guys...

do me a favour. take a couple of minute to email safeharbor@ebay.com and
inform them that this item:
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/ebayisapi.dll?viewitem&item=468307774
is a bootleg (it's a 3cd set of attack of the killer b-sides, if you want me
to save you a trip).
if you want to cc it to badbeat@riaa.com then i'm not going to stop you.

why not direct them to this webpage as well, which has more info:
http://www.lifeblood.net/unauthor/cds.html

please be polite, use your own wording, etc.

one more thing. anyone wanting to discuss this can email me in private. i'm
sure the list doesn't need to go over this yet again. i'm sure we're all
pretty much agreed on the subject in hand. i'll personally be making sure
the bidders know the deal so you don't have to. they (and you) might also
find this auction useful:

hello all.

ig are featured as the cover article in this month's

which is north america's professional musician's union.

the article is available on the afm's site
but you have to be in the musician's union to have access to

i got a bad liner too.  returned mine to tower, where i got it in
person - this problem with the tower batch isn't restricted to online
buys.  the sales clerk opened a bunch, so i could get a good one, and
they were all like that.

on the tower promo cd - my sales clerk (richmond) said "how many do you
want?"  i of course said, "how many can i get?"  she said take as many
as you want, things like this tend to be around for ever and sales
people forget to hand them out.  so - i'm sure, at some tower records,
this attitude is prevalent and if you just walk in and ask the right
person for one (or two), they'll give them to you.

and apparently, borders gives out promo cd compilations as well.  i saw
one sitting on a counter and asked about it, and the guy said, "it's
free, you can have it."  and it had bonnie raitt and peter gabriel, and
all kinds of good 80s-90s hits on it - neato!

on a side note - i agree with neil - the scanned artwork, both inside
and outside the liner booklets is terrible.  first they make us buy
music that we already own - sometimes several times over (between my gf
and me, we've collectively owned 5 copies of nis, only to have to buy
another one) and then give us sucky artwork.  pardon me for sacrilege,
but the whole deal reeks.

oh - and by the way - hi everybody - i've missed you guys - but it is
cool to have a real job now, even though i can't play on the net all
day and i lost my cd-writer.  :)

....inspite of comments about lousy liner notes
you've got me salivating to pick up retro for those two songs, (i still
think it's a crummy deal.
but i guess that's the way the cookie crumbles.)

second........the girls are coming tomorrow and i"m sick with  a cold
(probably a sinus infection. and i can't take anti-histamines!)
we've got three acts on before ig come out,
so it is going to be a lonnnnng night. i hope i'm up for it!

so all i can say right now is a big  dang!  it just might be the first
ig show i've missed since 1994..........and the reason i'm going is it
might be the last time i see them for a long time.

yeah, at first i was hesitant to spend 20 bucks on retro, (really, there was
never a doubt in my mind ;) but the new songs are so great that they are
worth 10 bucks a piece.  actually, in my case, 12 for devotion, 8 for
leaving.  i think devotion is as good of a song as it gets.  i can not get
enough of hearing it.  i will listen to it 2x, then leaving, the devotion
2x...cycle continues.  well worth the money.

hey listers,

i was on this list for a long time and left and just got back on, mainly to
ask if there is anyone on here who a) lives in montana and is into good
music (i just moved to missoula and am interested in meeting other music
fans) and b) if anyone was at or has a recording of any of the honor the
earth shows here two weeks ago, specifically the 10/4 one with dar williams.
it was an amazing show and i would love to have a copy of it.  or any of
those shows.

so drop me a line if you're out here!!

my wife and i just got back from kansas a bit ago and we had a wonderful
time at honor the earth.  the girls were incredible, as usual.  shawn
mullins and indigenous were very good, and i loved the speakers, etc.

setlist:

redemption song (followed by a presentation and winona laduke)

get out the map
jonas & ezekiel
love's recovery
devotion
virginia woolf
reunion
leaving
go
closer to fine
kid fears
power of two
shame on you
galileo

encore with everyone:
bury my heart at wounded knee

indigenous was first, and i had heard that they were good and that their
guitar player was quite good, and that was an understatement.  he was
incredible.  i don't believe that i've ever seen someone as good as he is
who isn't.....i don't know...famous is a bad word for it, but you catch my
drift.  we was very, very good.  very similar in style to a stevie ray
vaughan.  i'm going to have to check a cd or two of theirs out.

i wasn't sure what to expect from shawn mullins, but he was very good, also.
he played solo, just him and an acoustic guitar.  he played some new stuff
and old and one or two covers,  i believe.  one of his new songs, something
to believe in, was great.  he had a great stage presence, a great smile, and
was just plain fun to listen to.  played a song that cracked me
up...."clarisse, please quit the klan" about a girlfriend who was a member
of the kkk.  fuckin' hilarious.  he did a cover of a mcmurtrey song (larry's
son) called where's johnny that was very poignant.  his style, songs and
presentation just sucked me right in.  i loved him.   he also thanked amy
and emily and told a story about when he first met amy.  she came to his
school for career day and sang romeo and juliet and strange
fire...hehe...said she burned a hole in the room with that one.  much better
than i expected from him.

the girls were incredible!  i've seen them 13 times in the last 3+ years,
and they just seem to get better.  this was the first time i've heard them
do reunion and kid fears, and only the second time for jonas & ezekiel.  the
high points of the evening were j&e, one of my favorite songs, and kid
fears.  shawn came out and took the michael stipe part, plus he sang my
favorite lines- "replace the rent.......the ones that you love."  it was by
far my favorite song of the evening.  i had tears in my eyes at the end,
when amy and emily were singing their parts, and shawn singing
his.....unbelievable.  it's moments like that, that fill me with wonder and
awe at what some people can do with their lives....their art.  i don't know
what else to say.....beyond words.  the crowd was sitting most of the night,
but that all changed when emily started closer to fine.  it cracks me up
that that song will bring everyone to their feet, singing, every damn time
they play it.  same thing with galileo.  for the encore, everyone came out
and played bury my heart.  indigenous' guitar player kicked ass;  emily
watched him approvingly during his two solos.  he also sang the verse that
jerry sang on curfews.  it was kind of weird how everyone was enjoying
themselves so much during such a disturbing song, but the artists were
having a blast on stage, too, so i guess it's okay...hehe.

all in all, it was an incredible evening.  the only bad part is that this
will probably be the last time i'll see them for quite some time.  i was
thinking about how bad it could possibly be to quit our jobs and follow the
girls around for awhile.  then i realized that it would be pretty damn
bad...heehee.

so i'll be a work tomorrow.

love and peace,
dan

hey, forgive me if this has been discussed, but do ig ever talk about
supporting the ralph nader/winona laduke campaign?  or is that off limits?
just curious, i am a big nader supporter and i know they are.

