i just thought you'd all like to know that cons is #1 of the world cafe
albums. i don't know how they determine the top 10, but ig came out on
top! :-)

for those in the atlanta area, that wanted to go to the special show at the
star bar on thursday, dec 16th, at 3:00 pm, there are still some passes
available at the radio station.
to recap, you need to have bought the project x cd box set (still available
at best buys for $19.99). take the "big ticket" from inside that box set to
the radio station between the hours of 8:30-5:30 monday through friday. you
can get directions to the radio station at http://www.99x.com (on the
contacts page).
and they'll give you a pass for two people to get into the show at the star
bar.
=)

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo

hkf's,
here's the plan that me & cathy came up with. after the show for both
nights, we will all meet in the cnn center at a lounge called latitudes.
it's open until 2am and you don't have to worry about being carded or
anything. from there we can head out if we want or just chill there. it's
practically across the street from the tabernacle (152 luckie st.) so that's
why it should be convenient for everybody.
i made up a quick web page that has a map and a neat-o picture of inside the
tabernacle. so here's my 'listee atlanta' page:
http://home.earthlink.net/~mcunningham5/listmeet.html
and let us know if you have any other ideas of where to go from there. but
for right now, simpler is better until some other idea comes up.
thanks for your time.
cya thursday afternoon & evening!

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]
>from glaadalert
teen people's lesbian and gay role models
ten gay and lesbian celebrities are prominently featured in the december
1999/january 2000 issue of teen people. the article, "out of the dark,"
carries the subhead: "meet ten gay and lesbian stars who found peace,
happiness - and success - after they dared to tell the truth." what follows
are thoughtful profiles that provide teen people's young readers,
regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, with positive
images and insights about same-sex feelings, being in the closet, coming
out and experiencing life after doing so.
profiled are singers amy ray and emily saliers of the indigo girls, actor
dan pintauro, director/writer kevin williamson, skater rudy galindo, actor
wilson cruz, singer stephan gately of the musical group boyzone, actor
rupert everett, actress anne heche and author/activist chastity bono.
while talking about coming out or being open, the celebrities cover both
the positive and negative. williamson (dawson's creek, scream, wasteland)
says, "if anything, it's helped me. when you tell the truth about who you
are, it can only help." cruz (party of five, my so-called life) spoke of
how his father threw him out after he spoke about his sexuality. everett
(an ideal husband, my best friend's wedding) talks about how being openly
gay has not limited his roles, a common fear in hollywood. on the other
hand, heche (six days, seven nights) reports that her coming out and her
relationship with ellen degeneres have made for a difficult transition. she
also says although roles are not being offered as much, "i could never hide
any part of myself, no matter what the consequences."
please thank teen people for providing positive role models for youth and
these honest looks at being openly lesbian and gay - both the good aspects
and the sometimes difficult results.

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo

i'm on digest, so don't know if a setlist has already been posted... here
'tis, just in case.
go
trouble
i don't wanna know
peace tonight
scooter boys
soon be to nothing (the guitar work on this was sooooooooooo pretty)
ozillene
cold beer & remote control
dead man's hill (i can't freakin' believe they played this!!! they said
they had to get out the songbook and relearn it, and that they totally
remember what it's like to have to learn songs out of those songbooks
where a lot of the chords are wrong -- "hey, this neil young song isn't
supposed to sound like this!" it sounded *great*.)
closer to fine
shed your skin
power of two
sister
least complicated
faye tucker (more intense than last night, even. just... wow.)
get out the map
shame on you
encore:
gone again
do you wanna touch (with the butchies) (this killed me, even though i was
expecting it. i think a lot of the audience, being a college crowd and
all, was too young to really recognize & appreciate it... but it was
totally fun.)
("and now for the song you've all been waiting for...")galileo
the butchies were lots of fun, and the crowd was great, i thought. both
amy & emily seemed to be enjoying themselves and we got a lot of "thanks
for singing!" and "thanks for listening!" on the way offstage amy gave a
big thumbs-up -- i couldn't tell if it was directed at a specific person
or at the audience in general -- but they seemed pretty happy with the
response they got. i had the best seats i've ever had for an ig show (9th
row). after two shows in a week, i really wish i could catch a few more.
:) i wish i'd gotten to hear johnny rotten at one of them, but i loved
everything i did hear, so hey, life is good.
cheers,

subject: [ig-news] milwaukee setlist 12/8/99
i haven't seen a milwaukee set list yet, so here's my best shot at it-- not
necessarily in order.
go -- brought the crowd to its feet
trouble
get out the map
sister -- to die for!!
chickenman -- nice accordion solo
peace tonight
shed your skin -- scorching!
cold beer & remote control
ozilline
compromise
andy -- stunning!, emily on bouzouki
closer to fine -- the usual sing-along
johnny rotten -- my first time hearing it. awesome!
i don't wanna know (amy on lead, even though this is an emily song)
faye tucker -- amy did just a few notes of her own vocalizing in the spot
where the recording has the arabic singer, then she went back into a verse
- -- worked well for concert purposes
least complicated -- this must be a favorite of the milwaukee audience, i
remember it being the best sing-along back in '97, too
shame on you
- ---------------------------
burn all the letters (i think this is the one mrs. fun joined them
on--also great backing vocals by the 3 women in the band!)
kid fears (now there's a surprise treat! the audience filled in michal
stipe's part nicely)
galileo
all in all, a&e were in great spirits, and the crowd was good, too.
there was a request for watershed, but they said they didn't know it any
more, and apologized, saying that they'd screw it up if they tried it.
at one point they commented that the media were always calling amy the
"dark" one and emily the "light" one, so from now on amy is going to wear
light colors, and emily will wear dark colors, just to give them something
to talk about. amy looked great in a white shirt (slightly western style)
and black (nylon?) pants, and gray what looked like either clogs or boots,
kind of earthy looking. emily was wearing a dark magenta shirt and i think
blue pants.
during mrs. fun's opening set, a&e joined kim and connie for one number,
called "undecided". their voices worked really well on that song, even
though funk-jazz-rap is not their usual style.

