soon, in a couple of days, as soon as i test the links. i was just writing to
tell anybody who has a list but is homeless on the net, still let me know.
there are a few people who i am creating a page to publish their list, and i
will just update it every 2 weeks or something, all you will have to do is
send me an updated list. so if anyone else wants to be a part, lemme know and
forward the list. i will let you all know when it is up.
peace

hey folks-
i just discovered that the eddie's attic web page is off-line (cuz don r
told me).
so i checked... the web server -- hidden water -
<http://www.hidwater.com> is *gone*! it says: "no mas" =:-o
that means that the *best* source (or *one* of the best sources) of ig
information on the web: lifeblood -- setlists, lyrics, tour dates, etc.
is... "no more" :-(

does anyone know who runs (ran) that page? will it be transferred to
another server? can that happen...can pages be transferred, or do they
have to be re-done?
this will greatly increase the amount of posts of people asking for
lyrics, won't it? hmmm...is this the end of the world? are we nearing
the apocalypse? i don't understand!!!! ahhhh
that was our lifeblood!!!
anyway...i'll go to sleep now

hey y'all!
last night (friday) we had a local folk singer to celebrate women's
history month play in our campus pub. anyway, she has the ig (self-titled
album) songbook. i asked her to do "blood and fire" but she didn't know
that one (in retrospect, i think it is better. to me, no one can ever
match amy's passion in "b&f"). but she did do "c2f" she was like "i
am not sure i know all the words" so everyone was like "you do it with
her, karen!" i had everyone in the pub shouting for me to do c2f.
(i guess everyone here knows how i feel about the girls). but i really
didn't want to do it with her because the singer herself never asked me to
go up and i didn't want to take away from her moment. so i sang along
loudly from where i was sitting. it was pretty cool, though, i mean that
everyone (even people i don't know) knows how much i love the girls! :-)
and then tonight i was at a party (after this womyn's voices out loud
event at the local museum. it was awesome! so many wonderful local women
sharing their talents. lots of cool folksingers, and a real treat for me
-- my japanese professor whom i adore did this japanese storytelling
thing!) and the dj played "galileo" for me. i looooove groovin' tothat
song at parties!
okay, it's late and i am being incoherent! good night, y'all!
:-) karen

hi
after working with the folks at hidden water since 1995, the recent closure
of their operations and web site has resulted in the lifeblood site moving
on to a new location. i have gotten everything but the appearances section
back online, and hope to have it finished very soon.
the new location is:
home.earthlink.net/~underdog
i hope to have a pointer page in place at the old site in the near future,
but you may want to save the new address in case it does not work out.
there are a few minor changes to the new site but all the information is
still there, and i will continue to add new information (believe it or not i
still have over 800 articles to type up).
have a good day,
carolyn

since we're on the subject of dreams..i had one the other night that was
sort of odd...
this woman who i have a crush on (*b*) had opened a bookstore. i was
going in there w/my sister and a couple friends to see her, and to check
out the new store. we went into the back looking for her, and someone
had said, oh she's back out front by the chairs! so we went back out
there, and sitting in the chairs were amy and emily!!! immediately i
went over and sat down by them, and asked if they minded! they said no,
and we started talking. amy said that i had really nice hair (i had long
hair for about 10 years and for some reason when i dream my hair is
always long) and asked if she could brush it. i said sure. so amy was
brushing my hair and we were all just sitting there talking. i told them
about cindy and how i had a crush on her, and she was the owner of the
bookstore. it was totally an odd pointless dream! *s*

i was at your concert in harrisburg, pa - honor the earth tour - september
1997. i've been to many of your concert and i can honestly say that was your
best concert. if it
wasn't for that concert i would have never known anything about gpu -three
mile island - and the transporting of nuclear waste. i came home from the
concert wondering what i could do to help, and then it came to me... all i had
to do was make people aware. i must tell at least ten people a day, and i was
wondering if you had any information that you could sent to me. i would
really like to get the information to every one that i can. i will be going to
your concert on april 28, in carisle pa, and i would be able to pick up the
information.
i have also been telling everyone about your concert on april 28, and there
are a lot of people who got tickets because i told them just how awesome you
guys are.
i can't wait you see you guys, and i am really looking forward to get the
information i asked for, i live 10 miles for three mile island, and there a
lot of people who have no idea about what is going on, and they need to know.
thank you very much.

if i remember correctly, floyd at the record store said they expected
the tickets to arrive at the store around the 25th. then, i'm sure,
they had a lot of "sorting" to do to get them all ready to be mailed
out. i'm thinking we should receive them early this next week!
if not, well, we will have to give floyd a little call... won't we?
later,

i love this song. my favorite memories are of my best friend and i driving
in her car to the beach (or any other trip) and singing indigo girls
songs... we've been doing
this for about 6 years and know "our parts" well, heehee... anyway, one
day during "this train" we heard the line "gypsies, queers and david's
stars" and julie said sort of matter o'factly, "that's us!" ... and ever
since then i've always loved that song...

