i've recently had all my stored files and favorite places sort of

seay official website.   i think that's all i need for now...   thanks!

the song has always haunted me....but today emily's voice cuts deeper into me
that it did the first time i ever heard it.  i put the familiar cd on this
morning while i was prepairing my breakfast...but i found that by the end of
the first verse i had sat down and was staring at my hands so hard that they
really didn't seem to make sense to me anymore.  then i blinked and i wasn't
staring anymore, but was still awestruck.  and somewhere after that - i don't
remember which line now - but there was this terrible ache that started deep
inside of me, deeper than anything i'd ever felt before, and it started
working its way out.  until it reached the very outer layers of me and left me
with goosebumps so extreme, that even they hurt.  after it was over i reached
over and pressed stop and sat there in silence and just thought on those
lyrics.  i cried.  i'm not sure how long.  but it was refreshing.  as i cried
i thought of old lovers and appreciated the little painful details that now
usually seem like they're really part of someone else's tail and not my own.
god!  emily is pure genious.  i think that her songs are the closest things
that i'll ever see to religious moments.

i just felt the need to share this moment of mine with people

i think i'm pmsing....that and i'm reading the well of loneliness for the
first time.
horribly depressing.

anyway...hope you all have a wonderful sunday!

alright... i thought i'd add my two cents in about what i thought "least
complicated" was about... bear with me, this gets very analytical...
well, when i first heard the song i figured it was about emily first
discovering that she was a lesbian... "boy and girl are holding hands on the
street, i want to but i think you just wait..." in this line i think she was
afraid to tell people that she didn't think that her and boys went together.
"the hardest to learn was the least complicated..." this line (to me) says
that emily was trying to see what she was and at the time, sort of denying it.
her sexual preference was right in front of her face and it wasn't very
complicated to see but she was afraid to admit it. in my opinion, sexual
preference isn't a very complicated matter (you either like girls, guys, or
both) but it's hard to figure out which one it is... do you get me? the
hardest thing to learn ( who you like) is not very complicated (sort of) but
it is complicated to figure out exactly which one it is, but when you are
ready to accept it, it's not a very complicated matter.
now maybe i just confused the heck out of you but... well, that's my
analytical piece for today... i'm sorry if i confused you and i'm sorry if
this as just a total waste o fyour time. alright, i'll stop babbling now. bye!
love, peace, indigo,

amy responded to that article in a letter to the editor. in the letter she
said that she totally disaproved of the interviewer's tone, said that the
journalist happend to be privy to certain information simply by virtue of the
fact that he/she? was around when traumatic things were happening in amy's
life, things which pushed her into being, you know, dark and brooding etc. she
also said she agreed to the article thinking that she and emily would be
equally represented, and was really pissed off that the article just focused
on her. just thought everyone might want to know that.

ok, guys,
i was having a rough-n-tumble night and felt like i needed some
comforting words, so i closed my eyes, opened my bible (though
dust-covered as it was) and blindly put my finger to the page.  i was in
proverbs, and read a little, and came to 6:16 or somewhere close to that
and noticed it sounded terribly familiar.  it read: "there are six things
which the lord hates,...haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed
innocent blood,..." ----- i frieked, then thought about how much sense it
makes to sting those bible-beating neo-revolutionalized "christians" with
the same book they've twisted against their fellow beings. (go amy!)  no
flames. please.  i just thought some of you might find this interesting!
ig always find us, don't they?

having a much more productive day,
julie

ok i have been away from my mail for 3 weeks and i just finished fishing
through all the mail in my box.  so i will try to put all my stuff in
one long post.

