hello list,

party of five - thankful for the song, but wished they went one line
further to end with "each life has its place," rather than "the apathy of
time laughs in my face".

wav request - i saw sarah use the "i will not be complacent" soc thingy in
her .sig file.  does anybody have a wav file of this, just this bit?   i'd
like to pass it on to a friend who'd be hearing it for the 1st time.  it's
on the soc compilation boot, i think, from a show around april '95 (?)
also i could kinda use a recap on what's out there to be heard online on
official sites - is there a list on somebody's site?

glad to be back online after a year-plus off.

- lorie

i agree, her reaction to the kiss was disappointing (especially since i
had this huge crush on both the character (okay, i'm pathetic) and the
actress herself), but she supposedly really liked the whole story,
especially the emphasis that it wasn't about sex--that kiss was as sexual
as it got.

and just for the sake of argument, dax isn't an old man trapped in a
woman's body...there are old women in there too :)

and shanie said (and i agree completely with the (not quoted here) part
about emphasis on the occasional gay content of certain shows):
> it was also noted that the subtext was played up the most
> during sweeps month.  the subtext sells--the nielsen ratings showed
> that. and while i do love it, i hate that it's being exploited in this
> way.

of course the subtext was played up during sweeps month. all sex is played
up during sweeps month, even on shows that usually have nothing to do with
sex or sexual relationships. i think they make certain episodes of certain
shows just for sweeps month. sex is exploited on television, whether it's
gay or straight sex. the difference is that straight sex is expected, and
gay sex is marketed as out of the ordinary.

also, and not-to-make-this-too-long-but, i read somewhere that the cast
and crew of xena started playing up the lesbian subtext after they heard
that fans were talking about a possible lesbian subtext. lucy lawless said
that they make jokes about it all the time, even ones that aren't in the
script or necessarily on camera, because the whole point of the show is to
have fun--they have fun making the show and viewers are supposed to have
fun watching it. so they have fun with the lesbian subtext.

now, if they would just start having fun with lesbian *maintext*....

dannette, and sorry for the rant....

subject:      amy ray
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

hey there everyone,

amy ray.  i figure that's a good way to catch the interest of most people on
this list.  i am writing to all of you in hopes of suggestions.  my english
teacher assigned our class the project of making a scrapbook.  it can be
about anyone we want to research and talk about.  and, of course, i chose amy
ray.

i deliberated for quite some time whether i should talk about amy or emily.
in the end i decided on amy in hopes that i can play guitar in my
presentation along with my friend crystal singing with me.  we actually seem
very much like amy and emily in our personality and appearance.

back to the scrapbook.  it's supposed to have an interesting cover, with the
shape being applied for the whole book.  despite all cheezyness, the only
thing i can think of is a peach, for the obvious allusion to georgia.  i need
to include stories and "artifacts" portraying a memory or something that
happened in her life.  so, i've been trying to find info on amy, since i have
to include her whole life in there.  i haven't found any true biography, and
i don't know if one even exists.

is there anyone out there that knows where i can find more extensive info?  i
would love to hear from anyone that might know a little something, a little
high school story or something.  i learned from vh1 that she was on track
team and was president of her senior class.  i really, really don't want to
be some invader of her private life.  it would be nice though to know other
stuff about her besides her years as an indigo girl, but including these
years as well.  suggestions of stuff to include would be most appreciated.

i will need to know plenty of stuff, considering i will be amy ray for a day.
so this is where i will get my 15 minutes of fame, and it will come in the
form of "being" amy ray.  is there anything that sets her aside, something
about her personality maybe.  i want to emphasise that i don't need to know
about private issues, such as relationships.  i'm not planning on including
the fact that she's a lesbian.  i don't think that type of info will be well
received among high school students.  honestly, though, i would just love the
moment to be able to yell out "hey, i'm gay!"  that will be the day...

another issue of this presentation:  what should i wear?  i'm thinking
something along the lines of boots, jeans, and a polyester shirt, but i
really don't know.  that almost seems like a stereotypical amy ray outfit.
i've heard some of you say she's the only person you know that can make that
much polyester look good.  i truly believe that i have the capability to be
very much like amy.  as a loose connection i play guitar, have short brown
hair, brown eyes (does she have brown eyes?).  "i am a fuzzy brown bear cub."
please don't be mad if i didn't get that quote exactly right.

i greatly appreciate anything and everything ya'll can help me out with.  so,
please respond!

lauren

greetings all!  i apologize for the nigc, but i know some of you are natalie
fans, too.  my friends and i had the chance to see her at the toledo zoo,
which, for those of you who've been there, has a beautiful
pavilion/amphitheater.  she was great -- i'm not a huge fan of her recorded
stuff, but i love her live!  her music seems so much more alive in concert.

anyway, she had a really cute repoire with tonight's audience, so i thought
i'd share some of the cuter moments...

