hey folks,

i found this review on billboard.com...

----begin article---
indigo girls
retrospective
producer(s): various
epic 61602
genre: pop
vital reissues
originally reviewed for week ending 10/21/00

fifteen years ago, pals amy ray and emily saliers set
out to prove that there was still room for good ol'
fashioned folk/pop in the contemporary rock landscape.
they may have never gotten their full due at radio, but
they've successfully connected with the world at large,
drawing the ardor of millions with finely crafted tunes
that reverently reference arlo guthrie and joni mitchell
while also displaying the soul of modern renegades.
"retrospective" effectively traces their career, from the
haunting ray epic "strange fire" to saliers' romantic,
shoulda-been-a-smash "power of two." along the way,
we witness their evolution from raw acoustic strumming
to richly layered electric instrumentation. at all times,
ray and saliers have remained consistent, often poetic
lyricists -- with an incredible knack for tightly woven
harmonies. diehards will quibble at the exclusion of
several key cuts, like ray's brilliantly psychedelic
"swamp ophelia" and her heart-wrenching "blood and
fire," as well as saliers' wonderfully literate "virginia
woolf." but that's a minor complaint, especially in light
of the inclusion of two well-conceived new tunes that
build a firm bridge into the future for this exceptional act.

hey folks,

looks like we're back.  i'm gonna say a couple of things.

the list was not shut down on purpose.  i know this for a fact.
i've just (finally) found time to properly go through the list
setup - there was an error in one of the config settings which
was causing all mail to be bounced to the moderator for
approval, which anyone who's tried to post to the list during
the past couple of weeks will know.  this was not deliberate -
the error was very easy to miss (i know because i missed it the
first few times i looked).  anyway, it's fixed now.

what i don't know, however, is where jen's been... i take it
she's without email access at the moment, since the problem
went unfixed for so long...

anyway.  we're back, so let the ig-talk recommence...

courtney love makes a surprise appearance at rockrgrl fest

nov 6, 2000, 12:10 pm pt

courtney love made a surprise appearance on the last day of the
rockrgrl music conference 2000 (rmc), held thursday (nov. 2)
through saturday (nov. 4) at seattle's renaissance madison
hotel, holding a q&a session with an expectant crowd.

it was an exuberant ending to a event that drew over 2,500
people from around the world for a weekend of panels focusing
on women's issues in the world of rock, appearances by over 200
bands, and several notable guest speakers.

[...]

keynote speeches were delivered friday and saturday by ronnie
spector and the indigo girls' amy ray, respectively. the former
ronettes' speech chronicled her often turbulent career, with
occasional snatches of song ("you didn't think i'd fly 6,000
miles and not sing for you!"). ray also performed a song from
her upcoming solo album, as well as addressing the importance
of supporting one's community.

[...]

rmc attendees agreed that the smaller-scale, low-key
atmosphere (in contrast to big conferences like cmj) gave the
event a warmth and friendliness that made it easy and exciting
to exchange ideas. and though desantis laughingly said "the two
words i don't want to hear now are 'next year'!" on rmc's last
night, it's certain there will be a call for rmc to return.

while the list was down, the pioneer press came out with an article that
not ony covered a few of the acts that were in the twin cities, but
reviews of cd's as well.  this was an email meant for mi rinda kovacs,
but i think you'll all like it too. it  even reviewd hte oct.16th mpls
show. being the girls never get any reviews here, that's progress, (i
don't agree with jim walsh. but you decide.)

here's the article that mentios ig and has their concert photo all over
the front page of the express section,  pioneer press. i just found it.
it's very looooooooooooong. it took me a few hours to typ it all. i hope
you like it.  if you want to cut to the chase i put*** by ig so you can
skip all this and go directly to the paragraph..

rigby, case, and coldplay kept october rockin',

by jim walsh, staff columnist

"tipper rocks."
that is the democrats' latest, most desperate  campaign slogan, intended
to woo te "woman vote." well, let me be the the last to say tat tipper
does not rock, never has, and t should be illegal to put those two words
together in any fashion. rod grams' mom rocks harder than tipper gor.
cadavers and infants too.

besides, sllogans like that one, lie so much of this political
season, are just plain insulting. whatever happened to dreaming,
thinking bbig,
and working hard, being challenged; stuff like, "ask not what your
country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" and "some
people see things and ask "why?" i see things and ask "why not?"

which is why, these days, musicians are more ispirational than
politicians. for the most part anyway.

