tomorrow is my last day at work.

i have been employed by my company for almost 5 years.  i have been politely
asked to leave.  i decided to resign rather than be politely fired.

just proof that the girls are quite right--"every five years or so i look
back on my life and have a good laugh."

i am laughing.  i am happy.  i am looking forward to the challenge.

i am also sad.  i have cultivated so many wonderful friendships at
work--friendships that i hope continue on.

just a mellow little "hey, i don't have a job after tomorrow" note.

hope everyone has a great week!

hey again - i just feel like posting a lot today, i guess.

sorry!

i have one list teeshirt left. the design is at:

http://www.netuser.com/~aswenson/images/ig-tee.gif

it's navy print on off-white and it's a xxxl. i'm asking $12 for the
shirt if you live in the us, a little more if you're international.

since i originally had these shirts made back in 98, i'm kinda anxious
to get rid of this last bit of stock, so email me if you want to buy it.

love,
amy

ps - those of you who weren't around when i originally made the t-shirt
offer, i got these at cost from a printer and am making absolutely no
profit off them - the $12 price came from the average cost of having the
shirts made, plus the cost of shipping.

yeah, there was a girl near me that kept begging for a setlist
everytime they ended a song.  why can't people just appreciate their
music and not shout things at them.  imho, things like set lists are
luck of the draw after the concert.  and i never heard whatever it was
a&e were trying to say while people were screaming for their attention.

i was, however, lucky enough to catch a pick from sulli after the
show<g>, my first one, and i've tried many times.

i thought the show was great despite some of the audience.  i was so
happy to hear some of my old favorites and the acoustic set was great!
(can you count emily's electric banjo as acoustic?  <g>).  and this was
closest i have ever managed to get too, about 4 people deep away from
the stage.  heaven!  :)

i read the post about cb&rc being played on the radio so i took the bull by
the horns and wrote the program director of a station here in philly. here's
my letter:

dear jim,

> now social" is one of their finest with some great radio-friendly songs. i

he replied and because of the list serve rules i'm not sure if i'm allowed
to post his exact reply but he said he'd break out the cd and give the song
a listen. maybe others might want to go to their favorite radio station web
site and send the program director a similar letter. wouldn't it be so cool
if amy could hear cb&rc or  even go for that matter,  on the radio while she
is recovering????
wishing hard,

hey y'all!  this is the monthly reminder to the newbies and lovelorn that
there is a place for you to find other indigo lovin' singles on egroups.

the indigo-singles page (not associated with the list except for the fact
that there are mostly listees subscribed) currently has 101 members and 58
profiles to choose from.  it was created due to the desire of many indigo
girls fans to meet and possibly date each other. it is open to all listees
of different genders/identities/orientations.

to subscribe, send a message to: indigo-singles-subscribe@egroups.com.
you can set it up to read any messages on the web or through email, but
that's not really what the site is for.

after you subscribe, go to the site:
<http://www.egroups.com/group/indigo-singles/>. when you
get there, click on 'database', then on "vital statistics", then on 'add
record'.  fill in your info, then repeat for the "favorite things" table.
then wait for like-minded singles to contact you, or take the plunge and
contact others whose descriptions/profiles interest you.
you only have to give as much info as you want, or you can always
just lurk. the only thing you need to participate is an email address.

in addition, there is a chat room, and a 'vault' in which you can place a
photo, or your homepage, or view those of other members.

happy matchmaking,

your friendly neighborhood sap and indigo-singles moderator,

tara

hello all kind friends...
okay so i have finally decided that quitting smoking is an absolute *must*
being as cigarettes just went up $.55 (again) in ny, and i just can't afford
it anymore... financially, or health-wise...
so (i do have a point) i finally decided that in turn, to reward myself (and
give me something to distract from the withdrawals lol) i should fulfill my
desire/ ambition (inspired by the girls, of course) to learn to play the
guitar, and although i know there is a 'indigo-guitar' list or something out
there, i don't think i am quite ready to go there...
i picked up a guitar for the *first* time tonight (and bought it with the
help of a most kind professional), and basically i am in search of any
'beginner' tips or advice anyone can give me... the most basic advice is
probably not basic enough... lol... i am teaching myself, partly for the
challenge/fun of it, partly for the aforementioned budget issues hehehe...
so i call out for help to the kindest most helpful people i know...
thanks in advance....