i gave amy some "bush and gore make me wanna ralph" bumper stickers at the
reservation rally in arlee, montana (my town).  she seemed pleased to have
them.  i gave some to bonnie raitts guitarist, too.

the cd's are free, and a lot of the stores are giving them away without
purchases, since there is not a high demand.  if you do not have a store,
all of the mp3's from the free promos are at my site below.

i went to the nader convention here in seattle last month and nader said
indigo girls were backing them. i also read recently where amy really like
nader/laduke. i am sooooooo torn this election cuz i'd vote for nader in a
second but the other race is sooooo close and this election determines who
will appoint the next 3-4 supremacist (cough) supreme court justices that i
just....i dunno who i'll vote for but i know who i'm voting against because
of this one issue!

ryan is correct as this is a difficult proposition.....

right now, bush/cheney leads gore/lieberman by around 4-5%.   nader is
clocked in at around 4-5%.   this is huge.

many points made by nader/laduke are quite valid; on many levels there is
little (if any) difference between the 2 major party candidates.

however, as a person who lives approx 1.5 miles fm i-95 (the hwy that the
nuclear waste would "roll-by"), please keep in mind the war (& not just the
battle) here....

this election is not just a civics lesson.....as ryan said, there will be
2-4 supreme court seats decided by the next president.    the religious
right has kept their voice somewhat muffled.  their prize for this
concession......those supreme court seats!

how quickly can one say "antonin scalia-clone"?

this country was founded on the concept of "majority rules with minority
rights".   that would go right out the window on many issues with a
"right-wing-heavy" supreme court.

please consider your vote very carefully.

thanks,

melissa

this article here:
http://www.citypaper.net/articles/101200/sl.slant.shtml
gives a pretty good account of how a vote for nader isn't a wasted vote.

the differences between bush and gore?
http://www.billionairesforbushorgore.com/analysis/

voting for the lesser of two evils is not what democracy is about...

not that i'm allowed to vote (21+, pay my taxes, not a convicted felon
etc...) yeah, we should send all the immigrants back where they came from
too :o)

political announcement from me.

may i direct anyone who is torn over this to:
http://www.michaelmoore.com/2000_07_18.html
its michael moore's writing about not falling for the supreme court thing,
esp the fear of repeal of roe v wade.

also, check out his other stuff on the topic.
www.michaelmoore.com

plus, nader/ladukes site has lotsa stuff, like "gore's broken promise of the
day"

"open letter to barney frank"  is from one of nader's high campaigners
http://votenader.org/press/letter-mclarty2frank.html

ok, off my political soap box.

carol
ps- if anyone wants me to send you a steady stream of nader/laduke stuff, i
could do that ;-)
i converted my friend this summer :)

20...dollars?!  for retro?! just for ten tracks with only two new

high for one cd. who they think we are? is that in canada? maybe that's

hey y'all,

wait, i am confused.  are people getting the wrong liner notes in the
retrospective as well?  i thought that problem was limited to the reissues.

i agree with everyone who is disappointed by the reproduction quality of the
reissues' liner notes.  my n*i*s notes are so blurry, i can barely read them.
yes, i agree that it is probably a very bad scan.  i haven't opened my
reissue of strange fire yet because stupid tower sent me the jewel case
version even though i had specifically ordered the digipak.  i have to
exchange it.

but i have to admit that i love the retrospective.  susan faludi has been one
of my favorite writers for quite a while now.  i loved her essay.  i loved
what the girls had to say about each song they chose.  and i love love love
leaving (especially) and devotion.

2 days till the chicago show.  less than a week till columbus.  2 ig shows in
one week.  hell yah!!!

i could also say a lot about why a vote for nader is not wasted, how it is
the only way to create change in the country.  how if nader gets his 5%, the
green party will gets a lot of federal funding in 2004 and get some real
leverage.  how you should think about the polls in your own state, and your
number of electoral votes, and if it is not close where you are, you can
vote for nader w/o worrying about any detrimental efffects.  in fact
tomorrow night i am speaking to the gay and lesbian group at the u of
montana as a rep of the nader campaign.  they will also have some democrat
and republican reps their, everyone talking about their candidates stance on
important issues.

i got a whole heated discussion started on the dar-list about this (dar is
also a nader supporter), and i didnt mean to do the same here.

i think the reason they dont talk about it on the hte tour is that wnona is
the founder of the hte organization, which, being non-profit, must be
non-partisan.

i like nader, but i just can't help but vote for gore just to keep the
buch thing from happening... the race is too close to divide the left
like that.  <sigh>

after spending some time in texas, i'm a big fan of nada-bush, myself.

for a good time, check out:
   http://www.speakout.com/votematch/default.asp

it's a poll that asks questions based on issues, then asks you to rate
the importance of certain types of issues (domestic vs. personal
vs. financial), then shows you how you stack up against the
candidates.  while it doesn't bring character into effect at all, it's
still a pretty neat tool.

hey melissa,

well one of the nice things i did in austin was go to a really nice
bookstore - i'm sure someone on the list will know. it wasn't huge but
it was well laid out with a fine staff. i can't remember the name,
though. i worked in the book biz for 10 years and love independent
booksellers. i know i used to know the name... shoot...

ok, the other thing i really liked was having ice cream at amy's. great,
nice people working behind the counter helped me post some extra ig
tickets i had for sale.

have fun,
kristen

i'm in colorado, which seems to be lining up behind george w. at this point.
never mind the front range is being hacked to death by gravel miners scraping
the view out of the mountains west of colorado springs. never mind that sprawl
is californicating the prairies with the rationale that "there's nothing
there..." never mind that colorado is near the bottom in funding for public
education.

never mind all that stuff. so voting nader in this state does nothing but place
another tick in the column for a real progressive, who deserves a shot at
federal funds and the platform that kind of money provides for a real voice for
change.

shame on al gore for losing my vote. shame on the democrats for forgetting the
folks they were supposed to be representing in their shot at the american dream.
shame on america for putting corporate profit and stock options ahead of health
care, child welfare and compassion.

i agree.  and i think that the indigo girls themselves would encourage
political dialogue.  whether you are voting for nader, gore, bush (ick!) or
buchanan (double ick!), it is important to be knowledgeable about the issues
and be able to defend your candidate (and your choice).  i have seen plenty
of nigc political type things posted here for as long as i have been on this
list.  i think that this is the perfect time to discuss politics.

i am still an undecided voter.  nothing will change my mind until election
day.  i agree that nader is an excellent choice, but i also agree that
splitting the leftist vote would be horrible in this election.  bush would be
the worst person for the job.  yes, nader would be the best, but i also need
to examine reality.  i want the greens to get that 5%.  i want someone like
nader to become president one day.  but as an extreme extreme extreme pro
choice activist, i think that this election is just too important to vote for
someone who has no chance of winning (this year).  if the polls are not close
on election day, i will happily and proudly vote for nader.  but if the polls
are close, i have to vote for the person who i think would be better for the
job.  so for me, it all depends on the polls (also, i still am registered to
vote in illinois, a major swing state.  i think it also depends where you
live).

