---------- forwarded message ----------
date: sun, 29 apr 2001 15:24:08 edt
from: nakedeye10@aol.com
subject: [ig-news] amy, butchies, and more at slim's in sf

it's sunday morning (afternoon?), and i've finally recovered from a
delightful few days of stag shows.

i flew out from colorado, as amy wasn't coming any closer than sf.  (a real
shame, too, because co is one of their strongholds.  could have sold out
three nights at the fox in boulder.  great venue.  would've been fabulous.
oh, well.)

anyway, as reported all tour long, the shows were great.

both nights, i was front row, on the stage, between amy and kaia (sp?).

i never had heard the butchies before, but i was suitably impressed.  they
punk out effectively during their own set, and rock out during amy's.  an
excellent choice for a backing band, imo

the only major bummer was the weather.  cold and windy both days - a tough
combination for ga shows.  fortunately, a bunch of us hardcore travellers
made friends on day 1 and worked a well-oiled machine on day 2.  actually,
the other bummer was the late start time.  doors at 8+.  show at 9.  why???

the shows were true to form.  sarah brougher (sp?-pleae correct me for my
records) opened the show both nights with a pleasant but not particularly
impressive set.

she was followed up by the butchies in their little uniforms.  black pants
and shirts with fat red belts.  kinda cute.

i'm not particularly a punker (but i am a who fan - without whom punk would
never have existed), but i thought there were a solid bad.  good players,
strong stage presence, and just generally kick-ass performances.

i was particularly impressed with melissa in the drum chair (an interesting
stylistic cross between max weinberg of the e st band and keith moon of the
who - although not quite on the level of either).  also, kaia gets
particularly high marks on stage presence (and overall cuteness).

both nights they had a "cowbell" girl.  both nights that was great fun.  (the
second night, i helped it be a young punk "chick" with short orange hair
named stephanie, i think.  she and her friends knew all the words to all of
their songs, so i was even polite enough to give up my front row spot for the
b's set.  a pity that her friend was such an unappreciateive, immature bitch.
but i know that s will remember that night for the rest of her life.)

the first night, either june or jean millington came out and did a cris
williamson song (can't remember which woman or which song) with them.  the
second night, lynnie/lenny somebody came out for one.  (anybody, please feel
free to correct me.)

then amy's set was just great.  my only complaint was that it was entirely
too short.  i understand her not wanting to play ig material, but imo, they
should have learned another 4-6 cover songs.  the set was just too short.
otherwise, not only do i have no complaints, but it was worth getting on a
airplane for.

night one was a solid show as best i could tell (verified by amber and
michelle who saw four back east and came out from ny).  night two totally
kicked ass (anybody record it - i really need a copy-please email me).  they
had settled in.  didn't have to travel that day, and were playing before an,
ahem, rather enthusiastic crowd.  a & m ranked it at the top of their six.

the sets were essentially the same material (in a different sequence each
night, with a few additions the second night (a few notes of blister in the
sun by request - that would've been good and the track and the song the cat
from the 7").

in closing, special thanks to a&m from ny, robin and linda from la, joy and
ilsa (sp?) from somewhere near sacramento.  garian and jill who also came
from colorado.  my local friends, clyde and jeff.  the woman whose name i
forget who recognized me from a melissa show in '92.  caroline from sac.
carolyn (sp?) from seattle.  kellye from san jose.  tina from sj who it was
good to hug if only for a moment.  and finally, a special thanks to all of
the musicians, crew and staff who made it all happen.  (if i forgot anyone,
please don't take offense.  i'm wiped out!)

heather p., ann-mei, and yun, where were you?  seattle crew - you were missed.

hope to see some more of you this summer.

lauren

if you'd like to share that knowledge, i'd appreciate it.  private emails

wow! june millington joined them on stage?! millington is like one of the
godmothers of "women's music" (harkening back to the early olivia records
days). as is chris williamson. i know i'm gushing, but you have to
understand that olivia records' music was the soundtrack to my coming out
back in the mid 1980's (but that's another story). not to mention that
olivia paved the way in the music biz for artists like our beloved ig and
the butchies.

two years ago at the michigan womyn's music festival, june was ever present
with her cam'corder taping as many performances as she could. one of the
concerts she taped was a set where chris williamson and tret fure played
chris's "shooting star", and then the butchies came on and played their
version of the song. it was so cool to see a young band like the butchies
pay homage to the women who came before them. btw, their version of
"shooting star" is great! does anyone know if "shooting star" is the song
they played with millington?

it was june millington (of ima).  they sang "shooting star".
cris williamson arrived in the club later, and joined them

all i'm going to say here is that the shows were so incredibly awesome.
for those of you who were there, i was the one wearing the "viva la
vulva" t-shirt on saturday who gave the flowers to amy and the
butchies. :) it was so much fun!

i took four rolls of pics. the first roll sort of turned out - four
decent pics of the butchies. i'm hoping the amy rolls turned out better
as i changed some of the camera settings. anyhow, i'm getting them back
tomorrow and i'll share if they turn out good.

i'm not going to post my review here, because it's really long (so much
drama), but it's on my website at http://www.indigirl.com/igc.html.
click on the amy ray link towards the top.

