hit the wrong address book entry... however, it is a very cool site where you
can save rainforest land for free!  (advertisers pay and the site donates all
the money to the cause)...  so anyways, back to igc and my apologies!

reddened but still hoping people will check out the site

regedit4

save the file as undo.reg

i just rid myself of it after updating windows registry, rebooting in safe

i also deleted my address book as well (i just installed a new version- so i

it's some legislation proposed in ca (by peter knight - is it peter?)
that will prohibit all same sex marriages from being recognzed in that
state.  kind of a moot point since same sex marriages are not legal yet

hi, im new to this list, but i wanted to say something
in regards to this post...

vermont, however, is consindering (or was) same sex
"whatever" beit "marriage" or just recognizing ones
partner as their spouse and giving them the same
rights as a husband or wife.  and i heard another
state had this same thing going, but i dont know which
one.  i dont even know what happened to that vermont
legislation.  anyhoo, i digress.

and remind me never to move to california.  im happy
here in massachusetts.... 20 miles away from the
lesbian capital of the northeast!  yeehaw!  :p

thank you.  :)

well, i'm officially disappointed in california. i haven't seen any
emails flying back and forth about this yet, but then i'm on digest, so
maybe it's been hashed to death. california voters approved prop 22 -
the knight initiative, which basically means that if another state -
such as vermont - were to legallize same-sex marriages, california would
not recognize them.

argh. fooey on them.

in *good* news - i got a new job, and will be the web developer/graphic
designer at a small start up in sunnyvale. plus, they are going to be
giving me a 42% salary raise to do something i actually enjoy! i start
in three weeks...plus, my boss is gay, and i'm already out to him, so i
don't have to worry about any of that awkwardness! :) it's a good deal,
allaround, except for the leaving of people i actually like working
with. that's hard, and getting harder by the day, since i'm getting all
these nice emails and phone calls, and they're basically trying to guilt
me into staying. i don't think so. :)

love -

fyi...cnn.com has a "quick vote" posted about the calif. ban on same sex

since most people are anti selling of ig cdr's - it's a heads up!

sorry chris - too many fans have put way to much time and effort as labors

greetings!
today's weather in northern ohio has been unseasonally warm and it has put
me in a great mood! i have a quick question about the chicago show on march
30th. given that it has been rescheduled to fall on my spring break, i'm
thinking, "what great timing for a roadtrip!" so, does anyone have any extra
tickets--perhaps you can't make it to the new show (i'm sorry about that...)
or you bought too many tickets last time? let me know. i have to start
planning this trip soon!
thanks!
peace,
becky--who is beyond excited for the new dates but also extremely bummed out
because ig will be in cincinnati on both the 12th and 13th of may, but i
can't stay for the 13th show...i have to be back at school for my own
school's folk festival--which i have an obligation (and which i want) to be
at given that i'm helping organize it. (wow, that was a long explanation!).

the really insidious element of the measure is that it can be used to damage

on that note, registered california voters might want to take a look at
this website:

http://www.samesexmarriage.org/

this is the website for a grassroots campaign attempting to place a
same-sex marriage initiative on the november ballot; they need to collect
enough signatures to qualify this initiative for the ballot.  plenty of
info here . . . ways to volunteer, petitions to circulate, etc.

so glad someone acknowledged the true significance of the now passed
hate-law. also there is the social factor--when the law supports and
condones discrimination...(besides, the supreme court already said a state
can't refuse to acknowledge a marriage legalized in another state--they
tried to do that here in the south with inter-racial marriages).

you know, i had a bit of concern when ig moved to artistdirect, which
represents a slew of other artists.  another fave of mine, aimee mann, has
signed up with them too (probably for their distribution more than
anything), but for the most part the list of artists they represent are a
who's who of the lame, commercial rock that the girls disdain (with some
notable exceptions).  so when i see this stuff:

i can't help but wonder what the hell is going on.  surely i am not the
only one who shakes her head at an *official* sale of autographed posters
for $50...

now, there's nothing wrong with getting whatever the market will bear for
their signatures (if they don't, someone else will). it's just that
somehow, it doesn't seem like them to reap such profits from their fans.

just my thoughts, ymmv.

you're right, i mean, it's not like they need the money. i kinda always
assumed they were giving the proceeds to hte or something, otherwise, why
waste their time doing it?