*g* sarah mclachlan has said that she never really knows the depth of
her songs until she hears fan's interpretations of them, and then she
thinks, wow!...so what i always see the song as is probably *not* what
amy wrote it to be...*l*
i always thought of it as a sort of introspective, confessional type of
thing. like a letter to a lover..(?) here's how you preceive me, but
inside is who i really am, and that means more to be than your image of
me. dealing with the fame, and the misconceptions ppl have of you. b/c
they never really see you, they see the you they think you are...that's
what i always got from the beginning: "she lives in my soul, drinks of
my wine, and i'd give anything to keep us alive.."
then of course you have the name, and the 2nd part, "are they coming for
us w/cameras or guns? we don't know which but we gotta run and you say
this is not what i barganed for..." i always thought that was like, when
you become a celebrity of sorts, you literally become a fugitive. and
with the gay factor, she's saying, are these ppl fans? or are they
psychos that hate me because i'm a "visible lesbian"? so there's a fear
there either way, and it's hard for ppl close to her because they can't
have a normal time with her! so she's saying, i want to know the real
you, i want you to know the real me, "so hide yourself for me." almost
like, don't lose yourself..but also, don't show yourself to just anyone,
i want the real you to be mine and mine alone...
ok..then "we swore to ourselves we'd go to the end of the world but i
got lost in the whirl and twirl of it all.." is like love getting lost,
she's saying i didn't want this to happen, but it did...then i think
she's talking about how hard it is to let someone make their own
mistakes.."won't do you any good, you've got to get burned.."
then the part, "i stood without clothes, danced in the sand i was aching
w/freedom kissing the damned i said remember this is how it should be.."
seems to be almost like she's remembering a first encounter with love.
the first time you truly accept yourself, and you let someone see you,
bare yourself. kissing the damned being a woman, and how society sees
it. and saying the freedom there was so amazing, she's saying this is
how it should be.
repeating the "chorus" is sort of almost admitting defeat, but not
wanting to give in to it, she's still saying "hide yourself for me," but
she also says "i will hide myself for you" like we can make it despite
all these mistakes and the hard stuff...
then the repeating of "i stood w/out clothes.." is almost like a
goodbye. sort of like, i found freedom now, i kept myself, but somehow
you got lost, and it's almost like a goodbye when she says the last "i
said, remember this is how it should be." like, nothing's ever going to
live up to this feeling, ever again.
that's just my *rather lengthy* opinion...i hope it's not too off *l* if
it is don't flame me and say oh you're stupid! *l* cuz i'm a bit fragile
when i give my opinion on these things and i sort of poured it all out
in that b/c the song has personal signifigance to me! :)

i don't know how many of you have heard, but the religous right is
very upset about american airlines offering partner benefits. they're
trying to do everything they can to convince aa to change their minds.
there is a petition that has been started in support of aa's decision
regarding partner benefits. for the purpose of bandwidth, i'm not
sending this to the whole list. however, if you would like a copy of the
petition to forward to other folks, let me know via private email.
thanks,
allison

hey y'all i thought it might be time for an inflammatory comment! i recently
saw sarah for the first time, and i was so impressed by her live show. i saw
the girls in december for the first time after being a fan for 10 years, and
of course i loved them, but i can't help but say sarah's show was way better.
she changed every song just slightly and made it that little bit much better
for the live show, which obviously takes more work and effort than performing
the songs exactly as they are on the cd. the girls peformed all their songs
at the show i saw exactly as they appeared on the recorded version, which was
great at the time, but i felt like i was getting a bonus at sarah's show.
each song was even more beautiful than the recorded version. it was like a
special "thank you for coming to see me live." also she played for 2 very
solid hours, as opposed to barely 90 mins for the girls. she had a beautiful
yet simple stage presence, and i can honestly say i've never enjoyed a show
more! yet, the girls' show cost more! this, combined with all sarah offers
her fans through her fan club as opposed to the nothing the girls offer
through their fan club, left kind of a bad taste in my mouth. have any of you
all had this feeling lately?

i think it's obvious...it's about fame getting in the way of real
life...amy seemed to write it about how she and whoever she is with have to
deal with the major interruption in their lives the indigo girls have
become...and amy is reassuring the other woman that the relationship is
more important. "are they coming for us with cameras or guns?" is the give
away line...

