heya folks,

the girls are becoming quite the comedy central faves,
aren't they?  yesterday on win ben stein's money
(actually very difficult questions on this show
despite the silly category names) there was a category
called "how many licks does it take to get to the
center of an indigo girl?"  the question turned out to
be about lilith fair.

on the other cable front, i've been dilligently
watching the three hours of insomniac music theater on
vh1 every night, but alas, no vonda (and possibly
emily) video.  i have however seen about as much
shania twain and lenny kravitz as i can take.  i have
my hopes up for tonite though, since it's been a week
since they last aired the video.

greetings listees,=20

we at honor the earth have been reading the recent posts regarding a =
donation gift for emily's birthday. we just wanted to reiterate the fact =
that both emily and amy are co-founders of this non-profit organization, =
and any support towards the campaign is greatly appreciated. in fact, =
headquarters recently spoke with both girls during a conference call, =
where they expressed excitement and gratitude towards the list for their =
continued support. they realize the reason why we at honor the earth =
decided to create this fundraiser as a list-based drive is because of =
your past generosity and dedication to the girls and their interests. =
because of this, they and we believe it would be harder to have 2 =
seperate fundraisers going at the same time, one for emily's birthday, =
as well as the hte fundraiser which has already begun. emily is =
extremely excited about doing an hte tour in the year 2000, and =
considering the tours are our best gift to the community, as well as our =
best source of revenue and education, we first need to figure out how we =
can raise the money to make the tour a possibility.=20

greta and i are happy to accomodate this fundraiser to those of you =
interested in creating a birthday gift for emily. those of you who wish =
to make your donation purely for emily's gift, just write "emily's =
birthday" on the check, or include a note with your donation, and we =
will be happy to make a card with all of your names included, as well as =
total amount raised for emily towards this campaign.  we also wish to =
stress to you that even though the donations will be collected by =
non-listees, that this is thought of as a completely list-run =
fundraiser.  you are the ones who have brought the seed of an idea to =
our minds, you are the ones who's generosity and enthusiasm has =
continued to bring the light of both emotional and financial hope to the =
campaign, and we promise that you all are the ones who will be credited =
for the success of this fundraiser.  we would never go so far as to =
dictate who you should share this incredible generosity with, but if you =
do not wish to direct your efforts to honor the earth, we are asking for =
your re-consideration of possibly postponing the other planned drive =
until a later date. =20

thank you again so much for your time, support and understanding.

hi everyone. in order to influence my friends' taste in music, i'm putting
together a sampler tape of the music i like to send to them. and of course,
indigo girls would be my big focus. i'd like to pick one emily song and one
amy song that represent their style most, which is very hard because they
have so many different styles. i'm struggle between ghost, language or the
kiss, everything in its own time, for emily's song. for amy, chickenman, this
train revised, kid fears, fugitive, shed y skin for amy's. any other
suggestions?? what would be your pick?

thanks!!

neil has been a bad person and procrastinated on this. he feels very bad
about this.

(some of you may know that neil needs prodding from time to time. if you're
waiting for an email or whatever, please prod away. neil does not
intentionally ignore people - he's not a bad person!)

we have offers for most of the new tracks. we just let them know how
thankful we are, and got more optimistic as we went along. i'm sure they'll
all follow through!

here's the deal. still need these songs

>> >>soon be to nothing--emily
>> >>winthrop  (e)

>> >>philosophy of loss--emily

if someone has these on tape (or better cdr) then please let me know and we
can work out a trade or somthing (or at least a priority copy of the
finished doohickey).

for those who don't know, the plan is to compile a cd of the new songs, some
of which we can expect to hear on the new album. when it's ready, we can
tree it or neil can just make copies. never fear, a message will be posted
to the list at the appropriate time...

peace and love to all...

lyrics to new ani song about gun violence:
to the teeth (?)
first known performance : june 14, 1999

the sun is setting on the century and we are armed to the teeth.
we're all working together now to make our lives mercifully brief.
and school kids keep trying to teach us what guns are all about.
confuse liberty with weaponry and watch your kids act it out.
and every year now like christmas some boy gets the milk fed suburban blues
reaches for the available arsenal and saunters off to make the news.
and the women in the middle are learning what poor women have always known
that the edge is closer than you think when the men bring the guns home.
look at where the profits are
that's how you'll find the source of the big lie
that you and i both know so well.
by the time it takes this cultural death wish to run it's course,
they're gonna make a pretty penny and then they're going to hell.
he said the chickens all come home to roost. malcolm forecast it this way.
are we really going to sleep through another century while the rich profit
off our blood?
yeah, it may take some doing to see this undoing through.
but in my humble opinion, here's what i suggest we do.
open fire on hollywood... open fire on mtv. open fire on nbc and cbs and abc.
open fire on the nra and all the lies they told us along the way.
open fire on each weapons manufacturer while he's giving head to some
republican senator.
and if i and if i hear one more time about a fool's right to his tools of
rage,
i'm gonna take all my friends and i'm going to move to canada
and we're going to die of old age.