*necko case (oct 13, 7th st entry)  i've seen this hicago-base
singer/songwriter twice, and both times she nailed every jaw in the
joint to the floor.  before this show, she groused about not having
enough time to work on her art projects, (she has a degree in art.)

but  as i stood there watching herget lost in moment after moment on
stage, and that voice took over her body, and the room, it was evident
that singig is what she was meant to do, te gifts she should be giving
back to the world.

her friend/fellow singer/sometime bandmate, kelly hogan describes her
as "a force of nature," and that and her records only begin to tell the
tale.  as a live singer, case has a wy with soul, intonation, mystery,
phrasing, timbre, feelig and pitch, and that rarest oquality--of  being
completely in-te-moment---like no one else of her generation.

how did my pal brian put it? "it's like watching janis joplin in
texas in 1968"  he wasn't drunk, he wasn't prone to exaggerations, and i
couldn't have said it better myself.

*amy rigby (oct 19th, 7th st entry)
backed by a band that looked like it had been hired just a few hours
before the show, rigby delivered a batc of spiteul, spunky off-the-cuff
songs about divorce, heartache, and survival that was highlighted by an
obviously cathartic reading of "rode hard," the est song off her latest
album, "the sugar tree."

and while the music was the biggest draw, he five-miute stand-up bit
in which she told every drummer joke she could think of (her ex-husband
is former db's drummer,  will rigby) was nothig short of hilarious. for
nondrummers, that is.

   *coldplay, "parachutes" (nettwork america)
the next best thing in britpop, these lads traverse the same dark shades
that travis and radiohead do, but with ringing guitars, sanguine lyrics
and instant intimacy.

*jake wisty and the centeurions,"we will destroy u" (streamline)  it
could be, but the title is not in reference to vengeful king david
stern's judgement against our wolves, who should , a longwith we the
bobblehead fans, now get plastered with "us against the world" tattoos.
instead, this is is simply good old-fashioned rock 'n soul, made b
bar-band veterans who sound like survivors of a who-jam 12 -step program
who've reclaimed the term "classic rock" as their own.

*southern culture on the skds, "liquored up and laquered down" (tvt)
cheesy, sure, but, these guys spit out some wonderful songs about being
drunk and lonesome,  which is always a good thing. if there's any
justice, kid rock will start singing their praises, and they'll become
the kings of white trash.

*amber (oct.13, excel energy center). the best came first on this
multi-act six degrees dance party bill. the netherlands-born  singers
track-show set wa punchy and pointed and high-
lighted by the would-be hit, "love one another." overall, it was much
more fun to watch ambers promising star rising than seeing ru-paul,
taylor dayne and culture club playing to a mostly empty arena. along
with moby's performance at roy wilkins auditorium this was the arena
moment of the month.

   *lazy dog,"deep house music" (astralworks)
inwhich everything but the girls's ben watt  and fellow vinyl
groove-junkie jay hanman concoct a a sensual groove-laden two-disc set
that recrates specialty dance nights from lazy dog, their west london
nightclub.

*jane siberry, "calling all angels"  (from the film "pay it
forward.") the first time i heard this gorgeous and gorgeosly
understated song, i was at a diffa aids benefit performance by ballett
of the dolls  it works  just as well at  the conclusion of "pay it
forward" which iis neither a great movie or nor a substitute for
religion, as some have suggested, butjust another parable of the good
samaritan, which is a parable always worth retelling.

***the honor the earth chorus, "bury my heart wounded knee" (oct.16
orpheum theater)  too much of the night was given to squishy rehtoric
and politics that seemed to invite sepia tones on the spot. but at least
they were trying. andthis end-of-night jam with jackson browne, david
crosby, shannon cyrfman, winnona laduke the indigo girls and others was
the high point.

*christine kane (oct 19, ginkgo coffeehouse). a packed house got to
know this personable singer through material from her three recordings
and new songs like "she don't like roses" and one fantasy mtv women. she
left us shaking our heads, wondering how a talent this special could
have wandered under te radar so long--but for not much longer.

