thanks everybody for all the info on wild party, etc. i think i'm going to
have to run out and grab that
cd if i can find it. any suggestions on where to go?
also, i just heard about amy doing a show at the echo lounge. oh, the
temptation! but, no. i have to be strong and wait for the east coast shows
to be posted. i will return to atlanta but i want to wait until i can see
both of them together and this time, hopefully, take my hubby. all i did
after my trips there was talk about watershed & the flying bisquit and now
he wants to go. come to think of it, i could certainly go for a nice glass
of chardonnay & a bowl of mussells (oh wait, it's only 9:30 am, what am i
thinking).
back to work - no more thinking about atlanta
happy thursday

it's really hard to find. i have been looking to re-buy it for years now.
after ordering it from cdnow, and amazon.com, i have received notices that
the order has been cancelled because they can not track it down. if you do
find it, please let me know where.

hey all,
amy ray with the butchies on february 18th at the
mountain stage was mentioned a few days ago. does
anyone have any other information about this? like
confirmation of the event? or ticket availibility? my
web-searching skills are pretty inefficient (at best),
so i was wondering if anyone else on the list had any
other info about this show. apparently, it's also being
web-cast, but, i'd like to catch he real thing, if
possible, ya know. :) any and all help is appreciated!

howdy folks. sure has been awhile. i've been unsubbed for quite some time
and am trying to catch up now. i did see another amy ray solo date that
isn't listed above. sorry if it's been posted already. the following date
was listed in the windy city times in chicago with no other info besides
location. the paper did a big ole interview with her where she disses
eminem. love her!
4/12/01--the metro, chicago, il
so excited about this! would someone mind telling me when stag is or has
been released. sorry again if it's been posted. and a big hi and hello to
all listees i have not communicated with in forever. hope all are well.

hey,
ok, first of all, this is only a suggestion. i am not sure if it will work
(depending on the cd's availability).
i work (very) part-time at borders store. today when i was at work (after i
ordered it from half.com...oops!), i looked up "put on your green shoes" in
the borders system. it is something that we once carried, but now it's not
in my store or any of my store's sister stores. however, it probably can
(again, depending on availability) be special ordered. at the old store i
worked at, the special orders person was excellent about finding those
impossible-to-find items. so if you want to get your hands on the cd, you
may want to try borders.
again, i stress that i am not sure about the cd's availability, and this is
no guarantee that your local borders will be able to get it in. but it's
worth a shot if you want it that badly (i wish i had thought of that before i
ordered from half.com... through borders i could have gotten a sweet employee
discount).

