to make up for the previous nigc, here's a little igc:

here are the lyrics, as i've heard them, for two of the new amy songs you'll
are talking about.   these are definitely open for corrections!

sister  (as played at the roxy in atlanta on 8/5)
sister i'm heading out of alabama
so you'd better think fast
the wind's gonna pick me up now
and the rain won't stop

i'm heading down to georgia
so don't lose track
of where you been and where you going now
and who you've seen and what they lack
and why you come undone
every time you go there
and how you come undone

i know your heart's in danger
and so is your life
you'd better learn to trust a stranger
and stop & rest for a night

see a sign up in the headlights
and a moon up above won't be enough
light the embers of another
and the night won't seem so rough
sister....

there was a bloody beast of burden
on a dark texas road
and a woman in a family way
and a car that lost control
i'm studying the distance
>from the blanket to the gun
it's ten hours to natchez
and another ten home

i know your heart's in danger
and so is your life
you'd better learn to trust a stranger
and stop & camp for the night

see a sign up in the headlights
and a moon up above
light the embers of another
and the night won't seem so rough
sister
go ahead
come on now

it was trust that brought me here
and trust will bring me home

little darling (played at eddie's attic at the chiapas benefit on 8/2/98)
i said hey little darling
there's something that you should know
they're saying it's gonna hound every soul
this thing they won't let us go
gonna break us down to nothing
gonna eat us from the inside out
i said hey little darling
i don't want you to feel it fall down (???)

i said the cancer finally took him
i was watching the trucks pull in
me and your daddy
we had a job under the ground
mining uranium
some things your daddy leaves you
some things he don't
some things are goinna be here anyhow
some things just won't
one thing i want you to understand
is you ain't gotta be a mining man
i cursed the day that i went down
and pulled that shit out of the ground

now we were living over in nevada
that's where your people come from
grandma would take me and your daddy
on down to the gunnery range
we sit and watch the bombs blow
until the sun goes down
all those colors running like the painted desert
and you get to see it now

the government boys have something so damn secret
they had to hide it in the desert sand
out there the skies so big
and there ain't no mistaking it
whose got the winning hand

i said i've been all the way to alaska now
to a town they call point of hope
they took some of what we got down here
to see how it would grow
i hear the lichen bought it
and now it's running through the caribou
and soon little darling you'll get to feel it too
you'll get to feel it too
get to feel it too

what follows are lyrics to new indigo girl songs.
they haven't been posted here lately, so:

boys just laugh
(amy ray)

the boy he thinks i'm damaged goods
i know he does and i guess he should
i dress like him and i take him down
he gets embarrassed when his friends come around

i can get the girl
but the boys just laugh
i can get the girls
but the boys just laugh

so this is a measure of me
even though it shouldn't be
the lion lays down with the lamb
but i can't do it so i ain't worth a d*mn

i can get the girls
but the boys just laugh
i can get the girls
but the boys just laugh at me

come on now graceful
i want you to be
come on now social
i said i want you to be
come on now special
i want you to be
i want you to be

i the virgin in the woods
tell me now if they are good

is it the boys who needed me
i am you and you set it free

i get the girls
but the boys just laugh
i get the girl
but the boys he laughs at me

i said this is the measure of me
and even though it shouldn't be
the lion lays down with the lamb
yeah but i can't do it and i ain't worth a d*mn

cold beer and remote control
(emily saliers)

all of my days have been misspent
stuffing out the sofa and the antennas bent
inside my hearts busting out at the seams
i work for the impossible american dream

i got a job at the grocery store
a few bucks an hour and not much more
the world comes in just to take things away
eat it all up and then they sleep until day

i try not to care i would lose my mind
running round after the same thing time after time
only two things bound to soothe my soul
cold beer and remote control

once upon a time i was nobodys fool
two jobs and showing up for school
i guess it comes apart so little by little
you don't know your there until your stuck in the middle

i try not to care i would lose my mind
running round the same thing time after time
only two things bound to soothe my soul
cold beer and remote control

