i was accepted to mary washington college in
early january and was very excited to begin the
college process. most of all i was in great
anticipation of getting my roomate assingment. so
last night i get a call from megan, my new roomate.
she sounds very awesome, so it put all my fears of
having a wacko for a roomate at ease. our
conversation was great and the height of it was when
we talked about music. she is into the same stuff i
am (women folk rockers, guitar stuff, classic rock)
and it turns out that she is almost as obsessed with
ig as i am. she is going to lilith this summer and we
might actually meet there. my father says that it
figures that i got an ig fan as a roomate, it just
wouldn't be right if i didn't.
so that is my semi ig moment. i hope you guys
enjoyed it. sorry for the waste if bandwith (sp?).

ps - if anyone out there know's anything about my
college (mary washington) i would like to hear it b/c
i do not know anyone at the school or even in the area

when i was a dj at ktxt when i was in school, out of all the times i had a
shift, which was once a week for 4 years, ig only came up once on the
playlist....however, for 1 year, i was host for the noon show, power lunch,
which basically was a call in request show. i took some liberties with that
like we all did...example
caller: can you play ministry?
me: it's pretty full already, i'll try and sneak it in (it was rarely full to
the point of not having room except at the very end of the show)
i hate ministry and all that other techno metal stuff, so i would play stuff
i liked in place of crap like that...like ig, like ani, etc...stuff that
never came up in rotation (ani wasn't on the playlist at all, no one had
heard of her and we hadn't gotten any promo cds so i really took some
liberties there)
it was a beautiful thing... :)

sorry for the waste of bandwidth but i swore to at&t that i was going to
spread the word about their crummy service so here is goes...
my g/f bought 2 phones online from at&t wireless 4 weeks ago. her's worked,
mine never wanted to connect to the network so after 2 weeks of trying, they
finally decided i had a dud. i've now been trying for 2 weeks to get a
replacement. i have heard everything from "it's on it's way", "it will be
there tomorrow", to "our computer network has been up and down for 3 weeks
and i have no clue when your order will go through"
they think i might have a working a phone in 2 weeks but can't be sure. it
may be 4 more weeks, it may be 6 more weeks, it could be 52 more weeks...they
don't know...
bottom line is...if you're in the market for a pcs wireless phone, don't buy
it from at&t and if you do...don't buy it online....

tickets for bumbershoot may or may not be available through the mountain
kmtt website
http://www.bumbershoot.com
on july 15th. i checked the site yesterday and they didn't have ig
information up yet, however i would continue checking because the rem show
has been up on the site for several days/weeks. i assume the ig show will
be like the rem show in that you will have to purchase tickets in advance
to get in. the bumbershoot festival is $10.00 per day to get in or $18 for
a two day pass. the rem show costs even more to get in, so i'm assuming
the ig show will be similar. (it's the big event for that
evening--mainstage) it is festival seating so get in line with the rest of
us!! early!!

if bumbershoot works like it usually does, the admission price covers
the concert. rem tickets are extra because it is really the day before
bumbershoot. bumbershoot runs fri-mon labor day weekend. last couple of
years,(or maybe just last year) an early line up for bracelets was
required, and you couldn't get into the stadium for the big show unless
you had a bracelet on. if you want to be in front for ig, be prepared to
attend earlier shows so you can get to the front. last time they were
here, i decided not to brave the (huge) crowd and sat in the stadium
seats which was not so great cause the sound sucked at he sides and i
couldn't hear the lyics to any of the then new songs. i am not sure what
i am going to do this year, i am kind of spoiled by the concerts at the
pier and the paramount, so i have a feeling i might go for it.(the
front.) it's been a long time since i've seen our girls....

i had one of the rare blue sys promo cds, but have somehow lost the cd. i still
have the cover, but i have no idea of where the disk itself is. is there
someone out there in indigo-land with a cd burner and the disk who is willing to
make me a copy?
i've been using blister in the sun as the opening song for my radio show (which
is where i somehow lost it) and the tape player in the studio doesn't work
(college radio station), so that's why i need it on cd. i've got boots to trade
and i'll even send you a blank cdr.

hello!
i was thinking about putting a tape together of all the new songs
that can be kind of like an album preview. (along the lines of the mapped
compilation that was put together around the time i first joined the list
that has different versions of sots songs that we all thought were going
to be on there) i'm pretty sure i have most of the new songs on
tapes that i have sitting in a pile on my desk, but i'm trying to come up
with titles to look for. since my brain can double as a fine sieve, can
you all add to this list?
boys just laugh
go (the suffragette song)
soon be to nothing
cold beer and a remote control
sister
chiapas bound--will this one make the new album?
winthrop
..and here's about where i go blank. :)
perhaps this is a tape that could be treed so everyone could get a listen?
just a thought. (seems like there's been a lot of requests for boots with
new songs on them lately here and on the newsgroup)
just an idea,
kelly

y'know, it'd be interesting to see how our eventual list of songs we
think might be on the new album matches wth the songs that are actually
on the new album - i don't know, maybe we could run some sort of a
competiton for who gets closest to the actual album listing......
i don't whether it was karma or what, but i had a really spooky indigo
moment this afternoon.... at the same time as i was organising my plane
tickets to go to the usa, which includes an ig concert (thanks
lisa!!!!), i picked up a copy of the vonda and emily single.....
hmmmmmmm.........

