i originally posted this message to the indigohio list, but
in light of recent events it seems relevent here, too.

e-mail me if you want your stuff back and i'll send it.
otherwise i will copy it, burn it, convert it or whatever
when i have time to do so.
>>

i have everyone's stuff here in the original package(s) they
came in, not just from indigohio, but from the ig list as well.
i'm not stealing anyone's stuff and i have no intentions of
keeping it for any reason.  i simply haven't had the time to
record everything for everyone.  i also had cd-writer problems
last month.  about 15 blanks to replace the ones people sent to
me in their package that my writer ruined.  so i ate that cost
because it was my fault.  i also had to pay to have the writer
repaired (bad write-laser diode).

i have burned over 700 cdrs for people on the ig list.  i have
scanned over 20 tapes and converted them to cdrs.  i have spent
literally!! hundreds of hours working on this stuff.  i just
don't have the time to sit here in large blocks and get
everything out.  it's done evenings and weekends when i'm at home
or when i was sick, etc.

in all the work i've done for the ig list and indigohio i have
not asked for anything.  a few nice people have sent me an extra
blank now and again.  i got a really cool cd opener (it cuts the
plastic off the blank so it's very easy to open).  i had someone
send me a $20 check which i ripped up and a couple people have
sent me $5 for return postage with a note saying "keep the change"
when return postage was only $3.  so i have been given a very few
number of things by nice listees.  i have not asked for anything
and i'm doing all of this for free.

i have taken off work today and gone through for everyone who's
been bitching here lately and whipped their stuff out (except
<ellieden@bellsouth.net> who sent me about 8 tapes to convert to
cdrs (about 4 hrs each) five of which i have finished).

everyone will get their stuff back and everyone will have
whatever they've asked for copied or burned or converted or
whatever.  it just takes time.

--------
now if anyone wants to call me up and question my sincerity, or
stop by my home or work here is how you can reach me:

rick c. hodgin                  directions:
481 beverly drive               take i-465 to us-421 north, go
zionsville, in  46077           about 3 miles until you cross
(317) 873-3818                  the bridge over eagle creek.
the next left is willow road.
there's a big red sign on the
right for autum oaks, but turn
left (not right) and follow until
                                woodside drive, that's after
the bend on the right.  the
first left is beverly, and i'm
that house on the corner of
                                woodside and beverly.  bricks,
white trim, blue honda civic in
the driveway with the "indigo girls"
                                banner in the window.

zionsville welding, inc.        directions:
5580 west 96th street           take i-465 to us-421 north, go
zionsville, in  46077           about 1 block to 96th street, turn
(317) 873-2472                  left (west) and go to the last building
on the right before you hit zionsville
road.  it's right across from panhandle
eastern, or dow elanco.  it's a white
building, on one side is peter's
industrial forklift company, on the other
is zionsville welding.  go in the red
door and ask for rick.  i'll be there
                                8a-12, 1p-5 and then i'll be home.

utopia (night club, thursday nights)    directions:
924 north pennsylvania          take i-65 south through indianapolis to
indianapolis, in  462??         meridian street exit, go through two lights
to pennsylvania, turn right, the next light is
10th st.  park somewhere there and walk south on
the west side of the street.  go in where you
see the big "indoor" sign sticking up above
the buildings.  ask for "rick".  most everyone
there knows me.  if you wait long enough you'll
see me on stage performing ig songs.

friends.....

those of you who know me in any way know that i would never intentionally do
anything that would hurt or offend anyone, yet it appears that i may have done
so in the recent past.....

in the past year i have found these lists to be a wonderful forum, and i have
enjoyed many of the deep discussions that have grown out of tangential issues
like the recent sexuality thread.....when jen lucero asked that the thread be
taken off the big list, i invited those who wished to continue the discussion
to do so on the egroups list, with tigger's blessing.....a few folks asked if
i could repost some of the better posts from the thread, and i did.....

today i received a note from one of the authors, voicing concern about the
security of the egroups site, and asking that the post be removed.....i have
since removed all of my posts from egroups.....

my only defense is ignorance....until very recently, i have been unable to
access web sites due to the limitations of an old, slow computer with limited
memory.....my online activity has been restricted almost entirely to email
lists and private email....

please accept my extreme, heartfelt and embarrassed apologies.....