well, as far as amy's concerned, i'd definitely stick with chickenman, along with
this train revised. as for emily - either watershed, southland in the springtime
(yes, you can tell what one of my fav. albums is......), and the wood song.

songs that i have picked to put on tapes for people who are unfamiliar
with ig:

for my emily picks:
closer to fine
galileo
watershed

for my amy picks:
world falls
shed your skin
touch me fall
and if i'm including covers:  all along the watchtower

personally, i try to stay away from chickenman, just because i know a few
ig fans who despise that song.  as much as i love the groove in that song,
the word chickenman can be a bit awkward in the beginning...

oooh oooh "touch me fall" or "blood and fire" for amy
and for emily it would have to be either "love's
recorvery" or "southland in the springtime"....but of
course "land of cannan" would have to be on there too
along with "closer to fine"....got to have classics as
well as quinticential style songs......

i was at border's books of all places and found a cd in the folk section called
the silverwolf story. (i'm not sure if this has been talked about before or not)
but it had a song called butler field by caroline ailen (or is it aiken)  w/the
indigo girls.  it has some other great songs by ani difranco (coming up), catie
curtis (dandelion) , dar williams (the baby sitters here), michael veitch w/
shawn colvin and wendy bucklew doing a couple of songs, including one good
reason, which is a song i can put on repeat  for hours and hours.
on a non-ig story i'm excitied for this upcoming week-end.  a group of ten of us
have rented a cabin on the
north shore of lake superior for the week-end and we all got tickets for the
paul simon/bob dylan concert. yahoo!

i always lurk but i had to respond to this.  these
might be boring to many, but for their representations
of style, musical talent, lyrical talent, and theme,
you've got to pick:

amy:  jonas and ezekial (sp?)  great beat, kinda
dance-beat, kinda ballad in places.  beautiful lyrics,
great social themes running through... everything
amy's good at.  shows how she explores (literally and
musically) and cares about people and places.

emily--closer to fine:  great lyrics/music, emily's
optimism and sense of humor, it's ballady and dancey
at the same time.  sweet and serious at the same time.

there are no other perfect choices:  both are works of
poetic art, as well as musical masterpieces--

vicki

sorry for posting to the whole list, but since i have a message to mandy
and one for the list, i thought i'd do them both together.  mandy, i
might be interested in those spac tix - that is if i can talk my gf into
going to the show with me - she's not a big fan at all, but i still like
her. ;)  i already have 3 tix but may need additional tix, but if you
can sell them before i get back to you, please do.  don't hold them for
me by any means - get rid of them if you can and i'll check back with
you at some point to see if they are still available if i shoud need
them.

next item on the agenda - remember someone set up a listserve for those
that plan to attend the nff and the spac show?  well, i cannot get in to
that site - i've tried 7 times and each time my computer freezes up and
i get the message "you have been denied access" (no shit sherlock)  "you
are performing an illegal operation".  ???  so, if there are plans for a
listmeet at either of these shows, would someone please let me know?
i'm not interested in trying to arrange a ride, but i would love to meet
some of you.  i know its early and maybe nothing is in the works yet,
but i would appreciate it if someone would keep me in the loop - email
privately of course.  thanks!

well i was watching that show the blame game on mtv the other day and i don't
know how many of you have seen it but its a couple who has broken up and the
they are pretty much trying to decide whose fault it was that they broke up.
anyway the guy was like yeah well one time she went away for a weekend and
came back with a big hickey on her neck.  and then the girl said that her
friend who just happened to be a girl did it as a joke to make the boyfriend
dude jealous.  well, then the guy was like sure you were probably in room
alone listening to the indigo girls live cd and it just put you in the
mood.....or something like that.  i think its kinda funny how every time
anything gay happens the indigo girls are mentioned.  well anyway that was
long, involved and boring enough so i'll shut up now.