rachel (who obviously enjoys parentheses)

ps - any tips on the easiest/ most basic ig tunes to start with?? (gotta have
goals ... lol)

hint, hint ;)

i'm the only guy there it seems. my straight friend
matthew once said to me "lots of gay guys like the
indigo girls". i told him "well i have yet to find
love at an ig concert." or many guys of any persuasion
for that matter...

random ig moment: the very good movie "get real" out
now on video about cute english boys in love has an ig
song playing in the background at one point. my
housemate elana threatened to thwack me with a pillow
when i started shouting 'its the indigo girls!' during
that scene, and drowning out the dialogue... :)

just a word of caution with artist direct...tori amos has a new artist direct
site and a few people who have bought from it and didn't use their credit
card (meaning they were going to send in a check) apparently had problems
with limited edition stuff (like limited vinyl) even though ad said it was
guaranteed to them for 30 days...i think you are probably cool if you use a
credit card but if you don't have one, just be careful.

debit cards work exactly like credit cards (unless of course you're trying to
rent a car or something..) as long as they've got a visa or mc logo, then
they work just like visas and mc's do. the only reason they don't work in
some areas is if you are specifically using them as a debit card and your
bank happens to not be linked to wherever you are...(for example, my norwest
check card is only linked to cirrus, so if i try to use it as a debit card
somewhere that is not linked to cirrus, it gets declined. but two seconds
later it works just fine if it's entered as a credit card. i use my debit
card on line all the time without problems.)

i know many straight men and women who adore indigo girls.  admittedly, we
are few at the concerts. maybe it's just my location...southern california
seems more friendly to differences than many other places i have lived.

hi everyone,

i logged onto the ticketmaster australia site today to buy my tickets and discovered, to my horror, that the purchase button had been removed - does that mean it's sold out?

my friend and i are flying into australia especially for these shows, so i am hoping that there is a kind soul out there who happens to have extra tickets to either or both shows. we would be thrilled to buy them from you. we arrive on thursday morning (march 9), so we can meet you to pay you as soon as we arrive.

barring that, does anyone know the situation with scalpers? are there usually tickets available just before the show?

any help much appreciated.

many thanks,
doreen

i always see quite a few gay men at ig concerts. of course, i do live in
southern california...oct. 31 at san diego state university open air theatre,
2 gay men walked by, one of them said to the other, "i think i'll go butch
tonight and get some beer."  this seemed very funny to me. i suppose you had
to be there. plus i was somewhat intoxicated myself.

the lovely boy whom i dated freshman year of high school (using the word
'dated' very loosely) and then came out to (and he came out to me 4 months
later) pretends to hate the indigo girls.  well, actually, and i realize this
is wayyy nigc, well, sorta, he pretends to hate amy ray's voice/singing.  to
be honest, he's the gin blossoms/gloria estefan/lite rock kinda gay guy, so
i'm thinking of making him a mix tape....'mostly em saliers, with a little
bit of amy ray thrown in, 'cause i've just gotta pull him over to the indigo
girls lovin' side, right?

i said nothing when he went through his celine dion stage....