6 degrees:  i have done this with the x-files and i have found anything
that it isn't connected to.  but my separation
1) my friend mary met the girls (and she thinks amy is kooky/weird and
amy thinks mary is kooky/weird)
2) i know mary

today my sister was jumping and said, "watch me jump so high!"  well i
wonder what song was in my head?

then in the car she was crying so my mom blasted the girls and my sister
stopped crying.  i might add this is the same 2 year old who can
identify ani.

then i was shopping in a baby store and they had all these baby music
albums.  some musicians had some.  so i was thinking what if a&e put out
a baby album.  i already know that their soothing harmonies have put my
sisters and brothers to sleep.  not in a bad way.  you know what i mean.

then today i was my local target and my mom said she would buy me some
cd's for my b-day, since it is today.  so a zoomed over to the music
dept. faster than scooby-doo to his scooby snacks.  i saw the little ig
cd labeler thingy and to my dismay they didn't have any cd's.  i had the
urge to take it but i thought that would be a bad influence on my
sister.

where can i get a copy of bjl?  i really what to hear it.  i have read
the lyric far too many times and i would love to hear the tune.

my 12 favorite songs in no order

1. power of two
2. jonas and ezekial
3. ghost
4. galileo
5. land of canaan
6. language or the kiss
7. closer to fine
8. it's alright
9. get out the map
10. romeo and juliet
11. everything in its own time
12. watershed

and the super bonus extra hidden tracks
1. fare thee well
2. crazy game
3. airplane

as for my least listen two tracks i couldn't find any.  all of the songs
seem to get me at different times in my life.

as for feeling close to a&e (every time i read this i think of the
channel and when i watch the channel i think of the girls) i kind of
feel close to them.  through their songs they give over a piece of them
themselves.  i might not know them personally but i do know a little
more about them than a random person on the street.

as for y'all who live on the east coast a big raspberry at y'all! =p~  i
am having west coast envy.  i flipped through so many post of shows that
i can't go to cuz of my coast status.  let me say i am jealous!!

i think that covers everything.  i know i probably missed something.
but thought i should say hi to y'all.  and to all the people i have to
e-mail back.  sorry i have been slow and i am still trying to kick my
bronchitis and cold.  so hi to everyone!

hugs and hershey kisses~

i know we're not supposed to, but i really love that atlanta magazine article.
it makes me laugh so much.  moreover, i found it as interesting this time as
the last, as it (though "misrepresentational", as amy felt it to be) sums up
why i think amy has add (attention deficit disorder).  mini-profile:

"fiery passions and gale-force
determination have been the impetuses behind turning the
ig into a national act, selling 7 million albums in less than 8 years,
slumps over her amp in self-doubt. "i'm not sure i can do it,"
she intones to the group watching her through the glass . . . ray remains
transfixed on the sounds blaring straight through her . . . she's hot-
tempered, maintains an in-your-face attitude and then, at other times, is
prone to hanging about dark corners, peering off into the stratosphere,
brooding, like a poet. . . . amy ray
sometimes seems to be her own worst enemy.. . ."i have 10 different careers i
wanna have." . . . she's tough but prone to what her manager calls "blowups,"
and she cries a lot. "she's conflicted," says carter. "all of these conflicts
provide a tension n her life that leads to creativity." . . .  saliers says,
"she's just very driven to accomplish the things that she thinks need to get
done." . . . because amy feels everything so intensely, it's hard for her to
continue. "

here's the big one:
"she likens herself to the disenfranchised not because she's gay,
but because at times she sees herself going crazy."it's like people that other
people think are, like, lunatics usually see things a lot more clearly. they
don't have the boundaries. a lot of my friends, they even classify me that way
sometimes, but not usually. i keep it sort of to myself." . . .  it's obvious
nothing can stop her from continuously churning
these concerns over and over again in her mind.  nothing can save her big
heart from hurting. nothing, that is, save her music."

okay, maybe this is me just shoving my "problems" off onto amy, but i swear
that's straight from the text books.  it shows up a lot in her music, too . .
.
so here's the interesting moral quandry:  if amy does have add (which i've
been convinced she does), should somebody suggest it to her?  i know that
since going on medication, i have been much happier --( and much less prone to
identify with amy's most tortured songs!  <g>  i mean, in the most renowned
book on the subject, the author uses the words "intense, pain, emotionally
needy" in the chapter on relationships.)
but then, say she got tested and put on ritalin, what would become of the
music?  tennesse williams went into therepy and never wrote a decent play
again . . . what a selfish, silly thing.