anyway...

i just got this copy from a friend and i couldn't believe it when i saw
it:  those time slots that say "special guest"....well, guess who that
is?  winona laduke and janisse ray.  oh my gosh.  i'm freaking now.  i'm
totally going to be all over this event.  has anyone else read janisse
ray's recent book _ecology of my cracker childhood_?  if not, then read
it before this event b/c it will give you a good ole georgia perspective
of what "ecology" really means to southerners (at least that's what i
think).

hi all,

this is kind of nigc.  this is about the upcoming election.   i admit i have
never voted, i am a very bad american in that way, but i have decided to
vote from now on, but, i must say that any political issues that i have been
turned on to and any issue i support i believe stems from what i have heard
you all discuss and the issues that the girls support, and i now feel
stronger about voting than ever before.  my husband just pointed me in the
direction of ralph nater.  i am terrible about this kind of stuff and was
planning on voting for gore, because......well....... he is not bush and i
had no idea who nater was.  but now that i see who nater is, i can't believe
what i almost did.  it seems that everything that i believe he feels the
same way about.  anyway my friend says she wanted to vote for nater, but
because she is afraid bush will win she is voting for gore.  is this really
how it goes?  the girls say that your vote counts and i think it does, but
why would you use it to vote for someone in order to make sure someone else
doesn't win.  is it me or is that so backwards?  now i wonder how many
people will be voting like this.  i would be really interested to see how
listees are voting.  i respect everyone's opinion, just curious.  any

hey y'all,
i know i've procrastinated too long on this, but if
anyone has any help, that would be great...
i'm trying to find if anyone has the phone numbers (or
have an idea of where i can find them) for information
on the shows in nc at app. state and wake forest.  i
need to talk with someone in charge of the venue
itself, not just some student who answers phones at
the school.  and i really need to get in touch with
them asap!

i'm a senior in college majoring in audio recording
and i have an independent study project where i have
to go to concerts and interview the audio techs and
diagram the mic placement and all that good stuff.  i
figured maybe since these venues are colleges, they'd
be more likely to let me do this.  so if anyone has
the #'s or knows who i can talk to or any
ideas...please, please, please help me! i only have
till the end of this semester (about dec. 1) to finish
the project and i'm supposed to have done about 5
concerts.  and of course i've barely started.... :-)

thanks y'all for any help!!  :-)

sharon (who is praying she'll be able to graduate in
may despite her terrible lack of enthusiasm for school
this semester and her tendency to procrastinate)

i whole heartedly agree that ideally we would not be voting for "the lesser

however nader (unfortunately) will not be elected president in this year's
election. g.w. bush might be, and yes, that scares me.
out of the two candidates that have a realistic shot at the presidency i
support gore.

it finally happened, the computer geek experienced a full blown computer
meltdown that toasted my backup drive, thus destroying over 5 years of
saved email among other things.  one of the losses is my email addresses,
and i am trying to recreate as many as possible without this sort of
spam-begging.  however, if anyone has the current email address for the kim
the goddess - canadian cutie - please share it with me.  if you feel better
asking her first, please do - and tell her she owes me a letter too!  kim
has been a frequent poster here in the past but, like myself, has drizzled
to hardly any recently.  her sig has been things like "running with
scissors!", and such.  very cool person.  miss her terribly, probably owe
her an email or two (though she owes me too!), and i will throw my computer
into a vat of liquid nitrogen if i cannot get email addies like hers
back.  (yes i know her last name and even have her postal addy, but don't
feel comfy sharing that over the net.  if necessary i'll try to remember
how to use a stamp and mail her a note - won't she be shocked!!!)

for that matter, addies from the pnw-ers would be rockin' too.

this sucks.

get thee now a removable backup system, and do a backup.  hurry.  i thought
i was all backed up and safe, but even having a whole second drive for
backup doesn't guarantee safe backups.

center tickets with no one to take them. :(

if anyone from the list knows anyone who is in need of tickets, we're selling
our row mm seats (seats 415/417/419 center) for face value.. the concert is
tomorrow night and we would have to see the seats empty. :( therefore, please
give us a call on our cell phone at 708-343-2782 if anyone is interested and
we will gladly meet up before the show to exchange tickets for cash.

thank you.. and to all going to the show, have a great time. :) we'll be in
the first row pit, so if anyone on the list is in the pit too - say hi!

okay----for all those who care to read  and for those who read but don't
care---

i have rationalized the nader vote this way:

due to the fact that the electoral college is the main controlling factor
over the presidential race--being from minnesota---the state will go
"democratic"---and get behind gore....therefore regardless of me even voting,
my state will back "the lesser of two evils"----i, on the otherhand, will not.

if, on the rare chance that hell should freeze over, and all of the minnesota
representatives in congress get a bee up their butt and send minnesota the
republican way---i'll still feel great that i've given nader one more vote
towards the goal of 5%---let alone showing all of the unfit politicians out
there that people want a freaking change.

if those rationalizations fail---all policies go through congress---with the
exception of things that the supreme court can overturn---but then, those
aren't really policies...if we have a congress that is controlled by the
democrats--even if it's just one house---there will still be much debate and
leverage to keep policies more "centerist."  so, yippy....

vote your conscience.

on the subject of hte:

the mpls show rocked!!!!  second row seats---powerful, powerful stuff kids.
hadn't heard or even read the lyrics to the new stuff...holy shit.

later gators....
kara.

1.  closer to fine
2   go
3.  virginia woolfe
4.   get out the map
5      devotion
6    little darling?.  going home (?)
7.   ??????? (someone help , i  know there's a        song i'm missing.)
8.   galileo
9.   bury my heart at wounded knee

i'm on the welfare rights committee, and we
called hte to see if we could table, they couldn't give s permission but
they gave us all
free tickets to the show (  the one i talked to was sympathetic to the
cause, and promised to give amy a newsletter, and our statement of who
we are, and what we do.)

so my friends got to go, which is a real treat,  they can't afford the
shows, and pay rent. and
so we went together, came home together, but
i already bought a seat.  we all had a great tme. we all missed annie
humphrey, but everyone else was great....i enjoyed shannon, and david,
and (am i mistaken or was shawn mullins there too? i thought he was
playing right next to shannon on one song. i could be wrong as i have
never seen him and had only one tiny black and white  to go by.)

and i liked jackson, like most of the other artists, i am not familiar
with his stuff.  so i can't tell you all what they did.

i really like winona laduke, she is such a wonderful  speaker...i wish
she was running for prez  instead of ralph nader, but oh, well
i can't have it all.

