ok, if one of my favorite songs were an animal, what would it be and why.
galileo would be a dog because galileo was good and was subject to his world.
aren't our dogs just victims or subject to the worlds we create for them?
dogs just take what we give them and they are all good.

2) if amy and emily were family relatives, who would they be?
a & e would have to be family i didn't yet know because i am unlike any of my
other family members, but i feel a kinship to a&e.

3) what film do you think already existing a
and e songs make the best soundtrack?
closer to fine for dead poet's society.  the lessons in that movie reflect
some of the things a&e have taught me and brought me to being closer to fine.

i just heard a tiny tidbit of news on the radio -- they say "the clash
tribute album" is due out in march.  they listed a bunch of people on it,
all of whom escape me at the moment, and didn't list ig, so it may not be
the same one, but more likely, they just didn't list them cause they
aren't as hot as the people they did list (i think i remember no doubt...
that's really all though).  it's supposed to be a benefit for the l.a.
children's hospital.

for people who weren't around earlier, ig reportedly recorded a song for
a clash tribute album a while ago.  the song was clamp down.  i'm totally
ignorant about the clash, i hope i got that right.

1. let's see....caramia reminds me of a bird...eagle maybe....because of the
way the music starts out smooth and gradually soars until the crescendo when
the band stops and emily and amy sing forte, "and there's a sea full of faces
and a show to go on!" .....reminds me of that pink floyd video, learning to
fly, where the guy jumps off the cliff and turns into an eagle.....call my
mushy, but the crescendo is very powerful and it just gets me *right there*
2. if amy and emily were relatives.....they'd probably be the cousins that i
admired a la distance, but could never get the nerve up to get to know :)
3. and if they ever made a movie about my life...well there ya go....

>1) if your fab fave ig song were an animal, what would it be, and why?

hmmm...you mean i have to pick a favorite?  bbbbuuttt...i'm a
libra...aren't i exempt?

lessie--if "love will come to you" is my favorite song, then its a fuzzy
kitten, the kind that knows just when to climb into your lap and keep
you warm and remind you that you don't suck as bad as you might think.

if my favorite song of the moment is "touch me fall" (or "cut it out"),
i'd have to say a snake...something reptilian, fierce and maybe even
dangerous, but beautiful and independent.

if my favorite song is "chickenman", its probably a mongrel dog.

if my favorite song is "strange fire", its the birds out my window in
the middle of the city, singing when i least expect it.

2) if amy and emily were family relatives, who would they be?

on better days (or worse, for that matter), i like to fancy myself
amy-ish.  very moody, driven, given to shifting from reclusive shyness
to vocal...well...loudness with little given notice.  able to get hung
up on small details, obsess, throw myself passionately into artistic
endeavors...have been known to say "whatever"...

i suppose my mom could also fall into the amy category, or my cousin
jared.  they're, umm, vocal and opinionated.

emily...my cousin kamila (age 10).  willowy and introspective, mature
far beyond her years.  sensitive, but also strong in a lot of ways that
people don't see right away.

>3) i'm running thin, here, but to what film do you think already
existing a and e songs make the best soundtrack?

foxfire (a great flick, if you haven't seen it...heck, the main
character, "legs", has a huge amy streak in her...needless to say, i was
smitten).

peace,
shel

hello all,
well, after my relationship broke up finally i am back with a new =
address (email and home).  i have missed you all bunches, but i have =
finally gotten things straightened out.  for those eof you who offered =
support when i was beginning to go through this thing thanks.  and now =
off to the questions.

1) if your fab fave ig song were an animal, what would it be, and why?
i would have two choices for that on first of all "it's alright" would =
be a monkey i could just see it swinging from tree to tree be carefree =
and happy singing it's alright as it hunts for survival.... and touch me =
fall would be a panther, i guess that the vocals that amy did on this =
and the arrangement reminds me of the panther stalking it's prey until =
the chase begins through the jungle....to the ultimate climax of the =
kill. a little gruesome i know but i do love that song.  always wanted =
to make love to that one.(sorry had to throw that one in)

2) if amy and emily were family relatives, who would they be?

they would have to be the two either unmarried or widowed aunts who live =
in the same house and where you can always go for a fun time or for =
support when you dont want to tell your mom that you just wrecked her =
brand new car or when you just broke up with he boyfriend who your =
parents hated anyway but you need a shoulder to cry on about it.  they =
would also be the aunts who made the family reunions bearable because =
they always would have a beer in a cooler in their car to sneak out back =
and drink while the rest of the family fights over who gets to carve the =
damn turkey or....who you wouldn't mind being banished to the kiddy =
table with....you know the  fun ones.

