sorry if this has been posted before, its some of emily's favourite albums:
compiled by russell hall, cdnow contributing writer
over the course of their 11-year recording career, the
atlanta-based indigo girls have established themselves as
one
of rock's most respected duos. their soon-to-be-released
retrospective takes a look back at some of their finest
work:
in the meantime, emily saliers shared her thoughts
regarding
some of the albums that have played a role in shaping her
social and musical sensibilities.
||| 1 ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
queen latifah: nature of a sista'
emily saliers: "i heard this when i first started getting
into hip-hop music, and i thought [latifah] had a
strong message for women, but one that was playful at the
same time. it's really well produced and funny.
i associate the album with good times."
||| 2 ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
public enemy: it takes a nation of millions
"when i first heard this album, it was like hearing the true
poetry of the urban struggle. chuck d's voice,
and the power of public enemy's message, just blew me away."
||| 3 ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
joni mitchell: hejira
"mitchell is one of my favorite artists of all time, anyway,
and i particularly love the mood and the lyrics of
this album."
||| 4 ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
stevie wonder: innervisions
"his talent is amazing. i love the arrangements, the fact
that he played all those instruments, the beauty
of his voice, the strength of the lyrics, and his vision for
a better world. he was dealing with urban issues,
and issues of love. the scope of this album is phenomenal."
||| 5 ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
tori amos: little earthquakes
||| 6 ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
ennio morricone: cinema paradiso
"i love this music, and i also love the film. this is
another album that brings back good memories."
||| 7 ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
aerosmith: rocks
"this is just a great record. i love classic rock like led
zeppelin, aerosmith, ac/dc. amy and i used to
listen to those bands on road trips."
||| 8 ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
etta james: best of etta james-millennium
"i?m not so much into the motown sound, or that sort of soul
sound. but i love aretha franklin, and i?m
particularly a fan of etta james."

i ditto this request - brenda - when i get ben harper converted i'll let
you know.
you can get several reveal tour boots @ www.murmurs.com
i downloaded koln, they also have paris and rio (but i thought rio sucked)
i haven't bought reveal yet (ok, so i have, umm, had it for a while -
audiogalaxy is awesome! but i *haven't been near a music store, or else of
course i'd buy it - it is incredible...)
ps - the new radiohead album (amnesiac or "amnesi@c (hint hint) was
secretly released by the band online too. it's also amazing!)
but then again - every rem release date should be a national holiday
(bonus points if you can name the album that was released on a semi
holiday. it is such obscure knowledge, but i'd be impressed)
igc - amy and emily both love radiohead and amy wants the bootleg of the
athens music fest . (truth!)

theoretically it can be done, but also realize nff is a strange beast - you
would be missing some great music sat. and there will be people lining up
at the gates at 4 am the next day. which usually isnt all ig heads, but nff
seems to bring out the diehards...
but then again, didnt amy and emily do a string of shows in providencetown
in 91 which many people *i* know have said were the most incredible shows
seen. 9:30 club in 1998 (also considered a great show) was right after nff,
and i havent been to the calvin, (went by it, looks intimate, but it is a
helluva trek from newport, ri)
would *i* go to the calvin - yea, if i had not seen them so many times, if
it were reasonable to do with my friend fran and the folks i do nff with
every year, and i wouldn't be so darn fatigued.
but your also talking to someone who flys cross country to see an author do
a couple book readings in the same setting as his new book, and only 50 -75
people showed up at each event. the same person who has gone to nyc on a
day's notice because he had rem tixs held for him, the person who went to
nyc in the worst snowstorm to see billy bragg twice in one night.
i digress,
if you are hitting noho without trying to see nff saturday, it shouldnt be
too bad. i cant see trying to do sat nff -> noho -> sun nff.
but that's me.
(i'd probably go see ringo in boston over ig at noho too)
blah

yes, it seems like quite a drive, but as mike said, the nff seems to bring
out the diehards. i remember meeting people in '99 who went to the new
jersey show then came to newport then went to saratoga -- it's what we do.
and it's funny, for a gal who usually goes to bed at 9:00-10:00 every night,
i seem to have all the energy in the world on that weekend.
i really want to go to the noho show, but it doesn't look that positive
right now. my only option is to take a bus back to boston and hook up with
someone there and then get a ride back to newport. my husband won't take me
to that show - i don't blame him - he's good enough to go to the festival -
i can't ask anymore of him. but, he also knows that if there's a
possibility, i'm going anyway - with or without him (i can be a determined
little @###% when i want to be).
anyway, as i mentioned before, if anyone is going to the show from newport
and then returning, please let me know or if you have any other suggestions
to offer, that would be great.

hi all! this is very off topic, sorry but i posted to this group a while
back about these cats and got a great response -
my mom and her friends has been feeding a colony of about 25 feral cats that
live behind her work, and lately they have been disappearing. come to find
out the local police cheif has been trapping them & shooting them. so my mom
and her friends (through networking extensively) have set up the white
mountain feral cat coalition (wm fcc) to help trap, test, neuter, and
hopefully adopt these cats.
as a fundraiser they have set up a "cutest cat" contest, to enter you email
a photo of your cat to go on the website and there will be a prize for the
cutest cat. if you have a cute cat please enter as it is for a great cause.
pass this on to anyone you think may be interested!
more information & how to enter at:

the email address is: catsave@hotmail.com
thank you!

hey ig lovers!
does anyone have a spare bumper sticker that they would like to sell? about
a year ago, i found the perfect bumper sticker (actually it was a window
sticker), got it from ebay. in big, white bold letters it simply said
"indigo girls", cute and to the point. i loved that damn sticker, but a lady
totaled my car a few months back, and off to the junkyard my precious sticker
went. i have been looking for a replacement, but the only ones i can seem to
find are the indigogirls.com sticker, and a couple on ebay that i don't
really like. i want my new car to be indigo happy, so if anyone has one, or
knows of a place where i could get one, please let me know.
thanks!

i haven't seen it mentioned yet, but the tickets for vancouver went
onsale friday. lucky me, i've just discovered that on a holiday
monday...
they're general admission though, so i think i can achieve front row
status if i hang out on the sidewalk long enough!
yay!
