics
who make up the 'bomb squad'. plus, a great lineup of songwriters in the
round, including peter holsapple and alejandro escovedo, on "songwriters
appear in daylight!"
saturday panels open with dj's spinning their tales on "125 bpm but who's
counting?", us congressman lloyd doggett joins the discussion of "legislative
agendas". talent bookers and hosts from david letterman, conan o'brien, austin
city limits and pbs' sessions talk about "performing on television." you can
watch the fur fly as the merits of paul mccartney's music are debated on "so
is paul dead?", featuring musicians tommy keene and vic chesnutt. and our
annual lineup of producers includes brendan o'brien, hugh padgham, craig
street, and gus dudgeon.
all this and much, much more, plus a full slate of demo listening
sessions (where you can experience how your music is perceived by others) and
our one-on-one mentor sessions, where an amazing array of professionals can
help you with all manner of hard-to-get advice. don't miss the 1998 sxsw
conference! for more information, check out our website at www.sxsw.com

hi list,
this is not really igc, but i learned something a few days
ago that i thought might help some of us out. i know most
listers probably already know all this, but it seems there
are several who are still 'in the dark' like i was until recently.
i'll get to the point:
when listing a url for people to visit, all you have to do
to make it a hyperlink (one that you can just click on
& your browser will take you there) is type the web address
in its entirety. for example, if i type: www.pollstar.com
you'll notice that it is not highlighted in blue, so it can't
take you directly to the site when you click on it.
but, if i type http://www.pollstar.com, it is "clickable"
and will lead you to the desired destination. heck, you can
even type http://www. and it will *look* like a hyperlink,
even though it won't lead you anywhere. i don't know exactly
how this works, but i know it has something to do with the
http:// part. (see how that works?! pretty cool, huh?)
anyway, please don't flame me for this; i really feel there's
been *much worse* nigc in the history of this list. i'm
just trying to help out a little. as much as we on this list
pass urls around to each other, i thought it would be helpful
if everyone knew how to make it easier to follow them.
(it really sucks to have to copy those long addresses down
on paper!)
sorry if this post makes anyone mad, i just thought it might
make our lives a teensy bit easier in some little way.

first off, i want to send kudos to michelle malone. i ordered merchandise
from her (a check by mail, mind you) on feb. 28. the stuff arrived
yesterday *and* she included a personal thank you for the support! that's
a week and a half. i am so impressed. contrast that with rcam, to which
i sent an order on jan. 9. no merchandise, no notice on why it is taking
so long, nothing. of course, i expected this, but with michelle's speedy
delivery i became even more annoyed with the lousy service provided by
rcam.
and in other exciting michelle-related news, i found relentless and the
big black bag cd single at a used music store here. i had never been
there before and i don't really know why i stopped in. but you can bet, i
am happy i did. and i found a promo copy of big cup of empty!!!! you
probably don't realize how psyched i am about it...
that's all. have a nice day everyone,

ok, here's the deal. i'm supposed to write a paper for my "music of the

a culture. sound confusing? yeah, i know. but, of course, i'm choosing to
write about ig and their little following of extreeeemely devoted fans
(read: every one of you fine people). i mean, speaking from personal
experience, it's just a plain strange phenomenon when you go to concerts
and keep seeing the same people over and over again. so, what i'm looking
for is if anyone has any amusing, entertaining, or even really dull
anecdotes about meeting other ig fans, how you've made new friends through
ig, how you've made your friends ig fans, anything. please e-mail
privately with them. oh yeah, here's the catch, the paper's due tomorrow
(just another fine example of how i function), and i will be composing it
tonight, so reply quickly if you plan to. thank you for your time.

wow. hello? anybody out there?! i feel like i'm floating around in
outer space. ;) so, uhhh....the list is really hopping these days, huh!?
okay, here's me..."yeah! i'm on spring break...i actually have *time* to
do e-mail...i can give my little computer the time it deserves!" and
there's no one saying anything good. :( rats.
anyhow...i'm so disappointed these days because the girls are dodging
ohio like the plague...man -- they need to come back. :( found out
today that the michigan shindig is 300 freakin' dollars...what's up with
that?! i think that uhhh...if i had 300 dollars i'd buy myself a new
guitar, but that's neither here nor there. :) anyway....i'm now coming
to terms with the fact that i won't be seeing the girls till this
summer. the carlisle, pa show is just *too* damned far and it's on my
busiest class day ta' boot. :( despite all of these crappy happenin's,
i'm looking forward to lilith again this year. ;) that happy thought
will keep me from fallin' into the depths of despair. :) i know you're
feeling my pain too, steph -- i guess we should just sulk together.
not an interesting post, i know...someone needed to say something. ;)
okay people...yeah...i just thought of something else -- the cover tape
(yeah, it still exists...those of you who don't know about it, please
don't e-mail me! i always get these messages..."i haven't heard about
this! what is it?!" i'll post when it's done ;). i've been waiting for
more bios but i guess that's all i'm gonna get. it should be compiled
within the next week.:) i'm sure you've all been waiting :)
a'ight...that's my lengthy post. ;) thanks for listening. :)
later dudes.