okay, that's probably really crossing the line in personal lives, but so is
the atlanta article.  and i think the moral quandry part is sort of a
justified discussion, in that here's a musican we care about, so do we look at
her as a distant factory for intense music, or as a human we care about?

to bed ~

it makes me think about the jesus christ superstar: a resurrection
concert video.  for those who haven't seen it, the pharisees (the jewish
priestly council that opposes and eventually arrests jesus, deeming him
dangerous--"for the sake of a nation, this jesus must die") are dressed as
nightmarish, zombie-like figures wearing the outfits of priests, nuns, and
puritans.  who can forget the inquisition, or the burning times, or the
crusades, or what happened to--another ig reference--galileo?  for this
reason, i find the imagery of the costuming used in jcs:ar extremely
striking, and effective.  it happens all throughout history--a religious
group in the majority moves to silence a group that goes contrary to their
beliefs.  history repeats itself . . . you'd think it was one of those
things we'd have learned by now, from all the terrible things that
happened . . . once again, one of the lessons that should have been "least
complicated" is also "the hardest to learn."  so there you go . . . ig
always do find us, i guess.

don't worry, amy doesn't have add or adhd.  and you're right, she
probably wouldn't appreciate us diagnosing her.  that's personal.  if
you want to read it, here's the criteria for attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder.  ~dw

*snip*  from: http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis1/p21-ch01.html
diagnostic criteria

   a.either (1) or (2):
1.six (or more) of the following symptoms of inattention have
persisted for at least 6 months to a degree that is maladaptive and
          inconsistent with developmental level:

a.often fails to give close attention to details or makes
careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities
b.often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or
play activities
c.often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
d.often does not follow through on instructions and fails
to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due
to oppositional behavior or failure to understand
instructions)
e.often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities
f.often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in
tasks that require sustained mental effort (such as schoolwork or
               homework)
g.often loses things necessary for tasks or activities
(e.g., toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools)
h.is often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli
i.is often forgetful in daily activities

2.six (or more) of the following symptoms of
hyperactivity-impulsivity have persisted for at least 6 months to a
degree that is
maladaptive and inconsistent with developmental level:

          hyperactivity
a.often fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat
b.often leaves seat in classroom or in other situations in
which remaining seated is expected
c.often runs about or climbs excessively in situations in
which it is inappropriate (in adolescents or adults, may be limited
               to subjective feelings of restlessness)
d.often has difficulty playing or engaging in leisure
activities quietly
e.is often "on the go" or often acts as if "driven by a
motor"
             f.often talks excessively

          impulsivity
g.often blurts out answers before questions have been
completed
             h.often has difficulty awaiting turn
i.often interrupts or intrudes on others (e.g., butts into
conversations or games)

b.some hyperactive-impulsive or inattentive symptoms that caused
impairment were present before age 7 years.

c.some impairment from the symptoms is present in two or more
settings (e.g., at school [or work] and at home).

d.there must be clear evidence of clinically significant impairment
in social, academic, or occupational functioning.

e.the symptoms do not occur exclusively during the course of a
pervasive developmental disorder, schizophrenia, or other psychotic
disorder and are not better accounted for by another mental
disorder (e.g., mood disorder, anxiety disorder, dissociative disorder,
     or a personality disorder).

add is something that a creative, do-er, driven person does not have.
my youngest daughter has add, among other learning disabilities,
and is very bright, but has immense difficulties focusing on the
simplest tasks.  her learning style and processing of information is way
different, and simple things have to be approached in different ways to
be accomplished.

hello everyone! i have a few questions about the indigo girls and these
are bugging my brain! if these questions is too personal, i apologize

answers.