going 'stag': amy ray releases solo cd
by gregg shapiro
amy ray plays at the metro april 12.
on stag (daemon), the dazzling solo debut album by amy ray (of the indigo
girls), the singer/songwriter has taken a unique approach to going it alone.
she has assembled a lineup of guest musicians that reads like a cutting-edge
who's who of queer and queer-friendly performers, including the butchies,
danielle howle, kate schellenbach (formerly of luscious jackson), josephine
wiggs (dusty trails and formerly of the breeders), joan jett, kelly hogan
(reunited with her band the rock*a*teens), to name a few. from the insurgent
country of the mandolin-driven "johnny rottentail" to the poignant matthew
shepard tribute in "laramie" to the woman-empowering sneer of "lucystoners"
(with the unforgettable chorus "janny wenner, janny wenner/rolling stone's
most fearless leader/gave the boys what they deserve/but with the girls he
lost his nerve"), ray's bright light rips through the darkness, and that's
just on the first three songs.
"hey castrator" features a remarkable tinkling keyboard propelled by a
ferocious guitar and drum combo that recalls husker du. while "black heart
today" comes the closest to resembling her indigo girls work, it's different
enough not to be confused with anything ray has done before&emdash;southern
punk for the 21st century. stag is a "ray of light" in these uncertain
times.
gregg shapiro: first of all, i want to congratulate you on daemon records'
tenth anniversary. how did you celebrate?
amy ray: we had a really great tour that we arranged in the southeast. we
played about six shows with different bands every night from the labels past
and present in the south. i did the whole tour and hosted it and played some
of the shows. every night was kind of a party and sort of celebrating with
all the musicians. it was very communal. we played in little punk clubs and
the cover charge was real cheap. it was a lot of fun.
gs: by releasing stag, your solo debut disc, on daemon, did you have more
artistic freedom?
ar: i never felt, technically, that i was limited artistically on epic. they
didn't say to me, "you have to do this, you have to do that," but i think
there's these subconscious, unspoken pressures about the kind of record that
you're going to turn in and what your budget's going to be. i think the more
corporate that you get, it's more implied that you're going to do things in
a certain way and when you try to go against the grain, i think people sort
of discourage you from it. doing stuff on an indie, it's just a lot
different, because it doesn't ever occur to you ... you don't have the budget
to think in that way. your budget's really small and you have to be more
creative. it's got a parameter that forces creativity in a way that works
for me. so for me, it was just a freeing up. it taught me something. i think
i can go back to making records on epic with a new sense of creativity and
know how to push the boundaries a little bit and have more confidence in it.
gs: do you think that amy ray fans are ready for this album?
ar: (laughs) i have no idea. i don't think it's that radical. it's mostly
electric. there are a couple of acoustic songs on it that are different.
yeah, i guess. i don't know. it depends. the lyrics are very frank and
pretty graphic. it's just me, and i think sometimes with the indigo girls
it's great, because emily and me balance each other out. i haven't thought
about it and honestly i didn't think about it when i made it because i
really did this project as sort of just for me. it's something that i've
always wanted to do. it was challenging and i feel good that i did it.
gs: i'm glad that you brought up the lyrics, "lucystoners," which is my
favorite song on the album, is a sizzling indictment of the male-dominated
music media. what do you think jann wenner, of rolling stone, who takes the
brunt of the ribbing in the song, will think of the track?
ar: (laughs) he probably won't even give it a second thought. his world is
so much bigger than that. i think i'm so like a peon to him, so i'm not sure
it will even matter to him. i don't feel personally dissed by rolling stone.
i think he's definitely a symbol of an industry that is male dominated and
sexist and i think that magazine has become very much more like a maxim more
than a music magazine. i think there was a time when rolling stone was this
incredible nurturer of journalism and music and it was more of a taste maker
and i think that's changed, and i hope that more people will point that out.
i think magazines need to be more courageous. they're very much under the
influence of advertisers and demographics and they use that as a scapegoat.
i think it's unfortunate and i think jann wenner is a symbol of that for me.
there are so many other people doing just as bad a thing, it's just that
he's sort of the kingpin, for music people. i think being the kingpin bares
its own weight, which is the responsibility of trying to be brave in the
face of an industry that's pretty screwed up.
gs: what can you tell me about the song "laramie," which sounds like your
response to the brutal murder of matthew shepard?
ar: it is a response to that, it's a response to the tone of our times,
which is this move towards tolerance sometimes, but in a way that doesn't
necessarily solve the problems. i'm speaking also to classism, and the idea
that there are so many people&emdash;the wealthy classes of people who sort
of remain silent about these issues and are supposedly progressive, but they
