hmmm - california?

. . . sitting in a park in paris france, reading the news and it sure
looks bad . . .

or

last time i saw richard:

. . . all romantics meet the same fate some day.  cynical and drunk and
boring someone in some dark cafe . . .

these are the two with i can think of with the words "sitting" and
"cafe".  but of course it could be anything.

officially foia stands for freedom of information act, which is a rule
which forces the gov't to disclose certain types of records and files
upon request by the press, citizens, voters, etc. b/c of ongoing nat'l
security issues, not all gov't docs are subject fo foia, but many are,
especially after an extended period of time. i assume that that's what
amy means by including the acronym in the title of the song, since in
some article i read or interview i heard (forgive me, i don't remember
the source), amy talked about how information received through foia
requests first revealed the extent of environmental damage and
exploitation that had taken place at pt. hope, ak, and that even at the
time the mining began, the gov't had been quite aware of the potentially
harmful and toxic effects that mining would have on local workers and
the land, it still continued to pursue and encourage the industry.

i'm sorry i can't provide any more specific details, and if i've
misstated any information, i sure hope someone will correct me!

no apologies necessary!!!! the whole review was a pleasure to read, and
i'm sure many others like me are grateful for your account, since
geography and remoteness prevents us from being able to catch the hte
tour, and through your experience, we get at least a little taste of
what the concerts are like! so, for all you listees who are lucky enough
to attend the other hte shows in the coming weeks, please keep the
reports coming, i eagerly await to hear from you!
thanks!

that not everyone loves and worships the girls like we do ?!!*#?!
i don't know if y'all are as shocked as i am, but i found this out the
hard way recently, when four of my alleged friends backed out of the
indigo girls concert at wvu in morgantown, wv on 10/22- claiming that
they had more important things to do!!! can you believe it? i mean what
could be better or more important than an ig concert? needless to say, i
am completely perplexed, but, as a result of their inexplicible
decision, i now have four extra tickets to the show! the show is on a
sunday, the seats are decent (row h, seats 1, 3, 5, and 7- amy's side, i
think!), and michelle malone is opening!!!! if you or anyone you know is
interested in taking advantage of the wonderful concert experience my
unenlightened friends are passing up, email me privately for more info.
the face value of each ticket is $35 + stupid tm fees (which i'll
ignore), however, i'm definitely willing to negotiate! so please, please
contact me if you can use any or all of the seats!!!! thanks y'all!

marian- who's currently re-evaluating a certain four friendships!!! :)

hey y'all,
i'm wondering if anyone has any info on the georgia
clean energy festival on the 28th.  all i know is that
it's at olympic park and on the 28th....don't know
what time it starts or where you go when you get there
or anything.  i plan to stay for the whole thing, but
i'd also like to know the order of the bands and stuff
(if they even announce it ahead of time) and
approximately what time the indigo girls will be
playing, if it's possible to find that out.  i haven't
been able to locate any phone numbers to call for info
or anything, so if anyone in atlanta (or anyone that
knows how to find things better than me) has any info
or even a number i could call, that would be great!

thanks,
sharon

that's it! thanks, dan! i feel a little more sane now. before she did this
song in bozeman, she told a story about how she was a struggling
songwriter sitting on her bed writing about 100 songs a day and she heard
this song and she couldn't believe that someone could write a song like
that. which i found somewhat ironic because the first ig song i ever heard
was power of 2 from the boys on the side soundtrack. and i was lying on my
bed and was completely dumbfounded when the song came on. it's strange how
seemingly meaningless events can completely change your life.

not 5th.  thanks carla!!!  much better than my sucky f#m on 2nd fret!!!
but, i do think that the key of d sounds better b/c of the bass part.  so

goes?

try c, d, em, c for the chorus, i think that's right (although i am hampered
in these efforts because our capo has been lost) otherwise, i think it was
(mostly) a case of same chords, different capo :o)

hey y'all,

i thought i'd share my joyous (hehe) trip to the grocery store story.
anyway, i walked in and they were playing (instead of the usual muzik)
michelle malone's "wild horses!"  of course, some super annoying mariah
carrey song followed michelle, but it was still joyous...for a moment.

hello all, just a quick question for you.  i was wondering if there was a
way to put mp3's onto cd's?  and if so will they play in any old cd player?
i asked my husband and he told me that there are ways to do it but that the
only place i would be able to play them was in the computer.  is this true?
any info and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  please respond
off list of course.

>> on november 7, the state of oregon will be voting on the "student

homosexuality in public schools, up to and including community
colleges.

the act would require schools to remove scientific, factual books from

greetings world. ...
well i have to say that this weekend was wonderful in sedona az. two days of wonderfully sunny weather, slight breeze and wonderful music. i found a few new artist who are great and ya'll should check out. annie humphries, her music, talent, songwriting ability is almost as good as her voice. one song, mary...there was not a dry eye ...
also the joel rafeal band and the violinst....
sunday the girls played. it was great. the opened with get out the map , as the sun was beginning to go down behind the most beautiful venue i have been at. emily stopped after maybe 2 seconds and admitted that the elevation was messing with her and she may forget a few more of the words.
they invited indigenous ( a must as well) and ullai(sp) a great groups of female artist to join them for bury my heart at wounded knee....perhaps the best i have ever hear it done. devotion was great. i wish emily had also done leaving ..but hey......one is better than none an just being there was great.
the four of us sitting together, looked at each other at one point during bmhawk and we all had chills......i think for the two couples to be celebrating the anniversaries....that twas probably the best place to be...amy looked good. yes, she has lost with her hair is a bit longer but she was smiling and having a blast. wore the blue boots ( i finally get to see em) they were both very happy, smiling....it was great electricity

sparkie signing off and gonna make sure the boot is any good....

take care all.....
happy b-day to jackson browne....
hey susan b..sorry i missed ya....

