i found some amazing things today in a local cd store.   i got the shed your
skin remix cd, along with an advance copy of the new ep being sold at the
lilith fair this summer.

i just thought that people might want to start checking out their local used
cd stores, on the off chance you might find them.

the shed your skin cd has the following tracks:
1) shed your skin (album version)
2) shed your skin (live) (8/20/97)
3) shed your skin (tom morello remix)
4) get out the map (live) (8/13/97)
5) shame on you (live) (1/29/98)

the ep (which, i believe, will be given away with purchase of sots at lilith)
has these tracks:
1) shed your skin (tom morello remix)
2) get out the map (live) (8/13/97)
3) shame on you (live) (1/29/98)
4) everything in it's own time (live) (4/27/97)
5) blister in the sun (live) (2/1/98)
6) shed your skin (live) (8/20/97)

both are full color digipaks, and have information about each track (place
recorded, people involved, etc.) and also a list of lilith dates.

=)

i think the movie being referred to here is warren miller's snowriders ii.
each year miller puts out an extreme skiing/snowboarding movie and the music
is background for the skiing. my ski team showed this winter's film as a fund
raiser and shame on you was used during one segemnt. most of the song is
played. ig keeps pooping up in the randomest places.

n.y. theater to stage gay christ play despite threats

         (note language in 13th paragraph)
            by chris michaud
new york (reuters) - a new york theater company  thursday
reversed a decision not to produce tony-winning playwright
terrence mcnally's ''corpus christi,'' which features a
homosexual christ-like figure, despite death threats and
protests from some catholics.
the manhattan theatre club said a week ago the play would
not be produced this fall because of security problems.
but on thursday it announced at a news conference that
''corpus christi'' would be mounted as originally scheduled,
''subject to final confirmation from the police department of
adequate security measures.''
''after information about the play appeared prematurely in
the press, we received numerous death threats to mr. mcnally,
and finally, a threat to exterminate the author, the staff and
our audiences and burn the building to the ground,'' the
organization's artistic director, lynne meadow, said.
but in the last day consultation with new york city police
commissioner howard safir provided ''the reasonable assurances
we need to produce this play responsibly and safely,'' meadow
said.
mcnally is among broadway's most prominent playwrights,
winning tonys in recent seasons for ''master class'' and ''love!
valour! compassion!'' and he was nominated for writing the book,
or script, of the hit musical ''ragtime.''
meadow said the theater company had not received
confirmation that mcnally would still mount the play at
manhattan theatre club. ''our assumption is he would like to go
ahead,'' she said. other companies were reported to have
expressed interest in the play after the theater company said
last week it was dropping it from its fall schedule.
the flap began when the new york post reported the work in
progress featured a gay christ-like character who has sex with
his disciples.
the catholic league then blasted the work, calling it ''sick
beyond words'' and ''deeply offensive to catholics,'' and
launched a protest letter-writing campaign.
the league said in a later release that if another company
did the play, ''we'll wage a war that no one will forget.''
manhattan theatre club's description of ''corpus christi,''
which it would not elaborate on, said it depicts ''a young gay
man named joshua on his spiritual journey'' and ''the 12
disciples who choose to follow him.'' it concludes that mcnally
''gives us his own unique view of 'the greatest story ever
told.'''
meadow and executive producer barry grove said the theater
had received numerous protest calls and at least five
threatening calls after news reports on the play's content.
they played a tape of one call, which directed its message
at ''jew guilty homosexual terrence mcnally'' and threatened to
''exterminate every member of the theater and burn the place to
the ground. this is a message from national security movement of
america. death to the jews worldwide.''
meadow said police were notified, but that it was initially
decided that staging the play as scheduled would have been
dangerous.
in light of the reversal, south african playwright athol
fugard said he would be ''absolutely delighted to bring back my
play 'the captain's tiger''' to the theater company. fugard had
withdrawn his play after manhattan theatre club said it was
dropping ''corpus christi'' from its fall roster.
a letter signed by virtually every prominent playwright in
the nation also lauded the action, calling it a ''brave and
honorable decision.''