hey kind friends:
although it was a bit delayed, i did ultimately receive my branch tape
for the lilith boot, but only after i had told some folks that i didn't have

wanted to offer again that i do have it and will boot or trade with you if you
are interested. email me privately.
100 min tape is needed. the sound quality for this boot i would rate as very
good, and the side that was taped right off the cbc broadcast is excellent.

just wanted to say that i saw commonbond play last night (caroline aiken
was in the area too, but i couldn't make it to her show in time), and
that they're worth listening to if they play your area. they are an
acoustic duo that plays mostly original material, as well as covers
(they played shame on you, one headlight, and a few bars of freebird for
an obnoxious guy in the audience). they have a great stage presence, and
a few songs that are ten times better live than on their cd, which is
pretty good too.
for ig content: a friend of mine showed up halfway through their first
set, and came over to ask who they were. i said "commonbond", and she
said,"oh, i guess the name 'indigo girls' was taken already, huh?" which
cracked me up for a few minutes.
anyway, here's wishing everybody a good week- i'm leaving tomorrow night
to drive all night for georgia...the nice people at the state park where
we are planning to camp assured us that the weather wasn't going to be
too bad this week...i'll be back next weekend if we don't get washed
away. oh, and if we can convince my cousins to let ten scruffy smelly
campers crash their house on monday night, i'm gonna try to make it to
eddie's attic's open mic...
later,

also, i am working on compiling a list of cd's that contain songs that either
amy or emily or amy and emily have contributed to. for example - emily on don
conoscenti-boxes of bones, amy on the vidalias-stayin in the doghouse, amy &
emily on caroline aiken-butler field, etc., etc. any help would be
appreciated, and i'd be glad to share my list when i'm done with whoever is

i have a question here....
i understand that from out of nowhere everyone on this list seems to
have fallen deeply *in love* with amy and emily, and i am getting
accustomed to it all, but this statement bothered me....
> last year, my friend tried to convince me that amy had just gotten

> doesn't usually change...)
i have many gay and lesbian friends who are married....so, does this
mean that if you are homosexual, marriage is out of the question???
if this is the case, i know lots of long time, religiously married gay
men and lesbians who are going to be pretty bitter.....
*drops in $5.00 worth....plink plink*
just curious for a logical answer...i thought marriage was about based
in love, not sexual orientation....oh well, must be my bad.....

well it depends on who's defining the word marriage and exactly how many rights
you want to enjoy as a result of that union. according to most of our 50 states
same sex couples cannot wed "legally" with the same rights as straight couples
(i think alaska just voted down some ban on this though and is hawaii's
favorable ruling still alive?). anyway, i would say "technically" you are right
karrie, but the thing is that i'm sure it was implied in most of those previous
posts that the term "married" meant "married to a man" (that whole adrienne rich
compulsary heterosexuality thing). and i think maybe the fact that the
government refuses to respect gay marriages as legal and socially valid unions
makes a lot of us (but not everyone of course) reject the particular term
"marriage" (like how many gays and lesbians refer to "commitment ceremonies"
rather than "weddings" regardless of the similarities or lack thereof).
anyway, i figure i should get to some igc before my post gets zapped for being
too far off the topic. thanks to the wonderful cheryle de san fransisco, i'm
finally getting to relive all the west coast fun (even the shows i didn't see)
this past jan/feb. i now officially have a recording of amy screaming the same
thing at me over and over like 8 million times. yay! so the thing is...i'm
wondering what the quality is like on the rest of the boots floating around the
list. can someone do me a favor and drop me a note with a little summary of the
sound quality on the 2 warfield shows that got treed a few weeks ago?
thanks....

this one may require some thought. the question is: what indigo girls
would you most like to see covered, and by whom. you can also answer the
converse; that is to say: what songs would you like to see the indigo
girls cover? i wish i could say that after i had thought about it for 2
weeks i had come up with some really good ones, but i still have to
consolidate my thoughts on this one, so everyone, go to it!

i really can't see many of the igs songs making good covers by other
bands, unless they were radically altered. the interweaving vocals in
most of the songs leave many traditional 3-5 piece rock bands out. i'd
love to see springsteen do a cover of land of caanan.
i think the girls would do a helluva job with rem's nightswimming, and
springsteen's darkness on the edge of town.