<<i can't help but wonder what the hell is going on.  surely i am not the

posters, i can see, trust me, they look really good framed :o) songbooks, i
can't. i mean, all our songbooks are well used and beat up, so if one was
signed it's not going to stary pretty very long. and for it to stay pretty,
it won't get used properly, so why buy a signed songbook?

actually, we got a poster, well two - the first one had a rip through, so
they sent us another, no questions asked, so we have a spare.

hey,

i second that call for possible info on the eastern kentucky university show in richmond.  i can not make the postponed chicago date (the one i won tickets for...hummm...wonder if i could contact someone and use those tix for richmond instead...) because i am coordinating a women's history event at my school that evening.  and i won't be able to make either the cinci spitfire, or the cinci show cause that's my graduation weekend.  so it looks like richmond is the only possibility.  if anyone can get any new information on that, please let me know.

thanks,
karen :-)

yep--and the son is not so happy about dad--of course, a lot of our parents

in addition to my last post:  it's possible that parents of gay couples
are notoriously afraid
of losing their hope of pulling sons  or daughters away from their gay
spouses,
which  may be the undrlying reason for voting
against gay marriages.   who knows?   but
whatever the reason,  it sure  is  a  bitch isn't it?

hmmmm.  why does this not surprize me?
it seems that many people doing the most public gay-bashing are
so-called "parents,"
of members of glbt community.

what  a wonderful way to show our sons nd daughters how to treat one
another iwith love and respect......by denying them their basic rights.

hi, mike & everyone else,

i've been through too much already today to let mike's "heads up" about my
offer to trade cd-rs with you to go by without a rebuttal.

mike doesn't know me, but those of you who have been around on this list for
a long time (and the lists & newsgroups that preceded it) know that i am a
reliable indigo girls trader whose only motive is to enjoy share amy and
emily's music.

many of you were involved in the first indigo girls tv appearances video
that i put together in early 1994.  a dozen or so of you sent me your vhs
tapes with ig appearances on local and national tv shows on them, and i
edited them onto one 2-hr tape, put down $1,000 of my own money to have 100
professionally-duplicated copies made, and distributed them to everyone who
asked for it for just $10 -- exactly what it cost me to have them made.  i
invested a lot of time and risked my own money in the interest of sharing
the music.

and i did it again a bit later with a great video of a 1994 indigo girls
show at the beacon theater.  same deal.  i spent my own money to have 100
copies made and distributed them at cost.

so despite mike's caveat, ask around you'll see that i've got an a+
reputation and that i've *never* tried to capitalize on someone else's labor
of love.  i've been around here too long and wouldn't have wanted someone to
do that to me.

so like i said in my last e-mail, if you want to trade, drop me a line.  and
if you haven't got anything to trade, lemme know and i'll try to help you
out.

peace.

i can't speak for the gay community, but whenever a child is part of a
minority group the parent is not , such as disabled, or, in other cases,
being gay, there is an inherent factor of parents' just not getting it. my
friends were often told "you don't alll want to associate with other
disabled people, you need to be mainstreamed , yadda yadda yadda..." nothing
against mainstreaming, but yeah it was not easy to be told "forget about
your disability and conform"

as for the anti disability part - it stuns me what parents of children with
disabilities can get away with (and this isn't an attack on all parents of
kids with disabilities, just the evil ones). the kelso family, a family in
the philadelphia suburbs, abandonded their kid with cerebral palsy (quck
definition of cp: makes your body extremely spastic, sometimes aking basic
activities of daily living impossible, i have a form of cp) the kelso's were
just given probation and supervised visits with their child, who has been at
the same hospital since he was dumped there 12/26/99... any other parent
would be in jail for doing that to a ten yr old. i could rant longer, but
i'll spare it on the list.
there are other signs too - placing their kids in non-community type
settings, group homes for people who are brillant and artistic - but to much
trouble for the family...

and yes, there may be a few lurkers on this list who will say i have no idea
what a burden a disabled child is...you are right - again this isn't every
parent - i actually think my mom did the best she could because she was
single, working and didn't have the resources to send me off to a special
school (or away to any school, we looked at private high schools, no luck)
but you know - for all that- i ended up going to college where my sister
did...

and if there are any disability advocates out there - please don't be too
offended - i'm not writing on a disability listserv... (and yes, the gov't
affairs chair of a group i belong to used to lurk for years on this lit -
upom telling her i was going to an ig show after a conference her first
lines were "shoot, i knew i wanted to ask someone for my first bootlegs - i
thought that mike r was you from the indigo girls list....

you laugh. it did happen at a major conference in 97.

mike r.

maybe, since the money is being made, they would like to be the ones who get
it. i don't think that is uncool, at all. this is their livelihood. why
shouldn't they get the profits instead of the so-called fans who obtain
autographed goods, then sell their stuff on ebay and elsewhere? i say more
power to them!

