i just watched the live broadcast of cnn showbiz today. (it gets
repeated tonight at 3 - 3:30 am edt.)
it began with a montage of lilith fair clips -- performances, press
conferences, previous reports, etc. then came the live interview with
sarah mclachlan -- it was a short and breezy. she did mention that the
best part of it all for her was playing with the other female artists --
and she named ig first. the interviewer tried to dismiss the notion of
any feminist agenda or slant to lilith -- but sarah didn't let it go --
and instead actually embraced the concept of lilith fair helping to
achieve feminist ideals for women musicians. (way to go, sarah!)
then they went on and did several other showbiz stories -- and there was
a very brief (less than a minute) live (not on stage) performance by k's
choice.
then... finally... at the very end of the half hour -- 2 minutes and 24
seconds of ig performing gotm live. again, not on-stage, but backstage
in the little interview tent -- and the last minute or so was only shown
in half-screen during the closing credits. <grrrr!>
but it was still cool to watch. the camera was seriously right up in
their faces. the first time it got right up into em's face -- she almost
started laughing as she was looking at someone off camera -- it was
pretty funny. amy seemed kind of shy at first with the camera so close.
my favorite moment was after the end of the first verse -- emily did her
famous gotm "yeeee-haaawww!" -- even tho they were playing it pretty low
key (for ig) -- with just a&e and jerry sitting right behind them
playing very low key (for jerry) percussion.
it was cute, but much too short -- and they didn't even get to play the
whole song... but, earlier they certainly showed plenty of footage from
george clooney's new bad movie... <sigh>
:o)
peace,