*paul williams, "the 20th century's greaest hits: a top 40 list"
(forge) the subtitle to this is, " what works should be remembered. and
why." and  who better to tell us than williams, the man who invented
rock criticism, wh riff expertly on everything from the beatles' things
we said today" to the velvets' "sister ray," a.a. milne's winnie the
pooh," to allen ginsberg's "howl" and the beach boys' pet sounds."

and everyone who'll be visiting a voting booth next week should be
required to read williams's wonderful take on eleanor roosevelt's 1948
"the universal declaration of human rights."

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

there that's every last word and now that my eyes are very sore and
blurry, i'm going off to bed. typos and all. (which i'm sure this email
is full of. so.)

peace, and good night, have a nice day

hey all,

first of all, i just typed this long message to the list, and what do you
know, aol decides to stop running on me.  so i will attempt to recapture what
i had said.

first of all, i am glad to be in communication again.  thanks sherlyn!  you
rock!

ok, onto some nigc.  i am not going to harp about this here, but counter coup
is organizing pro democracy rallies all across the country.  the first ones
were today at 1pm (great turnout!!!) and the next ones will be next saturday
at 1pm.  for the rally closest to you, please visit this site.
http://www.geocities.com/countercoup  and if you have any further questions,
please feel free to e-mail me.

secondly, since barb's article mentioned christine kane, i decided that i
should plug her.  for those of you who haven't heard of christine, she is an
amazing singer/songwriter from asheville, nc (sort of in that southern
scene).  for more information on christine's music and tour dates (catch her
live if you can!) visit her site at http://www.christinekane.com

now onto the igc.  amy ray has once kept me (somewhat) sane and focused (and
prevented a nervous breakdown!).   on friday, we had to put our dog to sleep.
he had cancer and could no longer walk.  plus he didn't eat anymore, and was
starting to feel pain.  it was a horrible situation.  (luckily i had my
countercoup organizing stuff to somewhat keep my mind off of things)
"ozilline" has become somewhat theraputic for me. the line "i had to put the
dog down before i hit the road, i watched that sweet old life become a bag of
bones," makes me breakdown everytime i hear it.  but more importantly (to me
now) that song is about (and remember, this is strictly personal to me!
please no flames on how i view the song and how amy intended it to be... ok?)
the cycle of life, and how things happen, and that death (and aging) is just
a natural process.  that song has healed me in so many ways, i can not even
begin to thank amy.  man, i wish i could thank her in person (but not until
next year when they start touring again...).  anyway, i miss the little guy,
but i know that wherever he is, he is better off.  and i swear that my cat
misses him also.  she prowls around the house looking for him.

finally (sorry this is getting looooong), emily answered my question about
the election during the chat on canoe.ca!  yeah!

ok, thanks for reading!

:-) karen

i contacted charlie rose show, and got a response saying that they
didn't tape the indigo girls because of the elections, and are going to
try to get them back on before the end of the year. so eep checking both
www.charlieroseshow.com, and ig www.indigogirls.com for details, i'msure
those two sites will post the girls when they are back on

i hope the charlie rose show staff knew about the hiatus before they
made the decision to post-pone them.

hey all,

how is everyone.......it is really great to see the list back again.  i had
the great privilege of going to the boone show, winston salem show and the
atlanta show last month.  i am not a good person at giving reviews, so i
will spare you, but i will say that the girls were in such a great mood, and
of course you already know that every second was bliss, there is no better
place to be than being amongst wonderful friends and fellow ig listees(dee,
sara, amy, jamie, lisa and a few more), enjoying the most heavenly voices on
the face of the earth.

we got a pretty good boot in atlanta and i wanted to offer it up for trades
or b&p's for those who don't have anything to trade yet.  the show was just
so special and invigorating and i hope it reflects on the boot.  it is on
one cd.  email me privately if interested.

oh, and amy, excellent job on the t-shirts, they look terrific!!!

so everyone knows... jen is and has been off on a training trip.  the problem
started the day she left.  she had subbed to the list under an aol account to
keep track of it, and contacted me when she found she was getting no list
mail, but a query told her she was subbed & things were fine.  as list admin,
she has gone away before, but always checked on the list thru other accounts.
in the past it worked out just fine.