performer, but better than amy and emily???!!!! no way! they connect
with their audience on such a personal level which makes the show an
exchange rather than a performance. hey, i've rarely, if ever, seen them
do a song live exactly the same way as the recorded version. i

yep, she is a great performer. i wasnt even a fan before i saw her at lilith
in dec. i really fell in love with her music after hearing her perform live,
and if she ever brings her solo tour this far south (south florida) i will go.
i bought three of her cds after that show too. she's great but she's not the
indigo girls. (who i must say havent played album cuts in concert since the
rites tour. wanna talk about album cuts, go see cheryl crow.)
the igs are soul music to me. to understand what i mean consider this: last
week i had a nasty bout with viral vertigo. literally threw up 15 times . when
my friend connie brought me home from the doctor, she put me in bed, got me a
squeeze bottle of gatorade, and asked what i wanted on the stereo while she
went to pick up my medicine. without even thinking about it i said "put the
indigo girls on." (1200 curfews and n*i*s.)
what else would i listen to when i was scared and when i needed to feel calm,
centered and better?

not me! i've seen the girls three times this year, and each time got
something special- different solos or socs...not on every song, but on
enough, especially considering its a lot harder to ad-lib when you're not a
solo performer (is sarah playing solo or with a band? and are the changes
she makes merely vocal nuances, or something more? just curious) not to
mention that they have such a large repetoire at this point...they could
easily just pick a set list and stick to it, but they choose to add new
songs and revive old ones- i love that you never know what songs to expect.
btw, another performer who gives you something extra in her live show is dar
williams- she tells stories in between songs.

i called one of the high schools that's a few minutes from my house that
was on the list for an ig concert to ask some info about it. they told

or not the group was "appropriate" for high school students. of course,
i found that a bit offensive....but hopefully not too many people will
complain about them...*sigh*

vinyl reverse 1 live?
does that exist - are you sure you are not talking about the 12" land of
canaan (blah blah plus 5 live...that has been a while...)
i never thought it was released on vinyl - and given the proliferation of
cd recorders (memorex are now list price $299!) i can not see why it would
be out there.
are you sure it isn't vinyl shades of indigo (dumb luck: friend gave me the
original two weeks ago on cd for doing him a favor, now if i was lucky for
the live in sf '92 promo...)
actually does anyone have that?
(please no flame wars email me privately)

pearl jam immediately after - words dont do it justice - thank god for

i don't mean to flame anybody, but since this has been opened up to
discussion, i thought i would share my thoughts. i had the pleasure of
seeing both ig and sarah at the last show of lilith '97 in vancouver and
both were highly entertaining. sarah did a great job and it was a very
special moment to be among the 35,000 people singing the ice cream song in
unison at the end of the show. she also played some of her singles and they
all sounded great. i must say though that nothing about that day (as
incredible as it was, even in pouring rain!) was as moving as seeing our
favorite gals up on that stage just a couple hundred feet from me. it was
totatly awesome (grevious understatement!). probably the best part of the
set was in the middle of scooter boys, when amy went off on this long soc
that was so powerful i almost couldn't believe it (incidentally, if anyone
has a boot of that performance, especially that song, you just could be my
new best friend)! i also found some of the collaborative efforts to be
incredibly moving. i still get chills when i remember their incredible
performance of water is wide. oh well, you get the point. anyways, that's
my feeling on seeing the girls live. that was my first time, and i cant'
wait to do it again. and hey, lilith 98 will be near my home for three
consecutive days so with a little luck....ig/liilith marathon??? hey i can
dream can't i? :)
pieces,
chris wilson
p.s. if any other listee's were at this show, i would love to hear from you!

hey y'all
i also got something from prodejas records but no tickets. i was not a happy
camper when i realized there were no tickets. i personally am not happy
about the idea of getting them at will call. the reason i bought them
through prodejas was to receive them in hand. if i knew this, i would have
made the hike from balto to the college to purchase them...ugh!!!! i just
feel like its gonna be a big old mess. does anyone out there go to this
college that can tell me its not???

okay. so all of you interpret fugitive to be about fame? i have only
briefly considered this option, perhaps because it has always had a
much more personal meaning for me. we discussed it on the list a
couple of years ago and i don't remember the whole discussion, but,
for me, it has always been about being queer. that it is to say,
being queer makes you a fugitive, makes you subversive. people
target you, they try to out you, they try to make you deny who you
are, they make you an outlaw, they tell you that you are perverse. i
know this is a hell of a lot than most people bargain for just to
be themselves. in a queer relationship of any kind (whether it is
homosexual, s/m, with a transgendered person, with more than one
person, or whatever else i am leaving out), you do kiss the damned;
society has dictated that queer people are damned. to me, then, it is
not only a song about being queer but also coming to terms with that,
with gaining a sense of pride and finding freedom within it, about
seeing the situation as being a fortunate one. when she writes about
learning to respect what we don't understand, i think the line is a
partner line to emily's lyrics in ia (hate me 'cause i'm different,
hate me cause i'm gay. . . it's alright). in other words, it is hard
to understand those who are different, who live in a different
paradigm and understand things in a completely different manner.
yet, at least people can show respect for it. millions of parents
across the country have had to learn to do this for their queer
children. of course, understanding is also key, but that can only
come after respect. . .
sorry this is incoherent. when you receive the gift of access to a
computer in spain, you are always rushing to get through all the mail.