***************
after the first few songs:

natalie: "i have so many clothes on i can't even move!  i'm wearing 3 pairs
of socks, two pairs of pants, a skirt, a dress, three sweaters and a
jacket."

man in the front by the stage: "take something off!"

natalie: "what?  'take something off?!'  (in a wicked witch of the west
voice) you take something off, little boy!"

***************
natalie: "when the wind blows this way i can smell fresh-brewed...brew!  and
when the wind blows the other way...cheetah poop!  and koala droppings...
we saw the koalas today when we toured the zoo, and the placard said,
(whispers) 'please remain quiet.  koalas are very sensitive to sound
vibration.'  and now i feel really guilty!"

***************
after the *second* encore:

natalie: (whispering) "okay, now go home.  shhh... go home very, very
quietly.  the koalas are sleeping...    shhhhhhhhhhhhhh..."

***************

thanks for listening to my spiel -- have a wonderful rest-of-the-weekend!

shannon ;)

hey y'all!
i just thought i'd post my two cents on this song. this is the first
time i've had a chance to post in a while and i know this has most likely
been discussed like a million years ago. but anyways, i totally love thsi
song even though emily didn't write it. vonda is really cool and my sister
has her cd "by 7:30" which is the one that the song is on. i listen to it
constantly and hear it on the radio quite frequently. it's awesome! i totally
love it!

does anyone have a good, clear copy of this soc compilation tape?
please??? please???  the one i have just stinks - can't even understand
amy at all or even hear her most of the time.  it really doesn't matter
if the copy you have is 1st generation, because if the source tape is
poor, then the tape is going to be shitty.  i think the soc tape i have
is 1st or second gen., but the source tape was horrible, so the copy is
really bad.  can anyone help me?

sorry for being so slow with abbreviations, but what
is the soc tape?  also, for all those who live in the
ny area (lower ny state) there is an event in croton -
on - hudson called the clearwater hudson river
revival.  or something like that.  anyway, dar is
going to be there and tom chapin and some other less
known folk singers.  i believe it is a 2 day thing and
tickets are around $20.  email me privatly if you
would like more info.  it is an outdoor fest and i
have talked to people who have gone in years past and
they said it was good.  :)

sure! im the one who suggested it.  rasputin was an advisor to czar nicholas
ii of russia.  he was a "mystic and mysterious medicine man"... basically.
nicholas's wife, the czarina, thought rasputin was full of advice on how her
husband nicholas should run the government... see, at this time, russia was
in a state of serious depression and famine, and had no stable central gov't.
the czarina kept listening to rasputin's advice, and therefore nicholas
would listen to his wifes... so basically, he ran the country for a brief
time until the russian aristocrats had him assassinated.  so, there you go!
hope this helps...
troop
p.s.  just thought i'd mention... i had to go to emorys graduation today, and
emily's father received a very nice "excellence in teaching award".  it was
cute.. the presenter of the award talked of dr. saliers mastery of music, and
his interest in bach, all the other classics, and the indigo girls.... good
day all!

just wanted to let you guys know that uva's radio station, wtju 91.1 fm is having a folk music
marathon this week----and tuesday (the 11th) night they are dedicating three hours to ig---from
10pm to 1 in the morning!!! the blurb says that they will be playing the best of ig along with
rare cuts, b-sides, live tracks, and side projects. isn't that awesome??? support them and
listen if you can!

other shows that might interest those around (this station gets pretty good reception....i can
sometimes catch it an hour outside of d.c., so if you live in va---try it out!)

tuesday 11th---

7-8= lilith fair music
9-10= the nields---nerissa and katryna will be doing the radio show talking and playing their
music.

thursday 13th---

7-9= history of lesbian music....the blurb says that music will include all music that reflects
what lesbians listen to and relate to.....i am kind of interested to see how they define this
genre....i listen to a lot of music by lesbians, but i am not....does that matter?? :)

friday 14th---

11-1am= women's voices. playing music from all over the world and different cultures.