peace,
tim

which imnho won't slow anyone down who would have been a "problem reader" of the
posts--bosses, personal enemies, even the police.

this is complete and total nigc, but this is a good time to point out to all in listland
that anything you say over the internet should always be considered "public" unless you
understand--and use--secure encryption. private email is not quite as convenient for
unauthorized persons to read, but it is insecure, too.

even with encryption, you're only private from fellow users, not governments and
institutions with serious computing power and money--and who's to say whether the
computers of five years from now might not be powerful enough to make today's secure code
look like swiss cheese.

the text of a plain-text list whether like the egroups list or like the
rather-too-much-moderated big list can never be made secure. the politeness of some
courteous individuals means that we don't snoop or use what you say against you, but when
you say "security" it's not the polite, courteous folks your worried about. counting on
the good behavior of others is not a form of "security" or "privacy."

someone snoopy, who has perhaps learned a little about you and knows you like the girls,
only need subscribe to the list and !bang! all is open to them. i keep archives of
interesting posts from recent months; most lists have full-text archives somewhere or
another. these archives can be searched by essentially anyone. even if search were
restricted to listmembers, it takes only a few minutes to join either list. no lying is
even required. you can fill out the forms as joe curious, cia agent, and you still get
access.

i still get an occaisional question or followup to things i posted to a fairly obscure
native american discussion list three and four years ago. the lists don't even exist
anymore, but there are archives out there somewhere......

remember: anyone can read what you post to the net. there is no security for mailing
lists. there is no privacy for mailing lists. there is no security for mailing lists.
there is no privacy for mailing lists. repeat this until it feels second nature to you,
then think and act accordingly.

it may feel secure here on our list, because of the friendly faces we see posting and
replying, but beleive me, it's not even private, never mind secure.

fire up yahoo, look under computers, privacy. read what you find.

happy paranoia to 'ya!

hey yall -

so hey - some of yall know that about a month ago one of my cats died
- (*sigh*) - (my cats are *it*) - anyhoo - last night - i went to the
humane society and got a baby (i felt like my other cat needed a
friend).  i had been there twice - and had also gone to another
place...i think the whole scene has driven me crazy!  it's so hard to
go to places like that and see all those animals in cages - i find
myself imagining what their lives are like...and then i find myself
feeling like i have no control...i want to adopt them all. it makes me
so damn *sad*.

well!  i did adopt a little boy.  he's gray.  he has a big head and
feet - and hasnt quite grown into his body yet...*how cute!*.   he's
just sort of awkward right now...ya gotta love that.

i named him martin!!!  im sure yall see the correlation here!?  right?
oh it fits him perfect!

anyway - im snowing outside and im feeling so cozy here inside - and i
just wanted to share w some kind friends of the new addition to my
family...*grin*

take care yall -

hey all-

a while back, a listee named r. davis, of smyrna ga, said [s]he had
about a half-dozen copies of a magazine with ig on the cover, said
[s]he'd take the first people to reply about them, and would send the
magazines out, for just a sase.  [s]he said to send the sases out quick,
because [s]he was moving.  remember?  well, i'm looking for the other
handful of folks who snagged one of these magazines, so please email me
if you're one of them.

and this has been nagging me for a while:  someone sent me a blank, for
a non-ig boot (shawn mullins or patty griffin, i believe) and i just
can't shake the feeling that i didn't get their boot out to them.  i
have no clue who it was.  if this is you, email me about that too.

hi everyone,

just wanted to share this bit of information. the funny thing about this: my
good friend who sent me this information is not an ig fan. i want to thank him
for seeing the light and taking the time to send it to me. i guess ever since
he found out that amy ray thinks that axl rose and guns & roses is a great
band, he has softened his position on the ig. (now with a little bit more
effort.. maybe i'll get him to a show)

i'm not sure where the info came from, but it helps to have a bit of a time
line for the next ig recording.