actually don't say anything. in a way, there's all these other people doing
their dirty work, because there's so much homophobia, subconsciously and
subliminally, in our world, and we just let it go. if you live in san
francisco or atlanta or chicago, it's a little easier. things have changed
rapidly and clinton really helped set a tone that was more tolerant in
general. but, i think, in rural areas or not as cosmopolitan, it's still
real dangerous to be gay. i think people snub their noses and say, "well, in
those areas it's just ignorance that causes that." what it is is we're not
out there speaking out enough and educating in those areas. we think, "oh,
well we live in our little pristine cosmopolitan new york world, where
everybody's accepted, and those people just haven't caught up with the
times." it's not a catching up with the times. it's humanity. i live in a
rural area, and i think you have to get out there and help people out and
help understand each other.
gs: you have a genuinely amazing assortment of guest artists on this album,
including danielle howle, joan jett, kate schellenbach, the butchies,
josephine wiggs, kelly hogan and the rock*a*teens.
ar: it's really like my dream team, my wish list that i've been keeping for
the past few years of, "if i was doing a solo record, who would i like to
have?" i'm friends with all of them and definitely a very big fan. some of
them were on my label (daemon). the rock*a*teens were on daemon before they
moved over to merge. kelly (hogan) was in the band and originally from
atlanta, and just a very good friend. i'm a huge fan, she's been influential
on my trying to learn how to sing better (laughs). basically, as i was
writing these songs i was thinking which band would be appropriate. what i
did was ... i don't want to force a band into a situation where they have to
play something that's not in their instinct. so, i just tried to mold the
album in a way that every band would be performing something that was really
them. it effected my writing. also, it just came very natural to me because
these are bands that i listen to all the time and i study the way they play,
so i knew what they would be good at and what they wouldn't be good at. the
butchies, for instance, surprised me because there were a few songs that i
did with them that i thought were not, stylistically, something that they'd
be into playing. but they were and they did a brilliant job. so i had these
moments of surprise like that. a band like the rock*a*teens, and kelly, i
know exactly what they're gonna be good at for me.
so that way we can go in, learn the song, have a good time together, and it
wouldn't have to be one of these "can you play it differently" and laboring
over something that wasn't gonna work out.
gs: that's incredibly thoughtful. i'm glad that you mentioned influences and
the way the songs are performed. the influence of these artists can be felt
strongly on a couple of tracks. for instance, "measure of me" sounds like it
would fit in on a kaia record.
ar: i started that song a long time ago and i could never quite get it
right. it's gone through a lot of different changes. when i took it into the
butchies i was thinking a lot about her (kaia) and her solo records and her
melodies and how i thought this was a kind of soft song. at first it had
this punk break in it, where it got really fast and loud. as we were trying
to play it, it just didn't feel right. she helped me change the lyrics
around and the band helped me arrange it. we decided to play it as a slow
song, and never go into the punk groove. it works better that way, and it
was really fitting for the butchies and for kaia. then danielle (howle) came
in, and she's like the golden voice, and she came in and totally took the
song to a different level for me. i kept thinking that i want to have this
other voice in there. kaia was singing it with me sometimes, and that
influenced the melody some, but it didn't do the same thing that i wanted it
to do. then danielle came in and it was like, "oh, my god." she'd never
heard the song, so she could approach it really freshly. we had been through
five different versions of it together, the butchies and i.
gs: there's another song with this tinkling toy piano keyboards that made me
think of husker du.
ar: that's kaia playing all that stuff. i'm sure we're all influenced by
husker du.
gs: what would you say to the indigo girls fans who might be scratching
their heads in confusion about this album?
ar: well, i would probably tell them that emily and i are going to go into
the studio (laughs) this summer and make a simple, more acoustic-based
record and they don't have to play this one if they don't want to.
gs: as someone who is both an out lesbian musician and who owns and operates
her own record label&emdash;what do you think of the grammy nominations that
eminem received for the marshall mathers lp?
ar: oh god, i don't know. he has right to be doing what he's doing&emdash;to
be a jerk, i guess, basically. the grammys, i don't really pay much
attention to them anymore because i think the industry is so fucked up right
now. there are so many people that are never honored by grammys and never
mentioned. eminem ... he's the best example of sexism that we have out there
(laughs) and misogyny. he's also the best example of anticensorship, you
know? i hate what he does, honestly. i think he's probably pretty talented
as far as his phrasing and beats and all that kind of stuff, but who cares?
i mean, he's wasting it on hate.

