hey there intimate strangers,

i guess i got home first @ 230am to my computer so here goes:

[...]

rose polenzani opened with "shake through the ugly", played "thom ii" (which
i had never heard live before), and other songs, and ended with olga's
birthday. (more detailed setlist on rose-p@onelist.com)

the acoustic duo setlist for tonight was:
go
get out the map
thin line
soon be to nothing
world falls
peace tonight
romeo & juliet (!!)
closer to fine
faye tucker (acoustic!)
philosophy of loss
shame on you
wood song
ozilline
ghost
chickenman :)
mystery (a request - not on setlist)

encore:
or - rose polenzani with the girls on backup vocals
gone again
galileo

the indigo girls were so interactive with the crowd tonight--little stories
or comments, reading our signs, accepting gifts.  amy ray wore a blue long
sleeve shirt over her infamous black tanktop, a grey chain , blue jeans, and
blue suede shoes--oh, and we musn't forget that cool cowboy hat.  she was
all smiley tonight.  emily wore sparkly stuff around her eyes, but not the
blue shadow.  she wore a red long-sleeve shirt, black pants, a sparkly
watch, a couple of bracelets (including a yellow rave one), and i couldn't
see her shoes.

they performed on queen latifah's show earlier that day or yesterday, and
emily absolutely raved about her--how she is as cool in person, as you see
on the screen.  they caught her show in atlanta and was blown away.

amy mentioned that they would be leaving for australia in 3 days--over lots
and lots of water.  emily said she was going to listen to the new filters
album on the way to aussieland.

emily said, "what is this show--who wants to marry a multi-millionaire?
what's even more sick is that mostly women watched the show--that's f*cked
up!"

it was a wonderful--some called it the ultimate setlist--tonight.  we were
all amazed or transcended into ig heaven.  i was shocked and carrie was
stunned and crying when amy started playing romeo & juliet.  and once they
played wood song, i didn't think they would do mystery--but i bet the
birthday staff (security?) member (matthew) requested it.
other highlights for me were: hearing philosophy of loss live, world falls,
and thin line.

after the show, we ambled our way over to the bus to wait for amy and emily
to appear.  emily came out fairly quickly after the show, and luckily,
signed autographs at our end of the bus.  she and amy jammed tonight to fill
in where the band was before.  amy came out about 40 minutes later, and made
sure she signed everything that people presented to her.  she even hugged a
couple of fans.  (to get more fanatical, both amy and emily used my purple
pen for autographs; got my 1200 curfews songbook and my cons t-shirt
signed.)

overall, a very splendid night.

diane - thanks neil and andi for bringing my umbrella!

hi folks,

[...]

so, the girls came out and after playing the first song ("go") amy
announced that she might puke.  emily elaborated that there is a "flu bug
going around the bus."  she (amy) looked like she felt really horrible.
she was wavering while she was standing, and sitting during songs when she
wasn't singing, mixing up lots of lyrics, missing some chords....  she sort
of staggered off stage after, what, five or six songs?  despite all this,
she gave a hell of a performance.  it was amazing.

emily took over while amy (presumably) rested backstage.  she played
"philosophy of loss," which the "vip" crowd (read: non-ig fans) clearly
didn't appreciate.  in a somewhat out-of-character moment, emily stepped
back from the mic. in the middle of the song and yelled "shut the fuck up!"
at these people on the right side of the "theater" (it was really a
restaurant) who must have been talking really loudly.  even those of us in
the back heard it loud and clear!

amy came back out and they did "galileo" and called it a night, after 37
minutes, due to their early curfew and amy's flu (and perhaps emily's
frustration with the crowd?).  some people wondered why emily didn't do
more solo songs, but without a piano i don't think there are that many for
her to do (that she's recorded, anyhow).

so, all in all, it was a lot of effort for a quick performance which was
quite good even though amy looked like she really should have stayed in
bed.  i must confess that i feel rather guilty that they didn't cancel the
show--she really didn't need to go through all that for us.  (hell, it was
a free show!)

sue kwan and i have achieved a new stage of fandom: we could identify every
song except one by the guitar combinations.  here's the setlist:

go
get out the map
chickenman
peace tonight
gone again
power of two
philosophy of loss
galileo

peace to everyone and wishes for antibiotics to amy,
margaret

ps--they played "go," "peace tongiht," and "shame on you" on the radio in
the earlier afternoon to "make up" for only being able to play a short set
at the hob; they were only scheduled for 45 minutes, an "after five live"
thing, i learned.

ok, ok,

[...]

i did catch the 101.9fm interview and i thought it was crap!  who else
caught it?  i thought the interviewer knew nothing about the girls!  he was
asking the lamest questions, and it seemed like the entire time, he was
plotting emily aganist amy or visa versa ("so were you mad that her song
was the first track?" and "do you get jealous when her song is released to
the radio?"  give me a break!).  also, didn't he screw up the song title of
soy?  anyway, they played (on the radio) "peace tonight" "go" and "soy"

i recorded it, but before i offer it as a trade, i need to listen again and
see how it turned out (my good stereo is at school, so i had to use my
mom's which is just decent).

anyway, i want to hear other thoughts on the radio show.  and of course,
what i missed at hob tonight.

:-) karen (excited for u of c tomrrow)