monday morning from 10-12 noon central time (8-10 am pacific and 11-1pm
eastern). this is a remote show from gogirlsmusic headquarters in

for those of you who'd like to make this an overnight,  here's the hotel

info:

the atlantic budget inn
8058 ocean gateway (rt 50)
easton, md  410-822-2200

they've offered us a group rate of $60 + tax/room.  this is about $25
off
their regular price and way under everyone else in town.  mention that
you
are attending the avalon theatre show and would like the group rate when
you
make your reservation.  print this email and bring it with you.

about the performers:

red letter day.....known as "the chicks that play everything!" suzanna
mallow and andrea jones meld multi-instrumental talents and rousing
vocals
with prolific songwriting to take one on a journey of emotions that
rollercoasters over quixotic hills of love, through valleys of
emptiness,
around curves of hysterical satire and through straight-aways of hope.
it's
like sitting between bugs bunny and tom robbins while bonnie raitt pelts
you
with juju beans while you're watching the wizard of oz! rld is currently

touring a new cd release titled "beefcandy" featuring the popular songs
"loser", "not as strong" and "salvadore".

naked blue will be celebrating the anniversary of their 'thursday,
october
21st' cd and the release of their new cd 'shaving lucky' of which the
press
says, 'with this new release, jen and scott show their unique ability to

play
to our hearts and sing to our souls...penetrating vocals, vibrant guitar
and
sensitive lyrics...'.  having written the evangeline single 'we will
fly',
bluesman troy turner's latest single 'world without fear' and several
other
songs for film and television, you've probably heard their music and
just
didn't know it!  if you like shawn colvin and fleetwood mac, you'll
enjoy
this show.

commonbond is the magical acoustic partnership of mary beth de pompa and

ashley miller.  swapping writing credits and lead vocals/guitar with
every
track, the group's sound ranges from sexy and romantic to bluesy and
raw.
they have won the hearts of many with their uniquely woven lyrical
stories
and a performance that sizzles.  beautiful harmonies.

here is the rest of rld's schedule and web site..if anyone does go to
any of these shows (i'll be at the one in nc!) please tell suzanna
and/or aj cara sent ya! they love fan support....they are incredible!

ok.  i think i'm outta control today because this is my 3rd post to the list.  that's probably about the number of times i've posted to this list in the past year.  i guess i'm coming out of my lurker shell.  or i'm just really hyper today.  either way, sorry for the rambling.  :)

here's my point!  i'm from the kansas city area and my favorite local artist is kristie stremel.  i want to share her with all of you who are interested in listening to someone new!  she's an amazing singer/songwriter.  and she's damn cute and friendly, too.  it doesn't get any better than that, does it?

so if you're interested you can check out her webpage at www.kristiestremel.com.  she also has songs on mp3.com and garageband.com.  if you've never been to garageband.com, go here http://www.garageband.com/go/h6k4gzzw8o and sign up.  it's a great site for supporting local music.

oh, and if anyone is going to the melissa ferrick show in des moines on oct. 21st kristie is opening for her.  that's really why i'm so hyper today!

i'll shut up now!

i was looking at an ad for reel affirmations, dc's gay and lesbian film
festival and noticed one of the pictures was of amy.  after reading through
the program, i found the connection: amy (along with melissa ferrick, kate
schellenbach and jane siberry) are the subjects of a new documentary by dc
film makers wendy tumminello and lynda allen.  here are the details:

for the love of rock is an explosive documentary, exposing the passion,
frustration, addictions, and prdiliections of female musicians today.
journey with amy ray of the indigo girls, jane siberry, melissa ferrick, and
kate schellenbach of luscious jackson as they buck the system and redefine
the meaning of success.  for the love of rock examines these artists'
personal struggles and obstacles--including creative control, image, and
maintaining a balance between personal life and career.  we find, as they
have, that to be a rock star is hard work but to be a female rock star is a
whole other story, the story of for the love of rock.

the movie is showing at 1:00 on sunday oct 15 (there is a brunch before at
11:00).  if anyone from dc wants to go let me know and we can say hello.

speaking of birthdays (and i know this probably isn't

my brother and his wife had their first baby together
and she was born today a little after noon.  they
haven't decided on a name yet, but one of their
thoughts is emily elizabeth...of course i like that
one cause it would be emily's first name and amy's
middle name...hehehe.
well, whatever her name turns out to be, i am going to
make sure she's an indigo girls fan by age 3.  ;-)

take care y'all,

subject:      sedona and should we be worried about ourselves?
mime-version: 1.0

hi all,

i was at the sedona, az show this weekend - the girls did a short set as
part of the 2 day verde valley school festival. the highlight for me was
hearing devotion live. i'm so sorry i did not pay attention to the
chords. i was just in a weird fog over that song - i heard it for the
first time only friday (i think) and it has not left my head. i mean it
really stuck deep. i woke up singing it on saturday. i'm starting to
worry. and it was great live.

anyway, i had a great time at the show. there were lots of amazing
artists over the 2 days, the setting and the weather were too beautiful
to describe, and i had successfully run for a first row blanket spot for
my family for the sunday show.

so here's what i really wanted to tell y'all because it is really funny
and maybe a reality check for us (hee). so this was a first ig show for
my mother and father. my sister and husband were also there, but they've
both seen'em before. this was a very "tame" show for a first ig show
because all the real fans were flanking the sides (standing, dancing,
singing, and all the usual stuff), while the center was mainly jackson
browne fans who remained calm and seated and semi-interested. so after
the show my dad told me he was worried about us. he said he had looked
around at all the fans standing at the sides (probably a few of you!),
and at me, and he thought maybe the igs were casting some kind of a
spell over us. he said everyone seemed to be in a trance - experiencing
some sort of a rapture. well... what can i say? i guess it sort of is
like that, especially when we're lucky enough to get those front rows.
but my parents didn't get it. ah well. part of me thinks they are right.
some of us have gone over the edge of reason. but the other part of me
feels sorry for them for missing out! heehee... actually,  i'm glad i
didn't hit them with a full-strength show to start out. they'd be
planning an intervention.