i am going to attempt to tape the indigo show....if it comes out well, i'd be willing to make
some copies for some trades (since most of the world doesn't live here in charlottesville) if
anyone is interested e-mail me and i will let you know if it comes out (and if the show was any
good). happy listening.....meg

if there's anyone else with cdr burning capability who would be willing

hey all !!!!

well, i have been in the process of changing jobs and have not been able to
get on line lately so here are a few backed up responses rolled into
one.....(sorry kelly dear heart i miss you )...........

ig party of five.....
at night, i work at an answering service for a second job....and i was
working that night, i really wanted to watch the show, but i was really busy
and only caught bits and pieces of it....towards the end it slowed down a
bit and as i finally got a five minute break....i heard the sweet strains of
emily's voice above the din of the phones and office noise....i had caught
the  kiss at the end of it and getting to hear ig on tv honestly brought
tears to my eyes....(ok yes i am pmsing but hey what can i say i am a
sentimental gal!!!)

i understand what was said about only hearing from lesbian artist on tv when
there is a lesbian scene being played....it is sad that these wonderful and
talented women can't break free from the stereotypes granted to them by the
media because of their sexuality.....but it is typical of their lives that
something that they believe in and are proud of would gain fame and
recognition because of that same talent.....the gift of being an artist is
a double edge sword kind friends,  but you know the smile i had on my face
for the rest of the night and the strains of that song wondering around in
my mind as i drifted off to sleep that night  are really what the girls
music is all about..... emotions, joy, pain and passion,

now, in that being said, i want to share this with you if you can guess who
this poem is about, i will send you one of my ig backgrounds........

standing alone on a stage...
mike on but no words come....
the mind is filled with an image
of someone, somewhere, unknown,
someone waiting for a touch,
a word, a gentle caress
that will complete both, the dreamt
and the dreamer.
the heart of the day dreamer
is still torn and wondering
is it a past love she is revisiting
in her mind, or is it a glimpse,
of the one who is waiting,
dreaming the same dream,
but of the day dreamer
in the drempts waking mind?
pondering this thought,
the words finally come,
and she unleashes her soul
to the audience before her......
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
peace love & indigo light

hi,

about a month and a half ago, i heard this really cool punk
version of bob dylan's "don't think twice it's alright" by social
distortion on the radio.  i really like the ig version best with
joan baez (sorry bob).  i just think it's cool, how new bands are
discovering and paying tribute to the "classic" songs out there and the
"legends" of music.

i just thought of that now as i am listening to neil's cd "attack of the
killer b sides" and "don't think twice . . ." came on.

on a somewhat similar note (?) i would like to mention a very cool band from
new york that has started getting some good attention...bitch & animal. they
are a duo, but very unlike ig. some awesome harmonies, bizarre songs; bitch
plays fiddle (she has an awesome electric violin) and electric bass. animal
plays percussion and ukelele. they had a little blurb in last month's out
magazine, and opened for ani. their website
is http://www.bitchandanimal.com  and they rock.

hi y'all,

i just posted the following message to the
ani difranco list.  i thought y'all might be interested
too.  please respond to the message if you indeed
are interested, using the method i've indicated.  read on
for a special note to my fellow indigo girls
fans.

subject: interest in unique ani poster? (kinda long)

hi everyone,

i'm new to this list...my impetus to join the list now is to find out
if my fellow ani fans would be interested in purchasing a
very unique, potentially valuable poster of ani.  here's
the deal.....

some fans i know are interested in such an item.  recently,
i contacted an artist, world-famous for this rock posters for the
past 30 years, about the chances of him painting ani.  to my
utter delight, he replied that he is very interested in creating
an ani poster.  he loves ani's music and respects her artistic
as well as business talents.  this artist, who i have to refrain
from naming until the project is approved, has a very
unique and vivid style (colorful, respectful, artful, beautiful...
you get the picture....the guy is a wonderful talent).

the artist would consider painting a poster of ani if there is
enough support for one.  the artist needs a specific amount of
interest in the project before he starts it since he puts a lot of time,
effort, and money into painting the poster and then creating
numbered and signed prints.

cost would be approximately $30, the usual price for his posters.
note that: (1) many of his posters have become very valuable
collector's items, and (2) a portion of the proceeds might go to a
charitable organization of ani's or her fans' choosing.  (such
charitable projects have been done in the past with the sales
of his posters; for an ani poster, this would be determined
once the project gets off the ground.)

