wow, i finally have something to post.

just got my tix for the philly concert (yes, they are on sale). concert is
all ages, contrary to previous reports.

here's the info from the north star bar website

thursday, april 5
amy ray & the butchies
(featuring amy ray of indigo girls)
tix: $10 / all-ages / show: 8pm

where can you get tickets for shows @ the north star?

first and foremost...
vouchers (for all intensive purposes... tickets) can be purchased at the
north star during our regular hours of operation. simply stop by and ask the
bartender for tickets. while you are... feel free to have a beer and enjoy
the visit! :)

if getting to the north star is a pain and you prefer the phone...
the good folks at the trocadero are trying to help out and are selling north
star tickets through the trocadero box office there. you can either stop by
the trocadero @ 1003 arch street - philadelphia, pa. or call (215-922-6888)
between 12pm and 6pm monday thru friday... 12pm and 5pm on saturday .

($2.00 service charge for phone orders)

jen

in my humble opinion, i think driving around the country seeing as many
concerts as you can makes you a died in the wool fan. in the past 10 years i
have been to as many concerts as i could/can get to. living in arkansas, i
have to drive to other states to see them. i have road tripped with my buddy
amy many times to missouri, texas, and tennesee to catch the gals in
concert. i wouldn't trade those roadtrips for anything. nothing like putting
a cassette in or a cd in and singing all the way with the girls blasting
from the speakers.  my friend amy and i took my brother and his friend along
to dallas one year. they got so sick of us singing along with the girls for
6 hours. but we loved it!
needless to say, they knew all the songs when they heard them in concert.
lol we made those guys fans for life.

my 2 cents,
paula

hi...

i read the mailing list faq and it didn't say anything about
whether it is okay to sell things on the list.  i have lots
of rare ig records and cds that i'm planning to sell.  i'd
like to avoid ebay because i'd rather just name a price and
sell them.  plus i know that by selling them here i would be
reaching the most serious fans.

i have both of the independent releases on vinyl, lots of cd
singles (promos and non-us), and other stuff (new mongrels,
press kits, ...)

so if there are no objections, i'll post a list next week.

thanks,
matt

years ago...)

yes, lift is still around, but their lineup has changed since their last
stint opening for the indigo girls - a couple of years ago molly and simone
jettisoned david patterson (lead guitar) and julie clark (bass)...julie has
since rejoined, and they are now a trio. i haven't heard any of their recent
stuff, but there is an interview with molly and simone up at

album. i can't find release dates or news on that anywhere on the web.

i don't remember who posted the other day about amy's concert at the north star and being under 21 but i heard that it's going to be an "all ages" show.  you can call, though, to make sure 215-684-0808.  it's really a funky little place to see a show...the concert should be great...and they have a huge parking lot behind the bar (which, imo, is a major plus!).

hey! not much seating room at the echo...
i went to the daemon show there this summer, and it was mostly standing
room. it's very intimate in that way. i don't think they're sold out, but i
would check their site (i think it's echostatic. com) and see what it says
there about tix.

they usually don't sell tickets this ahead in advance.
usually it's about a month or so in advance.  so
don't worry.  there're not sold out.

indeed, amy and rose initially had the same release
date of marcg 6.  last i heard from daemon was that
rose's cd is delayed until april, but i don't think a
new date has been set yet.

and they replied that rose's probably wont be coming out til april, but
there may still be some pre-order special thing....

rose is playing at schuba's in chicago in early march.  her website is saying
that they will be selling the new self-titled cd at that show.  at first i
was wondering, "so, it will already be in stores by then..." but i guess they
pushed the release date back for some reason.

i'm really really really excited about the cd (and to see her at schubas).  i
really like "fell."  a slightly different sound than some of her older
material...

hi all-

does anyone know anything about how to get tickets for the show in ann arbor
at the blind pig?  i called the blind pig and they said that if it's a
ticketmaster show they'll be available via ticketmaster.  if it's not, they
just sell them the date of the show.  i find that a bit hard to believe,
frankly, and think i was being given a story.  but i'm not sure.  anyone
know anything?

pearl st. has this kind of smokey bar thing going for it.  it's probably my
least favorite venue in town, but i think it most suits the image amy's going
for with stag.  it's general admission.  no seats unless you want to be
perched in the back corners of the room.
for tix call 1-800-the-tick for the northampton box office.

new album (on cd and dvd) comes out today. and every copy of her new cd sold

would have done the same.

i really recommend you check her out if you haven't already.

