hey all,
the cover story in today's calendar section of the la times is on the
lilith fair.  the girls weren't even mentioned in the list of headliners
that the author gave :(  but they were mentioned three other
times...(mistakes are mine and all that...)
first, there is a little pic...amy's playing accoustic and emily's
playing
electric...and the quote next to it says "they "were an amazing influence"
on lilith last year, mclachlan says."
second, when the author said that sara mclachlan doesn't have the
"camp-fire enthusiam of the indigo girls"
third, when they quote emily...."emily saliers, half of the indigo
girls,
only knew mclachlan by her music before the duo joined the tour last year,
but she was impressed by mclachlan's spirit and commitment.  "at first, in
the press conferences, i think sarah was kind of finding her way around the
issues,...things like the purpose of the tour, whether there should be men
on it [as lead performers]," saliers says.  "over time, she became very
solid in her beliefs and about the tour.   she saw it as a celebration of
women and music, especially music."

line-up: me'shell ndegeocello, erykah badu, indigo girls, natalie merchant,
and sarah mclachlan (in that order).

some ig highlights:

*from where i was sitting i got to watch amy and emily dancing and grooving
off stage during me'shell's entire set. :) they obviously really dig her
music. (amy still can't dance but then again neither can i. wow, we're
perfect for each other.)

*ig and the lead singer for k's choice doing neil young's "rocking in the
free world." i love that song and they kick ass doing it -- and i've never
seen them perform it live before. :)

*natalie merchant ran onto the stage and started dancing and whirling like
a dervish during "scooter boys" (which rocked, as usual. i love how that
song always whips the crowd into a frenzy by the end.)

*at the end of the show most of the performers (see below) got on stage and
sang marvin gaye's "what's going on" which was really cool. emily sang one
verse and backup, amy just sang backup.

why didn't me'shell and erykah join the other artists on stage during
what's going on? (they were also absent for ctf.) that struck me as kinda
weird since they had *everyone* else (all the 2nd and 3rd stage singers
too) on stage for wgo.

i'm sure i'm forgetting some other cool ig moments but i'm still really
tired, that was a long drive home. i'll let others fill in.

these are the songs i remember from the ig set (not in order): tried to be
true, power of two, galileo, rocking in the free world (w/ k's choice),
water is wide (w/ sarah), ctf (w/ sarah, natalie, k's choice), scooter
boys, shed your skin. did i forget something? i didn't write anything down.

a great concert and a gorgeous venue. exiting the parking lot left
something to be desired though. ;) you'd think they would have a system
worked out by now.

let us know what happened on sunday at the gorge. :)