you know, i had a bit of concern when ig moved to artistdirect, which
represents a slew of other artists.  another fave of mine, aimee mann, has
signed up with them too (probably for their distribution more than
anything), but for the most part the list of artists they represent are a
who's who of the lame, commercial rock that the girls disdain (with some
notable exceptions).  so when i see this stuff:

>from: <newsletter@news.indigogirlsdirect.com>
>
>thanks to the quick response from all of you, we have sold out of the "12
>curfews" signed songbooks.  we will be carrying a regular supply of the
>songbooks shortly, but there is a very limited amount of the signed ones
>left, so hurry and get yours now!

i can't help but wonder what the hell is going on.  surely i am not the
only one who shakes her head at an *official* sale of autographed posters
for $50...

now, there's nothing wrong with getting whatever the market will bear for
their signatures (if they don't, someone else will). it's just that
somehow, it doesn't seem like them to reap such profits from their fans.

just my thoughts, ymmv.

hkf's,

(my two cents...)

i was just surfing a whole bunch of sites out there and came to a conclusion
related to all this.  i just ordered a long sleeve t-shirt from blues
traveler (who go through another company like artist direct - music today)
and out of the 10 websites i went to, only the grateful dead had their own
merchandising organization.  this reminded me when jerry passed away in 95
and the big question - should the dead be the dead without jerry? - also had
to deal with the enormous grateful dead family - the hundreds of employees
working for them and stuff like that.  basically they were illustrating how
big an organization the dead had become and therefore only the bands with
that kind of structure could realistically handle something like a
merchandising store, an online catalog and all of that.  so i think that
most bands out there, for distibution purposes and b/c it's a whole lot
cheaper & easier, go through other companies rather than run & maintain
their own mail-order operation.  some artists have small catalogs (gsw -
only a few items) while others have much larger catalogs.  actually, phish
also runs their own store but i think this is the exception rather than the
norm.

paul: "hey norm, how's the world been treating you?"
norm: "like a baby treats a diaper."

>all know how amy feels about them now.

i, for one, am very glad that they are not endorsing that concert. hrc is
just trying to get as many names as possible - not everyone on the list is
going to be performing. i know musicians who were asked to lend their names
to the list of celebrities for the concert, and when they were refused, were
told "but it would be so good for you to be seen here." not that hrc would
love their support, not that its important for the cause, not even "good for
you to be heard here"...it would benefit your career to be *seen* here.
yuck. this whole thing reeks of commercialism. the musicians who have my
respect have it because they realize where the true progress is being made.

speaking of which, one way of combatting the knight initiative is to make
sure that the numbers affected by such legislation are known. ngltf is
launching a campaign to educate people about the census. from yesterday's
release, the short version of which is: make sure you fill out your census
when it arrives this month, and mark "unmarried partner" to be counted as a
same-sex couple.

from ngltf census press release:
"this campaign has one simple message: our families exist and we must be
counted," said paula ettelbrick, family policy director of the national gay
and lesbian task force policy institute. "the u.s. census tracks changes
in american family structures. over the last ten years our community has
had a major impact in changing family policies, from domestic partnership to

second parent adoption. it's time that we include our families in
the official count."...
the "make your family count" campaign is seeking donated ad space and
air time from media outlets with large glbt audiences. the campaign urges
same-sex couples living in the same household to mark the 'unmarried
partners'
option when asked to describe their relationships. the forms will be mailed
to every household in the united states in march and april. the campaign
has also launched a website, http://www.wecount.org, with information about
the census and guidance to glbt couples on answering the census forms.

"the census will provide us with a gold mine of information.  we will have a

statistical picture of same-sex households by racial composition, where they

live, and how many children they have," said dr. lee badgett, director of
the
institute for gay and lesbian strategic studies. "the census tracks changes
in families in the u.s.  our families deserve to be counted so that the
full diversity of the american family can be reflected and presented
to policy makers."

"all public policy flows from the u.s. census," ettelbrick explained.
"if we are not counted, we lose out on federal funding for research,
funding for community services and passage and implementation of laws
that benefit our community. we also sacrifice important opportunities
for more equitable political representation of our community."
ettelbrick added that information collected by the census will lay the
statistical foundation critical in demonstrating the need for domestic
partnership benefits, funding for community services, and passage of
policies that reflect the needs of glbt families and their children.
"while legislation in states like vermont, new hampshire and
massachusetts has moved in our favor, we are seeing a definite backlash
to our efforts through passage of laws blocking marriage and adoption
in other states like utah, california and arkansas," said ettelbrick.
"the census count will allow us to break through the rhetoric and show
dispassionately that hundreds of thousands of same-sex couples already
share committed relationships and are raising children. these families
need the same resources and recognition as any other family."