*blush*

i am an idiot.  i'm sorry.  the worst part is, my mail
is all coming a day late, so i didn't know i'm an
idiot until just now.

uh, since i've got your attention, i've been working
on another "you know you're obsessed with the indigo
girls when" projects.  i've been transcribing every
scene from watershed (as i like to call it, "creating
a reverse storyboard"), and so far i've finished the
program start and have it posted on the web:
http://www.geocities.com/sunsetstrip/frontrow/8979/lyric/watershed.htm
so if you're obsessed too you can peak at that.

if you're wondering about name that tune, i'm going to
wait the weekend to see if any email stragglers that
were actually sent before the deadline wanders into my
mailbox.

lori (still blushing)

hi all of you fans.
glad to be able to pass on some of the excitement that resonates after
the show.
michelle malone was setting up her merchandise when they let us enter
the venue.  then she went into the other room until she was ready to play.
once she and david (lapierre?) came out ready to play the promoter came on
stage and announced coming attractions and then introduced michelle.
david is a bass player and sang some backup on some of the songs.
     she started with
          on my way (with david)
     then dedicated
          brand new dream (with david)
to all past employers and ex's of all kinds
then she said this song was kind of sad at the beginning but has a happy
ending
          strength for two
     title track
          homegrown
then she introduced david and played
all i can give you (is me) (with david)
          havasu falls
          tanya tucker (solo)
          green
          avalon
****intermission**** during which we bought cds and hats and t-shirts from
michelle

          the gathering (solo)
          32 seconds (solo)
          green thumb (with david)
          keeping score (with david)
this next one she played and sang really fast ...kind of like it was on
fast forward...it was really a treat
cheap one star hotel ...broke into lay down sally and ...act naturally...
and then back to the rest of the song (with david)
          butter buscuit
          medicated magdalene (solo)
          dimming soul (solo)
          grace
          hollow day (really soulful)
****encore****
          teen lament
then she sold some more merchandise and talked to some of the people.  then
we thanked her for coming out to the west and we left

** some of the songs i put notes like (solo) or (with david) the rest of the
songs i just don't remember whether he was playing with her or not.
i would have liked to write a somewhat different format, but i am extremely
busy lately and just wanted to get this written for those of you who want to
know the setlist and stuff.  she did take requests and some of these songs
were requests, i just can't remember when she asked us.  two of the requests
were butter buscuit and dimming soul.
she had her blue ffa jacket, and her guitar strap was representative of
the flag with red white and blue.  she only brought her harmonicas and her
acoustic guitar and one of her strings broke during a song, so once she
finished the song (we kept the beat for her since she stopped playing) she
had to stop and change the string.  just shows that anything can happen and
great performer that she is, she just kept right on.
if anyone has anything to correct or add, send me an email and let me
know...i am definitely not perfect.
:-)

hey, listees...my local indie record store is selling copies of tame
yourself (the peta benefit from a few years back with ig and
michael stipe, among others) for cheap.  they're promo copies, so
they've already been opened...if anyone wants me to snag 'em a
copy, let me know.  i'd really rather set up some sort of trade for
this than have people give me money, but whatever...they had
about 8 copies when i went earlier today.
hope everyone's having an indigo weekend! =)

hey!

no one has posted yet, but ctf was used as the intro
song the third short film in tonight's hbo movie "if
these walls could talk".

it was kinda cool cause it was unexpected.

btw, it was a great film.

my wife and i just thru watching hbo's if these walls 2.
very well done production.  we laughed and we cried. i was so glad to hear
melissa and ig songs (closer to fine wasn't it?) used in the movie.  we have
come along way but we have further to go down on the road called acceptance
of all people.  if you didn't catch the movie tonight, it will be on all
month and if anyone needs me to tape it for them, just let me know in a
private email. but, i bet in a few months you can rent it or buy your own
copy.

peace love and other great sports,

i must say that this was fantastic...i was very pleasantly surprised.  all
of the acting was wonderful, i thought segment 2 was fantastic.  i was
saddened by the fact that the gay community which i call my family sometimes
draws these lines that are so much more based on prejudice than we like to
think...
and i cant say enough about segment 3...bravo to ellen and sharon...they
were absolutely fabulous...hope you all had the enjoyment of seeing this...

hi
a couple of years ago, i was on this list.  someone from the united states
was kind enough to record an ig video for me from pay per view.  not long
after i received it, i was rather ill and was in a bit of a bad state.
after i got out of hospital,  i had the video etc, but couldnt track down
the contact details of the person who had sent them to me.   you will
probably remember me by my name: sandy indlekofer-o'sullivan or you may have
sent it just to sandy o'sullivan if i was trying to be kind and save you the
difficult spelling.