sit down
the room is dark
the blurry graffiti on the benches
across at the public park

the plastic splatter
(the plastic splatter)
the haze is blue
(the haze is blue)
all i want
(want)
is nothing to do
(to do)

cause it's a long walk to the bus stop
it's a long wait for the turning clock
a too tired car sitting up on the blocks
and things i put aside like that pile of rocks

i try not to care i would lose my mind
running round the same thing time after time
only two things bound to soothe my soul
cold beer and remote control

yes i try not to care i would lose my mind
(all of my days have been misspent)
running round the same thing time after time
(stuffing out the sofa and the antennas bent)
only two things bound to soothe my soul
(inside my hearts busting out at the seams)
cold beer and remote control
(i work for the impossible american dream)

yeah

cold beer and remote control
(i said i guess it comes apart so little by little yeah)
yeah beer and remote control
(i said i guess it comes apart so little by little yeah)
yeah

hkf's,

last post - i promise!  ;)
i looked at my quote (see below) and it's slightly different than the little
darlin' version that is on lifeblood which is  from a different show.  so
basically, while assuming these are both accurate, amy is still changing the
lyrics around slighty.  it is a new song, so who knows how the actual
released version will come out - and whether it will come out in this next
album or not is another question.  anyway, if you want to check out the
other versions or whatever...  here's the link to lifeblood - unreleased
original lyrics.

happy weekend!

<< um hi

some of you folks said you went to lilith at the gorge. could you kindly
tell us about the setlist, the girls, etc.?

okay, so i will do my best to remember.  i can't do an incredible job though
cuz #1, i didn't watch mya, and number two.....i did not enjoy liz phair and
struggled to just concentrate on making the bad music finish...lol sorry any
fans of hers.  anyways, so when i got there, no other than the beautiful
murmurs were playing (they weren't put in the lineup til i don't even know
when- i didn't know they were gonna be there).  so, the songs i heard them
sing were smash and i'm a mess.  i'm guessing that they sang la di da first,
but i have no clue.  luckily, i got to go talk to leisha hailey after their
set (you know! the pink haired girl from all over me!!!!....=)) and she was
really cool.  i was a wee bit too nervous to be coherent and have a real
conversation but i got my pic taken with her!!! yeah!!! okay anyway, then
bijou philips sang some songs......not familiar with her either....sorry
everybody.  then beth orton, i'll do my best to remember at least a few of
her songs....she sang she cries your name, sugar boy, galaxy of emptiness?,
um.....i dont' know....but she was really, really good.  then there was mya,
and i have no idea what she sang.  then sixpence none the richer, and they
sang a cover of a song by the law's? okay, not familiar with them.  they also
of course sang kiss me and soem other songs of theres.  they were actually
good too, which surprised me (i think i expected the whole one hit wonder
thing).  then luscious jackson performed and they did naked eye, ladyfingers,
nervous breakthrough, and some more songs from there first album and such.
oh, and before luscious jackson, sandra bernhard did a 15 minute set thing.
she was really funny making fun of "anorexic chick folksingers" like jewel
and alanis.  for her second set she joked about her friendship with courtney
love, which was also really funny.  then liz phair performed and i'm sorry,
but i have no clue what she sang. she sang some new songs about love and hate
or something, but i was struggling to plug my ears for most of it.  sheryl
crow performed after that. she started with that song, i think its called a
change. then she did stuff like my favorite mistake, anything but down, and
there goes the neighborhood.  she did an awesome version of every day is a
winding road in which everybody got up and danced and sang along. she also
sang if it makes you happy and then some other songs, i think a new one and a
song about some guy that she treated like crap, i have no idea what it was
called.  she was really awesome though and she got everybody pumped up.  then
sarah started off her set with possessions. then she did black and white,
hold on (yes!!!!), i will remember you, building a mystery, adia, and she
ended with an awesome version of fumbling towards ecstacy, full out with
mirror balls and all.  her encore was angel, which i found kind of
dissappointing since she has performed it so many times....i was hopin for
good enough, but that's okay.  the collaboration was a song that i am not
familiar with though, but it was really good.  i think the best part about
this years lilith was the energy in the crowd and the excitement of everyone
taht was there.  of course we were all there for the music, but the energy of
the evening will be more memorable for me.  sorry this was so long for those
of you who are actually still reading =)