>>>>>indigo girls hit the studio in february

one of the hardest working duos in show business will
be getting back on the bus in february.  the indigo
girls, who have been writing new material for the
past six months, will head to london to record new
tracks with sinead o'connor's band during the first
week of february, according to a spokesperson for
epic records.

whether or not the girls work on any new tracks with
o'connor herself depends on the singer's schedule
(she's currently working on her own album with
producer dave stewart (allstar, dec. 22, 1998). the
duo will be recording one or two new tracks at the
home studio of o'connor's drummer.

the following week, the duo will head to their
drummer jerry marotta's home studio in woodstock,
new york to work on a few more tracks before heading
back to their hometown of atlanta and recording the
remainder of the new album. a producer hasn't been
chosen yet.

a few songs the duo performed on last year's
suffragette sessions tour (allstar, july 16, 1998),
including the amy ray-penned "go," may turn up on the
new album, their seventh studio effort overall and
first since 1997's shaming of the sun.

good news in general, but what does this mean for the have-a-heart

i thought the girls always recorded their songs at the congress house
studio in austin, texas.  does anyone know why they aren't doing that for
this new album?

hi all...

to those of you who are in search of the copies i offered a while back....
please accept my apology for the ridiculous delay that has occurred.... in the
course of relocating there was much confusion... i am finally in a sedentary
place and am in the process of making good the promise of sending those
mags.....

to refresh memories... the mags have shawn mullins on the cover and pics of
amy and emily from the chiapas benefit...

to ensure that everyone that was promised a mag receives one.. i would very
much appreciate if everyone who received my addy would email me.

once again i apologize for the delay.

hi all....

despite my previous track record... lol... i'm taking another stab at putting
out another offer....

i am currently in possession of an ample supply of a stammer & stomp mag that
has the amy interview with joan jett.  i also have 2 copies of that article on
amy in the 99xpress (yeah the one where she looks green). i am in dire need of
unloading them.. and unfortunately my only other option is the recycle bin...

so if you're interested, all it'll take is an email (within the next 3 dys) to
let me know and a sase (for $.55)

i also have an acoustic guitar (the one w/ jerry garcia on the cover) that has
a feature article to offer for trade....

well that's all for now....

did somebody say road trip? (i am so so kidding, don't think i'm *that*
insane)( now if it were thalia zedek, dang, i'd *rollerskate* to england
if i had to).

jill

p.s.-- gillian anderson is on the cover of both _jane_ and _redbook_
magazines this month!  (redbook???  eeeewy...  not surprisingly, the
interviewer therein was fixated on the fact that gillian had no
husband/boyfriend/emotional fuckwit in her life -- and therefore was
seriously *lacking*-- and how she was going to rememdy this situation.
i had to laugh, though, at one point in the interview:  the magazine
reporter makes a comment to her about how the *male* viewers view her as
a sex symbol.  they ain't the only ones... wonder if she knows that?)

just wanted to let everyone know there have been a few changes
on my site... i've added an index page, a links page, a guestbook...
among other things.  try typing "we dig ig" or "twink!" or
"cooper seay" into the netword box and search... i've created
those networds to link directly to my site.  or type in something else
and see where you end up!

easiest place to start now would be the index page - though i have
added some menu bars to the bottom of each page to make things
more user-friendly.  please do let me know what you think of those
changes if you have a minute.  i'd appreciate it.

thanks,

        hey all-
i guess it's the paranoia post (i forget who sent that one)
combined with jill's comment about voting for gillian anderson over a&e
for most intriguing, or maybe it's just because i go to college, but i've
been noticing a lot lately that seems to be a very large overlap between
ig fans and xf fans. am i off-base here?
in fact, when cruising xf pages on the web i think i found
something useful: a lot of the pages had swils written at the bottom -
which, i discovered, stands for straight women in love with scully. that
sounds familiar, i thought. so i propose the term swilar (and swiles,
although that one might get used less) for this list.

okay, the article that somebody posted earlier today (i'm sorry, i
forget who) really scared me, and so i called the attic. the guy on the
other end said he didn't have a list in front of him, but last he heard,
both of the two acts everybody wanted to hear about (i.e. shawn mullins
and indigo girls) were taken up with other pursuits and so would *not* be
at the benefit. what he said wasn't totally conclusive - i will probably
call back in a few days and whine at them to make sure - but it's really
not looking too promising.
on the bright side, pretty much all of the other standard faces
(mm, ca, etc) will be there. but considering that i'm coming from philly,
i'm not sure it will be worth the drive.
i'm sorry to be the bearer of mostly bad tidings.

