hmm..i've always thought of the wood song as having a lot of references
to noah (you know, the guy with the ark and the flood).  but that's just
the language she uses to talk about rough times and following god's lead
even when it seems strange to us.  and in the end we're better people
because of what we made it through.

it's not her nature to kiss. it's not her nature to even think about a
song like this. but something comes when they're together, turns her

texas legislature is struggling with this question.  there is a house
bill up that would prevent children from being adopted or fostered by
homosexual or bisexual parents.  it would also remove children from
homes where a parent is determined to be homosexual or bisexual.  the
site offers links to the texts of the bills and is an ongoing petition.
please check it out.

just another thing i wanted to throw in about the
wood song... i always felt that there was a lot in
there making reference to noah's ark.  i guess the
"in the boat in two by twos..." immediately made it
come to mind, and then the rest of the song sortof
fit around that. i agree that the boat is a metaphor
for changes, having courage to face difficulty in
that, etc.  and the noah story sortof fits into that.

originally i just made it for a friend but i thought maybe someone
else out there would like to get it / listen to it?!

i won't send it out to individuals (my phone bill is high enough as
it is;-)) but i would send it to whomever is currently the ig list's
mp3 site owner (with all the early rec stuff) and he/she could add it
to the already existing files (if there is any interest in this of
course).

so, if our mp3 guru;-) could e-mail me pls, then we'd get things
going.

<< i can listen to them using winamp - but is there a way to make a song list
or something so when one song is done it will just play another one

i've had my winamp for a while now, so there may be a newer version, but on
mine there is a "button" on the right side of the player with "pl" on it.  if
you click on that it brings up a playlist editor.  add files, and sort them
any way you want.

there is also a shuffle and repeat button near the bottom of the player.  if
you can't see any of this, and only see a thin strip of buttons, then double
click anywhere on that strip and it should "drop down" the rest of the player.

cheers,

the march/april issue of the performing songwriter has a great article
on shawn mullins and also one on cheryl wheeler. there's also an
interview with john keane who produced/recorded ig's original strange
fire album, a column by janis ian, and a little blurb about cory sipper.
check it out, ... cheryl, shawn, and ray charles on the cover. i found
it at borders.

hi gang-
first of all - i noticed today that the poster of the woman with the boot from
the suffragette sessions tour is on sale on e-bay, currently for ?$7.20
including shipping - i know many people missed out on getting this poster and
thought i'd let you know ..
(just search under "suffragette sessions" and you'll find it.)

secondly - would whoever originally posted the branches for the suffragettes
sessions boot e-mail me, or repost them?  i'd really like a copy of this boot,
and i'm not having too much luck reaching someone.  my boot collection is
limited, but i'm willing to trade if i have anything you want.

thanks a bunch!

hi all

i was soooooooo happy to hear that w.m.p. (wonderful mystery person) had
decided to share even more boots with the list. i was able to successfully
download to zip drives e.r. volume 1, 2 and 3 as well as the lilith boot last
week, and can still access these sites now.

the problem is that i can not get into/get access to the newest mp3's
(ie: complicated girls, and radio city music hall 6/98.) every time i try to
get in, it flashes "done" at the left lower corner with absolutely no access.
the inaccessable address  clearly states the date of march 15, 6:44 but will
not open. it is the directory with the
.   the directory with  .. is fine.

is this currently a universal problem? is there any known solution? another
way to access these files? have others been able to get to these files?

i know the length of time these are available is unpredictable, so any timely
advice is welcome and appreciated

thanks :)

while of course i diagree with wendy's homophobic policies, i do
think it's good that some people think of their music as independent of
their politics. it's always bothered me how those 50-word blurbs identify
them as "lesbian folk duo". it's not the beginning and end of eiyther them
or their music, and while i do think that that aspect of their music
deserves recognition, their music has enough else to offer that it does
not deserve to be dwelt upon.

whether or not you agree with the politics, good music is good music.
if the indigo girls started making their political messages more overt,
and neglecting the making of great folk/rock tunes, i'd have much less
respect for them.

months before hearing the much raved about ig version of clampdown.

the clash tribute album burning london might as well change its name to
bumping london. epic records has moved
the release date of the set yet again. it was slotted for release this
tuesday, march 16, but it?s nowbeen pushed back to
the first or second week in may. the whole project hasnow been delayed a
total of a year-and-a-half. participating
artists include indigo girls, silverchair, and third eye blind among
others.

hey, list!
i just had to add to this:  i *think* i remember last year during the
suff. sess. tour when *sweet babs* (hi babs!  how are ya?!)
went to all that trouble for us listees and took orders for t-shirts,
posters, etc...weren't the posters like $3 each back then, for sale
during the tour?