why people can't get it direct from daemon i don't know - there isn't a

rejoice, for edy's girl scout samoa cookies ice-cream (the best ice-cream in

actually, jonatha implied today that the dvd is not yet ready but will be
available at her website, www.jonathabrooke.com so watch that space!  i agree
with catherine.. she was in very fine form today (and a sight for sore eyes,
it's been several years for since i saw her last). i havent played the cd yet,
but the live versions sounded great!

me too :( i put in an order right after the message was posted to the

   it's my birthday, too!!  :)

   double-whammy!

but my fencing coach is going to give me a special "birthday
lesson," which means pain (why does "special" mean exertion to the point
of near-death?  is it an eastern european thing?) and have a great excuse
to go rent a good movie, have a few beers, and then go to bed early.

hey there, got my lilithfair vhs today, (or tonight as i should say.)
it's better than i thought it would be, i love the music, and the
interviews, but  my  one question...... since when  was lilithfair
confined to just  six artists?

what about paula cole, and emmylou harris, lisa  loeb, fiona apple the
cardigans, dar williams, and the many lesser-known acts that  really
need the exposure much more than the big names?  my suggestion for
anyone wanting to document lilithfair take a lesson from the people who
filmed newport,1968. on a two-hr  film they got so many more artists on
there without repeating anything, it was great!

on the other hand the ig content was good. i  liked it showing them
teaching sheryl crowe to
sing tried to be true.

peace, and goodnight everyone.

hi there.  i would like to warn you all about an aol scam which i received
via email last night.  it is titled "concerning your aol billing information"
and is from something called the customer help desk.  it looks very official
and uses the aol logos, etc.  it asks you to give all your vital info because
there is a technical problem.  if you don't give them the info, aol will
cancel your account and delete your name from their files.    they need your
name, address, credit card info, social security #, mother's maiden name -
you get the picture.  i was suspicious and forwarded it to tosemail1 and also
emailed aol staff.  i received an email this morning from tos which said that
it was fraudulent.
just thought i would warn all you aol users.
sorry for the nigc.

hi --

first, let me say straight out that i was *not* one of the people lucky
enough to get a signed copy of stag.  and there are no 7" promos available
in my town, either.

however.  some of you may not be aware that daemon is genuinely a
seat-of-the-pants operation, run (on a day to day basis) by three people out
of a warehouse in decatur.

the 7" promos are meant to bring buyers into record stores.  it's a way of
getting *record stores* to push the album.  that is why they're not
available on the website.  they're not a web promotion.

the autographed cds were -- surprise! -- not meant to be an indigo girls
promotion.  they were meant as a promotion directed towards daemon regulars,
people who always cruise that website.  now, obviously a lot of ig fans are
daemon fans.  and obviously there's a huge amount of interest in this album
because amy is an ig.  and they're banking on that popularity to sell
records.  but daemon made it clear that the promo was for *the first hundred
orders*.  how many people are on *this* list?  i mean, i could point out
that the person who -- in a spirit of friendship (i don't mean this as a
flame to that person and i don't even know who it was) -- posted daemon's
e-alert that the preorder link was up to *this* list kind of redirected the
promo from daemon supporters to ig fans.

but daemon is still daemon.  and one person fills all those orders.  and she
filled the orders in the order in which they came into her inbox.  daemon is
not responsible for the vagaries of  your netserver.  if you told six
friends about the promo and they all ordered the record and their orders
made it through the aether faster than yours, it's not andrea's fault.
negotiate with your friends.  daemon doesn't have to sort anything out,
because they didn't do anything wrong.  if you're pissed off at them, hey!,
don't buy the record.  but they've been working like dogs and the last thing
they need now is a bunch of people complaining because they can't get at
promos.  sheesh.

in support of my pals, the ladies of daemon,
ruth

then there's always "love's recovery" for those of you on the rocks,

love will come to you is such a great song...it's given me hope in

one other thing to add to ruth's post.

i'm hoping that people were rushing to get the cd for the music on it
-- not for amy's autograph.  no question, it would be great to get an
autographed copy but the music is still the same (its gotten great
reviews so far) and you'll get your order delivered straight to your
mailbox the same day the record stores put it on sale.  it isn't "aol
5.0 coaster" material just because it isn't signed!

i'm looking forward to getting mine....

well, obviously people want the cd, and not just the signature-- this is
an ig list, isn't it? and i understand that daemon is run by only a few
people-- however it is still a business... and yes, i have ordered from
daemon before,  but that's beside the point in my opinion. i just don't
think i would order anything more from them under the pretense i might get
something extra out of it, seeing as how quite a few people were
disappointed by this, including me... maybe a raffle to give away
"surprise" signed cds would have been better?