allstar 1998 artist top 10 lists

today's guests: indigo girls' amy ray, possum dixon's byron l. reynolds,
sevendust's lajon, jason falkner

we asked a bunch of musicians, as well as some producer/ remixer types,
to list their top 10 favorite albums of this year, in the hope that this
may shed some light on their taste, their character, and maybe even the
year in music.  one warning: some artist choices may not actually be
albums; some may not have actually been released in 1998; some may even
be so obscure that we can't possibly confirm their existence. and some
artists... well, clearly they're just toying with us. whatever. they're
artists. peruse at your own risk.

amy ray, indigo girls

(in no particular order)

1. fugazi, end hits
2. the butchies, are we not femme?
3. mrs. fun, groove
4. danielle howle and the tantrums, do a two sable
5. 3 finger cowboy, kissed
6. come, gently down the stream
7. lisa germano, "reptile"
8. rose polenzani, dragersville (www.rosepolenzani.com)
9. air, moon safari

hey kind friends & intimate strangers,

today, my guitar-playing brother told me that in the back issues of
acoustic guitar that my dad has, there is an article on the girls and
music to one of the songs by amy ray.  he teased me and thought that i
would rush over to my parents' bedroom to see it.  but, i just stayed
calm, knowing the magazine didn't have feet.

later that afternoon, after my nap, i was eating watermelon seeds in my
parents' room and my brother came in.  i said, "do you know where the
song is?"  and he said, "yeah, the indigo girls are on the front cover."
(duh.)  "oh, and there is an article here, too, with some juicy stuff--"
(he knows how obsessed i've become this past year.)

so, delightedly, after he was done torturing me, he laid the magazine in
front of moi, and i leafed through it, and read about the girls
(somewhat fascinatedly, since it was a long conversation, and it touched
on technical guitar work).  well, you can read the article if you'd like
at lifeblood:

http://www.lifeblood.net/articles/1997/9709.html

and see the front cover here:
http://www.acguitar.com/issues/ag57/ag57.html

big sigh.  "oh what joy it is to see, ig on ag!" ("jingle bells")

still in that holiday mood,
diane

p.s. who's going to see "playing by heart"?  i am, i am.  (who salivates
at the commercials of the movie and the potential chemistry between jon
stewart and gillian's characters.)

here's a handy way to remember.  think of them as the yin yan --> emily is the
strawberry-blonde and writes the "lighter" songs and has a higher voice; amy
the brunette who writes the darker, heavy, more "rocker" type songs, and has
the deeper voice.

hey, even amy is an x-files fan.  star trek too.  (that makes me feel
good.  i have the same taste in tv as amy ray!)  i think she is also a
gillian anderson fan.  have you seen that half-naked picture of gillian on
her amp?  i couldn't stop gawking at that when they were here for
suffragette sessions.

there's a picture of david duchovny on the same amp (although he's
wearing a bit more than gillian anderson is in her picture). i knew to
look for it at sst because of a picture i saw on the lilith fair website
(i'm sorry, i can't recall the date, but it was one of their very last
shows with the 98 tour) that somebody had taken of their amps.
        mandy

p.s. how can anybody who watches that show *not* be a gillian
anderson fan? (says the swils) she's one of the most talented actresses
working today.

i'd like to know the dates of the following shows:

gaillard, charleston sc (set lists begins with cortez the killer, least
complicated, three hits etc.)

new haven, ct  (galileo, shame on you, power of two, three hits etc.)

live on mountain stage (gotm, dgtcag, po2)

acoustic cafe

also i have a mesa az boot from 8-26-97 but for some reason this date
doesn't seem right, does anyone know if it is wrong and what the correct
date may be.

thanks in advance for your help!

