hkf's,
i am going to agree with megan, i always thought it was refering to west side
story.
there are a couple of 'other song' illudtions.
"....and she's singing 'hey la, my boyfriends back!'" from some '60's song
"there's a place for us....." from somewhere
so i've always thought the movie west side story.
the franco zeffirelli version, is that a musical?
love the list

i can't help but see how this song's lyrics so relate to the anti
sweatshop movement. i haven't done any research on this song and its
history, but i can almost see how it could endorse the fight against
sweatshops. but there're a couple of lines that i can't place:
"you defend exume begin again,
it's a riddle of a skeleton."
consequently, when i saw them perform this in dallas, i almost knocked
out some girl b/c my arms and my body was flailing all over. this is by
far my favorite song live so far (only seen them twice).

<<now she's singing 'hey la, my boyfriend's

well first off that is a 60's song, and i can see
why people see the allusion to that song. i see
beyond that, because at first that's sort of what juliette was saying to
romeo. her father had arranged for her to be married off. the families
were celebrating the wedding arrangement by having a dance, and that's
where romeo and juliette meet for the first time. that's my take.

now, i ain't no geography expert, but how can amy being heading out of
alabama and then be heading down to georgia? these states are right next
to each other east to west, west to east.
and is she talking about herself in the first stanza? "why you come
undone everytime you go there" obviously whoever the subject is has been
somewhere where some people "lack" some stuff. by the way, i think
"coming undone" and then getting it together is a common theme in amy's
lyrics, which is why i love them so much.
and how come we can barely hear the background voices at 3:50?
also, i'm getting so excited about the liner notes and the new releases
coming in october. i'm crazy. but you know what? i have no idea what
songs they're putting on that record. y'all know? i really don't care,
i'll probably just buy it to see pictures and have liner notes from
famous people writing about my fun igs. also, i need to get strange fire
when they re-release those 3 cd's together later b/c i haven't owned
strange fire since like 6 years ago. i had to get rid of it b/c
everytime i'd listen to it, my voice would get strained b/c of singing to
it so loud. for some reason no other cd does that to me. oh my god, i'm
allergic to strange fire.

<<the franco zefirelli version. is that a musical?>>
no. but if you've seen any of his works, he's very melodramatic and
lyrical. and the movie begins with a dance scene at juliette's, and
there's a minstrel who has a solo. it foreshadows the end,"so dies
youth, so dies the fairest maid." i think shakespeare gave
the minstrel the solo, and that franco zefirelli hired someone to
rewrite the melody, but the words are the same as in the play.
shakespeare gave the fool a solo at the end of twelth night or as you
like it called "when that i was a little tiny boy."

well, sometimes "down" as well as "up" are used as way to describe
travel...my grandmother always claims we come "up" from maine to
massachusetts (take a look at a map and picture that) and i always say
down, even when my friends from further south come to see me. also, if
alabama and georgia are side by side, they are still big states. she could
have been heading from a northern part of alabama to a more southerly
point of georgia.
the fact that i'm taking time to reason this out makes my teeth ache.

having never been to either state i don't know, but is elevation a
question? we utahn's go "down" to the great salt lake, e.g., because it's
lower. one goes "down" to the valley and "up" the canyon, no?

there's an unopened wooden-case 12,00 curfews set up on ebay with
less than 7 hours to go, and it's currently at $24.51. that's below
whatever reserve price the seller has set, but if the reserve is twice
that you're still getting a good deal. if you're into collecting, that is
- otherwise it's just a reeeally expensive cd set.

as an english major who suffered (i admit it - i don't think shakespear
deserves as much emphasis as college lit programs place on him, i love his
work but to make it required in a creative writing concentration, ever hear
of experimental literature, wac stats - that's literature! i digress..)
as a guy with a english degree - i always assumed it was west side story -
the other play would be too obscure.

arrgh. i am trying to decide whether or not to go see ig in montana. i
live in seattle and the only possible would be the sat night in
billings.
anyone from seattle going? i have a free milage airline ticket thing so
it wouldn't cost me too much, but i'm out of vacation time due to an
actual vacation the third week of sept. amym whats the scoop on tickets?
what is the shrine and any idea if its general admission? i'm definitely
not going to travel that far for a reserved seating show.
on another note, i work for a community college and our media person put
together a multi-media presentation room in what was/is our little
theater.
my boss urged all of us to check it out, so i took my watershed dvd
over there and had myself a little private concert. big screen. loud.
awesome fun. i wish some of you could have been there to share it with.
i will have to make another visit when the live dvd comes out.