as far as who is currently admin, technically, we're policing ourselves, as
we usually do.  as far as big problems go, well, sherlyn took care of this
one, and other past owners can do that as well.  as far as individual
problems, i suggest everyone sit back & relax, since jen won't be back for
another day or two, which means that her account is flooded with bounced mail
& complaints for the past two weeks (and that's got to be several hundred, so
be patient while she wades thru them).

i am posting once again to recruit more participants in the holiday card
exchange.

for those of you that don't know what it is...it is a lot of fun!  i collect
addresses, put y'all in groups (of about 15), and then ya send all the people
in your group a card for the holidays.  it is great fun!  (sorry, i know i
already said that...)

everyone is welcome to join!  y'all will receive the same number of cards
that you send out...it is a great opportunity to let your creative side
shine.  many people include their favorite quote, a photo (of the girls), or
make cards featuring the girls... (while this is a very cool thing to do, you
do not need to be creative in order to join).

it really brings feelings of peace and togetherness to the holiday season
(not to mention...the indigo girls look really cute in santa hats ;))

take care y'all...and please consider signing up!
erin sue (in vermont)

oh, and thanks to everyone that has already signed up....

r.e.m., stone temple pilots, billy corgan, foo fighters and vertical horizon
have contributed live tracks to a charity cd due tuesday from atlanta radio
station 99x (wnnx-fm). the songs on walk unafraid were recorded at various
atlanta locations, including bars, record stores and studios, during events
broadcast by the station. the majority stem from performances within in the
last year, while foo fighters' "my hero" is from a 1997 appearance at a
record store.

r.e.m. frontman michael stipe hand-picked the album's beneficiaries, the
georgia litigation project of the student press law center civil-rights
organization and the gay-lesbian activist group georgia equality project.

walk unafraid is available only through the station's web site and local
outlets in the atlanta area.

the complete track listing for walk unafraid:
r.e.m. - "walk unafraid"
vertical horizon - "everything you want"
our lady peace - "is anybody home?"
angie aparo - "spaceship"
foo fighters - "my hero"
tonic - "if you could only see"
chris cornell - "can't change me"
train - "meet virginia"
billy corgan - "age of innocence"
splendor - "yeah, whatever"

i believe sara lee's cd is being distributed by righteous babe, ani
difranco's label.

i just got back from nerfa (north east regional folk alliance) conference -
where i saw some excellent performances, played music into the wee hours,
and made some great new friends.

the roster at rockrgrl last week was also excellent. amy sang the band's
"the weight" with shannon curfman, incidentally...melissa ferrick rocked the
house - i hadn't seen her live before, but she and her band put on one of
the finest live shows i've ever seen.  they're wrapping up their tour next
month, so i suggest seeing them if you can.

ps i'm playing asheville with michelle malone this friday night, if anybody
wants to come out, and sonia of disappear fear will be at eddie's attic

mime-version: 1.0

one day i opened my e-mail box and found nigc.
i mean absoultly none!
just a bunch of free membership offers to "free xxx-live college girls.com".

so, after spending a few day watching the hidden cam at kara's playhouse, it
was november 7th.

that night, three friends and i attended the american indian college fund
raiser!!!!!

it was a great show, we were a group of about 100-125 people. we were dressed
to the hilt and close enough to amy and emily to hear the actual (not
amplified) struming of their guitars.

in between songs two and three, they mentioned the election. someone yelled
"indigo girls in 2004!!!!"

that someone was me!!!!!

after the show ended, i flew to florida to mess up the election.

then the next day, i flew back just in time to see them at barnes and nobel
in union square!!!!

i met the indigo girls!!!!!

that is 11 years in the waiting for me.

i first got emily's autograph. i offered her the "retrospective cd cover"
(that i was given the night before). i told her how great they were the night
before (god! that could mean so many things) and i told her i was the one who
nominanated them for preident. she laughed, she remembered!!!

then i moved over to amy. amy ray, my favorite singer/songwriter/poet in the
world.  i offered her the same cd cover and she began to sign. she looked up
at the sweatshirt i was wearing. pointing at the lion on my chest she said
"is that harry potter?" i turned around to show her the name "potter" on my
back over the #56!

she loved my sweatshirt!!!!!

so we segwayed into a little harry potter chat.

i chatted harry potter with amy ray!!!!!

then i went home and called everyone!!!!

the said "that's great joe, i'm happy for you....but, why did you do that to
florida?!"

great to back!