1. are the indigo girls making an album in the studio right now?
2. what are the names of emily's and amy's sisters and parents? also,
how old are they all, and do they have kids?
3. who is the little girl who emily picks up in the watershed video when
they are at a greenpeace function? she throws her up in the air and
catches her in slow motion. is that a relative or does anyone know?
4. is emily involved in any other business besides watershed and the
flying biscuit?
5. does emily's watershed restaurant have a webpage? if so, what is the
url?
6. what does sulli do when the girls are not on tour?
7. are there any webpages about sulli?
8. what is amy's guitar tech's name?
9. do amy and emily celebrate thanksgiving knowing what it means to many
native americans?
10. what do amy's tatoos mean?
11. does emily have any tatoos?
12. what kind of banjo and piano does emily play?

i think that is all the questions i have. if you know the answers to
them please send them to me. thank you all.

hey peeps :-)
ok.....i usually just delete posts that deal with what people use to record,
what works best, etc......
but now i need to know!  so please, if anybody has any info or wisdom they
feel like sharing, let me know!
i was looking at mini disc recorders today.....but i don't want to have to
buy a whole stereo system just so i can put mini disc recordings on tapes.
and the only other thing they had (best buy) was a $30 office mini-
recorder......it just didn't seem like it would offer the best quality
recordings.
any info would be appreciated - what you use, how much it cost you, etc.

thanks!

hey kind friends, i just thought i'd share something with you all...
today i was sorta down in the dumps and depressed and moody (and yes it's that
time of the month) and i just decided to listen to my 'strange fire' cd. but
this time i really listened to the words, and i mean the underlying words, not
just the 'words'. and i made so many connections to my life, friendships, etc.
and i started to really cry, and i mean totally bawl my eyes out... something
i haven't done in a loong time... and i just thought it was so weird that
something so simple (or not so simple) could touch me in that way. no other
singer or song has touched me in that way. has anyone else had an experience
like that? maybe it's just my period getting the best of me but... well, i
dunno.
peace,
~alyssa

many thanks to those who offered to pick this up for me.

i was able to order it from the starbucks web site
<http://www.starbucks.com>.  while you're there, pick up the "songs of the
siren" cds and the lilith fair compilation, which i think is better than
the official cd.

it is also available via an order form at <http://www.kmtt.com>.

does anyone know if this version of shame on you has been released before?
and is it with a whole band or just the girls?.

i have experiences like that all the time - not always crying,
although that can be the most cathartic therapy ever and i have done
it more than once.  i've also laughed my butt off, completely stopped
what i was doing because a lyric suddenly took on a whole new meaning
for me, realized a solution to a problem that had been plaguing me,
and learned something new about myself and my life.  to me, that is
the most wonderful thing about music - i could never live without
it...  the girls have meant more to me than any other artist thus far,
though there are many that have touched me.  emily's lyrics tend to
affect me right to the core of my being... it sounds kinda silly, but
i decided a few years ago that if i ever have a daughter, i'm naming
her emily (for our emily as well as for a bar/club in boston where i
had one of my most life-changing conversations ever - but that's
another story...)  i've been having a hell of a time lately, and i've
turned to music - as usual - and between the indigo girls, ani
difranco, patty griffin, sarah mclachlan, amongst others, have gotten
me through and preserved my sanity... well, what's left of my sanity!
just the other day "blood and fire" caught me and helped me work out
the dregs of an issue i had been dealing with.  i might just make it
through this!

peace, y'all...

i want to (fourth?) the recommendation that people go see commonbond at

they wrote a spoof on "closer to fine" which is absolutely hilarious - and
they are awesome people.

hi,
i got some interest on how to get on the ani difranco list.  here's how:

wendell

begin info

hello!

welcome to the new righteous babe records mailing lists.  there are now
six lists:

rbr-news: this list is for posting of news items such as the righteous
report, tour dates, album info, etc.  this list is not open to public
posting, so please don't bother trying.  it is here for those who want
to keep current on the latest news without weeding through the open
lists.  posts to rbr-news will also be echoed on rbr-focus and
rbr-fans, so members of those two lists need not subscribe to
rbr-news.

rbr-news-digest: a digest version of rbr-news.  subscribe requests go
to rbr-news-request, not rbr-news-digest-request.

rbr-focus: this list is an open list for fans who want to hold
discussions focused on righteous babe records and ani.  if a thread
diverges into other artists, movies, fan gatherings, tape trading,
etc, it should not remain on this list.  see below for a list for just
these purposes.