my one little thing...they were rushed for time

sully  threw me a pick. (speaking of sully, david crosby, who sounded
wonderful,  i add,
likened her to xena's renee o'connor.  i can definetly see the
rsemblance)

amy is really looking good,  is she really that tall or is it just my
imagination?  emiy looked a little tired  tonight. but  she was right on
the money as usual.

well, it's late, and i had a rough night last night.

on c-span - gore tries to debate nader on october 20th

on friday, october 20th, from 8-9:30 pm eastern time,
judicial watch will host a nationally televised presidential
debate featuring six of the seven qualified presidential
candidates. john hagelin, al gore, ralph nader, pat buchanan,
harry browne, and howard phillips have all accepted--only
george w. bush has declined.

c-span has committed to televising the debate, and fox tv and
american voice radio are considering coverage. the debate will
be moderated by a highly respected journalist, and the panel will
be composed of other journalists from well-known national
newspapers--both liberal and conservative.

seven lecterns will be set up on stage--no matter who attends
the debate. each candidate will give an opening and closing
statement and will be asked questions by the panel in rotating
order.

the questions, while not set in advance, will reflect judicial
watch concerns about ethics in politics--bribery laws, corporate
control of government, independent counsel issues, etc.

about 600 people have been invited to the debate and to a
reception immediately following, including over 30 ambassadors
and their seconds-in-command, as well as the entire washington
press corps.

we urge everyone to watch this debate, which certainly promises
to be the most interesting and representative presidential debate
of the season. as always, please check your local listings for
up-to-the-minute scheduling; tv and radio news stations reserve
the right to make last-minute changes.

"if a baseball player slides into home plate and, right before the

"here is $1,000." what would we call that? we would call that a
bribe. if a lawyer was arguing a case before a judge and said, "your

is $1,000." what would we call that? we would call that a bribe. but

i'm not sure it's so surprising either. the girls have a way of releasing
stuff already released for (i guess) commercial gain. their regular fans
don't want to fall into the trap too often probably.

hello all.  one of our fellow listees, dovesland, lost everything she owned
in a fire this morning.  i am placing a call for help out to all of you on
her behalf.  i am coordinating a donation drive to purchase a gift
certificate to wal-mart for her so she can buy things like underwear, shoes,
blankets, dishes, etc.  (all those things that any one of us can easily take
for granted).  she lost all of her things -- cd's included so any of you who
would be willing to make boots for her let me know.  if you are interested
in helping out (even a dollar would help) please respond to this email or
email me at circuitgeek@hotmail.com

thank you,

i got this from the cnn website:

hollywood (reuters) -- "xena: warrior
princess" will vanquish her last enemy this
spring, when the popular syndicated show
ends its run after six seasons. firstrun
episodes will continue to air through
summer 2001.

although "xena," which is produced for
well north of $1 million per episode, is the
top-rated hourlong action show in
syndication, viewership has declined over
the years.

one reason for the erosion is that the prime time periods in which it was
launched are no longer available, said steve rosenberg, president of the
show's distributor, studios usa domestic tv.

since the advent of multinight programming on
broadcast networks the wb, upn and to a certain extent fox, "xena" and
similar shows no longer air in
primetime during the week.

instead, syndicated weeklies are relegated primarily to weekend
afternoons, when viewership is lower and the chances of preemption in favor of
sports and
other programming are high.

rosenberg also said that while no spinoff of "xena" is in the works, it is a
possibility down the line. and he's intent on continuing to work with the
show's
producers, renaissance pictures, and its star, lucy lawless, on future
projects.

lawless will likely talk publicly this week about her future, as she's slated
to appear on "rosie o'donnell" tuesday, as a co-host on "live! with regis" on
wednesday and on "conan o'brien" wednesday night.

"xena" topped the firstrun weekly action hour genre in the 1999-2000 tv
season, averaging a 3.3 national household rating. it airs on 200 tv stations,
reaching 99 percent of the united states.

xena's not on during prime time anymore, in some places?  hmmm, all i
know is that it's still very popular in the twin cities, and in fact,
was moved into the ten pm slot on sunday nights, and has stayed there
since. is ten on sundays considerred prime time?.

anyway, as a long time xenite, i will definitely miss the show. but  ole
xena's been sorry for her sins for so long, it's high time she and gabby
settled down to raise a family.  i like to see xena when's she's happy.

as much as i like to see her kick butt!

hello everyone.  i'm a little of a mess today.  just saw "boys don't cry"
and just heard about dovesland's apartment fire.  then, i think of what
i'll be doing this time next week!  i feel like i'm a little kid waiting
for a fun elementary school field trip while my homelife sucks ass.

we've got a group of people driving together from winston-salem to
atlanta early morning on the 28th (to get there to see all the great
speakers, i'm actually thinking of leaving really early, but i don't know
what everybody else thinks).  i would announce this on all the message
boards out there, but i dont' have internet access lately.  please don't
flame me for using the list for this.

if you are driving from winston-salem to atlanta on the 28th, come join
our traveling caravan of gypsies.  (i'm getting some crazy signs for my
truck.)

-cheebugger

ps.  if you do have internet access, could you please post this message
on all the message boards out there?  tell people to e-mail me at
cheebug@juno.com.  thanks fellow freaks.

pss.  i mean i'm really messed up b/c of that movie.  weird how such a
movie can hit you when it resembles your own life in some ways.
sometimes i get scared but sometimes i just turn the other cheek.  i'm
finding it hard to do that lately.  i have got to get out of this redneck
town.

not too long ago i found a wendy bucklew cd (rage in the ring, a
1990 re-release) in the bargain bin at my local indie record store. i
recognized the name from early days of indigo and figured "hell, even if
she sucks, i can live without the $2.97 this will set me back."

listen #1: wow, this is pretty good. probably worth the $2.97.
listen #2: wow. this is *really* good. i'm glad i bought this.
listen #3: why on earth didn't i go chasing after wendy bucklew as soon as
           i heard her name?

although she isn't much like ig, i think a lot of y'all would
really appreciate her. her music is very spare - kind of like an edgier
patty griffin. in fact, she's all the things i like about patty griffin
minus all the things i don't. and come to think of it, she came first. so
i guess patty griffin is a schmoopier wendy bucklew.
so folks, take a minute and stop by her website (wendybucklew.com,
surprising as that may seem) - there are song clips from a couple of
different albums posted. there's also a photo of wendy with amy ray... or
maybe that's on lisa's page o'pictures. i forget. it's a cute photo. but
anyway, the igc alone should be reason enough to visit the website and
give the song clips a try - the music itself will probably keep you there.

        mandy,
as always, with the hard sell

so go ahead, push your luck
say what it is you gotta say to me
we will push on into this mystery

paul simon's original recording wasn't a capella and neither was the other,
perhaps even more famous, version he sang with art at the concert in central
park in 1981 (and from which the wonderful 'attack of the killer b-sides'
paul/art/amy/emily quartet version is faked...)