3) i'm running thin, here, but to what film do you think already =
existing a
and e songs make the best soundtrack?

the movie practical magic could have used some of amy's darker stuff for =
its soundtrack, and i would love to have heard leeds on the city of =
angles soundtrack.

sorry so wordy, been unable to be myself for a while so it is all =
starting to poor out of me.  man it feels great to be back. =20

peace love and light

speaking of tanner, i was wondering...  in soy when amy sings "my
friend tanner she says y'know me & jesus ... i keep fuckin' up"  is
amy saying that tanner says that tanner and jesus are of the same
heart.  or is amy saying that tanner says that amy and jesus are of
the same heart?  i've wondered about this one for awhile.

another case like this is in prince of darkness.  when emily sings
"when i asked my father for a dollar, and he gave it a $10 raise".
did emily's pop give her 10 or 11 buckos?

just curious,

hmmm....

<< 1) if your fab fave ig song were an animal, what would it be, and why?>>

weird question!  but let's see.  i'm going to disregard the "fave" part and
say (in the interest of time -- you come up with an animal for chickenman!)
that power of two would be a golden retriever puppy.

<< 2) if amy and emily were family relatives, who would they be?>>

speaking in terms of a generic family (they don't fit in mine), i think emily
would be the warm-fuzzy aunt who always bakes for family events; she's got
like four kids, and when you used to sleep over at their house, she would have
you all make toll house cookies, and then hug you goodnight and tuck you in;
the aunt who could kiss you without it bothering you.
on the other hand, i think amy's more like either the older cousin who keeps
to herself at gatherings; the aunt who never married whom the older aunts like
to speculate is gay when she's not there (every family's got one); or the
grandmother who lives into her 90s and all the grandchildren tell their own
kids and grandkids about her, despite the fact no one ever *really* knew her.

hey, if i'm ever bored, i should write a soap opera-esque novel wherein all
the characters are either amy or emily!

<< emily would have to be
my niece, kind of shy, but precisely expressive, and always exactly right
whenever she does actually open her mouth.  she's 6.>>

i never thought of emily like that at all... hmph.

1. my favorite indigo song(of the moment).... shed your skin.....would
have to be a young dog. extremely intense and involved in everything it
does, but with softer moments when it is at rest.does that make sense?
the softer moments being the languid background vocals, with the vibrant
intensity throughout the rest.

2.amy would be my father.... very committed to all that he believes in,
yet still on the bus for a good time, both with friends and family.never
willing to let others dictate who he is.
emily would be my cousin lynn.... extremely inside herself with thought,
but strong in mind and word to the point of being almost too direct when
she has an opinion.

3. films...aah. has anyone seen "clearcut" with graham green? pretty
weird but i can see their songs and ideas working well within the flick

i hope i made some sense here.

        hey y'all -
somebody posted awhile back about the www.kissthisguy site and the
fact that there are no ig lyrics... i told my roommate, who promptly
visited the site and tried to post a michelle malone bungle (she always
heard "lose weight" in the chorus of blue suede) and it turns ou the guy
who runs the page isn't accepting submissions any more. oh well. but i was
talking to my friend katie tonight, and she had a great one, so i thought
i'd share...
a few years ago, somebody gave katie a mix tape with love will
come to you on it. it took her about a month to figure out that the lyrics
in the chorus in point of fact were *not* "it's as if i offered up a
crystal bottle of brew" but rather "as if i offered up a crystal ball to
look through."
well, i thought it was funny, anyway...

hi folks,

=====
emily's place

by bo emerson, the atlanta journal-constitution

you start out as just a decatur girl with a guitar, playing for
free at a local pub. you work hard, write songs and rise to
become an international star. your records go multi-platinum,
and your concerts sell out.

then you can do what you really want to do.

if you're emily saliers, what you really want to do is sweep
floors and bus tables.

it's an unusual career arc. saliers, 35, the redhaired half of
the uber-folkie duo indigo girls, usually seen onstage in front
of the waving hands of thousands, has worked her way down to
wiping off counter tops and serving up sandwiches. when her new
fans wave, they want refills.

customers coming into her restaurant, watershed, once a gas
station, now a pale-green boutique/eatery on the edge of downtown
decatur, usually know that saliers is one of the co-owners. yet
they are invariably surprised that this star, who takes her own
caterer with her on concert tours, is cleaning up their dirty
dishes.

"is she still here?" asks technical writer catherine mesa, 34,
stopping in for a grilled eggplant sandwich. "i keep thinking that
she's going to be gone, and she's still here."

having saliers pick up after them is, for some customers, a
disorienting experience. "my neighbor was really freaked out by
it," says mesa.

others get a huge kick out of meeting saliers and are put at ease
by her matter-of-fact manner.

landscape designer sylvia elwyn, 46, is sharing lunch with mesa
(including pumpkin soup, grilled eggplant and a slice of cranberry
pear buttercake). she gets saliers to autograph a watershed-logo
baseball cap for her 16-year-old daughter, allison. sylvia and
allison were in one recent night, and allison, a major follower of
the indigos, found herself chatting with an idol. "it made her
night," says sylvia. "allison was in awe."

the truth is, saliers and her three nonfamous co-owners didn't
open watershed because they love menial labor. but restaurants and
scut work go hand in hand.