that's not to say i won't order from daemon again-- i'm sure i will.
however, they may want to rethink their promotion strategy-- and that is a
constructive criticism, not just bitching.
i have worked in non-profits my whole life and continue to do so-- and
just because an organization is small and under-staffed doesn't mean it
can't be challenged to do better.

the truth of the matter is, how ever they decided to do it, there are always
going to be people who dont make the cut somehow and are upset.   as it was
explained before, daemon cannot be held responsible for the vagaries of
servers and the internet. we've become so accustomed to the virtual realtime
effect of e-mail that i think we easily forget that that's not always the
true nature of things.  to blame daemon somehow seems misplaced to me.

i'm not sure what you expect them to do?  what's your solution to a "a amll
and under-staffed" organization's presentation of this offer?  it's really
just not that simple.  someone is *always* going to be disappointed.  but it
is not daemon's fault!

and in case you are wondering, i did not order the cd so this is not a "nyah
nyah" i get a signed cd post.  i'm planning to go get it on day of release at
the local newbury comics, in the hope of getting there in time to get the 7
inch single as well. i do think that daemon's getting an infair bad rap over
this.  imo, of course.

yeah, i know what a clever subject heading. first of
all, i'm new to the listserv. my name's torrie. i am a
college student, and i got into the indigo girls when
i was 14.(am now 21) i see amy is going to be in
boston (near where i live) in march at newbury comics
for one of those autograph session things. now i am a
journalism major and am taking newswriting and
reporting this semester. the big semester project is
that you have to interview a famous person or a person
of local prominence. now i thought perhaps a fun
interview would be to interview amy while she is in
boston. does anyone know or have any leads on how i
could arrange a few minutes with amy? thanks in
advance.

it was me . . . i'll fess up i posted the daemon stag offer to the ig list
and i really don't see anything wrong with that . . . but that's a whole
'nother story.
i also ordered the album direct from the website in hopes of being one of
the first & get a signed copy (call me cheesy or shallow or whatever but i
think it would be really neat to get one). my only point is that i really
don't think its fair to those of us who ordered that morning, that others
ordered later in the day & got the promo. that's all i'm saying, and i'm
keeping my cd order after all i ordered for the music (but hey the signature
would have been cool).
that's all i was saying . . . no offense meant to daemon, people who work
there, etc.

ok, now i don't want to knock daemon here but one cannot dismiss their
responsibility in this matter.

i was not "upset" that i didn't get a signed copy, bummed to be certain, but
not upset.
i was however displeased with the way my order was handled.

for one thing, i didn't receive a confirmation of my order for 24 hours.  in
their defense however, i did receive an apologetic response to the inquiry i
placed.  this was my first daemon order and as a consumer i was nervous that
my order wasn't even processed.  i understand that they were overwhelmed,
but this is a process that should be automated.  and just a teensy gripe...
they left the "first 100 copies will be signed" thing on their web-page all
day long, when clearly those signed copies were sold very early on (thus
filling me with false hope, you see).

the ordering form on their website is atrocious.  no end user should have to
total their own order unless they are paying by mail, and even then they
could provide the option to print out your order totals and all.  and their
whole online ordering process does little to instill confidence in the
purchaser.

i applaud daemon's efforts thus far to provide internet based services, but
they have more to do.

a side note...
i don't dispute that i didn't make the first 100 customers.  (although i
think that people on the east coast might have been favored over people in
the west because they started the promotion around 8:00 am eastern time).
but i can assure you that if the reports of people not getting signed copies
who should have are true, and mind you i'm not saying they are... then it
would certainly be daemon's responsibility. you placed your order on their
server, nobody else's.

of course we would cut daemon more slack than a big online vendor like
amazon.  and of course i would purchase from them again.  that doesn't mean
however that peoples concerns about the way this promotion were handled are
invalid.

i think this was probably their first really big promotion and they weren't
quite fully prepared.  i'm sure future promotions will go much smoother.

oh, and congrats to those listees who got a signed copy !!!

the truth of the matter is, how ever they decided to do it, there are
always
going to be people who dont make the cut somehow and are upset. as it was
explained before, daemon cannot be held responsible for the vagaries of
servers and the internet. we've become so accustomed to the virtual
realtime
effect of e-mail that i think we easily forget that that's not always the
true nature of things.  to blame daemon somehow seems misplaced to me.

hi folks,

before this thread goes the way of other touchy subjects on the list...let's
take this discussion to the place it will serve the most good.

if you have constructive criticism of the way daemon handled the stag
offer...please direct your polite comments to the following address -
hello@daemonrecords.com

they are always looking to improve the site and they would certainly welcome
our positive input.

thanks.
