at the los angeles independent film festival, i
had the honor of seeing a great lesbian-themed
comedy called "kissing jessica stein." if you
get the chance, run to see this film.

the two lead actresses in the film, heather juergensen and jennifer westfeldt also wrote the script
which was based on their play.

they play a bisexual and a straight woman who fall
into a relationship. it plays like a combination
of "moonstruck," "manhattan," and "go fish." if
you want to know the girls date movie of 2001,
i think we have a winner here.

the film will screen again at the la festival, and
even if the screening is sold out, show up and wait in
line, they will elbow you into a seat. the film is
still looking for distribution, but i am confident it
will find it. when it does, don't miss it!

use this link for info on the film and click
onto the category of dramatic features: http://www.lafilmfest.com/

i rarely recommend films on this board, but the
last time i did, i recommended something called
"boys don't cry," so i think i have a pretty
good track record here!

hi! i just checked on the show and it doesn't start until 9pm, so i am
thinking i won't be able to make it. i am in vet school from 8am-5pm
everyday in corvallis and really cannot afford to lose that much more sleep!
so anyhow i have 4 tickets to the amy ray at the crystal ballroom show in
portland tuesday night. they are "will call" and i pd for them with my
credit card, i am not sure if someone else wants them if they could pick
them up, i will try to call  the crystal ballroom and find out. i would be
willing to give all four to someone for $40 (i paid $46) if i was sure i
would get the $$ from them and they are able to pick them up b/c i won't be
making it to portland.
anyone?
thanks again :-(

apologies if this has been mentioned, but i heard that amy and the butchies will be on the world cafe thursday, at least on its home station of wxpn, 88.5 fm in philadelphia. it airs 2-4 p.m. eastern daylight time, and the interviews have generally been on in the first hour lately. it will re-air that overnight from 1-3 a.m.
the station airs live over the web at www.xpn.org.
i will have to be content to listen, because i will be in my car. my good stereo is in the shop anyway.

i'm torn between laramie and measure of me with my leanings going more
towards the latter. i just find the chorus haunting.

so question... did amy's mountain stage broadcast happen already or are they
still waiting on airing it?

and folks, if you live near philadelphia and have nothing to do this
saturday evening, you could do a whole lot worse than head on over to andi
and neil's place for an intiamte* evening with beth amsel (she of voices on
the verge) and her wonderfully caramel vocal and guitar talents. just email
me for details.

on an unrelated paul simon and brian wilson** are touring together this
summer. how f**king amazing will that be??
i'll tell you. much.
i am _so_ there.

artists collaborate on benefit cd

buffalo, n.y. (ap) - the goo goo dolls, ani difranco, 10,000 maniacs and
others appear on a new cd to benefit safe school and youth leadership
programs in new york state.

''liberation: war is over,'' which was produced in buffalo, is the follow-up
to 1999's ''war is over - musicians united for safe schools.''

last friday's release date coincides with the second anniversary of the
columbine high school shooting in littleton, colo., in which 13 people were
gunned down by two students.

the cd also includes songs by the indigo girls, e street band member nils
lofgren and patti smith.

this is totally true. i would start calling as soon as tickets are on sale
that day though. i've gotten 10th and 15th row this way for rush. i've also
heard that credit card orders that are rejected also go back into the pool
on the last day. i only do it for shows where tickets are horrible at the
moment and there is a good chance it will not sellout.

i can't believe wolf trap is on sale already. not sure if i can make this
one so i may try and pull this trick for this show.

laramie is my favorite but on your honor is the tune live.

ninja.

it's time's like this i wish i hadn't gone to school so far away (really it's
not that far but far enough that i can't come home for folk concerts).
philly people, go see beth amsel!  she's incredible...her voice is unequaled
by any singer i've ever heard.  ((and she's pretty damn cute on top of that))
i highly, highly recommend her album as well...all the goodness that is beth
plus spiffy instrumentation like banjos and things.

be well,
shana

so question... did amy's mountain stage broadcast happen already or are they
still waiting on airing it?

and folks, if you live near philadelphia and have nothing to do this
saturday evening, you could do a whole lot worse than head on over to andi
and neil's place for an intiamte* evening with beth amsel (she of voices on
the verge) and her wonderfully caramel vocal and guitar talents. just email
me for details.>>>

write more lyrics for it?  everytime i listen to it , i have to repeat it 3

ok, this is a really random request, but.....here it goes.

my older sister is looking for a friend of hers from college named gina. the
two went to va tech and graduated in 1994. gina was a huge fan of ig and i
thought i would secretly search for her because i know it would make my
sister really happy to be in contact with her again. if anyone out there is
her...or knows her (long shot, right?) please e-mail me....my sister's name
is dee....and (the only other thing i know about her) is that she had a dog
named pee wee and her last name starts with a f (can't remember and don't
want to ruin the surprise!). ok....thank you so much....meg

hi everyone,

i hope someone can help me out: my girlfriend and i ended up with something
suddenly coming up and can't go to the friday april 27 show at slims in san
fran.  we have two dinner seats -- so of course dinner is included and they
cost more than the other seats.  i'd like to get what i paid for the two
tickets: $70.90 for both or $35.45 each.  that covers $28.95/ticket and the
$3.00 handling fee and $10 convenience fee.  i'd rather sell them together,
but i'm also willing to separate them.

tickets are section sdin, row din, seats 14&15.