hkf's,
along those lines of guessing what's on the album exactly - i want to first
narrow down who's songs they all are. generally there will be half & half
amy & emily songs so that could probably narrow down the choices a little
more. anyway, i have a lot of blanks... (plus some are just guesses!)
anyone can help? (there's got to be more emily songs for sure!!!)

for amy, the first five songs were mentioned on the website - while little

hey all you fellow seattle-area listees! just a brief distraction from the
excitement of our girls coming to bumbershoot in september. purely out of
idle curiosity, i was wondering how many of us were going to pride this year.
maybe it's just me, but it almost seems like a golden opportunity for an
informal list meet/gathering. my wife and i will definitely be there,
probably with a couple of our friends who've never been to pride in tow. you
won't be able to miss us...we'll be the two butches camped out in front of
sbc on broadway...me in my gorgeous, wonderful, couldn't live without it list
shirt, courtesy of the marvelous, spectacular, amazing amy swenson. i'll
also be the one with the coffee iv hook-up. :) anyway, i hope to see as many
of you there as possible....it would be a hoot and a holler to finally see
the faces behind the posts. :)

cooper will be playing atlanta pridefest on saturday, june 26 at 2:30. in
the 7-7:30 spot on the same day "very special guest" is listed. there is
definitely a daemon showcase on sunday. i think it's at 7:00. i'd love to
go, but sense i'm planning a four-concert pilgrimage in august, i don't
think it's possible.

sorry to do this but,,....someone was raving 'bout a cd they picked up by
lorn(a/e) hunt and how great it was. so i've gone to a bunch of alt record
stores looking for it with no luck. could that person let me know what label
she's on or some more info to find it? and if anyone else has some great music
they think the world should be listening to, please share.(#1 is always the
girls tho' :@) )
(i'd recommend tina & the b-sides (movement) local lesbian rock hero, gangsta
folker john wesley harding, or the super soul of joe tex)
thanks a bunch-josh

hey y'all!
so, i've moved to the bay area finally, and i'm going to be at san jose
pride and san francisco pride. is anyone else going? also, i could use
some pointers to good concerts/local music/clubs/etc.
i'm gonna try to wear my list tee shirt, but since i'm still in the
process of unpacking, i have to find my clothes first! :)
for those of you who _still_ want a shirt, i have about 3-4 left, all in
xl, various colors.
see ya!

the guide is 32 pages long and rather unwieldy to cut and past the whole
thing. if someone wants to give it a try and can load .pdf files, the link
is here: <http://www.atlantapride.org/prideguide/index.html

anyone want to guess which songs might become singles? since in the past
they've always pick the more "upbeat" songs (gaileo, shame on you....), since
i've only heard a couple of the new songs, i'll guess either is go by amy, or
other "upbeat" songs by emily mentioned by amy in the morning interview.
(really wild guesses, isn't it? :) ) any other guesses?

ok - i'd reccomend steve poltz (who i saw supporting jewel a couple of weeks ago -
if you ever get the chance to see him live, ask him to play the star wars song :-)
lol!!). morcheeba is very cool - lovely to relax to........
oh - and beverley knight (british r & b singer) as well..........

y'know, i was reading an article about that list in a uk newspaper (guardian, if
anybody's interested), and it got me thinking - where were any of the tales of
the city books? and for that matter, where was anything by jeanette winterson
(specifically, oranges are not the only fruit)?
then again, i guess everybody will have a list of novels they think should have
been included on that list......

hey all! hope everyone is enjoying the start to the weekend.
just wanted to share my indigo moment of the week:
at my work today, we had the red cross taking blood. last time i
tried to give blood they couldn't find a vein, so i deceided to try
again (i'm a glutton for punishment, what can i say?).
well, after going through all the paperwork, and finally being led to
a table, i get poked and they start taking my blood. i'm lying there,
listening to the music, when i hear vonda's voice. i listen harder and
realize i know the song...it's emily's song! i start singing to the
song and the nurse walks over and asks if i'm ok. she says she's never
seen anyone so happy while giving blood before. i just smiled and
asked what station was playing. after she told me (mix 103 for those
fans in scranton/wb) i continued to sing along. she came back as the
song ended and told me that my blood was stopping. i just laughed.
what can i say, my girls make my heart race.