since i'm pretty sure amy and emily haven't put us in a trance, i can
only hope they aren't also frightened by what appears to an impartial
person to be an intense and perhaps overly passionate group of devotees.
i like to think we're all taking part in a great experience together at
those shows and that the girls are enjoying the energy from the crowd.
since i've been going to the shows since '89 or so i realize the feeling
at the shows has kind of intensified over the years, but i hope that's
not a bad thing! it's not quite like those beatle crowds anyway
(yet!)...

ok - back to work and just to make sure to keep myself in check, some
other group's cd on the stereo.

so whoever, some kind friend, tuck my email addy away and email me when and

yes, the reservation has been made and yes, by god, we will have a superific (as

set for 8:00 right now, but since i don't know what time this show will end,
that could change. i tried to email earthchallenge, but got no response.

as soon as i get more info i'll let you know.  i'll be sending another little
reminder as we get closer to the big day.

can't wait -- oh god, please don't let it rain.

ok, so along these same lines...if anyone is familiar with the photo of ig
that was in rolling stone a few years ago, where they're standing
knee-deep in a river wearing white gown-like thingies...to make a long
story short, my grandma knew i was pretty into them and when she saw this
picture of them on my wall, she expressed concern to my uncle that i was
getting involved in some sort of cult. ahh, you gotta love that good ol'
grandmotherly concern. i guess now, 4 or 5 years later, she figures if
they haven't gotten me yet, they're not going to...little does she know.

hey y'all,

a while back i started a webring for members of this list who have websites.
however, the yahoo takeover of webring.org made running a webring (and having
a site in a webring) horrible.  so i e-mailed all of the current members
asking for suggestions.  i finally decided to move my ring.  while the ring
was being moved, i did not accept any new members to the yahoo webring.

i am happy to announce that the new listee webring is up and kickin'!  if you
have a website (igc is not required.  of course it is welcome, but the only
requirements are that you must be a member of this list and that you must
have the navigation bar (no graphics, small font, not intrusive to your
site's content) on the page).

if you would like to join, please go here:
http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=iglistees;action=addform

if you have questions, please ask me.  i would love to see everyone on this
list who has a web site be included.  that way we could all surf through
eachothers' websites easily.

thanks, y'all!

yeah, but only on the same computer.  when you pay for
it, it puts some kind of thing out on your computer
for a protection copyright whatever.   cause i got my
dad to try to download it on his computer from the
same link just to see what it did, and he was able to
download it, but when he went to play it, it wouldn't
play because of the protection thing.  of course my
dad was not very upset cause he doesn't like the
indigo girls anyway, but we just wanted to see how the
protection thing worked. :-)

the circles are just an indication of the connection speed the person who is

hi all....
just a little side note.  cbrc has been played numerous times on a station down here in savannah, which is great, of course.  but what always gets me is when the dj says "...and that was the indigo girls and sheryl crow..."  making it sound like a "duet" or something.  that's a little frustrating sometimes.

my two cents...

just wanted to add 2 additions to sparkie's set list from sedona. somewhere
in there they also did faye tucker and point hope. i kind of enjoyed
hearing such a stripped-down version of faye tucker. carol isaacs played
with them for the whole set so it worked out fine. it would have been fun
to have a bunch of us do the clapping parts. amy did the scream in that
song with so much force her face turned beet red.

there are no events listed past 9/30

i then called bluestocking at (212) 777-6028
and asked if there was going to be a reading tonight.
the woman said that there was only a meeting for a rape crisis center in
new york happening tonight.

so....

i got really excited for a moment there.

dr. laura actually appologized to the glbt community, for calling us all
"deviants."

her show isn't doing well here in st.paul/mpls.
and it was welcomed by protests. i hope this is a sincere appology, and
not just done  for ratings.

as someone said when asked by wcco4,  "it's a positive first step,
however it will be nice to see it backed up with some action."  or
something like that.

anyway i hope this cheers up many a depressed person tonight.

peace

hey all...just thought i'd share this nigc

dr. laura apologizes to homosexuals

los angeles (ap) - laura schlessinger used the jewish yom
kippur holiday - the day of
atonement - to apologize to gays and lesbians for "poorly
chosen" words she said have been
perceived as hate speech. "on the day of atonement, jews are
commanded to seek forgiveness
from people we have hurt," the radio and tv talk show host,
who is jewish, said in a newspaper
ad. "i deeply regret the hurt this situation has caused the
gay and lesbian community." the ad, in the
form of a letter signed by schlessinger, was included in a
special "gay hollywood" edition of the
trade paper daily variety. the wednesday issue examines
progress by gays and lesbians in the
entertainment industry. yom kippur, during which jews fast
and seek forgiveness for sins, was
           monday.

schlessinger has been criticized by gay rights activists for
referring to homosexuality as a "biological
error" and "deviant." in march, she said she was sorry her
radio comments have hurt people. her
words of contrition then and now failed to placate her
critics. "laura schlessinger once again

yeah, the music satellite system that plays all day long at tgi friday's,
(where i work), has a channel called "coffeehouse rock," and whenever it's on
i'll hear the girls 3 or four times in the course of the shift...  needless
to say, i'm always trying to get the managers to put it on that station,
(either that or "flashback new wave"... all the "good" music from the
eighties... that one's pretty cool, too), which isn't very hard, because
coffeehouse rock is a nice agreeable, non-offensive station to play in a
restaurant.  so i get to hear ig all the time... especially cbrc, since
that's the single right now... but peace tonight, least complicated, galileo,
and closer to fine are in their rotation pretty much as well. i guess i'm
kind of spoiled right now  :)

they say new mexico has 360 days of sunshine.  which is usually true.  it's
usually 360+.  but, not this week.  in spite of this being the week for the
kodak albuquerque international balloon fiesta, it has been raining.  that
humid kind of raining that doesn't actually stop - it just sort of "mists".

