hi,

on may 22, i purchased 2 tickets for the lilith fair on sunday (8/29) =
because i got better seats than i could get on saturday (8/28)  stupid =
me, turns out:
=20
a) the first day of school for texas tech is on 8/30
b) my friends that i was going to take a road trip with decided to fly
c) now i have to find a ride and no one wants to go because there is no =
way we can see sarah and then make it back to lubbock in time for an 8 =
o'clock class (i am willing to skip that one, but no one else is)

so i really don't think i can go unless i get saturday tickets (oh yeah, =
i live in lubbock, which is about an 8 hour drive + lose an hour on the =
way back) if you could swap tickets with me, please let me know and also =

more pity story: last year i had to pay for a lilith fair ticket in =
dallas, but i ended up not being able to go to that one either because i =
had to work my first dj shift (i was scared that if i skipped it, i =
would end up chickening out forever)  :(

enlist crow, osborne, ndegeocello for forthcoming record

sheryl, me'shell and schellenbach, oh my! those guests, plus a smattering
of others, will all appear on the forthcoming, still-untitled indigo girls
album, due out sept. 21. according to manager russell carter, sheryl crow
adds vocals to three new indigo girls songs, "gone again," "cold beer and
remote control," while luscious jackson drummer kate schellenbach and
me'shell ndegeocello contribute to "we are together" and "compromise."

other guests on the record include fellow lilith chick joan osborne on
"trouble" and "peace tonight," with the band organist garth hudson, sinead
o'connor contributor claire kenny and transglobal underground's natacha atlas.

the album, which was produced entirely by john reynolds (sinead o'connor,
adam ant), will hit stores before the duo is slated to begin a u.s. tour
that launches in the southeast.

oh, ellipses abuse.  carol ann!
thalia *is* singing on go.  at the sst shows, i believe she had the verse
that went "i know the kids are still upsetters..."
jean smith's band mecca normal, like thalia's band come, are both on matador
records (matador, incidentally, has some really great folks signed to it--
snag yo la tengo, oberlin alum liz phair, atlantan chan marshall's group cat
power, the adorable pizzicato five, etc etc.  definitely check them out if
your music leanings tend towards something a little harder than, say, joan
baez.  http://www.matador.recs.com )
so.  i don't know why thalia wasn't included in the credits.
maybe whoever was in charge of such things couldn't discern her voice from
amy's.  they do sound kind of similar- deep and strong- to the, ahem,
untrained ear.  but thalia zedek is certainly in a nicotene rasp,
glass-shard-tonsiled class of her own. whoo.

if you're talking about the most recent woodstock, amy and

happened in new york state.

i know ig are good, but they can't be in two states at once!

sorry for those of you who are sick of reading about the atlanta
liliths.  but all this talk has made me get excited about them all over
again.  i just want to share a few of my memories with all of you:

- it was funny how the stage fan was blowing directly at emily's head
(friday).  when she was standing relatively still to sing a verse or
something, her hair was going a little crazy.  i think after a song or
two they changed the aim of the fan so it wasn't aimed right at her
head.  i was wondering if she felt self-conscious about it.

- the song highlights for me were sister (friday) and go.  sister was
just very intense, very full of the passion we all love so much in amy.
and with the stage lights... i remember a dark blue tone just sort of
going along with the theme of night, darkness, intensity.  i love this
song.  and as others have said, go was full of energy and passion, too.
this song does make me want to go out and do something for our world,
not sit still.  watching amy put the passion of the theme of the song
into her guitar playing just added to the intensity.

- i think what i often remember well is the way amy and emily smile
while they are up there.  they always seem to be having a good time,
always seem to be surprised by the cheering fans, appreciative of all
of our yells.  you'd think that by now they are used to it, but i guess
maybe you never get used to something like that.  i love to watch
emily's face when everyone (!) sings closer to fine.  she always seems
to amazed and that is a nice thing to see.  sitting on the lawn
saturday i was very appreciative of the video screen.  i really could
see their smiles and their expressions!

- one last thing, for whoever said that her girlfriend laughed at the
way amy was waving good-bye.  i got my camera in on friday night (don't
get excited anyone... i was close, but not that close) and i have a
picture from after the finale.  amy is walking off stage and she is
doing that sort of cup-the-hand and move your fingers up and down wave
thing.  when i saw the picture i just laughed cause of what you said.

it seems like lilith was a great experience for everyone there.  i hope
everyone enjoys it as much as those of us who have already been.  and
now we will all wait for the fall tour schedule...

take care,
lisa

hey all,
i have some new information regarding the hte fundraiser.  this summer =
i'm
working at a day camp in los angeles.  the main focus is on diversity,
multiculturalism, and environmentalism.  each week the kids learn about =
the
music, dance, art and drama of a different culture or country, =
culminating
in a live performance by the campers friday afternoons.  last weeks =
focus
was native america.  we talked about honor the earth and the kids =
decided to
make dream catchers as their contribution to the cause.  (camp planet =
janet
was kind enough to donate the art supplies.)

greta and kristen (of hte) came up with the excellent idea of offering =
the
dream catchers to the list in an exchange for a donation to hte.

for a minimum donation of $5 (+sh) you will receive one of the dream
catchers made by the campers.

for a minimum donation of $15 (+sh) you will receive a dream catcher and =
a
'97 hte indigo girls tour poster.  these posters are 100% pure hemp =
fiber
and of very limited edition.  (and i've seen 'em and they rock.)  there =
are
only a limited number of these posters available and they will be given =
out
on a first come first serve basis.

remember, these are only the minimum donations required.  the folks at =

the forces of the wind are against her or helping her (cooling her off etc)
its just a goofy cute little thing.