the company who helps the artist sell his
posters has asked me to find out from all of you how much
interest there would be in such a project.  all sales would be
through the company...none via this list.  also, if there appears
to be enough support, a company representative will
contact rbr and ani to seek approval for the project.   they
told me the project would not happen if ani does not approve
of it, out of respect for her and her independent business.

information from the company about a potential ani poster:

> the poster would be approx 14" x 26" (standard concert
> poster size). it would be printed on thick poster paper and
> would be designed completely freehand using ink and various
> media like paint and pastels, but no computers (the artist works
> purely freehand).  his art is world famous and is collected all
> over the world. for him to choose to do ani is very cool
> considering he only does about 6 posters a year, as they
> take him 2 months each to do.

if you are interested in such a poster (which you'd be able
to see on the internet once it is complete and before you
order, and you'd be able to order using check, money order, or
credit card directly from the artists' sales company), please reply
to me (lschreihart@juno.com) as follows:

in the subject line of the message, write "ani poster".
in the body of the message, write only "i am interested."  if you
express your interest, you are under absolutely no
obligation to purchase anything...this is only to gauge
the amount of interest out there.

thanks!  i'm posting this because i am interested.  the
only way i'll be able to order such a poster is if many other
people are interested too.

lisa

***********************
a special note to the ig list:  i have inquired with the
aforementioned artist about the possibility of
creating an indigo girls poster too.  at the time,
he was more enthusiastic about an ani poster, but
if he is alerted to the fact that there is a huge amount
of interest in an indigo girls poster, he'd likely opt
to do one of those in addition to or instead of the
ani poster.  our job is to show him we're interested.

check out this site:

www.visualgallery.com/wir/

now you know who the potential artist is.  the
poster you'll see at this site is very nice.  i ordered
one myself and will soon have it professionally
framed.  notice that ig is written along the border
of the poster, keeping great company with other
artists such as ani, me, stevie, etc, etc, etc.  very
cool!  a great collectors' item, especially for a
collector of rock posters or anything indigo-
related.

so, if you are interested in an indigo girls poster
created by this artist, do the same as for the ani
poster....reply to me (lschreihart@juno.com) and
in the subject line, write "ig poster".  in the body of
the message, write "i am intersted."  thanks!  it
would be a most awesome thing if this project
could get off the ground.  and this one isn't
going to be an issue of copyright.  everything
involved has been done for a long time, and
very successfully and legally, by the artist.

thanks, y'all!
lisa s.

what a shame - he was one of my favorites.  i could never get through
the "giving tree" without getting choked up and my voice cracking and
eyes brimming with tears (even today), but then, i cry at a hallmark

spac= saratoga performing arts center.

at least they're giving us ig this year.  (lilith isn't coming here i
guess this year)

here's a url for info:

http://www.spac.org  (look under special events for concert listings.)

they haven't listed any concerts in august yet, but look for info soon,
like babs said (the first batch of concerts go on sale on the 22nd i
believe, so ig might go on sale later)

it's a shed-type of venue.  decent sized.  it's roughly 45 mins. or so
(maybe less, maybe more) north of albany.

the girls have played there a couple of times.  the last time they played
there was the day before the great woods pay-per-view.  they host a
variety of events--summer home of the nyc ballet and the philadelphia
orchestra.  they have a huge jazz festival in june, i think.

i'm not sure if i'll be there yet, but if i am i definitely think we
should tailgate in the parking lot!

i just wanted to thank the many people who replied to my posting for ig
related pet names.  my new maine coon is now named "zeke", short for ezekial.
he and my other boy cat "jonas blue" (affectionately called blue) are
getting along well, much to the dismay of my female cat, nyka...who wants
them both to go away.
everyone who wrote was very kind and i knew that i could count on
ya'll to generate some creative and indigo - ish names.  all the names were
great and i had a list of about 20, but he's just a "zeke".  so thanks again!

womad usa to feature joan baez, jeff ament,
taj mahal

the line-up for the second annual womad usa festival
is shaping up to be quite an eclectic and worldly
three-day event, highlighted by performances by jeff
ament's three fish, cuba's own cubanismo!, middle
eastern dance messiah natacha atlas, as well as more
world renowned artists joan baez, joan armatrading,
and taj mahal & the phantom blues band.