if you're interested, please email me as soon as possible.
thanks, liz       esacha@mindspring.com

there's a scheduled radio interview for friday 3:30ish on kfog in sf, per

did....and they haven't responded as of yet.
you can listen online, www.kfog.com if you're not in the area.
i'll probably tape it as well, if anyone misses it.  that is, if it's a for

i don't think the utah show tickets are on sale yet,  when they do, try art
tix for that venue... most "u of u" shows (red butte gardens, kingsbury hall,
etc.) are sold thru art tix.  (i don't know if they still sell them at
albertson's stores, maybe just by phone or ticket offices of venues?)
see you there :)

i just had to give my little review of the stag show.
i loved it.  it was great!  there was some technical
difficulties when the butchies were playing, which
caused them to nix the song sts...grrrr, but it was
still great.  during amy's set this woman, (an ex of
mine's mother) got into this fight with another woman.
she was grabbing her hair and beating her head.  me
and a couple other women went in and seperated the two
(which took my attention away from amy for a bit), but
the two women stopped shortly, so it was okay.  i was
very happy because after the concert i got the
setlist.  okay so now for the best part of the night.
some friends and i went out for coffee after the show.
on the way back we were driving by the crystal to get
on the freeway and i spotted amy coming out of the
place.  so my friend drives around the block and we
saw amy getting into her car.  my friend pulls right
up beside amy's car and yells out "can we get your
autograph?" and she was really nice about it and said
yes.  i told her that her concert rocked and i hoped
that things go well at the concert in eugene.  so
yeah, that is my amy ray story....fun night...  ;o)

http://www.bottomofthehill.com/booking.html

check out the booking info page. scroll to the middle where they talk
about whether or not bands should take whatever show is offered. pretty
funny.

hey y'all, i don't think i've seen any info posted about this except
that the date exists -- july 22nd at the oregon zoo...  i just went up
to the zoo office today because their website (www.oregonzoo.org) says
tickets are available...  well, it turns out they're not available yet
and they couldn't tell me exactly when they would be...  but just fyi
it'll be $19, all general admission, and they told me they sell about
3500 tickets for these concerts and usually don't sell out 'til the days
right before the show because people wait around to see what the weather
will do.

hope that info helps...  i'll post again when i find out that tickets
are on sale.  (unless someone else says something first!)

deb

p.s.  didn't hear anyone say anything about amy's show here either, but
it was amazing!  i hadn't heard the butchies before and had no idea what
to expect, but they rocked too.  amy kept saying that she was amazed at
how many people showed up, and that we were the biggest crowd yet on
this tour.  pretty cool!

actually, i think that the whole point of the song is that it's way too
comfortable for people in other towns and cities to point at laramie and
stigmatize it and say -- "they" are horrible, "they" are homophobic, the
problem is there, etc.  amy's point is that laramie is not anomalous -- it's
a microcosm of the entire country, and what happened there is a symptom of a
greater disease -- and, in fact, that acts of violence against gay men and
lesbians happen every day, all over.  and she links the demonization of
laramie with class issues, and that it's easy for the "classy fuckers" to
point a finger at the "rednecks" and say that they're the bad ones.  but as
the song says, "but this town ain't nothin' different/than the rest."

hadn't seen this mentioned, it's from the ig website.  wonder how those
of us not in atlanta see the broadcast...

"in addition to their own set at music midtown on sunday, may 6, indigo
girls will take part in a songwriter's session special performance on
saturday, may 5th, 8:00-10:00pm which will be broadcast live by turner
from atlanta's civic center. the special set will also include darius

josh joplin.

stop by the coca-cola roxy theatre this friday, april 27th to grab some
breakfast and pick up your free reserved seating ticket for "turner

to win tickets to the civic center show on saturday night. you can only
get into the civic center show with a festival pass and a civic center
ticket."

ok, peoples, dont be pissed.

i had provided a # for michelle sharples for ig tix on 7/27 @ mandalay =
bay.

she is not a proper contact for tix as she is the coordinator for the =
foundation room (private club owned by the house of blues, who is =
promoting the concert).

my boss is a member of the foundation room, so we (our company staff) =
have access via this avenue, but not the general public.

if you want tix for this show, call the mandalay bay resort @ =
702/632-7777 and ask for the box office.

show is on the beach at the resort & should be a blast.   gen admission =
show.

sorry for the inconvenience.

ballet, indigos team for premiere
wendell brock - staff
saturday, april 28, 2001

the atlanta ballet and the indigo girls will collaborate on a world premiere
that will launch the company's 2001-2002 season at the fox theatre. the
project had been planned this year, but the folk-rock duo pulled out because
of the yearlong ballet musicians' strike, which was later resolved.

the 40-minute work, set for oct. 18-21, will be choreographed by margo
sappington, a new yorker who created the joffrey ballet's popular
"billboards," danced to prince music. the unnamed piece is being likened to a
rock concert because the indigos will be onstage.

"the hardest part will be trying to keep from turning myself around to see
the ballet," joked emily saliers, who with partner amy ray makes up the
indigo girls. she says the project appeals to them as a mixed-media concept.

the ballet is excited about the potential to build new audiences. "it's a
huge step for us," says executive director wallace whitworth. "it's not
something most ballet companies would do."

when the indigo girls perform at next weekend's music midtown, whitworth
said, "there's only going to be one performing arts organization out there
(with) a blow-up of their season brochure that says, 'these girls are going
to be performing with us.' "

the company needs the revenue. though artistic director john mcfall refuses
to say exactly what the company's debt is, whitworth says it has a $1 million
line of credit and "we are pretty close to maxing out." it recently trimmed
three weeks from its dancers' work year (now at 32 weeks) and cut staff
salaries by 10 percent. next season's budget --- $6 million --- has been
rolled back to the 1997-1998 level.

the rest of the lineup: "the nutcracker" (dec. 7-30), the return of michael
pink's "dracula" (feb. 7-10, 2002) and australian choreographer stanton
welch's "madame butterfly" (april 5-7). subscriptions are on sale for
$50-$160. 404-892-3303. single tickets will go on sale in august.