so, we slogged from the parking lot to the albuquerque convention center and
(after talking to the ralph nader people and the "free leonard peltier"
people) took the escalators up to kiva auditorium.  this is a smaller venue.
it is very comfortable, the sound is excellent, and there's not a bad seat
in the house.  my friends and i had front row seats, emily side.  which was
great because all the artists came from that side of the stage to enter.  it
is very cozy and very intimate.  i always feel like i'm sitting in someone's
living room.

indigenous was a very good band.  energetic, electric, talented - just not
my cup of tea.  i could not understand one word of any song that they did.

jackson browne was great.  total opposite of indigenous.  mellow, laid bad,
earthy-crunchy.  he has a wonderful presence on stage - my friend remarked
that he seemed very "down to earth".  i'm sorry to say he only did one song
that i recognized - take it easy.  but, that's because i've never really
listened to any of his music.

ig - set list:

redemption song - wow!  never heard this live.  wonderful.  took a break -
showed the "all my relations" video.  amy commented that she missed a lot of
chords and things would definitely get better.  i didn't notice, but i
hadn't heard this one live.
welcome me - another wow!  excellent!
get out the map
devotion - beautiful song acoustic.  i love ig acoustic.  amy was explaining
the song and told a little story about her dad.  she said she lives in the
woods now and her dad came over to visit.  she said he was out in her front
yard, which wasn't really a front yard because she lives in the woods and
it's, well, just a lot of land.  so, her dad comes over and starts weeding
her front yard - which isn't a front yard.  she says devotion is about not
being in control of things.  like, well, love (or life - i couldn't really
hear which one she said because everyone was laughing) and weeds!!  cute
story. emily said that people keep asking her what the song is about and she
didn't know.  amy said, "we never know what each other's songs are about".
mystery - emily was in fine form - her voice was so clear and beautiful.
go - i have to say i really love this song with the band, but it was still
very fun.
power of two
johnny rotten - yee haw!!!  i've been waiting to see amy do this one
again!!!  excellent!!  heard every word.
history of us - the highlight of my evening, i think.  emily said this was
her dad's favorite song - that it had a european feel to it.  she was
talking about carolyn isaacs being from england and this would make her feel
at home.  amy commented that at one point in hte emily had to go solo
because she had another engagement.  and that emily did all these really
great songs that amy keeps asking her to do, like this one.  so, emily does
all these great songs on the night that amy can't be at the concert.  emily
said "well, it's more fun playing with you".  amy said, "yeah, it's more fun
playing".  lots of laughing and smiles on that one.
chickenman - always a roof raiser!
closer to fine - good audience participation.
point hope - i've got to get this song!!!  it's beautiful.
galileo - another good audience song.
bury my heart at wounded knee - indigenous and jackson browne back on stage
- excellent drummer with indigenous!

at one point, amy told us she had done her laundry today (wednesday) at lobo
laundry (near the university).  she said she had a good laundry day and that
usually meant it was generally going to be a great day if you have a good
laundry day.

emily said they had been doing a lot of activities - visiting the zuni
pueblo, touring the petroglyph national monument and generally being out and
about.  she said they had been getting really wet with all the rain.  very
cute quote "we're melting right before ya'lls eyes"!

i got a pick!!  sully looked great.  she had a lot of smiles!!

ig also looked great and were on the chatty side - more than i've seen at
any other concert - could be the intimate setting and the small crowd.  i'm
embarrassed for my little city - the event obviously did not sell out.  lots
of great seats all around me.  two of our friends that were supposed to show
up bailed on us.  they had seats right behind ours.  the crowd seemed very
reserved at times.  i was the only one that attempted to stand up a couple
of times.  then, of course, i felt silly and sat back down.  people finally
stood during ctf.

okay.  sorry it was so long, but it was really fresh in my mind and i wanted
to share.

have a great day everyone.

hey gang -

the t-shirts are finally starting to come in. i got 2 boxes this
morning, and expect the rest today or tomorrow. sooooo... this means
i'll be mailing everything out at the beginning of next week. you
should be getting your shirts starting at the end of next week.

i'm not sure what the hold-up was with the vendor. i think they
actually received the shirts at the beginning of my vacation, but
waited to send because they wanted to reconfirm my address. why my
roommate couldn't have told them when they called, i don't know.

anyhow, that's the status. they look fabulous, also. i think y'all will
be happy. the babydoll tees are especially cute. :)

oh, and i'm making a scrapbook from my ig stuff. if any of you have
pics of yourselves wearing a list tee, and have extra copies, i think
it'd be sorta cool to see...

thanks. i've been having an absolutely wretched day over here. mostly
work related, but other assorted drama as well. it's nice to actually
see the shirts and know i can get them to you soon!

love -
amy

hey y'all,

i read manifesta.  i didn't read it because it is co-authored by amy's
girlfriend.  i fact, when someone suggested it to me, i had no clue that
jennifer baumgardner co-wrote it.  i read it because i was a women's studies
minor and the women's studies volunteer dept. assistant at my alma mater.
every year, that department has an activity where they invite young women to
campus, and match them up with female college students, and allow for a day
of discussion and empowerment.  anyway, i originally read the book thinking
that it may be a great tool for the women's studies department to use during
that event (it is!!!).

manifesta was one of the better books i have read this year (and again, i say
that not becasue it was authored by amy's gf).  and if anyone out there knows
anything about what i am doing during this school year (pre-graduate school
research in my field of interest, so as you can imagine, i am reading a lot
of works that i find really intriguing), that is a major compliment for me to
give a book that i had read.

also, if anyone has a taped copy of the interview with baumgardner, please
e-mail me.  i would be more than willing to trade an ig boot for it (or just
do a b&p, your decision), i would love to hear what the authors had to say,
and i would love to pass it on to my campus' women's studies department.

thanks, y'all!