"we didn't foresee the amount of work, the amount of time and the
amount of money that would go into it," says saliers, nibbling a
wild mushroom torte during a break. "but if there's something that
needs to be done, then you just stop everything and do it."

"there's been some gawking," jokes co-owner susan owens. "but it
hasn't been overwhelming."

even chef scott peacock, formerly of horseradish grill schleps the
occasional dish out, especially if the customer is his mentor, edna
lewis. (lewis, southern cuisine diva, stops in one sunny afternoon
for a glass of wine and says the place is "fantastic." peacock
quips, "your check will be in the mail.")

saliers' main responsibility is keeping the wine bar stocked and
choosing the inventory for the small wine shop in the back of the
restaurant.

she has experience in the food business, not all of it positive. as
a 16-year-old waitress at the glass oven, a chain restaurant in
northlake mall, she was known for spilling food on customers. "i knew
i wasn't cut out for that line of work," she says.

luckily for her, watershed doesn't offer table service, so any such
food accidents are the customers' responsibility.

saliers says her dose of hands-on labor has had a mysterious positive
effect on her music. "though i have less time to write, i've got more
songs coming out than i have had in years," she says.

indigo girls go into the studio in february and will probably be
touring again next summer, says saliers. but right now she's enjoying
staying in one spot.

"it's all been a joyful experience for all of us," she says. "i'm not
tired of it. i like it here; it's a nice place to hang out."

it's also a nice way to get together with her decatur-based family.
and here they come: parents don and jane saliers and sister jennie
saliers (visiting from baltimore), all stopping in for a bite this
same afternoon. says the rev. don, a theology professor at emory
university, "i've seen her more in here than i have in months."

emily gives her parents a big hello, but reserves most of her
attention for 6-month-old nephew bryson levisay, who gets danced
around the room, and fed a custom-concocted lunch. "this is organic
puree of gruel," says emily.

bryson doesn't have much to say, but judging from his gummy smile,
this customer is going to leave a big tip.

"it's all been a joyful experience for all of us. i'm not tired of
it. i like it here; it's a nice place to hang out."

hi, i'm a man :-)  i think the "man of the year" is an interesting idea,
and i don't see a problem with the title (as long as women are
candidates; and they are, as far as i know).  hmm... i'd probably go for
someone like mother theresa.  i would definitely not vote for matthew
sheppard though.  i don't really understand the idea.  he, himself, did
not do anything.  it seems that people are making him out to be a hero
of some sort, when, i'm sure, he was just a regular guy who had no
plans, or ability to change the world.  his death may have helped the
gay rights movement, but that was hardly up to him.  i'd vote for
someone who has directly effected world peace, hunger, environmental
problems, invented something, etc. etc.  sorry to seem so callous about
matthew.

hey all!

i love reading about emily in the restaurant!

she sounds so happy!  i would love to go there myself and see what all the
excitement is about.  it is cool to see this side of emily.  we get to see
what amy loves to go on her off time, the record label, but i think it is a
rare treat to see this personal side of emily.  i have met amy twice, while
emily seem to slip away form the adoring fans too quickly.

i do have a favor ... there were 2 posts in my box today about emily. i got
the one from sherlyn but i seem to have deleted the second one by mistake.  if
anyone has it, could you please forward it to me?  thanks in advance!

babs-who is also in heaven because she has a very clean bedroom for the
first time in months!

i just wanted to remind everyone to vote for the vhi artist of the year.  i
think you can do it online, or call 1-800-vote-vh1.  sarah mclaclan is a
nominee, along with sheryl crow, madonna, and bonnie raitt.

hey everyone,

i want to see if anyone here could help me out.  i'm looking for a cd
that is only available in the boston area, and there is no way possible
that i can purchase this cd via the web or by phone.  (and living in ohio
prohibits any quick physical access).

it's in the boston area in the "fresh picks" music section of any of
the "star market" stores.  on the website i'm about to paste, it gives a
list of stores in which it's available.  (and a description of the actual
cd).  it's called "this is mix music-class of 98.5" and here are some of
the people included...

sarah mclachlan
melissa etheridge
indigo girls
barenaked ladies
lisa loeb
eagle eye cherry
etc....

http://www.mix985.com/cd985_more.html

reward:  i have quite the array of bootlegs for many different female
artists, including some videos and other paraphanalia (sp?) :)  so i will
pay for the cd, shipping, and give a bonus that would depend on your
interests.

thanks for your help!

