i just watched out at work on hbo... no i didn't tape it, sorry (i
turned it on late). besides being depressing in just the subject matter
itself, it was more disturbing because that last story is in my back
yard.
i grew up in the city next to trenton (where the engine plant was) and
worked in the city while i was in high school. i know some people who
work at that plant.
and now i work in auburn hills michigan... right next door to the
chrysler tech center that they were showing. ugh. it was weird seeing
those protesters on the street i work on. that really made it hit home
with me. just felt like sharing.

peace,
amy

indigo girls working with sinead's band

the indigo girls, the folk-rock duo from georgia, are busy working
in england on several tracks for their yet-untitled new album with
the members of irish chanteuse sinead o'connor's backing band. the
arrangement, a publicist for the indigo girls said tuesday, came
about after discussions between them and o'connor during last
year's woman-centric lilith fair summer tour in the united states.
o'connor is not participating in the sessions, the publicist said,
adding that the album could be ready for a summer release.

at long last...........

the final suffragette sessions at irving plaza, nyc (10/3/98) is ready to be
tree'd.     monique did a great job remastering it, and i promised to help her
out by treeing it.  it's one of the best ones i've heard.  you can actually
hear the songs <grin>

i think, to keep the songs all together, since she worked so hard on it, this
show will require a 60 minute tape, and a 90 minute tape.

the set list is as follows:

under your skin, cimarron, chez virtue, way below the radio, roll the dice,
vestigios, everwilling, tracy bonham song, tengo la vida, pullin' a cloud, go,
wood floors, soon to be nothing, pale light, power of two, rose polenzani
song, nada, sister, ziggy stardust, fisherman, cannonball, midnight train to
georgia

the last few trees i've been on have had a low turnout in requests, so monique
and i thought that each branch could handle two months.  if you're serious
about being a branch, please email me.    if not, please wait until the tree
is announced, and then contact your branch for a copy.

thanks!
lisa

(ps - monique - i'm *so* sorry this has taken so long to get started!!!!)

though i am normally a very happy and content person, i find this list
makes me pity myself for a few reasons.

1. i live in ontario where the girls very rarely play. thus, i have
never seen them live.
2. i do not own a single ig boot. i have little or nothing to trade, and
would never know where to begin.
3.i am musically challenged, and could never ever "jam" with anyone
without scaring them away.

although i took many many types of music lessons when i was young...from
recorder to guitar to piano to ukelele (stop laughing!) to vocal
lessons.... i finally realized my lot in life was to listen to music,
not make it. there is nothing in the world i regret more than my
inability to make music. am i the only one like this out here? i sure
hope not.

it is a good things there are musicians like amy and emily out there to
bring such joy into people's lives.

yours in indigo,
stephanie

some of the highlights.  in addition, there's also stuff from dar, indigenous,
ani, sarah m. and a ton of other lilith artists, but i *only* use my typing

okay.  2 in one day.  miracles never cease to exist.  this might be obvious...
there are some really great, some average, and several not so great live ig
concert photos on the site below.  the good ones come from one of the chicago
suffragette dates and the '98 newport appearance this summer.  there are also a
several shots from a recent lilith and some earlier performances...

there are also some archived articles about the suff tour and other news that
seem only vaguely familiar to me.  i should read more carefully before posting,
right?  :)

what the heck is up with the list?  don't email to tell me to quit complaining
about the list b/c i have merit and content --- read below.

whoever keeps sending weird-o html stuff to the list, please stop!  i'm on the
digest list, so i can hopefully "digest" it all at once, right?  so, scrolling
through y'all's crap is getting to be so not worth it.

where are my entries to the big list?  i sent two to it and have yet to see
them...one was about the ama awards...classic "chee" stuff, and i can't
reproduce those comments now for my life.  (i do however remember saying
something about natalie maines' stage presence (from the dixie chicks---i hate
that name...i hate the word chick or chicky!))  if you read this almost
defunct list, natalie, i got to say "howdy!!!" to you and "sorry" for making
fun of the name "dixie chicks."

finally, anyone who bought ani difranco's cd _up_, please email me about who
the musicians are she picked to play on the album...you think she, andy s.,
sara, and amy still respect each other's music?  i haven't bought the cd yet,
but i'm dying to read the cd booklet....what does it say?  that's my favorite
part of an album...the literature.

