daemon records 10-year anniversary

demon records (amy ray's indie record label) is celebrating
its 10-year anniversary with a tour of bands signed on the daemon label.

check out the full schedule and a letter from amy reflecting
on the past 10 years of the label.

            a message from emily

        hello everybody.

spring has sprung in atlanta, the gentle stretch of dogwood and
snow white blossomed trees casting their long awaited spell. i'm stumbling
in it, inspired to write and live and give. so we're playing all acoustic
duo shows, a lot of college dates, high schools,(yes!), earth day,
pro-choice, and spitfire. i enjoy the intimacy and ebb and flow of these
solo shows, getting back to our roots, and stripping down the newest songs
to their humble beginnings, with a few new incarnations. then we hook up
with the band again in june for a summer tour of outdoor venues. we can
get back to a little electric, the harmoinies of carol, caroline and
clare, and blair blasting the drums. it's all good.

i've been seriously kicking back on this break, particularly
blessed to have seen "boys don't cry," which blew me away. i can't stop
thinking about it and how much work there is left to do to bring about
understanding among people of differing sexual orientations. i am also
just finishing a remarkable novel, "a gesture life," by chang-rae lee.
it's the best novel i've read in a long time. thanks to all of you for
your continuing support and listening ears.

                 sincerely,
                 emily.

            a message from amy

        hey everybody...

indigos have decided to cancel our show at the house of blues in
myrtle beach, s.c. we stand in support of the economic boycott of the
state of south carolina called by the naacp. this boycott is an effort to
remove the confederate flag from all positions of sovereignty in the state
and have the flag relegated to a place of historical context only. while
the state senate has voted to remove the flag from atop the state house
and legislative chambers, it would still remain on the grounds close by
the main entrance to the building. this compromise is unacceptable to the
naacp and i agree.

i am proud of my southern heritage, but this flag, used as a current
symbol, is an affront to our evolution as a community. the flag was placed
on the state house flag pole in 1962 at the height of the civil rights
movement in celebration of the centennial of the civil war. it is an
obvious symbol of the racism and bigotry that has plagued our beautiful
southern states for too long. it is time for the confederate flag to be
understood as an important piece of our long history and a reminder, as
well as a warning, of our human frailty and the need for constant
self-examination.

emily and i have consulted many leaders in the black community
concerning the sanctions and their effects on people of all socio-economic
levels. i hope any inconvenience that this boycott causes will urge into
action those that care about the cohesion and progress of our southern
communities. we stand confidently behind the actions of the naacp and hope
you will too. i especially want to thank the house of blues for
understanding and supporting our actions. lets make the confederate flag
history.

                 thanks!
                 amy

if i have a care in the world
i have a gift to bring....

subject: [ig-news] the latest on the duke concert

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]

to cara klein and others planning to attend tonight's
ig concert at duke:

since it's pouring rain, the show will now be held in
page auditorium instead of on the west quad. what i've
heard is that **you absolutely must have a duke
student id to get a ticket** and that they're only
giving one ticket per id shown, because of limited
space. this means that if you aren't a duke student,
you have very little hope of getting in. for anyone
who has an id, i understand tickets are being passed
out between 2-4 p.m. at page and (if any are left)
right before the show begins.

and that's my public service announcement for today.