hey all,
does anyone know how long the stag tour will last? so far i'll be in japan
for every one of those dates (i'm not complaining about being there, but i
would love to catch at least one date). are there any plans for west coast
dates at the end of the tour (early-mid may?). maybe i could catch it then.
i remembered someone either here or on another list made a mention of a
possible west coast date.
ok, remember, boot it! boot it! boot it! maybe when i return from japan
i'll start trading again. :-)

hey all! just thought i'd share my mean observation of the day... if any of
you have any insight i fail to see into this situation, please, feel free to
enlighten me!
and the moron of the day award goes to...
the driver of the red car parked in my apartment's parking lot with the
license plate cover reading "ex-student texas tech"
what the heck is an ex-student? i'm inclined to believe that doesn't
insinuate "alumni." ex-student... you're bragging about being a dropout???
i've been thinking: what kind of a person would put something on his car for
all the world to see? i only have one answer - this is someone whose mom
once said "billy bob's the first person in our whole family to ever go to
college! we are so proud!" yea, and maybe 3 generations later you'll
actually have somebody to graduate from one.
and shame on texas tech too! i mean, are they excited that they have
dropouts from their college proudly displaying that fact?? think that helps
their rankings?
ok i give up. sorry for the message of hate. i'm just really confused.

hkf-- my best friend and fellow list member went to atl today-- and we, of
course, stopped by watershed. we walked in and who was working the bar area
but our dearest emily!! she was looking fabulous and in great spirits. it was
so funny b/c everyone was so laid back and didn't really seem to care that
half of the worlds greatest duo was serving wine. she was very chatty with
everyone-- although chris and i didn't speak to her b/c we didn't want to be
crazed fans-- plus she was on the job. it was great to see how much the
crowd just respected her and let her be. if you have the chance to go to
watershed-- it is so worth it. and maybe em will serve you!!! take care--

hey kind friends:
i posted these bootlegs for sale in the past, however the person who was
interested in them never sent payment. therefore i am offering these again.
email me with any questions.
sorry for the waste of bandwidth, but i knew the day would eventually come -
it's time to get rid of my 500+ bootleg cassettes. after collecting live
concert tapes for the better part of the last 10 years, i have made the
jump
to digital - specifically cdr's. i am not looking to make a lot of money
off of these tapes, but rather get the tapes into the hands of people that
will appreciate them and can get good use out of them. this would be a
great starter set of shows for a new tape trader.
i would prefer to sell these only as a complete set....at least initially.
i have decided that each tape is worth $2.00 apiece - when you take into
account the cost of the tape, printing j cards (cassette case liners),
postage for trading the tapes with others and wear and tear on my decks -
not too mention the vast amount of time spent gathering all these,
cataloging them, grading them etc.
i am including the following list of indigo girls tapes available. there
are a total of 22 cassettes. i do not have the set lists typed up, i would
recommend lifeblood or another internet site which may have the set list.
the set is available for $44 plus $5 for packing and shipping.
if you are interested, please email me privately at: mike@plantiv.com or

bob, shame on you. first, for making fun of first time college
attendees/graduates. second, for showing total ignorance about something
related to texas tech.
texas tech grads always refer to themsleves as "exes". it doesn't mean they
dropped out, it means they are proud to be affiliated with the school. lots
of schools have unique/interesting ways of denoting being alums or past
students. at this particular college, it just happens to be calling them
selves an "ex". someone in the viewing audience who is actually from tech
can probably explain in better detail why they call themselves exes, but it
doesn't mean they dropped/flunked out or anything else negative.
your message was so mean spirited, i can't help but wonder what your general
problem is. even if this so-called "moron" was a college dropout why would
you mock them, generalize about them and texas tech, and just generally take
such a holier-than-thou attitude? you said you're "sorry for your message of
hate", and you should be.

here's more new amy ray chords for ya...i figured this out from a live version
and i haven't heard the new album yet, so it might be different in the
studio...also the lyrics are probably a little rough, feel free to send me
corrections.
lucy stoners
by amy ray
intro: em c am d em c am d
(em)we were talking a (c)ticket slump
try to (am)put off paying (d)the rent
(em)quantify the (c)undoing
with (am)each little step
it's just a (d)lack of press
the (em)refrigerator down at the (c)boy's club
with it's (am)little magnets of (d)poetry
find (em)one hundred (c)different ways
to say (am)glory, (d)glory now
chorus:
(e7)jann wenner, jann wenner
(a7)rolling stone's most fearless leader
(e7)gave the boys what they deserve
(a7)but with the girls he lost his nerve
(e7) (a7)
in every post-punk bar there's a dressing room wall
where the rock-boy-band will make it's mark
and a hundred different pictures of private parts
and some girl goin' down
and there's a faggot-bashing poetry
but the boys are just sayin' love me please
with every hate-filled phrase they just give it away
oh boys you give yourselves away
i said jann wenner, jann wenner
rolling stone's most fearless leader
gave the boys what they deserve
but with the girls he lost his nerve
(e7) (a7) (e7) (a7)
well i'm testing one two three in the marketplace
and it's a demographic-based disgraced
and it's a stupid secret white boy handshake
that we'll never be part of
so when it's dj blow and the morning show
i'll give you one hundred reasons to just say no
i said come on girls let's go right now
i said let's go right now
(same chords as chorus):
oh cause lucy stoners don't need boners
ain't no man could ever own her
with the boys she had the nerve
to give the girls what they deserve
lucy stoners don't need boners
ain't no man could ever own her
with the boys she had the nerve
to give the girls what they deserve
(e7) (a7) (e7) (a7) (e7)

it's not the music that's at issue, it's the cassettes onto which
it's recorded. there's a difference between profiteering and selling old
bootlegs for the price of the cassette. while the former is not permitted
on this list, being all kinds of immoral and against amy and emily's
express wishes, to sell unwanted bootlegs for a buck a pop or however much
the blanks cost is effectively no different than dubbing for somebody who
sends you a b&p - peopel who ask for a dollar a tape are just looking to
avoid eating the cost of all the tapes. i don't think even real fans are
expected to do that for each other.
correct me if i'm wrong, but i think amy has said more than once
that they're okay with people trading boots, and to my knowledge emily has
at least never contradicted that.

