murder victims' families to speak out against the death penalty

nashville, tenn., march 4 /prnewswire/ -- the tennessee coalition to abolish
state killing (tcask) will bring the journey of hope ... from violence to
healing to tennessee for two weeks in april (11-25). the journey is led by
murder victims' family members who will share their stories about the process
of healing through reconciliation. calling for alternatives to the death
penalty, they are joined by death row survivors, families of death row
prisoners and friends and activists from around the world.

the 1999 journey will travel through the state of tennessee, making stops in
nashville, knoxville, chattanooga and memphis.  journey participants will give
presentations to high schools, colleges, church groups and the media
throughout the state.  together, these presentations will offer a more
complete picture of the cycle of violence and the way in which the death
penalty prevents healing, prolongs suffering and creates more victims.  the
message presented throughout the journey will be one of forgiveness and non-
violence, offering a powerful alternative to the voices of vengeance that are
so often heard from mainstream victims' rights organizations.

some of the speakers confirmed for the journey are suezann bosler, who was
recently featured on 48 hours, marietta jaeger, bill pelke, sister helen
prejean, author of dead man walking, and sam reese sheppard. every year the
journey conducts an intensive two-week tour of a different state. so far,
these annual tours have taken place in indiana, georgia, virginia, california
and most recently in texas.

a concert benefiting the 1999 journey will kick of the two-week event on april
12th at the historic ryman auditorium in nashville. the concert will feature
journey board member steve earle, jackson browne, emmylou harris, the indigo
girls and sister helen prejean. tickets go on sale friday, march 5th and are
available through ticketmaster (615-255-9600).

ticket prices are $18.50 and $22.50 plus ticketmaster service charge. golden
circle tickets are available by calling 1-877-327-8833, these tickets will
include a pass to a reception after the show with the artists and sister helen
prejean.

the journey of hope anti-death penalty show go on sale tomorrow morning
at 10:00 a.m. cst.  if you don't live near a ticketmonster outlet, you
can call (615) 259-9600.  someone posted ticket price info last night,
but i think the tix are something like $18 and $25 or thereabouts.
also, special gold circle tickets will be available for $100  these will
enable a person to chat with the artists backstage either before or
after the show.  i'm not real clear on that, so you might want to check
with t-master.