:-) karen

hey gang -

the t-shirts are finally starting to come in. i got 2 boxes this
morning, and expect the rest today or tomorrow. sooooo... this means
i'll be mailing everything out at the beginning of next week. you
should be getting your shirts starting at the end of next week.

i'm not sure what the hold-up was with the vendor. i think they
actually received the shirts at the beginning of my vacation, but
waited to send because they wanted to reconfirm my address. why my
roommate couldn't have told them when they called, i don't know.

anyhow, that's the status. they look fabulous, also. i think y'all will
be happy. the babydoll tees are especially cute. :)

oh, and i'm making a scrapbook from my ig stuff. if any of you have
pics of yourselves wearing a list tee, and have extra copies, i think
it'd be sorta cool to see...

thanks. i've been having an absolutely wretched day over here. mostly
work related, but other assorted drama as well. it's nice to actually
see the shirts and know i can get them to you soon!

love -
amy

i read about this in the paper. some glbt spokesperson was saying
that the text of her apology was nearly identical to one she had made
earlier and quickly withdrawn.

if she's apologizing, it's only in an attempt to quell controversy so her
show can go on. that woman only cares about one thing - getting
ratings. ultimately i doubt she really believes in any of the self-righteous
crap she spews (she certainly hasn't practiced what she preaches) -
she's just another kind of "shock jock", saying outrageous things
"homosexuals are a mistake of nature" to get attention and ratings.
i don't give her any more credence than howard stern (actually,
less) or rush limbaugh.

i was tooling around the amazon site (i'm always amazed at the insane

the retro cd is the number 2 best seller today.

i wonder where it'll end up on the billboard charts.

jude,

last nights show was great.  it was acoustic ig and i was expecting the
whole new band (who i've yet to see live).  they did have carol with them on a
few songs.  i was really happy because i prefer the scaled down version.  they
came out and opened with redemption song, then the little movie, then they
came
back out and started playing again.  it was great to hear devotion, johnny
rotten, and point hope.
funny, when i went to buy tickets i could have gotten front row, but i
didn't want a&e to see me booting (even though amy told me years ago she
doesn't care as long as it's not sold).  i could have had second row, but way
to the side (can't have that--off balance boot?).  so i ended up just left of
center on row 8.  great seats!  the kiva is a pretty small venue, much smaller
than the paolo solari in santa fe, where they usually play (but haven't been
in
like 5 years-not since swamp.  major bummer and 8 hour drives to denver and
phoenix to see shows.) anyways, lots of banter (my favorite thing).  amy
talked
about doing her laundry that day at lobo laundry and how she had a lot of fun
and how any day that she had a good laundry experience was a really good day.
she said she liked albuquerque, there was a lot of stuff going on here
(international balloon festival is this week with about 1,000 hot air balloons
from around the world. the largest balloon festival anywhere).  and she said
albuquerque "had a good feel".  they talked about seeing lots of stuff and how
it was all outside and how they've spent the last 2 days in the rain and emily
said they were "melting".
they played about 45 minutes and then stopped and indigenous came back out
and played an instrumental while amy and emily went up and down the aisles
with
garbage bags picking up all the action cards from everybody.  wow!  (did they
do this at other shows?)  then they got back on stage and played another 4
songs and it was over.  i miss the long shows i used to see.  last time i saw
them was when they were here for lillith fair and they only played about 45
minutes then.  it was just really good to see them again.    and i love to
hear stuff that's not on the albums.  the set list:
redemption song
welcome me
get out the map
devotion
mystery
go
power of two
johnny rotten
history of us
chickenman
closer to fine
point hope
galileo
bury my heart at wounded knee

in case it hasn't already been mentioned,   both watershed and the flying
biscuit have been mentioned in the october  "gourmet" and the september "bon
appetit" issues respectively, both are their "best of" restaurants issues.
i'm thinking e.s. still has interest in both restaurants.

the bon appetit mention of the flying biscuit in the "neighborhood favorites"
article (and in the same breath as chez panisse?!?) sports a photo of cook
"miss ashley"robinson:
"the crowded sunday brunch is the real winner at this sunny candler park
spot, but there's no need to wait in line if you don't want to:  breakfast is
served all day, every day.  at lunch or dinner, try the love cakes (black
bean cakes with tomatillo salsa and feta) or the "stoup" of the day (it falls
somewhere between a soup and a stew).  both come with a flying biscuit, the
restaurant's doughy, fluffy namesake."

and the "gourmet" list of america's best restaurants list, for atlanta:
"whoever heard of a sandwich shop in a converted gas station with a
thoughtful wine list of choice american vintages?  in addition to grilled
panini of san daniele proscuitto accompanied by a fig conserve, or
white-truffle chicken salad with sultanas on pane integrale, watershed
expands its evening menu with pasta.  when the menu says 'very good chocolate
cake', know that it's an understatement."

wow!   an incredible songwriter, and musician, enviromentalist, humanitarian
and activist, and helping to further the cause of creative fabulous food?  we
have seen perfection and she is a redhead.  :)
way to go emily and the watershed and flying biscuit teams

just thought y'all would like to know.  :)

  from: glenda_28509 <glenda_28509@msn.com>
  subject: albuquerque concert

the albuquerque hte concert opened with indigenous.  indigenous played their
usual hard rock and i personally didn't like it.  it all sounded the same
and i couldn't understand a word that the lead singer (matoe?) sang.  later
in the concert both amy and jackson browne commented that matoe had played
on stage the night before in albuquerque at the carlos santana concert.
when jackson browne came on stage he said he found it hard to follow such a
loud rock act.  i suppose many people didn't want to hear it at all because
fully half of the seats sold didn't fill in until jackson browne sang.  he
played a great set and ended with "running on empty".  he said that after
the window rock concert they stopped in winslow arizona at 3:00 am to see a
statue erected in his honor.  he commented that the only thing that looked
like him was the hair.  i also wondered why he hasn't changed his hair since
the 70's but anyway he looks the same so i guess he wants to keep the hair
the same so he will be recognized.  after jackson browne finished the ig
came out and sang "redemption's song"  followed by a slide show dealing with
war and political issues.  i believe that three speakers followed; the
governor of the zuni pueblo; a navajo woman; and a pueblo man.  all of the
speakers were nervous and my friend and i commented that they were hard to
follow.  we really couldn't understand the issues.  especially the mining
issue presented by the zuni governor.  the last speaker introduced the ig
and he obviously didn't have his finger on the pulse of rock and roll
because he got nervous and called them the "indigenous girls".
they then sang:
redemption's song (before the slide show)
welcome me
get out the map
devotion
mystery
go
power of two
johnny rotten?  (amy sang this alone accompanying herself on the mandolin)
i've never heard the song before.
history of us
chicken man
closer to fine
?  the new mp3 that is being used to raise money for hte
point hope?
galileo (with jackson browne)
bury my heart at wounded knee (with indigenous and jackson browne).