hkf's,
as others have stated, the l5p pub changed it's name/ownership/identity
about a month ago.  it's called '9lives' or something stupid like that.
they tried to jazz up the name, the tacky sign out front and also the
inside.  it's no longer a basic bar w/ a cool hole-in-the-wall feel, but
it's now trying to be all fancy or something.  i think the place looks
horrible now - but, in my mind, it will always by the l5p pub!!!!!

they played the "water is wide" video on the canadian country station
yesterday, too. out of curiosity, when they play it on vh-1 do they
attribute it to sarah mclachlan/indigo girls/jewel in that order like they
did here? i figured it might be the cancon (canadian content laws) coming
into play, but i thought that was kind of funny, considering that it was
clearly a & e who were a) playing the guitars and b) generally carrying the
song, with help from the other two. that station isn't bad- they also played
dar williams' "cool as i am" last night, and they put their entire lineup
for the day on the net, so you can plan to see certain videos.

later,
sarah

greetings to all on the list!

since the girls will be headed to new england this
summer after all, (and finally all my bitching about them
not playing any of the ne lf dates has ended), does
anyone know how much tickets are and what website
i could go to for more info on the show?  my sister said
she saw kd lang at harborlights 2 summers ago and
tickets were like $55 each.  i hope this is not going to
be the price for the ig tix.  thanks for your help.

take care and peace!

subject:      i'm back!!! (icg -- i promise!)
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

hey everyone!

i am back from my trip down to good old kentucky :-)  so i'm back at this
e-mail address (for a week at least -- i am not even sure if i'll have
e-mail once i get to berkeley!).

anyway, i  have 2 cool igc stories.  the first is when i logged on to my
e-mail account today, i had a message from my university's refrence
librarian.  she wanted to make sure that i saw the ig article in the ny
times.  since i was out of town, and didn't get to read it, she is going
to send it to me at home!!!  she is a really nice woman, she has e-mailed
me about the girls before.  i guess that everyone at wittenberg just knows
that i love the indigo girls!  :-)

my second ig story is weird.  i was listening to the radio (gasp!  i never
listen to the radio except for npr from yellow springs, ohio, when i am at
school) and i had just turned it on.  so i was flipping through the
stations, and i got to one of those "best of the 70's 80's and the 90's"
crappy stations.  anyway, the dj was saying "a dupo of guitar players,
like the indigo girls...here are the mummers."  so i listened to the song,
and it reminded me of the spice girls, not the indigo girls (sorry for
those of you who like them, but i just thought that they were very spice
girlish).  after the song ended, the dj told us to call in and give him
our opinions.  so i called.  i told him that they reminded me nothing of
my goddesses.  then he asked me if i was "one of those"  i was like "yes,
i am an indigo girls obsessed freak..."  then he was like "well, they also
met in school."  i was like "sorry, they just didn't remind me of the
girls."  he played some phone clips from other peoples' calls on the air
(not mine), but he did say that he just talked to an obsessive ig fan who
said that the song was nothing like an ig song....i guess that would be
me...

okay, off to do something productive!

:-) karen

subject:      bumper sticker update
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

hkfs,

no, i haven't given up on the bumper stickers.  i've just been
enormously busy lately, (try working full time and going to school full
time and see how much free time you've got).  but the good news is i
ordered the stickers today.  the prices are not yet definate, but expect
the real, full fledged, ordering info post soon.  that is, early next
week.  hopefully monday or tuesday, not later than wedesday.  and
sherlyn, i'll send you a note for the news only list too.

for any newbies or resubscribers who missed the initial discussion about
this, the bumper stickers are gonna say "a + e = ig" and they will be a
dark blue (closest to indigo available) outlined by white.  they are
transparent stickers, are guaranteed not to damage your car, and the
adhesive is on the back so those of us without cars can stick em
wherever.  i decided to get 250 stickers... i'll sell em at concerts if
need be.