amy is definetely quoting what tanner says about herself, ie (tanner)
and jesus... and amy responds by telling tanner to forget about her
worries by saying "...come on down to chicano city park wash your blues

i just love this song...i always feel great after listening to it,

i'm sorry, sara m. *shouldn't* (imnsho) be artist of the year - for sakes
she did not even release an album (and should get negative marks because i
think i will go into some foprm of dementia if i hear "aida" on my commute
to or from work ever again, can you say oversaturation?) yeah she pulled
lilith '98 - but it lacked from 97 (again my own opinion)
in terms of musicians who did really innovative stuff, look at ani
who released lpc, did college, george and post george tours, and got married
too! look at billy bragg and wilco with mermaid avenue, that album
transcends most of the new stuff out there this year...
and for the igc, rem is nominated and rem basically is a big reason why ig
got signed to epic and you all owe your debt of gratitude to rem, who should
win and thus putting their record company some leverage for them to play a
mini up tour (mini meaning all the shows could easily be in new england, i
think if everyone in new england bought up, the record company could justify
it 8-) (course i'm being selfish and wacky - but if you need a x-mas gift -
buy up, it's amazing...unless you spot a copy of the new ani - then buy it
and give it to me (shamelessly trying to find up x 6, which is, no pun
intended the new ani album coming out next month...)

seriously here-
i guess in this holiday time - when we all want peace on earth and to be
with our loved ones - pray for the people of iraq and yugoslavia - they are
all innocent victims. a war puts things in totally different perspectives
tonight.

peace-
mike r.

i did vote for matthew shephard for the man of the year.  not because he =

em is my mom. or at least my mom when she last glowed, which, sadly, was
about 10 years ago. but i mean really, they look(ed) so alike.  you
ought to see a photo.  the hair, the eyes, the sparkle, everything.
right down to the fillings.  if only my mom had been given the
opportunity to live her dreams, maybe that glow would still be there.

...then have i got the gift for you.

i have, in my possession, one little man tate press kit (this is what
the movie company sends out to the media to explain their upcoming
film).  movie buffs collect them.

it's in a white orion pictures folder, and contains the following:
6 glossy black and white 8"x10" pages of film stills (photos), including
some cute ones of jodie;
a jodie foster filmography;
a 24-page booklet of production notes; and
a 10-page booklet of cast and credits

i found it, amongst all the other remnants of my foster adoration that
plagued me when i was 16.  it's in very good condition; it's pretty much
sat in a box for years.

best offer accepted.  email privately.

the new cd "restoration" by doria roberts is absolutely great!!!!  it was well

track on the 11 track cd.  if you purchase any cd this year (or the year

doria's track "self - love" from her 1st cd - the love & thepain (which is
also well worth owning) is on the thrive cd which is distributed by daemon

i don't know for sure how to get a hold of the cd at this point, cuz i got

hey everyone,

i want to see if anyone here could help me out.  i'm looking for a cd
that is only available in the boston area, and there is no way possible
that i can purchase this cd via the web or by phone.  (and living in ohio
prohibits any quick physical access).

it's in the boston area in the "fresh picks" music section of any of
the "star market" stores.  on the website i'm about to paste, it gives a
list of stores in which it's available.  (and a description of the actual
cd).  it's called "this is mix music-class of 98.5" and here are some of
the people included...

sarah mclachlan
melissa etheridge
indigo girls
barenaked ladies
lisa loeb
eagle eye cherry
etc....

http://www.mix985.com/cd985_more.html

reward:  i have quite the array of bootlegs for many different female
artists, including some videos and other paraphanalia (sp?) :)  so i will
pay for the cd, shipping, and give a bonus that would depend on your
interests.

in 1975, armed fbi agents illegally entered the pine ridge indian
reservation. gunfire erupted--a native american and two fbi
agents fell dead. after the largest manhunt in fbi history, three
men were apprehended--only one, leonard peltier, was convicted
of murder and sentenced to life in prison. this is his story. from
the very beginning, peltier's case has been dogged with
controversy. were the charges trumped up, was the evidence
falsified, were witnesses pressured to change their testimony?
many people, among them some of today's greatest legal minds,
believe that peltier is an innocent man. twelve years ago, robert
redford visited leonard peltier in prison. today, after years of
struggle with the fbi and the prison system, he and director
michael apted are able to present "incident at oglala"--a riveting
examination of the case and the real story of what may be one of
the most outrageous abuses of justice in american history.

hey all list folkies,
that's right, you read correctly. some folks in st louis, including wired
women (of which i'm proud to say i'm a part) are in the process of
producing the first annual st. louis women's music festival. the event is
to take place in tower grove park on memorial day, 1999. (i'm not 100%
positive about the date, there will be future updates.)

this festival is to include a variety of local, and hopefully a couple of
national female artists (such as laura love band) of several different
genres including folk. as i said, it's still in the works, and that's
where you come in!! we need to spread the news on this thing, so if you
pick up this message and belong to the ig newsgroup, other related folk
lists, or a st. louis area list please pass this on! also, we're looking
for sponsorship and donations. if you know of a business (small or large)
that might be interested in sponsoring such an event, please pass this on
or let me know. if you're interested in getting involved and helping out,
please let me know!! i'm really excited about this because st. louis has
been needing something like this for a long time.