also, is anyone going to the folk fest. in new mexico this feb.?  details?

fed up,
chee

emily.  we didn't bug her or talk to her. she just walked in at the end

that's who all us aolers need to complain to.

to the next level, where her vibrant tunes are given room to breathe, to
take on a life of their own. it's one thing to write intimate,
confessional songs and perform them solo - ani rewrote the book on solo

full-fledged band arrangement. if anything, the addition of musical

heh, some random instant messenger person wrote me....
he said he's from the hilly area in pa near pittsburgh...so i was
telling him how bethany, jill and i got into an accident on the way to
an ig concert in that area....
he asked who ig were & i sent him to their webpage, wherein he got
frightened by the evil dolls.
anyway, later in the conversation, he asked what music i liked & he said
"oh yeah, the violet people."
i really can't tell if it was an actual mistake or a pun...but i really
think he couldn't exactly remember the name...cuz he said it was a
typo....and we were joking earlier about saying the wrong things as
being typo's....
so yeah...thats what he could rememberit as....i thought it was so
funny....
then he accidently said "indigo dolls" because of those
damn dolls.....

you know, on the cover of shaming of the sun, those little a&e dolls.  i know

my real post:
you know you're obsessed when . . .
you're english class goes on a field trip into boston, and you drag the other

in order to give a detailed tour of when you met ig in may at a wand event.

man, it was obsession at its finest!  "and here's where we were standing when
amy hugged me.  and this is where the ben & jerry's peace pops were being
distributed (amy got cookie dough -- my favorite kind!!!)."  they got kind of
weirded out when i told them about my encounter with amy's girlfriend in the
ladies room.  ("and here's the stall i was in.")  i can't imagine why.   =o

hello intimate strangers!

i'm temporarily unsubscribed as i am going around the us doing residency

of ig--

i was walking in the hangout place in philly, pa, where all these shops
are--and was looking through the section "i" for ig stuff, and found the
single "power of two", the one with deadman's hill(acoustic duo), and
mystery (acoustic duo mix), and also rockin' in the free world,w/ k's
choice (rec'd in atlanta 11/94--live) for $8!  i'm so psyched, just
listening to it just now. hee.

take care y'all--i'm headed down to augusta, ga on the 27th! and will
see the rose polenzani show on the 29th in chicago!

diane - hey melissa faurest, i haven't forgotten about the boot i owe
you!  if you're too busy to send the moolah, i will send it free to you
when i get back to california in february! :)

tigger has the reddest hair imaginable... bleaches to a very-orange in the
summertime when tigger is outside muchly.  :o)  however, tigger disagrees on
one point - tigger doesn't think emily counts as a true redhead.  <dons

i've seen her in person and i just don't think she qualifies as "red"....

okay, i know i probably ought to respond privately, but i heard
that there was a lot of talk on the list about this concert so i figure
there are probably a lot of people interested. (i was there too - with
sarah, actually - and it was probably the best ig show i've ever seen.)
i have a bootleg of this concert, but it's not great. the sound is
clear enough, but far away - this was definitely an audience boot. it's
hard to tell just by listening what an incredible concert it is. but if
anybody is interested, let me know. i may be awhile becasue the sys tape i
promised to make months ago is nearly done and i owe some people some
tapes for that, plus i think hat other people might want copies too, but
if you do wat a copy of the dickinson boot mail me and we'll tawk.
        mandy

p.s. hooboy do i remember that rain... four and a half hours
crouching under garbage bags and trying not to get trampled in the
disoeganized crush, then literally watching the steam rise off of the
audience as it got hot in that gym. remember how they passed out water to
the audience because it was so hot? i just love them...

so i visited kalamazoo this weekend (oh, how i miss it!) and i went to
bw-3 for food and to play trivia and hang with my pals. (bw-3 is a
sports bar type place... i don't know how regional they are) anyway, i
was playing the ntn trivia and we got a question that made our night:
"the album 'swamp ophelia' was a mainstream hit for which group?" and my
bud molly and i were all giggly and grinny (yes, that's a word now). la
la laaa... it was just cool.
and of course my roommate and her fiance roled their eyes at us. it was
fun. okay, i'm a freak and i'm gonna go now. ta!