also, i'll be unsubbing in a couple weeks.  but not to fear, my fabulous
brother, a rampant ig fan thanks to me, will be handing the
bumpersticker orders while i'm up at my summer camp in vermont, sunning
and sailing across lake fairlee.... aahhhhh... i'll let you know how to
get in touch with him via email when i post ordering info.

hum.  i guess that's about it.  if i can, i might post a nice picture of
the sticker on the web: i can scan it, but does anyone out there want to
loan me space on their page to paste in a little picture?  let me know.
yay!

lizzy

ps.  just as a little addendum: i posted once from my work email
address.  if anyone still has that post, or received another email from
me from work, please don't reply to them.  my last day of work is only a
few days away, and i'd like to kill any correspondence to that email
addy.  keep in touch with me on this addy.  thanks so much.

subject:      a ton of stuff

ok, this is going to have a ton of stuff, so i'll just cram it into one
message.

first off, about the snowboarding video....it's warren miller who puts
out a new ski/snowboard movie every year.  warren miller productions is
located in my hometown of boulder, colorado.  mr. miller did attend the
ig concert at red rocks last summer and he must have really enjoyed them
to put ig music in the movie.

also, for my local new yorkers, i might recommend joes cd's west.  it's
music heaven!!!!  specializing in techno, classical, jazz and women
folk/rock.  i've never seen a women folk/rock section in a store.  not a
small section either, i mean a big section.  lots of cd racks......ig,
kristen hall, vonda shepard, k's choice (btw they were giving out a promo
by k's choice called "everything for free"....only 1 song.  i've got 1
extra for those interested.), all the other deamon artists.  their ig
section was *huge*.  every studio release + singles.  bootlegs.  4.5 for
$20.  unbelievable!!!!!!

anybody with more info on a possible lilith kick off in bryant park (nyc)
please write me.

also, does anyone know when the gay pride parade for new york city is??
i've heard a few different dates and now i'm all confused.  (why does it
seem like i'm always confused?)

ok, that's it from me for now.

subject: [lilith-fair-fans] 2 cd-set review in rolling stone
from: honeybee81@juno.com (sharon d moeller)

hello again, lilithiers,
the may 28, 1998 issue of rolling stone featured a "lilith fair - a
celebration of women in music" 2 cd-set review.  rolling stone gave the
set three and a half stars (five stars being the best.)  here's what the
review said:

**  lilith fair, sarah mclachlan's magical sisterly tour, was last
summer's biggest success story.  to tide fans over until june, when it
begins anew, there is lilith fair: a celebration of women in music, a
live double cd featuring twenty-five artists, from the big girls (paula
cole, shawn colvin, joan osborne) to the up-and-comers (abra moore, tara
maclean.)
perhaps to offset the fest's strummin'-and-hummin' image, a fair
number of the songs on lilith fair are powerhouses.  cole's soaring,
pulse-pounding "mississippi" proves why she was the festival's breakout
star.  the cardigans' "been it," a cool, pop-y reproach on record, is all
big guitars and nina persson's wailing vocals here, and it rocks
satisfyingly.  ditto the indigo girls' "scooter boys," a high-octane
hootenanny of furious strumming and urgent vocals, and abra moore's
jazzy, sultry "four leaf clover."
on the gentler trip, lisa loeb's "falling in love" is simple and
poignant.  "the time between meeting and finally leaving is sometimes
called falling in love," she sings in a clear, sweet voice, accompanied
by only acoustic guitar and emmylou harris' harmonies.  mclachlan's
smooth, serene "building a mystery" glimmers, as does her teaming with
jewel and the indigo girls' blending voices on "water is wide."
(interestingly, this is jewel's only appearance on the cd.)  harris is
hauntingly beautiful, as always, on "going back to harlan."  colvin's
"trouble," a more obscure number from her 1996 album a few small repairs,
is quietly affecting.  "trouble," she sings matter-of-factly, "is like a
friend to me."  **

in a message dated 98-05-16 15:06:21 edt, you write:

<< hello, all!
i'm sorry to repost something so long, but i haven't had quite enough
orders to get the quantity discounts i need to offer you guys such low prices,
so look over the list and let's decorate our guitar cases and cars and such!
the sooner you reply the sooner i can get everybody's stickers out to 'em!
tell all your friends so we can get this show on the road!  (no pun
intended... on the road... bumper stickers... get it? =) )

<< okay, i did this about 2 years ago, so i guess it's time to do it again...
basically, i have a catalogue of bumper stickers here.  with the quantity
discounts bumper stickers are cheap, so that's why it's easier to do it on
the
list.  okay, it's not easier for me, personally, but it's easier for all you
guys. =)  i don't make a profit at all (obviously) and you get some cool
stuff!  so, here's the list of what's available.  what you do is pick the
ones
you like and write them down on a piece of paper.  please be specific.  on
that paper also write your name, address, and e-mail address, and maybe even
a
little note to me so i feel loved. ;)  then e-mail me with the list of what
you want and i'll write back with the dollar total and my address so you can
send me that piece of paper along with your payment.  it's that simple.
i'm also here if you have questions about the procedure. =)  i'm going to
stop
taking orders eventually, so please reply as soon as you decide what you'd
like to have. =)  the following stickers are just basic bumper sticker size.
they are in various colours, etc.

i haven't heard this mentioned on the list (although it may have
been & i just skimmed over it too fast:), so here it is:

http://www.musicnet.com/hotpicks/index.html

this is musicnet's site, and if you click on 'pop' albums,
one of the choices you'll get (today, at least) is the lilith
cd.  the only thing they offer that you can actually
listen to is paula cole, lisa loeb, and water is wide
(they list jewel as the only artist, even though it's
with the girls ((and maybe sara mc??)) just like
everything you heard from last year's lilith).  don't
get too excited; the clips are only a few seconds, but at least
it's something.

oh, and this part really sucks:  they have the track listings
for each of the 2 cds, and they spelled scooter boys with a
"z".  that's right, it reads:  scooter boyz...indigo girls.
i mean, my god- we're talking about indigo girls, *not*
"beastie girls"!  well, anyway...it just seems like such a
stupid mistake.  but check it out, at least it's *something*.

oh, yeah, and you don't have to have realplayer or any other
plugin, it just plays straight off the site through your speakers.

enjoy!

okay, i have been listening to the new mongrels here lately and i was struck
by a line in one of the songs.  i can't remember off hand which song it was,
but if you listen to this cd at all you should know what i am talking about.
in the song there is a string of random letters . . . me and my curiousity . .
.  i looked in the cd booklet and there is really no definition to this string
of letters but i think i have some of them figured out.  if somebody has
already figured it out, let me know.  if not, well go me!!!  here goes my
explanation/question:
the line--  hey a r e s j r g m u r i t take that for me  --

i think it is an acronym a my r ay  e mily s aliers  j im r ogers  g erard m
chugh then i am at a loss from there.  u r i t are still unaccounted for.
all of these people have something to do with the album so it could feasibly
work.  i just thought i would ask the experts, if there are any that know
about this.  i would also like to see what i might have looked over.  anyone
who can help me on this, i would be greatly appreciative.  thanks . . . and
have a wonderful day what is left of it.  y'all are great.  please look over
any minor typos, i am on allergy medication.

well, urit could be some phonetic thing, as in:
"amy ray, emily saliers, jim rogers, gerard mchugh-- you're right"
whaddya think?
isn't that entire album, heck, the entire concept, just the weirdest
thing you've seen in a long time? trying to read the liner notes...
sheesh.  it's like a big inside joke to which i am not privy.  hmm.