in 1990, the category of "unmarried partner" first appeared on the
census form. approximately 150,000 households self-reported as
same-sex unmarried partners - a severe undercount compounded by the
u.s. census bureau's disqualification of same-sex couples who marked
"spouse" to describe their relationship.

according to badgett, the bureau considered such a response to be
a mistake because it is legally impossible for same-sex couples to marry.
"this year, the census bureau has indicated that it will simply
re-categorize the answers from "spouse" to "unmarried partner" so
that the data is not lost," said badgett.

according to the 1990 census, 75 percent of american families no longer
reflect traditional definitions of families, consisting of a married
heterosexual couple with children under 18. unmarried couples comprised
approximately 4.5 million families, a 400 percent increase since
1970. this figure reflects the rapidly changing family unit.

to date the census bureau has not included a question about sexual
orientation. gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people not
living with someone of the same sex whom they consider to be an
unmarried partner will not be visibly counted. however, a large
enough count of same-sex households, with or without children, could help
substantially in future efforts to be included in the census count.
for each same-sex couple that describes their relationship as being
"unmarried partners" on the census short form, researchers will be able
to determine the racial, housing, age and demographic mix of same-sex
households, as well as the number of children in the household. for the
one-sixth of households that will receive the census long form,
researchers also will be able to determine education, citizenship
and income, among other things.

they normally would? is artistdirect somehow better.

regardless of one's marital status, it's important to fill out the census form,
anyway.  for starters, it's manditory. not filling it out is a federal offense.
second, it's the only measuring device that the government uses to allocate
funds for everything from schools to highways to public parks.

it's a shame that there's no accurate reflection of one's sexual orientation on
the census form, but the entire process is less about gathering demographic
information (although that's done too) and is more about simply counting people.

i think you have a good point, jess...
what bothers me is that i am part of a committed lesbian couple but it
appears that i cannot indicate that on my census form because i currently do
not live with my wife.  i live in philly and am attending graduate school
there while my wife lives in cincinnati.  yes, i do alot of flying!*g*  to
make it even more complicated i use the state of maine for my official
residency.  is there a minimum number of days per year that i have to live

i'm sure they will throw the millions of homeless and non-white people into
the slammer for not filling out the census...

the census is a very poor attempt to count everyone. i would support
sampling but guess who is against that idea? the nasty repubs who might lose
their tenuous grip on power if all the minorities and homeless were counted.
after all, what have they done to help these groups out?

did anyone watch west wing last night? it was a rerun on this very issue.
very interesting items that could be brought up for discussion here... of
course, my power went out right in the middle of it...

hi all. sorry for the nigc... just wondering if anyone out there has
seen this movie + can tell me a bit about it. in the review i read, it
was mentioned there is a graphic + brutal rape scene. i was going to go
with my gf to this movie on the upcoming weekend, but she's the survivor
of childhood rape/abuse + has been going through hell lately, and i am
afraid that these scenes could be triggering for her. if anyone has
input on this that could help me make an informed call, please reply
privatly. thanks...

i cannot make it to the re-scheduled university of chicago show on march
30. i have 4 tickets available. they are faculty tickets, which means
they cost $25 each. i'd prefer to sell them all at once. so, if you need
four tickets, e-mail me...

i was just wondering who else on the list feels as if this is the most
intense movie they have ever seen.  i saw it when i was visiting my g/f in
nyc and it really got to me.  i don't think i've ever felt as much as i did
in this movie.  it was a very well-made, directed, and acted movie.  those
actors and actresses all could have been the real people.  this movie is so
deserving of oscars all over the place.  if anyone is lucky enough to see it,
i strongly suggest it.

i live in alabama and it's coming here later this month!  so, if it's coming
to alabama, everyone else all over the country should be able to see it, too!

oh, definitely.  several friends and i agreed that it was probably the
hardest movie we've ever had to watch; when a friend and i went to go see
it, we sat in the theater in completely stunned silence until the lights
came back up.  we got back to the car, looked at each other, and asked,
"are you okay?"  "yeah, i'll be okay, i think."  "are you sure?"  "yeah.
are you going to be okay?"

just . . . wow.  it was . . . gods, the impact.

hey y'all,

i had won tix for the u of chicago show, but i can't use them b/c i need to be somewhere on the 30th.  so i e-mailed the dude asking if i could transfer them to the eku show the following date.  he said no.  so then, i figured if i can't use them, then someone who loves the girls should, so i e-mailed the dude again asking if i could give the tix to a friend (or listmember).  again he said no.  his reasoning... "that's rock n' roll."  how lame!  anyway, i really want someone on this list to be able to use them (some poor chicagoian or midwesterner w/o tix).  the only thing i can possibly think of is if someone goes to the box office and gives them my name.  maybe they won't check id?  who knows.  anyway, if anyone else has any other ideas (short of sending my id to someone or getting a fake.  sorry.  won't go that far.) please let me know.  i feel that unless another obsessed ig fan uses them, then whata waste!