okay, i just had to comment on this because i found it so funny that you

i found it funny and had to share!  thanks for the chuckle today!

subject:      chicago hte show (long)
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
content-transfer-encoding: 7bit

hey y'all,

i would have posted last night, but we got home late.

all i can say is "i am amazed."  amazed at the entire honor the earth
experience.  the indigo girls rocked as usual, but just being at an honor the
earth show (i missed the entire '97 tour) was an experience that i can't
quite describe.  i have been an hte supporter for years now (and becky, who i
went with, was so into the cause as well), so the show just really tied
everything together for us.

becky and i arrived at the chicago theater at around 4:30pm.  we heard
soundcheck from the lobby.  the sound quality was amazing.  we only heard the
girls' sound check.  they played devotion, nueva senorita, and philosophy of
loss.  awesome.

later (as we were walking around downtown trying to grab a bite to eat), we
saw sulli outside.  we were going to just walk by (knowing that she has to be
busy before a show), but she stopped us (she must've remembered us from eku
where we were hanging out with her after the show after the busses and trucks
were all packed).  it was cool.  we asked her if our seats were good, and she
said that they were.  cool.  while she was setting up right before annie
humphries, she looked out to wave at us.  way cool.

let's see, the actual show....as many of you know, this year the main issues
at stake are the killing of the buffalo and the transporting of nuclear waste
across the midwest and then just dumping it onto native land. pretty sick,
right?  annie humphries opened up.  she was very good.  i had not really
heard of her before hte.  she is a native american out of the minneapolis
area.  lovely voice, and her strong spirit was a wonderful addition to hte.

david crosby was up next.  so funny.  and talented.  he made a comment that
he had barrowed emily's guitar (sulli was also teching for david.  she coined
him as an "honorary lesbian."  that was funny.) so he had to be really
careful.  then, something blew.  so he continued the song totally "sound
free."  no guitar.  just him singing acapella.  wow.  afterwards, the sound
was fixed, and he continued his set.  later, he invited emily up to do a song
with him.

after david, there was an intermission.  we were reminded to fill out our
action cards and give them to the card collectors in the lobby.

after the intermission, the girls played "redemption song."  then they showed
a the a movie.  the movie was so powerful.  ulali sang in the background to a
series of images, many of them hard to view.  after the movie came the
speakers, one of the highlights of the show.  winona laduke spoke.  that
woman has it together.  the subjects of the speeches were mainly about the
issues at stake.  but in illinois, they tended to focus on the trasportation
of nuclear waste because illinois is one of the states this stuff will be
transported through.  basically, environmentally damaging and dangerous
nuclear waste will be coming right through chicagoans' backyards.  i also
learned that at the lyons (france), the "powerful" nations added nuclear
power onto their list of "clean sources of enrgy," given nations that use and
produce this kind of power "credits."  i was extermely disheartened to hear
that japan signed this treaty.  after hiroshima and nagasaki, japan likes to
pride itself on being nuclear power free.  anyway, i am not going to get into
that on this list because i could ramble on for hours since i have a lot of
personal ties to japan, and still feel a sense of responsbility to hiroshima
(not just the actual dropping of the bomb, but the education and pleas for
peace that contuine until this day).

anyway...i am digressing.  after the speakers, jackson browne took to the
stage.  i hadn't really heard any of his stuff before, but i thought he
sounded great.  becky and i also liked how he played requests from the
audience.  at one point, he had his guitar all tuned up and ready for a song.
someone yelled out a request (there were a few big time jackson fans there
which just added to the coolness of his set) and he put down his guitar and
walked over to the piano to play it.  i also liked hos political his songs
were.  he played one song which he had written about central america, but can
really be about the united state's policy to any other nation.  (does anyone
know the title of that one?).  at the end of his set, david crosby joined
him.  those two have obviously played many benefits together and had become
friends.  their bond was really cool.

the girls were on after david crosby.  the setlist:  gone again, the wood
song, devotion, love's recovery, chickenman, leaving, shame on you, get out
the map, nueva senorita, galileo (w/ jackson browne), and bury my heart at
wounded knee (with all).  10 songs total.  a great setlist.  let's see.  no
one was standing.  so during shame on you, becky and i just got up and
started dancing (yes, we were the two down in the second row (not pit,
though)...the only two standing for a while).   before nueva senorita, amy
told a story about how the women in chiapas go to make textiles.  since they
can not stockpile (not enough money), every year, they have to start over.
on their way to leave to make the textiles, it is very dangerous for them.
they often get harassed and even raped.  after hearing that, nueva senorita
takes on a different meaning for me.  oh, and the girls brought carol issacs.
great to see her again.  the girls themselves were really upbeat and chatty.
at one point, they both cracked up.  amy (i think!  but it could have been
emily...i forgot) made a comment how they have been playing together for 20+
years and can still entertain each other.  oh, and amy talked about her
beloved university of chicago coffee cup.  but then she whispered into the
mic "it's really tea."  :-)   the highlights of the set for me were leaving
(and now, unlike berkeley, i actually knew the correct words.  hehe), nueva
senorita, love's recovery, and of course bury my heart at wounded knee
(sounded great acoustically).

after the show, becky and i waited by the busses.  we had to talk to sulli
again (we had this note...).  and i wanted the girls to sign my n*i*s cd (the
original, not the remaster).  the girls did come out and sign stuff.  i was
excited, but it;s not like i haven't met them before.  besides, the crowds
outside were big.  so as soon as becky and i found sulli (who told us to give
the letter directly to a or e, because <wink> they would be coming out that
door soon...security had lied as usual...) and got a and e to sign my cd
cover (which means a lot to me to finally have my n*i*s signed because that
is my favorite cd by far, and the cover is in such horrible condition since i
had it since 1990), we just left.  i am not sure how long amy hung around
(emily signed stuff and got right on the bus), because when we left, there
were still heaps of people there.

anyway, what a great night!  this was one of the best shows i have ever seen,
not necessarily just the girls, the entire experience.  it was so amazing.  i
still can't believe that i finally attended an hte show.  on saturday night,
i have columbus to look forward to, and that will be my last ig show for
quite sometime.  sulli told becky and i that they were probably going to take
about a year off.  amy may tour with the butchies next year, though!

ok, seeing how long this post is, i am going to end it here.  thanks for
reading.

