hey everybody:

i just wanted to let all of you travellers out there planning
to come to the beautiful city of boston next weekend for
the big shows at fleetboston pavilion know that we are
planning to have a list meet before the show.

it is at jimbo's fish shanty (not to be confused with jimmy's
harborside restaurant) on northern avenue practically across
the street from fleetboston pavilion.  i made a reservation for
6:00 pm for about 30 people, but i will probably be cutting it
down to 20.

if you would like to come, we would love to see ya, so please
email me at woodlady14@hotmail.com and let me know so
i can finalize my count for the reservation.

directions will follow soon (but not from me .... i can't drive...
i'd be no help).

have a happy friday and a great weekend!

cathy (who is a little sad because her best friend at work
is leaving the company to persue her own business)

may 30, 2000, 10:00 am pt

joan jett
indigo girls, joan jett, kathleen hanna (formerly of bikini kill, currently
in le tigre), and feminist author gloria steinem have donated personal items
for a silent auction that is part of the first birthday celebration for a new
york women's bookstore, bluestockings.

the indigo girls' donation will be signed copies of rare and out-of-print eps
and posters; hanna is donating a le tigre goodie bag featuring band
merchandise; steinem is giving up signed copies of one of her books; and
jett, according to a spokesperson for the event, "said she would look around
her room and grab something."

the silent auction -- to help raise money for the store -- is part of the all
day birthday celebration on june 3 for bluestockings. in addition, the event
will include performances from the band bitch.

ok folks.....  this is a busy weekend for all of us ticket buyers, but this
is what i have been able to glean over the past few weeks....

tickets for the sacramento concert on july 21st at sacramento memorial
auditorium at 7:30pm go onsale tomorrow, june 3rd at 10:00am at all bass
ticket centers or at the sacramento convention center box office.  all
seating is reserved with tickets at $35.00 and $27.50  (my own note - the
27.50 tix are probably for the upper level.....)

tickets for the uc berkeley greek theatre july 22nd concert, 7:30pm go on
sale this sunday at 10am via ticketmaster ticket centers.  the online
ticketmaster site does not have prices listed - but during the past few
tour stops at the greek theatre, there have been both reserved and gen'l
admission seating with the price differential between the two around 10-15
$....  and the tickets may be purchased from ticketmaster on line, by
calling (415) 421-8497 or by going to any ticketmaster ticket center
(recording says in all rite aids...)

hope this helps!

hey guys!

i have an extra ticket for ig at harborlight in boston, ma
on saturday, june 10th, 2000.  i believe rose p. is their
opening act that night.  i heard that the show is sold out,
so if anyone out there is interested in buying the ticket off
me (i can meet you at the gate before the show and we
can make the exchange), let me know.  i paid $34 for it,
but i'd be willing to sell it for $25.  if i could afford to give
it away i would.   by the way, the seat is in section 3, row
gg.

it's a great opportunity to see ig at a fabulous venue. harborlights
is right on the water in boston, ma.  it's an open-air pavillion,
and at night you can see planes taking off and landing at nearby
logan airport -- very pretty -- it reminds me of emily's song
"winthrop."  you'd be sitting next to me and two of my dear
friends.  we're all gay (in case that's a concern) and we're
very friendly.  we won't bite...unless asked to. :-)

let me know if anyone's interested.  email me privately, because
i don't always read the posts to this list. :-|

cheers!
andy

subject: [ig-news] chastain shows mini-review

[sherlyn's note: this is an excerpt of a message which was
originally sent to the indigo girls mailing list at
netspace.org.]

hey,

haven't seen anybody comment on the two chastain shows yet.  i actually enjoyed
the saturday show more than the friday show, which was the opposite of what i
was expecting.  the saturday show was the one that went on sale first as part of
the summer concert series at chastain.  you had to buy at least two shows in
order to get one, so it wound up being more season ticket holders on saturday
and not as much pure ig fans in the audience.  as it turned out, i found that a
plus.  on friday, they seemed a bit rusty to me.  (was this the first show back
with the full band?)  plus, with a pure ig-fan crowd, they don't have to work as
hard to get an appreciative response.  i wouldn't say they phoned it in, but the
friday show didn't move me much.  (of course, maybe it's just that i had lousy
seats).

[...]

on saturday, they seemed more relaxed and with more season ticketholders there
quietly listening, it was a better performance 'cause they had to earn it.  one
great thing is that they're back to having both amy and emily do solo numbers.
amy did "rome and juliet" both nights -- it was especially excellent on
saturday -- and emily did "philosophy of loss" both nights.  i had better seats
on saturday (which probably has a lot to do with my enjoying it better).  i was
seated next to the guy controlling the video screens up above the stage.  they
had 3 cameras on the performers -- usually one on amy, one on emily and one on
the band -- and this guy was running the machine that chose between those 3
feeds and he could also mix them together so there were several combined shots
of amy shot from the right and emily shot from the left where he could combine
them to show a composite that made it look like they were singing to each other
face-to-face.  a nice effect.

the opening act, both friday and saturday, was spearhead.  amy said they'd be
opening for them the entire summer tour.  spearhead is lead by michael franti.
he also used to be in a band called disposable heroes of hiphoprisy (they had a
song called "television: the drug of the nation" that made mtv) and before that
he was in the beatnigs.  michael said he first met amy and emily on that trip to
cuba.  franti is also one of the regular speakers on the spitfire tour.  it's a
very encouraging sign to see that franti and ig not only intersected, but were
able to connect with each other.  spearhead is an outstanding hip-hop band that
was, frankly, over the head of a crowd like the one at chastain. [...]

friday highlights:
love will come to you
shed your skin
kid fears (w/shawn mullins as michael stipe)

saturday highlights:
romeo and juliet
soon be to nothing
virginia woolf
compromise
chickenman
tangled up in blue

hopefully, somebody else will post the complete setlists.  if there's a boot (or
a boot of the video screen, especially) please let us know.  the best boots, i
find, are those shows just before the release of a new album where ig has the
new songs well practiced but the audience doesn't know them yet so they don't
drown out the performance.  saturday was almost as good because the season
ticketholders were pretty quiet since they were unfamiliar with the songs.