well yeah, that post was pretty mean and closed-minded. as someone
who left college, who chose to leave beccause i thought there were
more productive things i could do for myself, better ways for me
personally to learn and be in the world, i take offense at your post.
you dont need a college degree to prove yourself. it does sound like
a dumb thing to put on your car, but who cares??

damn!
do i have a nack for getting in trouble or what!?
the funny thing is that i usally delete boot offers. boots are not 100% my
thing. their is too much screaming from the girl three seats over from the
recording device, and the chatter of the crowd heard during slower, more
intimate songs doesn't make me feel that the music is best represented.
i don't know what made me respond to yours. i'm hoping to claim "temporary
insanity due to long hard day on the slops", either that or "...by way of
birth defect" the latter of the two have helped me before!
i typed that email quickly and stent it away. after re-reading it i see where
i went wrong;
the email is ment as a general inquiry to the list not a finger pointing at
you. after all, the email is addressed to "hey guys,".
i think the capitilization of "you" is where the troble comes from.
it's not a directive "you - luzi" it's a "you - anyone who thinks they can
make money off of ig music"
this was an inquiry. unless my comprehention skills are really poor, i can
remember deep threads that were about being anti-the sale of boots.
but even more so, sorry for my ambiguous post earlier.

i am a college drop-out myself, and while i do not care to put it o a
bumper, i didn't learn what i wanted to learn about most, and i
figured i would do much better on my own.
it got to the point where i spent more time inthe college library than
in the classroom, more time in the cafeteria, and i thought if i was
going to do that with my tuition money, than college wasn't the right
place for me at the time.
i wanted to learn about folk music, pop rock, and country, i had a
classical upbringing, and i
i wanted to learn about the music that was me, i was also having
difficulty with a learning disability that i wasn't aware of, and did
not get the help available at the time, because i didn't know it was
there.
would i ever g back? i don't know. it seems that i've learned so many
things i would never have had the time for if i had stayed in school,
it takes just as much gumption for me to get up in the morning, let
alone go out in the day, that i'm still here is not something i take
lightly.
i'm not sorry i left school, but i am proud that i
keep active in the community around me, and have cotributed to a lot of
social issues where i live. and that i learned more about the music i
set out to learn about after i graduated, than i did, or probably ever
will, in a formal setting of th classroom. the same goes for all the
other interrests i've persued.
so the next time you run into that bumper, remember it's okay to drop
out. of college,
you may not agree with te person, that's okay too. just remember they
have their reasons for wanting to be proud to say they left. perhaps
they don't believe in college, and were disillusioned when they went.
another point of interest where would bob dylan be if e had stayed in
school? he did go to college at the university of minnesota, but was
was not learning what he wanted to know so he quit too.

i had to add my .02 to this disussion.
college isn't right for everyone for a myriad of reasons. a lot of people
start college to later learn that it's really not right for them. people who
never attend college or drop out aren't "stupid." look, why waste a hundred
thousand dollars (for some private schools) if you won't get anything out of
a college education. and colleges and universities aren't the only places to
learn. i think ellis paul said it the best in his song "3,000 miles" about
how much he learned from just seeing the country from a greyhound: (haha.
being on a greyhound is sociological research in itself) "i studied a lot but
college got in my way."
i graduated from college. i am currently applying to graduate school because
i happen to like academia. also, for what i want to do, a phd is necesaary.
but not everyone wants to be a university professor. :-) i look at some of
my friends who dropped out of college for various reasons. most of them are
pretty sucessful and enjoy what they are doing. and i look at what i am
doing this year. i work as a "research slave" for a professor while trying
to get my undergraduate thesis published (which generates zero income) and
work at a bookstore (which generates about 7 bucks an hour). next year, i'll
probably be taking out more loans, looking for more grant money, and
generating minimum wage while in graduate school. meanwhile some of my
"drop-out" friends will be earning nice incomes, learning while on the job,
and having enough money to give back to various charities and the community.
i am not saying that money is everything, but a lot of my friends who left
college earn a lot more than that. one of my "drop-out" friends owns an
internet startup company and makes more money than i'll ever see in my life!
for him, reading "great" works of literature, studying the tribal groups in
new guinea, and memorizing the rules of supply and demand (all theory, of
course) was not enough. he was a more "hands-on" type of guy and had dreams
of starting a technologically based company. he left college because for
what he wanted, he didn't need it. he saved heaps of money. and he is much
happier that he had those extra years to build his company. for him, college
was wasted time.
some people are forced to leave university due to funding troubles. some
have differences with the administration. but whatever the reason for
leaving school is, i think it's really shi*ty for others to be so
judgemental. and it is also important to remember that a college education
is not the norm. most people in this world will never be able to attend
college; many will never graduate high school. living in certain parts of
the united states, yes, it seems like everyone goes to (and graduates)
college, but in certain parts of the world, a college degree is about as rare
as amy singing "blood and fire" at a live show. ;-)
just my .02.
:-) karen