i thought it was a strange thread, but after thinking awhile i do have an
answer for it. a song i would like to have indigo girls cover is generation
x, but as far as i know they are not in that category or are they/ i do not
have music for it and whatever music they put behind it would be great,
because i think everything they sing is great. if you would like me to type
the lyrics up and send them to the list let me know and i will start trying
to find them. i miss placed them somewhere. missy

subject: thanks to everybody re : coming out
i just thought i'd send this message to the list - just to say
thanks to everybody who sent me messages of support for coming out
as a bi.
i think what a few people have said is very true - being bi is
eprfectly normal for everybody, and it just depends on whether you
acknowledge it or not. by acknowledging it, and admitting to myself
and to friends (which includes everybody on this list - or at least until
somebody flames me ;-)!!), it makes me feel more at ease with who i
am as a person.
regarding coming out to my parents - i don't think i want to admit
something like this to them just yet. as they haven't really got a
personal involvement in my love life, and it won't affect my
relationship with them, i don't think it's something i ever have to
tell them, if i don't choose to. i think i'm just happy letting
friends know at the moment - i guess i'm a bit selfish, as it gives
me a lot of joy being able to tell people....
well, just to finish, i'd like to add something i saw on a cd (run
dmc, if anybody's wondering....)
sm:)le
thanks y'all!!!!

okay. so. i was listening to this eugene oregon 4-4-97 boot today while
running with my great
new pair of headphones that make it sound just like i'm at the concert.
and they start scooter boys, and then somebody in the audience makes a
sound, and emily says, "i hate that sound. never do that again." and amy
says something that sounds like "newt. newt. newt. newt." and emily
says "scared now, girls?" was anybody there that can enlighten me to
exactly what was happening? thanks. oh, and somebody make the concert
gods smile on me again. make the girls come somewhere near virginia while
i'm still there (and it's not allowed to be on a day when i have to sing
in my own concert.)

hey folks,
i need a few folks to head up one tape tree each, for
the australian tapes. the wonderful jude hunter is
going to handle two of the trees, but i need folks to
look after the rest of them. (i was going to do it
myself but it would be so much easier for everyone to
get someone in the us to do it.)
if you're interested in helping, and:
a) you're in america or canada
b) you've got a good quality tape deck
c) you know what heading up a tape tree entails (i don't
want to dump it on any poor unsuspecting souls),
then drop me a line at sherlyn@fl.net.au and we'll
talk.
thanks folks,

ok, i was torn about posting this, as it doesn't pertain to much of
anything, although there was that thing about one of the girls getting
married ;) anyhoo, sorry to all who don't want to read this. i was
reading the paper today and there was an article about how a methodist
pastor in nebraska is being put on trial by the church because he
performed a wedding for two lesbians. the church says that it is against
policy, while the pastor said he was just attending to the couple's
spiritual needs. anyway, i guess that is another one to watch. sorry

i was looking through the most recent issue of sojourners, and i came across
this notice:
the international service for peace (sipaz) seeks volunteers to join a team in
chiapas, mexico. volunteers must have spanish fluency, a background in
nonviolent peacemaking or conflict resolution, and be comfortable working with
faith-based groups. sipaz provides room and board and basic expenses for
volunteers in the field. contact sipaz, po box 2415, santa cruz, ca 95063;

you'll note that my subject line indicates that there is some igc in this. amy
and emily have a lot of ties with chiapas and the conflict there. if you have
any of the skills mentioned above, please consider this oportunity to use them
in a way that i'm sure the girls would love to see you use them by helping this
nonviolent conflict resolution group.
and <shameless plug for school> if you're interested in learning more about

good or bad it doesn't matter. i give an alright writing, but i got stuff a
lot better like my true cowboy sonnet and my native american sonnet. since
publishing places don't seem to be recognizing my works i thought of
putting them together in there on book. i have a few poems about gay issues
and some are essays i was wondering if anyone knows any place i can send
them i would appreciate the address. missy
generation x
growing up in a time when family's grew apart. parents got divorced and
children were split. family values gone, but hope was still there.
chorus
generation x what will we do? do we stand and fight for our place or do we
stand back and let babyboomers and matures think we are nothing, nothing.
no we don't we will fight our own way. we will show the world we are not