i am hoping that this kind person could possibly contact me and let me know
their address, so i can send them the reparations for their efforts.    at
the time i was on the list and the person sent me the video, i was living in

i saw the hbo production. i thought it was very
good. of the three stories, i thought the third
segment was the weakest, but it still had a couple
of funny moments.

anyay, i loved the fact that they opened the
segment with a bit of "closer to fine." did anyone
notice the mistake in the credits? when they
listed the songwriters, they credited "closer
to fine" as being written by "amy ray and emily
saliers."  tsk, tsk, tsk!

it may be that this has already been mentioned, and has yet to catch up with

during one of the montage scenes of the hbo movie last night. i thought it
was really quite a good film - definitely had some flaws, but all in all,
beautifully done.

happy monday all -

while flipping through the march 2000 issue of food & wine magazine
(cooking and eating.... another passion of mine besides the indigo girls) i
was delighted to see some recipes from emily's restaurant, watershed.  the
article is called "stars' comfort food" and features many celebrity's

yummy......  let me know if you want copies of the recipes!  otherwise, you
can check out the article at

last night i was taping if these walls could talk since i was attempting to
make it to bed early (yeah...right...).  i was in another room doing some
work on the computer while taping and all of a sudden i hear the familiar
melody from closer to fine on the tv in the other room.  turns out it was
the opening song to the third section, directly by ann heche.  i can't wait
to watch it this evening!

hey everyone,

bad news for anyone hopin' to go to the 4/15 show at manhattanville.

i just got over the phone with the student activity office people. it seems
that they closed the show to the public. the show is now only open to
students and guests of students.

now, if we have any manhattanville students on the list. let me be the first
to ask for a favor of huge proportion. please... please... help me out with a
ticket or two. i can repay this favor with delicious soundscapes from recent

if purchase is a closed shoqw - someone just needs to go to the college, put
flyers up or ask a student to buy tickets. there has never been a show a
persistent, yet, courteous fan, hasn't been able to get into...

besides - you never know where the earth day show may be (any one know in
stone mtn is still having earth day shows?!?, i know wbos in boston has one
at the hatch shell (oh the memories of seeing hornsby there, front row - on
the hatch marble taking pictures throughout his set last year.. oh yeah
susan tedeshchi and melissa ferrick were there as well as the guy from men
at work and the push stars and duncan sheik... a great lineup for free!)

but if there is a earth day show - and if stone mountain isn't having it -
it would make sense that it may be in boston area- but they also have played
new england and flown doown to stone mtn after.

it's still early - amy and em need a northern excursion sometime!

i deleted it right away but am not sure what the deal was the the indigo-singles subject line.  i sure hope that this isn't someone within our group trying to be cute.  if it was a mistake, and a melissa gordon is a member, then i appologize for this attack.

i recommend that everyone aquaint herself with file extensions. anything
ending with ".exe" is an executable file, and will actually "do " something
when you download it, as opposed to a jpeg or some other file which is
usually innocuous unless the sender is relatively sophisticated in terms of
viruses.
i feel compelled to add that virus alerts are almost always a hoax, and a
waste of bandwidth and time, like chain letters.

actually this is not a hoax.  it is very real.  and i got it from the
indigo-singles group as well.  i know the person that was infected didn't
know they had it, so hopefully their system is ok as well.  it took me 2
hours to reload windows to get rid of the darn thing.  it writes a file
called files32.vxd into windows/system directory then reconfigures windows
to automatically run this file whenever you open and exe file.  mcafee
should have caught it but didn't since the new virus sig file didn't come
out until after i got this virus.  when mcafee finally did recognize it it
deleted the file which then caused my windows os to freak out.  i couldn't
open anything until i reinstalled windows.  so please, if you see this file
delete it.  several people on this list have already emailed me telling me
they have gotten this from various other people, not me thank goodness, so i
suppose i did catch it in time.  i don't open .exe files unless i know
exactly what they are.  in this particular instance my poor mother opened
the file thinking that it was something important and relying on our virus
scanning software.  mcafee and others are aware of this virus, so if you
download the newest virus definition files for your particular software
vendor you should be protected from this.

