i have two tickets for the davidson college show for sale.   the total for
both tickets is $53.00.  this is a general admission show.  the show is

hey kind friends and intimate strangers,

i didn't catch the world cafe broadcast during the day because of work
yesterday, so i set my alarm clock to go off at 1 a.m. (the radio alarm, not
the buzzing sound), and i woke up toward the end of "peace tonight". hearing
amy and emily's voices singing woke up my subconscious!

that happened to me one other time when i requested john mellencamp's "jack
and diane" on a san francisco radio station (~103 or 101 on the fm dial) in
december 1993.

then, today, while i was driving out of the parking garage, these two
deejays were talking about the songs just played on wxpn--the last two being
duets/collaborations, and then, the transcription went something like this:

woman: "speaking of collaborations, the indigo girls have a new album coming
out soon. what--they have been playing together since high school? you know
more about them than i do..."

man: "yes they have. it is amazing to me that amy ray and emily saliers
have stayed together for all these years." he went on to talk about their
songwriting ability, and how they have a great relationship with each other.

w: "yes, and usually, with other bands, if they have two strong
personalities, the band usually doesn't last. but the indigo girls--both
have their distinct personalities, and you can really hear it in their
songs...and immediately recognize their different styles--that's an amy
song, that's an emily song..." [for me, it was an "awwww" moment.] "and they
have worked so well together for so long."

w: "the name of their new album is "come on now social", whatever that
means", [i had to chuckle on that one because we all know where that is from
(for the newbies, a song that amy wrote that is not on the album--"the boys
just laugh")] "and this is another song from their cd by emily called 'soon
be to nothing'.

then, i was absolutely thrilled to hear this song, very polished and
well-produced (definitely studiowork a la rop). especially since i had
first heard it on the 9:30 club boot (8/98) when the song wasn't finished
yet. the shout of "we appreciate it anyway!!" still echoes in my mind.
hmmm, i beamed all the way home.

the background vocals are just gorgeous, whoever's voices were chiming in
with amy's. i am still wondering what that song means.

can't wait until the lyrics analysis begins next week,

hkf's,

two more days!!!  just a reminder that there will be a pre-show gathering
friday at the courtyard cafe, 867 bell rd. in antioch, starting at 4:00 p.m.
cdt til around 6:30 p.m.  (show starts at 7:30)  if you're in the
neighborhood, please stop by!  we are going to try to snag some tables out on
the patio on the left side of the restaurant, so look for us there first.
the courtyard cafe serves pizza, italian, seafood, etc.

at the show, i will be sitting in section 101, row h, seats 8 and 9, so if
you're around there, come say "hi!" i will probably have on khaki shorts, a
black daemon records shirt and an overshirt (gonna be chilly friday night).

after the show - and of course, i will need time to get home <g> - i am
hosting a little gathering at my apartment to jam, chat, eat, etc. if anyone
has a mandolin or banjo, that would be cool! :o) if anyone is interested in
coming to this gathering, e-mail me and i will give you directions and a map,
or come find me at the show.

i-24 exit 59 - bell road - left at light
follow bell rd. approx 3 traffic lights and turn left at the light next to
o'charley's.
courtyard cafe is in the shopping center to your right - there is a just for
feet next door, and a tgi friday's nearby.

i-24 exit 62 - old hickory blvd. - turn left (or right, if coming from

road (traffic light) and turn right and enter famc from the front.
