[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]
well, after a long (8 hour) drive home and very little sleep the whole trip
coz i was on this total "i'm seeing the girls up close and oh my god this
will be great" high i am back in tampa typing away with my eyes half open,
so please ignore and forgive all typos.
first of all clothing:
emily-- same outfit as nashville and she still looked cute
amy -- black leather pants (yummy) and a red diamond patterned shirt with
blue suede platform boots (liked the shoes)
stereo popsicle (opening act) was awesome once again
set list (taken from the stage):
go
trouble
3 hits
love will come to you
gone again
cold beer & remote control
shed your skin
get out the map
sister
peace tonight
shame on you
.....now this is interesting.... the set list says "andy" but they played
ghost (anyone know something here?)
oh, ozilene
the wood song (yea!!!)
compromise (loved this one too)
power of two
galileo
fay tucker
midnight train to georgia w/ stereo popsicle (excellent!)
closer to fine
i loved all the songs. they were very personal and poignant for me. i got
to meet stereo popsicle, and the lead singer (trina) gave me a hug coz i
just liked her so damn much. they signed my cd and i got to touch the ig
bus but the girls were tired after the show so they requested that everyone
leave coz they didn't "want to deal with the hassle of waving off
autographs" so i left, but other people stayed (duh why?? hello, they were
tired, leave them alone). but i did get to meet two nice girls from nc who
were originally from florida and we hung out and went back stage at about
4:00 and saw where we were sitting and listened to the sound check. the
security was really lax until about 6:30, so no one questioned us. we got
to talk to the lighting guy and he was really nice. i didn't want to push
my luck and was content with sitting in one of the boxes for the sound check
(which was all i really wanted anyway).
amy messed up one of the chords on the wood song, but my tone deaf self
never heard it, but she was disappointed so i hollered out "i love you
anyway" and emily laughed. after peace tonight emily talked about how one
of her friends though she was singing "lets make babies tonight" and the
crowd erupted in laughter and then she proceeded to say how amy thought she
was singing "two black dogs and a white woman running through the field".
it was cute. towards the end of the concert, when they played galileo, most
of us in the orchestra pit stood up by the stage (no stage rushing yea!) and
danced and sang along. the crowd wasn't nearly as animated as nashville
was, but i still had a great time coz they played all the songs i love.
that's all for now .... must get some sleep.
had a great time meeting everyone in nashville. this is one mini-vacation
that will remain forever treasured in my memory. love you all. oh yeah, i
didn't hear any "action figures" or "judge wapner" either ;)

fyi, everyone (fm the atlanta journal-constitution)....
peach buzz: indigos' latest is family affair
richard l. eldredge - staff
monday, september 27, 1999
the indigo girls' first album in three years, "come on now social" (due out
tuesday), boasts guest appearances by pals sheryl crow, joan osborne,
me'shell ndegeocello and ozilline walker.
who?
"my grandmother is a wonderful storyteller, and over the years i've made
tapes of her talking," amy ray (above left) told us. "this one particular
story fit the song ('ozilline') perfectly. i've already played it for her
and she loves it."
even as "social" pushes the envelope creatively, exploring beat box
rhythms, reggae, punk, folk and appalachian musical genres, ray and emily
saliers (above right) kept the recording process decidedly down home. the
duo even invited co-producer and musicians from the english band ghostland
to atlanta to record parts of the album. "they all fell in love with
atlanta," ray says. "especially the food and the people. we ordered from a
different place every day. they loved thai food here and even barbecue."
before saturday night's show in greenville, s.c., saliers told buzz that
she's thrilled with the new live act, utilizing some of the musicians from
the album. "there's a great spirit on stage, and it gives us more space
sonically to work in."
saliers is responsible for the album's radio-ready, r&b-tinged first
single, "peace tonight." she laughs when it's suggested that she's
channeling al green on the track: "i know! it's just the direction that
things went."
ray, meanwhile, plugs in her electric guitar and cranks up the volume on
the album's raucous opening track, "go." "i enjoy really loud rock stuff,"
ray says. "it felt great to be able to go in and express that." concurs
saliers: "amy's so great at that, and her voice is perfect for it. plus,
it's fun for me to be able to hop in on that stuff with her live."
as the indigo girls gig around the south and the northeast in coming weeks,
local fans will have to wait a bit longer to check out the act live.
tentative plans call for some local dates at the tabernacle before christmas.

