hey kind friends, intimate strangers, intimate friends (mmmm...), kind
strangers, and whatever else we're supposed to call each other 'round
here...

gonna post once or twice more the basics of our list indigo girls tribute
album in the hope of drumming up a few more interested folks. you know you
want to...

indicated - the next generation is here. join in, or be madder than a boiled
owl.

the basic rules:

- - use whatever recording equipment you have available.
- - record your version of an indigo girls song or two.
- - no matter what the sound quality's like, it's performance that counts.
- - the most original interpretaion, the better (believe me).
- - it's got to be an amy or an emily original.
- - can't play an instrument? fake it (like i do), get together with someone
who can or maybe even do a dramatic lyric reading or a vocals only version

just have fun with it.

the deadline has already been extended to an undetermined date. so just get
cracking and drop me a line telling me what you're doing, and i'll give you
the address to send your submissions to as soon as i get back from my road
trip...

cheers

hkf's,

there's a new date on the tm site, although it's not on the official site
yet, that is on my site now.  i also updated the amherst info, although i'm
not 100 percent on that.  i found that local tm number thru the mullins
center web site which i found thru the umass-amherst site:
http://www.umass.edu/events/calendar2.htm

and here's the new info for syracuse:
10/07/99  syracuse, ny  landmark theater
onsale: 9/10 - 12:00pm (315)472-0700 (local tm)

so any verification of the amherst info, plus any onsale info for the athens
show, please pass that on to the list.  thanks.

ps: i'm a drummer, where do i send my application in?

i know that i have always offered only amy backgrounds in the past with the
exception of the emily one i made for our dear summer, i have been asked to
make one of both girls together and brothers and sisters i have done it. you
know. while i was making it, i realized something that has been echoed here
on the list a lot lately.  the girls really do bring out the best in each
other and in all of us as well. the pics that i have put together i hope
show this to it's best extent. so, with out further ado, if you want a copy
email me and i will send it out to you.   i hope that you will see what i am
trying say here. the girls are wonderful individuals, but it is their
harmonies and togetherness that have brought all of us, intimate strangers
together.

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]

hi all,

well, it's official.  the front page of the red & black (uga"s student
paper) had an article with ticket and venue information for ig.  the
article says that the show will be at stegeman coliseum (ugh!) on oct. 22
at 8 p.m.  there are 3 price ranges for student tix which are $18, $15,
and $12.  tix go onsale at the cashier's window in the tate student
center on sept. 18th at 9 a.m.

there is also a review of cons.  they gave it a "b".  there really isn't
anything indepth said in the review.  just that the new record is
eclectic and that joan osburne and sheryl crow appear on the record.
there is also an editorial slamming the uga for choosing ig for
homecoming since (in the writer's opinion) they don't fairly represent
the entire student body.  the writere claims that ig appears to primarily
appeal to white females.  although, we have been in the news a good bit
since the majority of our campus is white female.  if anyone cares on
checking out this editorial and writing the person a note with her or his
opinion you cna go to www.redandblack.com.  respond to the editorial
board.

now you know as much as i do concerning ig's upcoming appearance.

smiles,
allison

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo

greetings listees! greta and i just wanted to post one more time, our
gratitude to those of you that have made this fundraiser a reality and been
so tremendously supportive during these past few months. however, we've also
been receiving numerous negative emails about the outcome of this honor the
earth fundraiser, and i just wanted to clear things up a bit. earlier this
year, we came up with an idea to do a fundraiser for honor the earth through
this list as a reward to you, the fans, for all of your support in past
years. we assumed that we would be rewarding those of you who have
selflessly put yourselves out there to educate others about our cause, and
being indigo girls fans, why not reward you with indigo girls merchandise?
we tried to make it clear that this was to raise funds for our organization,
and hoped that those of you who did donate, donated for the good of our
cause, and not purely for the reward. we are terribly sorry to those of you
who are upset that you are not getting a personal thank you from emily and
amy. we hope many of you who are frustrated subscribe to our newsletter,
visit our website, or read our press to know that we, honor the earth, have
and will thank you personally and publicly for your generosity. we worked
with the girls and their management on this fundraiser, and they gave the
prizes to us as their reward to you, the list. most of you have been more
than kind, tabling with our literature at festivals, making dreamcatchers
with your camp kids to sell, and auctioning photos. i have to say this has
been the most creative fundraiser i've seen, and we can't thank you folks
enough. we are just frustrated by the many of you whom seem very angry that
you are not receiving a personal gift from the girls, or who asked us in so
many words to give you a high-level prize anyway for your $5 donation when
there are others out there who really worked for their reward. once again,
thank you so much to those of you who have supported us in our efforts to
educate our cause. we at honor the earth thank you for your support and
generosity.