now i just have to wait til july to get my next fix. that's not so bad.
i feel really spoiled sometimes....

love,
amy

i was killing some time at a local record store this weekend, and ran across
some signed copies of stag.  i was lucky enough to be among the first 100 to
have my order processed at daemon when stag was first available, so i
already have my signed copy.  and these that i found this weekend are
exactly the same.  they came in the same wrapping, and are signed, "x amy

i picked up 3 extra copies, because i remember that there were many listees
who were upset about not getting a signed copy. anyone still interested??
just reimburse me what i paid, plus cover the shipping.  no more than one
copy per person, please.

if interested, please let me know.

hey everyone!  a couple weeks ago i went to daemon and ordered stag.  i got
no verification of the order or any information as to how long delivery might

if my order took or not as the site kept sending me back to epic's webpage of
ig.  does anyone have any answers for me?

the lifetracks with amy ray is on the music choice digital radio channel that
comes on the digital cable lineups.  it is available on cox digital cable and
airs at 4pm mtn time in the phoenix, az area.

i will tape the show (since i will be away at work).

i will try to transfer it to my minidisc player and then try to convert it to
mp3s which i will then offer up to the list (maybe brian clary can help me out
with this?)

i've converted the amy ray interview from music choice's lifetracks into a
single mp3 file (54.3 mb). using napigator (available at
http://www.napigator.com) and napster, log onto the server
popfolk.napster.com and search for "lifetracks - amy ray interview" to get
the file. i will make this file available for until about 3 a.m. eastern
time tonight. due to the large size of the file, high speed users are
preferred. good luck.

i almost forgot that napster's new blocking software may make file sharing
difficult or impossible. therefore, i've made the music choice amy ray
interview available on the gnutella network until about 3 a.m. eastern time
tonight. you can use your favorite gnutella client (i receommend bearshare
from http://www.bearshare.com ) to get the file. just search for
"lifetracks - amy ray interview" then download. again, high speed
connections are preferred due to the large size of the file (54.3 mb). good
luck.

some of you probably know about the napster like service audiogalaxy that
has a website and you download a satellite program - it isnt exactly peer
to peer, but the filters or lack there of are nice. according to
www.cexx.org, a security info site - the program also does install a
program in c:/programfiles/webhancer/ which screws up your winsock config
(so dont delete it - too easy)

the webhancer software tracks your websites viewed and sends the info
somewhere (i dunno) but it also can slow down connects, etc.

the thing is a beast to get rid of (and it is lame because audiogalaxy is a
great tool, i'm listening to the forthcoming rem album as a result, and
yes, i promise you all, i'll not only buythe album, but the special edition
and probably a few import singles, this is rem) and to simply delete the
directory will kill all hope of having internet connectivity.

but go to www.lavasoft.de - get their ad aware program - run it - it works
like a charm

just an fyi - it was pretty flaky on my system.

igc - i heard there may be people who trade ig mp3's, i dunno any
personally or anything...nope, not me...

subject:      ig contest sponsored by me... autographed stag
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

hi everyone -

i stopped by virgin on my way home tonight and picked up two copies of
the autographed stag (mentioned earlier today). i don't feel
comfortable just selling it to the first person who emails (not fair
for the digest folk like me), nor do i want to just put it on ebay
(duh). soooooo... i thought about it on the bus home and thought i
would sponsor a little contest. here are the details:

the prize: 1 copy of stag, (autographed on the back by amy ray) and a
2000 list tee-shirt (size l-xxl or babydoll - your choice), plus two
bootlegs of your choice from my collection.

what you have to do: email me and tell me why you deserve this. the
most creative and/or deserving (imho) response wins. hint: if you
already have three copies of stag, own every bootleg to high heaven,
and have a full collection of amy's autograph, you probably don't have
a great chance. the idea behind this little thing is to share the
wealth and spread the love. soooo... if what i wrote above applies to
you, please don't enter (unless you have a great idea of what to do
with the prize). you have until this thursday at 11:59pm, pdt to email
me. please email me at amy@indigirl.com - not the list address. yahoo
is bulky and hard to manage for large quantities of mail.

why i'm doing this: for fun. and like i said, i don't need two
autographed copies of stag, and i'd feel weird selling them or trading
them. and why the bootlegs? i have a great collection, thanks to all
the awesome fans out there, but i don't have time to regularly trade
anymore.

so, to sum up, if this is interesting to you, email me before thurs at
11:59 pm pdt with your most creative entry. use words, pictures,
sounds, whatever. be creative. with your permission, i'd like to
anonymously post some of the best entries on my website, anonymously.

with your entry, please include your full name, email address and
general location, as well as whether or not it'd be ok to share your
entry. (don't worry, if you don't want it shared, i'll be the only one
to see it - i promise). also, include your shirt size and bootleg
requests, in case you win. my list is at
http://www.indigirl.com/bootlist_all.html. please use "stag contest" as
the subject line so i can filter the mail - this is really important.

there is a runner-up prize; 1 copy of stag (non-autographed), slightly
and lightly used, plus a list shirt. if there are a ton of outstanding
entires, i may come up with more runners-up. we'll see...

any questions? please email me. i think this will be sort of fun! :)

love,
amy