now i could get into a whole big spiel about ebay and how i disagree
with their whole system- the whole idea of bidding on these kinds of
things for outrageous prices...but i won't.  i just want to remind
everybody what these posters sold for on the original tour.  think
about the $3 it originally cost before you agree to pay $15, $20,
whatever the price is after the bidding is over.

sorry, y'all......i just think ebay bites.

while we're talking about sst merchandise, i want to say thanks
again to babs for getting all that stuff for the ones of us who wanted
it.  she paid for it out of her own pocket, before she even had our checks
in-hand.  i think about her kindness every time i wear that t-shirt.
it was really sweet of you babs!  thanks again.

also, i should add:  if anyone wants to flame me about the ebay
thing, send it elsewhere- i don't have the time or energy to even

no, i don't know.  but i wrote one, and i'm sure that incident angered a lot
of people.  the only way i could deal with it was to write a song....or finish
writing what had started out as a song about the cute person i see everyday

greetings, everyone... lift is back!

* note *:  first of all, if you are receiving this email and would prefer not
to receive future messages from lift, please send a return email with the
subject line "remove" and you will be removed. otherwise, read on...!

first of all, we have a big announcement to make.   lift has a new bass
player, meimi sato, and she's great!  she's japanese, and although she likes
raw fish, she's totally cool.  so lift is now a power trio (!), comprised of
molly bancroft (vocals, guitar), simone simonton (drums) and meimi sato
(bass).

for those of you who have been writing to us, and patiently waiting for lift
performances to be announced, we will be debuting our new  line-up on
wednesday, march 31 (10pm) at smith's olde bar in atlanta --
and we are really looking forward to seeing you again. we'll be playing some
new songs and of course, a few of your (and our) old favorites too.

we'll also be playing on thursday, april 29 (also at smith's olde bar.)  this
is  the night before music midtown begins, so come out and see us before
braving the sea of 200,000 sweaty people.

we want to send out a big "thanks" to the many of you have been writing to us
over the course of this past year -- for keeping in touch, wondering what
we've been up to, and keeping us motivated. 1998 was a busy year of positive
change for us. aside from the the addition of meimi to the lift family, we've
mostly been busy crafting a slew of new material.  we also wrote and recorded
several international radio spots for coca cola, and also recorded a new
4-song demo -- 2 cuts of which ("margarito villa gomez" and "solitary life")
have recently been sent to local radio stations for airplay.  if you're
curious to hear them, please call and ask to hear lift's new songs! (99x
request line 404-741-0997).

for those of you who still don't have a copy of our most recent cd "lifelike",
(daemon records) it's still available... we have links on our website to
places it can be purchased online.  the lift website address is now
officially: www.orangestar.com/lift. if you have bookmarked the old website
address, however, it still works!

also on the website, please check our tour dates page for other upcoming
shows.  also, we have new merchandise on the way and will be updated in our
website (once again, if jodi, our webmaster, doesn't kill us first) very very
soon!   if you're not yet on our mailing list, please sign up at the website
or at one of our shows so we can keep you in-the-know.

see you soon!
molly, simone, and meimi

hi everyone!

i thought i would pass along news that our favorite duo
was plugged on detroit radio last weekend !  whoo hoo

......... for all of those listees in the detroit area, there is no need to
explain who ann delisi is, but for the  rest of the world, a very well
respected local program director (formerly dj, made famous on local public
radio, wdet 101.9 fm, gone public to the river 93.9fm, gone program director
96.3 fm)   is back onair here (thank god) for two hours on sunday with a show
called

new adventures in high-fi ..... (which airs 9-11 a.m. sun. morning)

sounds fun, yes?   it is...... lots of new music, info, etc...

and last week ann kicked the show off, 2nd song into the show,
with galileo, and proceeded to inform all listening not only about the
new album, (recording with sinead's band) but also gave mention to
the cuba show doings..........

could it be ann , or other planet staff are lurking,
lurking here, right on this superb list of fine people???
........... hmmmm.

ahhh, the joys of the internet.

as a famous bunny once said, .....that's all folks!
thanks for letting me a bit goofy.......

peace,
dana

i sent this in to the list once before, but i didn't get much of a response,
so i thought i'd toss it out again.  i want to be known as the one who coined
the word "lesband" for us long "married" lesbians who need a better word to
describe our lifetime relationships.  "girlfriend" seems too temporary;
"lover" seems to define the relationship as just sexual, so we need a word
that means "married to a lesbian for the rest of my life and we have our
mutual powers-of-attorney and we have been together for 12 years and we have
four cats and we don't keep separate financial books and when i die she gets
everything and vice versa and we are a family..."  now, i want to hear from
more lesbands out there to let me know that my word is being used, at least to
humor me and shut me up.

why not just use "wife"?  i know the traditionally usage has been as a
definition of a female counterpart in a heterosexual union, but when
"wife" is used by another female to describe a lifetime relationship, i
think that succinctly and adequately describes a committed lesbian
relationship, as does, in my opinion, the term "partner".    what does
it matter if it's a term commonly used to define hetero relationships?
why can't it apply to lesbian relationships as well?