the world music, arts, and dance (womad) festival
will take place at marymoor park in redmond, wash.
(just outside seattle) on july 30-aug. 1. in
addition to the aforementioned talent, this year's
festival boasts over 40 international and national
acts representing six of seven continents (not much
music coming out of antarctica lately). some of the
other notable names include irish vocalist mary
black; afro celt sound system (who will work with
sinead o'connor on the soundtrack to stigmata (see
story, this page); china's hottest rock act, cui
jian; ugandan guitarist bernard kabanda; and haiti's
boukman eksperyans.

womad usa 1999 will feature eight stages as well as a
global market. other 1999 womad festivals are being
planned for australia, italy, new zealand,
singapore, england, greece, canary islands, and
croatia.

tickets for the event are $65 for a three-day pass or
$25 for a single-day pass and are available at
www.womadusa.org, ticketmaster, and participating
western washington starbucks. after june 13, ticket
prices will rise to $75 and $35 respectively.

the womad organization was founded by peter gabriel,
thomas brooman, and bob hooton in 1980 with the goal
of producing multi-cultural music festivals
worldwide.

looks like there are a couple of crucial (to me) folks missing, as the newport page <http://www.newportfolk.com> was updated this morning, and quickly stuffed back in the box for some reason.  while it was up,  i noted at least 3 artists i was happy to see in addition to those previously mentioned: suzanne vega, joan armatrading, and melissa ferrick!

*if this listing was accurate*, it looks like my gamble of holding out for newport in lieu of the atl lilith is gonna pay off with yet another great line-up by the bay!

hello everyone!

so, i'm running this auction to benefit the snowden environmental trust on
the dar list and i thought some of you might be interested.  so far i have
received zero bids, so you might be able to get some weekend camping
passes to the falcon ridge folk festival pretty cheap.

any questions?  e-mail me.  please send any bids to frfftix@hotmail.com

thanks,

good news:

well, the blind auction for the dar care package has now been expanded to
include not just one weekend camping pass but two courtesy of anne.  so
grab your sweetie/significant other/friend/enemy and get your bids in!

for those of you who missed the first message, i have put the following
items up for blind auction to benefit the snowden environmental trust.
this super-duper deluxe package includes the following:

two weekend camping passes to the frff
a limited edition frff mug
a dar t-shirt
two dar stickers
frff buttons
a copy of the tofu tollbooth two
a kerrville compilation cd including dar

so, maybe we should start the bidding at $50.  do i hear $50 for all
this marvelous stuff?  this is a *great* bargain, folks!  and *all* the
money is going to a wonderful cause.   if you've already gotten
your tickets, then give these to a friend who maybe wouldn't be able to
afford to go.  come with us and experience what promises to be a fabulous
weekend of great music!

if you want to bid, please send the amount you are willing to pay and your
e-mail addy to the following address (to avoid even more clutter in my

bidding will be open until **may 17, 1999 4 pm est**.  make sure you
include the amount you'd be willing to pay and an e-mail address where i
can contact you if your bid wins.  $50 is just a jumping off point.  let's
raise some money!

if you like, feel free to post this to any other lists you are on.  :)

any questions?  e-mail me at fairbk@sage.edu.

howdy-ho list!
(my apologies if this get's posted twice, i just realized i was logged into
the wrong account when i posted the first time
goodness, i can't even remember the last time i posted to the list. i've
been in major lurk mode due to school and work pressures, but tour talk
perked my ears a bit, so i though i'd break-away from my "transformation,
reconciliation and healing" homework long enough to get on line and make a
few comments to list and ask a few questions. (oh, note to the two folks i
owe tapes to: they are being made as i type -- only six months in the
making -- am i bad, or what? major, major apologies...)

ok, first a mp3 question: i've finally gotten around to setting things up
so i can play those wonderful little puppies. is someone out there willing
to share the address of the secret ftp site that houses all the ig stuff
that can be downloaded? if so, i would deeply, deeply appreciate it.

let's see, what else...oh yeah, i heard a snippet of baby don't you break
my heart slow -- is the new version on the "overproduced" side, or is what
i heard the orignal version from shepard's first cd? i didn't hear enough
to be able hear emily so i don't know. i'm totally in love with the version
i have on my austin city limits video, but what i heard was faster paced,
and just had too much fluff added for my taste. is the version on the cd
just like the acl version? if someone could let me know, i'd appreciate it.
i don't want to buy the cd and be disappointed (or is there a full length
mp3 version available someplace?)