if you're interested in helping out, passing on sponsoring tips, or
finding out more info email me back at wright@biodec.wustl.edu

most importantly, please pass this message on!

thanks bunches, folks.

        hey all-
i'm a few weeks behind schedule 9which should surprise nobody) but
the desyst (definitive edition shed your skin tape) is very near
completion. in lining up the live versions for side two, though, i noticed
a glaring absence - slthough i have more than enough live versions to fill
up 45 minutes, i don't have a single live version with ulali. and i feel
that if i'm going to call this tape definitive, there ought to be at least
one.
i know mail is evil this season, but will anybody who has a decent
(or more-than-decent, ideally) bootleg of sys with ulali on backups plese
email me to arrange a trade? also, anybody else with really stellar or
particularly interesting versions, please email me also - i haven't
actually recorded the second side yet, so i can make room for something
realy worth preserving.
        thanks -

buying music for christmas? beware!

washington, dec. 16 /prnewswire/ -- rock for life is asking music buyers to
beware of what they are supporting with their music purchases.  consumers are
urged not to purchase music from artists who help raise money and support for
the abortion industry.

"most people don't know where their money goes or what these bands support,"
said bryan kemper, founder of rock for life.  "many of the bands on our list
give donations regularly to different pro-abortion organizations. these bands
also use their popularity to raise money by playing concerts or donating
songs."

rock for life has compiled a list of different artists who support the
abortion industry.  much of the information for this list was found on pro-
choice web sites that openly promote their concerts and cds.

the list includes artists such as paula cole, jewel, carrie newcomer, keb 'mo,
ani difranco, madonna, bonnie raitt, jackson browne, melissa etheridge, shawn
colvin, bruce hornsby, mary chapin carpenter, pearl jam, l7, soul asylum,
soundgarden, salt-n-pepa, red hot chili peppers, sarah mclachlan, indigo
girls, face to face, dance hall crashers, bush and many more.  a complete list
is available on rock for life's web site, www.rockforlife.org

"when you spend money on these artists' cds and tapes, some of that money goes
to support the destruction of millions of babies.  abortion is the ultimate
hate crime.  we should not take enjoyment from the music of artists who help
to promote the destruction of innocent human life.  christmas is a time of
life and a celebration of life.  unfortunately, spending money on the wrong
thing this christmas can place the very gift of life in jeopardy for many
babies," kemper said.

rock for life is a division of american life league, the nation's largest pro-
life educational organization with more than 300,000 supporters.

i just looked in my bible and it was spelled "canaan", like it is on the album.
i've never seen it spelled any way but like that, but maybe you can spell it
either way.... afterall, the language back then was hebrew right?  so the name is
just an english translation anyway...  =)

we have the winners!

entry 9 (kathleen), 1 (andi), 13&14 (jilly), 2(summer), 7(jillian),
8(kelly).
it was a close call til the end. thanks for entering and voting. there
were some really great entries, i had a lot of fun collecting them, so
we'll do this again some time.

entries and votes at: http://www.5pmrevolution.com

the top vote getter by far was this truly cool story by kathleen aka
sissookie:

there are times when people do things that they never would have
imagined possible. september 2, 1998 was a day my life that fell into
that category.

it all started as a frenzied day. work was the pits, time stood still,
and the prize at the end of the day just added to the stress. all i
wanted to do was get
myself to philadelphia's electric factory early enough to plant myself
in the front row below amy's feet. this was the only area performance of
the suffragette
sessions tour.

the fantasy was this: give my capo to sulli and let her use it for one
song. in my right mind i would have laughed at the idea. not this time.
without thinking
about my actions, i slipped my capo into my back pocket before i left
for philadelphia.

the wait outside the building was exasperating. time again stood still.
the only bright spot was my placement in line. surly i could manage the
prime spot.
from within i could hear band members playing bits and pieces of songs.
emily played through the chorus of "midnight train to georgia" amy
stoked it up
with a few chords of "cut it out." oh, what a night it was gonna be.

by this time, i had forgotten all about my capo. all i had to do was
beat 20 people to the front and life would be good.

as i claimed my real estate at the stage, i noticed sulli walking around
doing her job. my heart skipped a beat when i realized what my fingers
touched in my
back pocket. "oh god, can i do this?" i said to myself. it's hard to
explain what it feels like to have 10 gallons of adrenaline dumped into
your blood. but that's
what i felt like. supercharge. the possibility of asking my favor was
squarely seated in my hands. all i had to do was open my mouth.

"sulli." i said. she turned and looked my way. oh shit. now what was i
gonna do. all i could do was pull out my capo from my back pocket and
hold it up.