hi all,

i have gotten a few emails concerning ticket info for uga.  all i know is
that uga student tickets go on sale for those prices at that time on that
date.  uga's id system is automated with a bar code and a hand print
identifier now.  so, if you were a uga student in the past t won't do you
any good to camp out on the 18th because they are checking to see if you
have paid your fees.  they usually only sell to students and than sell
other tickets for the gen pub at another date.  i know that is how they
do it for classical concerts.  it's been awhile since i have been to a
"rock" show at uga.  i will say that there is talk of having students
fill out a preorder form and pay a deposit.  they than pay the remaining
balance and will pick up their tix on another date.  i will also mention
that there has been alot of controversy over ig playing.  the red and
black slammed uga again today for not thinking of the diversity of the
student population when they booked ig.  they also said that ig are
playing for $50,000.  that's the smallest amount in many years.  they are
tryting to book an opening act that will appear to another facet of the
student body.

as soon as there is additional info, i will post it.  i am thinking that
it will difficult for non students to buy tickets to this event.  i will
ask at the tate center tomorrow what the rules are regarding ticket sales.

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]

hi!  i'm not a regular poster...more of an avid reader of all of your
thoughts and dreams, but wanted to share my wonderful experience last
friday at the girl's show in seattle (bumbershoot--that's with a "b"!).
i must say hello again to ryan who i met in the stadium prior to the show.
the sound check experience was surreal at best!! never had i experienced
seeing the girls and their band playing snippets of songs and talking to
each other, making sure everything was perfect for the show! i was honored
to be there and must admit, i felt like a sponge trying to soak it all in!!
i'm sure i sat next to or said hi to some of you on the blue tarp! hello
to shelley as well.
the opening act, as was reviewed by another attendee, was really great!
kind of a funk, folk, rhythm band.  enjoyed them.
the girls, of course, were incredible! i have purposefully avoided hearing
the new songs so that i could hear them at the concert and then be able to
hear the new cd with a fresh ear!  i loved every one!! wow!  the set was
mixed with several golden oldies too, which was fun!  amy took time out
near the start of the encore to read an announcement by green peace about
the rapid destruction of a particular rain forest. i can't remember where
she said it was, but the point being, that the company home depot has made
a promise to "eventually" faze out their purchase/use of wood taken from
this/these forests.  the faze out process won't happen though, for a few
years and amy wanted us to encourage home depot to speed up the process.
she said we should talk to employees in the stores about the issue, and try
to create awareness of the situation.
ok, fashion report.  no tank top.  :)  emily had on a black shirt and black
pants. amy wore a reddish print shirt and grey jeans.
both seemed really happy to be there.  emily, once again, couldn't believe
how big the stadium seemed.  is that good or bad??!  lots of smiles and
dancing/clapping by amy!  for the web broadcast, there were plenty of
cameras and some guy in black glasses wandering around the audience
interviewing people!  hopefully, the demand will be heard so that the web
broadcast will finally be shown! ya!
the following was in today's newspaper in tacoma, wa:
"we're rocking out more than we used to," saliers said by phone before the
seattle show.  they had talked about getting back to their stripped-down,
just-the-two-of-them roots before making the new record and decided to
wait.  "the next record will be really acoustic," saliers said.

cool! hope this wasn't too long!  23 days and counting...!
stacy.

subject: [ig-news] ig in z magazine

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]

i've been 'puterless for a couple weeks.  cut off. denied information of the
indigo kind.  so.  this may not be news.  i just got my september issue of z
magazine in the mail.  (stop me if this sounds familiar)  there is a
fantastically wonderful article on the evolution of women's music, replete
with igc.  splendid.

from the ig-relevant parts, i gladly excerpt:
". . .ladyslipper, which had fought for years to have separate bins in
record stores for the genre of "women's music" was feeling the innovation
backfire.  women's music felt like a ghetto and even a band as pro-feminist
as the indigo girls chose not to be distributed by ladyslipper."

". . .for some women, having a new generation of woman-centered music, with
their own sound and culture, is critical.  amy ray started her own label,
daemon records, in 1989 [me: though i believe it was actually 1990] soon
after the indigo girls were signed to epic, and uses her major label career
to bankroll the independent community to which she is much more committed.
daemon is a co-op, which means that the artists are obligated to give 15
hours of work for each record they do.  by 1992, ray, who had resisted what
she experienced as possessive and separatist women's music scene, recognized
many of her values being confirmed by riot grrrl--from finding a co-op
printing company to print your catalog up or using a credit union instead of
a bank.  'i suddenly felt camaraderie, like 'oh there's people out there who
want to do these same things',' says ray.  'and riot grrrl influenced me in
terms of hiring women employees--with daemon and indigo girls, too.  instead
of saying 'oh, here's a guitar tech, and it's a man' we find some women who
