i really don't know wahts going through the lilith fair people's
heads...but they *still* think the girls are going to europe!!!

here's the most recent news on the lf webpage:

this was a show that no one was looking forward to (no offense anyone).
it didn't
have to do with anything other than it was the last day for the indigo
girls. in the
two summers that we have got to spend with amy and emily and their band
and
crew, we have grown to admire and respect them so much. they put
everything
into their show each and everyday and the way they work with other
artists is
something that no one else can do in quite the same way. many tears
were shed
on this day. thanks for everything you gave us, amy and emily! we'll be
thinking
about you often and good luck in europe!

i thought the lf people were going to europe but, thats obviously not
what they are saying (if they were it'd say "we'll miss you while we're
in europe").  well, waht they said was nice about the girls...but where
is this europe stuff coming from!!  i thought we checked this out...they
are *not* going to europe...but the lf people persist.
hmmmmmmm...............

about the igs performing outside north america this year, amy said no in the
"lesbian news" interview in the july '98 issue:

heidi hudson: what is it like touring outside the us?

ar: we used to tour a lot more outside the us, but this year we'll only be
doing canadian dates but no uk, europe or east asia. we love touring outside
the  us, but we have very small cult followings and for those reasons it's a
completely different experience but its really rich because you could easily
play in small places. it takes you back to your beginning of your time here.
it's cool. it's not something that we feel we want to develop a massive
career in the world. it's a lot of ground to cover. i think we just feel
like we just want to play places and enjoy the music for what it is and not
be over-ambitious and conquer the whole world. its a little unrealistic for
us.

luscious jackson drummer explains suffragette sessions;
ann wilson added

luscious jackson's drummer kate schellenbach was kind enough
to explain just what the heck will be going on during the
indigo girls' suffragette sessions tour, and tip us off the
to the latest addition to the tour -- heart's ann wilson.

as previously reported, the suffragette sessions tour
(allstar, july 10) will feature a a bunch of female artists --
indigo girls' amy ray and emily saliers, schellenbach, gail
ann dorsey, jane siberry, lourdes perez, lisa germano, mecca
normal's jean smith, come's thalia zedek, and josephine wiggs,
formerly of the breeders -- performing together. shonen knife
are the opening act for the show.

"i'm the drummer for the whole thing," explains schellenbach.
"how it works is, everyone's on a roster, there's 11 musicians
who pick two to three songs they want to do, and you pick
among the people on the list. like, i want josephine to play
stand-up bass and ann wilson to sing backup and so on."

schellenbach says tapes are being sent out to participants,
and then the group has three days of rehearsals planned before
the 12-city tour starts on aug. 19.

"i haven't seen a [tape] yet, though, and since i'm the only
drummer, there's a lot for me to learn," she says. "i saw amy
ray, and she said she wrote a song for the event. there will
probably be some cool covers and some original stuff. josephine
and i are talking of covering a kostars song called 'roll the
dice,' which is not on the record." the record she's talking
about is klassics with a "k" by the luscious jackson side
project that wiggs produced.

"the indigo girls are so into collaborations and are super
musical," adds schellenbach. "every time they play, they have a
billion people coming up onstage with them. it's such a
refreshing attitude to be so open."
