the guardian:

three stars (= "enjoyable")

"the dour georgian folkstresses have jazzed up this lp with appearances by
sheryl crow, me'shell ndegeocello and world-music siren natacha atlas, who
add verve to emily saliers's and amy ray's sombre, politicised treatises.
crow reverts to her southern twang on the country-bluesy cold beer and
remote control and atlas is a ghostly, reeling presence on faye tucker, a
eulogy to the murderer executed in texas last year. the indigos themselves
offer the usual commitment, sweet harmonies and a lack of commercial nous
that you'll either love or hate."

q magazine:

3 stars (= "good. not for everyone, but fine within its field)

"amy ray and emily saliers have beens scribing wordy, wry, quirky little
vignettes about relationships love and loss for nigh on a decade now, and
their seventh album inds the duo mining this productive seam once again.
they're on good form.  gone again, peace tonight, and we are together are
rich in detail and songwriting suss, and their lengthy list of guests
include  sheryl crow, joan osborne, me-shell ndegeocello, natacha atlas and
luscious jackson's kate shellenbach.  it's a skilful outing, but at this
stage one which is unlikely to attract any new devotees."

oddly enough, i looked up two other reviews for bands in this months
issue -- live and matthew sweet, and they all gave exactly the same rating
and followed the same format: a really good review, followed by the
punchline "unlikely to win them any new fans".  must all use the same
template, and stick their names on the end.

they seemed very happy to be there in berkeley and the sf area....they said
they felt comfortable there.  they talked about crossword puzzles again and
asked if anyone did them - someone said yes and emily said "the new york
times? by yourself?" then they were saying how they had been stumped on a
couple but they had gotten phyllis wheatley so they were proud of themselves
for that...lots of singing and dancing from the crowd and i didn't hear
anyone yell galileo but before gone again amy said "and i promise we're gonna
play galileo"

[...]

so i had a good time tonight :) :) i taped the show too but i haven't
finished listening to it yet..it sounded a little fast and chipmunky in the
car on the way home but it sounds better on my stereo here so i'll have to
clean it up a bit..maybe someone else has a better copy on dat or minidisk.

peace :) lisa

three days left until the portland show! looks like  the best idea for a
listmeet is at cucina cucina! across the street from the rose garden...
let's meet around 6:00, and we can all have dinner... i'll write again
and say what i'll be wearing, etc...

it looks like we have two extra tickets to the november 10th show here in
portland. apparently there was a miscommunication and some friends we bought
tickets for, bought some of their own. right now, i'm not completely sure
what the specific seats are. we aren't on the floor, but the first section
above the floor on the amy side! my friend is currently holding the tix and
i'm waiting to hear back from her for the specifics. they aren't front row
or anything, but i can promise that you'd be sitting near some real fun
folks (us!). we only want to get face value for the tix which i believe is
$35 each. i know the show isn't sold out, but these would be better than
most of what i'm sure is currently available. if you or someone you know
might be interested, please email me, and we'll work out hooking up to get
the tix to ya!

peace y'all,  laura