well, if it were just one person and not a list of one hundred, i
honestly don't know whom i'd choose - possibly the dalai lama, maybe
hitler or winston churchill (realize when i say hitler that i name him
only as somebody who made an impact, *not* necessarily a positive one).
but as one (or two) on a list of one hundred, i am voting for amy and
emily. i realize that this doesn't stand on its own, because after all
they are musicians and not politicians or religious leaders, so here goes:
i think they stand as a true example of moral courage in a time
when almost all those who are supposed to offer moral guidance have failed
us. and for better or for worse, people like this are almost always
appreciated more in retrospect.
secondly, i think they are representative of a couple of very
major trends in the last ten to fifteen years. first of all, they're some
of the best-known homosexual celebrities there are. their trials (such as
the whole irmo high school mess) could easily be taken as a microcosm of
the gay struggle against oppression. i believe history will vindicate the
homosexual movement, and those who are seen as carrying the banner in the
fight against oppression will be remembered for the impact, both
short-term and long-term, that they made.
secondly, they have been at the forefront of the lilith fair
generation of women musicians. while that in and of itself doesn't merit
the kind of recognition we're talking about here, this shift in the music
industry is often cited as a major indicator of the state of the women's
movement today (and i've seen it used as an example both of progress and
of backsliding.)
lastly, there has been a trend in the past five years or so of
famous people supporting a cause. if this trend continues (and i sincerely
hope it will) it could end up having a serious impact on the twenty-first
century. and we all know that ig have been down in the trenches doing good
since long before it was fashionable. i realize that this last is
projection, but oh well.
        no, i don't think they'll win. i don't think a lot of their impact
even registers yet. and i realize that tis pov is very 90's-centric.  but
i do think that as individuals and representatives of broader causes they
are indeed loom large in the history of this century.

please get the album.  please please please.  if only because amy ray

for me.  aaaaaagggggghhhhhhhhhhhh  i want to swear, i want to spit a

okay.  so, the point, calmly, being:
come is a great band and they are so amazing,
you really should give them a try (although i recommend near life

hey, amy ray likes 'em. (not to name drop or anything)(and not to assume

okay, i'm a practicing catholic and i personally feel those people who
voted for jesus christ as person of the century need some smelling

century. i mean in the flesh that is...perhaps there should be a

and i think a lot of it depends on whether or not you consider
people worthwhile candidates in the capactity in which they represent

so i was browsing the web at 3 am the other day, in an insomiac

of my favorite sites, http://whoosh.org, the online home of the journal
of the international association of xena studies.  to my great amusement,
one of the episodes from the second season of xena is titled "intimate
stranger."  (i've seen the episode before, but i never noticed the title
. . . basically it's about xena being trapped in callisto's body.)  and
in my sleep-deprived state, i started drawing vague parallels between
xena and gabrielle, and amy and emily . . . i couldn't (fortunately,
perhaps) draw anything beyond the obvious hair-color one . .
.nevertheless, it was quite funny . . .

arts out there

by tom sime

01/08/99

amy ray is now a theater angel as well as half of the indigo girls. pam
myers-morgan of echo theatre company got a package to the singer after a
recent concert at the majestic theatre - "just like a groupie," according to
echo co-founder suzy blaylock. the envelope contained an introductory letter
and a copy of the script for the play ms. myers-morgan was planning to
direct, claire chaffee's drama why we have a body.

next came a postcard from ms. ray saying "how much she loved the play, and
that she'd love to help financially, and to let her know when and how," ms.
blaylock says. it was easy to answer those questions, and a generous check
arrived shortly. (they won't say how generous.)

at the company's weekly meeting at northpark's corner bakery, "we brought
the check in and gave it to pam, very ceremoniously," ms. blaylock says.
"and she stood up and screamed in the middle of northpark. she was shaking.
it was really kind of scary." the check was not only cashed, but copied and
framed.

no word yet on whether ms. ray will be able to attend the play, which opens
thursday at the bath house cultural center. "it all depends on her schedule.
i'm sure she'll let us know if she's coming. i doubt that she'll just show up."

either way, "it's a real coup for us. it's not necessarily going to bring
people in to see the play, but it does at least show that someone who's
respectable in an arts field believes in what we're doing." and the episode
proves that it never hurts to ask - as any real groupie could tell you.

part of what echo's doing is outreach to women, and in addition to
attracting a bit of female-friendly mass-media money, the company has
introduced an innovative new strategy: a theater workshop for kids ages 4 to
8 during matinees of body, which is for mature audiences.  saves
baby-sitting money, "and it's not just a baby sitter. it's an
opportunity for kids to learn something," says ms. blaylock.

the bath house cultural center is at 521 e. lawther, near white
rock lake.