1) email petitions have no protest value. zip. nada. none. i could make up
44862 names and add them to a list.

2) before this even gets started please, please for the love of harry no
apres-election discussion. this is waaaaaaay beyond igc. i thank you.

cheers :o)

since someone alreday posted abou this, i wanted to pass on wha i
think is a much more effective way to go about demanding a revote.
if you go to this web iste, it will send an automatic email (you can
personalize if you want. or not) to the election commission or palm
beach county.  and i think individual emails are better than
petitions.  i have been told that online petitions are the very least
effective form of communication to government officials.

we saw the girls perform in ny on the 7th&8th in ny,and it was awesome!!!!
first at the american indian college fund raiser, and then at the signing at
barnes and noble.first let me say that i couldn't have been more pleased,it
was by far the greatest experience at a live show ever!!!!we were right at
the stage nothing was in front of my view of the girls(except my beautiful
girlfriend!!)and it was perfect.everybody we met was so cool it was nice to
be in the company of "friends".the next day we headed to barnes&noble in
union square for an in store signing, again awesome!!we met up with people we
had hung out w/ the night before, and got a great place in line and watched
the girls do it again.they did the two new songs off retrospective,i think
"leaving"is the most beautiful song,since "love's recovery",then after they
stayed to sign autographs,&the free cds we got the night before.i had never
met them before, and told them we drove up from mass,to seethem they thanked
us,thanked us,it really was a wonderful time,and ny was great.thanks to
everyone who treated us so nice, hope we hear from you guys, now that were
connected again, but mostly thanks amy&emily for giving us such great
memories!!!

i called wine x magazine a couple of weeks ago about this because they
charged my credit card and never sent the magazine.  as it turns out,
that issue with emily on the cover never came out.  they are planning
on combining it with the next issue for a "double issue" which will
have the same cover story (although i am unclear about whether or not
it will have the same actual cover).  so supposedly it's coming out
soon.

that's about all i know.

     sorry.

really....many of us here in florida can count. we just like to take our
time...you know...get it right.  unless bush wins, in which case i once again
must express my apologies.
some of us can figure out how to use the little punch cards, contrary to
what the rest of the world must be thinking of us.  <g>  except of course the
woman who was in the little voting cubby before me who took the instructions
"slide card into slot" literally and tried to stuff the entire thing into the
slot after she voted, making a little difficult for me to get my card in. of
course by the time i forced my card into the slot (because as i always
say...you can solve any problem with brute force) the woman had figured out
that she was not actually supposed to shove the entire card into the slot.
she shortly returned to the little voting cubby with a very
official-like-voting-volunteer who tapped me on the shoulder making me leap
to my defense crying "what did i do?!" as i thought that they had watched me
use brute force to get my card into the slot and would consequently strip me
of said card.  i ended up being quite the hero of the little voting cubby
when i yanked my card out of the slot and the woman's card came flying out
behind it.  i was tempted to point out that perhaps people so stupid
shouldn't be allowed to have their vote count, but then again, i did just
moments before attempt to shove my card into the slot rather than think
perhaps there was a problem with having to use brute force.  hey, it was
early in the morning. leave me alone. <g>

well the point of this story is that i apologize.  not all of florida had
such difficulty casting their votes..just some of us.  <g>

peace,
  ~wolf

i don't really see how emily _could_ contribute in a positive way. it's like
romeo and juliet - it's better off solo. amyray, squeaky fromme was one of
charlie manson's associates, so make of that what you will...

the song is called "the ballad of squeaky fromme" and squeaky fromme was
one of the manson family...and if you ever saw those women outside of the
courthouse (there are some great pictures and film footage) you'd be
majorly creeped out.

i just have to say for a minute that attacking old people who made mistakes
is so not cool.
joe, i'm not saying you are, i just wish that people would think for a second
what they are saying (ie: the radio personalities etc)
we all have grandparents, and we will all become old at some point.. it's
like picking on the scrawny kid in school cause you can.
something i was discussing with someone on another board..
the people of palm beach county.. some of those old people suvived the
holocaust, some of their family didn't. they were killed by and extremeist
who was in power and wanted to wipe them out. they value their right to vote.
so they went, and through some confusion.. they voted for pat buchanan.. a
man who doesn't believe the holocaust even happened. can you imagine the
turmoil? i'm not calling pat buchanan hilter, but in their minds he is right
up there.. and they voted for him!
obviously with as many problems as there have been in florida.. and there
were many more than just palm beach, there was a problem..