hi again :) that wasn't a dumb question.. the movie chasing indigo is a
comedy/adventure about two girls who find $2 million and quickly stash it
under a bus.. the bus just happens to be the indigo girls tour bus and they
basically follow it through the honour the earth tour through the midwest
reservations.. trying to get the money back. but during this time one of the
girls, a native american.. learns more about her culture and basically they
learn more about themselves and in the end they fall for each other. that is
the very brief version of it.. but it's actually very funny in parts :) if
anyone sees it eventually.. i'm the redhead with the australian accent :)

there aren't any big names in it.. but we do have bob hope's grandson.. and
another girl who just landed a role opposite jeff goldblum and darryl
hannah, so that's cool :) our director is trying to get the girls to make a
cameo appearance in it, so hopefully that will work out :)

it sure was an adventure for me.. i totally loved minnesota as well :)

take care everyone :)

love melanie

i haven't been to lilith yet, either.  i have until august til we go
on our lilith vacation...going to four in eight days.  can hardly wait.
numerous friends on the fte list have given reviews and such.  sheryl
crow is tearing it up, from what i understand.  sarah's getting mixed
reviews, but that's because people expect her to be something she's
not...the media in particular.  she has no new material and a lot of
people are getting bored, but that's because their not paying attention..hehe.
sarah isn't as spontaneous as, say artists like igs.  that's not her style,
but people still expect it....oh, well.  all in all, my friends are saying
that lilith is rocking this year.  here are the setlists for sarah and
sheryl from vancouver:

sarah:
last dance
possession
black and white (at the piano!!)
hold on
adia
ice cream
iwry (no piano with guitar)
bam
ss
fumbling
angel as encore

sheryl:
a change
my favorite mistake
anything but down
everyday is a winding road
am i gettgin through parts 1 and 2
if it makes you happy
the different kind
sweet child
there goes the neighborhood

sarah's set remains the same, sheryls changes slightly at each show.
i think she did it don't hurt and strong enough at seattle, instead
of am i getting through and sweet child o mine....something like that.

as far as funny stories, some pretty good looking women flashed sarah
during her set.  sarah got a kick out of it and asked her to do it again
and the woman obliged her.  sarah laughed and said, "girlfriend's got on
a sparklie bra!  where the hell do you even get a sparklie bra?"

at shoreline, sarah & band had an off night the first show.  the next
show she asked how many people were there the night before and apologized
for the "fucked up show."  i love her honesty.  sheryl's been kicking
ass every night from what everyone was saying.

i can hardly wait until august.  i get igs, sheryl and sarah closing

hey--long time no post.

gold=500,000 copies of an album sold
platinum=1,000,000 copies sold
multi platinum= damn lot of albums sold

i am not positive on this but i believe every ig release has at least gone
gold.  many have gone platinum as well.  anyone have exact figures?

all have gone gold (except maybe strange fire and 1200 curfews?), and swamp
ophelia went platinum. they presented producer peter collins with a platinum
record for s.o. onstage when they played in nashville in july 1994.  wahoo!

hey all.. i was browsing the other day and came across this site with lyrics
to various indigo girls songs...  i found one i wasnt familiar with...  has
anyone ever heard of it? it's called the distance remains the same... it can
be found at http://members.xoom.com/lildove/indigo_girls.htm

here are the lyrics:
time where have you left mehere without a heartwithout an answer
i tried to open my eyesi tried to see the songall things considered
this much remains the samehit that wall againthe same old barrier
time after time i've tried to glimpse the other side
oh and time surely made me seei was taking your love so carelesslynow we know
though it doesn't do much good anymorei still feel the old familiar pain
it could be that love is blindi was blind to all your reasoning
but at the start you were blind to menow i guess you could say we're even
isn't that what we always wanted to be
putting our souls on the line to win this gamei'm feeling the strain
i'll always love youthrough all this distanceall these barriers
trying to erase the painerase the painerase the pain