wondering.  what happened to the lineup? i mean last year at scranton we
had sara, ig, lisa loeb, sheryl crow, jewel and god knows who all else
and this year the east coast only gets sarah and ig (the other artists
are unbeknownst to me)  meanwhile, the west coast (spoiled brats) get
the good line ups.  what's up with this?  i don't mind paying 59 bucks
to see sarah and ig (my all time favorite group) but why do we get the
leftovers and look at hershey park.....who are those performers????

just venting...love,  k

far be it from me to feign false modesty or to dismiss a
well-intentioned compliment -- *however*...

to be perfectly honest -- i ain't no genius -- my breadth of info
extends only as far as sometimes knowing where and how to find
information...

in this case -- i just flipped open ig's 1st cd booklet -- and there,
under ctf -- were the names of the musicians...

see... it don't take a genius!

yep, it has. you can order it from daemon:

     http://www.monsterbit.com/daemon/

daemon records
po box 1207
decatur, ga 30031

*plus* -- if you have realaudio 5.0 & a decent modem...

... and you can listen to the *entire* 45 minutes of new mongrels - big
cup of empty cd -- anytime (server willing!)...

yeah the hershey lineup pretty much sucked in my not so humble opinion.  i
mean the only one that was there that i really wanted to see was sarah...
no ig, no sinead...oh wait natalie may have been there but i don't know
much of her solo stuff compared to her maniacs stuff.  i wouldn't mind
paying $59 but only if it was sarah playing the entire show by herself -
not just for an hour.  i wouldn't sit there all day just to see her.  so i
ditched lilith and i'm doing individual stuff.  seeing the girls in
bethlehem, and i am hoping to see ani twice next month (already got the
tix fer philly, need to get the one's fer harvey's lake)...it was quite
disappointing.

good morning people!

the movie was called "warren miller's snowriders 2."   warren miller is a
ski-movie mogul.  every year he make a movie and it tours in the fall (i
saw the film in november) and is your basic "pump you up for the ski
season" event.

in "snowriders 2" he featured both soy and gotm.  it was used in the
and-now-for-the-women-skiers portion that was shot in the alps.  he did
edit the songs but it worked pretty nicely!

i don't know if he releases his film on video or not, but if you like snow
sports you'll love his movies!

i am pretty sure i posted about having seen it to the list... but maybe i
didn't.  old age you know.  have a great weekend.

ok, so i have recovered from the family-filled weekend (barely)!
we went to this mall, and as i walked in for some reason i started

i was going..this is familiar..what is this? and then it got to the
right part and i started singing,
"i remember the time i came so close to you.."
and i screamed lel! it's emily!
and she started looking around, and i grabbed her arm and said listen!
and she did, and i started singing with it again, and she goes no way!
they've taken our sacred indigo girls and turned least complicated int

i got this from the ig newsgroup.

:)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
goldmine magazine, a magazine for music collectors, has an advertisement in
their newest issue for: "indigo girls - since forming an acoustic folk duo as
high school students in decatur, ga, emily saliers and amy ray have turned
their beautiful singing and powerful songs like "galileo," "hammer and a nail,"
and "closer to fine" into a crossover following not often seen in the folk
world.

"with live concerts that become extended sing-alongs as the audience drowns out
the voices of the singers, the indigo girls are a top live attraction and
bona-fide stars, not bad for a band that needs nothing louder than an acoustic
guitar to get its message across. meet this popular and very talented pair of
singer/songwriters in goldmine."

when they advertise an issue like this it generally means they are the cover
story, with a long article (sometimes more than 1) and a discography.

the issue goes on sale june 19, having an issue date of july 3.