:-) karen

hkf! i just had a little something to share-- i am in school here at u of a
and 2 of my roomates and i are in the same sorority-- anyhow the 3rd roommate
is in a different sorority and we all just had our fall cocktail
parties....which of course are noted by the events t-shirts. well my roommate
came in and she had on a shirt that had van gough's "starry nights" and the
caption of the t-shirt said, "i could go crazy on a night like tonight." of
course she had no idea where the quote came from but i sure as heck let her
know real fast :) <she is sensitive to my indigo obsession...> i thought is
was really neato. also wrax is birmingham's big rock station and they feature
a morning show on sunday's that is the "lighter side of alternative" or so
they say-- anyhow the past two weeks they have featured "leaving" as one of
their big air play songs. yea! i was all excited and thought i'd pass along
the info. y'all have a great night! takce care-- ashley

i'm thinking of taking my gf to sedona for her birthday in december. does
anyone on the list have any suggestions as to where to hike, play, stay,
etc.? most likely we'll fly into phoenix and rent a car.

what can i expect from the weather in late dec.?

neither of us has been to arizona, so all suggestions are welcome - we
don't *have* to go to sedona, it just looks fun and the airfare to phoenix
is pretty reasonable.

please reply off list.

thanks,

thanks for the hotel advice.  after much searching, we settled on
staying at the omni at the cnn center.  the rates are pretty steep
compared to what we're used to, (we pride ourselves on our cheapness)
;-), but we managed to snag a really good deal for friday and saturday
nights.  we decided that we would rather stay right on the park, so that
we didn't have to deal with navigating around atlanta too much,  about
finding parking, and we would be close to the hotel in case of an
emergency.  this is the first time ever that richard and i are getting
away without our children, and we're just a tad nervous about it, so
being close to our hotel the majority of the time we're going to be away
will hopefully give us some small sense of security.  if this is not
such a good idea (unsafe area to stay in, etc.) please let me know in
time to try to make other reservations!  once again, any help is greatly
appreciated!

also, we will be in atlanta in time for dinner friday,  and plan on
trying to make watershed for dinner.  we also plan on hitting the flying
biscuit for sunday brunch before leaving town.  anyone interested in
meeting up (we'll also be at the listmeet), email me privately.

it's gorgeous and well worth your while. only about two or three hours
from phoenix. red rocks, green trees. christmas is a good time, at
los abrigados resort they have all these lights, it's really pretty (watch
out though, they might try and sell you a timeshare). :)

arizona weather varies widely, it could snow, or it could be pretty nice.
bring a jacket for sure though.

oak creek canyon is the big attraction there. but it's all beautiful.
you'll find plenty to do - you can pretty much drive anywhere and
find beautiful places to hike. and there's tons of galleries and
shops if you like that sort of thing.

go see erin - she's great - and if you see her this friday night in
annapolis, well, i'll be playing at that show, too.
somebody mentioned wendy bucklew today - i have to voice my opinion  of her
too - she is an amazing live performer (and doesn't play enough these days-
or at least not on the east coast) and her cds are
wonderful.(http://www.wendybucklew.com)
other people of note: patty larkin is playing in annapolis next week
(http://www.pattylarkin.com)
mary gauthier is playing everywhere, all the time - she is very country, and
very cool -i've never seen such a busy tour schedule
(http://www.marygauthier.com)
rebecca riots are wonderful if you like old-school ig harmonies - they're on
the west coast right now (http://www.rebeccariots.com)
eliot bronson is a friend of mine with a david wilcox style, gorgeous
guitar-work, and a beautiful smile. he's going to take the folk world by
storm sometime very, very soon. (http://www.electrobus.com/eliot)
sonia is back in the us after her australian tour. (http://www.soniadf.com)
she'll be everywhere, too - seattle for rockrgrl (as will michelle malone,
melissa ferrick, etc etc etc - i'll be there to cheer them all on);
tennessee (i'm opening - nov 16), georgia (eddie's attic -nov 18).
just thought i'd share some musical recommendations -

sarah pinsker
shameless plug - upcoming tourdates for me in baltimore, annapolis, johnson
city (tn), asheville, chapel hill, fredericksburg, etc. can be seen at

is under renovation.

hey everyone,

did anyone happen to catch this weeks episode of the "west wing'?'  well, let
me tell you this: major support to the gay community and a major poke at that
"dr." laura person.

the dialogue was lifted from that internet response that quoted the old
testament about touching the skin of a dead pig and if you should burn your
wife for wearing 2 different types of thread. you all get the point.

i sat in my chair and cheered as martin sheen ripped into this substitute for
the real radio dr. it was unexpected and amazing.

sorry for the nigc.. but i guess you had to be there.

ok,  we didn't get home until 2:30, so this review is gonna be short.

they played (not in any order, believe me)
redemption song
get out the map
go
gone again
power of two
some ? song about a native women who died in columbia
closer to fine
galileo (with jackson browne)
johnny rotten
chickenman (with some other short song inside of it)
devotion
phil. of loss
everything in its own time (is that the actual title of that song? sorry,
haven't listened to sots in a while)
and there was possibly another song, but maybe someone else who went knows.

we were in the bleachers, with sounds kinda crappy (but what did we expect?
my gf only bought tickets like 7 hours before the show.)  the view was one of
the best i've had of them, but that's probably not saying much.

during anne humpries (is that right at all?) set two very annoying women
behind us were making fun of her.  i kind you not.  i shouldn't make any
judgments, but grr....they were total femme-bots.  they both probably got
their hair and nails done before the show.    when anne (annie?) said
something about the feather on her guitar is not like jewel's, they
spritzheads said, "sure it's not, honey."  they also disappeared during
jackson browne's set, so it was fine by me.

we had a bevy of jackson browne guy fans around us...which was kinda funny.
at the end of every song they cheered "woo jackson-yeah."  it was funny.

during the ig's set, amy broke a thumbnail pretty far down.
then the discussed jackson's ability to grow long nails, and amy said, 'he's
a handsome man." and emily agreed.  then amy said "i don't know why i said
that.  weird night."   (:
also, to introduce "go", amy said, "this song is about our southern high
school tour and how they banned us 'cause we're gay.  but the kids were real
cool and came out to free concerts elsewhere, and had signs and protests."

winona laduke's speech made me cry.

we waited out by the tour bus with sheryl jones and a few others
(who's an incredibly cool lady, by the way (: )  it was almost one before my
gf and i gave up.  but we did hear that amy was still inside playing her
guitar in the locker room (not sure if there is any truth to that story or
not.)

fashion
amy had on a rhinestone bedecked blue button down shirt.  and those blue
stretchy pants (or maybe jeans, but i don't know.)
emily was especially cute and had on adorable flared bluejeans and a dark
tshirt with a dark open button down shirt.
we heard that amy had her shirt unsnapped pretty far, but we didn't get to
see that.

i personally think amy was in a hands-off/prickly sort of mood, and that
might have been why they didn't sign anything or chat with the fans.
emily did say thanks to us as she walked past us en-route to the bus.
jackson stopped to chat, but didn't sign anything.

woo.

