[sherlyn's note: this is from the list at netspace.org.  it's
not exactly news but i figured it would be of interest to
some of you - lyrics to one of amy's new songs...]

i saw amy do this song twice last weekend (once in memphis at the soundcheck
and once in starkville during the show, as a prelude to scooter boys).   but
i'm not really sure that she's saying faye or fred.   i was under the strong
impression that she was saying fred, but now i'm not so sure.

this is how i heard the song, as she sang it in starkville:

on the night they killed fred tucker
i was gambling away my last dime
well i pulled down the lever
and i sent up a prayer
that my luck would not be denied
that my luck would not be denied

i said roll out the head of fred tucker
never you mind what they say
well you may be reborn
but it just got you scorned
that's what you take to the grave
that's what you take to the grave

well mister wants you to live now
and the governor wants you to fry
and whatever it was
that you thought might occur
they've got something else on their mind
well they've got something else on their mind

well if you live they'll make you campaigner  ??????
if you die they'll make you look brave    ??????
either way it goes down    ???????
where you got some  ?????
i said that's why killing don't pay
i said that's why killing don't pay

i said what did you learn fred tucker
what will you take from this world
yeah, well mercy could prove us
but nothing would move us
to rise above just being cruel
to rise above just being cruel

scooter boys and argentinians................

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.  the author posted one more
time and stated that she'd left "ghost" off the setlist the
first time around...]

i just got back from the virginia slam concert.  this was my first indigo
girls concert and all i can say is that it was a spiritual experience!!!!!  i
got to irving plaza at around 5:00 and there was already a nice line.  they
opened the doors at around 7:15 and the show started at 8.  after
standing--yes, standing--through 2 hours of opening acts, finally the girls
came on.  i was pretty close to the stage, so i got a good view of a&e.

the setlist...oh wow.  i'll try to remember...all of this will not be in the
exact order.

shame on you
it's alright
power of two
shed your skin
caramia
scooter boys
joking
i don't wanna know
galileo
least complicated

cut it out
closer to fine

i know i must have left something out but my head is still spinning.

i never got to see the beatles, who i worshipped 20 years ago.  instead, i saw
groups like heart, run-dmc, the ramones, joan jett, which were all ok,
but...i've been starved for a really great group.  finally, a band has come to
replace my love for the beatles and i am talking about the indigo girls.  oh,
they rocked so hard tonight.  it was incredible and i can't wait to see them
again.