tour talk: it's nice to be hearing about dates again. i feel bad that i
can't keep my tour site up-to-date, but other priorites call at the moment.
i have one request though: south florida please, ladies :) the midwest had
seen you enough this past year (sorry greg, but it's true ;) it's time to
come south where your tambourine player now resides.

well that's about it for now. if anyone can help with the mp3 stuff, i'd
deeply appreciate it.

toodles...deb

<< spac= saratoga performing arts center.

i called on monday and was told they won't be posting any info for their
august concerts for two weeks...bummer.  they are gonna be so close, and i 'm
gotta get those tickets!  :)

at least they're giving us ig this year.  (lilith isn't coming here i
guess this year)

if you want to go to canandaigua ny you can catch lilith. i don't think the
line up is that great, but thats me.

here's a url for info:

http://www.spac.org  (look under special events for concert listings.)

they haven't listed any concerts in august yet, but look for info soon,
like babs said (the first batch of concerts go on sale on the 22nd i
believe, so ig might go on sale later)

it's a shed-type of venue.  decent sized.  it's roughly 45 mins. or so
(maybe less, maybe more) north of albany.

the girls have played there a couple of times.  the last time they played
there was the day before the great woods pay-per-view.  they host a
variety of events--summer home of the nyc ballet and the philadelphia
orchestra.  they have a huge jazz festival in june, i think.

i'm not sure if i'll be there yet, but if i am i definitely think we
should tailgate in the parking lot!

you know i'm gonna be on the phone at 10am on the 22nd to get those
tickets!!! =)

does anyone else get the impression that because the listing for the
july 23rd show is written:

indigo girls, sarah..., etc.

and the listing for the july 24th show is written:

sarah..., indigo..., etc

that ig is perhaps headlining the show on the 23rd?  anybody got the
inside scoop on this, because i've only *ever* seen sarah listed as top
billing.  anybody think maybe they'll be playing longer on that friday?

i doubt being the first performer gives them any more special credence. it
may just be the way they were scheduled in. this is sm's baby all the way so
if anybody is headining, its her.  i'm surprised she isn't going last again

hey beautiful ig lovers,

i actually learned about this on the patty griffin list -- apparently, an
organization either called "utne" or affiliated with someone named "utne" or
in memory of someone named "utne" (it doesn't really matter :)) is putting
together a compilation for release sometime fairly soon, i believe... oh,
hell, i'll just let you guys see part of her original message:

>from erin@utne.com :
>greetings from minneapolis!
> i'm currently working on putting together a track list for an utne
>reader cd compilation, to be released by rykodisk, entitled:
>"storytellers".  we've come up with an impressive list of
>singer/songwriters - dar williams, emmylou harris, ben harper, kelly
>willis, lyle lovett, bonnie raitt, ani, tom waits, beth orton, natalie
>merchant, john hiatt, shawn colvin, me'shell n'degeocello, among others.

luckily for us, not only are they adding patty griffin and van morrison to
that list, erin wrote back to say that ig is on there too!!  i don't really
know any other information -- sorry, i'm just a humble messenger -- but if i
hear anything else i'll let you know!  if you guys have any more questions,
my guess would be that erin@utne.com would be the place to write, but since
the project is still in the very beginning stages, she probably won't know
much more yet.

shannon :)
(by the way, did i mention that not only am i done with that blasted thesis,
i only have six more days of undergrad classes?!  yay!!!!)

from: pwboston@aol.com

"no boundaries" album, to benefit the refugees of kosovo, will be released
june 15 on epic records; pearl jam's "last kiss" is the first single, in
stores june 8

     new york--(entertainment wire)--may 12, 1999--

album to feature rare, live and unreleased tracks by rage against

the machine, neil young, pearl jam, korn, alanis morissette, tori

amos, the wallflowers, oasis, and more

on june 15, 1999, epic records will release "no boundaries" - a unique
compilation created for the benefit of the refugees of kosovo.

the 16-track album will feature rare, live and previously unreleased
special versions of songs by some of the most popular and acclaimed artists
on the international music scene. the artists confirmed to appear on "no
boundaries" are pearl jam, rage against the machine, alanis morrisette, neil
young, oasis, korn, black sabbath, indigo girls, ben folds five, peter
gabriel, the wallflowers, sarah mclachlan, bush, tori amos, and jamiroquai.

