[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.  here's another review for
those of you wondering what the suffragette tour is like...]

ok so i'm back and have had some sleep.  i can form cogent thoughts
again :)

opening band, zola turn. (?).  well, all i can say is that i'm a folkie.
the music didnt appeal to me, but that's jsut me.  i dont know
enough about that style of music to really be able to comment on them,
but some of hte baigls around me seemed to really get into them.

then the main set--first, it was kinda short. clocked in at just about
an hour and a half or so. everybody on stage (and there were a lot
of poeple up thre) seemed pretty excited about being up there.
i agree with lauree that the stage set up needs to be adjusted
some.  there weas a lot of equipment so it was sometimes hard
to see people like gail ann dorsey and josephine wiggs, and it
did look like an ig fronted band.

jean smith (mecca normal) and thelia zedek (come) were the edgier
side of the scene.  jean's lyrical and singing style reminded me
of grace slick.  thelia was cool...mostly played guitar but also
played clarinet on some songs.  you dont see that every day :)

they were sort of the "loud" contributors.  most everyone else
was much more acoustically based.  i really like dthe pieces
from just about everyone.  it was great to hear the ramped up
version of "power of two"...nice to see that ig arent afraid to
"mess with" their songs.

amy struck me as being more tentative than anyone on stage.  she
actually played lead guitar on a couple of pieces and she
was very tentative.  she was also tentative at the mike.  though
as noted, i'm not sure how much of that was nerves and how much was
the sound mix.  there were a few times when the vocals were almost
completely lost in the instruments. it would definitely be
intersting to see how people relax over teh next two weeks.

i think one of my favorite peices had to be the last song,,,
jane's "flirtin".  it was fascinating to watch her "direct"
the stage through the song, and to watch everyone follow her
lead and then try to come up with lyrics when jane passed the mike
around.

all in all, i thinkthey were all having fun though definitely
still trying to find the groove.  the spanish additions courtesy of
lourdes perez were beautiful.  it'll be interesting to see
if those changes make it into recordings of new songs like
nuevas senoritas and go go go.

so if you can catch one of these shows, do!  it's unique and fun.