01/08/99

"why we have a body' by echo theatre

with a little help from a friend, echo theatre continues its exploration of
plays by women with the area premiere of claire chafee's why we have a body.
plans to produce the award-winning drama caught the eye of amy ray of the
indigo girls, who became the play's "angel" by providing a hefty check. the
story is about women helping each other, too. lili (jo schellenberg) tries
to balance relationships with her lover, renee (linda marie ford), and her
emotionally disturbed sister, mary (kelly thomas), all the while haunted by
the absence of lili and mary's estranged mother, eleanor (linda comess).

tom sime opens thursday at 8 p.m. and plays wednesdays through saturdays at
8 p.m. through jan. 30 at the bath house cultural center, 521 e. lawther.

arts out there

by tom sime

01/08/99

amy ray is now a theater angel as well as half of the indigo girls. pam
myers-morgan of echo theatre company got a package to the singer after a
recent concert at the majestic theatre - "just like a groupie," according to
echo co-founder suzy blaylock. the envelope contained an introductory letter
and a copy of the script for the play ms. myers-morgan was planning to
direct, claire chaffee's drama why we have a body.

next came a postcard from ms. ray saying "how much she loved the play, and
that she'd love to help financially, and to let her know when and how," ms.
blaylock says. it was easy to answer those questions, and a generous check
arrived shortly.

"it all depends on her schedule.
i'm sure she'll let us know if she's coming. i doubt that she'll just show up."

either way, "it's a real coup for us. it's not necessarily going to bring
people in to see the play, but it does at least show that someone who's
respectable in an arts field believes in what we're doing." and the episode
proves that it never hurts to ask - as any real groupie could tell you.

part of what echo's doing is outreach to women, and in addition to
attracting a bit of female-friendly mass-media money, the company has
introduced an innovative new strategy: a theater workshop for kids ages 4 to
8 during matinees of body, which is for mature audiences.  saves
baby-sitting money, "and it's not just a baby sitter. it's an
opportunity for kids to learn something," says ms. blaylock.

the bath house cultural center is at 521 e. lawther, near white
rock lake.

30 at the bath house cultural center, 521 e. lawther.
each show is preceded by a reading of patricia montley's short play juice at
7:45 p.m. saturday matinees are jan. 23 and 30 at 2 p.m. for mature
audiences. $10 to $15, with pay-what-you-can admission on wednesdays.

hi, all.  just thought i'd ask if anyone else caught the "mississippi: river

will be on again (or a continuation of it anyway) tomorrow night from 7 to 8
cst

by the way.... hi.  after a brief hiatus from the list, the high priestess
of amyism has returned.  now i know that i owe boots to someone out there.
the reason i know this is because i have a little stack of tapes which are
not mine.  if anyone at this time would like to speak up and claim these
tapes, tell me what i owe you or whatever, please feel free to email me
(dragonjen@spydee.net).   and while we're discussing boots, does anyone have
anything more recent than valdosta, 10-97?  that's the most recent boot i
have.  i'd like to get some new-album stuff, like "go" and the other songs i
was hearing so much about before the list went nuts.  schpeek to me!!!  :)

was performed at oberlin last year.  she was the "mentally ill" sister,
who, if i remember right, is a career criminal.  just brilliant.  her
performance and the play, i mean.  and wasn't claire chafee, the play's
writer (producer?) an oberlin alum?  i think so.  anyhow.  the piece is
quite possibly the finest small-scale, feminist theater i've seen. soooo
good.  see it if you can, or, if it's not being performed, grab some
women and put it on yourselves, it's so phenomenal.

come will be playing in utah (for the love of god) on january 24th and
25th, at mulligan's irish pub, for the sundance festival.  i believe my
man tim and his band $2 guitar will be opening for them.  if anyone's
interested.  i have no idea where mulligan's is, not even the city.  i
also have no clue what sundance is.  i think i'm just way too bitter
that they're *again* bypassing ohio, which is why i refuse to dwell upon
my geographically-challenged existence long enough to find out this
show's specifics.  so, intrepid west coasters who want to see who this
thalia woman is that amy ray and i adore so much, do a net search or
something to find out where that pub is, cause you'll definitely want to
catch this show.

harummph.

and i just played my first song ever on the guitar.  it was kumbaya.  i
was so happy i was a bit teary. go ahead, laugh.  but save this email,
cause someday when i'm famous, you can print it up and i'll sign it and
you'll fetch quite a price for it! oh ha.

great!  just when i get out of utah something cool happens!  grrr!!!!!