grrrrr,
karen

ps- if anyone gets any more info. on the eku show, lemme know.  i am going to try to go to that one...

it finally dawned on me that during the big hissy fit
over foul language on the list, karen's .sig was
completely overlooked. i found this momentarily
amusing.

i was writing something for 'epinions.com' the other
day and after i had finished it displayed this notice
is scary red letters that i had to erase some
objectionable language it had found. underlined in
bold was the word

"wuss"

i surrupticiously changed it to "w-u-s-s" and it
slipped through the mighty fingers of the electronic
etiquette police.

i really really really want to obtain a list of all
the words and phrases they consider objectionable...

it's a great movie, one worth seeing--but the violence is extreme and
brutal. if it's a difficult time for your girlfriend, i would advise
against seeing it right now. perhaps see it when she is feeling more
together or the night before she goes to therapy (if she does)--otherwise,
at least wait till it's out on video and you can turn it off and hold
eachother and stuff if needed.

i loved boys dont cry.  i highly recommend that everyone go see it, there is
so much in it to think about.  its a very sweet love story too, though it is
hard to watch.  and yes there is an awful (as opposed to what?) rape scene in
it, so be prepared for that.
but yes hilary swank and chloe sevigny (who also played the pretty
unconvincing but cute butch in the recent hbo thing, if these walls could
talk 2) were both amazing.

oh and wasnt implying that i would refuse to fill out my census.  i am happy
to do it and i see the benefits, i just wish i could be counted as a lesbian,
too.

hey folks,

this article is taken from sydney publication "lesbians
on the loose"...

-sherlyn

---begin article
indigo girls
upfront down under

it was hearing an early version of "ghost" on the shores of
rhode island in 1991 that left me smitten and stalking every
record store in new england for an entire year until emily
saliers and amy ray finally put me out of my misery and
released it on "rites of passage".  over the indigo girls'
fifteen year career, they have served up essential
ingredients for lesbian cd collections and girl buskers
worldwide.  the georgia pair delight audiences with their
acoustic driven guitar folk, heartfelt lyrics and lush
harmonies.  emily saliers talked to lotl from new york,
perched on the brink of their third australian tour.

-- how do you cope with the intensity of over a decade of
writing, performing and touring together? --

we've been friends for a long, long time.  we've been
working together for 20 years, we have plenty of space, and
plenty of time together.  in georgia, i won't see amy
sometimes for a month.  we talk when we have business stuff
to do, we chat, but we don't really have any social thing
at all.

-- did john reynolds' background as a drummer influence
the overall sound of "come on now social"? --

he's so focussed on the rhythm section, that a lot of
things were cut to time.  also, he knows a lot of
musicians and has a whole world music vibe about him, he
brought a lot of that to us.

-- has your audience changed over the years? --

it's expanded.  it's a pretty good mix, probably more
women than men, straight and gay.  more and more it's a
younger audience which is great, plus older folks who've
been with us for a long time.  our gay following has been
very strong through the years, especially at the beginning.
it's stronger than ever, and we really appreciate that.

-- you've worked with an amazing array of characters on the
album and in your career, is there anyone you still aspire
to work with, or anything you'd still like to
accomplish? --

it'd be fun to work with joni mitchell sometime, or maybe
i'll just go on idolising her music for the rest of my
life.  we've met so many great musicians along the way and
i'm sure that'll continue to happen.  rather than making a
wishlist, i think i'll just wait and be pleasantly
surprised.

we'll continue our grassroots activism, and to grow as
songwriters.  we'll be doing some solo projects.  amy's
working on a solo project right now, and i'll probably do
one as well.  we'll just do things to inspire us
individually so we can continue to work together.

i work for one of the help line call centers for the census 2000.
everything on the form is referenced around april 1, 2000.  so if you are
living with her on april 1, you can count it.  but since both of you have
separate residences (correct?) most likely, you cannot put her on your
form.

this census stuff gets really confusing (and boring).

census note!!

for those of you in "live-in" or domestic relationships (glbt and/or
straight): when filling out the us census be sure to be counted by
marking the category unmarried partner. this is one way how the census is
recognizing glbt and other "untraditional" households.  please be sure to
make the notation and spread the word.  the category has not received
much press, so please pass this information on.  knowledge is power!

spent on something more activism-related,'' said student eloise nelson, 20.

no matter. the spitfire tour, now in its third season, seems to be formed
around celebrity passions as much as delivering a coherent message.

former mtv veejay kennedy spoke out for privatizing social security and
legalizing drugs. she called herself a republican but also an ''18th century
liberal.''

former nirvana bassist krist novoselic talked about his own political
activism, and of witnessing the november riots at the world trade
organization meeting in seattle.

