hammer and a nail

and they wouln't promote her to cashier.
ozillene
least complicated
chickenman - sandy garfinkel played too
andy

hey all! yes its true the show is for students only, but, its outside in the
west quad, and although they say they are checkin for id,my best friend ,who
used to work for the duke police dept (of course she just left the police
dept last month..grrr...) said there is no way they could check everyone cuz
there are so many ways to access the west quad.
also, i called info again and all the info (time and stuff) will be in the
duke chronicle (student newspaper) but she didnt know when.[...]
anyway, as for the show in raleigh, it is pavilion only w/ the whole band
like it was this past oct (my gf and i had 10 row tix and it was
unbelievable!!) tix for the that show (june 4th, suday) go onsale
****today**** friday april 7 at ****5pm****...at ticketmaster! the reserved
seats (first 20 rows secs 1,2,and 3) are about $37.oo i think! (its not
there fault, ticket master and walnut creek have much to do w/ that! when
the tickets arent through a "ticket outlet" u can see the difference in
price!!)

ok, i am wayyy too tired to do justice with this.
let me just say:
the indigo girls were at the spitfire tour date tonight (well, now, yesterday
night) @ northern il university (niu) in dekalb, il.
[...]
the bare bones:
m. frenti talked first
then jonas goldberg
then kennedy, the ex-vj
then, ms. ray and ms. saliers starting to talk about honor the earth and
related stuff. they threw it over to winona laduke (!!!!!) who spoke.
verrry powerful stuff.
then ralph nader talked (!!!), and then the indigo girls played a short
acoustic set:
bury my heart @ wounded knee
hammer and a nail
and then a song i'd never heard before,
little darling -an unreleased song that amy said she wrote thinking about the
cycles of nuclear waste (i'm paraphrasing, of course.)
if you wanna check out the lyrics :
http://www.lifeblood.net/lyrics/athruz/ldarling.html
and during the q and a right after the songs
i asked a question, and then tacked on a little "amy how are you doin'?" to
it, just cause i could.[...]
she said she was fine and that everything was in order (patting her abdomen).
they both sounded very 'on' tonight, and just glad i got to be there.
so, if any one else was there, i was 'that dyke who asked amy how she was'.
(:

"no matter how many outre things i manage to do with my life, how many
body piercings or tattoos or whatever else i might litter my body with, i
am still, as a sexual being, the girl my mother wants me to be, the woman
who is obedient to the male gaze. and amy ray, i am certain, is not."
wurtzel, elizabeth from "the (fe)male gaze."

danielle howle opened, and she was a total riot! i loved her so-called
goofy-ness--probably, because to me, that's considered normal behavior. ;)
she broke out her harmonica for one of her songs, and for blister in the
sun, she actually started playing it on the wrong side. she talked about
the big cockroaches in south carolina(being able to squish their height and
pop back into their full height after coming through a slit in your
wall--don't leave cereal bowls in the sink after breakfast!), and she sang
that "girl from the flagtown" song. her last song was a cappella and jazzy;
and we kept the beat for her.
here's the setlist (finally!):
thin line
wood song
gone again
soon be to nothing
jonas and ezekial
get out the map
faye tucker
hammer and a nail (instead of peace tonight on the setlist)
romeo and juliet
here i am - emily solo - a cover by ? (neil or tim, do you know??)
shame on you (on the original setlist, prior to ctf, and after lc)
ghost - a request, not on the setlist.
ozilline (least complicated was after this song on the setlist)
closer to fine
encore:
cold beer and remote control
blister in the sun (w/ danielle howle)
galileo
(thanks, andi, for letting me see the setlist you got.)
i was surprised (a good surprise) by the opening song, thin line. and
considering our discussion a couple days ago, the wood song was definitely a
plus.
[...]
r & j was a big hit. *sigh*
here i am was a different flavor from the usual, along with blister in the
sun. so, which artist was emily saliers covering? one of the last choruses
goes something like: "here i am, i still carry a flame for you, it's still
burning for you, here i am, here i am." a simple and beautiful ballad.
(three covers tonight!)
yeah, like carrie mentioned, amy forgot her first line to "thin line", and
said aloud to emily, "what's my line?" and we laughed. i think amy caught a
wrong chord towards the end of the wood song, but we only knew by the look
on her and emily's face. i think their goofiness was instigated by miss
howle. (cue dragnet music)
[...]
and lastly, the fashion report:
amy: still same blond streaked light brown hair, which got all static-y and
mussed up toward the end, two necklace chains brownish reflective color, a
beige shirt with it looked like brown thread embroidered flowers? with white
centers in downward stripes, over a tiny black and white check, and blue
suede shoes. no rings, maybe a watch on the right hand?
emily: glitter in the hair, glitter on the face, and later glistening with
beads of perspiration and smiles, very sparkly; blue and white small plaid
long-sleeve shirt, over white shirt, with silver-colored necklace and
pennant, over black pants, and black boots; several bracelets left wrist,
and silver watch with black face right wrist.
amy may have looked slightly thinner from her illness. and her eyes are
like big black coals looking back at you.
anyway, that's what i get for being in second row after the first few songs.
(a couple took pictures and then left--i hope it was for the school
newspaper.)
hee, and danielle howle also signed my travel journal with a smiley face and
her sig.
nighty night is,
di