alright so i just spent a week on cape cod. one rainy day we went to
provincetown (i was with my family). i have never really waled around p'town
before because my parents are (ack!) extremely homophobic. my dad more so
than my mom (all i can say is they better not find out about me any time
soon!). but anyways, i bought a shirt at a store and the girl behind the
counter was playing catie curtis and i was just like, "hey! i know this!" and
we got into this 1/2 hour discussion about music. we had a very similar
interest in music... the indigo girls, ani, dar, lucy, etc. it was great! and
it was definitely enough to lift my spirits from my parents cracking gay
jokes (man that bugged me!). anyways, i love provincetown!
random yes.
bye!

hello fellow listies! yes, i have once again peeked out from beyond the
shadows of lurkdom to bring to you my latest excitment! last week i shared
with you the great belated birthday gift of emily's pick from my friend and
fellow list  member ( tara from bama) i love ya man! hehehe.  well this week
actually today i was lucky caller # 7 and won a free pair of tix to lilith!!
weeeeeeeeeeee!  the best part of this is the fact that winning those tix has
qualified me for the "grand prize" (to be announced mon.)  which is to become
the reporter for the station  at the press confrence the mornning of the
show!! ok that would rule!!! it also consists of back stage passes and 2
front row tix to the show!! ok can i just say how much this would kickass if
i win? granted the girls aren't playing in dallas however, getting the chance
to ask sarah, sheryl, shawn, the girls of luscious jackson, bif naked, ana
egge, trish murphy....etc.... to ask them questions and hang out backstage
would rock!!!  ok i think i've been out in the sun way to long.....cross your
fingers, toes, arms, legs..(well you get the point) for me on monday. if i
win i'll crawl back out from the shadows and let you know.  may you all have
as much fun in life as i'm having! til we meet again, "a lurking i must go ,
a lurking i must go , hi oh a cheerio, a lurking i must go!" lol ok i just
said cheerio?..lol

thanks to everyone who helped me educate clare. sometimes she only
understands numbers.  she's been at it again... today, in the car with ig on
the tape deck, i was just singing along, quite happily.... ghost started.....
and clare started singing with me.... she knows the words but doesn't usually
sing; really couldn't carry a tune in a bucket... but she started
singing..... and she sang the whole song, as elmer fudd -- with a lisp.
picture elmer fudd, give him another speech impediment... and that's what
clare did to ghost.  i told her that i was going to have to tattle to the
list on her.  does anyone have any ideas for suitable punishment?  she's a
bad, bad, girl.....

hey guys,

there is an awsome female singer who will be
performing at joplins tonight in lexington, ky....her
name is lori simpson and let me just tell you, this
woman moved me to poetry the first time i heard her
sing...she can do melissa etheridge better than
melissa....trust me...i have included the poem i wrote
in this email...so you cna see how i was moved by what
how she sings...she will be there tonight i think
around 7 or 8 oclock...and she is awsome......if you
live in ther area it is deffintely worth the trip into
town....joplins is downtown near uk campus on
limestone 2 doors down from 2 keys tavern...so come
one come all you are guarenteed an awsome show....and
free demo tapes too....here is the poem

the kiss of a muse.....

an angel was singing.
her voice permeating the night air
like a pure stream of energy
soaring out into the universe

as i watched the woman singing,
i was drawn, mesmerized to her by her words.
around her i could imagine a pair of winged goddesses
caressing her body as it moved and wound itself
with each note.

suddenly, my thoughts were filled with awe
and physical lust like a bolt of lightening fills the
night air.
my body quivering with each strum of the guitar,
each growl and moan that escaped from her lips....

then, the realization of what talent
was being displayed before me unleashed
a pure wave of utter respect for this woman
through every part of my being.
because at that moment i knew,
in my soul....
that i had just been kissed by a muse.......