sure, call me "not a true fan" then grovel for a live tape. nice try, but i
am too busy dubbing tapes for people who nicely asked me for one particular
show (as the couldn't afford all of them - or didn't need all of them).
as i stated in my private response to you, i have been a fan for 12+ years.
i have been subscribed to this list (off and on) for the better part of
seven years. i usually lurk quietly - not shoot my mouth off about "true
fans". one of the things i appreciate about this list is that there are
many loudmouths who type speak just to hear themselves speak, but rather
speak in an intelligent manner.
on several occassions i have travelled across three states. i bought there
payperview - as well as a ticket to the show. so as soon as you get off
your "high and mighty horse" and frolock umongst us 'common people' - the
better off this list will be.
btw, you were the only one who felt they had to respond in such a way. i am
approaching a dozen who are very interested in all the tapes, as well as
several who i am dupping the tapes for.
and when i do sell the tapes, me and my fortunes i have made off the indigo
girls are going to retire to the villa in southern france that my bootleg
selling paid for.
sorry for the rant everybody!

hey everyone -
i'd have to agree with all of you that say that college is not for
everyone... but did anybody ever think of the possibility that that bumper
sticker from the original post might have just been meant to be funny? i
mean, i haven't actually seen the sticker, and i don't know the person who
has it on his/her car, so i'm just guessing... but to me, it sounds kind of
like... well, you know those stickers that say, "my kid is an honors student
at (joe blow junior high)," and then there are the stickers that alot of
people have now, inspired by _that_ sticker, that say, "my kid beat up your
honors student at (joe blow junior high)"? i think that the sticker we're
all currently talking about might be like that... sort of a sarcastic take
on all of those people who drive around with "(some university) alumni"
proudly stuck to the back of their car.
anyway, that's just my take on it...

okay, here we go, one more time:
"texas ex" is a verified trademark for the name of all members of the alumni
association of texas tech university.
the person with the bumper sticker wasn't trying to be funny. they were
showing pride at being a former student at tech. it's not a joke, it's *what
they call themselves* (alums of texas tech).
and, bob's post was mean and nasty, and he deserved to be called out on it.

in today's (2/5/01) edition of the los angeles times, jeffery gettlemen wrote a story about the stunning murder of derwin brown, the black sheriff-elect who vowed to clean up dekalb county, ga.
in describing dekalb county, gettlemen writes:
dekalb county is not some georgia backwater.
it's not newly minted atlanta either. it's somewhere
in between--a suburban mix of 597,000 good old boys, immigrants, poor blacks, rich blacks, jews, muslims, farmers and volkswagen beetle-driving dot-com-ers.
a few miles east of the urban core, it's home to emory university, the indigo girls and the best health food stores for hundreds of miles.