rbr-focus-digest: a digest version of rbr-focus.  subscribe requests
go to rbr-focus-request, not rbr-focus-digest-request.

rbr-fans: this is an open fan list, pretty much anything goes.  normal
rules of netiquette and polite behavior apply, but content is not
limited to any one topic.  this list should be where tangential fan
discussions take place - and when threads on rbr-focus diverge from
the list topic, please bring them to rbr-fans if you want to continue
the discussion in public.

rbr-fans-digest: a digest version of rbr-fans.  subscribe requests go
to rbr-fans-request, not rbr-fans-digest-request.

i trust the list members to self-regulate, and i hope i will not have
to exercise my authority as list maintainer.  please honor the lists,
your fellow fans, and myself by following these simple guidelines.  i
want the lists to be as open as possible, i don't want to have to
start scolding people.  we're adults, that shouldn't be needed.

======================================================================

in these commands, replace 'listname' with the actually name of the
list - rbr-news-request@righteous-babe-records.com' for example.  note
that to subscribe to the digest versions you do not send to
listname-digest-request.  the differentiation is done with the
'subscribe' keyword (for digest) and subsingle keyword (for list).

these lists are a bit different from the old majordomo lists.  to
subscribe you email to 'listname-request@righteous-babe-records.com'.
however, if you say 'subscribe' in the body you will be placed on the
digest.  if you want to be on the normal list, you must say
'subsingle' instead.

for help with the list commands please email
'listname-request@righteous-babe-records.com' with 'help' in the body,
or see <url:http://www.best.com/bestserv1.html>.

======================================================================
etiquette tips:
when replying to a letter, include only enough text so that people can
understand what you are replying to.  too little or no text can leave
people lost as to your point, and quoting an entire letter just to add
some comments is wasteful and considered rude.

if you are on the digest, be *very* careful not to quote the entire
digest in a reply.  this has happened, and it is very, very rude.  you
flood all the list members with the full digest of mail they've seen,
and it causes the mailer to make *another* digest with all the same
material in it.  which i then have to edit out for the archives.  it
is not a good thing to say the least.

do *not* send chain letters to the mailing lists.  this includes
petitions, political manifestos, make money fast, calls to arms, and
assorted other cruft.  depending on how serious i feel the violation
is, i may remove the address from the list after just one offense.
i feel very strongly about eliminating junk email.  if you have
something you want others to see, mention it when posting about
something else, and offer to forward it by private email.  don't
clutter the list with it.  thank you.

never, ever send image files to the mailing list.  first, *most* of
the readers won't be able to view them.  second, many mailers cannot
handle large files via email, and you might plug their mailbox, or
worse, crash their mailserver.  the proper way to distribute images is
via www or ftp.  i know at least one of the ani www photo collections
welcomes new photos.

======================================================================

rbr website:

work is underway on <url:http://www.righteous-babe-records.com/> if
all goes well the new website will be up soon, with the righteous
report newsletter, tourdates, album info, etc.  i will let the lists
know when it is running.

======================================================================

i hope that you enjoy the lists.  thank you:

-megazone, list maintainer, megazone@righteous-babe-records.com

hey folks,

i received a common pond catalog in the mail today, and couldn't
understand why, since i've never actually shopped  there.  for anyone
who doesn't know, the common pond is a little store in atlanta (which
emily helped finance) that sells environmentally friendly and recycled
items.   i think they either got my name from honor the earth or from
the ig fan club.  anyhoo, on the inside front cover there is a
reproduction of a handwritten note from emily.