anyway, i have to share, i'm so thrilled.  yesterday i was just kicking back
and i put in rop in the living room and my 4 year old sister was in there with
me.  i skipped to chickenman just cuz and she just started listening with this
intent look on her face.  then they get to the chorus and she says
"chickenman!  how silly!", which at the moment is her phrase for "cool".  i
asked if she liked it, she said yes and immediately demanded we "tango", or
her version thereof.  so we danced to chickenman five times in a row and i
have the newest ig fan guarding my stuffed cougar to make sure it doesn't run
away.  <sigh>  now i know why i up and relocated, switching colleges and all
-- it was all for that single experience of  "tango-ing" to chickenman.:)

peace!

sounds a lot like my dillemma!  what's more important, eating well for
six weeks, or a good electric guitar, at a price that i will never see a
guitar of that caliber at again?
of course, i opted for the axe, which is just like michelle malone's

hello everyone!
i have a couple of comments tonight. first, when i went on line tues. to check
my mail and found nothing from the list, i too went into withdrawal, and i've
only been a member for a couple of months! i was glad to see it was not
serious. second, in response to beccie's query concerning "what you would do
to follow in amy and emily's footsteps to make the world a better place"...
well, i felt obligated to write. i am a teacher who has found in the past that
it is often easier to keep quite than to speak out. since i discovered their
music about 9 years ago, i have found it more difficult to remain silent. i
realized this year that i have become extremely vocal in the classroom and no
longer tolerate complacency on my part or prejudice of any kind on their part.
my students who follow religions other than christianity have stated how
refreshing it is to have a teacher who sees merit in their views. my gay
students know they have an adult they can trust when they just need an ear.  i
sponsor amnesty international and encourage discussion of alternative
political views. i am known as "weird" to some. i am now far more comfortable
in my profession and i feel i do make a difference for many. the indigo girls
music has encouraged me to speak out and prove to my kids that i care. i thank
them for that encouragement and message. well, off my soapbox. sorry i took up
so much space for my first post. thanks to all of you for sharing your
thoughts and letting many know you care.

since i put out the original question....hmmmmm where do i start...first of
all, the honesty in their music has really helped me to live my life
honestly......and they have shown me how to stand up for myself......every
time i have had a problem or a tragic experience.....ig has been there for
me...the friends i have made from the big list are ones that i will treasure
always......ig has taken a scared little girl and helped to transform her
into a strong independent women...and for that i will always be
grateful...not to mention the fact that amy is a babe,.....tee hee had to
add that sorry for being so crass......tee hee but it is late and i am

you know, i really love this station more and more all the time . . .
especially these late nights i've been up working furiously on this story
i'm writing.  the ig song tally for this station so far (at least, so far
as *i've* heard) is:

galileo (which played on my way to work this evening, yay)
get out the map
shame on you (only heard this one on there once, for some reason)
tried to be true
least complicated (i keep hearing this on that station when i wake up)
closer to fine
hammer and a nail
watershed (only caught this one once)

original versions of songs ig have covered:

tangled up in blue -- bob dylan
romeo and juliet -- dire straits (playing right now)
rockin' in the free world -- neil young
melissa -- allman brothers band

incidentally, not only does one of their station ads have a clip from
"get out the map" in it, but there's a new one with "least complicated"
playing in the background while dj nicole sandler talks.  i actually got
to meet her at the chris isaak concert at the pantages in l.a. (where i
work as an usher) last month--though unfortunately i was able to work the
first night, but not the second, when shawn mullins opened for him!
*cry*  as you can guess, i did manage to tell her just how much i love
the station and how they have a great playlist and a lot of variety in
the songs they play from various artists . . . for instance, they've
played "similar features," "bring me some water," "come to my window,"
"the only one," "i want to come over," and (i think) "nowhere to go" by
melissa etheridge . . . but like i'll stop rambling now, lest the l.a.
people who can't pick this station up very well decide to kill me because
i *can* pick it up really well . . . and i know audra would kill me too.  :)

hmm . . . and as i close this email, they're playing "crazy life" by toad
the wet sprocket, which is on the honor 1 compilation from daemon records
. . . go figure . . .

1) i bought a guitar and am getting into music again
2) i have become more accepting of myself as a lesbian and, as such, have a
deeper committment to my relationship
3) i have become more politically aware and more politically active
4) i have become more "plugged in" to the underground music scene
5) i am more in touch with my almost forgotten southern roots