hello luvvies
sorry for the bw, but this is fun i think. sigc to follow...
i'd like to make an appeal to the vast collective wisdom of this list for
songs, music, and musicians who address feminist issues... which includes all
types of oppression, abuse, and relationships, and whether you agree with the
artist or not. i'm trying to keep it positive, because i could easily write a
depressing paper on exploitation in music, but i'd prefer to write about
strengths. :) this btw is a project in the grand tradition of women's
studies' projects, where i finally learned feminist wasn't a dirty word and i
realized i could learn something in the university besides how to be a white
dead male.
anyway, so far, h's pea brain has come up with (after a quick scan of her cds):
pj harvey..."man size" (i am furious female)
dar williams..."when i was a boy" (classic ws topic)
then she stopped to listen to the some noise and then...
um...reading ani's lyrics online, i come up with about 75% of her stuff
and i've been pointed toward the riotgrrls, bikini kill, sleater kinney, team
dresch, l7, as well as liz phair, courtney love...what about patti?
doesn't have to be grrls, i know there are some enlightened boytoys too.
recommended websites with lyrics are especially welcome but a mix tape would
be sweet if you feel truly blesed with free time. i've
found http://www.heartless-bitches.com/heartless/books.htm to be an excellent
resource. and now that's the last you'll hear from me till april, unless i
owe you a boot or a mag or a great big gushy girltalk love letter. hee hee.
please help. my undying love and affection is the only real reward, but when
i make my fortune, i'll put you in the credits. this really means a great
deal to me.
okay, the igc, somewhat.
would you characterize any indigo songs as "feminist" in spirit? so many deal
with strictly "relationship/love" that i can't pull out any "feminist"
overtones specifically, although the activism in scooter boys, it's alright,
let it be me, and hammer and a nail are definitely highly motivating. what's
your take on this? anyone interested?
h, recommending in her final breath the diva with ani on the cover (that cd is
very worth it) and the new grrl mag siren...and get yr curves, dolls. that's
it. flame away. some like it hot.

i've been getting updates on this case from rev. mel. if you are not
familiar with him, he's a gay pastor who has been crusading against the
religious right for several years now. he has a great ministry and has
been at the trial with his partner gary providing updates thru his
soulforce outreach. the verdict is not in yet for rev. jimmy creech but
if you'd like to read about it, they just put up a new website:

sorry about the nigc, but this is an important issue to me!

i believe they were getting these really scary, disruptive popping/feedback
sounds from their equipment. it always sounded like amy was saying "mutes,
mutes, mutes" to me though. anyway, this is why amy didn't finish "chiapas
bound"-- the popping destroyed the mood of the song-- so she ripped into "land
of canaan" in the middle of it.

two little girls
you were fresh off the boat
from virginia
i had a year of new york city
under my belt
we met in a dream
we were both nineteen
i remember where we were standing
i remember how it felt
two girls little girls
growing out of their training bras
this little girl breaks furniture
this little girl breaks laws
two girls togeather
just a little less alone
this little girl cried out wee wee wee
all the way home
you were always half crazy
now look at you baby
you make about as much sense as a nursery rhyme
love is a piano
dropped from a four story window
in the wrong place
at the wrong time
and i don't like your girlfriend
i blame her
i never seen one of your lovers
do you so much harm
i loved you first
and you know i would prefer
if she didn't empty her syrings
into your arm
here comes little naked me
padding up to the bathroom door
to find little naked you
slumped on the bathroom floor
so i guess i'll just stand here
with my back against the wall
while you distill your whole life
down to a 911 call
now you bring me your bruises
so i can "ohh" and "ahh" at the display
maybe i am sopposed to make one of my famous jokes
that makes everything ok
or maybe i am supposed to be the handsome prince
who rides up and unties your hands
or maybe i am sopposed to be one of the furrowed-brow friend
who thinks she understands
here comes little naked me
padding up to the bathroom door
to find little naked you
slumped to the bathroom floor
so i guess i'll just stand here
with my back against the wall
while you distill your whole life
down to a 911 call

new cd's to put in my stereo but i got some great photos...2 press kit
photos...one from 1200 curfews and one of a and e in sitting on the
sidewalk in front of a general store (?). and i found a rop tour book!
this was the most exciting because i was talking to my friend about tour
books...and voila i found one! does anyone else have this? it is
great...great photos (even some from when they were little kids!) and
cool stories. wow. okay enough rambling! have an indigo weekend! :)

if anyone is interested there is a good article on winona laduke in the
april issue of the utne reader. :) i'm as poor as frig so i didn't buy
it...i just read it in the store (otherwise i'd post it to the list).
it's only about a page and a half, but at least it's something....it's
an article/interview -- all about her current projects, musical
interests, writing influences, etc...
i'm sure a lot of you feel the way i do about her -- i was completely
blown away after i heard her speak at the harrisburg, pa honor the earth
concert. ;) she's amazing -- and yeah...she was parked next to shannon
and me. mmmm hmmmm...there's nothing like going to leave and seeing
winona laduke standing next to your car.
that's it folks. hope you're interested. ;)
take care,
bethany :)

hi,
in case it hasn't been posted yet the verdict came in a hung jury:
he wasn't convicted. i didn't care too much for headline new's coverage
of the story, i felt like fffocused too much on the negative aspects of
the outcome. for example, they put alot of emphasis on those people who
did not care for the decision and therefore were going to leave the
church. i do feel that it is important for fairness in the media (this
includes even when i disagree with a news piece). even if i would have
disagreed with the outcome of this case, i thought that this station
should have shown more impartiality.
sorry for the rant folks. i'm very tired and have to study for finals.
smiling even i'm exhausted,