hey luzi,
it obvious that you can read. well, at least look at a series of letters in a
peticular order and say aloud the word those letters represent. that's good.
huked on foniks wurked for you.
however, it's sad that someone with your reading skill cannot comprehend an
explanation!
if you had the half comprehension skills of a pig after a frontal lobotomy
you would have realized that what you perceived as a challenge was me asking
a question about selling the boots.
i thought i made that point very clear in my last email.
in that e-mail i agree that it looked as if you were being attacked, so i
apologized.
but then you come back at me three times as hard. what the hell is that!!!
that sucks.
i can't believe you would do that. you would take an apology, and then spit
it back out at that person? really? who did you learn that behavior from? i
thought you were an indigo girls fan?
i'm sorry that my past post, was fatigue inspired and ambiguous as to it's
intended audience. but getting a response to my apology by something you
wrote like; <<so as soon as you get off your "high and mighty horse" and
frolock umongst us 'common people' - the better off this list will be..>> is
completely uncalled for. that's called kicking someone when they are down.
and people who do that suck.
i believe in a universe of limited resources. limited resources in this world
are defined as anything that exists that not everyone has. this includes, the
ability to sing, to paint, to draw, to do scientific research, water and
laughter. these things do not exist everywhere. not everyone can paint, not
everywhere on earth is their water, so these are limited. not everyone has
them. among that list are apologies. not everyone get an apology when it's
deserved. well, if it's possible, i wish to take mine back, somewhere in this
universe someone else deserves it, and i no longer want to waste that limited
resource on you.
joe
brooklyn,ny
hey kf's,
i expect tons of flames for this. one thing i've learned about this list it's
how to receive flames.
stand up for yourself = flame
(although i do get tons of "way to go joe!!!" emails!!! so chew on that
flamers!)
so flame me for standing up for my self, flame me for not being a door mat,
but just do me one favor..... be creative!!!
it's just so depressing to think that the best any of you can do is send a
one word subject line : flame!, and a letter containing the same stupid
repeated word.
if your a flamer, and you think that i was actually out of line for being so
pissed off because i was attacked so viciously after an apology then go ahead
and flame.
but consider your selves challenged.
one more thing.....
don't knock my spelling, i'm well aware that if i entered a spelling bee
against a constipated chimpanzee with an extra chromosome, we'd all be
singing "hail to the chimp" by dinner time.

luzi and joe,
i really think your arguement is based on misunderstandings which the medium
of the internet only helps perpetuate. as far as i see it, luzi asked if
anyone wanted to buy her old bootleg tapes, joe asked if that was kosher on
the list. luzi explined she wasn't selling to make a profit just asking for
the $2 that a tape costs. that's where the discussion might have ended and
on a good note. instead two nice people are letting the internet medium and
it's sometime lack of personality and tone win the better of themselves. no

first off, to whom were you aiming that flame? if it was to anyone in
particular, please consider most of us wh do not enjoy receiving a
flame intended for someone else. i'm saying this because i'd like the
list to be a people-friendly list. we do not need to insult each other
by using words that are put-downs.

hi folks,
just a few items i've been meaning to post about...
**keep quoted text to a minimum. of course it's easier to just hit that
reply button and send a nice big note to the list...but it's a lot nicer to
cut and paste just the important parts. please be nice!
**keeping with the theme of being nice...if you must flame someone, do so in
private email. keep flames, responses to flames, additional flames, etc.
off the list.
**use plain text when posting to the list. i know that a few (a very small
few) are unable to to this due to their email program...but the rest of us
should take the time to make sure all posts are in plain text.
lastly, please email me if you are having subscription problems...especially
in the area of getting the boot on a regular basis. there seems to be some
communication problems with some accounts.
thanks!

yeah, amy's been going to the speaking engagements with her too... at least here in new york. jennifer spoke at my school last week, and who, to my delight, do you think was sitting in the back row trying to look inconspicuous? oh yes, ms. ray. i go to barnard, a women's college in new york, part of columbia--there was no way for her to pull off the "inconspicuous thing." :-)

hey all -
i didn't mean to start a war with my liquidation offer -
but since i have gotten many inquiries for blood and fire, i have decided to
offer up my two shows which have that song.
i am making this offer to everyone - joe that means you too, but i hear any
flack you'll be getting 180 minutes of hiss :-)
the shows i have are: (setlists courtesy of www.lifeblood.net)

if you are interested in acquiring these tapes - i will be willing to make

is willing to make copies for people, please email me. keep in mind - those
that offer to dub, get their copies first!!
please email me at: mike@plantiv.com - i am in the process of swithching
email accounts - so please try and use the new address, it will make the
transition easier.
in your email to me, let me know if you are willing to make copies (and how
many), your mailing address (so i have it on record). if you are looking to
trade, i am only interested in cdr trades at the moment (not just ig).
blanks and postage trades will require to 90 minute tapes, a mailer that at
the least can be re-used, if not a second mailer, and return postage.
i will email everybody interested privately once i have received all the

hey y'all, i've bought a house, and my new decor isn't conducive to hanging up my ig stuff. (at least that's what my girlfriend says). so i have up fo rgrabs the following items: the poster of the girls that's like the postcard- with the blue background and tour dates at the bottom, the poster from shaming of the sun with the girls in the desert, and a really great photo someone took of amy in the red shirt with the white checks. it's about 8x 11. if anyone's interested, send me an email and we'll figure it out. i'll probably ask you to pay postage, but i really just want the stuff to go to a good home.
thanks,