there were a lot of fun moments during the concert but it seemed rushed.
i've been to concerts where amy and emily interact with the audience more
but i don't think the kiva offered a very warm and friendly setting.  i was
sitting on row 17 right in the middle and most of the people around me
weren't really getting into the concert.  amy commented that she liked
albuquerque and thought it had a lot of good things going on and a good
feeling about the place.  she expressly mentioned having a good laundry
experience at "lobo laundry" and told the audience that when she has a good
laundry experience that she likes a place.  amy and emily spent time and the
petroglyphs where the government is trying to take  i 25 through the middle
of them.  i know emily mentioned that they were "melting" in all the rain.
it hasn't stopped raining in albuquerque since last saturday.  the set list
was terrific.  i was so happy to hear many of my favorite songs played that
i hadn't heard them perform in years like "history of us" and "galileo" and
"welcome me".  after they played "welcome me" amy apologized for playing so
many wrong chords and promised that the rest of the concert would get
better.  then they played "get out the map" which i really love and they
really landed on same bad chords.  i'll forgive them because i love the song
so much.  ( and i couldn't perform it better so i'm not criticizing).
when they played "devotion", amy told us that she wrote the song after
seeing her dad, "a career gardner", come over to her house in the woods and
start pulling up weeds.  she said that she really has no yard to speak of
and so it was futile to pull up weeds that will only come back.  she
mentioned that she has a lot of property and therefore a lot of weeds.  she
saw the metaphor with life and realized that there are just some things you
just can't do any thing about.  emily said she was happy to finally know
what the song was about.  emily said she had been asked in interviews what
the song was about and had responded that she thought it was about "letting
go".  amy agreed that it was about letting go.  they both laughed and said
that they don't really know what each others songs are about.  emily
introduced "history of us" by telling us that it is her dad's favorite song.
after emily played "history of us" she commented that she hadn't played that
song in about 10 years.  i wanted to tell her that i knew she played it in
montana last week but i let it go.  anyway amy commented that emily had
played a show alone in montana because she (amy) had to go somewhere and amy
had been asking emily for years to play all those old songs and when she
finally did amy wasn't there to hear them.  emily said that she was "scared"
to play alone and that the "liked playing with amy".  amy got all mushy and
said that she also "liked playing with emily".  they realized that they had
a sexual pun going and amy said she liked playing with a lot of people.
everyone laughed.
i really enjoyed the performance of "chicken man".  i think this song has
really evolved.  amy's voice sounded stronger and deeper than ever.  i could
feel her voice resonating through me.  it was cute when amy said that they
didn't mind it if people got up and walked around during "chicken man".  she
knows it's a long song and she referred to them as a "bar band".  i miss the
days when chicken man was 13 minutes and included stream of consciousness,
but it was good anyway.  (anita, you'll be happy to know that they didn't
play faye tucker and chicken man in one set.  have they ever done that?)
amy and emily came out into the audience to pick up the political action
cards.  the audience refrained from mobbing them though i'm sure we all
wished they had time to sign autographs.  they really shattered my reality
and made me realized that nothing is concrete in this world when they played
two songs after they played ctf.  after ctf i was ready to leave and much to
my surprise i saw sully the guitar tech come on stage with more guitars.  i
was happy however to hear the additional songs.  oh yeah, amy was wearing
beige pants and a t-shirt with the tan flowered shirt hanging open over the
top.  emily had black pants on and a white shirt under an open maroon shirt.
emily's hair was the same and amy looked like well--i always like her with
shorter hair better but you know i still love her.  my friend who went with
me had never been to an ig concert before and she commented that she thought
emily seemed more culturally refined and amy seemed to have more raw energy.
we all know that but it's obvious to everyone--even those who don't consider
themselves fans.

pass this on the  ig fan club.

nope - the line you mentioned is from the song mona lisas and mad hatters. it is
a completely separate elton john/bernie taupin song from tiny dancer. i have
never heard the girls do tiny dancer (have they done it?).  you got the line for
mona lisas and mad hatters  nearly right  - but for some reason the sons of
bankers come before the sons of lawyers.

tiny dancer goes "hold me closer tiny dancer, count the headlights on the
highway, lay me down in sheets of linen, you had a busy day today", and i don't
think there is any mention of bankers or lawyers at all!

have a great evening! i think i'll dig up my old ej albums... i kinda like his
album, tumbleweed connection. ever since i was a kid i have liked playing the
song where to now st. peter on both guitar and piano. i also like the song come
down in time. i think the girls have covered that but i've never heard it.

hey all,

a good friend of my sister would really love to meet up with some listees at
the ohio concert.  she just moved to ohio and before now i have always taken
her to all of the st. louis, mo concerts with me, because i am so proud of
her for loving the girls music.  so anyway, she would love for my sister or
i to go, but it just won't work, too many prior commitments.  i was
wondering if there are any kind souls she could meet up with before the
concert.  she is super sweet and a great ig fan.  she will be joining the
list soon.  also, if anyone has an extra ticket, please let me know.  she
just found out about the concert so she doesn't have one yet, and i wasn't
sure if it is gen admin or not.

hey y'all,

a bunch of you were asking about prerecorded ig md's.

tonight i was at the big virgin megastore.  they have a few pre-recorded
md's.  but the only ig ones they had were the originals (not the
re-releases).  so i am still uncertain whether the re-releases were released
on md.  i guess i'll just wait until i get back to japan (this april,
hopefully), where everyone had an md player/recorder and there are a lot more
pre-recorded md's for sale.  but if anyone does come acorss the re-releases
on md, please let me know where you found them.