i am a little hesitant to re-type it, since it is promoting a business,
but i figure that since it is one of emily's business ventures, and that
she would probably want the widest audience available,  and that you
guys would want to know about the store and  the catalog (because of the
foregoing), it would be appropriate for the list.   here is emily's
message:

dear fellow earth dwellers,

the common pond is an environmentally friendly retail store.  we offer
greeting cards made from recycled paper, candles made without paraffin,
vegetable based soaps, 100% unbleached cotton sheets made without
formaldehyde, baby clothes and earth friendly baby toys and products (to
name just a few).  everything we sell is made with the earth in mind and
packaged responsibly.  welcome to the common pond catalog!  now ordering
gifts you feel good about is as easy as picking up the phone.  more
important than convenience, though is contribution, because the common
pond will donate 1% of all catalog sales profit to honor the earth, a
non-profit organization which raises money and awareness for indigenous
grass roots environmental groups and communities.  so soothe yourself
and others with these wonderful common pond offerings.  thank you for
helping to celebrate and protect the balance and natural beauty of our
mother earth.

peace,
emily saliers

if anyone didn't get a catalog in the mail, you could probably call cp's
toll-free number and get one.  the number is 1-888-964-pond

peace,

joan :-d

just wanted to let everyone know that the url for the lifeblood site has
changed to:

www.lifeblood.net

if you have never visited the site, or have not visited it lately,  it has a
lot of indigo girls information including over 2500 articles (some dating
back as far as 1980), over 500 setlists (some dating back as far as 1981),
lyrics to over 150 songs, and detailed information on over 130 releases.

the site is still a work in progress and i have a lot of stuff left to add,
the new location will allow room for it to continue to grow and also will
allow a search engine to be installed (as soon as i figure out how to create
one :  )  ).

my email address will remain the same.

enjoy,

so i was in new york for a convention this past weekend, and when you get
opportunities like that, you do a bit of splurging. we were staying in the new
york hilton towers, just two blocks from broadway. on sunday, they had a
champagne brunch. i checked out the menu, and they were serving sushi. bingo!
i'm in. never mind the price. it was my splurge for the weekend.

so there's this woman in a purple dress with outrageously fiery red hair at
the piano, just tinkling away. for the most part, i tune her out, but at some
point i notice that what she's playing is really pulling my attention. it's a
bunch of these open, arpeggiated chords that sound like your typical piano bar
fare, but as i listen ... and listen ... "i looked to the children / i drank
from the fountains" she was playing closer to fine! i made eye contact and
grinned broadly, and she smiled back, and when she finished, i clapped very
loudly, which startled the heck out of everyone else there.

that was a nice moment. i knew the rest of you would appreciate it.

i haven't done in a loong time... and i just thought it was so weird that
something so simple (or not so simple) could touch me in that way. no other
singer or song has touched me in that way. has anyone else had an experience
like that? >>

hi y'all.....

the last week has been a rough one for me emotionally.....swamp ophelia, rop,
and sots have been the soundtrack of my life this week, along with gillian
welch's hell among the yearlings.....

i'm a long time ig fan, but it seems like in this past week the music touched
me deeper than ever.....

i don't know what my life would be if i'd never heard of amy and emily.....

peace...

at the risk of this sounding like a me-too post, i just wanna say:
well, me too!  i got the same catalog from common pond today
and was going to type out that note from em for y'all, but joan
beat me to it.  but anyway, i've never shopped there either, and i
wonder if they're not getting our names from rcam maybe??
because i don't think hte even has my name.
well anyway: who else got this mail-out?

just curious.

greetings everyone...
this is hardly important, but it made me smile, so i'm sharing.
this past weekend i was going to salisbury, md to play with a college
orchestra, and i've driven there before, but never noticed...  there's a
lovely little place called "chicken man" on the way there.  i couldn't stop,
but i was listening to rites of passage at the time, so it was a nifty little
adventure.  : )

can't remember if i've asked this before, so i'll beg your indulgence. i know
i put out this request on the vigilantes of love listserv, with no nibbles.

does anyone have either of the kick me tapes? the band that kelly was in
immediately after the jody grind's tragic demise? i'd really love to get me a
copy of either or both, especially for the song "marie".

and if anyone's an athens music follower with deep archives, and you happen to
have a copy of five eight's inflatable sense of self, that's another one i
would trade my first seven children for.

first of all i accidentally made one too many copies of the following:

1.  problem child---amy ray mixed tape (for those who don't already know)
2.  warner theatre erie, pa 4/15/95 (great, great, great chickenman soc)

i just want either a blank/sase for each or we can work out a trade b/c i
still don't have that many...but the collection is growing...  :)

second of all, i have a few cd's that i just don't listen to...i'm not looking
for money  however, for the first two cd's i would like to do a two blank or
two tape trade...for the rest of the cd's one blank or trade will work--just
take them from me--i can't even give them to cheapo!!!  i'll pay the postage
on all of the cd's...

