[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.  i don't know if any of you
are taking part in this so here it is just in case...]

hey...

sorry to bother y'all... i'm hoping to announce the tree details for this
project in the next day or two, what i need to know is if any of the tree
volunteers have still to get their discs to me (if you haven't had an email
saying they're being sent back to you, they're not here!)

and if you were waiting for an email from me for whatever reason (and this
goes for everyone) i'm really bad at remembering, so y'all might have to
remind me lots, and that i don't mind...

'preciate your help.

i just wanted to let you know that as i was driving in glendale today
(california), i rolled down the windows and pumped up the volume to
hear vonda shepard and emily saliers sing, "baby, don't you break my
heart slow" (as opposed to fast, the djay said, into shreds).  it was
on the pop/rock station, 102.7 kiis fm, and i have never heard the
indigo girls on *that* station.

don't forget, that song will play in tonight's episode of ally mcbeal
on the fox network.  check your local listings.

diane :)

hkf's,

to add to lisa's review - here's mine... (long!)
8-)
and yes, as you already know, ig was there to support the "earth day benefit
- - rock down to earth" and they were indeed very special guests that
evening...

(first a little mood...)

a beautiful and hot saturday led to some burnt skin and some tired legs
playing under that big ball of orange all day...  but the variety playhouse
is a sweet little ol theater that makes for such an intimate setting to hear
some great tunes...  got a cold one and headed up to the balcony and saw a
dreadful sign "balcony closed" - excuisme?  closed?  saw cry, cry, cry from
the balcony and thought it was a great overview spot - but since the
attendance was unfortunately (& fortunately) very light, 2nd row in front of
amy sounded just a tiny-bit better!

so as i walk in (a little late too), i'm not even sure ig is going to be
there - i walk right up to the soundboard guy and ask what band is on next -
and he says "indigo girls in 24 minutes".  so since it's inappropriate to
hug strangers (not intimate strangers mind you) i kept my composure and
didn't tackle him & asked to see the setlist sitting right in front of him.
so even before the show started i knew the setlist!!!  it didn't really ruin
the surprise b/c there were 2 brand new emily songs - so nothing was going
to dampen my spirits when i was going to be the first audience to hear her
long-awaited new songs...

anyway - setlist (got it from that soundboard guy - even though listee
heather got her's from sulli, but i'll take mine when i can get em!):

galileo
gone again
andy
sister
cold beer
(amy solo song-?)
go

galileo - great way to get things going - amy's hair is getting longer, on
it's way to rop length (oh no, what did i do?!) - but they both looked like
angels standing there under that light...  emily, i think, said in the
beginning - we haven't played in a while so we might be a bit rusty...
rusty?  if that night was rusty for them, then the next tour is going to be
smokin'!!!!  overall, they were incredible - especially the new emily
songs...  ooppss...  i digress...  back to the songs...

gone again...  i'll be at the rainbow room... la la laaa, la da da daaa.
great song - not one of my faves of amy but still real good.  and i love the
junky girl...  part - gave a junky girl a smile - ... and she swindled my
last 20, for a kiss and some poetry...  ahhh... amy....

andy.  emily said: - this is a sad song - it's about a girl who likes (maybe
she said loves) a man, but he likes another girl.  also amy said "i'm going
to be the backup band for this song" - so apparently this is very, very new.
i just have to say one thing "emily's back!!!!!!"  great song (it's so good
i'm shouting right now)...  not to take anything away from sots, but andy
gives me flashbacks to my favorite two albums (rop & so) - which as y'all
know had some amazing emily songs - i thought sots lacked a little bit on
the emily side, so i am very excited to hear all her songs...
"annn-dyyyyyyy"... ahhh... emily...

sister - great song - has that powerful amy energy that gets me up in the
morning...  last heard it at the roxy, i believe, and this was a little bit
more mellow than that version - but was still great to hear...  eyes closed
and everything - i think emily has added a little bit more to the backing
vocals - but it was pretty sweet...

cold beer and remote control
(setlist reads cold beer, but i think that's just an abbreviation - like say
map is often written on setlists)  -  real good song (hey, any new emily
song is wonderful to hear!) - andy is real mellow, and this song is more of
clap your hands and sing along type of a song...  "... i lost my mind...
yayaya... time after time..."  but it's a fun song and the crowd was really
enjoying it...

(amy solo song - ?)
can't remember a repeating line at all - it was a quick fun song she played
on her baby-guitar (ok, mandolin).  lots of lyrics and pretty much she sang
all the lyrics with no breaks and the song was over - maybe a 2 minute or so
song.  emily stepped back and didn't play/sing at all, so maybe it's just
something she wanted to throw in there (wasn't on the setlist)...

go...  "raise your hands, raise your hands, high!!!!!!!"  wow!!!!  one of my
favorites of amy's new stuff and even after hearing it a bunch of times -
still doesn't disappoint at all!!!!!  great note to end the short show on -
really got the blood flowin' and the smiles a smilin'....  "don't assume
anything... just go, go, go..."

last ig-note - amy introduced ph-balance who closed the show... interesting
combination of a band...  female singer - great voice - but the other
vocalists adds a rap - and then he's rappin' and she's singing backup...
took a little while to get used to the groove of the band - but with some
kickin' bass lines - the band had a pretty decent little funk-groove thing
going that was pretty phat (to go along with their website lingo)...  during
their set the one & only ms. ray was groovin' to the beat a few feet from
me...  needless to say my neck is sore from turning around so many times...
but it was fun to see amy enjoying herself to the young band on her label...

wow... real long...
ok - that's about it...  can't wait for news of a tour sometime soon - but
we'll see...  i think they're ready!!!!!