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo

hi everybody:
i just wanted to let everyone in the boston area show know that the radio
station wbmx mix 98.5 is having a contest where if you are the 18th
caller when you hear an ig song, you can win passes to see a&e
in an exclusive performance at the mix 98.5 studio (the mix club) on
october 6 (the same as the concert at tsongas arena in lowell). but
you also get tickets to the mix fest which is 10/10 at foxboro stadium
which includes melissa ethridge (oh my god), blondie and sugar ray
among many others. i am sending this urgent mail because i'm not
sure how long they are running this but they are doing it today, so
i hope this gets posted.
i can't tell you how excited i am about this, because after a whole
of trying, i finally got through and won. i am keeping my fingers
crossed and saying a little prayer for all of you true boston-based fans
on this list. the best of luck.
peace and happiness
cathy

if the be already posted, i sorry. but i liked it, so here it is...the cons
review from the cdnow site.
i especially like the first line. very nice.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
the indigo girls have filled dormitory hallways, sold out sheds, and souls
for 14 years. now they return with their seventh lp of potent rock-lore. amy
ray and emily saliers have what simon and garfunkel had, that ethereal
harmony connection that must be divine.
but unlike on any of their previous albums, the songs on come on now social
find banjos and soft-stringed acoustics on the back burner, making room this
time for snares, distortion, and more "indie-tude" than ever.
"gone again" and "ozilline" are festive, frolicking bluegrass tunes that
smile and knee slap. but the lead track, "go," gets gone with plunging kick
drums and driving, angular guitar riffs. "compromise" is packed with
punching-bag bass lines and stone-dry inflections from ray. even on saliers'
snuggly call to action, "peace tonight," there is a horn section.
be it sinead oconnor's enlisted band bringing about this feisty approach, or
just the end of an era, come on now social finds the indigo girls with their
same heartache and protest, just a lot more voltage.

sorry if this has been posted already if it hasnt, enjoy...
indigo girl amy ray ponders solo album
sep 27, 1999, 10:10 am pt
the indigo girls go full-on punk on "compromise," one of the amy ray-penned
tracks from the duo's latest and most eclectic album to date, come on now
social (sept. 28, epic records). as it turns out, the song is one of many
that ray has written in the punk vein -- most of which could end up on an amy
ray solo album sometime in the future.
"i have a lot of songs like that and i just picked one to go on the record,"
says ray. "that's probably as much as i would do with indigo girls, if i were
to do more, it'd be on my own."
there is nothing official at press time, but ray is currently in the planning
stages of getting her first solo effort off the ground. "i'm trying to get it
together to do that," she says. "i've got specific songs that i've been
working on for that purpose. it will probably be sort of punk with some
country thrown in. i've had some rehearsals and have made preliminary plans
as to who i'm going to record with. i just have to figure out how to fit it
into my schedule."
ray hopes to use some of her downtime on the girl's upcoming american tour
(allstar, sept 1) to work out some of the details of the album. ray is hoping
the record will serve as a benefit for her atlanta-based indie label, daemon
records. "i want to put it out myself," she says. "if epic wont let me do it,
i'll have to wait till i'm not on the label."

subject: [ig-news] philosophy of loss lyrics
[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]
since i've been asked for the lyrics to philosophy of loss, i figured i'd
post it for everyone. feel free to share if you think it's something
different. heather davis and i have been figuring out the hard parts, and
here's our consensus:
welcome to why the church has died
in the heart of the exile, in the kingdom of fate.
who owns the land and keeps the commands,
and marries itself to the state.
modern scribes write 'in jesus christ, everyone is free'.
and the doors open wide to all straight men and women,
but they are not open to me.
who is teaching kids to be soldiers?
to be marked by a plain white cross?
and we kill just a little to save a lot more,
the philosophy of loss.
and there are a few who would be true out of love,
and love is hard.
and don't think that our hands haven't shoveled the dirt,
of all their central american graveyards.
doctors and witch hunters stripped you bare,
left you nothing for your earthy sins.
yeah but who made this noise? just a bunch of boys.
and the one with the most toys wins.
and who is teaching kids to be gamblers?
life is a coin toss.
and of course, what you give up is what you gain.
the philosophy of loss.
whatever has happened to anyone else
could happen to you and to me.
the end of my youth was the possible truth
that it all happens randomly.
so who is teaching kids to be leaders?
and the way that it is is meant to be.
the philosophy of loss.
great song, eh?
leslie