sold out show!!!!
set list (in order):
go
trouble
chickenman
peace tonight
land of canaan
least complicated
sister
cold beer & remote control
i don't wanna know
closer to fine
ozilline
soon to be nothing
johnny rotten
compromise
power of two
faye tucker
get out the map
shame on you
the encore included singers kelly hogan and nico case who sang lead on
the first two songs:
help me make it through the night (kris kristofferson)
jolene (dolly parton)
galileo
okay...so now for the dish! amy wore black & white houndstooth slacks
with the ubiquitous black tank under a b&w striped shirt (open). and of
course, the blue suede shoes! she looked great! emily wore a solid black
button down shirt and black jeans...the best part was this sparkly blue
eye shadow...tres chic! like i said, they both looked great and seemed to
have a great time with the performance. this was their fifth concert in
as many days and amy said they were actually doing okay..."not too
hoarse." during trouble emily skipped the second verse and went into the
instrumental bridge. she started jamming out and amy got her attention
and reminded her of the words...emily laughed and later attributed
forgetting the song to the fact that they've done so many shows in a row!
amy was particularly chatty. she asked the crowd if we'd been christmas
shopping, to which we all responded with "no" and "boo." she laughed and
said we had a bah-humbug attitude and that she'd love to be able to go
christmas shopping and asked if anyone would be interested in picking up
a few things for her. of course, everyone loved that!
at the end of the show amy read a psa about educating ourselves on the
controversial issue of using recycled metal from nuclear powerplants in
common things such as toys, appliances, and automobiles.
here's news i know you'll all love: at work i receive email from a
company called concert ideas (see concertideas.com) -- the latest email
update, on 12/7, showed ig are available for booking in february, march,
and april of 2000. i can't wait to see what develops!

setlist in order:
go

jonas and ezekial (wow!!)
least complicated
ozillene (dedicated to rick denko)
soon be to nothing
shed your skin (wow wow wow)
peace tonight
romeo and juliet (no words to describe...)

love's recovery (beautiful...yes, a tear in my eye)
compromise
get out the map
kid fears (gotta love singing backup on this one)
power of 2
shame on you
***encore***
virginia woolf
do you want to touch me (a joan jett song w/butchies)
galileo
all in all a spectacular performance, the girls seemed in very high spirits
and very chatty. fashion report (for those who care like me): amy had on
black pants, blue suede shoes and a plain white button down shirt. emily was
in the all black ensemble, what looked like red leather boots, and the
infamous blue sparkly eye stuff. gotta love that.
on to the chit chat...
i'm not sure when they said this stuff so i'm just going to write it all
down like i remember it.
i was a little um...worried at the beginning of the show because emily said,
"i feel speechless" right before she did sbtn...and it seemed like she was
really emotionally affected by singing it...a lot of closing her eyes with
her head up to the ceiling, and strained faces. it was a beautiful
performance. she really got into sys right after it though.
here's a little dialogue i remember:
em: did y'all know that scientists think there might have been an ocean on
mars? that is so fucking cool! (looks down at amy who's messing with her
guitar stuff on the stage after amy looked up and shook her head yes) well,
i know you knew that...
(she said something else about how a superior being is going to be at a
concert thinking about that...i don't really remember, and i didn't quite
get it...)
amy: maybe there's going to be somebody on mars thinking there might have
been an ocean on earth.
emily: oooooh, yeah. (giving amy this joking look like, wow, how profound
doing this little circular motion with her hands like in the galileo video.
i can't really explain it, but it was one of those precious ig
moments...trust me, it was great)well, we don't know anything.
amy: yeah, ok.
there's one other great moment that i remember very well...
the girls were taking requests from the audience saying that they leave
blank spaces in the setlists so they can play whatver they feel like...and
then they just really confuse themselves.
amy: we're so unprofessional...
em: we're just two redneck girls from georgia. (big emily smile)
amy: two radical rednecks...
em: what are we doing here...i don't know
amy: i don't know
em: i don't know...
that's all the conversing i can remember well enough to report back. i could
swear, though, that at the chicago show, and tonight...that emily said two
black dogs and a white woman...i saw it, i think. can anybody back me up?
i'm always so amazed by how approachable emily is and how it seems like she
really enjoys signing stuff. she signed my watershed hat and my ticket stub.
if you remember correctly, she signed my hand at the chicago show....which
i'm proud to report is still there...and yes i have been washing my
hand...just very carefully. aaaanyway, emily saw it and sorta looked at it
and i said, "you signed my hand in chicago, remember?" she looked at it
again and let out one of those magnificent emily laughs and a huge smile. i
think she was sort of amused.
it was a wonderful, wonderful night, and my last concert on the cons tour :(
suffragette anyone??

for the list
meet (aside from the fact that they wouldn't take reservations) because it
was half a
block from the venue.
lisa tat and/or alysa we're anxiously awaiting a report on the big room