"what's that? where'd you get that?" said sulli. oh great. i have to
talk again. couldn't sulli read my mind? dam!

"it's my capo." i choked. "please just use it for one song. or i'll
trade you. it's new, it's mine. it's works. it's not broken." i sounded
like a moron.

sulli continues: "toss it up here."

oh no! clever me hadn't thought about how the capo was gonna reach the
stage. all i could think was, please don't make me throw it up to you.
i'll miss.

i managed to lobe it up to her. with typical sulli grace she catches it
with both hands like it was an egg. thank god. i managed not to put up
an airball.

upon examination, sulli turned and walked off the stage. now, i'm not
sure, but it seemed like she was gone for years. i felt like everything
around me had
stopped moving. breath. breath. breath. that's all i could think.

sulli did return. she looked like an angle with a halo because of the
spotlight shinning down on her. "here ya go." sulli said with a calm
voice.

oh great. she's gonna toss it to me. oh god, i can't see, the spotlight
is in my eyes. one two three sulli motions with her arms. i calculate
the mental geometry
of where the capo was gonna land. four sulli lets it fly.

"i can't see!!" all i can do it hope i see it when it comes out of the
lights.

it lands at my feet. i'm down and up again within the blink of an eye.
sulli says to me "'ja get it?"

"yes!!! thank you!!!" that's all i could manage.

in my hands i look upon chrome plated capo with pink neon tape across
the locking bar. e-3 is the notation. emily has used this tool. (and on
occasion by
amy.)

when i think at how many songs have been played with this tool. how much
emotion has poured thorough her strings. my mind is boggled.

i still play guitar and on special occasions i take out emily's capo. i
don't know, but, every time i use it, i play just a little bit better.
my solos come out just
that much cleaner. intonation is improved. my fingers don't fight to
reach chords. i'm just a better musician. i guess i have a little bit of
good karma from
emily.

i can't help but think that on the rare occasions when emily clams on a
solo a little bit of my clunky karma is responsible. someday when i
travel back to
watershed. i'll tell her i'm the one to blame. i think she'll laugh.

subject:      radio free amerika.....an ig bootleg

i've had quite of bit of time to think lately because of all the things
going on in my life......

after listening to the kmtt cd and also ig on kbco vol. 9, i was thinking
that it would be a really great idea to use the power of this list to
create a bootleg.....radio free amerika (on cdr).  what i have in mind is
a collection of all the ig songs that are on radio station compilations.
here's my logic....the stations put these out as fundraisers for charity.
these discs sell out rapidly (in the cast of kbco within 1 or 2 days).
even if we all wanted one, we all couldn't buy them.  i don't feel like
we're cheating these charities out of money (since they get all the money
and some of us have already purchased 10 discs anyway).  the artists have
already donated these songs to charity, so they are not losing money.
it's a win-win for everybody (except the scalpers on ebay who charge a
fortune for these original discs).

so, my idea is to do this collection with ig songs off the various radio
station cds.  my idea is that we would need to get one person (with cd
burner) to collect the discs and put them together.  then we could burn
off a copy of the cd for everyone who helped supply an original disc.
afterwards, we could work on making a tree of it in some capacity.

i've given lots of consideration to doing this on tapes...however, given
the quality of tapes (after 2nd gen. the integrity is pretty much shot),
it's not worth it.  also, after seeing how tapes have been treed
before....it's a gamble on the quality you're getting (i've gotten some
good, but more often i've gotten some bad and even some horrible).
besides, these songs were mastered and produced (and sometimes recorded)
in a digital environment, so why not preserve that?

i've got access to a cd burner and would be willing to spearhead the
initial effort of collecting the discs....if others on this list feel
that this is a valuable project.  i'd also like to hear feedback from
people who have discs on which ig has done live songs.  i know they have
appeared on:
kbco studio c, volume 2 (jonas & ezekiel)....but i don't have this
kbco studio c, volume 9 (shame on you)...have it
kmtt (shame on you)...have it

so that's what i've got to say about that.  if you've got a disc not
previously mentioned and you think this project is worthwhile, i'd love
to hear from you.  or, if you are dying to spearhead this project, please
let that be known.  i'm all in favor of someone else doing all the work!
:)

so that's my idea.  let the dialog begin.

cheers,
l'sly

<< this isn't the least bit stuffy......they take their own caterer because

if they didn't do this they would get food from the venues' caterers where
they play and that food can range from crap to great!!!  they take a

me thinks i should clarify a tad, since some people couldn't read my mind (why
not?<g>)...