so, now you know how i felt come and see it for
yourself...thanks guys for the bandwidth....

sorry, about the lack of igc...

i have some spare cds...
i'd love to trade for cowboy junkies (except crescent sun, pale moon)
or k's choice stuff (except the great subconscious club)...

if you don't have anything for trade...
- 1 cd = $10
- 2 cds= $15
- all 13 cds= $100
since the postage costs from europe to the us are too high, i'd ove
to trade within europe, if at all possible...

bonnie raitt - nick of time
rem - new adventures in hi-fi
hootie and the blowfish - fairweather johnson
lay quiet awhile - delicate wire
the ellen james society - reluctantly we
gerard mchugh - more than i
band de soleil - redemption dream
mylène farmer - l'autre
franics dunnery - tall blonde helicopter
melissa etheridge - no more secrets (double live cd)
rachel morrison - liberty
deanna carter - did i shave my legs for this???
le grand bleu - soundtrack to the big blue (double cd)

that's it... thx for reading...

peace,
kathrin

i remember reading an interview with the girls (i think it was in acoustic
guitar, but i'm not totally sure) and emily had said that she wrote gotm on the
banjo. but when she was done she realized she had just rewritten ctf instead. i
don't know if that helps.
also i believe a banjo is a lot like an appalachian dulcimer, where there is no
common standard tuning.
good luck ;@)

ps
i'd like to thank lori (and neil for that matter too) for the awesome cds!

yeah, that was acoustic guitar mag.  it had a transcription of "don't
give that girl a gun", as well as some ass-kicking bluegrass stuff, and an
ig gear list.
and this ties into my current gear 'need': a banjitar.  six-string
steel guitar with a banjo head.  it holds notes a little longer than a
banjo, but it's got that signature frumpy sound.  :)

hello y'all,

i was sitting on my couch, lamely fingerpicking "ghost" on the guitar and
watching "party of five" rerun on the lifetime channel tonight, and i heard
some music in the background.  it was an old episode where julia and her
friend libby were discussing julia getting a new boyfriend who turned out to
be libby's recent ex-bf, julian.  i stopped playing my guitar, and heard amy
and emily singing and playing, "least complicated".  yay!

you atlanta lilithians, i'm looking forward to your exciting reviews and
setlists of the indigo girls this weekend.  and, you can tell us about the
listmeet as well. ;)

diane - a bowlful of giggles since her newport folk festival long weekend
was recently approved for vacation from her new job!

last year i solicited advice on getting good seats at the newport folk festival
from the list.  i got some really good, well planned
replies, which i in turn arrogantly ignored.  my seats were not bad, but lets
just say this year, i want to be very close to the stage or i'll
be really sad.  so all you crazy indigo heads let me in on the secrets.

ps.  my advice to all of you is to bring a couple of gallons of water to dump
over your body.  it was really hot last year and they don't
let you swim anymore (very depressing).  the only way to cool down was to stand
in a really long muddy spicket line.

hey!

i am back from dc!  anyway, this *is* igc!  ok, so the reason i was in dc
was for choice usa's gloria steinem leadership institute.  it was a
confrence for pro-choice activists.  anyway, i am so glad i actually got
in and went.  we had to apply, and there were over 500 applications (50
were accepted) and i got in!!  woo hoo!  it makes me feel great about my
work!  plus, the best part was, they paid for everything.  an awesome
hotel in georgetown, meals, plane tickets, etc.  and i got to meet awesome
womyn from all over the country (was anyone on this list there?  i don't
think so, but who knows, we may have not discussed the ig list!).  so it
was awesome.

anyway, i was talking to julie, the exec director of choiceusa, and she
was telling me how awesome the indigo girls have been to their cause.  the
girls play shows for them and record clips for them.  in fact, next
weekend, julie is going to see the girls and have them record a sound clip
for choiceusa.  the indigo girls know choiceusa well, and completely
support it.  now, i am officially affiliated with that organization.  way
cool!  anyway, i am so glad to know that the indigo girls are out there
doing such great work for a cause that i actively support, and for an
organization that i just spent 6 days with!

