[sherlyn's note: this is an excerpt of a message which was
originally sent to the indigo girls mailing list at
netspace.org.]

due to awkward planning, i've ended up with two extra tickets for the ig
show in seattle on saturday, july 15, 2000.  i'm wanting to pass these
on to a happy home and recover the money i have in them, and nothing
more.

the tickets are all general admission (it's an outdoor venue), and they
have a face value of $33 on them.  the pair is yours for $60.

indigo girls: with spearhead and rose polenzani. 6:30 p.m.

special to the record

when the indigo girls were discussing the direction the duo
would follow in crafting its latest album, "come on now
social," vocalist-guitarist emily saliers decided it was
time for a change.

"if not for the both of us, at least for myself," saliers
said during a recent telephone interview from her atlanta
home.  "i had to challenge myself again. for too long, i
would write ballads and pop songs since they come so easily
for me. but this time i wanted to write some rock songs; i
love harder music, but it just isn't as easy for me to write
in that style. but this time i decided to push myself, write
on the electric guitar, and see what would happen."

based on the album, saliers is capable of writing more than
catchy, sensitive acoustic numbers. her hook-laden and
crunchy "trouble" is one of the best songs on "come on now
social." that's high praise considering that saliers'
partner, vocalist-guitarist amy ray, has a knack for writing
visceral rock numbers.

"if you write a rock song as an indigo girl, there's a high
standard you have to maintain," saliers said. "amy writes
great rock tunes. this time she blew me away with songs like
'go' and 'compromise.' she clearly knows what she's doing
with a rock song. i learned so much about it by just being
around her."

"come on now social" is not filled withraveups; the duo's
familiar harmony-laden ballads and appalachian-flavored folk
songs are represented as well.

"we're all still about variety," saliers said. "we have to
give our fans a little bit of everything."

after a fall tour of sold-out theater shows, they are
embarking on the last leg of their "social" jaunt.

"we love the big summer tour," saliers said. "we love playing
outdoors. there's such a good, loose vibe at these type of
shows. that's always been our kind of atmosphere."

saliers and ray are performing with a new band. "it's the
first time in eight years we're out with different musicians
and it makes such a difference," saliers said. "change is
always good. that goes for songwriting or who you play with."

the indigos, who perform tuesday at central park's
summerstage in manhattan, are planning their next album, much
of which returns to the folk-acoustic sound.

"quite a few songs have already been written and it's evident
that's the direction we're going in," saliers said. "we
certainly love writing those type of songs."

according to saliers, a few of those new tunes may even be
previewed during the current tour.

"amy is always apt to showcase some of her songs while she's
working on them," saliers said. "we'll just have to see what
happens during sound check."

also in the works for the duo is a career retrospective,
which should be in record stores in october.

"we're due for a compilation," saliers said. "the good thing
is that you're expected to throw some new songs onto this
kind of an album, and we're all for putting out new songs. so
there's going to be a healthy dose of new stuff from us."