''the nonviolent political organizers made the greatest impact on the wto
marches,'' he said. ''indeed, it was a victory for democracy.''

co-created by rage against the machine's zack de la rocha, the spitfire tour
began in 1998 to fight apathy on college campuses.

the tour doesn't carry a single message. instead, celebrities talk about
issues that concern them personally, and how they got involved.

this year's tour features amy ray of the indigo girls on human rights, andy
dick on drug abuse, rap artist ice t on censorship and actor woody harrelson
on the environment.

for the past two years - including a performance at woodstock '99 - the
entourage had been met with open arms.

that wasn't exactly the case at reed.

some students grilled panelists about why they agreed to a tour that has a
corporate sponsor - an internet textbook seller. a large banner that featured
the web site's name hung over the living-room-style stage where performers
sat.

''i don't want the corporate media thing thrust upon us,'' said sam donald,
21. ''i don't like being advertised to.''

tour organizer sarah hynes said the crowd's reaction caught them by surprise.

''it was the most brutal audience we've ever had,'' she said.

the tour will appear in 20 cities including those in west virginia, illinois,
missouri and ohio.

there is no reason to believe that; items for hte were clearly designated
as such.  and the "collectibles" section exists for almost every artist in
their program, none of them are affiliated with hte.  some items are
donations (like tori amos for rainn), but those items are always noted as
profiting that charity.

>also a question. i was under the impression that

they make more money just by having a better organization.  how many times
have we heard complaints about the dearth of information coming out of rcam
(russell carter artist management)?  with ad, there is a steady stream of
news and product because you have an organization devoted to that
task.  i'm sure ad takes a nice cut, but because more product is being
moved the artist probably still makes more money.

indigo girl goes under the knife

amy ray underwent appendectomy surgery over the weekend in
chicago, forcing the indigo girls to reschedule several australian
tour dates.

while performing the operation, doctors came across a cyst in her
ovaries, which was also removed. according to the duo's official
web site, the singer is "recovering quickly."

new down under dates have yet to be announced, though there is a
possibility that the girls will head that way in may. they will play
several u.s. acoustic dates, kicking off at the university of chicago
march 30, and will also appear on the spitfire tour.

rick's provider (indy.net) is refusing mail from your provider (delta.edu)

now, there's no excuse for rick to be keeping your cds because of his own

reviews yet.

this is where you all come into play. if you'd like to send in a review or

the site is tres basic now, but i hope to put a little work into it and
make it a useful resource for all of us.

okay, that's all i have to say right now. since this is nigc, private

this message was posted to the doria roberts message board:

hey everybody--

a message about my show at agnes scott college next saturday march 18th...

elizabeth griffin was a fan of mine and graduate of agnes scott. she
pre-ordered "restoration" when i was trying to raise money to finish the
project. beth died before i had a chance to finish "restoration" in a highly
publicized accident. she worked with an animal testing (?) program at yerkes
university and was splashed with herpes b virus infected fluid from a primate.

when i saw the headlines i was haunted by her name for weeks. i knew that i
knew her but i couldn't place it. i went to my mailing list and there she
was. i finally got in touch with her mother and told her my cd was on its way
and that beth was one of a few people who helped me realize my dream.

beth came to a lot of my shows and left some encouraging messages from time
to time. i never knew her personally (just casually like i know many of you)
but her not being able to hear my cd has really stuck with me...

when i was invited to play @ agnes scott i asked if we could somehow make a
donation to the scholarship fund in beth's name since she had been a student
there. here's what we decided:

the cover for non-agnes scott students will be $2 (free for agnes scott
students only). half of that will go into beth's fund. feel free to
contribute more. it might not be a lot of money but i feel compelled to make
any contribution i can to keep her name alive and to honor the generosity she
displayed to keep my dreams alive.

it should be a great show (the whole band will be there!!). it's all ages and
i go on at 9:00pm. the location details will arrive via e-mail and will be
posted at this site.

thanks everybody! hope to see you...

hey everyone:

just thought i'd try to lighten the day for some of you who are in the
same position as me - having your heart set on taking a little road trip
on a saturday to see the girls only to find out it's a private show (purchase).