went out to dinner with some friends last night and was all psyched when
they started playing "closer to fine" out of nowhere. my friend lori and
i were all psyched, and our other friends (one - the compliant babydyke
and the other who just doesn't know what she is, and that's okay) didn't
know all the words and we were like "bad lesbians! we must fix this! you
will know the girls!" *grins*
of course then we were crossing the street after leaving the restaurant
and some redneck hick yelled "dykes!" as he drove away, and we were like
"fuck yeah!" never let it be said that my friends and i aren't outspoken.
and then my roomie picked my up after work and shame on you was on the
radio and he was blaring it *grins* i taught him well. :)
that is all.

hey peoples,
according to the rolling stone article they have already recorded
*13* tracks
and hadn't finished yet (though they were beginning mixing in 2 weeks so i
doubt they would have added more - tho we can always hope :)
>(amy)
>faye tucker
>gone again
>go

>let's make peace
>winthrop
so there is room for little darling along with the already recorded
compromise. personally i'm hoping forgiveness will be included (but
i haven't heard little darling so i may love that just as much)
what about the boys just laugh - i haven't heard it - would it be worth
being included?
as for singles go seems likely - but perhaps has it received such a press
push just because its on the "no boundaries" compilation (correct me if
that isn't the song on there, going by memory)
tho it would make an excellent single anyway.
another song that has a lot of press coverage is faye tucker
(from indigo swing http://www.lifeblood.net/articles/1999/990603.html)
june 3, 1999 -- the austin american-statesman
indigo swing by chris riemenschneider
<snip>
the atlanta duo has a new song on the album called "faye tucker," about
the karla faye tucker execution that happened in huntsville around the
time that the girls were in austin last spring.
amy ray and emily sailers unveiled the impassioned folk tune at their
zapatistas benefit at the backyard in may of '98, and they are expected to
make a big push of the song as well as their opposition of the death
penalty upon the album's release.
<snip>
i'm not overly fond of the song- could just be the version i heard tho
(problem child - starkville, miss 19 apr 98, one of the few i've heard
along with go/problem child and gone again), could just be the angle the
journo is taking
looking forward to hearing what they have done with it since.
those who have heard the other songs - what are they like - tempo/style
wise?
which of the emily songs sounds singlish - most of them (from the titles)
sound like slow songs - thought she said it would be most electric (maybe
electric in the sense of the beginning of touch me fall?)
do you think cold beer and a remote control has single potential?
sorry to rave so long - but hey its all igc :)
joanna
ps - something wierd happen to this email (pieces of text appearing in the
wrong places. hopefully i fixed it all up - but if not thats why)

hi,
the stanhope show is on aug 6th...the venue is outdoors but there is going
to be a tent with chairs and then the rest i think is going to be lawn
seats...stanhope is located in northern new jersey not far from the
penn...it's about 10 minutes or so off of route 80...i'd say 1-1/2 hours
from nyc...it's going to just be the girls from what has been advertised so
it will really be the only solo show besides the one in saratoga for the
summer so far...hope this was a help...

just gonna offer to turn this into a big cdr tree event thing (but not
wanting to steal somones idea in the process, so slap me if needed...) to
follow from my bsides and blue food boots. i can prolly do a little
remastering/cleaning up where possible and necessary.
so here's the question - we have all these songs listed. where's the best
sounding version from?? i haven't been paying too much attention at all, but
here's what i got to start off:
go: 'no bounderies'
gone again: michigan live (preferably recorded off air, not from ra like
mine is)
sister (9:30 club)
soon to be nothing (9:30 club)
ozilene (9:30 club)
anything else either i haven't got or haven't been paying attention to, but
if there's any radio shows, sounboards, or top audience recordings for these
and any of the others, and if it's cool with you guys, i can probably make a
damn good cd. of course, i need copies of the songs i don't have - mp3s even
might work, depending...
just an idea to toss into the ether...

you'll want to use a version other than the 9:30 for this song -
amy only played a verse or two. i think the song may still have been
incomplete at the time.

hi,
i thought this might be a good place to notify people about the ani defranco
concert in st. louis on june 30. for those of you who have tickets it is not
in forest park it has been moved to the fox theater. it will still be
general admission and the doors still open at 6:30pm. it should serve to be
an excellent concert and now more tickets will be available, so get them now.

house bill 472 (defense of marriage act in massachusetts) will be voted on
by the joint house-senate judiciary committee before june 22! this
important bill simply defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
the best way to get information is to go to <http//www.macfm.org> and urge
the members of the house and senate judiciary committees to overturn house
bill 472!

all -
i just went to the ticketmaster web site, and found an indigo girls
only, i believe, concert at the waterloo village. tickets went on sale
may 15th! but it's not posted on the tour page, so i'm puzzled.
does anyone know what waterloo village is like? is it huge? there are
still tickets left (even expensive ones) but the link to the seating
chart is not working, so i can't tell how bad they are.

hi,
does anyone know the origin of emily's and amy's surnames? amy's could be
a derivative of the irish surname "rea", which is pronounced the same - or
do i just want her to be irish, like me? never came across a saliers
before, though. can anyone enlighten me?
fare thee well, my bright star(s).