pearl jam's version of "last kiss," the 1964 hit by j. frank wilson &
the cavaliers, will be the first single from "no boundaries." the single
arrives in stores june 8 and includes the b-side "soldier of love," a live
version of the song written and first recorded by arthur alexander. "last
kiss" and "soldier of love" were released initially as the 1998 pearl jam fan
club christmas single and distributed free to fan club members only. both
tracks are included on "no boundaries."

pearl jam manager kelly curtis says: "pearl jam is proud to offer this
small contribution to help improve the appalling conditions of the refugees
suffering from this human rights tragedy in kosovo."

in advance of the album release date and based on projected sales of "no
boundaries," epic records will make an initial donation of $1,000,000 to be
distributed among three international aid organizations--care, oxfam, and
doctors without borders--all of which are working now to provide food,
shelter, medical care and other basic needs to the kosovo refugees. further
donations derived from worldwide sales of "no boundaries" will be made to
these organizations.

"this album is the first collective response by the international music
community to the crisis in kosovo," says david glew, chairman of the epic
records group.  "'no boundaries' is an outstanding collection of music,
created in support of a vital cause."

i found put your green shoes on, and may i say that wild wild party in the
loquat tree is so so so so cute!!!!
i'd even venture to say its cuter then blister in the sun and the howl that
amy does in the new mongrels "jjjj"
yeah...i've listened to it like 20 times....
(of course i also listened to like 3 hours of its the end of the world as we
know it too, cuz the radio station in cleveland the end just went  out of
busines so they played that song for 24 hours, like they did 7 years ago
when it became the end)....

hey, beautiful folks...

several of you have written me asking how to join the patty griffin list,
and i figured it'd be easier to just post it to the list, so here goes:

http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/pattyg.htm#sub

this site has all the info you need at the bottom of the page, as well as a
lot of cool info about patty herself.

on a more personal note, today was sort of a monumental day in my life.  i'd
written an essay for my expository writing class about my best friend
eileen, who is gay.  the essay was about this past summer when we met,
became friends, and eventually had a relationship. (i hope those of my
friends that are on this list can forgive me for telling them this way)

anyway, the point is that when i wrote this essay, i wasn't aware that our
entire 2-hour class period today was going to be spent reading each other's
essays.  so now that i've come out as a bisexual to all of my expository
writing class, including my weird, leprechaun-esque professor, i figure it's
only fair to share it with you guys!

this summer, when i was falling in love with eileen and deciding to break up
with my fiance, "watershed" was like my mantra. i spent the whole summer
trying to convince myself that it would all work out, that i shouldn't worry
too much, lest my "agony" become my "heaviest load."  anyway, i broke up
with matt (thank god ;)) and stayed with eileen until my fear of being gay
caught up with me.  after awhile, i came to my senses and realized i was
still in love with her, but she was already involved with someone else and
didn't know if she could trust me again.

anyway, i guess i'm writing this to all of you in hopes that you'll support
me in my decision to just tell people that i'm bisexual (ie: my parents and
my friends).  the bad news is that my parents will weep.  the good news is
that i got an email from eileen tonight, saying that she misses me and wants
to try to work things out.  i'm really afraid to get my hopes up, but i'll
just have to wait and see what happens.

thanks for listening to my babbling.  and if you have any more questions
about the patty griffin thing, just let me know. :)

~shannon,
who thinks it's pretty *darn* (no strikes for this gal) cool that she can
tell her problems to 700 intimate strangers and not feel weird about it!

hey...i was thinking....wouldn't it be great if ig did a childrens album?
maybe after they're done w/ epic or something...in like 10 years....
all the old folkies seem to put out kids ablums...so they could go well in
that tradition!!
it would just be so cute, and i bet the stuff would be cool....
maybe i just like kids music! (one of my most fave songs is somebody come
and play, the sesame street song...its my anthem!)

carol
(who's annoyed cuz shes really been wanting to hear ig on the radio lately,
and i finally heard soy but it was from the "road block trippin" so it was
almost over......)

here in providence, on the 11 o clock news on nbc they used shame on you as
background music as they announce d the line up for nff and showed a little
clip of the girls...(not bad since they only showed like 2 clips of
musicians, the rest were crowd shots) just thought i would share