just a random thought.. i'm sad for those people.. and for all of us.

you're callin me retarded.. that's amusing.. see i do have a sense of humor
after all.
i was making a point, it's not a joke to some people.. obviously you aren't
one of them. i'm not playing holier than though, i was putting something out
there that i believe is an injustice to those people.
i am so very sorry that you don't agree and that you have to take that

my dear friends...
i am saddend overall by the results of late with the election , actualy the aftermath of same. i am embarrassed by it actually.

but , to see the anger and animosity here on the list regarding same is worse.
perhaps it would be best if it was dropped..or at least taken to private. i know we do not want censorship on the list and we all ( for the most part) believe all are entitled to their opinion. however, the written word is often hard to disseminate if it was typed in humor, hate, anger, or simply typed with a desire to express the opinion. since this si the case, being unable to tell what tone the post are typed in....why not just dont do it.

creating a degree of chaos and anger on the list is not the purpose nor the goal.

that which he have in common is general for the most part. as in any situation there are things which historically cause problems in any family or social , or business setting.  there is no reason to further the growth of animosity amongst friends here on the list.
i have been apart of the list now for some 4 or 5 years...it seems that over the last year the tendency of the topics to get more angry, has grown....at times i wonder why...i know it is the ebb and flow of any gathering of persons who are free minded and think...it is our right to do so...

but when everything else always seems to be so negative ( out in the real world if you like) it is sad that so much of it becomes apart of the conversation here. i know about the deleat key...and do use it...but a lesson once learned...every time a bad or hurtful thing is said or typed a nail goes into a fence. you can apologize and remove the nail but the hole remains....

hey all,

i just called to ask again about the magazine.  they tell me that the
double issue is at their printers as we speak, and that it should be on
newstands in a few weeks.  they tell me that emily is in fact on the
cover still and that the article is in tact as it was originally meant
to be published.  so i guess patience is in order.

for those of you interested in ordering just the one issue, the number
to call is: toll-free at 888.229.4639 at $5 an issue, you have to use a
credit card.

hope that's helpful!

i have to say that i agree with joe...but he could of went about it in a
better way....name calling won't solve anything....i just feel that you
can't say anything without making it into a big thing...that joke made me
giggle for a second...but i don't feel differently about older people
because of it....we will get old some day, too....we know that....we can't
help who we are....whether it be irish, italian, american, or indian, young
or old....there are jokes for every nationality, gender...etc......i do
laugh at some of the jokes that are harmless jokes...especially when it
involves myself...being italian american...my whole family uses their hands
when they talk and we have the worst accent going....(just my
opinion...)...i know that and i laugh about it..

i feel that you can't take everything so seriously..if i did...i would
probably not be as secure in myself as i am now....calling someone a
derogatory name and making a harmless joke are two different things....not
everyone has to agree with it....but it was a harmless joke....i love this
list, but everything has to turn into some huge discussion over something so
ridiculous....but everyone has there own opinion, so....to each his own, i
guess....it might make people not want to write in as much, though...feeling
they might be awaiting a huge long speech.....

are we really back - i  missed this list (guess i'm an addict too) -- how is
everyone:

i too had an amazing experience in new york.  i flew from boston on tuesday
and stayed with my friends who live in queens. the american indian benefit
was wonderful - one of the best shows (though shorter than most) i have
seen.  i was also right up in front (thanks so much to john and his friend
for saving me space).  the stage was so close, i was about 3 feet away.  it
was truly an emotional evening for me.  sunny from ulalie (? - sorry
spelling) sang a song in indian and dedicated to the girls.  they also got
blankets and shirts (emily got bright pink -- ouch! - and amy a blue one).
some of my favorites (the ones i can remember, anyway - too much champaign)
were devotion, virginia wolf,
reunion and amy sang point hope which i had never heard before.