well, as i'm sitting in my cube wallowing in self-pitty, i get an email
from my brother in virginia telling me he's running the boston marathon in april
and wants to see the redsox game on the 15th - the day of the manhattenville
show.  so, i call  my husband to tell him that i would get tickets for both of
them.  my husband (who  doesn't know my brother that well) said, "wait
a minute, you're coming too".  i said, "oh no honey, that's my day of mourning".
he says "for all the traffic jams and days i've sat for 15 hours with you in
searing
sun to see 'your girls', you owe me.  of course, that's true, and i do owe him.
so, i guess i'm going to the game.   now, most of you don't know me, but some
of you have seen me.  you can take  one good look at me and know that baseball
is just  not my thing. but, that's what relationships are about - compromise
(amy's
song keeps runnning through my head).

then hubby says this will make me feel better to get  out and enjoy a game.  i
ask
you, how does a baseball game  replace an accoustic show with the girls?  ooooh
the humanity!!

take care
cathy (who is praying for another boston area show and hanging by a thread
for newport)

hey folks,

i just got off the phone with ticketmaster and the canberra
theatre ticket office - unfortunately the status of the ig
australian tour has been changed from "postponed" to
"cancelled".  according to the canberra folks, this is
because they "couldn't find a date that suited them" (fair
enough at such short notice i guess).

refunds for melbourne and sydney tickets which were bought
over the phone or online can be obtained by sending your
tickets to ticketmaster at gpo box 762g, melbourne vic 3001.
make sure your confirmation number's included with the
tickets.  refunds for tickets bought at box offices can be
obtained at point of sale only.

refunds for canberra tickets will be applied to credit cards
shortly, apparently - no need to send your tickets back...

-sherlyn

ps - if i bought and gave you tickets for any shows, could
you get them back to me, thanks... paolo, i'll dig up the
melbourne tickets for you too...

musicmusicmusic.  yum.

3/14 ann arbor-- dan bern at the ark.  either free or really darn cheap.
dan is folkpunk and hilarious and yanked me onstage the last time i saw him
(which i guess none of you were there to see but was recorded on tape
somewhere.)  let's see if i can coerce my way up under the bright lights
again.  heh.  http://www.a2ark.org for more show info.  http://www.dbhq.com
for more bern info.

3/16 ann arbor-- acoustic bus tour (ani difranco, greg brown, gillian welch,
all unplugged) at hill auditorium. i'm sure tickets are pricy, as ani "gimme
more money" d. is on the bill.  but gillian welch would be worth the price
alone.  gushgushgush.  734/763-8587.

3/23 cleveland-- melissa ferrick at the grog shop (on coventry in cleve
hts.)  216/321-5588.  not sure how much, but the last time she played, it
was $8.  this was the woman who had crowds screaming and swooning at her
guitar smacking at newport this summer, and there's been quite a
gushing-type buzz about her on the roselist.  she also wrote me a lovely
poem about a persimmon at my request, so i've got a weird little spot in my
heart for her.  as i have for anyone who can contrive so sexual a poem from
fruit.

3/23 columbus-- toshi reagon at little brother's (1100 n. high st.), 9pm.
$10 adv (tm)/ $12 door.  toshi is folk and funk and blues and jazz and
smooth as all get out.  toshi trivia:  she's the daughter of bernice johnson
reagon, one of the lovely ladies of sweet honey in the rock.

and if you said you wanted to read my paper on sexual fluidity, i've got
your name and address saved.  i've also got the paper saved-- on my computer
back home.  hang on, i'll send it to you soon.

smooches--

i've been on list for around 4 months or so now.  it's funny because i never
ever listened to the indigo girls until my best friend was so upset that she
couldn't get a hold of a song by them.  so, as she is a dear dear friend of
mine, i wanted to try my best to find this for her since i'm pretty good at
finding things on the web.  i came across a website by neil.  (thanks, neil,
although i know you don't remember me!!)  he suggested i join the list
thinking i was a fan.  so i joined the list.  while i was trying to hunt
down this song ("sweet melissa" by the way), i thought, "what does maggie
like so much about this band?"  so i decided to listen to a few songs by
them to satisfy my curiosity.  well, i don't have to tell you guys what
happened since that day forward. i am in love with the indigo girls and
their music like i've never been about any other music in my life.  i thank
my friend, maggie, and neil for suggesting i join.  my life has been changed
by their music.  this might sound crazy, but since i joined  and since i've
been listening to the girls.....my blood pressure went down considerably!
it was pretty high before them!  pretty funny.  i know it probably means
nothing, but i like to believe it does.  their music relaxes me and makes me
feel great!  my four year old loves them, too, since i constantly play them
in my car.  his favorite is "chickenman"!!