i'm with you on this one. i hate will call and it's especially annoying for
people who don't come with enough people to stake out all possible lines (the
have-tickets-line and the don't-have-tickets-line,
the-i-need-tickets-and-don't-know-where-to-stand-line). and besides they *did*
charge us a mailing fee as well, didn't they? it's only a dollar or two, but if
they don't refund it to all of us it's gonna look strangely like a scam to make
a little extra profit (with several dozen of us they already make a profit of
around $100...i know *i* don't have that to spare). what if we all complain to
the record store?

ok, so it's time. time once again for someone to ask the great forbidden
questions (tm), and it may as well be me. so here goes:
gfq 1: does anybody actually *have* the "live in san francisco" promo who's

gfq 2: does anybody actually *have* the emily saliers solo tape referred to
on
the lifeblood site who's willing to share it with us?
gfq 3: does anybody actually *have* any information on the cd bootleg tree
that was supposedly being formed by some kind soul with both time and blank
cd-r's to burn?
if you, or someone you love, or even someone you're just vaguely acquainted
with, knows anthing vaguely resembling answers to these gfq's, please -- let
us all know! even answers of "no" would be more information that i currently
have.
thanks. i think.

hey y'all. this question of mine may sound like an intrusion of privacy,
but it really isn't, so please read on. thanks. :)
i was reading all the fugitive posts and it got me thinking about the
girls' privacy. from what i can deduce from fugitive, amy and cooper (i'm
assuming fugitive is about cooper for the sake of space) had a rough time
with the media and their own privacy. so, my question to you is: did any of
you know about cooper before the curve article came out last december? i'm
just curious to know how much privacy they actually do have. i'm not
looking for gossip or personal stories, just a yes or a no. thank you so much.

hi,
with all this talk about fugitive and this train (revised), i wanted to
talk about everything in its own time. emily has said it's about waiting
for peace to come, but i can only barely see it that way. she wrote it,
so i guess it must be about that. but i was listening to the lyrics
again, and i started thinking about how much it relates to the coming out
process. how people come out at different speeds. whenever they're
ready. it also deals with a lot of things that gay people think about:
god, keeping it in your heart, boys playing together and wondering where
to fit in. maybe it's just me. but i take the song as inspirational on
that level and it's a nice reminder that as you come out, you should take
your own pace; whatever's comfortable with you. anyone else feel that
way?

i would agree if amy and emily had ever really hid their lesbianism, but
they don't. however, i remember reading an article around the time that so
came out talking about how amy had to move from her home in atlanta to a
place outside the city because people were showing up on her doorstep day
and night and sometimes seranading her from under the windows. in light of
what has happened to other famous singers and actors at the hands of or
indirectly because of overzealous fans, i can definately see how this song
reflects fame. she says right out that her sig other's reaction was this
is not how it was supposed to be...basically.

no, i see it as something different. now, i obviously didn't write the song,
but "everything in it's own time" is something that i think almost everyone
struggles with. life is about whether it be waiting for someone to "come out"
or waiting for your birthday party to start when you were a little
kid.....counting down to the last day of school or getting your license, or
even when you are going to finally find mr. or ms. right. a good example is
when a baby is born. you want it to come out so bad, but it will come out
when it is ready, in it's own time. emily sailers says she is waiting for
peace, but you obviously can't rush that. the people really have to feel it
and act apon it. well that's my 2 cents.........anyone agree????
disagree????

everything in its own time (by the way, thanks for not writing "it's"), to
me, is one of the most spiritual songs ig has recorded.
"we own nothing, nothing is ours. not even a love so fierce it burns like
baby stars. but this poverty is our greatest gift...the weightlessness of
us as things around begin to shift."
these are some of the most beautiful, jaw-droppingly poignant words emily
has written. the whole idea of letting go of worry, thus being weightless,
thus being unaffected by what happens around you. it's not being
apathetic; it's faith and trust.
"not even a love so fierce it burns like baby stars. ..." love is
something so intensely personal that we feel like it is ours, something we
developed and nurtured and exists because we will it into being. but if we
believe like emily (apparently) does, we know that love is given to us by
someone above. a gift.
matthew 6:34..."therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will
worry about itself. each day has enough trouble of its own." i think this
is (part of) the message of eiiot.
i wasn't particularly gripped by eiiot ever since sots came out, but just
recently these words (and the song) really got my attention. it's
something to think about. and i agree, it can mean many things to
different people. but to me, being a christian, it is about waiting on
god, knowing that his timing is perfect, and realizing that if i think i
own the things in my life (including love), i am wrong.
thanks,
justin