the next day, the girls and i staggered to barnes & noble for the signing.
they sang devotion (can't hear that enough) and leaving -- oh, it was so
beautiful live.  then after it was over i finally after 10 years got an
autograph - i had my retrospective cd and my watershed t-shirt which i have
been carrying around with me since last december (i'm sorry, chee, i could
only get 2 things signed - maybe next time).  i really couldn't say much
when i got up to the table because i was a little slow getting to the girls
and the promo person told me to move it.  so i handed em the shirt and she
smiled and said "oh watershed" and gave a little laugh.  i said i loved it
there and she said thank you.  she signed my cd and handed it to amy and amy
said "hey cathy" and i, trying to be normal and shaking like a leaf at the
same time, said
hi amy, how are you.  i mentioned that i flew to atlanta for earth challenge
and she said that was great
and thanked me.

after it was over, i was flustered and still shakey that i accidentally
walked into the men's room.  i was kind of wondering why people were looking
at me funny.  all in all, a memorable experience.  it was so nice meeting
everyone and i too want to thank amy and emily for yet another of the
wonderful gifts they've given me through the years.

take care

anger issues, much, joe?  that was totally uncalled for.  my question is,
why did you even post that if you knew how the list would respond?  if we
are so "since (your spelling not mine)-of-humorless-sloths", why did you
even bother us with a joke?

you accuse her of not being able to take a joke.  you my friend could stand

listees -

i joined this list to read about ig happenings and possibly be able to
trade shows. i find myself getting more and more angry day by day due to
the nigc posts. i held off on posting to the list to gripe about this
because by doing so i am adding to the nigc posts. but if you have been
subscribed to the list for a month, then you undoubtedly remember the
post by jen saying that this list is not the place for political
discussion. why don't you people honor her and this list by not posting
political discussion here. please notice this link:

http://www.fl.net.au/~sherlyn/ig/

it is at the bottom of every post that gets emailed to you guys. perhaps
its time for us all to take a look back at the faqs to determine what is
appropriate and not appropriate for this list. is it going to take jen
banning folks to stop these political discussions. why should it have to
come to that? please send any complaints directly to me, not this list.
the email address is :

green@cmc.uab.edu

once again jen runs this list and she said to chill out with the
political posts 2 weeks ago. its her list, if you don't agree, start you
own.

i apologize for sending out the bad vibes. and for those of you that
told me you were sending discs for the b+p, i believe i have received
all of them, and i hope to have all of them mailed out by the end of the
week. - todd

hey guys,

i sent a personal retraction to tunegal.

i explained i ment no personal attack as much as i was focusing on the
"nit-picking" that occurs on peoples posts.

as for my spelling, i type and send. (truth be told, i spell most words with
the number 4, and in elementry school, i'd spell "spelling b" with a 6)

no one should ever call anyone else retarted, regardless of the spelling!

if alloud i would like to take that back.

i do beleive that "nit-picking" is retarded. posting a funny joke is just
that, at a party when someone tell a polish joke do you intervien with "you
know, not all polish people are dumb"

no you don't (if you do, you don't get invited to any more parites)

again, i ment nothing to the person, as much as i did the act of having to
clairify that not all old people messed up the ballot.

for that matter not all old people play bingo!!!!! (the others play majhong)

never seen it elsewhere.  anyone seen one? anyone have one?

thanks for the info.

near standing out side the orpheum theatre, there to support the native
causes as part of the fourth honor the earth tour. the causes were
fierce, from stopping the buffalo slaughtering in yellowstone, to
supporting the "no nukes" stance on native lands in skull valley.
theartists ranged from from young and older generatios of music, from
david crosby to shannon curfman and minnesota's own annie hmphrey. they
were all there sharing their music and encouraging the audience to speak
out on issues and fill out action forms.

the indigo girls, amy ray emily saliers, took time to talk about
youth activism and the tour with us at new voices (n.v.)

n.v.:  a lot of your songs have brought on a number of important
issues (including) gay rights, native rights and the environment. is
through music your intention? if so, what are the challenges?"

amy ray,: "we're activists and musicians , so they kind of merge
together, sometimes, but  it's not necessarily always our intention.
it'sort of what we naturally are__is activists, sometimes it comes out
in our writing."

   n.v.: so it's very natural?
amy:"it's not really intentional."

n.v.: i see that a lot in women, and i see that you are very strong.
going out there challenging the challenges. which in return makes you
feel cool and strong lie i am wanting to go out tere singing even though
i can't sing! saying, "more power to them!"

