subject: [ig-news] merriweather 2 review excerpt

hey folks,

there's a review of the second merriweather post pavilion
lilith here:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/wplate/1998-07/20/109l-072098-idx.html

following is the ig-related excerpt:

- --
indigo girls amy ray and emily saliers earned the most fervent
and consistent crowd reaction, thanks to their close harmonies,
spirited playing and ingratiating enthusiasm. their set
included such sing-along favorites as "galileo," "get out the
map" and "closer to fine," the hard-hitting "shed your skin"
and "scooter boys" (whose three-guitar, three-cello, three-drum
setup fueled an allman sisters groove) and the new, elegantly
wistful "gone again." but indigo girls also seemed to best
embody the lilith spirit with a warmly familial reading of the
band classic "the weight" -- with additional verses performed
by phair, second-stage acts rebekah and kacy crowley and
drummer jerry marotta -- as well as a gorgeous "the water is
wide," enriched with soaring vocals by mclachlan and pam
fleming's ethereal trumpet lines.

subject: [ig-news] cd/tape boot offer -- merriweather 2

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]

i got a good dub of the ig set at merriweather post pavillion in columbia,
md on sunday.  it sounds great, but i have to give it an a- because of a
few rude talkers.  it's not enough to be distracting, just a bit annoying
in a very few places.  i've mastered it onto a 55 min. cd as follows:

track 1:        chickenman
                galileo
                shame on you
                ghost
                shed your skin
the weight (w/ rebekah, kacy crowley, jerry marrotta, natalie merchant)
water is wide (w/ sarah mclachlan)
closer to fine (w/ sarah mclachlan, holly mcnarland, et al)
track 2:        what's goin' on (encore, w/ all; lots of emily & rebekah)

i am willing to make cd-r boots of this for about 15 branches, who must
send me a cd-r and an sase.  in turn, branches agree to make at least 15
copies, cds or tapes, for others.  under no circumstances is anyone to
profit from this distribution, it is for your personal enjoyment only.

if you're interested, please reply to this message privately, and (this is
*important*) specify whether you can make cd and/or tape copies.  i'll post
to the list when all branches have been selected.  please do not reply if
you don't know how a tree works, or if you're getting ready to go back to
school and won't have time, or if you don't have decent equipment, or if
you just bought this cd-writer thing and you think you can figure out how
to work it, or if you can't get around to mailing me your media for a
while... a tape tree works best if the root and branches are somewhat
professional about the endeavor.

with all that said, if you still want to be a branch <g>, send me a message
privately and i will notify you *only* if you are selected.  if you are not
selected as a branch, watch for the leaf announcement, which should go out
around late august.  with 15 branches there should be plenty to go around,
so please, serious inquiries only for branch positions.

the real girlie show
the indigo girls are taking the estrogen-driven lilith fair concept to
the next level. the duo has put together a short club tour featuring
female artists only. the suffragette sessions tour is loosely modelled
on bob dylan's rolling thunder review of the '70s. the participating
artists will sit in on each other's sets and there will be no one
headlining act.
in addition to indigos amy ray and emily saliers, the suffragette lineup
comprises jane siberry, ann wilson of heart, violinist lisa germano,
kate schellenbach of luscious jackson, josephine wiggs of the breeders,
lourdes perez, thalia zedek of come, jean smith of mecca normal and gail
ann dorsey.
the eclectic collective debuts at the state theatre in portland, maine,
august 19th.