putting that topic in the paper the sunday edition top
of the page, dead center, above the editorial cartoon
(on the same subject) was my peice...i wnated to share
this with my family of intimate strangers...let me
know what you think....

              breathing freely
this morning, as i stepped out of my front door,
the air was cleaner and just a little bit sweeter. i
breathed a heavy sigh ofrelief and joy because i
recently was given a very precious gift indeed. it was
not diamonds or pearls, silver or gold. i was given
the ability to no longer live in fear of losing either
my way of earning a living or the roof over my head
because of my sexual orientation. although i have
always been out to many of my co-workers at the jobs i
have held, i have often felt that cold chill run down
my spine at the thought of the ''wrong'' person
finding out that i am a lesbian.
now, that cold chill has vanished and has been
replaced with a warm fuzzy feeling at the knowledge
that i can finally answer the question, ''what did
you do this weekend?'' without all of the pronounsand
guarded phrases i used to give before. now, if i
choose to, i can answer specifically and not worry
about being overheard by the wrong person.thank you,
council members, you have made me proud to call myself
not only a member of the gay community in this area
but also a true member of the lexington community.

well...since my original plans for the saratoga get together fell through,
here's an alternate.  we'll just meet at the venue.  there's a small grassy
area near the main gate.  i've created a sort of logo for us to identify
each other.
you can find it here:

<http://www.geocities.com/colosseum/field/3349/indigo.gif>

use it in whatever way you wish: t-shirt, badge, hat, button, sticker,
whatever.

at waterloo village there is a food court.  i thought that would be a good
meeting place for that show.

sorry original plans didn't work.

subject:      questions about boston (nigc)... please help :)
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
content-transfer-encoding: 7bit

hey all you boston-area listees...

i'm going to be travelling up to newport with some friends for the
nff, and we decided to kind of make a bigger vacation out of the trip and
visit boston for a couple days afterward, one of the reasons being that none
of us have ever been there before. so, because nobody's been there, we're
totally clueless as to what to do while we're there.  i mean, i know we want
to see the major historical sights in town, but beyond that, if you were
asked to give a suggestion of something we shouldn't miss, what would it be?
we're only going to be there for two days, so time is limited, but we
definitely want to get the most out of our visit, so a little help would be
greatly appreciated.   a little more background:  our group consists of me
and my girlfriend, liz, (we're mainly interested in historical stuff, good
restaurants, italian or seafood, and just anything else that you would
consider a not-to-miss spot), and then our friend, jeff, will be with us,
too, and he's mainly concerned with historical stuff and good spots to take
pictures, (he's really into photography... not necessarily nature, but spots
with alot of character... could even be a grimy side street that really
catches the eye, or something).

other questions:  are there any parts of the city that we should stay away
from, (like, high-crime areas, or areas that milk tourist's wallets dry, but
aren't really worth it, even when the tour books all say to go there,
etc.)...   and last, but _not_ least, we're looking for a reasonably-priced
place to stay, (like, maybe around $80 a night)... now i know that we're
unlikely to find that kind of a price right in town, but what's the closest
we can get to town without going up into the $100-and-above range?  _and_, if
we do stay on the outskirts, is there a place where we can park our car and
catch the t that's on the outskirts of the city, (and that's not
super-expensive), and ride in?  i'm thinking of when we were in dc, and used
a remote park-and-ride location to catch the subway into the city, (i think
the lot we parked in was only, like $5-$7 for the whole day).

alright, so, any suggestions anybody?   if we could get a few responses
within the next week here, we can start to really plan the details of our
boston side-trip...

thanks!
:)  lisa

i was only forwarding this message from the newsgroup.  if you want the
tickets, please contact the person who sent the original message (the email
address is included in the forward).

i guess i should have made this more explicit when i forwarded it to the
listservs, but i thought it seemed obvious.