just want to say thanks to all of you for being so great and opening your
hearts so honestly!  you and the i.g. changed my life for the better!

actually the tickets for the harrisburg show were about $30 with
ticketbastard charges - and that doesn't strike me as all that expensive,
but maybe that's just me.  i've paid around that and sometimes less, for
ani...and i don't think she's all about the money - never has been in my
view.  i think if she got to the point of people like barbara streisand
(wonderful singer - i know that) where they are charging hundreds of
dollars yadda yadda - then i think we could call her all about the
money...but $30?  *hrm* hardly.

just my $30 *plinks a whole bunch of change down*

since a few have asked here's the scoop on:  charlotte center city fest is
an annual event that eats up most of downtown charlotte.  a portion of the
event is artists and good eats, however the larger venue is music.  several
(i think there were 7 last year)stages set up from morning until late at
night for three days.  it is a rocking great time.  there are a few local
and regional artists and bands (laburnum, jump little children, big head
todd, leisure mccorkle) as well as much more well known musicians.

i've been for the last four years.  i live 3 minutes from the city.  the
girls are coming and i am absolutely besides myself.  because....i get lots
of free tickets and backstage passes to the event! ohmygod.  i can tell you
that lots of musicians roam the crowds unnoticed.  it's a tres kewl event.

tickets run @ $20 for the entire event.  weekend passes are available. you
can purchase them at the gate although i believe a better price can be had
with a pre=purchase.  price of food and beer can get ridiculously pricey.
parking can be a hassle, but people are coming and going all day.  local
music shops sell music and accessories for the bands playing.

there's a really tight lesbian community here and fromt he calls i've
gotten, everyone is clearing space on their calendar to be there.  i don't
have the times yet for when is playing, however, i know the guy and his team
the organizes the music end of the events and i've been assured an early
program.

email me privately if you need any additional information. oh yeah, wear
comfortable shoes.

hey,

i just called the number that the website gave.

anyway, the person i talked to did not know what was up.  he's not sure if you must buy your tickets in person or if they can mail them.  he told me to call back at 2.  at 2 i'll be in class.

so i am asking, begging... if someone is near richmond, ky, or will be going to get their own tickets, would you please pick me up one?  i'll pay you back (dah!) and pay for s/h.

thanks.

:-) karen

just to throw in my 2 cents here....

my ani/gillian/greg tickets for hill auditorium in ann arbor were $28
including ticketmaster fees.  just for comparision, my ig tix for eastern in
were $22.50 before ticketmaster fees, i believe they were right around $28
after.  of course, i'll be sitting in the front row for ani/gillian/greg and
i was in the second seating level for the ig.  if i'd wanted better seats i
would've had to jump up to the next price level, which i believe was $35.
but i am looking very forward to the ani/gillian/greg concert.  hill is a
wonderful venue, and even though i'm not very familiar with gillian or greg,
i've heard nothing but good things about the first few shows.

amy ray (right) of the indigo girls is enjoying an unscheduled vacation
this week. and the decatur singer-songwriter only had to endure an
emergency appendectomy
to get it.

the duo's 10-day tour of australia has been temporarily shelved as ray
continues to heal from the procedure, performed after a show late last
month at the house of
blues in chicago. "she did the show, but she was feeling pretty lousy,"
manager russell carter told buzz on monday. "they admitted her right
away, and they were able
to take care of it. she's fine now."

time was on ray's side, carter says. if she had waited, the duo would
have been en route to the land down under the next day.

ray and fellow indigo girl emily saliers are due back on the road at the
end of this month for a six-week college campus tour. the pair's series
of summer engagements
kicks off june 2 and 3 in atlanta, with two shows scheduled for chastain
park amphitheatre.

anyone want to help? please? i would be forever indebted. thank you thank

hi

this was at http://www.mrlady.com/news.html:

"on may 2nd we will release a full length debut cd by tami hart titled no light in august.
she has a spilt 7" on our label with the band rubéo and a song on a comp we recently put out
(the new women's music sampler) that garnered so much attention we had to give the
people more. recorded by chris stamey this debut will feature guest musicianship from
members of the butchies and backing vocals by amy ray and kaia. by way of introduction,
tami hart is 19 years old, grew up in beaufort south carolina and currently lives in durham
north carolina."

i have the new women's music sampler and it kicks my ass--it's a great introduction for
anyone interested in exploring dykegrrl music outside the mainstream.  some of it's punk,
some of it's dulcet-voiced folk, all good and all queer.  check it out at http://www.mrlady.com.
tami hart's voice is so damn pretty, i know you ig fans would have no problem crossing over
to her style.

luv,
