indigo girls to launch 12-city tour

the indigo girls have announced post-lilith fair plans to do a
two week, 12-city club tour with several of their favorite musicians,
beginning in mid-august. despite the all-female lineup, the traveling
revue that has been unofficially dubbed the "suffragette session tour," is
not meant to be compared to lilith. "its more based on bob dylans rolling
thunder revue than lilith, " says a rep at the bands label, epic records,
referring to dylans famous 1975-76 traveling revue that included likes of
roger mcguinn, joan baez and others performing with dylan.

the indigo girls will perform alongside a variety of musicians, including
kate schellenbach of luscious jackson, jane siberry, jean smith, josephine
wiggs, thalia zedek, gail ann dorsey and lourdes perez. the tour is
scheduled to launch on august 19th in portland, maine, and wrap up with a
show at the roseland in new york city. at press time, eleven of the twelve
dates were confirmed by epic records via their web site.

indigo girls in suffragette city

the indigo girls are putting another all-female show on the road.
after a stint with the mighty lilith fair, the girls have decided
to go organic and stage a series of grass-roots shows, dubbed the
suffragette sessions tour. hitting the road with them will be
drummer kate schellenbach from luscious jackson, former breeder
josephine wiggs, singer-violinist lisa germano, canadian
chanteuse jane siberry, bowie bassist gail ann dorsey, lourdes
perez, jean smith from mecca normal, and singer-guitarist thalia
zedek from indie supergroup come. and in a move that's sure to
inspire brainstorming (not to mention cycle influencing), all
12 performers will be traveling in the same tour bus.

while both lilith and suffragette are all-female, the
similarities end there. unlike lilith, these concerts will have
a definite "jam" vibe going on, with participants joining each
other in various combinations, creating unique and spontaneous
music each and every night--that, and the stages will be much
smaller than the huge venues lilith has been playing.

the apparent inspiration for the show comes more from bob
dylan's 1975-76 rolling thunder revue, rather than sarah
mclachlan's creation. the former tour saw a varied cast of
musicians (dylan, joan baez, kinky friedman, t-bone burnett, bob
neuwirth, and others) indulge in collaborations on small stages,
creating a much looser, free-wheeling energy.

the suffragette sessions tour kicks off aug. 19 in portland,
maine, and wends its way through cities east of the mississippi
until its end date in new york. the tour will be playing in
relatively small venues, ensuring the preservation of the
intimacy such a tour invokes. audience response will determine
whether or not the suffragettes will make this an annual event.