peace,
amy

hi all:

i came across a small article in the sunday papers that gives this website
http://www.allmusic.com, it says that it contains almost everything you'll
want to know about your favorite performer or song.

i visited the site and searched for the indigo girls, of course, and there was
a lot of information listed.

take care.

i noticed in a post forwarded to the list today that someone is selling
[among other items] latul videos fo $18, plus $4 postage.  this comes to
$22, which is the same price that the ig fan club sells it for.

since continued fan club purchases go toward keeping the fan club (what
there is of it, anyway:) free, i think it is a good idea to purchase
directly from them, when possible.  besides that, any profit goes to
them and/or their organization [i assume] rather than an independent
retailer.  same thing with daemon merchandise and merchandise michelle
malone, et al. sell directly from their web sites or at shows.  [of
course, in the case of daemon, they are non-profit, so such money would
go back into the label.]

of course, if a cd, video, shirt, or songbook isn't available from the
fan club (or from the web site or catalog, as with daemon, michelle, et
al.), i will purchase it elsewhere.  i always patronize the fan club
store first, though!  food for thought...

peace, and happy mlk, jr. day!

in june, 1999, i will ride my bicycle 330 miles from north carolina to
washington, dc with over 1700 other people in the washington dc aids ride.  i
am riding to raise money that will go to services for people living with aids.
aids has affected nearly all of us.  to date, 390,000 people have died from the
epidemic and it's estimated that over 1,000,000 americans are infected with hiv
right now.  with your support, i hope to help those who are ill and in
desperate need of care and intervention.

i am asking people on the list to just send $1.  if everyone sends a $1 i could
be half way to the $1900.00 i've committed to raise.

in addition i am selling my much prized 'swamp ophelia' vinyl.  it's in perfect
condition, including the cover, and is signed by emily.
i am asking $25.00, which i will pledge to the aids ride.

if you are interested in the record, please e-mail me at mcunning@ui.urban.org.

you can send a buck to:  mr. fiddles
                                           600 maryland ave, ne #202

red in my hair is too persistent.  i ended up looking more like emily.

well...i've never been to chicago and would like to know a few things...

i'd really appreciate some help.

hey everybody,

i'd just like to share a little ig moment i had today. i'm reading toni
morrison's book, beloved, it was in oprah's book club a while back, and
one of the characters, sixo, is described as a wild man with an indigo
face..........i know, i know, it's not that exciting, but it was enough
for my little indigo heart to skip a beat. on a side note, i really
recommend the book. oh yeah, one more thing, does anyone out there in
listee land attend georgia state? i got accepted there and would like an
inside scoop on the school, any info would be appreciated (email me
privately). thanks :)

hello..
i dont know if this is actually appropriate to send to the entire
list.. but...
i would really really like.. or am really really interested in
having ig boots to call my own.  the only, slightly major problem with
this is, i have nothing to trade in  return!!   absolutely nothing..
and im not sure where to start!
so i was wondering if anyone who has some time.. or any boots at all
they would like to share.. would copy one.. two.. any!!..  for me.
i would be happy to send whatever i need to send..  and ill pay for
shipping and all that.  im just trying to find something new for myself
of the girls.  but like i said i have no idea where to start since i
really have nothing in return.
   email me privately..
thank you!!!

hey y'all!

i am back in ohio and classes have started over a week ago.  uggg.  oh
well, at least i do have 2 womyn's studies classes, but econ and japanese
are both kicking my butt!  but at least i have something to look forward
to.  i am going back to france for spring break (6 march - 14 march) and i
was hoping to catch a good concert or something while i am there.  i'll be
in both southern france (aaaahhhh..warm weather and beaches) and in paris.
does anyone know if any good musicians are playing in europe around that
time?  if so, please e-mail me.  i know the girls will be there but that
is not when i'll be there, and i don't think they're playing or anything.
and of course, dar finished her european tour before starting the cry cry
cry tour...

my second question is, does anyone know if naomi wolf (you know, the best
(in my opinion) modern writer out there) ever does speaking tours at
colleges, etc?  if you know of anything, or know of someone who does, or
can give me some sort of help, or get me pointed in the right direction,
again, please e-mail me off the list!

thanks!

love,
karen :-)