i didn't think it was stuffy for them to *all* have a caterer come with them.
i thought the writer meant emily had *her own* private guy traveling all over
creation with them whipping up special food *just for her*.  if what i thought
originally were the case, well... but otherwise, i misunderstood; i'd have
someone tour with my band too; no big deal.  =)

christmas in my soul

come young braves
come young children
come to the book of love with me
respect your brothers & your sisters
come to the book of love
i know it ain't easy
but we're gonna look for a better day
come young braves
come young children

i love my country
as it dies
in  war and pain
before my eyes
i walk the streets
where the disrespect has been
the sins of politics
the politics of sin
the heartless mess that darkens my soul on christmas

red and silver
on the leaves
fallen white snow
runs softly through the trees
madonnas weep
for wars of hell
they blow out the candles
and haunt noel
the missing love that rings through the world on christmas

black panther brothers
bound in jail
chicago seven
in the justice scale
homeless indian
of manhattan isle
all god's sons have gone to trial
and all god's love is out of style on christmas

now the time has come to fight
laws in the book of love burn bright
people we must win
for thee, america
her dignity
for all the high court world to see on christmas

christmas in my soul
christmas in my soul
christmas in my soul

come young braves
come young children

christmas in my soul
christmas
in my
soul....

joy to this world.....

i find it odd that pro-choice proponents seem to forget the importance of
personal responsibility. or is personal responsibility important at all? i
believe it is, but obviously many people in this country and this world
disagree.

>p.s.  i have yet to hear of pro-choice activists blowing up maternity wards or

the majority of pro-life activists are not in favor of killing abortion
doctors and blowing up abortion clinics. i know you're not saying that all
of us are, but i just thought i'd make that point. i see no difference
between killing abortion doctors and killing babies. let's stop this
abortion debate now before it gets out of hand. this list is definitely not
the place for it.

hey all.  i just bought my sister the dixie chicks cd for christmas.  she'll
love it, but before i wrapped it, i recorded it for myself b/c some time ago i
accidently heard "there's your trouble" on a country station and loved it.
anyway as i was recording the cd, i read the "thanks to" section and noticed
something all of y'all will love!  the lead singer, natalie maines wrote this
in her "thanks":

"...and finally thanks for the inspiration:  james taylor, bonnie raitt,
indigo girls, maria mckee, and john travolta."
-natalie

they seem a little too plastic, but that's probably sony doing that.  anyway,
natalie's voice is strong, and when i look closely at her pictures and listen
to her harmonies, i can see parts of amy ray and hear parts of emily saliers.

i don't know if it's been mentioned here or not, but the new daemon "big bang"
sampler is now available.  i got mine in the mail today, and it is amazing!!!

it's a multimedia cd-rom full of reviews, sound clips, videos, information,
etc. on various daemon artists - including belloluna, danielle howle, three
finger cowboy, terri binion, new mongrels, etc.   and it's only **$6.00**.
it also works in regular cd players as a daemon music sampler.

you can get it on the daemon web site:  http://monsterbit.com/daemon/

alright, alright...i have to say something here, and maybe it's not the forum
for it, but this seems to have been a public list topic, so i guess i'll keep
it that way.  i do feel that women and minorities alike do deserve protection
from discrimination.  i do feel like men and the "majority" deserve the same
protection.  i also feel that the aforementioned groups should have absolutely
no special rights whatsoever in the workplace or otherwise.  i would
personally vote against "affirmative action", etc.  i believe that
"affirmative action" is racial descrimination.  if anyone here can come up
with factual information to contest that, i'd love to hear it.  just as "equal
rights are not special rights", special rights are not equal rights.  did
anyone see the "king of the hill" episode about the disabilities act?  that's
exactly how ridiculous all of this nonsense becomes.  i am a female.  i am
gay.  i am a conservative libertarian.  sure, i can be identified as part of a
minority, but i'd prefer to be identified as sarah.  sarah the person, not
sarah the gay white female.  i want no special rights.  i deserve no special
rights.  i feel i should get the jobs i get and get the salary i deserve based
on my personal intellect and merit alone.  i don't want special help.  how can
anyone feel good about himself when he knows he hasn't actually achieved
anything, but gotten it by "affirmative action" or other unfair means?  does
anyone see this or am i the only one?  you may reply by private e-mail or to
the list, if, indeed, this is an appropriate topic for the masses.  the only
reason i suggest it be public is that maybe someone will read it and get
involved.  maybe we can corrupt someone. ;)  peace, love, and sheep, sarah

ok so - lately when i leave my apt - i leave the radio on for my cat
-i know it sounds weird - but my other cat died 2 weeks ago and i hate
leaving my other boy home alone...anyway -

i walked in my apt today and it seemed so natural to hear emily's
sweet voice singing river - and i started singing along.  i mean i am
always playing ig so it didnt seem odd at all - *until* i realized it
was the radio and not a cd...i have a new appreciation for 94.1
now...ha.  it was a nice surprise...

it's cool when good stuff happens when you least expect it.

happy holidays -

sorry for the bandwidth but there is a bunch of great shows on right now!