thank you. i didn't mean to minimize the danger of viri.  i think, if you
just delete email from someone you don't know or trust, and never download
exe files, you might be ok...also, this is an industry that feeds onitself.
the same people who create the viri keep the antivirus companies going.  in
some cases, people work for both sides at once! it is like war,
self-perpetuating. look at standard oil in ww2, mitsubishi heavy industries,
etc.
anyway, i'm drunk on arrogant bastard ale, so take whatever i say with some
methamphet--uh..i mean a grain of salt.

in response to kathleen's earlier request for tickets to the manhattenville

i second that request, only i will be needing 3 tickets (sorry to be a hog).  if
you can help out, email me privately.

as for watershed in food and wine, one of my most memorable experiences
in atlanta this december (you all remember that don't you?) was being able
to eat there twice.  the food is excellent and the wine is fantastic. it's
great to see that it's getting the attention it deserves.  bravo to emily and
her
friends!!!

if you're in the decatur area anytime soon, go, go, go to watershed.

happy tuesday

i don't know which queen you're referring to-- i certainly hope it wasn't
britney spears (who yes, was a grand marshal at one of the big parades- a
sad commentary on our times.)

hi y'all.  just a bootleg report.

i know some of y'all are getting impatient, so i'm just writing to say i'm
sorry these are taking so long.  school's been a bitch this semester and to
top it all off, i've been diagnosed with gastritis and had to do the whole
'drink barium get x-rays' thing this morning, which sucked, but at least
everything turned out okay and i don't have ulcers.  so, it seems i have too
much stress and eat too many spicy foods, so i'll have to make some changes,
but on the good side, i start horseback riding lessons tonight, so that
should be fun..... but i digress....

i have 27 packages in the wait line for early recordings and am just
finishing up the last bit of 9:30 club packs today.  i have 20 or so
assorted packs of 9:30 and montreal '94 and shades at home, so if you're
waiting for those, you should have them next week.  if you didn't follow my
instructions and sent me everything in one package, then i'm sorry you're
having to wait for each recording batch to get done - that's why i asked you
to send them separately, so i could send 'em as they were finished.

on bumbershoot....
i still have a recording from breanna and ryan but (and no offense to them,
they did a great job and i appreciate it) it has a lot of stereo crossover
(l->r and back), and some loud people surrounding.  i once had someone offer
to send me another so that i could pick the best of the two and mix them,
but nobody ever sent me anything.  then there was going to be a webcast, but
still no sign of it.  i'm going to have to continue to put this on hold, or
farm it out to someone else, unless someone has another copy that i can mix
with the one i have - please contact me if you do, and you're willing to
share.

on the tampa radio broadcast...
just got it today from nancy and just listened to a little snippet.  sounds
great.  overdriven in places but still overall, a very good recording.  i
think i'm gonna make this next in line.  i still have to master it and
design artwork and all, but i expect i'll be able to make this offer after i
finish up these packs i have, i'd expect around late march.

at that time, i'll re-offer everything else that i've done in the past, to
bring everyone up to date (early recordings, shades of indigo, montreal '94
+ reverse one live, and 9:30 club and more).  so - if you're one of the
people i told to be patient, there's only a little bit longer to wait.

after that offer goes out and finishes up sometime in may, i'll be offering
nothing to hide and in with the out crowd.  i'm really excited about that,
because, iwtoc is my favorite boot (next to 9:30), because it has an awesome
awesome version of chickenman that'll make ya cry with the soc.  anyhow....

i guess that's everything i needed to bore y'all with.  hang in there and be
patient for me.  i promise i will get everything done and back to ya.

one disc at a time....

tara