it must have been nbc's night against dr. laura - on
law & order last night there was a doctor the defense
called, and under cross examination sam waterston's
character pointed out that her doctorate was not in
psychology, the disorder she spoke of was identified
by her and was not recognized by the american
psychiatric association.  and the wardrobe people did
a good job of making a visual similarity to dr. laura.

folks,

sorry for the nigc, this just seems like the right place..

i was watching er tonight, and what an excellent episode.  the conclusion
had some beautiful background music.  it was an amazing female vocalist, and
touching lyrics.  i can't remember the words, and i have no idea who was
singing; i would imagine a few people on the list watched tonight, and it
seems like our kind of music.

does anyone know who this was and what the name of the song was?

please help me out, i am going crazy (y'all know how it is:-)

aol chief donates $8 million to church that funds ex-gay ministry
by barbara dozetos, gay.com network
the church that received a large donation from the case foundation
announced who the donor was monday.
america online chairman steve case and his wife, jean, donated over
$8
million last month to a school run by the rev. james kennedy, whose
church
also sponsors anti-gay programs including the "ex-gay ministry" worthy
creations.
jean case graduated from the westminster academy in 1978.  the coral
ridge presbyterian church in fort lauderdale, fla., sits adjacent to the
school.  according to its web site, "it exists primarily to educate the
children of coral ridge families."
among its other ministries, the church lists worthy creations, which
"provides a way out of the gay lifestyle for those who desire to change."
this program and the church's center for reclaiming america, run by janet
folger, launched the summer 1999 national ad campaign thanking sen. trent
lott and pro football player reggie white for their public anti-gay
views.
eighteen other right-wing organizations, including the family
research
council and the christian coalition, joined in to fund the "truth in
love"
ex-gay ad campaign, featuring anne paulk, wife of john paulk.  he was
removed
last month from his position as chairman of the conversion ministry

international after he was spotted in a gay bar in washington, d.c.
jean case is ceo of the $135 million case foundation, which has a
pattern of giving money to pro-youth and family-oriented causes.

actually phillip this does have ig content...i heard that song for the first
time at the no nukes benefit the igs did in dc several years ago.   the song
is called sand and water and is by beth nielsen chapman(who signed my guitar
as well as amy and emily at the reception following the show) and she said as
i recall that she wrote it for her husband who she watched die(from cancer i
believe)       very poignant and beautiful

you may want to start listening to your cool local radio stations
(unfortunately, atlanta has none), because leaving is being released a
single.  it is being sent out as a one-track promo to radio stations.   the
track on it is taken directly from the cd, so it's nothing extra special, but
hopefully it will get played on the air!

the slogan is actually on the salt anymore though.

i'm gonna be leaving the ypsi/arbor area around maybe 7 am, so i'll be there
around 11 maybe.

also...will there be a list meet afterward?
i wil suggest waffle house, for the memories of lilith fair...there's one on
i-71 a few exits north of the newport, if the map isn't messing with my
head.  i'm gonna go there anyway i think because i'm meeting friends there
after they go see barenaked ladies.
(i wonder how many people had to pick between shows?)

awww, man...every time somebody says something about paris i get all
misty-eyed.

unfortunately they would only be good for baseball or smacking roommates

oh, one of my favorite elton songs - aw, everything they did pre-1976
can be categorized as a favorite . . . . and you probably know this, but
i think it was bernie taupin who wrote all of elton's song lyrics, and
elton who wrote the music.

of course -- one of the greatest songwriting collaborations of all

girlfight.

really nice, obsessive little independent film.
all about what you do to make yourself who you are... what you pay to get
there, what it costs for real, and what you learn in the process.

i'm a fan of martial arts and have once in awhile participated, however
i do have
concerns about boxing on a variety of levels - many of them demonstrated
in the
living, breathing and barely moving presence of muhammad ali, sadly
enough.

girlfight (the contender under examination) moves on a variety of
metaphorical
levels that make it interesting. i don't find black eyes and bloody
noses particularly
compelling without a kick-ass story to prop it up.

there's a long list of war stories that are probably driven by
ritualized violence,
and a lot of music - simon and garfunkel's "the boxer", and most of
hemingway,
that wouldn't get a read if they were excused from consideration on the
basis
of ritualized violence.

hi everyone!

bethany, her fiance and i will be making our appearance late in the day, as
they both have to work until 5 or so. here's our problem: we obviously can't
get there until close to show time, and we can't pick up our tickets at the
will call until 6. are we going to get completely screwed on seating?? i've
heard it's a really small venue, so we shouldn't have too much trouble
regardless, but still... i'm jealous of all y'all who get to wait in line
all day... i was hoping to relive a little bit of dickenson--minus the
driving rain, of course. :)

as far as a list meet, i'm not sure what our plans are, but i think it'd be
fun! we all live about 15 minutes away from the theatre, so we're pretty
much game for whatever.

i can't wait! i haven't seen them since last year in dayton!

i'm gonna be leaving the ypsi/arbor area around maybe 7 am, so i'll be there
around 11 maybe.

also...will there be a list meet afterward?
i wil suggest waffle house, for the memories of lilith fair...there's one on
i-71 a few exits north of the newport, if the map isn't messing with my
head.  i'm gonna go there anyway i think because i'm meeting friends there
after they go see barenaked ladies.
(i wonder how many people had to pick between shows?)

hey all... i think meeting at the waffle house after the show would be a great idea.
because of some folks going to the pre-show, it may be hard to get together beforehand, so
anyone interested in meeting up after the show could meet at the waffle house... the
problem is... which one!!  i think after lilith we met at the waffle house off of 70 at
brice road... but there are two of them there.  but, it would make more sense to meet at
one on the northside off of 71 since we're all coming from different directions.  anyone
know the closest one to the newport?  i know there's a tj's on high street...

any thoughts anyone?

many people are voting this way, yes. but we do have
to deal in reality, folks. we have to have a handle on
who appoints our next supreme court justices. and
realistically, nader ain't gonna be it. bush becoming
president is the absolute nightmare scenario. we can't
allow it to happen. anyone who is going to vote for
nader would have voted for gore is forced to choose
between the bush and gore. so are you "throwing your
vote away?" no. are you "making a stand?" definitely.
but are you going to elect bush in the process? quite
possibly! it's your vote and he'll be your president.

i agree that voting for nader and taking a stand is a
nice idea. and i would certainly do that if i was
certain that the homophobic, spoiled, rich kid would
not get the presidency. but it's kinda close so i have
to put ideology aside and deal with reality.

i just spoke to someone regarding this whole thing with a vote for nader being a vote for bush...and his response was that in certain states, like connecticut, where i am, you can vote for nader and it not affect the bush/gore thing whatsoever.  it is simply a vote for ralph nader and if there are enough votes for him he gets more funding and the possible chance of a third party in this country.  that, however, leaves me torn...george w. bush scares the shit out of me.  nader has no chance at all of becoming president...that leaves gore.  i'm not a big fan but he's better than bush, in my eyes.  so, do i vote for nader...and let gore fight it out without my vote...or do i vote for gore in the hopes that it might help him beat dubya?  west wing needs to cover this so i understand it!!!

