i have a pair of tickets available for the house of blues concert on friday,
7/28.  i'll be selling them at cost, which i believe comes to $86.07 (or
thereabouts) for the pair, including all taxes and "convenience" charges.
please email me *asap* if you're interested!

it will be on the new retrospective...]

um yeah so here is my take on the lyrics to leaving.. some parts are hard to
make out but this is my personal opinion of what i think em is singing...

[...]

leaving

jet fuel on the traffic lines [lights?]
pulling up to the delta signs
just a [shade] from my hometown
black stain where the wheels touch down
i pick up the morning news
i pass the man who's gonna shine my shoes
to security and to the train
that will take me to the aeroplane

i count miles on the highway
the sum of all my days
there's a postcard
[there's a call]
there's a picture for your bedroom wall
do you ever want to [----- -----]
who's that person standing next to you
now for all the nights [i'm gone]
is there a home for a traveling heart

chorus:
but if i were leaving you
i don't know what i would do
the more i go seems the less i know
the fires still burn on my return
keep the path laid on the only road i know
cause honey, all i know to do is go

a cup of coffee and my bags are packed
saying now not to look back
familiar emptiness inside
as the distances grow wide
[have a while] now to memorize
the last look in your loving eyes
seeing [dusk turn into] dawn
it's like a curtain being slowly drawn

chorus
guitar bridge
chorus

i came across this today in a kfog radio mailer. kfog is a san francisco
station and they had this little write up about the girls:

kfog :we recently asked inspiring folk-rockers amy ray and emily saliers to
talk about their collaboration.

emily on amy:

"amy drives me to be more driving in my music, and that's a really good
influence. i live and play through her songs. amy is not afraid to change a
song (to) have it be going at one pace for a while and then all of a sudden
change it to a faster pace. she's just very free in that way. her songs are
great. for me, it's like having a whole other musical life that i couldn't
create myself. i have a lot of respect for amy. she has taught me a lot about
politics and activism. she's a very true person, and i look up to her in many
ways. i'm fortunate that i'm in this partnership."

amy on emily:

"emily's songwriting style is really different from mine. i've seen her sit
down and write out a whole song before, right in front of me. what i bring is
a certain amount of "punk ethic" and unbridled approach to things. what she
brings is this ability to tap into every person's sentiment.
she can come up with one line that sums it up for a lot of people at one
time. i know what that line's going to be. when i hear the song for the first
time, i know the line that everyone is going to sing. it's a very special
craft. she hones her songs. also, emily is such a good guitar player. she
constantly ups the ante, so i'm constantly having to practice just to keep up
with her."