- it was funny how the stage fan was blowing directly at emily's head
(friday).  when she was standing relatively still to sing a verse or
something, her hair was going a little crazy.  i think after a song or
two they changed the aim of the fan so it wasn't aimed right at her
head.  i was wondering if she felt self-conscious about it.

ok, i'm going to assume you have your cassette recorder all hooked up to the
soundcard and playing through your 'puter. i'm gonna also assume you have a
pc.

all you need to do is get yourself a demo copy of cool edit pro
http://www.syntrillium.com/
(if you want an uncrippled copy i may be able to provide a link)
and it's as easy as setting the record levels and clicking on 'record'
(a .wav file is basically a cd audio file, 41000hz 16-bit)

it's generally considered to be the best software for noise reduction (not
the dolby kind), and i have some basic instructions for that too...

any questions, here i am :o)

actually, i taped it, and the counter on my vcr when i
stopped it read a mere 1 min and 20 sec, which is
about right when you figure they show 20 artists plus
80 commercials in one hour.  ( hey hey, got to love
that snip of galileo from hard rock live with emily in
her pumpkin outfit!)

i've only been watching this countdown off and on
(read: #80-#77 and #50-#48), and was wondering if they
talk with ig about any of the other musicians?

also, on tuesday they talked with amy and emily at the
end of the 2 pm video hour.  unfortunately i didn't
have the tape set up, as has been my luck lately, i
was actually watching vh1 at the time and turned it
when they showed the sarah m. video for the hundredth
time that day and missed the little tease just before
they head into commercial (boogerbreath!).  i ran into
the living room to set up the tape when i realized
they were on and in the process missed even more of
the mini-interview, and i was terribly excited, but i
think they were talking to them about getting started
and making it in the music business and the
difficulties they encountered as women.  i think.
something along those lines.

(not exactly ig content)

for those of you who subscribe to the food network channel, i half-caught a
mention of tomorrow's (friday 7/30 7pm) "cooking live primetime" guests -
the host, sara moulton, said something like they'll be "with the divas of
lilith fair".  now since i've never seen her do a show outside of the studio
and she's in new york, i'm guessing they might just have some of the
caterers from lilith fair.  but who knows, maybe it'll be a show all about
what amy and emily like to eat!  ;-)

i've (anally) written down the 100-list, but the top 20 is on

hey peeps,

how is everyone? :) sorry to go on about vh1 again... but i wanted to say
that i really liked the quote about " brings you back to the whole reason you
got into it in the
first place." (thanks diane for transcribing it ;)... that fits ig so well.
:)  i also was curious-- how exactly did they choose the top 100? they let
celebrities do it? i kinda missed that, if someone wouldn't mind explaning ;)
it's great to see so many women-- i did get kinda finicky (for lack of a
better word) when i saw melissa etheridge (whom i also like) got 49... as
opposed to ig.  ig has changed my life more than any other artist...err.. but
i guess that's why i'm on this list, eh? ;)  thanks for listening, guys. :)

oh, and by the way, sorry - i wanted to randomly throw this out.... for
the folks who were at lilith in atlanta on saturday... what did you think of
soul miner's daughter, one of the local bands who played? they're from the
atlanta/athens area, and a lot of ig lovers really like them... i'm quickly
becoming a huge fan. just curious about everyone's opinion.. thanks for
sharing. ;)

have a great friday-- hooray weekend! :)

i've been randomly watching parts of the vh 1 special and am baffled at how
some people came out on top over other people...like for instance sade...how
in the world did she ever come out on top of sarah mclachlan (to name one
person who has done a lot for women's music during the past several years)....
and i keep seeing celine dion's stupid face in the little beginning part but
haven't seen where she's at yet...so help me if she is in the top 40 percent,
i will just scream!

who made up the stupid list anyway? it's so random....and makes zero sense...

there is my 2 cents...

top 100 lists are like opinions.....everyone has one, and they all
stink.......

remember, television is all about image......and record and video
sales.......and vh-1's target audience tends to be a somewhat older
demographic........dusty springfield at #24.......ig at #79.......doesn't
compute at all.......

nodding in agreement......