well, i know this is out of the ordinary, but i'm looking for a place to

due to some, well, circumstances, i don't think that'll actually be happening.
so i'm wondering if any of you know of a place for rent or need a roommate or
something.  there's got to be a cheap place out there for a nice, young

hi there, again! =)
it's me with all the pleas today... i have to write a paper tonight for
school and it has to be a few pages long, etc, and i hate writing papers.
this one is a compare/contrast paper where i show the similarities and
differences between any two things i want.  i was going to do igneous vs.
metamorphic rocks, but then i'd have to use facts and document sources, etc,
and that sucks when you don't have much time.  so i was thinking music.  so
then i thought, what do i know a lot about?  perhaps amy vs. emily.  fine.
anyone have any better ideas or have any good examples of ways i can compare
and contrast them?  there have to be three main themes, such as guitar work,
vocals, and lyrics, or somesuch... just a thought.  maybe even a new thread.
if you have any insight, feel free to write.  i'm sure i won't try to pound
out my paper until the very last minute, anyhow... agh!  frustrated, sarah

hi there!
i just wanted to make a brief clarification, here.  the items i am
auctioning are not making me a personal profit.  i didn't want to have to go
into detail, and i know that a lot of you are aware that i am not a
"profiteer" type, but i have been accused by a fellow list member of being
"greedy" for making a profit, etc.  basically, these items do not even belong
to me.  i am auctioning them for someone else who has recently hit major
financial troubles.  he doesn't have computer access, so i said i would do
this for him.  sure, he'll probably make a few dollars more than he paid for
things, but he has also spent a lot of time in the last few years collecting
these things and he doesn't want to get rid of them, but he basically has to.
so there's the scoop.  i really hate auctions, too, but he needs to make some
money quickly, so this is what he chose to do.  thanks for reading.  peace,
sarah

i'm glad i live in holland (the netherlands), where it is legal to
marrie if you're white, black, yellow, or gay!

we are all human, with the same wishes and the same longings. it's just
a shame that so many people are searching for a name, how to call there
partner! it's sick!

i wish thinks would change!

hi!

okay, here's the deal...for some reason i decided that i wanted the rop
songbook, so i ordered it from amazon.com.  anyway, it arrived and i came
to the realization, "i don't really need this," so i am offering it to the
list.  i paid like $20 for it including shipping and handling.  i am
willing to sell it for $16 including s&h.  the first person to e-mail me
gets it.  it is in perfect condition.  i trust people on this list enough
to write me a check, i have never been ripped off before.  so if you want
it, e-mail me. . .

:-) karen

ps- paris (and mc solar!  haha) was great as always!

i've been pretty quiet the past few months, but i had to write a little
something and express my general astonishment at the number of times i have
heard the girls on philadelphia radio lately.  least complicated, closer to
fine...it freaks me out everytime a popular station, like y100, plays one
of their songs bc i am used to no one in my immediate area even hearing of
them, let alone one of the biggest new music stations playing them over the
airwaves.  a friend of mine said that he has grown up with them on the
radio in philly...guess i always lived the wrong places...

however, while it makes me glad that lots of people like them and they are
getting airplay, it makes me kind of sad that our secrect is getting out.
i selfishly like having them as this wonderful "secrect"...guess the
secret's been out, huh.

how does everyone else feel about this?  are the majority of the listees
for exposure or against?  my two cents are going in the pot as being
against large amounts of exposure.  selfish, yes, and damn proud of it.

definitely for.  i wouldn't mind it if everyone knew about them.
certainly they are good pr for the gay community, yes?  not to mention
the charity - imagine if their hte benefit shows drew the kinds of
crowds that lilith drew?

i remember when the list had this discussion awhile back.....but it seems that
the ig receive much much more exposure than only a few years ago.  nearly
everyone at my school knows of them, probably through lilith fair and vh-1 and
such (or possibly just my bumpersticker and ardent love for the girls).  even
with little airplay, they are becoming a well-known band.

before i was "protective"  of letting the girls out to the rest of the world.
its cool when you find and awesome artist who has a small following, but with
the girls, i don't even feel like that's an issue now.  they're huge...at
least compared to most of the other people i listen too......

lana and i use both wife and partner.  we had a committment ceremony and
started using wife then, but still use partner when it is to people we are
not exactly comfortable with, like business people, professionals, etc.  of
course that send a mixed message.  we have had to answer the question
"business partner?"  we then explain that we are life partners.  this works
for us.     carol2

>why not just use "wife"?  i know the traditionally usage has been as a
definition of a female counterpart in a heterosexual union, but when "wife"
is used by another female to describe a lifetime relationship, i think that
succinctly and adequately describes a committed lesbian relationship, as
does, in my opinion, the term "partner".