1.  free to be volume 9 (this one has some great tracks, but i can't stand
samplers...they annoy me...): tracks: 1.  at seventeen--janis ian
2.fallen--lauren wood  3.  moonlight and roses--cheryl  wheeler  4.
alison--everything but the girl 5.  sweet jane---cowboy junkies  6.  radical
(remix)--catie curtis  7.  twist in my sobriety--tanita tikaram  8.  voices
carry--'til tuesday  9.  sex (i'm a...)--berlin  10.  say it, say it--e.g.
daily 11.   happenin' all over again--jewel and stone club mix  12.  savin'
myself---eria fachin.

2.  shakespear's sister--hormonally yours (this was one of those colombia
house pick of the months that i never sent the little card in for--and i never
listen to it...not that it's not a good cd...my roommate loved this
cd...unfortunately she didn't take it with her...) tracks:   goodbye cruel
world, i don't care, my 16th apology, are we in love yet, emotional thing,
stay, black sky, the trouble with andre, moonchild, cat woman, let me
entertain you, hello (turn your radio on)

3.   rem--monster.

4.  green day--dookie...this was a present from my brother...it used to be his
favorite band......i give him ig and he gives me green day...yeah...i don't
get it either...(he loves ig by the way...)

5.  bryan adams--reckless...this has summer of 69' on it...

anybody, anybody at all who wants any of these---let me know!!!
thanks!
kara.

list could answer for me. i have a couple of boots where amy sings
mexican meeting grounds instead of chicano city park in shame on you.
does anybody know why she changed it??? just wonderin.... oh yeah, i was
pretty pissed with all this talk about the cool common pond catalogue
everybody was getting and the hand written note from our very own
emily....that is until i got mine today! my guess is that everyone on
the list got signed up to get one which i think is pretty cool. i think
i read the thing from emily about 10 million times. happy turkey day to
everybody!

well it's sort of for erin but...um well whatever.

the thing on dvd that you have...it sounds vaguely like a video tape i
have.  does it say something about highlights from ig records...plus music
and moments from the recording of sots....cause if so i have that...just
on video.  i found a friend that was nice enuff to send me this if i just
paid for postage.  i'm like, "for ig?  i'd do that and more if you asked!"

of course if it's something different then i babbled for nothing but then

hey all, happy thanksgiving, i just wanted to get people's opinions about the
song fugitive. do you think amy is talking about a part of herself (she lives
in my soul...i'd give my last breath to keep us alive), the innocence of
whioch she wants to retain in the face of fame, or a relationship (now they're
coming to you, the lessons i've learned won't do you any good, you've got to
get burned) or maybe a combination of both?

i have to say that i think it's both, partly because part of keeping a
relationship alive in the midst of fame, i would think (trust me--i'm not
famous!) is keeping a part of yourself out of the light of that fame, in the
shadows, holding it safe for that one person.  kind of like how they don't
appreciate the list discussing their personal lives, totally understandable,
i'm not comfortable with it either, but they don't want every part of
themselves taken up, sucked into the whole business of success and
popularity.  also, i think the "defector of a kind" might have to do with
the way amy thinks of herself as somehow "defecting" from fame, keeping
pieces of herself for herself and for another.  making any sense or am i
crazy?

so, i have a new thread idea.  if you had to make an ig album, one album
that is, that would be the soundtrack of your life, what would be on it?