hey everyone,
sheesh...this has become quite the heated debate. i am pretty sure that we
all agreed when signing up for this list, that we would not "charge" for
boots. we leave that to the folks scamming them on ebay! it is standard
fare to send a sase and disk when a boot offer is made to cover the cost (no
labor included as that is paid for by love only) of materials only. selling
one's whole collection for a fee would be selling to make a profit no matter
how small. what is a blank cassette purchased in 1996 really worth today
anyway? we all agree that the music would be priceless.

where to take amy,
well, i guess and indigo girls concert is out of the question.... so i'd see
if she was into catching a game somewhere.
i'm a big fan of the theatre, maybe she'd like that.
i'd offer the idea of eating sushi by the beach.
a 3-d imax movie if available or how 'bout ice skating.
after all is said and done, i'd love to give her the million dollar tour of
nyc hit some rock clubs, do some drinking, smoke a bone or two and just spend
the entire night rocking out!
then we'd check out the sunrise, basking in the knowledge that we got their
first and say to the rising sphere, "ha!!! we beat 'cha!!!"

hmmm, i would take her to a cozy place where i could cook some nice dinner
for her and we could have some wine ,listen to music and just hang out...
that would be nice ...preference i have ? any place around the water. nothing
fancy but nice, cozy, stress free and no pressure... just 2 people hanging
out and having a great conversation...that is what i consider a good v-day.

sheesh...this has become quite the heated debate. i am pretty sure that we
all agreed when signing up for this list, that we would not "charge" for
boots. we leave that to the folks scamming them on ebay!
i agree, but when i looked at the list of items this person sent out, it
seemed more like the stuff you'd find -- to use the analogy -- in a sports
memorabilia shop. not that i necessarily agree with either thing -- i have
little use for autographs and memorabilia and things like that, which somehow
place a higher value on a *thing* because *someone* signed it. no thanks.
overall, i'm trying to place less value on *things* and more on *people* (not
always succeeding), but the things i value most are the ones i get from
people i love -- even if it is a cd i don't even like. but for people who
collect memorabilia, this list sent to us seems like pretty much what goes on
in that area.
interestingly, melissa ferrick apparently is selling one of her guitars
on ebay, so that she can get enough money to make a cd. i don't give a bleep
about whether i get that guitar, but i want her to make good music for us.

hkf's,
i would say start with either one of the older albums
(massive blur or willing to wait) or the live album
melissa ferrick +1. i always lean towards live
albums, but +1 didn't knock me off my socks. the part
of +1 that i liked so much was because of the old
songs on there that were killer (and the slower
songs). everything i need is pretty good - a little
too polished in certain places - so it would be only
my third/fourth choice. don't have freedom but i
always urge to get older stuff first. i got my ein
album signed by her and a half-hug - i think she likes
me... ;-) j/k... (but i hope amy doesn't get
jealous esp w/ valentine's day around the corner... ;)
by the way, saliers and ray are a pretty darn good
too.
=)

a big thanks for all the melissa ferrick suggestions...and yes...while i do
agree that no one rocks more than amy and emily, every now and then i get
bored between albums (march 6 seems an eternity away) and stop ignoring
everybody else. :)
i have everything by ani and melissa etheridge and it's time for somebody
new...so i hear ferrick's the way to go. thanks.

oops! sorry about that! i had heard from someone at artistdirect that the
lilith thing-a-ma-bop only came in dvd format. but since both borders.com
and bn.com are offering it, i guess it is available in vhs. :-)
anyway, i don't think i'll be buying it. i don't like jewel, sheryl crow,
and the dixie chicks. and i'm not in love with sarah mclachlan. but if
anyone thinks it's extremely worth it, let me know.

i just watched it tonight and ig get quite a bit of coverage...they are
featured on water is wide, perform shame on you, are joined on closer to
fine by meredith brooks, jewel and sarah and they (especially amy) are in a
lot of the interview segments between songs. i agree about not all the
performers being my favorites... i skipped the meredith brooks and jewel
songs in my first viewing, as i'm not crazy about either. shawn colvin
performs two songs and is excellent. if you saw the lilith fair behind the
music on vh1, the interviews are pretty much the same topic matter, but some
of these performances are nifty to see.