ok, i got the live webcast thing going. (wow, this is my first time. i am

anyway, i am *attempting* to record the thing onto md. but as of now, i
don't have any way to transfer md to tape or md or even another md (to copy
it for people with an md player). anyway, maybe next time when i go to

copies. if anyone has any suggestions, i am open for that, though. ya know,
i am really impared when it comes to technology, so maybe there is a way that

just an idea
i use a minidisc recorder a lot...and just wanted to throw some info out
there. one good way to share songs is using mp3's. if you have a minidisc
recorder/player and want to make mp3's out of the songs, you need to do two
steps:
1. record to wav on your pc (this means hooking up the minidisc to the line
in on your sound card and using software like total recorder (available at
download.com) to make wav files out of the different tracks. someone else
on the list recommended this method to me and i use it a lot.
2. once in wav format, you can use a program like realjukebox (available at
real.com) or audio catalyst (at xing.com) to convert the wav files to mp3
files. you can then post the mp3's somewhere, email them, record them to
cdr, etc.
also, if anyone wanted to make normal audio cd's out of mp3 files, there are
now many software utilities out there that will do that.
my 2 cents,
brian ; )

they're starting spitfire tour in murfreesboro, tennessee? i went to
high school there and it was weird. i can 't imagine jello biafra in
murfreesboro, tn. but, i did hear his spoken word for the first time
when i was 15 in a small cabin on a farm in the middle of murfreesboro.
it was an experience. hey, do any of you remember the movie "fisher
king"? remember cloud busting? yeah, we did that in murfreesboro a lot
b/c we were against cow tipping. we were dead kennedys fans who liked to
strip. this was when i loved ig secretly of course, right after "rites
of passage" came out.

subject: montana hte ticket info...
mime-version: 1.0

hey y'all,
here's all the info i have on the hte shows...
billings 9/30
tickets are currently on sale. order by calling 1-800-366-8538. prices are
$35 for reserved, $30 for general admission, plus a $2 handling fee. i
don't know if that's per ticket or just a one time thing. apparently, the
seating on the floor is reserved. bleacher seating is general admission.
show is at 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m. no cameras, recording equipment,
blah blah blah.
great falls 10/2
tickets go on sale friday, sept. 8. they can be ordered by calling
(406) 454-0157. i couldn't find a toll-free number. you can also order by
mail at: great falls civic center
attn: events office
p.o. box 5021
great falls, mt 59403 if you do that, make sure to tell what
event you're ordering for, how many tix you want, return address, phone
number, and of course, money. i believe all ticket prices are $35.50, plus
$2 handling fee. this *is* a one time deal, not a per ticket thing. i'm
assuming reserved seating, since it's in the civic center theater, which
is a real theater. but, i'm not sure about that.
bozeman 10/3
tickets on sale thursday, sept. 7. order by calling (406) 994-2287. again,
no toll-free number to speak of. and, i don't know the ticket prices for
this one. apparently, this is all reserved seating. the show is at brick
breeden fieldhouse, which is a...fieldhouse. i sort of thought there might
not be seating on the floor, just general admission standing, but the
website (vootie.com) says advanced reserve seating.
missoula 10/4
tickets on sale friday, sept. 8. order by calling 1-888-montana. i don't
know about ticket prices. the show is at the adams event center and if
they do it like they did last time, it will be general admission standing
on the floor and (i think) reserved bleacher seating. although, when
bonnie raitt came here, they had reserved seating on the floor as well.
if anyone really wants to know more about the specifics (i.e.
reserved/general seating, ticket prices, show times etc), let me know and
i'll let you know when i find out more.
also, if anyone is planning on coming to any of the shows, let me know.
i'd love to meet anyone who is coming.

it's also available at www.indigogirlsdirect.com (or go to www.indigogirls.com / store) for 11.99.
i know i can buy it from cdnow for 11.98 but for some reason it feels better for me to buy it from indigogirlsdirect... i got the impression that ig in some way benefits from that. maybe i'm wrong?

hello all of you wonderful indigo girl fans. i am april, from florence al
and wanted you all to know so that when i become vocal in this group you
don't say "who the hell"...:) anyways, i was skimming through marie claire
and saw an ad for "women rock---girls & guitars" that will be aired on
lifetime october 22nd. it is a "special star studded concert" that will
benefit breast cancer awareness. it says to stay tuned on lifetime for the
celeb lineup, and in the meantime sign on the lifetimetv.com to sign the
pledge to stop breast cancer. just maybe our girls will be on there. we can
cross our fingers! so who all is going to the oct 28th atlanta show?
nice to meet y'all ;)

according to the link you provided us, if you click on "add to cart"
you'll see that the item is on backorder with no date of availablity.
i don't believe it is out yet, it's not available at
www.indigogirlsdirect.com either it's on backorder there too.

i checked with my local hmv store here in boston
and the video will be in that store on sept. 5. i thought
it was sept. 1. oh well, another 4 days won't kill me.
btw, is anyone planning to travel to atlanta in october
for earth challenge? i'm not able to go to any of the hte
benefits so i figure that's my last show with our girls for
a while (oh, the sadness). i don't know much about the line-up but i do know
that it will be a full set by the girls (hence, my decision to fly
out there).
if you're planning to go, you can email me privately.
happy thursday
cathy (who is still waiting for her cbrc single - maybe today?)