(indigo girls laugh)

n.v.: from your own experiences with native communities, what is the
primary role you see youth playing in the fight for our fuure? what
would you say to me, who hasn't been through challenges like you have?

emily saliers:  "native youth are going to inherit the problems that
exist today, unless they (issues) are taken care of in the shor term,
which looks like that's not going to happen that's not going to happen.
so there's ways to organize. i men there are right now, over 200 native
grassroots groups in operation across the americas, one resource you can
have s our website: www.honorearth.com.

"we've been told by mentors of ours that you should just get together
with some of your friends and sit around, and talk, brainstorm and go
"what's wrong?" and "what are we concerned about?" and then you join in
groups
that already exist and write letters to people.  there are
letter-writing campaigns and phone-callls to politicians that work
within the community as well. there's a lot of oppertunity
out there for youth."

n.v.: is that how you grew to where you are today?
emly: "i was really involved in student government i high school, and
that got me involved in community awareness and what was goig on. i
think native youth are in a unique position because you have the idian
communities that are maore rual and ones tha are more urban. you have to
bridge that.  it's important to build between people on that level. it's
so important'

n..v.: hardship comes into the ones who want to be involved, who want
to take a stand, since they live in two worlds.  i see the struggles
ofland and religion throgh those living on the reservation. uranium is
being dug out of the earth  o my people's land my people's land, yet
here, many miles miles away, i see nsp down the block using the uranium
on dakota land. it's hard for us to stay connected to our own people. on
the reservations."

emily: "we've seen huge battles taken on by high school activists in
different ways. i heard a woman speak who had gone to school in the
south, who was talking about the school tracking students into certain
levels of education in a racist way.  despite how intelligent they (the
children) are, blacks were being streamlined down to the lowest level
(of education). she took on the whole county : all by erself, and
organized.  in the whole county:  al by herself, she enlisted people to
help her, got a boycott organized.  basically, having no choice but to
stop the system.

" i see youth action goups all over in native america. one thing is
having confidence. just getting together builds your self-esteem because
you realize there's all these other people proud to be who they are.
which ithink
is oe  the problems of any disenfranchised group. you feel so cut down."

n.v.: once you got the unity, you've got it.
   emily, "yeah"
amy:  "i think youth are effective because they don't take no for an
answer.
"it's very clear on what needs to be done. when they(youth ) get
together they can't be stopped when they are in a coaliion.

emily: " we (activists and urban and rez youth) can organize events
with a great dj with music and traditional drum in the background.
crossing the lines of urban and traditional and everything that;s going
on, to brig people together (about issues), it can be coo and
revolutionary in current times."

n.v.: you're getting my blood pumped up now.
     (indigo girls laugh.)

emily: 'people have to go through their own stuff in order to
understand why they should be be interrested (in issues) and i bet if
youth keep talking about it, it will happen. so go for it!"

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

that's it hope you enjoyed it.

the emory show in honor of our 'year of
reconciliation' is two weeks away, and tickets were
finally made available to students.  the show is free,
but one ticket per i.d. (and for once emory is
organized and highlights your name if you pick up a
ticket, so that you can't go back and get another (the
usual trick)).  they are also checking i.d.s at the
door, so good luck to those of you who were thinking
of sneaking in.  on the positive side, with the
severely limited number of tickets available and the
smallness of the pe center, it should be a wonderfully
small quiet show:).  i will try and boot the show
though, and will post if the boot comes out and i can
distribute it.  please don't email me now about the
boot- i have nothing to tell you.

and to those of you whom i owe boots to due to the
breaking down of my burner this summer, the new one is
coming for christmas, so i will finally get you the
boot i owe you.

:)carrie

you go todd!  i too just want to read about the girls - like, who has
the scoop on amy's new one coming out in march???

how's this for a disenfranchised voter - politics is all power and bs
anyway, so why bother??  but i digress.  i am bothered by the huge
amount of nigc that has plagued the list since i resubbed over a year
ago.  i delete way more than i read and that ain't right.

so please (even though i know i am a minority)cut the nigc.