thanks,

hey gang i was wondering aimlessly through tower records the other day and
happen to trip (lol what can i say im an ass) and as i fell to the floor i
realized i tripped over a stack of books on the floor...as i went to pick
them up the cover caught my eye ... what was it you ask? leonard peltier's
book 'prison writings:my life is my sun dance' and let me say this, i have
yet to finish it but there have been many times when the hair on my arms has
stood straight up (the only thing on me thats straight)...
instead of explaining what happened or justifying his obvious innocence he
talks about what it is like to be locked away and what he goes through in
his mind every day .... and how although they (feds and what not)have taken
so much away from him there are many things they will never be able to
touch...
a very good book...
well back to helping my ex move to milwaukee
(dont ask how i got myself involved in it ...i am still wondering that
myslef)
have a good friday...

i was fortunate enough to arrange a business trip to denver for yesterday
so i could go to the concert.  i couldn't believe how great this show was.
i don't know if it's because my expectations were moderate, what with it
being a ga show (meaning no way could i get up close) or that it was a
benefit and they wouldn't play very long.  well, i was very wrong on both
accounts.

i've seen the girls 7 times in the last 2 1/2 years and this was right up
there with shows in dallas and berkeley where i had unbelieveable seats.
luckily, a guy who works for me had been to this venue a number of times
so he knew exactly how to get up close (without being rude).  the funny
part of this is that i have 3 very straight guys who work for me - they're
in their late 30's early 40's and all of them have kids - and i said "hey,
who wants to go to this show" and they figured it was some sort of "team
building" thing so they needed to go.  it was such fun because they didn't
think it would be anywhere near as great as it was.  i took great pleasure
"introducing" the girls to folks who would not have ever been exposed to
them.  i'm thinking that to further the "team building" i should buy all of
them the retrospective cd as a memoir...funny.

anyway, back to the show.  amazing.  i was 10 people deep on amy's side,
standing the whole time - no seats at the fillmore on the floor.  i've
never seen the girls so animated or into a show - especially amy.  i can't
figure out why they're still so surprised when people know every word to
every song.  you'd think after 1500+ shows, they'd figure out that people
really like them and love to sing their songs!  what a setlist they played.
just the two of them, acoustic guitars and occassionally carol issacs on
the keyboard.

they played 5 new songs:  point hope, devotion (a new favorite), leaving,
johnny rotten (wow!  she broke a mandolin string on this one....intense
song), and they opened with a song i didn't know.  anyone???

the rest of the setlist, in no particular order:

shame on you
get out the map
wood song
chickenman
power of two
kid fears - vonda did the 3rd part harmony.  probably would've been better
just to let the audience do it...
galileo
go - totally different song acoustic.  nowhere near as powerful but still
good.
gone again
ghost

encore:

baby don't you break my heart slow (w/vonda shepard)  -  what a song!
closer to fine (with everyone:  vonda and the other opening acts)

that's 17 songs!  someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but that's nearly a
full show, not what i would perceive they'd play at a benefit concert.
anyway, great show.   emily cracked herself up at the beginning of a song
- i can't remember which one, but she just started laughing really hard.
and amy was, well, amy.  looked unbelievably great and happy and having a
blast.  is it my imagination or is she getting better looking?

the hte part was very moving.  winona laduke spoke - what a powerful woman.
i for one turned in my little card, that's for sure.  now i've got the
indigo concert bug again.  hmmm...how can i arrange a trip to chicago next
week...???  anyone know if that show is ga?

howdy all!  i am new to the email list and i was also at the denver show last
night and wrote up a little critique of it to put on the bbs at sonymusic.
this is the review i came up with:

heres the set list from the accoustic denver show last night:

1. redemption song
this song was followed by a very moving slide show with commentary about
senseless pollution and slaughter of wildlife.
2. gone again
3. the wood song (i could not believe they were singing this! i think tears
shot out of my eyes at 100 mph after i heard the first chord of the song!
havent heard this in concert since the early 90s!)
4. devotion
5. ghost (timeless favorite!)
6. shame on you
7. get out the map (lol...emily totally started singing the wrong line at the
beginning of the song! instead of starting out "im gonna clear my head", she
started with "the saddest sight my eyes can see". the audience sang along
with her from her starting point. then she stopped, busted out laughing while
we all kept singing, then rejoined us as we kept on singing. what a riot!)
8. go (not the same accoustically, but still good)
9. leaving (emily looked very moved)
10. johnny rotten (holy cow! each time i see amy sing this she seems to get
more and more intense! she broke some mandolin strings this time and started
to sound like something from the exorcist towards the end! always good!)
11. power of two
12. point hope
13. galileo (audience got a longer solo than usual on this. i love watching
the girls smile while we sing!)
14. kid fears (whoa! another one i havent heard in years in concert!
wow..thats all i can say.)
encore:
15. baby dont you break my heart slow with vonda sheppard (what a great song!
emily gives it such a nice touch.)
16. chickenman (i can never get enough of this song...dont ask me why!)
17. closer to fine (the loudest singalong i have ever heard at a show!)

this was my 10th time seeing the girls in concert. i was blessed after the
show and got to meet emily out by their bus. what a thrill to be able to
shake her hand and tell her right to her face that i have been one of their
biggest fans for 10 years now. amy looked very spent after the show and just
waved to us fans. was an absolutely fantastic show last night!!! go see them
on the hte tour if you get the chance.

hey diane and anybody who was at the filmore or anywhere last night,

i think we met last year at the bronco bowl list meet last year. i drove down
from colorado last year and last night i was at the filmore, too.
that first song was "redemption song". bob marley. i'm pretty sure it's a bob
marley song.