i have a question for anybody that's ever been to eddie's attic (sorry
to waste bandwidth for those who haven't).  i was just wondering if
their "number system" will apply to the songwriters night show on the
27th, and if so, if someone could explain it to me a little better....
i read their page and it said you need to get a number at 4 pm.  but,
does this mean that if you go with a group, everyone in the group must
be there at 4 also to pick up a number?  or do the numbers go by group?
i know it's supposed to be a simple system, but for some reason
(blondness maybe...hehe) it confused me.  and also, what time do you
need to go at night to the show?  do you have to be there early so that
when they call your number you don't miss it and can get in the door?
it seems to me that if they call each and every number to go be seated
it would take a long time to get everyone in....
so, would anyone who's been there and understands this system please
explain it to me?  =)

thank you soooo much,
sharon
=)

p.s. we're going to the early show, so if anyone is going to that one,
i'd love to say "hi!"  =)

hey all, can i offer up a random music recommendation?

this woman, chan marshall.  she is just amazing.  she's in this group.
well, i guess it's a group, but it just sounds like her and her guitar.
sometimes a little flute in the background. the group is called cat
power.  they're on matador records.  the cd is called moon pix.  please
please please go listen to it.  you can smack me over the head with a
menorah if i'm waay off base and you wind up hating the album.  see?
that's how absolutely certain i am that this woman will flick your bic.
per se.  (but do note that jami k was 3 steps ahead of me and was the
one who recommended them to me, nutty little indie-goddess-in-khakis
that she is).

anyhow, go to
http://www.matador.recs.com/bands/catpower/index.html
to read a bit (the article is screwy, i don't quite get it, but then
again i didn't have much time to read it... like, it's written in the
past tense.  as in, 'chan marshall *was*...'.  hm.  some writer trying
to be wakilana or something).  some sound clips are also available there
for your real audio enjoyment.  do it, man!  please.

it ain't bragging if it's true, yessir, yessir... (--dan bern)

not at all true.  i don't want to get into a major discussion here -
you're opinion is yours, and mine is mine - let's just agree to
disagree.  but aa is needed and is intended to bring some equity to the
work place and academic settings - to give everbody the same chance.
not everybody was born into equal circumstances, some a whole lot more

this might be interesting to uk listees (i know there has to be some of you.....)

there's a documentary on channel 4, at 12.40 on tuesday night. it's called "righteous babes", and possibly will include ani and ig content. it could be interesting, as we don't often see the ig, jewel, or even sm on uk tv.

oh yeah - jewel is going to be touring in the uk next year......

y'all, we have a problem.

nigc discussions are starting up on the nigc list and ending up here. i
agree with elaine on the topic for the record and in a way i'm glad the
earlier post did not go unanswered, but let's continue this, if we must,
on the free for all list and keep it out of this one, ok? sarah quoted
my post to another list and took it out of the context of its
discussion. both lists have their purposes, this one is about ig. please
follow up any responses to the freeforall list: and beware, that's where

most certainly.

>but,
>does this mean that if you go with a group, everyone in the group must
>be there at 4 also to pick up a number?

no.  at 4, only one person in your party needs to be there to get a
claim check number.  you tell them how many people are in your party (so
they can keep a running head count and decide when to stop giving out
numbers).  also, you can tell them at 4 that you want to go to _both_
shows.  when you pay later to go in for the first show, they just charge
you twice when they stamp you.

i went to the show on 11/18 and there were people lined up outside who
had been waiting since 11am.  but i got there at 3:30 and got in and
still got a stool to sit on.  that show was on a wednesday, though, and
this one will be on a holiday weekend so who knows how early some people
might show up.

>and also, what time do you
>need to go at night to the show?

usually one hour before show time, they start calling out the claim
check numbers.  (6pm for the 7pm show, 8:30pm for the 9:30pm show).
when you get your number at 4pm, just double check and ask what time
they'll start calling out the numbers.

>do you have to be there early so that
>when they call your number you don't miss it and can get in the door?

you just have to be there (i.e., your entire party) when your number is
called.  it's kind of a mob but it's not unruly.  they take their time
calling out the numbers so as long as you're inside the building, you
can hear them calling out the numbers over the p.a.  the official policy
is that if you don't have the exact number of people that you asked for
when they call your number that _nobody_ gets in, but i've also seen
them be lax about this if somebody doesn't show.  (but that's not the
official policy so i wouldn't trust that they'll let you slide on a
given night.)  if you show up after your number's been called, the
official policy is that you're out of luck.  (again, i've seen them be
lax about it on occasion, but it's not official so i wouldn't count on
it.)

hope that helps.

apologies but the email has been down and i just must say that opinions
like these (you know who you are if you wrote it - no need to point direct
fingers):

"i also find it odd that only one side of the issue seeks to impose it's
viewpoint upon the other.....pro-choice does not mean anti-life.....yet
pro-lifers would take away choice.....my sympathies are definitely with
anyone wrestling with this most difficult decision....."

make me very sad.  it's all about generalizations sometimes.