here's mine:

side 1
strange fire  (who gave you the power to interpret calvary?)
everything in its own time  (all around the table, white haired men have
gathered...)
center stage  (i'm an academic--it speaks for itself)
i don't wanna know  (i don't wanna find out what i left there for)
the wood song  (if the weather holds, we'll have missed the point)
world falls  (all the beauty just keeps shaking me)

side 2
ghost  (you come regular like seasons, shadowing my dreams)
left me a fool  (when it comes to flesh and bones, you remind me of shallot)
you and me of the 10k wars  (a moment of peace is worth all the wars behind
us)
cedar tree  (and for my only love i planted a cedar tree)
fugitive  (i stood without clothes, danced in the sand...)
jonas and ezekial  (i don't know, it just feels right)

yours,
chris ii

3-reunion (ahh..those hs days all comin back to me now )
4- love will come to you (such hope in this song :-> )

7-you left it up to me (strong enough to watch you walk, but not enough to
understand--whatta line!!!)

hi everybody!

i was just doing a little surfing and discovered this book, which is
compiled by elizabeth zipern, dar williams and other friends.  this book
is a:  "a guide to natural food stores & eating spots with lots of other
cool stops along the way".  it goes on to say:  "at last, the second
edition of the tofu tollbooth, a book by and for travelers that helps
you to stay healthy at home and on the road. the tofu tollbooth is a
treasure trove of hand picked natural and organic food stores and other
great places to stop, eat and take a breather in the forty-eight
contiguous states. it's the essential guide to good eating."

anyways, ig content is coming!  they have a list of people who praise
the book with a quote from each and one of those people is amy ray who
says, "for the vagabond vegetarian the tofu tollbooth belongs on the
dashboard and in the backpack of any wandering minstrel who yearns for
an alternative to cows and chickens."

you can check out the site at http://tofutollbooth.com/

i just thought you guys might be interested.  :)

1200 curfews - hal leonard (published in '97)  hl00690136

shaming of the sun - not available yet per ladyslipper - should be published
late '98 according to their winter catalog. their catalog has a "hl" before
the item number - guessing the publisher is hal leonard, too. ladyslipper
has 1200c and rop songbooks in stock now  (www.ladyslipper.org)

3~ "river"
4~ "crazy game"
5~ "the wood song"
6~ "least complicated"
7~ "strange fire"

in a message, one bug writes:

<<  1- what ig guitar song/chord books are out there and where can i find
    them to purchase?>>

you can buy them pretty much anywhere.  call around.  you'll probably find one
store has swamp ophelia and 1200 curfews, and then another has sf and self
titled, and someone else'll have nomads laying around . . . however, *cough*
i'm personally not a huge fan of the song books, and think that -- especially
if you're just starting and probably won't be diving into hideously complex
things -- you'll find things better for you on the 'net.  try:
<a href="http://maikon.net/davem/archive/main/i/indigo_girls/">index of
/davem/archive/main/i/indigo_girls</a>

but, hey!  the sots songbook is apparently coming out soon!  i got a
ladyslipper catalouge a while back that said so, and i guess they'll reserve a
copy for you and mail it asavailable, etc.

<< 2- could anyone tell me their opinion on what kind of guitar to buy?>>

i'm all for starting small-ish.  i've got a used guitar which is by no means
making people quiver in its presense.  but while i payed about $120 for it,
people i know with $300 non-used guitars get worse sound and much worse body
work.  so, i've had a great time with my used guitar, which would have cost me
hundreds more if it had been new.  so there you go.

there was my 3 cents.

i too received a common pond catalouge.  it seemed a tad out of my price
range for things i have minimal interest in purchasing.  *guilt*  i feel bad
and will probably buy some soap to give out as christmas gifts, despite the
fact there are better things for me to spend my money on . . . because 1% of
the profit does go to a good cause.
does anyone know more about emily's affiliation with this?  is this here
thing . . . what's going on?  i'm sorry if i seem ignorant . . .

an indigo soundtrack of my life:
(if i were a movie, in no particular order)

1) closer to fine
2) secure yourself
3) world falls
4) watershed
5) hammer and a nail, i guess . . .
6) least complicated
7) language or the kiss
8) dead man's hill
9) fare thee well
10) caramia (long story... )
11) hey kind friend

12) and then, of course: chickenman!!!

steve at sclark@cen.com, i expect he'd appreciate the assistance.