the way it is, anyone more recent will not go up too high....its suprising
that there are even people from the 80's in the top 10, though i guess the
people who are there are good.
i think i heard that they sent out the ballots to powerful women- not just
music, i suppose.  big women in business and politics as well- thats my
guess.
i don't think its that bad- theres *lots* of women out there performing.
they made it pretty far down in my opinion.  i don't think sheryl crow
should be as low as she is, but oh well.....

i've not heard of this one yet.  is it new?!  and if it is, does that
mean that she's gearing up the publicity machines for *gasp* a new album?

hooray!  this will hearken me back to the days of "indigo who?"  :)
i think melissa and bruce springsteen need to do an album of duets from
each other's catalogues - imagine melissa rocking out on "promised land"
or clarence clemmons tearing it up on "all american girl..."
that's an all time musical fantasy of mine...

raise awareness - feel good about yourself - win prizes!

hi everyone,

i hope that lots of us will become involved with the honor the earth fundraiser currently taking place.  the money we raise will go toward sending amy and emily on a month long tour in 2000.

as you know, this is more than just a fundraiser - it's a contest - with prizes!

- 15 second place winners: advanced tour itinerary for honor 2000 (including not yet publicized venues and dates!), an official honor the earth 100% hemp tour poster autographed by amy and emily

- 3 first place winners: two golden circle tickets to the ig show of your choice for the 1999 fall tour, and advanced tour itinerary, and an autographed poster

- 1 grand prize: advanced tour itinerary, an autographed poster, a $250 gift certificate to the freemont hemp company (accessible over the web), an autographed honor the earth press packet, two golden circle tickets to the ig show of your choice (fall 1999), a copy of the new cd with a personal thank you note written by amy and emily directly to you!

feel free to bounce fundraising ideas off greta or me.  you don't have to shake a donation can up and down your street.  does your company recycle?  maybe you can take this month's cans and cash them in for hte.  are there any festivals in your area?  see if you can set up a table.

the address to send donations is:

honor the earth fundraiser
c/o greta gohn & kristen mcelveen
621 house wren circle
palm harbor, fl 34683

please make checks payable to honor the earth/the tides center

if you're uncomfortable with fundraising, but still want to help out, then write your senator.  e-mail me or greta (honorerth@aol.com) or go to the web site - www.honorearth.com for more information!

thanks and good luck,
jackie

hello kind friends!

i know there are a lot of book fiends (meant in a good way!) out there
in indigo land, and i'm hoping for a little help from them.  not so long
ago there was a book written by a dr.  i do believe it was a book
describing the societal and familial structure in which the females of
our society are raised.  for some reason i have always thought the name
of that book was "raising ophelia", however i cannot locate anything
under that title.
has anyone heard of it?  please email me privately if you have any
information that might help me locate this book.

thanks so much for your time,

being the final lilith, attending is an impossibility.  but by reading the

do janis joplin or melanie show anywhere on that list?

speaking of melanie, is there anyone out here who likes her? i am not
talking about her "brand new key" era.... i am talking about all of her
other stuff. her energy and love of music really remind me of the indigo
girls, even though she predates them by decades. she was also very
active in political movements during her era (late 60's to 70's), is in
music because she loves it, is awesome live (though the last time i saw
her was in, like, 1986) and the depth of her voice and her passion can
be overwhelming.
sound like anyone we know??

just curious.

subject:      nigc: my cd trading idea :-)
mime-version: 1.0

hey everyone!  while trying to decide which of my cds to try to sell back to
the store, and realizing that the store won't want some of them because they
are just too obscure, i had an idea!  most of us have cds that we never
listen to, cds that might be of interest to some people on this list. so,
i'll post a list of cds i don't want anymore, and if anyone is interested in
them, you can send me a list of the cds you don't want, and we can work out a
trade. that way, we can get rid of our cds and try out new music in the
process.

subject:      suffragette lourdes perez (nigc)...
mime-version: 1.0

i just wanted to pass along this info regarding lourdes perez,  the amazing
puertorriquena singer/songwriter who many of you remember blew away audiences
with her voice and her music at last year's suffragette sessions tour.  info has
been dated and hard to find, but she's now got a new up-to-date site with
current tour dates, links, personal notes from lourdes, lyric translations and
news about ongoing projects.  the site is here:

http://www.angelfire.com/tx/lourdesperez/index.html

and there's also a link on that page to gemm.com where you can purchase her 2
releases...vestigos (from which her suff songs were taken) and the earlier
recuerdate por mi, as well as her newest release (agua bendita) which they'll
begin to record this fall.

for those of you who aren't familiar with lourdes' music, this is a brief
summary from curve magazine: "perez transcends language...her music will caress
you, hold you, heal you, surround you--you might even find tears streaming down
your face at the clear calm strength of her voice...her imagery is startlingly
beautiful..."  check her out.  and for those of you who were amazed by her at
sst, tell people.  share her music.  share the links.  go see her live.  support
brilliant talent.  don't run with scissors.  just say no to rainbow sprinkles.
don't sleep.  just tour.  :d  chau...m