my girlfriend and i were sitting back on emily's side by the mixing booth at a
little table. it wasn't close, but it was fine. and actually, there was this
wire on the
floor and about one out of every four people was tripping over it and then
staring
down at the floor like it had reached up and attacked them and i know it's
wrong to laugh - i know it is. and i'm sorry i did. but i laughed harder than i

have in a really long time watching one person after another trip over this
damn
wire taped to the floor. i mean people were being launched over this thing.
and in our defense, i'd like to say, there was a table to our right and they
were
doing the same thing. and no. we did nothing to make sure nobody would get
hurt. because we're bad bad people. but no one fell down. although i think i
tripped
over it later in the evening. i think that would count as instant karma. and
well
deserved karma, too.

it was a mellow evening for us. we danced together for power of two. that's
really
all i wanted, and we got that. it's been a hard year for us. death and sickness
and
sadness. somehow the indigo girls make the hard go down a little easier. some
full moon magic in a sometimes dark magic world.

long day at work.
take care, all. look at the sky tonight.
kristen

probably.  when i bought my digipack copy of 1200 curfews there were no
liner notes.  i called the number on the disk and they sent me liner notes
in the mail a few weeks later.  although, i had to explain to the girl on
the other end of the line what liner notes were, and why they were
important!  :)

good luck!

ok i got mine from tower's site too... they must have gotten a weird batch or
something..i think i'm going to do what chris suggested and call the number
on the cd to get the correct liners (just in case the messed up ones are rare
;)

but yeah, tower should definitely exchange it b/c of the liners. (chris,
that's odd cause when my sister bought 1200 curfews her liner book was
missing too..)

... and it might be my last, i'm not sure. i think boot selling on ebay have
calmed down recently but not totally. which is good. and i still have ideas
of for projects.
although someone told me there's a website selling some discs that i and
janet doe made available. granted it's supposed to be not-for-profit but
there's something to be said about making a person put the effort in to
sending blanks if at all possible. (and the discs _were_ originally
distributed on a 'never for sale' basis...)

anyway, ~i'm not making this offer yet so don't email me~ but i am calling
for some suck..er... volunteers to help make copies. if you're interested in
helping distribute one of more of these drop me a line (and tell me which
ones):

- attack of the killer b-sides volume five. more official rarities collected
(as always direct from cd not mp3)
- columbia records radio hour plus! - a quality radio shows by the ig from
april 2000 direct from the radio cd (and with proper track separation!) plus
equally cool bonus'
- indigo originals (2cd) - songs the ig have written but never released on
an epic album (including a sneek peek at amy's new songs)
- uk95: three days in june. throw away your copy of complicated girls - this
has the _whole_ 1995 uk tour, including radio shows and glastonbury in ~best
ever quality~. oooh...
- shepherd's bush empire complete (2cd) half from soundboards, half from an
audience recording (you can throw away your in with the out crowd too)
- peabody's downunder (a radio concert from 1989)

probably available from me only because of previous problems with 80 minute
discs:
reverse-1/shades of indigo (two promos on 1 80 min cdr)
live on the tv vol 1&2 (two so-so quality but interesting boots on 1 80 min
cdr)

and i'm still debating making this available:
retroactive - new songs 2000 (only available to those who affirm they have
paid for 'retrospective' and the 'point hope' download).

artwork is slowly being added to the neilytones website www.go.to/neilytones
and eclectic indigo (which has had a major update too)
www.andineil.com/indigogirls. if you have a ig website you might want to
link to my 'never pay money for an ig boot' page, nifty banner and all...

it also occurs to me that there's not really much use waiting for a copy of
emily's solo tape to appear (prove me wrong kids... prove me wrong) so i
should combine amy's 'color me grey' with the '81 study hall tape and make
early recordings 5. thing is, i don't have either (well, i have color me
grey but in awful quality, well, five of the songs are in great quality on
er1). so if anyone has quality low gen copies and wants to throw them my
way... maybe that'll get done in time for this offer.

speaking of which, if i owe anyone anything now is a great time to remind
me. hopefully i'm getting all caught up.

and that's basically it.

it amazes me how some people just don't see
the value in liner notes.

i don't know about anyone else, but i get so interested in music, just
have to know all about it, i have learned so many things about abut
music all over the world just by reading the liners.

it's amazing what notes do tell!!  and it's somewhat disheartening when
i run into  some one who doesn't think to pay that much attention to
what they listen to, accept for the nice melody, or the beat, or
whatever, and doesn't really care enugh to find anything about the song,
like it's just music, nothing worth reading about.

liner notes are also entertainig,  and most of the time when i get a cd
i haven't heard the songs yet, so i can't sing along unless i have the
words  (i'll listen to the news, on npr before i let the radio stations
tell me which music i'd like to hear by pushing songs over and over and
over)

anyway. now i hope i can send this, my  email's doing funny things right
now.

hmmmmm  they were signed to epic in 88 and probably actually recorded the
album that year but epic released their self titled album 2/21/89.   emily
was born july 22, 1963 and amy april 12, 1964 soooooo if my math is right
then emily was 25 and amy was 24.  so it depends on how quickly they recorded
the album if they were each a year younger or not.

hey...

first, i finally got all the reissues in and let me say the worst thing
about them.
worse than the stingy number of bonus tracks.
worse than having most of the bonus tracks already.
worse than the erroneous liner notes and stickers.
is that the reproduction on the artwork for the inlays is ~awful~. blurry.
fuzzy. ick.
i thought the back cover of nomads... was bad with the blurry/sharp contrast
between the old song titles and the bonus tracks.
but the group picture inside strange fire is just terrible. it just looks
like a bad scan. i mean, really.

end gripe.

second:
i have an extra tower bonus disc thing. it's free to the person who give's
me the best reason they should have it. or who tells me the funniest joke.
or who sends me a naked photo of themselves. ok, so maybe not the last one.
reasons and/or jokes. yeah. but i'm a tough person to please...

good question....i'd also like to know, if anyone
knows, whether you can bring beer and stuff to the
festival.  i don't plan to be drunk (want to remember
the indigo girls) but a couple beers is always nice.
:-)