ok, i wasn't going to add anything to this argument, but then i found this
passage in the socialist worker :

"the lesser evil is still evil.  vote for nader.
every four years, the cry is the same.  vote for the dem or you'll get a
rep--vote for the lesser evil, or you'll get even worse.  but this approach
to politics weakens our [the green party/nader] side.  it allows politicians
of both parties to drag the whole political spectrum to the right.  working
people have the power to make all politicians pay attention to our demands,.
but they'll never make full use of that power as long as every four years
they give their votes to a party that serves big business.  this year,
there's a real alternative to the left of the dems.--nader.    nader's
campaign is organized around attacking corp.  greed and the two parties'
strangle hold over us politisc.s  don't be fooled by the claim that a vote
for nader is a vote for bush.  a vote for nader is a vote against a political
system where the politicians of both mainstream parties say one thing--and
deliver another."

just something to think about.
never "settle" for anything.

the real concern in my opinion is making our voices heard. in voting for
nader, i am making it possible that 3rd party candidates will be heard.
maybe not in this election, but possibly in the next. by voting for bush or
gore, you're giving them the message that you support their conservative
views (i say "their" because gore supports the death penalty and no gay
marriage as does bush). the only way to escape the political push towards
the right is to vote for nader and prove that america does not want what we
are being offered by the 2 party system.
don't let the fear that your vote "won't count" stop you from voting for
nader! please! that fear is planted by the 2 party system that fears the
awesome power that you have over them! use your power (ok, i was really
tempted to say "use the force," because i know how cheesy all of this
sounds). don't vote  because you're afraid, vote because you believe in
something.

that's my .02...i had been promising myself i wouldn't get involved, but i
just couldn't help it. we can make a difference!!!!!

it's this kind of paranoia that gives votng for the lesser evil a bad
name.  bush is not going to institute the death penalty for
homosexuals.  his running mate doesn't want his daughter
killed.  recall that in the veep debates dick cheny came out in favor
of allowing same sex marriages.

i think that because of the work of previous 3rd party candidate campaigns,
we are actually on the verge of this happening.  nader has gotten a lot more
coverage than any 3rd party candidate i remember, and i think that's a very
good sign.

also, (i hope i don't offend anyone, but) i think it's wrong to use the
excuse that the 2 party system is too powerful--and therefore we can't make
a change.  this has happened throughout history: what if people had said 'oh
well, slavery is bad, nothing we can do about it' instead of starting the
underground railroad or at least trying to make a difference.

we are barely even a true democracy anymore! doesn't this bother anyone?

while gore does not support gay "marriage" he does support the idea to call
it something else and give benefits to those parties.. be it domestic
partnership or whatever.
at least he believes imo that we have a right to exist. while bush thinks we
are all freaks and should be sent to some island (though he never stated
that, )

the sad part about it is throughout the year, i haven't even heard anything
about the 3rd party until right before the election, it seems to me at least
that they don't get the message of their platform out there until it is
almost time to vote.. and i have felt that way about them for a while.. if
they really want the changes, then why don't they work harder on making
people aware of them.
yes, by voting 3rd party you and others will be heard perhaps in the next
election, but in the meantime what are we left with?
i've met al gore, i like al gore, and while in any political candidacy, they
are going to say and do what is necessary to get votes.. i believe that he
has the interests of the country in mind, while from what i have seen of
bush, he is more concerned with his "posse" of the rich and priviledged
getting benefits. so i guess it's a wait and see thing..
i applaud your efforts to get a 3rd party elected, and if i honestly believed
that there was a chance in tartarus that that party could get elected, i
would vote for them, i just don't think there is enough support there and the
chances of those votes helping gw bush get into office scares me.

there are a couple of responses i want to make. the first one is that
presidents are elected on a state-by-state basis. you have to look at the
race in you state and decide if gore or bush has so much support that
"realistically" the votes of nader supporters can't change the result. if
so, it's an easy to decision to vote for ralph and start building the green
party. if the race is close, then you have a real choice to make.

my second response is why does the moral onus fall necessarily fall on us to
do the "right thing." if gore and lieberman weren't corporate whores who had
sold their souls for power, we'd be willing to vote for them. hell,
lieberman is running for his senate seat as well as vice-president. if he
wins both, he'll have to quit the senate and allow the republican governor
of conn. to appoint a replacement. this is our bulwark against right-wing
extremism? if you gore supporters who believe that nader is the best
candidate would vote that way, he'd be in the white house.  now because they
sold out and you went along, it's up to us to save the country from bush.

third, why are you so sure that bush could destroy the country in four
years? reagan and bush couldn't do it twelve.  i'm not sure the shrub can
read, let alone change the nature of our country. it does mean that us
progressives would have to get off our asses and fight. are we willing to go
down the the local clinic and get arrested rather than stop allowing women
the right to chose? are we willing to sit on juries and acquit those
protesters? are we willing to go to our legislatures and demand that
abortion be legal? if we can answer yes and really mean it, it doesn't
matter who sits on the court.

in response to "why not bush?":

hmm let me count the ways  . . .
first off i don't see how any woman can vote for bush - he has a horrible
record in texas of cutting funding for women's crisis organizations, planned
parenthood is against him b/c he supports "abstinence only" sex-ed in
schools. not to even mention his anti-choice stance . . .
when asked about the "violence against women" act currently in congress, he
said he had not heard of it!!!!
he does not support the brady bill - he is endorsed by the nra!
furthermore he is all for oil drilling in alaska national parks and more
foresting of orgeon's national forests . ..
okay okay i'll stop, but personally i also feel the man is a horrible
speaker (bumbling - yes!) and would be embarassed to have him representing
our country!

p.s. as for having my vote (for gore) count - the way i see it, its not just
"a fear vote" for keeping bush out - it counts towards gore - who is much
more supportive of women, minorites, and middle class america.

yes, gore has supported vermont's plan, but in a
republican congress it will never pass.  the president
is not the all-powerful being people make him out to
be.  the people of this country have more than just
the power of a vote.  use your voice, your time, your
resources to fight for what you believe in rather than
living in fear of what the next president could do.
organize and stop him.

yup!  i saw it!  i loved seeing ig mentioned on
providence like that...if a man wanted to take me on
an ig date (roadtripping to boston for an ig show?!
hello how could ya turn that one down! haha) i would
*have* to say *yes* - i cant believe she said no to a
date like that!?  phew.  what a relief to hear ig
mentioned on a show instead of some pop/top 40
artist...thank you providence!  *clapping*

take it easy,
sunnygirl