hey folks,

unfortunately this is no longer happening. the interview with the girls
fell through. they are planning to do an article in an upcoming issue, but
not a cover story. a retraction of the cover announcement will be printed
in the next issue. of course all this info is subject to change.
take care,
joe

subject:      sigc: lilith/levi ad
content-type: text/plain

ok..i finally saw the lilith fair/levi ad..and i must say i was
appalled!! most of the girls looked fine, they all had on high-heels
which i thought was tacky, but that was ok. sarah however...looks..
*shaking my head* bad..i don't know if she had a say over it, but i'm
sure she did. to be perfectly frank, they made her up to look like a
whore. she has way too much black eye-liner under her eyes, it makes her
look as if she's on drugs..her jeans are unbuttoned and her hand is down
them (levi's is a bit late i think calvin klein/kate moss already did
that one)
tonight she's got a concert in ny and they're unveiling a bilboard on
time's square (i believe that's where it is) with sarah in levi's and i
sure hope that it's not this picture..i know she's trying hard to shed
her image as a perfect, earthmother/goddess type of figure but i think
she just comes off as tacky.

the whole ad seemed more exploitative than anything, and i felt a bit
relieved that the girls were not in it. it was like a shrine to big
business, lilith and sarah both this year almost feel like they're too
much about the money, than the women and harmony they were orginally
about...

i mean the k's choice ad was the best one, where it was her, her
brother, a guitar, that seemed more like using a musician to help sell
jeans. the rest just seemed like the normal, exploit a woman's body to
sell jeans kind of ad.

*hugs*

subject:      read!!!  lotsa stuff---newport on wheels? tour dates? internships?
content-type: text/plain

hey y'all-

i found, at www.pollstar.com/gossip.htm#no1 , that this year, the
newport folk fest will be a traveling show, with 13 weekend dates across
the country and a revolving lineup.  after putzing around on the net, i
figured out that the dates aren't being billed as the nff; they're just
being billed under the headliners' names.  for example, i found a date
in royal oak, mi with dar and two other main acts, which i'm thinking is
one of these traveling newports.  (it's sun., june 21, at the royal oak
music theater, and tickets are $27.50, in case anyone wants to check it
out.)

after surfing for 2 hours, i still can't find any tour dates for these
guys:
michelle malone
patty griffin
danielle howle
kristen hall

i know lots of you are verrry knowledgeable about these folks, so
pleeeeese post some tour dates? i distinctly recall someone posting that
michelle was going to be in cleveland, so i'm dying to hear this one.

btw, michelle's website (www.michellemalone.com) is not working, if
anyone out there knows who to contact about that.

heyyyy, did'y'all hear that ginger spice dropped out of the spice
gonads?!  ohhh happy daaaay, one of 'em's come to their senses!!!
so what is that,  1 down, 4 to go? woo...

alsooo, i have lost all senses and am fully planning on renting a car
and driving from cleveland to (the *official*) newport.   well actually
i'm taking the week off work, hopping into some kind of reliable
vehicle, and basically following the girls for a while-- here's my
itinerary: newport on the 9th (dar, ani, ig) and 10th; bethlehem
musikfest (ig) on the 11th; mwmf (ig) on the 12th-16th.  so uhm if
anyone wants to join me, or if anyone else is doing this tour de force,
drop me a line and maybe we can all travel in a biiig entourage (ooh
don't that sound so official?) or at very least, meet at points along
the way, maybe crash for a night together, etc etc etc.  just think of
it-- a weeklong listgathering!!! like the real world, only better :)

nigc (and it wouldn't be me if there weren't some):  i need an
internship.  or a damn cool job.  i will be taking next semester off, so
i'm ready, willing, and available from today through december.  any
leads, info, etc.? please email me.  resume available on request!!! :)
what am i looking for?  anything liberal, earthy-crunchy, loud,
protest-y, queer, feminist-y, woman-centered, youth-assisting, you know
what i mean.  :)  i can go anywhere in the contigious 48 states.  canada
and the u.k. are great toooo...

ohh lovies lovies,
okay, off ta do more nothing.
jill
